Bill Belichick gets absolutely hosed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting committee.
This is Locked-on Patriots.
You are Locked-on Patriots, your daily New England Patriots podcast.
Part of the Locked-on Podcast Network, your team every day.
What's happening?
I am your host, Nick Cattles, born and raised in New England.
I have been covering the paths for 16 years.
Also, the co-host of the Greg Bedard Patriots podcast with Nick Cattels.
Welcome to Lockdown Patriots, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, now the number one sports podcast network, your team every day.
On tonight's breaking news episode in the third segment will entertain the idea that Bill Belichick won't be the only legendary Patriot to get job by this committee.
In the second segment, the reported reason for Belichick missing on the first ballot is more embarrassing than him missing it.
But first, this is absolutely.
stunning. Breaking news from ESPN just a little while ago, Bill Belichick will not be a first
ballot Hall of Famer. Don Van Nata and Seth Wickersham reporting for ESPN. They wrote
Bill Belichick, the eight-time Super Bowl winning coach is not a first ballot Hall of Famer.
In voting earlier this month, Belichick fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes needed for induction
to the Pro Football Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility. Four sources with
first-hand knowledge of the outcome told ESPN. Belichick received a call from a hall representative
last Friday afternoon with the news that he won't be inducted into the hall in Canton, Ohio,
this summer. Several sources who spoke with the coach over the weekend described Belichick as,
quote, unquote, puzzled and quote, disappointed, unquote, by his inability to secure support from
at least 80 percent of Hall committee members. When told that Belichick is not a first ballot hall
of famer Peter King, a 32-year Hall of Fame voter who didn't cast a ballot this year, said,
holy bleep, oh, bleep. The bleeps begin with F. I'm very, very surprised, unquote. King went on to say,
quote, a lot of things happen in that room that are unexpected. And of course, this is a big
surprise to me. Even Patrick Mahomes went to Twitter to react to this news. Patrick Mahomes posted
insane dot dot don't even understand how this could be possible. 80% of the vote?
Bill Belichick couldn't get 80% of the vote. Bill Belichick should have unanimously been voted
into the pro football Hall of Fame as a first ballot coach. Unanimously, let alone 80%.
Who are the 11, at least the 11? Who are the 11? Who are the 11? Who are the 11?
people that decided that Bill Belichick was unworthy of being a first ballot Hall of Fame coach.
This is an absolute joke.
It is shameful.
It is embarrassing.
It is downright ridiculous for anybody in that committee.
Even for the people who voted for Belichick, they should be embarrassed.
They know it's ridiculous.
This is a shameful process.
This is a circus.
There is nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody in the world of coaching football that deserves to be a first ballot Hall of Famer than Bill Belichick.
There's no one on God's Green Earth.
There's nobody before him.
There's nobody during his time.
There's nobody since he left the league.
Yes, unceremoniously.
But this is somebody who won six Super Bowls as a head coach.
Six.
Outrageous.
And not only that, Belichick, of course, also won two Super Bowls as an assistant coach in the league.
A total of eight rings and you're not a first ballot Hall of Fame guy?
Oh, and also his defensive game plan from the Super Bowl while with the Giants as the defensive coordinator,
that is in the Hall of Fame.
That sits in the Hall of Fame.
The defensive game plan from Bill Belichick, the D.C., made it to the Hall of Fame quicker than Bill
Belichick as the head coach.
That's insane.
This should have been a no-brainer.
This should have been the easiest vote in the history of this committee.
If anybody actually argued against voting for Bill Belichick, they should have been thrown
out of the room.
They should have been shunned.
They should have been told to walk out the door, not come back until they figure out
what's right and what's wrong.
This is just crazy.
The head coach that is second all-time.
wins, a record, including the playoffs of 333 and 178, it's just patently absurd.
Revoke memberships, kick people out.
They should not have the right to ever vote again.
That's how bad this is.
And I understand he had Tom Brady.
Every great coach has a great quarterback, or at least a very good quarterback.
Every single one of these head coaches need a talent to win Super Bowls, need a talent to win football games.
Bill Belichick is no different.
It's crazy that somebody could win eight Super Bowls and not be a first ballot guy.
And don't talk to me about there's always next year.
What's the difference, Nick, of him being voted in as a first ballot guy or voted in a year from now or two years from now?
give me the always next year. When you are a first ballot guy, that speaks volumes.
That that puts you at the very tippity top. That's the cream of the crop that we're talking about.
When you're a first ballot Hall of Famer, it means you were the best of the best.
And Bill Belichick is the best head coach that has ever done it. And the fact that he's not a first
ballot Hall of Famer is a smack in the face to him. It is disrespectful.
It is dismissive.
It is, again, outright, ridiculous.
I would even say a travis sham mockery on our hands.
You get in as a first ballot person to any Hall of Fame because of the respect that you garner from your colleagues.
It's a statement.
It's a spotlight.
It's highlighting the fact that, again, you're the best that's ever done it, or at least one of the best that has ever done it.
In a class of a bunch of Hall of Fame people,
well, Hall of Fame coaches and players,
there's a line,
difference between Hall of Fame person
and Hall of Fame coach or Hall of Fame player.
In that room, in that collective,
you are the guy that's at the top of the mountain.
That's the difference.
That's why you should be first ballot.
That's why I don't talk to me about 2027's induction ceremony.
And God forbid something ever happened to Bill Belichick.
from this point until next year's induction ceremony,
if he gets in next year, which he absolutely should,
or, I mean, just get rid of the committee altogether.
God forbid something would ever happen to him
and he does not get his day in Canton.
That would be tragic.
This is a joke.
Absolute joke.
But the reason, the reason according to,
sources that Bill Belichick is not a first ballot hall of famer should make you even more
angry than him not getting in. That's next. This is Lockdown Patriots, part of the Lockdown
Podcast Network, your team every day. There's nothing like being in an NBA arena, the crowd,

them. Don't forget to comment. And don't forget to subscribe. The goal is 9,000 subscribers by the
Super Bowl. It's going to take a huge push, but I feel like we can get there. All right.
How in the world did Bill Belichick not get in as a first ballot guy? What are the reasons why
he doesn't get in? We have some info, some intel on that. But first, I want to get to a
couple of your comments. Stephen Grossberg.
There has to be a way Goodell overrides this. Yeah?
Nope. There's no way that he can override it.
Let's not forget, Roger Goodell works for the owners. It's not the other way around.
And the owners, I don't think, care much. I don't think they're worried about Bill Belichick,
not making it in as a first ballot Hall of Famer. So Roger Goodell is going to sit there on his
hands and watch all of this play out. Parker Conrad, NFL.
of Fame Committee is a joke, could not agree more.
Absolute joke.
Else 31, 987, while I agree, I can't help but think of the human factor, someone who disagrees
with Bill's off the field life and deciding not to vote for him.
Again, this is, you know, this is not about the human being.
It's not about the person.
This is about your accomplishments in the NFL, what you did as a head coach.
And if you let Bill's personality or who he is as a person, you are.
a human being. If you let that affect your voting, you should not be voting.
David McWork, I don't like Bill, but he is 100% a Hall of Famer. No doubt about it.
I appreciate the comments. Keep sending him my way. So how in the world is Bill Belichick,
not a first ballot guy? Pettiness. Sore losers. Don Vanada, Seth Wicker Sham of ESPN wrote,
a source familiar with Belichick's thinking, said, quote, politics kept him out. He doesn't
believe this is a reflection on his accomplishments, unquote. Van Nata and Wickersham,
right. Multiple sources told ESPN that spy gate and deflategate came up in deliberations
among voters. A voter who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Bill Polion, an ardent
craft supporter, Robert Kraft, of course, and former GM of the Buffalo Bills in Indianapolis
Colts, told some voters he believed Belichette, Belichick should, quote,
quote, wait a year before induction as penance for Spygate.
Commissioner Roger Goodell also fined the Patriots 50 grand and Belichick 250 grand at that time for SpyGate.
And of course, it costs team a first round pick.
This is embarrassing.
This is junior high.
This is high school.
Bill Pollian should absolutely, absolutely be embarrassed by what.
what he said during these meetings and believing that Bill Belichick should not be voted in
to the Hall of Fame because of SpyGate.
If you believe that SpyGate or Deflate Gate is enough of a reason to not induct Bill
Belichick into the Hall of Fame as a first ballot guy, then you should believe Bill
Belichick doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame at all.
If it's that serious, he should never get in.
if you're truly angry about him, quote unquote, cheating the game,
he should never be allowed in the Hall of Fame.
It's utterly ridiculous to say, well, he deserves.
He deserves to wait a year because of SpyGate.
Wait a year?
An arbitrary term thrown out there by Bill Pollian?
Bill Pollian?
I mean, what are we doing here?
As if other head coaches haven't done sketchy stuff,
as if other teams haven't done sketchy stuff.
As if the Indianapolis cults, by the way,
have not done sketchy stuff.
Hey, Bill Pollian,
how about pumping in fake noise
through your speakers in your dome?
How about some of the stuff about the heat
inside the stadium at times?
How about some of the rumors about the water
that was being served by the...
I mean, we've got all these controversies and conspiracies.
Bill Pollyan and the Indianapolis cults.
have done some things that have made a lot of people around the league wonder.
But Bill Pollian, the pettiness in holding this against Bill Belichick,
you want to know why Bill Polion's upset.
It's not because of SpyGate.
It's not because of deflategate, which, by the way,
we all know was a nothing burger and has been proven to be a nothing burger
since the fraudulent investigation that was held.
You want to know why Bill Pollyan's upset at Bill Belichick?
It's because Bill Belichick's Patriots beat the bag out of Bill Pollyan's cults.
It's because if Bill Belichick and Tom Brady and the Patriots never existed,
Bill Pollyan and Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts would have won many more Super Bowls.
That's why.
That is why.
And if you want to relitigate Spigate, SpyGate, Have at it.
Relitigate SpyGate all you want.
But didn't they already serve their quote,
quote, penance.
I mean, it's just, it's so stupid.
It's borderline comical.
Isn't the penance, the punishment that you got in the moment?
Isn't the fact that the Patriots had to give up a first round pick
and that the team and Belichick that they were fined because of SpyGate?
Wasn't that their penance?
Now 18 years later, you're going to
bring this up in a meeting?
What are we doing?
Almost two decades
after SpyGate, after
they went on and won multiple
other championships, after they
already were punished because
of SpyGate, you're going to bring it back
up two decades later in a
clandestine room with a pro
football Hall of Fame committee
to cry and moan and complain
and say, well, he doesn't
deserve it, at least not
this year, because do you remember
spy gate 20 years ago.
Just think about how junior high that is from Bill Pollian.
Think about that.
Think about that.
And here's another point I would bring up here.
Nobody with a personal beef should be allowed in that room.
Bill Polion should not even be allowed in that room.
Let's say like Eric Mangini of all people was going to get voted into the Hall of Fame.
And Bill Belichick was part of the committee.
Belichick should not have the right to vote on Eric Mangini if they have a personal beef.
Bill Pollian obviously is biased against Bill Belichick.
He obviously has biased against the coach.
There's no doubt about it.
He should not be allowed to vote.
If you have a personal vendetta, if you have some kind of personal agenda that you're harkening back to 20 years ago,
as your best point as to why the best coach of all time should not be a first ballot guy,
if you're digging that deep, if you're being that petty, you shouldn't be in the room.
Anybody with a personal history, with a personal beef, with a vendetta, an agenda should be out.
Replace them with somebody else when you're talking about voting for a particular person.
If you got to do it, you got to do it, because this is embarrassing by Bill Pollian.
This is not a popularity contest.
It's not for the person who is the most well-liked.
What you should do is put your personal grudges and pettiness aside and say,
this guy is the best head coach that we've ever had in this league.
He deserves this honor and he deserves to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Throw your agenda in the garbage and do the right thing.
but instead Bill Pollian and the committee did not do that.
Be ashamed of yourselves.
Everybody who voted no should be ashamed of themselves.
Give up your right to vote next year.
You should not be a member of this committee.
You are unsurious.
This was an unsurious vote in an unsurious result.
There's no other way to look at this.
Absolute joke.
Bill Pollian.
You'll be remembered, Bill.
You will be remembered, my friend.
Just crazy.
All right.
Now that Belichick has been robbed.
One has to wonder if Robert Kraft will continue to be robbed.
This is Lockdown Patriots, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network.

appreciate every single one of you.
So Robert Kraft is also up for the Hall of Fame again.
As we know, he has been bypassed several times.
Robert Kraft should already be in the Hall of Fame.
He is the owner of a franchise that has six Super Bowl titles.
Not only do you look at the success of his franchise,
but what about the impact that Robert Kraft has had throughout this league?
he saved the league from a lockout going back 14, 15 years ago.
He spearheaded the CBA negotiations.
I'll never forget Jeff Saturday, standing there with Robert Kraft,
telling the whole football world that Robert Kraft's the reason why there was going to be football that season.
So he saved the NFL's took us during those talks.
He, you know, arguably one of the most consistent, as far as owners go,
one of the most consistent winners in sports of the past 20 plus years.
Oh, and by the way, he kept the team in New England.
There was this thought that the Patriots might move to St. Louis.
We saw how a football team in St. Louis would work out.
There was talk about the Patriots possibly moving to Hartford, moving down to Connecticut.
Robert Kraft kept the Patriots close to Boston, kept them in New England.
and if you weren't aware, Boston is a top 10 media market.
If you don't think that matters for the NFL, again, saving the leagues took us,
keeping this team in a top market, big business for the NFL.
So is Robert Kraft going to get bypassed again.
Well, according to Don Van Nata and Seth Wickersham of ESPN in the same Bill
Belichick story, they write that it's unknown whether Robert Kraft or any other finalists
receive the necessary votes for induction.
Somebody leaked this stuff about Belichick, right?
And this is a continuing issue for the Patriots organization.
As Evan Lazar pointed out on Twitter tonight, you know, you look at the 70s Steelers.
They have 10 players plus the head coach, plus the owner in the Hall of Fame.
You look at the 1980s 49ers.
They have six players, the head coach, and the owner, and the Hall of Fame.
You look at the 1990s Cowboys.
They have six players, the head coach, and the owner, all in the Hall of Fame.
But when you look at the Patriots, Belichick, not a first ballot guy.
Adam Venetary, best kicker in NFL history.
Most points, not in the Hall of Fame.
Rodney Harrison continues to somehow get dismissed by the committee year after year after year.
And there are more players from not just one, but both Patriots dynasties that are not in the Hall of Fame that should be in the Hall of Fame.
This is a trend.
This is a theme.
This is what the NFL does to the Patriots.
And they try to, with pretzel logic, tell you why these guys should not be Hall of Famers.
What does Adam Venetary have to do with SpyGate or Rodney Harrison?
Like, what are we doing?
It just continues.
It continues.
And I wonder, I would ask Bill Pollian, or maybe Bill Pollian feels differently because he's friendly with Robert Kraft.
Has Robert Kraft finally served his quote unquote penance?
Has he?
Has he served his penance?
And what's he serving the penance for?
Is it from SpyGate to Flake Gate?
is because what happened down in Florida?
What's going on here?
Robert Kraft is easily a Hall of Famer.
If Jerry Jones is in the Hall of Fame,
Robert Kraft should be in the Hall of Fame.
And the fact that they continue to make the owner sit there and wait
after not voting in so many other Patriots during that time.
And now Bill Pollian gets to walk around with this,
chest out proud as a peacock with the 10 other voters who are clueless and I guess feel proud of
themselves because they they drew a line in the sand by not voting Bill Belichick in as a first ballot
guy.
So will they just continue to punish the Patriots organization and continue to punish Robert Kraft?
Are they going to wait until Robert Kraft passes away to then finally put him in the Hall of Fame?
They're fortunate that Robert Kraft has been in good health.
Just unreal.
As Calanon says, they're going to try to keep Tom Brady out of the Hall of Fame too?
Hey, look, if you're going to sit there and you're going to say spy gate and deflategate is a reason why Bill Belichick is not going to be a first ballot guy,
then you've got to say that Tom Brady doesn't deserve to be a first ballot guy, right?
If you're going to hold it to that standard, if you're going to hold it to that standard, then Tom Brady is not a first ballot.
Hall of Famer. And anything is possible now. Anything is on the table. When you say that Bill Belichick is not worthy of a first ballot, you could say Tom Brady is not worthy of a first ballot. Bill Belichick, best coach of all time. As we know, Tom Brady, best player of all time. Same, same. Bill Belichick accomplished what he did in his field, what Tom Brady has accomplished in his field. If you're going to dismiss Belichick as a first timer, then you should, you should, you should.
Dismissed Tom Brady.
I mean, that's how ridiculous it is when you pull yourself from 30,000 feet and think about this.
Jajajajajajajaj Jabroni says it's literally embarrassing.
It is.
Uber tripping.
Hall of Fame just lost credibility.
Embarrassing.
They should be ashamed.
If I were in that committee, I would be moving furniture over the fact that Bill
Belichick was not a first ballot guy.
And let's see. Let's see if they, let's see if they keep that, that level for Tom Brady.
Let's see if Bill Pollian is in that room next year and saying, you know what?
I don't think Tom Brady should be in the Hall of Fame because of the Flakegate.
He should serve his penance.
What kind of sham is this?
Like Bill Polion, you should be ashamed to yourself and anybody else,
but especially Bill Polion, who apparently was the leader of the circus in that room.
