Makes sense.
This is the evolution of gratitude.
A crucial and critical part of my morning routine
is to take control of that fragile moment
when we move from unconscious to conscious,
that moment where we first open our eyes.
In my book, I go over this in depth,
but the trick to taking command of your morning
is to claim control of your thoughts in that fragile space as your brain, your intel processor,
looks to boot up yesterday's program. You see, yesterday's program intends to provide another
mediocre day controlled by the same things that held you back then. And it's not your fault.
It's not your brain's fault. It's just the way you're wired. You just need to know that your
brain is going to boot up what it knows and it doesn't know anything about the future. It just
knows about the past. So in other words, yesterday, anything that happened yesterday or before that
no longer applies because it's today. How do I do this? Real simple, but profound. Gratitude.
Simply catch that moment when you open your eyes and say these words. Thank you.
In your half-conscious state, that first level of gratitude and saying thank you is focused on the simple basics.
The breath in your lungs, the beat in your heart, the sight in your eyes, the sounds that you can hear and the smells that you can smell.
Or maybe even you just recognize, hey, I just got to redo another 24.
This places a pause on your boot up of yesterday's program, and it inserts a new upgrade and theme to the day.
Yesterday's program starts to say, hey, wait a second, something's going on here. We must wait.
Gratitude is the superhigh way to the present moment where you focus only on what you have, not what you had or have not.
as you move further towards consciousness, carrying this theme with you, you evolve that state of gratitude
to its next deeper, more meaningful stage. You recognize things like family or your partner.
I like to roll over, give my wife a kiss. My wife is chicken, as you may know, give her a kiss,
and I'll actually take my gratitude and I'll pass it on to her and I'll say, I'm thankful for you.
I love you and I appreciate you.
That's another state of gratitude.
You've got to pay it forward.
I might even consider in this deeper level the roof over my head, the water that comes out of my shower, the food in my fridge, the fact that I have a fridge, etc.
Then it continues.
You move about and continue to evolve that state of gratitude even further where you build on this theme.
and you allow the evolution of your gratitude to start expanding all the way to your empathy for
others and the appreciation of anything as it is part of everything.
Obstacles, challenges, we know that they're the way, the appreciation of the blessings of your
potential and your possibilities for greatness, taking note of the unpredictable nature
and value of time, giving you the fierce urgency to
act now. That's important. Recognizing in gratitude that you have 24 hours, another gift that redo,
but you don't know whether or not it's your last. So you take fierce urgency to act now. And then you
realize in gratitude, I'm grateful for the fact that I can take fierce urgency and claim control of my
life right now. All of this, all of this amazing stuff because you simply took
that precious little moment when you woke up and started your day and you went from eyes closed
to eyes open and said, thank you. Well, thank you. I'm grateful for this opportunity right now
to be with you and excited what will happen in all of your lives if you begin this process today.
And like I love to say, I wake up every day and I run this structure. And what it does is it gives me
the foolish impression that this day is going to be amazing. And the reason why I do that,
because it's foolish to think that this day is not going to be amazing. So choose your foolish.
