Super Bowl champion, all pro, pro bowler
and former Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins
Sr. racing the airwaves here on Locked On Patriots.
Folks, I'm not going to lie. This is an interview I've been excited
to do for quite some time. One of the most exciting
players to don a Patriots uniform in the
Bill Belichick era.
Jamie was back here in 2022, his fourth stint with New England, signing with the practice squad,
and he was drafted, don't forget, by the Patriots back in 2013 in the second round,
number 52 overall, and during his combined seven seasons here in New England,
tallied 330 solo tackles, 32 of them went for loss, 13 forced
fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 18 and a half sacks, and nine interceptions. Yeah, impressive.
12 years total in the NFL, not a complete tour of duty, start to finish in Foxborough,
three years with the Cleveland Browns, two years with the Detroit Lions. Jamie compiled 455 solo
tackles, 26 and a half sacks, 19 forced fumbles, 215 career games. Once again, the stats speak for
themselves, extremely impressive. But when I think of Jamie Collins, I always think of him in a
Patriots uniform. And I think of amazing athleticism. Take you back to 2015 and one of my all-time favorite
Patriots plays it's a play so dynamic that the NFL actually had to come up with a rule to prevent it
in the future leaping over the Indianapolis Colts defensive line to block an extra point attempt and
who was the kicker attempting that yeah old friend Adam Vinatieri like I said to this day one of my favorite Patriots
plays and then take you back to just two years ago November 2021 showing off that electric vertical
jump ability grabbing the interception Bill Belichick later gushed about that in post-game
interviews as well as the following day press conference. Covered the game, covered both of Bill Belichick's
press conferences. He used the word remarkable over and over again. And really, I think that's
a testament to just how dynamic Jamie Collins is in a Patriots uniform. Every time he was out on
the field, he always knew something special could happen. And Jamie is actually ready to make more
history and he's going to have a little fun doing it. He's going to be joining former Patriots linebacker Tully Banticaine.
And folks, Tully was our guest Thursday here on Locked On Patriots.
If you haven't checked out that show, highly recommend doing so.
Tully lending some amazing wisdom and counsel on his new business venture, the Beach Football League.
And that's going to be launching in February of 2024.
Jamie's going to be a part of it. And in addition to Tully and Jamie, Patriots is going to be launching in february of 2024 jamie's going to
be a part of it and in addition to tully and jamie patriots going to be well represented
cory dylan devon mccourty expected to be along for the ride and they're not going to have any
shortage of star power with terrell owens patrick willis just to name a couple this is going to be
an exciting league a fun league and i one, cannot wait to view and watch.
So today, it is my good fortune to welcome Jamie to the pod, and we're going to talk all things beach football.
We're going to talk his time with the Pats, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady.
And folks, trust me, you are not going to want to miss Jamie's message to Patriots Nation.
All I'm saying is Jamie Collins may still have more amazing moves
in his arsenal after all. Settle in, folks. Stay locked in to find it all out when Jamie
Collins Sr. joins me when this episode of the Locked On Patriots Podcast continues.

Patriots fans, Thursday here on Locked On Patriots,
I had the pleasure of speaking with former Patriots linebacker Tully Banticaine
regarding the creation of his new football venture,
the Beach Football League,
in which several gridiron greats will professionally compete on the sand, and that's
officially going to kick off in 2024. Today, you might be able to recognize my guest. I'm sure you
do. I'm very blessed to be joined by one of the league's participants, one of the most dynamic
talents I've had the privilege of watching and covering on a football field, Super Bowl champion with the Pats and Super Bowl 49 and a second team all pro in 2015.
I'm honored to have Jamie Collins Sr. in the guest chair.
Jamie, thank you for taking time out today and welcome to Locked On Patriots.
What's going on, man?
I appreciate you having me.
Anytime.
The honor and privilege is all mine.
And Jamie, Tully told us yesterday here on the pod that the Beach Football League plans to launch with a draft,
an inaugural game at a surprise location in February 2024.
League play is scheduled to begin in June of 2024.
And it's definitely piqued our interest here on Locked On Patriots.
But what drew you to the Beach Football League?
What are you most looking forward to about this venture?
I don't know, man.
It just sounds exciting.
It sounds like the start of something new.
I mean, it sounds bigger than, you know, just the average football game,
you know, playing on turf.
You know, this is on the beach.
I mean, can't get any better than a beach, right?
You can't.
To just, you know, just like I said, it's football, man.
Everyone loves football.
I know I love football.
And I think it'll attract a lot of people, you know, and like I said, it could be the
start of something new, man.
Start of, you know, a whole different world of things.
So we'll see.
Absolutely.
And definitely looking forward to it. The venture is definitely not going to be short on star quality. In addition to yourself, of course, Tully, expats, Corey Dillon,
recently retired safety, Devin McCourty are on the list of former NFL players scheduled
to participating. Terrell Owens, Pac-Man Jones, Patrick Willis, just to name a few.
You've always been a player that thrives on competing against the best. You've done it well and at such a high
level for so long. How exciting is it going to be to work with former teammates and competitors
in, like you said, something that could be a new beginning for football?
Man, honestly, I'm super, super grateful and super excited to be out there with them.
You know, all those guys you just named, man, to me, it's like, you know, they're greatness.
You know what I mean?
Like, you know, it's just, like I said, something that I never even pictured, something I never thought about, not even crossed my mind once.
You know, and to just hear those who you speak, those names.
It's just like, hey, here we go again.
You know, like I said, 10 years in.
But still, I feel like this right here would be something different.
You know, no pads on the beach, you know, a bunch of elite talent.
You know, like I said to me, those guys are all greatness.
And I'm just super super
grateful to be a part of it absolutely and i know the league is definitely grateful to have someone
of your stature a part of it and football fans are going to be delighted to see it it's a new
concept a fresh concept and i think a real fun one as well so we're all looking forward to it
jamie it definitely is locked on patriots here. And folks, even though the Beach Football League is going to be a fun experience,
we're all looking forward to this.
Can hardly wait for February and June.
But I'm going to have the privilege now of asking Jamie about some of his most fond memories
of his time in New England, because it's been highly decorated.
We've talked about the Super Bowl appearances and the championship and the All-Pro and the
Pro Bowl.
Those have all been great accolades that you received very, very well deserved. But I wanted to first ask you about the news of the day and that the Patriots schedule is
out now. 2023, obviously, the season slate is set. The Patriots are going to be opening at home
against the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending NFC champions, and the Patriots are going to be
honoring one of your former teammates,
and that is Tom Brady.
You've played alongside Tom.
You've competed against him.
You've made his life easier and more difficult at the same time,
so it's a unique position for you to be in.
But having played alongside Tom, competed against him,
what are your favorite memories on playing with Tom
and your thoughts on the team and especially team owner Robert Kraft honoring him in this way to kick off the season?
Man. It is weird, but like, you know, my greatest thing playing with Tom Brady is throughout the game.
I never flinch, you know, as long as that guy was on the other side of the ball, man, with the ball in his
hands, I mean, I literally just worry about my job and do what I have to do, you know, and that's not
the case, you know, regardless of anything we do, you know, regardless if it's picking up trash,
you know, cleaning the house. With Tom Brady, man, you literally don't have to worry about anything.
You're always in the game.
You always have a shot regardless of the score.
I mean, you've seen it.
We've done it many times.
I mean, it's just, you know, how some guys get upset when you get down.
You know, the time is about to run out.
You know, stuff like that.
But, man, with me, I just literally never flinched once I got in the building with that guy
and seeing how he was, how he handled himself and what he did.
That was like the ultimate relief for me, you know, just, you know, worried about my job.
And that's the thing, you know, that's the motto over there, man.
Do your job, do your job.
It sounds cliche, but when you got a guy like tom brady that's all you have to do man you
know it's not the case always you know you got a uh rookie quarterback or whatever you know you
always gonna think twice you know when you got a young quarterback but when you got a guy like
tom brady man you just you just sit back and relax man and just do your job yeah without question and
well said especially
from someone that's played not only alongside of him but also completed against him um to hear
that type of perspective is is truly amazing and it really lends into what i think all patriots
fans here uh will agree with and will you know definitely enjoy i wouldn't be doing my job if i
didn't ask you a question about the other Big B in the Patriots
lore and you know fandom and that is of course your former coach in New England Bill Belichick
about to enter his 24th season as head coach of the New England Patriots I said this to Tully
on Thursday everyone from the fans to the media they can speculate on what it's like to play for
Bill Belichick but only those that actually played for him really know what it's like.
What was your experience playing for Bill?
A few tours of duty here for you in New England.
What's it like being coached by a legend like that?
Once again, man, I'm just, you know,
I just got to tip my head off to the guy, man.
You know, they, you know, they just started my career.
You know, they gave me a shot coming out of a small town in Mississippi, man,
just coming down there, getting me like that.
And once I got in there and saw how he was, because, you know,
I've always heard the stories, you know, going up,
you're better checking Tom Brady, you know, and Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning.
You know, I always heard the stories, but never knew how those guys really were.
But, man, once I got in there with Bill, man, it was like everything you heard
was true, but once you got in there with him and got close to him,
you know, you got to see everything.
And what you see is what you get, you know,
but at the end of the day, the guy's the ultimate man.
You know what but at the end of the day, the guy's the ultimate man. You know what I mean?
Like, he take care of his guys, you know, which is what you want.
You know, it's a professional level.
He always going to try to bring the best out of you, regardless if you like it or not.
You know, and I've been just, I've learned so much from the guy, man.
It's just, it's crazy how he just simplifies the game.
You know, you got a lot of guys that just, you know,
give you the runaround.
This guy literally, you know, just speaks my language
because I'm a simple, boring guy.
So he just literally put stuff in perspective just so easily, man.
And if you can relate, then you will pick the game up with ease, man.
And that's why I feel like, you know,
that organization has been doing so well for so long because of a guy like
that, man.
It's just, he simplifies the game.
He puts the game in perspective where you will understand.
He's smart as hell.
He knows football through and through, like literally every position.
Like he knows the game, you know, and it's so crazy to be under a guy like that, you know.
And it's like if you wouldn't want to be under a guy like that, you're crazy, you know, just to be there, man.
Because like I said, the guy's a legend.
You know, he's like the greatest coach to ever do it.
So I just i know i
just learned so much from him on the football field off the football field because like i said
it's just it's not just about football you know the guy you know he handles his business as well
and like i said you just you take what you can you know you steal some tools here and there
and you apply to yourself and he literally gives all the tools that you need
you just gotta get it you know take it you know but yeah man just i'm super grateful you know to
be coached by a guy like that hopefully one day i can get up on them again you know what i mean
maybe he can teach me his coaching skills and i can take that somewhere, you know, do my thing or whatever. But yeah, man, I appreciate the guy a lot, man.
Like I said, they took a chance on me, you know, coming out of college.
You know, we didn't we didn't do so well, you know, my senior year, but, you know, they
still took a chance.
And, you know, that's why I'm very grateful and super grateful, you know, that he's he
done that, you know.
But like I said, he saw the potential, obviously, and here we are today, you know.
Absolutely.
And, you know, I've always.
By the way, two Super Bowls.
Didn't play number one, but I have two of them.
Absolutely.
And something that I've always been in awe.
You were one of those guys that every time I either stepped behind a microphone or worked on a cookie board,
you were always one of the guys that I was watching because you have just a dynamic way
of being able to play this game. Still one of the most athletic interceptions and one of the most
athletic block kicks I've ever seen on a football field. And I will take that to the end of my
career. And I know that's something that has always been exciting for me, but your time here in New England was definitely beneficial for the Patriots.
I know we've talked about Bill Belichick,
and I've always said here on Locked On Patriots,
Bill Belichick forgets more football in his sleep
than most people learn in a lifetime.
Playing alongside guys like Tom Brady is definitely exciting,
but I don't want to lessen the impact that you've had on this organization as well,
and the greatness that you've brought here and the legacy that you leave here in New England is
definitely one that I know you're proud of and Patriots fans are proud of as well. So when you
look at the success and you look at the Super Bowl rings that you earned here, you look at the second
team all pro and the Pro Bowl not in 2015, career highs, seven sacks, three interceptions in 2019.
You've had great years here in New England.
Is there a memory or maybe even multiple memories that you look back on with a smile and say,
that's something I'll take with me for the rest of my life and being in the England Patriots?
Man, I would say it's a lot, man.
But personally, it's playing in that Super Bowl, man.
Like, that's, like, the ultimate goal, you know.
That's, you know, that's what you're reaching for.
That's what you're shooting for, you know.
You're not just going through the season, you know,
just playing the football games, you know.
You're competing, you know.
And when you compete, there's something at the end.
And the Super Bowl was at the end.
And just, man, just being just being there man like I said especially
like for me you know like I won a championship in high school but it's nothing like the Super Bowl
you know never got there in college you know won a conference but there's nothing like the Super Bowl
man and just being able to contribute you know what I'm saying like I contributed in that in
that Super Bowl you know like I said my stats my numbers is off the charts you know but I'm saying? Like, I contributed in that Super Bowl, you know. Like I said, my stats, my numbers is off the charts, you know.
But I'm not the type that just throws that around, you know.
I just – I stay in my lane.
I'm grounded.
I do what I have to do.
But, you know, my numbers are there.
All you got to do is just look it up, you know.
Like you said, just look it up, you know.
But I'm not a flashy person, you know what I mean?
But, like, just being able to contribute in that Super Bowl, man,
being a starter, you know, not even just being a starter,
but just being out there, you know.
But there was just icing on the cake, man,
just being able to contribute in a Super Bowl win.
You know what I mean?
Like, you can go through preseason, many games,
but the Super Bowl, man, being able to contribute out there on the field
across from a guy named Tom
Brady, you know what I mean? Because you know
he's going to be legendary.
You know what I mean? So, you got
Bill Belichick, you got Tom Brady.
You know what I mean? And then we got us
on the defensive side.
Just being out there, man, to
contribute, knowing that I
left a print on the game, and that's always been my thing, too, man.
Just leave my print, you know.
I know it's not in my control, but I control what I put out there and what I do, you know.
So that's been my most memorable moments, man, was just being able to leave my print on the game, man.
You know what I'm saying?
And so well said. And believe me, that print that you left on,
I do not exaggerate when I say that you
are definitely one of the guys that always kept
me on the edge of my seat and that
I always enjoyed covering, both from a professional
standpoint and a personal standpoint.
Jamie, it's been a true pleasure.
We hope to have you back on
Locked On Patriots sometime soon,
maybe a little bit closer to the launch
of the Beach Football League to see how everything's going and to find out your progress.
So we definitely look forward to that.
I say, yeah, definitely.
I'll come back, man.
You know, ain't nothing.
And I appreciate that.
And we always do appreciate that.
Before I let you go, Jamie, is there anything that you'd like to enlighten Patriots Nation
on as we head into the new 2023 season
which is only a few days away from starting in earnest with camps and otas and things of that
nature uh do you have a message for patriots nation heading into that um yeah i got a couple
of more i'm excited to you know see what these guys working with this year. And I know y'all guys are, but the Patriots are the Patriots, man.
So just, you know, keep your head up, be excited, you know,
continue to support because we going to be there.
Like I said, I'm going to forever be a Patriot, you know.
They just started me, you know.
So I'm going to forever be a Patriot, man.
I'm never going to turn my back on the Patriots, you know so i'm gonna forever be a patriot man i'm never gonna turn my back on the patriots you know what i mean and number two i know i ain't playing ball no more but i am on tv
right now i don't know if you know that you know my old lady got a little tattoo show so black ink
crew la is coming out monday so it'll come out Monday, yeah. So we'll be on – it premieres Monday.
We'll be on TV.
That'll be on VH1, VET.
And three, hopefully y'all see me back out there with a headset on.
Ever thought I'd be a coach, man, you know like i said just being around bill belichick man
and dry mayo you know last year those guys just it seems fit and um i've learned so much you know
from those guys man i can i can definitely see myself coaching now but like i said man just
continue to support those guys, man.
Support us.
You know what I mean?
I'm team Patriots all the way.
You know, and we still going to make it happen.
Don't count us out.
Regardless of what, don't count us out.
Fascination still here, baby.
Absolutely.
Patriots fans, I could not have said it any better myself.
I'm going to let that sit.
It would be great to see Coach Collins out on the field. I will say that. You've got Troy, you've got Gerard out there, you've got Adrian back in the fold now. It really is. I think it would lend itself quite well. So you've got my vote, you've got my support, and I know a lot of my heart for taking time out of your busy schedule today to join us here on Lockdown Patriots.
Folks, once again, the new venture, definitely check out Black Ink on Monday, which is starting.
And of course, check out Jamie and the Beach Football League coming up.
My pleasure.
My honor to speak with you today.
And I thank you for your support of Lockdown Patriots.
Have a great weekend, Jamie.
Thank you, man.
Y'all do the same.
Thank you, my friend.
