Starting point is 00:00:00 Power Project crew, what's going down? I hope you're having an amazing day. Today we have a great clip from the one and only Mark Smelly Bell. Today he's basically telling you that he doesn't believe in hard work, which is extremely confusing coming from a guy who works extremely hard day in and day out.
Starting point is 00:00:16 But he goes on to explain that it's your interest level in whatever it is that you're working on, that's actually gonna determine how hard the work actually is. For example, I absolutely love working on the podcast. It's nothing to me to stay late on a Friday to finish up this episode that you guys are currently listening to right now. It's absolutely nothing to me to work Saturday, Sunday, you know, throughout the week and again the next week. It's because I love this podcast. My interest level is extremely high. Therefore, the work is
Starting point is 00:00:51 actually not that difficult for me. Now, again, the difficulty level definitely goes up and down. However, the difficult and like how hard the work is for me is it's basically nothing. Another thing that I'm extremely interested in is Icon Meals. You guys know that last weekend when we were down at the Arnold, Todd Abrams and Icon Meals filled up our fridge at the Airbnb and we survived off of those. Mark fasted the entire day and then ate steak at night. And Seema and myself, we were pounding a bunch of those Icon Meals. I highly recommend anything brisket. It's extremely good. It doesn't really make a lot of those Icon Meals. I highly recommend anything brisket. It's extremely good.
Starting point is 00:01:28 It doesn't really make a lot of sense how it can go from freezer to microwave straight to your face in about four minutes and taste that good. You guys really need to give it a go. Head over to Icon Meals right now, iconmeals.com, at checkout, enter promo code POWERPROJECT for 10% off your order. If you guys are digging this clip, make sure you hit up Mark up mark bell at mark smelly bell pretty much on any social media network and let me know what you think uh and for now enjoy the show checking in peeps what the hell's going on this is not an interactor interactive live ig this is me just with a message today that's all it's going to be so you can't say shit even if you wanted to because I ain't going to read it because I'm driving
Starting point is 00:02:11 got the Tesla driving actually but anyway I wanted to talk to you about the decisions that you make and how they're everything and how a lot of times we're driven by we're driven by our physiology. You know, we're driven by how we feel. And if you're not recovering from stuff and you feel like crap, then it's going to be
Starting point is 00:02:38 very hard to do what you want to do. It's going to be very hard to make the right decision. It's going to be very hard to shop and to buy chicken breast instead of buying mac and cheese. It's going to be very hard to stay focused and stay honed in on your diet. It's going to be very hard to stay focused and honed in on your sleep when your interest to stay up and watch something on Netflix is higher than your interest in being more developed or having a better
Starting point is 00:03:05 physique. Everything surrounds your interest level. But if you're not doing things that are in your best interest to make sure that you're physically feeling well every single day, then your interest level is almost irrelevant. And it tells you something about your interest level. What it tells you is, because your interest level is never actually irrelevant, what it tells you is, is that your interest level in having a better body or your interest level in being stronger is lower than you thought. You probably have an interest in being strong or an interest in looking good for external reasons
Starting point is 00:03:50 and not enough internal reasons. Your why is not strong enough to figure out how to get it done any way that you can. And that can and will happen. When your reasons on why you're doing something are so powerful, the how becomes something that you just figure out. The how could be that it takes you 10 hours a day
Starting point is 00:04:19 to figure out how to be in the best shape of your life. Sun's kicking my ass right now, by the way. to figure out how to be in the best shape of your life. Sun's kicking my ass right now, by the way. You know, your how and your why. You know, you hear people talking about it all the time, but it's important. But if your interest level is just high, if you want bigger biceps,
Starting point is 00:04:39 more so than anything else in the world, then you will figure out how to get bigger biceps. Even if you're kind of stubborn to growth. You have decisions each and every day. And these decisions are opportunities. These decisions are opportunities to get better. You have an opportunity to distance yourself from other people every single day. You have an opportunity to pull away.
Starting point is 00:05:09 You have an opportunity to break the band. How much further ahead are you always than other people? And or how far behind are you always from other people? Let's say you have a lifting partner that's always 45 pounds ahead on a squat bench or deadlift, but you start closing that gap, that's breaking the band. Or what if you break away? What if you start to really truly break away and no one can catch up to you any longer? What would that entail? What would that look like? What would that be? That would mean that every single time that you're faced with a decision, you make the correct one.
Starting point is 00:05:54 That means that every single morning when you wake up and you decide to break your fast with breakfast or you decide to cheat on your diet early in the day, or you decide to cheat on your diet early in the day, that means that you're taking some steps backwards. That means you're taking two steps backwards. And here's why. Because you're going to be building up more anxiety and you're going to be more worried about the shit that you're not doing because you're more involved with things that you shouldn't be doing.
Starting point is 00:06:23 You're more involved with things that you shouldn't be doing when you know that there's things that you should be doing and that you could be doing to progress you. And in my opinion, that is a double negative. You may have heard me more recently say things like motivation is fleeting, right? You might hear other people say that. Well, that's why I recommend a daily fucking dose of it. Treat your motivation and inspiration like a shower. Bring it every single day. It needs to be brought every single day. You need some of it every single day. And motivation is not about turning up music.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Motivation is not about all these other things. Sometimes cranking up music can heighten your senses. Sometimes having someone whack you in the back before you do a lift can heighten your senses, can kind of stimulate the central nervous system a little bit. And that can be healthy and that can be fun. It's just fun. You know, why did I crank up, um, running down a dream by Tom Petty when I was lifting yesterday? It wasn't because I needed it. It's because I wanted it. I wanted that little adrenaline dump right before I hit the 505 with 200 pounds of band tension on there. I just wanted it. I didn't need it. I didn't need anything external. People ask me all the time about pre-workout
Starting point is 00:07:48 and what they should take before they work out. Pre-workouts are fine. They can work pretty good. But if you're taking a pre-workout because you need it, like, oh man, I need to wake up. Man, that is a line of bullshit. Look, you know what? People need to change their dialogue. And this
Starting point is 00:08:05 might be a whole nother entire video, but you need to change your dialogue. You know what? Going out to the Arnold this week was fucking easy. It was fun. It was exciting. It was exhilarating. Uh, did I get a little tired because my sleep was off? Yeah. Because, you know, getting to bed was just hard because I was so excited. Getting to sleep, getting the proper sleep. But I wasn't wrecked. I hear other people say, man, that weekend wrecked me. Why? Come on now. You're not prepared for it. You're not ready for it. Why are you not prepared for it? Why are you not ready for it? It don't make no sense. You should be prepped for it. You should be ready for it. You should be heightened for it. You should be hyped for it. This is what
Starting point is 00:08:50 we live for. This is what we do. This is part of the fitness community. I'm going to be run down by meeting fans. Are you kidding me? I feel great from meeting fans. It gives me energy, but a lot of it has to do with your mindset and changing the dialogue. It's a wonderful opportunity. I got to interview everyone from Eddie Hall to the world's strongest gay to Dave Tate, one of my mentors. I mean, look, you know, unbelievable opportunity. one of my mentors. I mean, look, you know, unbelievable opportunity. All those opportunities feel amazing. And all those opportunities are leading to the podcast being completely 100% on fire. Am I tired from that? Fuck no. I don't even believe in hard work anymore.
Starting point is 00:09:41 People keep saying it's all about hard work. The work isn't hard. The work is simple. And the work every once in a while will be more difficult than it was previously, but it still ain't hard. It's not hard. The difficulty level may have increased. It's not hard. The difficulty level may have increased. Life ain't about working hard. Life's about being consistent. Be consistent.
Starting point is 00:10:13 How's that? You won't even have an opportunity to be consistent if you're working too hard. That might sound kind of weird, right? Anyway, I want you to think about that. Each and every day you've got opportunities. What are you going to do with them? When you're faced with an opportunity tonight to sit on the couch and watch TV for too long and get to bed too late and to cheat on your diet. By the way, there's many ways of cheating on your diet.
Starting point is 00:10:51 One way to be certain that you can cheat on any style, any diet that you do is just to eat too much. Why go through the whole day flying at about 95% on stuff just to kind of ruin it all at the end of the day. And are you telling yourself that your day was hard? That's what people do, right? Oh, I had a long day. I had a long weekend.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I had a long weekend because I was at the Arnold. What are you, a pussy? Come on. There's nothing hard about it. There's 24 hours in every day. Nothing changed. The time zone, man. Hey, you know, we got screwed by the time zone. And what about the time changes? For those of you watching, for those of you watching for those of you watching my my vlog mark smelly bell youtube channel mental toughness is a myth it's all about being prepared take the guy that you think is the toughest take david goggins right he's a tough sob okay give him a scalpel and tell him he's
Starting point is 00:11:59 got to save his mother he's got to conduct brain surgery on her. How tough is he now? Does his heart rate increase too great? Does he not know what to do? Does he get into panic? He might not. He might not. He might say, you know what? I'm going to fucking YouTube this. And he might breathe in and breathe out. And he might figure even when it comes to somebody that we would view as one of the toughest people in the world, he might figure even when it comes to somebody that we would view as the tough one of the toughest people in the world he might freak the hell out because you're not prepared for that situation doesn't know what to do mental toughness is a myth in some ways it's
Starting point is 00:12:36 preparedness it's being prepared and along with being prepared you have to have some positive energy towards it because the negative energy is going to result in negative results. But why would you have negative energy? Why would you have a lot of self-doubt if you were prepared? If I was prepared to beat someone's ass in a fight, I would be able to smoke them. Right? And I would feel confident that I'd smoke them because I'd be confident in my skill. If I wasn't confident in my skill, I'd be like, like if I'd be confident in my skill. If I wasn't confident
Starting point is 00:13:05 in my skill, I'd be like, like if I was to fight, uh, in SEMA and SEMA basically fights every day, he grapples every day. He does jujitsu every day. You know, can I catch him with a shot? Maybe I could get lucky. Right. But I'd have a lot of selfdoubt because I'm like, dude, that guy ties people up like a pretzel every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Even Josh Setledge here, who weighs about a buck 60. What are my odds against someone like that? Someone who can wrestle, someone who can grapple. Again, if I can catch him somewhere along the lines, you know, street fight is way different. I can hit somebody over the head with a bottle or bite him or whatever if I need to, right? I'm not about to lose anything, right? But you kind of get the idea like, you know, how well are you going to fight with a
Starting point is 00:13:57 broken arm and how well are you going to fight when you're not prepared for it? I don't fight. I don't practice it. So I wouldn't be very good at it. Comes to lifting weights, I practice that quite a bit. I'm confident in my ability to beat someone in a squat bench or deadlift. Because I work on it a lot. I don't work on it the way I used to. So I wouldn't be as confident as smashing the weights like I used to. Anyway, suckers, think about the decisions that you have to make. Try to take the higher ground. Try to make the better choice. Try to make the better decision. Try to choose the right foods.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Try to choose the 10-minute walk. Try to choose ordering a little bit less food. Try to think about moving a little bit more. You know, you hear this thing about being the hardest worker in the room. You know, I don't know. Again, I don't believe in hard work. But you should want to be better than everybody else. I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:15:06 You should want to be better than everybody else. Be better than everybody else. I like that a lot. You should want to be better than everybody else. Be better than everybody else. And you don't have to say anything. You know, when you go out to eat, you're the one that holds strong on your diet. When you, uh, when you're faced with an opportunity to lift or sleep, you lift. Nobody needs to say anything, right? You're making, you're making a little bit better decision than the rest of the crew. And who knows why they're making their decisions. You can't really judge on that, but you do know you're making a better decision for yourself, right? Strength is never a weakness. Weakness is never strength. I got to get to work. Catch you all later. Poopcast, what's going down? Real quick um well first off thank you mark smelly bell for that awesome clip um i don't know about you guys but i'm feeling pretty damn motivated
