Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Make Sense with Dr. J.C. Dornick podcast. This podcast covers topics that expand human consciousness and performance. On the Make Sense podcast, we acknowledge that it's who you are that determines how well what you do works, and that perception is a subjective and acquired taste. What we know is that when you change the way you look at things, the things that you look at begin to change. Welcome to the uprising of the sleepwalking masses. Welcome to the Make Sense with Dr. J.C. Dornick podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Makes sense. Morning world. Welcome to the Rise Up with Dragon podcast with your host, Dragon. Great Morning World. Welcome to Season 4 of what you've come to know as the Rise Up with Dragon show. This unique five-minute format will act as a tool to take your good morning and turn it into your great morning and place you as the dominant force of your days. As a reminder, all right, folk, ready, set, grow. This is called Praction, P-R-A-C-T-I-O-N. And I'm pretty sure that I made this up.
Starting point is 00:01:39 A couple of dragon thoughts to get us warmed up. Came up with this idea this morning called ass-kicking calm. An ass-kicking calm is just this funny way of saying, Like, is it possible? Can you both be calm and kicking ass at the same time? So I was thinking about that. Can you calmly kick ass? And I call it ass kicking calm. And I say yes at this time. And there's my three famous words at this time, because I'm open to changing my mind at all times. Are you? I'm reflecting today on all the things that I've learned and all the things that you're going to get from my book and put into practice like Buddhism, like meditation, like stoicism, et cetera, all those things, all these philosophies and things that I've applied in my life,
Starting point is 00:02:22 and how they've all given me the ability to interface with the world in a state of calm. So there's the calm. So you can understand how being enlightened in calm, I call up the calm is a wonderful way to go through life. Then noticing that in this state of indestructible and unfuck-withable calm, I have a tendency to kick some serious ass and take me, Can you relate to that? So I'll call this ass kicking calmness. So coming to a rise up near you, meaning that's going to be a rise up that I'm going to do because I just in love with that.
Starting point is 00:02:59 So ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. The time-sucking nonsense has been removed from your reality at this point. So feel free to roam about the world and kick some ass. This is fraction. Let's get into it. So there's an old joke, and I'm sure you've heard this. a fellow goes to New York to attend a concert but gets lost, right? He's going to a concert and he gets lost. He spots a fellow who's carrying a violin case. And he's like, oh, this guy must know. So he says, sir, can you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall? And I'm sure you know the end of this. So the musician smiles and says, practice, practice, practice. So there's the joke. But that joke spawned today's and something that is very, very prominent in my book, this concept of
Starting point is 00:03:44 traction. So in my book, I share a story, and this is where it kind of linked up, I share a story that reflects an interesting yet frustrating observation. And anybody that's involved in delivering and sharing personal growth knows what I'm saying. It's an interesting observation that all of my listeners, people that follow the podcast, people that I coach, people that I speak in front of in large audience and things like that, what they do is they listen and they learn, but they don't take any action. So I started making an observation that they were listening and learning, like I've spent much of my life, catch yourself if you're doing this, listening and learning, yet not moving into action. And this is really, really fascinating because it completely unveils a flaw. I see some folks that
Starting point is 00:04:31 are just really, really amazing servants that deliver great content on Instagram and social media and everything and have followings. Well, have you ever stopped to observe that you've created a following of people that are listening and learning and just walking around knowing but not getting anything done. So when I would step in there and I would inquire why, why are you listening and learning and knowing but not going into action? I noticed that the very practice of learning, and this is a big, big thing to acknowledge, the very practice of learning gave them the illusion that they were in action. So the next time you're involved in this podcast or learning from anybody, catch yourself. and identify the fact that you think that you're doing something. Really cool. So hence, not actually moving forward towards their goals, but feeling the benefits of what I call fake work.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Here's what fake work is. Activities that keep you busy and pass the time, giving you the illusion of productivity. That's what fake work is. So in fact, this became evident as a flaw in the entire realm of personal growth and self-development. So the next time you go to a Tordi Robbins event or anything or hear me speak. Just look around and just look at all the people that are excited and in the jacuzzi experience and leave there with no action intention but feeling like something's changed because something inside of them is changed, but they don't manifest it into action. There's a flaw in personal growth and self-development. People walking around feeling productive just knowing how to succeed. Catch yourself doing this.
Starting point is 00:06:10 This is a powerful move in your life. The fact that you think you're succeeding because you know how. So after interviewing just an amazing author that I've become great friends with, author of Indistractable, my friend, NIR, IEL. So shout out to NIR in Singapore. If you haven't read that book, that's just a no-brainer. And he also wrote a book called Hooked, Big fan of NIR. I learned that learning itself, it's nothing than a form of distraction in the absence of action.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Ooh, that sucks, right? Because what that means is that you got to listen. to this podcast and grab these golden nuggets and recognize that if you don't put them into play, well, you're not going to keep them. You're going to forget them and it'll just be a waste of your time. So you may be wasting your time listening to me talk right now if you're not intending to put it into action. So I came up with this new concept and I shared it and it's called fraction. And what fraction means, it's the state where action meets consistent practice. And it's so fascinating to look at this. So fascinating to look at the moment where a human
Starting point is 00:07:10 being, and this is a subset of human beings, most people don't do this, but it's interesting to look at that moment where a human being makes a quality decision to take full on radical responsibility for their life and go into full, full, legitimate action and leverage their desired state into reality. So they make that decision, and that's a step, but that doesn't mean that they're in a state of traction. This sucks too, if you're that person. Then what's interesting about that small subset of the herd, right, is that they think that they're all set. That's another form of fake work is making the decision, say, I'm all in, like a full body all in, which is what happens in the fake work environment of social media, but also personal growth, self-development. And they
Starting point is 00:07:55 think that they're all set because they took the road less traveled compared to the herd. They strayed from the general herd that doesn't even do that. This happens on January 1st, right? And they stepped into that high leverage arena of action play, or so they think they did. But here's the thing. I want to share with you that there's a subset of that subset. So there's a subset group to even this type of action taker makes it to the top. There's a very, very distinct reason why few people sit at the table at the top of the mountain. And it has nothing to do with whether or not you deserve it. And I will tell you, there's a seat at the top of the mountain and at that table for you and nobody else is going to take it because it's your seat, but it's collecting dust.
Starting point is 00:08:39 And now you'll know why. So I observed in life in this subset, this subset of people that take action, I observed in life that two men enter, one man wins. And I'm always fascinated why two people in the same environment and same in the same circumstances, one wins and the other one doesn't. They both have the same potential. So only one type of action taker makes it to the top. The other loses not only their quest for the gold, but they also, here's where it gets sticky,
Starting point is 00:09:11 the people that say they're in action and don't follow through. They also now develop a concept in their head and a conversation with themselves that this whole idea of taking full on action doesn't work because they say, every time I take action, nothing happens. So here's your awakening. Like the Carnegie Hall story in the beginning, it's practice. we'll call these people practitioner. That's what we're going to call them today.
Starting point is 00:09:35 There's a next step to embrace that these people take advantage of and it happens after you take that big step of committing to action. You're not going to be good at it first. This is the realization. When you take action, you have to recognize that you're not going to be good at it first.
Starting point is 00:09:52 It's new to you, this whole concept of being an action. Just the idea and step of taking action doesn't mean you're an action-oriented person. It's new. It's like a new country. So you're not going to be good at it at first. Therefore, results are not typical to those people that try it for a given time. You can't be in action for a given amount of time. Success takes practice, my friends. You get better at it, that idea of being an action-oriented person and practicing action-oriented activities along the way. There's the misperception is that just deciding to do it is enough. And for those of you that don't even decide to go at it, you don't even have a chance.
Starting point is 00:10:32 So if you're ready to start becoming a goal crusher, make that quality decision. And a quality decision is when you make a decision to do it, observe the work and effort that's attached to it and decide to embrace it anyway. That's why I'm wearing my embrace the suck shirt because it's going to suck. Success is inconvenient. It's impractical. So make that quality decision to go all in and acknowledge that what you've really committed to do is.
Starting point is 00:10:58 is not quit practicing in the arena of play until the day that you become successful. And all success brings you is the ability to see the next thing that you have to start practicing and not be good at and work and work and get it to get to that next step that will unveil the next one. Makes sense? So are you in to become a practitioner? Well, I sure hope so. And I hope this stuff makes sense to you. So love and appreciate you all.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Have an amazing day. And I'll see you tomorrow. makes sense.
