Hmm. Makes sense.
Great morning humans.
Great morning world.
This is your boy.
Dr. J.C. Dornick and welcome to another edition of the Make Sense with Dr. J.C. podcast.
Today's episode is about making sense of limitless potential.
I call this unlocking your limitless potential, the journey within.
How shedding limitations and integrating insights can help you tap into your true potential.
The idea of becoming limitless captures the imagination of many, me included, and it's fueled by
science, popular culture, and the allure of human potential. This episode explores whether being
limitless is something to strive for externally or whether it's an intrinsic state that's
waiting to be uncovered and set free by removing the self-imposed limitations that we have.
We're going to draw on some work from our great friend Jim Quick and his best-selling book Limitless.
We're also going to make references to one of my favorite movies, Limitless, starring Bradley Cooper,
and the transformative realm of plant medicine, which is near and dear to my heart.
We're going to delve into how the pruning of acquired beliefs, perceptions, and program concepts can in fact unlock our limitless potential.
We're going to reflect and use the seven piece of integration that are,
are provided and created by the Arcana Spiritual Center, which is the premier plant medicine
retreat found in many, many locations in the world, including the Amazon jungles of Peru, as well
as the sacred valley near Machapitia. And we're going to use them as a practical framework for
living a limitless life by acknowledging that we are already limitless and committing to the inner
work of integration, we can become, as I like to say, unfuck withable and navigate life with
clarity, purpose, and empowerment. So I want to take this time to welcome you to the Make Sense
with Dr. J.C. Dornick podcast. And for those of you that are new, this podcast covers topics that
expand human consciousness and performance. On the Make Sense podcast, we acknowledge that it's who you
are that determines how well what you do works, and that perception is subjective and an acquired
taste. When you change the way that you look at things, the things that you look at begin to change.
So welcome to the uprising of the sleepwalking masses, and once again, welcome to the Make Sense with
J.C. Dordock podcast. As a reminder, the Makes Sense with Dr. J.C. podcast is sponsored in full by
the Make Sense Academy, which is our private community and mastermind and psychological
safe haven, full of the mindset, tools, action steps, and collaboration that will help
you begin to thrive. We like to say that the Make Sense Academy is the place that you go,
when you're ready to stop just simply going through life and you want to begin the process of
growing through life. So check out the Make Sense Academy, our featured sponsor. So let's begin with
a question. Are we already limitless? This is a great question. So the concept of being limitless
is very compelling. It suggests the state of infinite potential, boundless creativity,
and the ability to handle adversity with grace. But is limitless something that we
we obtain and find externally, or is it already part of us and simply hidden behind the many,
many layers of limitations that we've acquired along the way over time? Human beings are born
with immense limitless potential. But as I like to explain in my interface response system,
the programming that we receive throughout our lives from our MFTPSE, which stands for
our mother, father, teacher, preacher, society, and then the paying forward of evolution.
progressively begins to narrow our perception of what's possible over time.
This programming shapes our beliefs, behaviors, and responses,
often anchoring us in a reality of limitations that we unconsciously just accept as the truth.
The journey to becoming limitless may not be about adding more things, tools, or knowledge,
but more so subtracting, minimizing, or shedding the layers of the conditioned beliefs that
obscure our natural potential. As the great Michelangelo said, when he was asked how he created one of
his greatest works of art in David, he said, I simply started with a big block of stone and began
chipping away at everything that was not David. Like sculpting your life as a masterpiece from marble,
the art of becoming limitless is about pruning away everything in your life that isn't aligned with
your true self and potential. Let's look at the science and
the brain and talk about unlocking this potential. My great friend and person that I owe all of my
devouring of books that you guys very often have and my memory recall, I owe to Jim Quick.
In his bestselling book, Limitless, which is one of our top suggested books, he delves into
the brain's capacity to adapt and growth through what everybody knows as neuroplasticity.
He contends that we can reprogram our minds to break free from the limiting beliefs by adopting
three key things. They are mindset. Believing in your ability to grow and learn. Motivation.
Finding your why to fuel your journey. And then third, methods, using proven strategies to
expand your knowledge and skills. In one of my favorite all-time movies, Limitless, which featured
Bradley Cooper, his character uses a fictional drug called NZT-48, which unlocks 100% of
his brain's capacity. And what that does is it demonstrates or at least proposes what would happen
if we untapped the potential that we all intuitively sense, but rarely have access to. While
NZT-48 is fictional, the idea mirrors the truth that most of us are operating below our potential,
and this is due to self-imposed mental and emotional barriers. So let's talk about this mysterious
role of something that's near and dear to my heart, and that is plant medicine.
And the idea of using this mysterious thing called plant medicine to expand our consciousness.
Plant medicine ceremonies offered by places like the Arcana Spiritual Center, which is definitely
the place that this podcast recommends that you make your first stop if you're ever looking to
explore or you're feeling called to plant medicine. And like I said before, they're located in Peru,
and Mexico, they provide a powerful context for exploring and transcending limitations.
These plant medicines like ayahuasca, psilocybin, the infamous Sapo from the Bufo frog, or even
things like San Pedro and Peiote, are known to help dissolve the boundaries of the ego,
revealing a profound sense of interconnectedness and clarity. Now, just look at how closely related
that would be to shedding something and unveiling something.
form of limitlessness. Many who work with plant medicine, me included, do so with various reasons
and intentions that fit into three primary categories. Now, pay attention to this because intentions
have a lot to do with this. So when people seek out plant medicine, they're typically looking for
answers to big questions, like what's my purpose? What's the meaning of life? What's holding me back?
Another category of their intentions would be healing and growth. And that would be things like navigating
through trauma, anxiety, or general confusion with your identity.
The third category for people's intentions is just simple curiosity and expansion.
This was me.
I was extremely curious about exploring the unknown and uncovering hidden aspects of the self,
meaning I just always knew there was more.
And I just got to this place in my life where I realized that I've lived most of my life
thinking I knew what I was doing and putting exclamation points behind things.
but I intuitively knew there was more that I couldn't access without some help.
Those are the three main categories of why somebody would seek out plant medicine.
When you look at those three categories, if you're like me, it makes me say,
hmm, I notice that all three of these areas demonstrate the removal of limitations
or the bypassing of our analytical program minds in order to promote expansion.
Now, you don't have to go to the jungles of Peru to experiment with plantments.
medicine, although it's something that a lot of people use, and I'm one of them. However, this true
transformation actually doesn't begin in the ceremony, or you could say it's the catalyst,
but it begins more after the ceremony during the process of what's called integration. Now, I just
want to put a pause here for a second and just indicate that we have experiences in life all the time,
and they could be positive or negative. What I mean by an experience is just something that kind of
stops us that we take note of and we experience it. You have a choice to either absorb it and do the
work, make it part of your life, or just like the clouds in the sky, let them pass on by and get right
back to your regularly scheduled program. So the same thing happens with working in a ceremony with
plant medicine. It's like you have this massive breakthrough, like many of you have had, and maybe
something I say today will be a breakthrough for you. But what you do with it after is what we could
call the work, but that's where the magic really, really happens, because that's where the
distinctions are made that unveil the validity and value of maybe getting rid of some things,
adding and subtracting things to your life. So let's talk about this integration process because it can
be used for anything. You don't have to go do plant medicine to use the seven peas of integration.
So at this amazing facility, which I recommend that everybody starts off with, called the Arcana
spiritual center. They offer something called the seven P's of integration. And these provide a structured
framework for turning that experience with plant medicine into insights that will create lasting change.
And isn't that what we're looking to do? These steps are essential for taking these potential
newfound limiting beliefs and allowing yourself to step into your limitless potential. Those seven
P's are practice. This means identifying the teachings that you have received. And this could be
in any aspect of your life when you receive teachings and information and then putting them into practice.
If you don't put these things into play, you will just walk around like most people knowing things.
It's all about action. The second P is pause. Obviously, this is one of my favorite, and it's the second
stage and second step of the interface response system. Taking a pause to verify your inner state
and practice mindfulness, modulating that state, expanding on it.
and making more space for contemplation.
Do it as many times as you can during the day, and you'll see a lot of benefit.
Probably one of the most powerful things that a human being could ever do is recognize
that our brains are programmed and, for the most part, calling the shots.
And that program perspective that we have has been programmed by others, not you,
by your life experience, your mother, father, teacher, preacher, society, and evolution.
That validates you pausing what you're not.
knee-jerk reflex and response and perception would be so that you could, as I just said,
move into this space of disputation or contemplation or challenge. And the reason why that's important
is because it's only in that space that you can halter your programmed way of looking at things
and responding and leave room for change. Three, patience. Practicing patience with yourself
and your own process. This stuff takes time. This is why we came up with the term praction.
Praction refers to the idea of being in practice of being in action.
We're not good at it at first.
This is why we have to be patient.
If you commit to doing something like practicing the pause, for instance, you have to be patient with it.
It's something new and it's something that will take root as you go.
The fourth P, pruning, one of my favorites.
This indicates the cutting away and removal of the things that we no longer benefit from or the things that no longer apply.
My wife and I and our family, we practice what's called minimalism.
And this is not just having nothing.
This is just going around our house, our community, and our surroundings, and removing
all things and people that no longer apply, meaning are no longer in line and in support
of the direction that we're moving.
So pruning is about removing to promote growth.
The fifth one, pilgrimage, we're always encouraged to put ourselves in motion, to visit
sacred places, sanctuaries in nature, get outside, barefoot in the grass, temples and shrines,
or even visiting with a deity that you align with. Now, why would that be important? Once again,
expansion. Allowing yourself to sit in a space where growth is leveraged rather than staying in
the mental prison that you have been in. So the six is preach not. This is an important one. We always have to
take caution and practice mindfulness when we're considering sharing our experiences and plant medicine
and ceremonies or even our breakthrough in the work that we're doing because these are things
that you had to be ready for. Nobody told you to do these things. So we have to be careful
about sharing our thoughts, feelings and personal opinions about things like plant medicine
or about the work that you're doing because as soon as you do that, it's no longer about
the person. It's about you. And that will actually hinder them.
and hinder your own experience. And then the seventh P is called Plafter, P-L-A-U-G-H-T-E-R. And that is a combination of the words play
and laughter. Allow for fun and play outside of the robotic nature of your regularly scheduled program.
Why is that? Well, once again, anything that you can do to allow yourself to sit in a space that's
outside of your robotic programmed nature, which is where your concepts and your limitations live
will be beneficial. So these steps are not about adding more things to your life. Think about it.
They're more about removing the noise and clutter that prevents you from realizing what?
Your limitless innate potential that you were born with. So I want to take a second to just really
highlight that fourth P. And that's the pruning process.
and it's about shedding limitations.
Achieving your fullest potential requires stripping away the unnecessary layers of doubt,
fear, and programming.
This is not a one-time event, but a continuous practice of the following things.
Mindfulness and awareness.
Awareness, I mean identifying limiting beliefs that no longer apply.
Aha, there's a limiting belief that no longer applies.
Practicing mindfulness means without judgment.
observing your thoughts and emotions rather than judging and labeling them and recognizing that they no longer
apply. Reframing. Replacing negative patterns with empowering ones. Shifting from problem focused to solution
focused. In our Make Sense Academy, we have this wonderful, enriching community that is what we call
solution focused. It doesn't mean that we don't have problems, but in our community, we have a general rule
that we always look at everything with a solution focus because we want to promote growth.
Shifting from looking at things that are happening in life as things happening to you,
to that of asking, how is this happening for me or for you?
The last one, consistency.
Practicing and wiring these new healthy habits that align with you into your brain
so that you can begin to repetitively, robotically, have healthy habits that are in support of your goals and dreams.
Here are five practical action steps to leverage this idea of limitless potential.
One, practice mindfulness.
I mean, you've heard me say this so many times, but you can't say it enough.
I recommend that people start each day with five to ten minutes of meditation to observe
their thoughts without participating in them.
This is a power move, the idea of removing yourself from this desire or necessity to
participate with your thoughts.
and rather looking at the sky and recognizing that the thoughts are just the clouds that eventually
will dissipate and fly by or pass by.
We're going to stop participating with all of our thoughts and just allow ourselves like
we're in a movie theater eating popcorn.
Observe.
The second one.
Let's start reframing our limiting beliefs.
Challenge at least one of your beliefs daily and question whether it serves your goals and
dreams or not.
This is what it means to dispute.
Now, there's something called cognitive disputation where we allow ourselves to dispute our thoughts,
and especially when there are limiting beliefs.
There's another term called cognitive distancing, which means to separate yourself,
but cognitive disputation is the first step.
We always teach our members in the Make Sense Academy to start off by just saying,
huh, just think about that sound and what it means.
It says, I hear you, but I haven't made my mind.
mind up about it. That's what HMMM stands for. So I'm going to think about it a little bit. I'm going to
challenge it and dispute it in this space. Three, engage in continuous learning. One of my favorites.
I like to devour information. Once again, a shout out to my friend Jim Quick, who taught me how to
speed read and take my reading speed and retention and increase it by threefold. Just imagine,
well, I read a book a week. That's almost 52.
books a year. Engage in continuous learning meaning. Remove the right protect switch from your brain.
Read books. Take courses and explore new concepts, theories, and skills that expand your perspective.
Remember, perspective is everything. Whatever you see and perceive is based on and persuaded by your
perspective. By altering your perspective or allowing it to expand and be shaped and molded according to what it is that you
greatest desire is at this moment, this is going to help you learn about the powerful potential of
or perhaps you might even want to learn about the powerful potential of things like plant medicine.
And the reason why I would say that, if you feel a calling to try something like that or anything
in that realm, because by the way, it sits in the same realm of doing things like meditation,
yoga, or deep breathwork, these are all utilities that help us augment our reality and see things
differently. Some people like to say that plant medicine helps you see the world that exists within the
world. The only reason you would consider doing that is if you're called to do it, but also if you just
can't figure out and navigate how to expand your mind and unlock this limitless potential on your own.
And that was me. And it was very, very beneficial. All the information and contacts of these locations and any
tools that I share will be found in the description. And then the fourth practical action step to leverage
limitless potential, seek community. Join groups like the Make Sense Academy or if you're inclined,
the friends of Arcana, and attend retreats like the ones that I've been talking about,
or masterminds and virtual hangouts, and surround yourself with growth-minded, judgment-free,
solution-focused individuals. The last one, commit to integration. We spoke about this before.
whether you've been on a retreat or not, as you grow, journal your insights, set actionable goals,
and revisit them weekly, become very familiar. And you'll find this in the description,
the seven piece of integration from Arcana, just like Alcoholics Anonymous in the 12 Steps,
which don't require that you're an alcoholic. These seven peas could be the Bible for you to work
on becoming limitless. The urgency of integration, what's at stake?
here. Why would we go through all of this work? Well, the integration process is not a luxury,
but a necessity. It can be the bridge between insight and actual transformation. That's how we bridge
that gap. Without integration, these insights that we gain from spiritual experiences or breakthrough
moments and self-reflection will begin to fade. And I think you know what that feels like. And that's
going to leave you in an unchanged jacuzzi experience of personal growth and learning. By committing to
integration, the real work, you align your life with your limitless potential, and it keeps growing.
Perhaps you're already limitless. Have you ever wondered that? A lot of people find themselves
trying to become limitless, but not looking inward and say, maybe my mom was right. I am limitless.
There's nothing I can't do. Think about this for a second. The moment that you even create a thought
about something, you begin building these limitations. In Buddhism, they work with meditation to become
thoughtless. Have you ever considered the power of just not needing to know and just being thoughtless?
We live in a society where that would indicate that you're stupid or some sort of a loser.
Well, I beg to differ. I love not knowing. The journey of becoming limitless doesn't require that you
find something external. It's about unwrapping that beautiful present and uncovering what's already
within you. Whether through mindfulness, structured systems like the interface response system found in the
Make Sense Academy, or the transformative experiences found through plant medicine, the path to limitless
lies in the pruning away of the illusion of your limitations. If we use the analogy of looking at a pond
that has ripples in it because somebody dropped a pebble.
Perhaps you are not the ripple or the pebble.
Perhaps you are the still pond beneath all of it.
Embrace this process and you'll discover the limitless version of you that you seek
has been there all the while.
Make sense?
Hey, love and appreciate you and just remember this.
If you learn something today, give it away.
It's only then that it'll stay.
See you next time.
Hmm. Makes sense.
