Starting point is 00:00:19 Don't hit that record button. Dog. Too late. Too late. It's too late. I feel like I need a, I feel like the greatest way of dealing with, with like people just like fuck with you
Starting point is 00:00:30 is to be like, shut up before I fuck you. That's John Cena. That's John Cena. That's like the best way to go about it. I will eat your ass right now
Starting point is 00:00:41 if you're not careful. What? You're going to eat my ass? What? I'm not going to let you eat my... Hold on a second. There's no way you could eat this ass. I bet I can.
Starting point is 00:00:59 I bet you won't. You can't handle all of this. Say I won't right now. Tell me I won't. I bet you you won't. What was that movie called? Train Wreck. Train Wreck.
Starting point is 00:01:14 I still haven't seen it. It's so good. See if you can pull up that clip of John talking to the girl on the sidewalk when he gives her that speech. Do you remember the speech I'm talking about? I don't train. He says, I'm going to make you my CrossFit queen or whatever. It's really weird. I'm going to make you my CrossFit queen.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Let's see what comes up on the old YouTube. Built women, dog. They're everywhere now. All the girls be flexing on IG it's good for them yeah man longevity big butts
Starting point is 00:01:50 I didn't say that why the fuck is it a different language come on Andrew please interpret special thing she just went right to the butt big butt I have a wife
Starting point is 00:02:10 it's so fucking stupid you know what the sad part is I was gonna ask you to marry me really I didn't think you liked me very much why are you making me feel bad about this? You can sleep with other girls. It's like every guy's dream.
Starting point is 00:02:29 It's not this guy's dream. Yeah, this guy's got a dream. And it's us. Making it. Getting married. We went out to the countryside, having a family. Three boys and two more boys. Enough for a basketball team. And I'll develop a CrossFit boys and two more boys and i'll develop a crossfit program
Starting point is 00:02:47 and patent it and i'll rule the crossfit world you by my side you mean my crossfit queen such a strange speech oh man two more boys he's a very good actor man peacemaker this he's he's dope yeah i don't know if he started recording for peacemaker yet but i'm i'm excited for that to come back out again because that was good season two i still gotta finish the first one he's good yeah man plays a great character we're trying all kinds of crazy today so i'm gonna do some slow grease oh you doing you doing five he's putting the five in the vial i don't know how many did you do i did two but i'm gonna do one more since you see though you how about do four we'll both do four do four okay i'll do four yeah here we go i like how your receptors man but like how much looks at him like yeah we'll do four take advantage of you later yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:03:49 what did you guys take we just took some uh mind bullet slow release slow release pills and then a little shot of uh some mind bullet potion some fast and slow this is reminiscent of that one day where we did two potions on air oh man which episode was that we got forever ago but your eyes super high you're like hey eyelids are all heavy yeah that was when you guys had the thc something's from i forgot the guy's name but you were super baked in Zima. Yeah, yeah. I was gone. That's not a good combo to get too many, you don't want too many things going on at one
Starting point is 00:04:31 time. Or do you? No, you don't. You don't. You really don't. So, you know, I went to go on a run this morning and I don't know, it's like 5.55 in the morning. It's pitch black outside, right? I get outside of my car and I open up my trunk and I normally, that's where I change my shoes.
Starting point is 00:04:53 So I'm just kind of sitting there and I'm like, oh, my stomach kind of bothered me. I just rip ass, just fart like really loud and really long. Like, you know, one of those ones that seemed like it went on for like 20 seconds. Some guy goes, hey, nice nice out i was like what it scared the shit out of me i had no idea anybody was awake i just thought plus i have my headphones on so i couldn't really i couldn't really hear it but it's like a random guy walking across the street walking his dog i thought i was in the clear man i thought this joke was going so i thought he was going somewhere else with it you thought i was going darker i thought you i thought he's gonna be like saying that you guess he did go darker yeah all right
Starting point is 00:05:36 that that so you ran with sam this morning i did he's amazing i thought that like you're gonna anyway i thought you maybe didn't see him or something. No, I could see him perfectly. He's a wonderful looking man. And he's fucking jacked. Agreed. But running takes away a lot of muscle. So his time being jacked is over.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Once he starts running a little bit more, all that muscle is going to disappear. What did you notice when you were running with him though? Because you guys ran six miles. So did you notice anything about the way he was running that was different from yeah running well i think he just has a history of running he's been running you know since he's in the military and stuff and i know he had a break from it with bodybuilding and stuff um but yeah he moves really well and he just has a good plus he also is a guy that's going to study stuff you know he's not someone that's just going to be like yeah i'm running now and just like go out and not learn about it and so i think he's hooked
Starting point is 00:06:29 up with some great coaches he mentioned a bunch of the coaches here on the show i think he's uh got set up with uh some of the coaches that nick bear has and uh so they like analyzed his gate and they went over everything and um he was just showing me a little bit of stuff but pretty common stuff but it's good to have reminders lean forward slightly now you can keep in mind this is on when you do a shorter run you do whatever you can to like mitigate pain and mitigate bad patterns that might look slightly different than what you may do when you're running faster. And so he was talking about like running as in like, you know, doing something more than just like a little jog. And he was just kind of showing me how to pull the elbows back. He's pretty mobile, so he's able to move his elbows and shoulder girdle really well.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And he's got good rotation and he's slightly leaned forward. And you can just kind of tell, you know, certain people, just the way they move, you can tell like someone can just take off. Yeah. You're like, oh, that guy can probably just fucking haul ass on out of here anytime that he wants. So you can kind of just tell he's a springy and I'm a little bit more of like a bounce, like a brrm, brrm, brrm.
Starting point is 00:07:39 It's like not as, not as quick, but he's got like a quick tempo where he just seems really light. Yeah. But he's not light. He's like 200 something pounds. Yeah. It's like 212 quick, but he's got like a quick tempo where he just seems really light. Yeah. But he's not light. He's like 200-something pounds. Yeah, he's like 212 right now, 212. He told me about this page. Might be a cool lady.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Run RX. She has like a really – I went through her page. I've seen some of it, yeah. Yeah, she has a lot of really cool running drills on there, basic stuff. So for all of you guys who are getting into running right now and you want to learn some intricate aspects of it, Run RX is a good page to follow. She seems to know a lot about it. Yeah, and as we were talking about it a little bit more, I was just saying,
Starting point is 00:08:09 all I'm trying to share with people sometimes is just that there's some different ways to run. There's some different things to introduce. And I think people should really just explore it. I think Ido Portel has said, why not have many different kinds of walks? I would say, why not have many different kinds of runs? Runs.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Sometimes when you're running, something will hurt or something will ache. And while it would probably be smart just to pack it up sometimes and go home, you don't want to. But if you develop other skill sets and learn how to run in different ways, maybe you can figure out a way
Starting point is 00:08:42 to still get your training in for the day. Same thing with lifting. Like there, maybe not with the heaviest load, you want to squat in different ways, but it's the same thing in the gym. You know, you can move around and you can lift certain things with a rounded back, with a rounded lower back. You can do all those things with enough, with adequate loads safely that will open up different movement capacities for yourself.
Starting point is 00:09:02 That's what we're noticing for ourselves. Your back's hurt. You have a powerlifting competition coming up and it's six weeks out. I mean, missing a workout shouldn't really hinder you much in the grand scheme of things. But if you still wanted to get a workout in, you could simply do a trap bar deadlift for the day or do all of your accessory work that would help the deadlift. It seems switching over to some deodorant over here something went south sometimes you just like it's like what is that it's me that was me it's hard it's sometimes hard to detect whether it's you that's annoying because you're like damn like someone should have probably said something but
Starting point is 00:09:42 they can't you can't say anything it's uh it feels too weird only the real homies like if you if you if if you feel like someone's your friend tell them when they smell i don't know why it's so personal too it's like you just you got it shouldn't really hurt your feelings shouldn't yeah you got sweaty so that you know you don't smell good yeah you didn't do anything wrong yeah i didn't smell you now yeah when i did in the past i have like i've thrown you some dude wipes it's because you're my homie man yeah you know i mean and even if you're not my homie if if i meet you or if we i say this for myself if i meet you and i have a stench tell me i ain't gonna do nothing to you i'll just i'll put something on just let a brother know like yo you stink thank you thank you for telling me now i'm gonna just go
Starting point is 00:10:25 home i'll shower it could be it could go the other direction too like i was on the ground in here uh yesterday in super training and somebody just like lays on my back and they're like oh you always smell so good it's fucking graham of course i'm like dude what i'm funny yeah what are you yeah he's funny what are you doing and what's on my leg and that's a true story guys to say no joke no no it's real yeah i was i i heard um there were very clearly sandals flopping up and down the hallway and i was just like i thought maybe you had left something back here or got something for sam uh okanola before he left or something and then i hear it coming back again i'm like dude what is that and it was graham running inside the
Starting point is 00:11:16 building and i was like just getting some some laps in or what's going on he's like what the fuck nobody told me it gets this cold in sacramento i'm freezing and i'm like ah that's right he only checked out the spot when it was in the summer oh bummer that's a bait and switch that's how we recruited him yeah but guys we uh we got to talk about this uh do you guys find it hard to stay lean or to stay in shape it is do you feel like you're suffering do you feel like it's a difficult life you feel unhappy um I'm not that unhappy. You know, when I get home, my wife locks me in the closet. She makes sure I don't have any food. And, you know, I ran this morning. I lifted when I got here and I'm going to lift when I leave.
Starting point is 00:11:57 But I got a chance to do an earlier podcast and then we're doing this podcast and we might do another one with Jason Kalipa and then I'll go home and I'll just go into that closet and that'll be it for today and then tomorrow, let me back out, make sure I don't eat again and then I'll be off on a run,
Starting point is 00:12:13 just kind of repeat. I feel really happy. I feel like it's a really awesome thing when, you know, have you ever had like ice cubes and protein? Oh, great. It's like the greatest thing when you can blend some ice cubes
Starting point is 00:12:25 with two scoops of protein. I had to cut back on the protein and I moved to salt for a little bit. Nice. That's a good move. I didn't want too many calories,
Starting point is 00:12:31 you know. It's a treat. Trying to stay in shape. Yeah. And sometimes, like, I just brought back the diet soda.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Zero calorie diet soda. I'll only have one can a day because, you know, if you go too much with that, you could gain some fat. That's like heaven. And maybe, maybe once in a while, some egg whites. Egg whites are the best.
Starting point is 00:12:49 They're fucking bomb. Egg whites taste so good. And then when you add a little bit of salt to the egg whites, it's just like that. Or some fat-free cheese. There you go. Finally, somebody had to say it. Dude, that seems totally, I mean, to us, that seems totally fine, right? Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:05 That's healthy. Yeah. What about like the one meal a day thing, but like you go to eat at like 23 hours or so? And you're like, oh, I don't even have to eat right now because it's not a full day. Yeah. So you can go another 24 hours. That's what I've been doing for the past two months. Your body gets used to it.
Starting point is 00:13:19 And after three days, you start to produce more protein. Exactly. So yeah, it works out great. It's also why we drink electrolytes because all we need some days is an electrolyte supplement it gives you a little zing of lime um and you're hydrated so why even need to eat you know there are some people out there that have learned to sustain themselves off of air it's not it's not for everybody i think yeah type that out i think some people have done that just through breathing techniques yeah yeah yeah but there's nothing unhealthy or unhappy about this i'm totally enjoying life aren't I think, yeah, type that down. I think some people have done that. Just through breathing techniques? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:45 But there's nothing unhealthy or unhappy about this. I'm totally enjoying life. Aren't you? This is great. I'm going to sustain this forever. Yeah. I think. All right.
Starting point is 00:13:55 So I was watching the Flagrant podcast, and they have this Patreon, right? And their Patreon exclusive content, we got permission to use some of this. But they were talking about how they were talking about like Zac Efron and a few people. And I'm going to just let you play it. By the way, go check out their podcast if you haven't already. There are a lot of people in our audience that do
Starting point is 00:14:16 watch their pod, but it's hilarious. But I thought this was very interesting. Sam Efron gets shredded. Yeah, he got pretty shredded. He's playing that wrestler in this new movie coming up. Is this a short one? There we go. He got shredded in that beach movie.
Starting point is 00:14:30 I just want to fuck it up. I got to do this. Baywatch. He got shredded for Baywatch. Is that what it was? Yeah. It was Baywatch. Super shreddy.
Starting point is 00:14:37 All right, let's see what we got. Socks. Yeah. Dude. People who are shredded are idiots they're unhappy people you're missing out on life life is sugar
Starting point is 00:14:51 life is bread life is not looking good this is the fat industrial complex no fuck that dude no it's the fun industrial complex yes it is the fat industrial complex. No, fuck that, dude. This is the fat industrial complex. No, it's the fun industrial complex. Exactly. Uh-uh.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yes, it is, the fun industrial complex. Honestly, a life without sugar, meaningless. You could do... How could you say that, man? Look at Zac Efron. He looks super happy right now. The Crimson Chin, he looks amazing. How could you say that?
Starting point is 00:15:18 Yeah. He looks like the Lego movie version of him. His face is fucking ruined, bro. He looks like Drago, dude. He got his face fucked up, but at the same time still looks super handsome. Man, I don't know, bro. I know what it was like before. That's years of being unhappy, bro.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Yeah, nah. It's not worth it, bro. It looks like his voice is deep. All right, pause this shit. Can I say one thing about... I think he's trying. It looks like his voice is deep can i say one thing about he's trying it looks like his voice is it's it's weird with the delay but hey yeah yeah dog yeah he did his face did change it seems like he got some type of surgery done or some shit i don't i mean i don't know last time i saw him in a i don't know the last
Starting point is 00:16:06 time i saw him in a big movie it's been a while like last time i saw him do anything i think was baywatch i don't remember seeing him in much else and that was a long time ago yeah so his face might have changed but yeah some testosterone can change a lot of stuff might have just grown up like he's also thicker and more jacked um in the movie that he's in coming up rather than the way he looked on Baywatch. He was insanely lean. So your face is going to look different from that too. This is very different. But yeah, there's a second clip that we're going to play some.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Are we done with this clip though? Yeah, we're done with this clip for the most part. The second one's going to be coming up. Yeah, he's talking about being miserable without bread and without sugar. But a lot of people do make it seem like, especially like Zac Efron and movie stars that get ready for roles. The pop culture look at being healthy and lean and shredded. They do make it seem like, oh, I had to diet so hard. I had to work out three times a day.
Starting point is 00:17:04 I had to eat all the chicken breast and rice. They do make it seem like, oh, I had to diet so hard. I had to work out three times a day. I had to eat all the chicken breast and rice. They do make it seem like it sucks to get in shape because that's the pulp culture version of things. But for us, it's not very difficult to be in shape and eat food that you enjoy and be happy. Yeah, it's part of our lifestyle. I think for them, it's like a talking piece when they go on some of these shows and they go around, they do their press junket, their press kit,
Starting point is 00:17:30 and they go to these different shows and they have to talk about how hard it was to get the 6% body fat. And maybe, and maybe it was like getting the 6% body fat is like a monument, can take a monumental effort. But sustaining body fat percentages that are healthy, that are lean, is not necessarily a life of suffering. It all depends on your interpretation of it
Starting point is 00:17:54 and what if your interpretation of, what if what makes you happy and what you find joy in is to be in shape? I mean, if that makes you joyful, then sounds like you'll probably be pretty happy. But again, also just having specific habits in your life that makes that thing second nature. Like we take walks, we move some.
Starting point is 00:18:15 We walk together. We walk together, hold hands and sometimes hold dicks. But we like to like the things we do fall in line with us staying healthy and then when it comes to food i had fire wings last night you know what i mean the truth always comes out here on the show i had fire wings last night i had a cool 30 piece right i had steak before that but i also went to jujitsu before that i'm feeling good i don't have fire wings every night but i eat well hold on just real quick one just one question yeah um did you have it door dashed yeah okay that makes it a little bit worse that's just makes me coming home from jujitsu coming home from jujitsu i'm not gonna go to fire wings and wait for my food i'm gonna door dash it
Starting point is 00:19:00 so that it's in front of my door by the time I get home. What the fuck? Man, what do you think I'll do? You're so lazy. Right? When you were worked out all day, yeah, you're lazy. So I think like on a more serious note, like if you think about like when you would eat bread, when you would eat sugar, like when would be these like circumstances? And I think that people are thinking you are somehow enjoying things more. But you could have like different versions of that. Like maybe for you, maybe having wings here and there, maybe it's not that big of a deal because you normally eat healthy.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Yeah. But healthy for us too is different. Remember like healthy for us isn't brown rice, chicken, and broccoli. And wings are not even necessarily that bad. They're just like a little borderline in terms of maybe they could put somebody over their caloric limit. But for you, for that particular day and or for that particular week, you're still not over any limit, right? Not even close because all I had on that day was steak. So I had some wings and you,
Starting point is 00:20:06 you, you do the same stuff. It's like some days we fast, like I haven't eaten today, but because we have control over our hunger, we're not feeling angry or groggy or whatever. We're going to go eat. I'm going to go eat later. I'm going to be perfectly okay. I'll probably have some steaks and rice. Um, I have some fire wings leftovers from yesterday, so I'm going to have more of that. And I make wings sometimes too. So it's like there's nothing that I feel that I am not allowing myself to have to look this way, but it's because of the habits we have set. I would also say that circumstances can be quite different for people that haven't lost weight yet or haven't gotten themselves in shape yet. for people that haven't lost weight yet or haven't gotten themselves in shape yet. They may need to carry out a strong discipline
Starting point is 00:20:47 for many days in a row for multiple reasons, not necessarily just for the reasons of health and not necessarily just for the reasons of losing weight, but for the reasons of building a habit and having that habit get ingrained into the system because it takes a long time. You know, if you do jujitsu and you do it like one week and then you miss two weeks and you do it one week and then you miss,
Starting point is 00:21:09 you're probably just as well as to have never gone before because you're not really going to learn very well that way. It's too big of a gap. It needs to get like ingrained in there somewhere. You need to learn like when are you going to utilize these tools? And I think the same thing can apply to your diet. When are you going to utilize these tools? And I think the same thing can apply to your diet. When are you going to utilize these tools and strategies? If it's always really long time in between diets and you haven't really amounted any success yet, you're probably thinking, I always suck at this.
Starting point is 00:21:36 I always fail at this. And even though I'm doing this, I'm going to not eat any carbs. I'm going to do some cardio and I'm going to restrict my calories and I'm going to lose 20 pounds carbs. I'm going to do some cardio and I'm going to restrict my calories and I'm going to lose, you know, 20 pounds before the end of the year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And you get all fired up and excited and you're three days in and you're exhausted. You're tired. You don't want to do the diet anymore. And you're like, I knew I was going to fail at this. I knew I was going to suck it. And you really didn't develop the skills. There's some like little skills in there. Like you can actually, and it's just sounds so dumb to say it sometimes,
Starting point is 00:22:08 but you can actually find ways to eat more if you choose different foods. And people are like, eating more, this is bullshit. Like it's not possible. But if you replace some of the, and again, it's going to sound like crazy talk, but if you replace some of the foods with leaner meats, vegetables, maybe some fruit, maybe some things that are just a little less offensive, things that have less ingredients in them, multiple ingredient foods, once you start getting into three, four, five ingredients, you get into foods that are just very, very easy to overeat and overconsume. Extremely easy to overeat and over consume. But also a factor to that, I think one thing that's been really beneficial is like you don't fast all the time now. And even, even something like a protein shake, even though that's not fasting,
Starting point is 00:22:54 I'll have that earlier in the day. You know, sometimes, sometimes I'll eat through the day, but sometimes I'll have a protein shake and I'll have a big meal later. But the thing is, Sometimes I'll have a protein shake and I'll have a big meal later. But the thing is, is we've gotten to a point where we're not having to eat all the time. Some people are used to having a breakfast, a snack, a lunch, another meal, and then a dinner. And when they miss certain meals, they don't feel good. They feel unhappy sometimes. That used to be me when I wouldn't have a meal earlier in the day.
Starting point is 00:23:24 It would affect my mood. I wouldn't have a meal earlier in the day. It would affect my mood. I didn't feel as happy. But you don't have to fast, but by getting your body and getting yourself used to not eating and not feeling like an emotional response to not eating at that certain point, now we can have a big meal later in the day, what we want, still protein rich with some carbohydrates, but the total calorie intake of that meal is not going to be anything that has us crazy in a surplus. It's sometimes hard to communicate because again, some of the stuff that we say out loud, like I can even hear myself and it sounds cringy and stupid, but like some of the things
Starting point is 00:24:02 that we've switched to, they're just different. It's going to sound like anorexic, you know, like instead of, you know, I'm not making fun of that at all, but I was going to sound like I got a problem going on here. You know, on my way home, when I'm thinking about like, you know, I don't know what I'm going to eat or something, I might choose something that is a discipline for me that still keeps me on my path that maybe resets my brain or sets me off in a different direction than me making a poor choice of food. Sometimes that's as simple as having prepared food or I was teaching this to my son Jake the other day because he's getting more into lifting and stuff. And I was like, just pull something out of the freezer, put it on the counter the counter and then you let it defrost and then the next day it's ready and you can cook it up so sometimes it's as easy as that sometimes it's harder sometimes i'm like
Starting point is 00:24:53 really my brain's really occupied with other shit and i'm like okay when i get home i'm gonna i'm gonna take a shower and just like reconsider what i'm thinking in my head right now of like buying ben and jerry's or buying junk food or i'm going to do a cold plunge and then take a shower and relax and see if it just goes away. And a lot of times it will go away. The craving will go away. And can I afford to eat whatever I want? Yes, I can definitely afford to eat whatever I want, but I think it would be, it wouldn't be in my best interest and it would be a disservice to myself and to what I worked so hard for for me to eat whatever I want whenever I want. You also – like all of us here, you guys still have a – what is your sinful treat? What do you have every now and then?
Starting point is 00:25:38 Like you'll sometimes have a Ben and Jerry's, right, or whatever. Like what is that thing? Do you have a thing or at this point does it even matter that much i gotta just you broke me down enough i gotta disagree with andrew schultz i'm my life is miserable now that fucking thing about it i just ran it through my fucking head a little bit more and i'm like you know what that motherfucker's right all i want is some bread and some sugar no i still eat some stuff actually uh like ben greenfield recently he was like hey man you know with all the running you're doing you should try some sourdough bread i'm like heard
Starting point is 00:26:10 got in my car and went right to the store and got some sourdough bread say less yeah right um but again like we've gotten used to these foods. Like I love to eat steak. I love to eat eggs. And so when I'm thinking about steak is good. Yeah. When we talk about steak and we talk about these different things, I think maybe because we eat them so much, we don't go as like crazy thinking about them. Like as soon as you mentioned ice cream, everybody gets happy. As soon as you mentioned cereal, you're like, what kind? Like everyone gets all excited. Ben and Jerry's, what flavor? Like, I don't know more. and if you just say yeah i'm gonna go eat some steak you know people kind of get excited but they're like is it a ribeye or is it like it's just not the same level like there's no uh there's no steak truck with music exactly
Starting point is 00:26:58 rolling down the street like there is an ice cream truck right yeah we need that steak truck so what like what i want that'd be cool uh what i wanted to point out though is like we still all do have that little you know that little pixie that shows up and it's like hey eat the ice cream or eat the cookies or like go through the drive-thru or whatever eat that pussy eat that imagine dave chapelle on your shoulder that's where i got it bro doing a little dance he's doing he's like get the chicken but so for okay so what I'm getting catfish
Starting point is 00:27:34 if y'all don't know the skit just go go type in Dave Chappelle pixie or whatever on YouTube that scene is so good Dave Chappelle but what I'm trying to get at is like we do still have the struggles but so when people hear you guys saying like oh i fast and like i i just i'm excited for a steak people are like well that's not me like i'm sorry but before you guys did have these habits of like okay i'm hungry i don't have to respond right now before you had all that shit like what were
Starting point is 00:28:06 some of the foods that you did lean into because if somebody doesn't quite have that right now right like what kind of like uh tools can you give them to not feel like they fucking like oh i'm gonna i gotta go on that like salad diet i'm gonna have to juice cleanse and all that other bullshit i think this is really good timing you know because you got thanksgiving coming up years ago i started operation Get Less Fatterist, which was kind of a handful of diets leading into the holidays where people tend to gain some weight. But I just think just be a little thoughtful.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Like, just be a little thoughtful. I mean, think about, like, what would the difference be, not so much for tomorrow, not so much for the next day, and not so much for next month, but what's the difference going to be in three years? In three years, what's the difference going to be if you just cut back on some of your – like can we just find something more reasonable? Like I was just mentioning this on a previous podcast. Like how mad are you really going to get somebody for something? You go to a hotel and it turns out the hotel's booked, but you tried to book it online, but they're sold out. Or that happens sometimes with plane
Starting point is 00:29:12 tickets or your flight gets canceled. I mean, what are you going to, you're going to grab a hold of the person that's behind the counter and like beat the shit out of them. And then like, where does it stop? Then you beat up the next person that's next to them or something like, I don't know, like how mad or how angry or frustrated you know are you really gonna get and just can you be a more reasonable or more rational person when it comes to your food could you be honest with yourself do you have to have two or three sandwiches every day or however many sodas you're drinking or do you need that giant ass burrito every day that makes you tired, makes you have to take a shit? You know, just like kind of throws you off course. The rest of the day
Starting point is 00:29:51 is kind of slow because you ate so much in the middle of the day. Like, can you start to make reasonable changes? And then you also don't want to be left with not eating. You don't want to be left with reducing the amount of food you're eating by some drastic amount. So what's available? What can you eat? Go to a 7-Eleven, go to a grocery store. Look at the choices that you have. You actually have a lot of good choices. What are the choices at the grocery store or at the 7-Eleven or at the local convenience store that are pretty healthy. Like you'll find shit in there that's not that, maybe it's not the most ideal thing,
Starting point is 00:30:30 but you'll find a lot of stuff in there that's not that bad that still tastes pretty good. Like I've never met anyone who's like, I can't, apples are fucking disgusting or bananas fucking gross or blue. Like it's really rare that somebody is like really freaking out that fruit is like disgusting. So you can find a fruit that you can eat. Can you do that once a day? Can you eat some meat a couple times a day? You know, get some protein in some ways. So I think you can figure out ways to be more reasonable if you can figure that out. What's it going to look like two or three years down the road if you choose to be more reasonable today?
Starting point is 00:31:04 Pet Project Family, we talk about meat all the time on the podcast because protein is essential for your health. That's why I partnered with Piedmontese. And if you head to their website, they have so much different types of beef. They have beef sticks, beef jerky, tons of different cuts of meat. You should go check them out. Andrew, how can they learn more?
Starting point is 00:31:19 You guys got to head over to piedmontese.com. That's P-I-E-D-M-O-N-T-E-S-E.com. And at checkout, enter promo code POWER to save 25% off your entire order. And if your order is over $150 or more, you get free two-day shipping. Links to them down in the description as well as the podcast show notes.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Also, Andrew, you can cue up that second clip, but to add on to that, one thing that you can do right now, two things, is we've talked about this before, but you probably have certain foods that you know you eat too much of. These foods are probably in your house. Don't keep those foods there. Remember, if there are certain things that you know you eat too much of, that's a struggle for you to be able to maintain a healthy diet. You found out recently that juice, you got to be careful with
Starting point is 00:32:05 juice. I knew that shit. I'm about to get into that, but I knew I had to be careful with juice. That's why I never kept it in the house before, but I don't keep shit that I know I'm going to eat excessive amounts of it. You know, I'm not going to keep a bunch of chocolate or a bunch of these types of things. I know if I have one, I'm going to have 10 juice. We don't drink a lot of liquid calories, right? I mean, we'll have wine here and there, whatever, right? But the reason why we don't drink liquid calories is number one, they add up really quickly. And I'm not an adult when it comes to juice, right? Two weeks ago, I decided to like, just let's see what happens if I just add a little bit of juice back into my thing, right? So I got
Starting point is 00:32:41 some Simply Lemonade. The first day I had like a a glass the second day i had two glasses the next day i door dashed a few more bottles and then it just turned to me drinking like almost a full thing of juice each day just doing next stands on the fucking juice dog dog it's been years since i almost since i've been close to 260 pounds it's been years right i never touched anything above like 252 for the past five years and a few days ago i was 258 i was like this is why i don't get juice so i don't put juice in the house because i'm not adult enough to just be like hey and sema here's a glass good done no it doesn't end there i did the same thing with milk recently like just put 10 pounds right on me you're so white just tons of milk like i've been buying uh raw milk and even some raw heavy cream
Starting point is 00:33:36 and i'm just drinking the shit out of it i'm like and so that's like whole milk then right oh yeah yeah i love milk yeah yeah i mean it it's whole milk then right oh yeah yeah i love milk yeah yeah i mean it's i mean i can sit here and make all these excuses but like i i fucked up i bought like a gallon thing of raw milk because i've never seen one of those before it's usually a half gallon absolutely so i saw a gallon one i'm like i'm gonna buy that but i bought some previously so i'm just like guzzling it down like just straight milk yeah day after day uh i'm mixing it in protein shakes and stuff too but i'm also just like drinking it and yeah you know i step on the scale and i'm like 235 i'm like i was like 217 like it's not that long ago like what
Starting point is 00:34:17 the fuck is going on here oh my god it's so easy for us to get like whoa you guys are so fat but i know so like again kind of going back to what i was like pointing to earlier like you both of you obviously have been in this for years but yet how fucking delicious these things are you can still be like ah it's okay and like you can kind of over like ignore the fucking other pixie that's like, hey, bro, what are you doing over here? So then without juice and without fucking whole milk, do you feel like you're going to be without if you don't drink those? No, I don't. I don't have FOMO when it comes to stuff. I mean, I think I used to have maybe a little bit of that when it came to drinking.
Starting point is 00:35:03 It's pretty common for other members of my family to drink when we get together for, it actually happens every time when we get together, everyone has some drinks. Um, and I think I used to be like, Oh, I wish I just would kind of do that because then it's just easier to be a
Starting point is 00:35:20 little bit more social. Like here I am, you know, fucking stretching on the floor, doing something, doing something again. That's like just ridiculous. I'm always trying to like, no, you do sound crazy. Yeah. Figuring out a way to like, try to get better at something or like, I'll put a, you know, a headphone in or something and listen to something. Cause like, I'm not
Starting point is 00:35:37 really part of the conversation cause everyone's drunk. So I'm just like listening to something else. So I've had some, I've had some like FOMO before, but the way that I've dealt with it was I learned over a period of time that if you can just kind of, if you're trying to make new choices and you're trying to create a different life for yourself, it will be worth it. It's hard to kind of recognize that, but you can't, you can't change yourself unless you change your habits. So you have to change those habits. Maybe you can't, like this is my family, so I can't just boot everybody to the side.
Starting point is 00:36:10 But if you have that person that wants to go out and drink and do some of these things, then you might need to cut some of that out, cut back on that. Another option is just to have a couple drinks. Like just, it's not good if you're training hard and your diet is pretty good most of the time if you have just like an 80 20 going on 80 of the time you're good 20 of the time you're fucking around i don't see any problem with that you know uh casey uh short who's uh going to be on our podcast soon. He's in our warehouse.
Starting point is 00:36:46 He does the logistics here at Slingshot. He was like, I listen to your guys' show and I'm thinking these guys are bullshit sometimes because you can just have a beer. He's like, you got to do it the right way. He chooses, I think, a light beer. You just have to make some other decision or choice. There's a price to pay
Starting point is 00:37:01 no matter what it is that you like, no matter what your vice is. And you'll have to be more reasonable. You have to just say, I need to probably, you know, Thanksgiving's coming up. I should start to walk a little bit more rather than 3000 steps a day. I should get in like 8,000 steps a day. And by the time that time comes around, I can enjoy myself and eat whatever I want on that day. I don't have to worry about it. Thank you for saving that question. Cause after I asked it, I was like,
Starting point is 00:37:25 Oh fuck. I just asked like, Oh, are you going to feel like you're without milk? You know, like I think that's so silly. But so then that leads me to another thing I wanted to point out is like, you've said this before in SEMA.
Starting point is 00:37:35 It's like, you know, we're on level like 99. Right. So like if you think like, Oh really? Like milk, like that's,
Starting point is 00:37:41 that's your fucking treat. Like what is wrong with you? You know what I mean? But it's like, this is after like fucking decades of like paying attention to this sort of thing but do you feel like you're gonna be without if you don't have fucking juice dog you know the the juice thing was funny because uh one of my really good friends micah we've we've had this conversation before but he's a juice fiend he's the he's the kind of guy who's like man i'll do all this diet should be you ain't gonna let me you're not gonna see me not drink my juice like he loves juice his fridge he has a bunch of different juices he has fizzy juices he has
Starting point is 00:38:13 all the juices right but he's got all the new ones before they come out he's got all the new juice like he's just like he's a juice fiend and i was was thinking about this. I'm like, he's really connected to juice, right? Like I like juice and I had it for a week, but like not buying juice doesn't hurt my soul. It's great. It tastes good. It's sugary goodness. Yeah. But it's not something that I feel like I'm missing out on it because like I'm just going to go back and drink some diet sodas or I'll figure something else out that gives me that taste. But the other thing I was going to mention on the alcohol bit, I talked about it a little
Starting point is 00:38:50 bit. I won't go too long about this, but every now and then I'll have wine or whatever. I'm out with people, right? And people are drinking. I'll get a drink or two. But I stopped really, I still have alcohol at home too, but I haven't touched it just because i realized that i wasn't drinking because i enjoyed drinking i was drinking with with people it's a social thing and i'm cool with that but when i had drinks at home there was a time was like i'm gonna get some good wines right that's when i was more so singles because ladies would come over and i was that was just like oh i have some wine here you go um that sounded devious yeah that sounded devious it was more so of a it was more so of a oh yeah i have good wine like yeah relax but that wasn't that wasn't something i enjoyed it was more so something
Starting point is 00:39:38 like adults drink wine i think you enjoyed it quite a bit though. Well, I mean, I enjoyed what wine may lead to, but it's not like I truly enjoyed like learning about different wines or learning about different types of whiskey. It wasn't something that I found any type of personal enjoyment from. Try some of this. It helps loosen up the butthole. Stop it. Boy, chill.
Starting point is 00:39:59 You know, I knew someone was going to go down that rabbit hole. Guys, everyone, everything was consensual. And everything was consensual. Everything was safe. Everything was nice. He got under the influence. But no, listen, listen. I just realized that the alcohol wasn't for me.
Starting point is 00:40:18 It wasn't because I was truly interested in wine or truly interested in different types of whiskey. It was more so just because I thought this was something that was like cool to learn about. So after being like, Oh, there's no reason to really drink. It doesn't bring me any type of enjoyment. Hangovers fucking suck. I just don't drink at home.
Starting point is 00:40:37 And it's not like a rule. It's not like, you know, it's not like I feel FOMO or disconnected. Cause again, if I go out with people, I have no problem drinking. I don't get wasted though. But you know, I think it's good to assess why is it that I choose to
Starting point is 00:40:50 drink all the time, right? A great way to not cheat on your diet is to learn to incorporate a lot of different things in your diet so that it's impossible to cheat like you you just literally can't cheat so for me i still eat chocolate um i eat a bunch of stuff that i don't even really think about that much because it's not like i'm consuming like crazy amounts of it yeah but for example i don't really i like dark chocolate but i don't like love it i'd rather get like peanut butter cups and shit like that i'd rather get the cheap candy and just live off of that and eat Snickers bars and all that kind of stuff. I dig all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Dark chocolate, it's like, I don't know, I eat a couple bites of it and I'm good. So last night I ate a Kai's bar. Those are the protein honey bars or whatever. I'm eating that with some dark chocolate while I'm watching some TV. And the combination is really good because they're mixed with uh they're mixed with peanut butter and i'll do shit like that which is uh he's eating one of those um he's eating our set i'll put one up there dog we definitely he's eating that out he's eating one of our uh pretty
Starting point is 00:42:00 sure one of our sticky buns that one's's worth $7,000 now because yeah, we're all out of them. That's it, yeah. Now these legendary sweet rolls. Sweet rolls. That's what they're called. Yeah. They're really fucking good. Those are incredible.
Starting point is 00:42:13 But this is the thing. Something like this is like a really good, it tastes really fucking good. The macros are good. It has a good amount of protein, but it's not useless. A Reese's is kind of useless. It's just sugar amount of protein but it's not useless a reese's is kind of useless it's just sugar andrew would say it's straight up sugar it's not functional it's it's
Starting point is 00:42:31 not functional this right here this tastes fucking good and it's not going to lead me down a rabbit hole of binging on a bunch of food that isn't good for me i think protein leveraging as we talk about all the time i know a bunch of bros we're talking about protein all the time, but protein leveraging is something that's real. It really works. It can help reduce the overall amount of food that you're eating and that you're thinking about by simply eating more protein. So it's a great tool is to just, if you're going to go out to eat, this is where most people really struggle is when they go out to eat, eat before you go out to eat. Maybe at first that won't work well because maybe you'll overconsume calories,
Starting point is 00:43:12 but over time you'll figure it out. Over time you'll have some steak at home, and then when you go out to eat, you'll make a better entree choice. Maybe you don't eat the bread that's put there. You have to just kind of like weigh stuff out, and you've got to think, is this going to increase my experience? Is this going to help the experience that I'm having? And if it does, then fucking go for it.
Starting point is 00:43:43 When I traveled, I think like a year ago with my wife, as we were traveling around, it's like I just ate every day. I just ate whatever. And I went on some walks. I don't think I was really running at the time but both of us were like hey let's just make a pact that we're gonna do 20,000 steps every day I think I did some fucking push-ups here and there I didn't lift I was gone for two like about two weeks just eating eating whatever yeah I gained a little bit of weight but it was like three pounds or something or five pounds. It wasn't anything that I couldn't work off in two or three days. So you can kind of just pick. You pick your battles.
Starting point is 00:44:11 You pick and choose. But what you don't want to have happen is to gain weight every single year and not do anything about it. That's when you get into really unhealthy, uncompromising positions. I've mentioned this on the show before. That's when you get into really unhealthy, uncompromising positions. I've mentioned this on the show before. You end up becoming that uncle or that person in your family where you're like, man, he's starting to get old. He's starting to get out of shape.
Starting point is 00:44:34 You end up kind of turning into that person. You're like, I can't believe. Fuck, man. Damn it. I thought I only gained like 20 pounds after high school. But you gained 20 pounds. Then you gained 5. Then you gained 10. Then you gained 15.
Starting point is 00:44:44 And over time, it's now you're 60 pounds 70 pounds overweight so what you got on this one in SEMA just hit play bread and sugar combo Flynn that goes into that I just don't think it's worth it how much discipline is that
Starting point is 00:45:01 that's just I've been there at one point in my life. David Goggins is a miserable motherfucker. Yeah, David Goggins is not happy. That's why he's yelling at us all the time. Yeah, like all you're doing is running and bandaging your toes. Liver King's happy. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:45:15 I've been there at one point in my life, and I was incredibly unhappy. That's it. But I love the intention that I was getting from women. Fair enough. Yes. Fair enough. But I like... Hey, hey.
Starting point is 00:45:24 You can eat anything. Stay away from me, host. I know, I know. You can eat anything. All I'm trying to say is there is a body type... I Fair enough. You couldn't eat anything. Stay away from me, Hodge. I know. You couldn't eat anything. All I'm trying to say is there is a body type. I'm telling you, you couldn't eat anything. You couldn't eat anything. What?
Starting point is 00:45:31 Alex said that that was him. I think that he was there. I genuinely think that he was there. You see the picture when I got that in my favorites. I got to remind myself. I got to remind myself how good my potential, what I could have been. Get it.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Alex's Facebook profile picture? That motherfucker was a joint, dude. Send it to Miles. Show the top of the phone with that big old cricket you got on the side of your... You got that cicada. Look at that motherfucker, dog. I mean, that's nice. I don't think that's that. So he used to look like that.
Starting point is 00:45:59 I'm going to be honest. That's that. He looks great. I might be hating. It is identical. I wonder that. He looks great. What are you talking about? I might be hating. I might be hating. It is identical. Let me see. Let me see.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I wonder how different he looks now. He's flexing, trying to make a face like it's not about the – but it's about the body. You've always been you. Thank you. Always been you. Isn't that nice to know that this is not a new thing? If you fast forward a little bit, pretty much al talks about how like when he was that lean he had to like do it like he was doing a juice diet right he was like really crash dieting and like to maintain that he couldn't eat what he wanted to eat yeah i think a lot of people have
Starting point is 00:46:39 misconceptions and maybe not such great strategies like it worked he got in shape but it wasn't something that maybe he felt was sustainable for him. And that's where a lot of people fall. Like a lot of people do crash diets. They'll do juice diets. Do I have crumbs on my mouth? I don't want to be talking.
Starting point is 00:46:54 I think you did. All right, thank you. A lot of people to get to their lean physique, they'll do crash diets. They'll track their calories. They'll eat foods that they don't enjoy eating. And you can't expect to, number one, lose that weight and keep it off eating things that you hate eating all the time. And that's like – I want to drill in.
Starting point is 00:47:19 We enjoy the food we're eating. The food we make is really fucking good. We enjoy it. We don't feel like we're losing out on anything. And that's why there are some people who diet and then they'll gain a bunch of weight back, but we've been in shape for years now and haven't fallen off because we have the habits to stay consistent. I think the word is like delicacy, right? Like in some countries, they'll say that they'll be like, oh, that's interesting that they hate that in the United States. It's a delicacy in other countries.
Starting point is 00:47:46 And you're like, really? Like, that sounds really weird. We can adapt. We can learn to appreciate and to like certain things. And maybe you don't love them the same way. And maybe you love them for different reasons. Like, for example, steak. I think we all hold steak like steak's our king right like
Starting point is 00:48:06 we hold it in high regard yeah yeah like that's that's our yeah that's that's our guy right and then everything else kind of trickles down trickles down from that but we don't love steak for the same reason that we love a peanut butter cup or snickers bar or some of those things you love them for for different reasons the the steak you can say like helps us to go along with a lot of the things that we're trying to do a lot of the accomplishments that we're trying to get from the fat we get some of the energy and the protein just helps keep muscle mass or helps build new tissue but in the case of some of the candy that you might eat or ice cream or pizza, things that are off menu, you can actually have those things serve you as well because it can keep you on your path for a long time.
Starting point is 00:48:53 You can say, look, you know, I'm, I don't know, if someone was to follow you around and check all your shit all the time, all your food, and they were like, it turns out you're like a 90-10. You're 90% on your diet 10 off your diet but there wouldn't even really be an off necessarily because that 10 is just as important as the 90 yes it's important that you get that in there once in a while rather than keep pushing off those cravings all the time and potentially maybe being miserable. But there's also people that might not find that much. I have had friends that they're like, oh man, it's like three o'clock and I haven't even, like they didn't even think about eating. Like that's a little different than like intermittent fasting or intentionally trying to intermittent fast. I've never been that kind of person who just all of a sudden is like, wait a second. I don't think I ate anything today.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Like I'm, I always think about food. I think I like food so much that the second that I'm done with my dinner or second, I'm done with like my fruit bowl or whatever at night. I'm like, what am I going to, am I going to eat tomorrow?
Starting point is 00:49:58 And if I'm going to eat, like, what's it going to be? Am I going to have eggs? Am I going to have six eggs, eight eggs, 10 eggs, eggs and cheese, eggs and steak, steak leftover. And then i'm like sitting there i'm like i should put
Starting point is 00:50:09 something out to defrost so when i come home from the gym tomorrow i got some like i'm just always thinking about food yeah and not only that i'm thinking of food like a couple days ahead of time okay i'm not that fat you are fat yeah i'm like planning it out i know i'm going to sushi tonight i'm all pumped up i'm going to my booty that's the second time i heard about it with the wife and kids i'm all fired up it's great i love sushi oh yeah sushi's the best but but dude no like that's the thing i have two ribeyes waiting in the fridge for me when i get home and i still have those leftover wings and i still have some uh i have some fish that fish that's, uh, defrosted. Not it's, it's got in the trunk.
Starting point is 00:50:46 It's not in the trunk. It's the frost. That's also waiting for me. So like we eat good, we eat really good, but we also all have habits. Andrew, you do jujitsu and you lift Mark.
Starting point is 00:50:58 You, and you also run Mark, you run, you lift, you're doing a bunch of stuff every single day. I run, I do jujitsu. I lift. We're standing a bunch of stuff every single day. I do jiu-jitsu. I lift.
Starting point is 00:51:05 We're standing almost all the time. We have habits that allow us, like if we wanted to eat a candy bar, if you wanted to eat ice cream, it's not a big fucking deal because our bodies just move. It's energy for us. 100%. And I think this is a challenge out to Andrew Schultz. Buddy, I'll help you get shredded. It won't be that hard. You already look like you're in great shape.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Now, they went back and forth about that on this podcast. It was kind of funny. He already looks lean. He does look lean. He does look lean. I can help him get some abs. Six, eight weeks? Give me a chance, buddy.
Starting point is 00:51:40 I'll help you. And you won't be miserable. Yeah. Al will get there faster, though. Oh, are they having a battle they're not but i mean if al wanted to get shredded well especially if he did it already oh yeah he can get shredded yeah but andrew shoals maybe he like does he have athletic background yeah he actually he's a baller he played basketball a lot so he he could he looks
Starting point is 00:52:00 flexible as fuck he's always sitting there with his legs all crazy and shit. All shit up here and shit. It's wild. No, man. But yeah, no, they're actually pretty interesting. Andrew, he's been in better shape, I think. He plays basketball. But Akash, apparently when he was younger, he used to be really heavy. Yeah, but he got in really good shape.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Mark is a soccer player. And Al, Al did a lot of shit. And he's been shredded. Got a little bit more of this clip. But yeah, let's play the rest of it. See what's there. That's an old take, but I hear you.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Oh, this is on my Brad Pitt. Pull it up. This is Brad Pitt Fight Club. But that's what I... Maybe it's older. I have a different idea. I grew up watching surfers. Fucking Angelina Jolie would be miserable.
Starting point is 00:52:52 More muscular. That'd be a horrible laugh. Go to top left. That's fuckable for sure. I think he'd look better in... Troy? Yeah, Troy. You're right. He's a little slim're right he's a little slim here yeah he's a little slim otter body for sure but he could get smoked otter body pull him up in troy
Starting point is 00:53:10 all right you're positive because he filled out a little bit dude otter body your girlfriend's cute by the way thank you yeah that was adorable chris was uh chris was telling me how uh she bought this onesie thing and i saw i saw how good it looked i was like where'd you get that i'm gonna get i got her another one so she's wearing it the other day and chris is like i felt kind of bad because i'm like wow she looks really good in that but i'm like i got it for her i got it because i like looking at her so it's okay uh i think it was uh viore they sent out like their like catalog whatever, and they had one like that. And I was just like, I think I got to get that for Steph.
Starting point is 00:53:49 I was like, would you wear this? I don't know how you go to the bathroom or whatever you got to do, but just put it on and you're good to go. Yeah, it's great because it's a gift for yourself. I told her it's a gift for her, but it's more so a gift for me. Yes, my eyes are pleased. My eyes are pleased. My eyes are pleased. But yeah, no, man. Being healthy, like being lean.
Starting point is 00:54:09 I think that's one thing. Being shredded is different from being lean. We're lean, but shredded. I mean, I guess in normal world, we're shredded. But in this world, we're lean. Right. Because shredded. Yeah, bodybuilding stage type stuff.
Starting point is 00:54:24 That's legit like five percent six percent body fat and that is miserable actually so there's some truth to that but also it doesn't it doesn't always have to be and there's some people that naturally have a really lean body athlean x right there's some people that are just um there's some people that like, shit, who did we have here? Marcus Philly. Marcus. Yep. Yep.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Yep. Yep. Just a naturally, I mean, he trains his face off, right? But just probably from the time he's probably been 12, I'll just guess 15.
Starting point is 00:54:59 He's probably been relatively lean for a long time. So him being under 10% body fat is, is, it's not holding his body to some hard standard. Yeah. And even getting into eight and six and like, he's probably like between six and 8%. Is that fair? Marcus Philly,
Starting point is 00:55:15 seven to 8%. Yeah. It's like forearms are kind of shredded and his shins are shredded and there's veins going everywhere. So he's not what 5%, but I'm sure he could get down another percent or two before it would get to a point where it's like, okay, this sucks.
Starting point is 00:55:31 At some point, it's going to probably suck because you're going to have to reduce the calories so much. Yeah, but the big thing is, again, these things, if you're trying to get leaner, understand you should give yourself time. Don't crash diet for it. Don't try to go on some ridiculous diet that you can't stick to for a long time because you're trying to lose a lot of weight really fast. Because that does lead you to yo-yo dieting because you didn't cement any type of habits that are going to allow you to maintain that body into your lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:56:00 So you get to this body, but since you did it so quickly and it was a crash diet, you start doing some of your old habits again and you gain all that weight back and more. You can lose body fat and keep it off, but we talk about it all the time. You just need to give yourself the time to cement in the necessary habits to maintain that physique. It takes time. We shouldn't even have body fat percentage. It should be muscle percentage. It would be way better to come from that side of it and be like, I'm 84% muscle or I'm 85% muscle. I'm 86% muscle and keep trying to work that number up because what you just mentioned, weight, I think that's a big problem. It's that people are focused in on the weight. It's true. the weight. The guy who got really lean in the picture that we saw, he probably was under the
Starting point is 00:56:46 misconception that if I lose a bunch of weight, I'm going to be really lean. And he's correct. If you lose a bunch of weight, you can be really lean, but then you end up in that same spot. You end up in the, and then what situation. And now what are you going to do? You're going to continue to eat this way all the time, because if you don't continue to send the same message to your body, your body's going to start to do different things. If you start to get out of the loop with that diet and out of the loop with some of those habits, you'll start to lose that. You'll lose momentum and you'll go back to the way that you were before. So if you're able to drop some weight, a better way to think about it is I mainly want to lose body fat. And when I'm trying to maintain or get a little bigger,
Starting point is 00:57:34 I actually want to be able to increase my muscle mass or increase my strength. If you're at like maintenance calories, I know that these guys are kind of talking about kind of the normal population that maybe isn't even necessarily in the gym. And I think that's a big problem too. Like you need to – lifting weights is going to be something that is going to be massively helpful. The kitchen is obviously a big part of it. The food that you consume is obviously a big part of it. But the weight training will make it that much easier. Like there needs to be some form of resistance training. And you know, another
Starting point is 00:58:11 thing to even think about, and I don't even really know the diets of some of these people, but if you look at sprinters or you look at like gymnasts, soccer players, surfers, like you go down the list of some certain sports when you start to think about it or even certain positions in certain sports. These people are really lean. Like are basketball players miserable? Are surfers miserable? Like they seem chill.
Starting point is 00:58:37 They seem like they're, seem like they don't have fucking care in the world. And a lot of times they're shredded. Beach volleyball comes to mind. Like just run through your head. Okay, hyper active people i understand yeah they're doing a lot of activity but you can also come at this whole uh body fat thing from an energy expenditure standpoint and if you're expending the energy to get there and you're not reducing your calories so much that you'd feel like crap you'll probably feel fucking amazing because you're not reducing your calories so much that you'd feel like crap, you'll probably
Starting point is 00:59:05 feel fucking amazing because you're moving around so much and emotion is the lotion. Movement is where it's at. Movement probably does more for your brain than it will ever do for your brain and the biochemistry of your body than it will ever do for you, the actual body. So that's, I think the mind shift that a lot of people need to get into. Yeah. Look at the habits that you have to maintain your physique currently. You don't track. I don't track calories.
Starting point is 00:59:34 I haven't tracked calories since 2016, so we eat intuitively. But you're running, right? For this podcast, we're standing. After this podcast, you keep yourself moving. We went on a walk earlier. We went on a walk earlier and you lift. For me, I don't really sit much unless like I'm chilling, but I have jujitsu, I have the gym, I have running, right? I have habits that I don't look at as workouts, but these things are just part of my life that make it easy to stay lean right so if
Starting point is 01:00:06 you could figure out a way whether you know if you don't have time to go to a gym if you can have some type of weight some kettlebells or something at your house you can do a sick workout in 30 or 45 minutes but maybe for the rest of your day if you find that you're sitting down all day fucking get a desk riser so you can put that at your desk rise computer so now that you're standing when you're working that in and of itself is going to make a difference every now and then go on periodic walks if you work with a crew go out take a walk 15 20 minutes do some brainstorming come back make movement part of your culture and movement part of what you do because it'll be a small change in the beginning but over time that change will compound and it'll be super
Starting point is 01:00:45 beneficial for keeping body fat off, even though that might not be the initial or the main intention. Joel Green made a post this morning and Joel is always trying to kind of figure out a way to cheat the system without really like truly being like a gym nut. Although I think he's gotten more back into some lifting. He tries to figure out some ways to just implement and introduce exercise into his day-to-day. And he was walking on the treadmill this morning. He said that people used to walk on average seven to eight miles every day, 20,000 steps. And so he was just illustrating the idea of walking on a treadmill while answering emails, walking on a treadmill while you got your laptop in front of you.
Starting point is 01:01:25 You could take your phone and hop on a treadmill or go on a walk. There's even things you can put by your feet like recumbent bike type things that you can put by your feet if you have at your desk at work. And you can be working and you can be moving your feet the whole time. and you could be moving your feet the whole time. So there's ways around this that can be super beneficial and they don't have to be things that really take extra time. You're already sitting at your desk and you know that your hip bothers you and your calf and your ankle or whatever.
Starting point is 01:01:57 You start moving, that movement will really help you in other areas of your life, plus you'll be less fat. These Neboso things on my feet right now, you know, neat in terms of the metabolism equation, non-exercise activity thermogenesis. It's the things that burn calories just based off of the random things you're doing that's not exercise.
Starting point is 01:02:18 So with these things at the bottom of my feet. We're both smashing on them. Yeah, we're smashing our feet on it. But what it's actually causing is it's because it's the sensation under our feet and we're smashing the fascia of our feet we're moving more we're moving more just because of the texture that's on our feet so typically at the podcast years ago like we'd just be standing here like this right there wouldn't be much movement but now we're fucking fidgeting and we're not thinking about the calorie burn but when you brought that
Starting point is 01:02:43 up i'm like we're burning more calories just because we're now smashing our feet and doing this while we're talking while we're thinking so these are just again these are like what you just said they're implements that have a that make us to make take passive action but it gives us benefit in the long run oh can you pull up that picture of Joel Green on his Instagram? He posted this mirror pic where I'm like, damn, Joel, 58 looking like that? Jesus, dude. Oh, yeah, the shoulders? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:11 I saw it too. He's jacked. One second, guys. I'm getting a call from my aunt. Let's see. Joel Green. Yeah, people need to follow Joel Green. I know they get confused by his information, but he's dope.
Starting point is 01:03:24 He's too smart he is smart yeah look at those shoulders i mean he's got some lighting going on there but got some veins coming in shoulders looking wide looking good and then yes if you can bring up that last post he's on the treadmill kind of spells it out a little bit there on uh just walking on and using the laptop that last course it's called laptop cardio essentially it's just working and walking together and the reason behind it is that the average human today um doesn't really walk that much where if you go back before the industrial revolution,
Starting point is 01:04:05 the average human was walking seven to eight miles a day. So that's seven to eight miles a day. That's missing in the average human's day. And this alone explains a lot. So the other issue is lactic acid. So what you learn about in the immune centered fat loss course is that's good. You can cut it.
Starting point is 01:04:22 That's when we lose them. Yeah. Yeah. He, he's super smart smart but y'all get that oh yeah five days to 58 that was what i was yeah you guys already saw that yeah he's jacked man 58 this man this this is the shit that gets me pumped seeing guys like joel seeing guys in their 50s and 60s crushing it like this we can do we don't have to age yeah and then something
Starting point is 01:04:43 like he's getting more mobile, too. He's working on his mobility as well. And to look like that, though, I know we're talking about the diet side, but he's not suffering in the gym. He works out very smart, and he's fucking jacked. But he's not in there
Starting point is 01:04:59 four or five hours a day because he's not going to waste his time. He's going to do it smart. He doesn't prep meals. He doesn't do any of that stuff. He just eats when it's time to eat, cooks when it's time. We don't prep meals either. We don't prep meals.
Starting point is 01:05:11 He makes good decisions. He eats a ton. He loves the legendary tasty pastries, and he loves the sticky bun things. What the hell are they called? They just need to change it to sticky buns. Fuck it. Sweet roll. Fucking sweet rolls. Sweet roll. Yeah that the sticky bun thing you've stuck
Starting point is 01:05:27 in my head now too i yeah i don't know sticky buns sounds so good it's sticky buns are good i'm gonna hold you down and eat your sticky buns dog chill oh sorry don't look at me don't look at me in the eye when you say that shit man don't look at me in the eyes like you look at me deep in the ass i want to lay you down eat eat your sticky buns. Die. Sticky buns. Why are they so sticky? Sticky buns could probably be like a jujitsu move. Check out the sticky buns. How?
Starting point is 01:05:55 Yeah, well. Instead of like in SEMA. If you pay for my Patreon, I'll show you guys. In SEMA, sticky buns. Inyang, that's his like his jujitsu fighting name. That's not going to stick. I hope so. You never know. You never know. Don't make me
Starting point is 01:06:09 suck your dick right now. That'd be I broke you. I broke you so quick. He would hate to do it. You want to see someone get mad. You want to see someone get mad, tell them to suck your dick right now.
Starting point is 01:06:29 He'll go off. Oh, fuck. All right, fuck this show. Andrew, take us on out of here. Yeah. Starting point is 01:07:29 This is something I did probably more so years ago than I'm doing now. So I should get back to that shit because it's really helpful and useful. But write stuff down, you know, things that you want, things that you're going after. Andrew just recently starting jujitsu, me starting running, you know, the things that you're pursuing.
Starting point is 01:07:49 It wouldn't, it would be a good practice not only to write down the thing that you're doing or the thing that you want to do that you're trying to set yourself up to do, but it'd also be good to write down maybe a handful of things you'd like to get from it. How cool would it be to have a journal that shows what you're looking for from, and it could be private, it could be your own thing. It's to yourself. It's whatever shit that you're working through. I'm going to do the same thing with running because I haven't really done that yet, but it's a great practice and it has been something that I've utilized in the past from a financial standpoint, from a career standpoint in lifting. Every morning found it to be really helpful because when it's in your mind
Starting point is 01:08:46 and you think about it that much, and when you see it visually, you start to have a cascade of disciplines that surround that goal and help lift that goal up and gives you an opportunity to at least be in line to hit that goal. Strength is never weakness. Weakness is never strength.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Catch you guys later. Bye.
