In this episode, we answer fitness and health questions that are asked by our audience, but we all have a lot of fun in the beginning of this episode. That's the first 44 minutes. It's the intro portion, we'll talk about current events.
Starting point is 00:00:31 Sometimes we mention our sponsors. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna give you a breakdown of today's episode. By the way, before I do, I wanna let everybody know our Black Friday sale is going on right now. It's happening, you guys. This is the biggest sale of the year,
Starting point is 00:00:46 by far, all individual maps, workout programs, are 65% off. That's crazy. 65% off. And our bundles, which are already discounted, multiple programs, already discounted, is an additional 50% off. All right, so here's what you do.

He's advanced, he's much more advanced.
Starting point is 00:01:26 He's more than a baby boy. Then more, he's like, and then 100th percentile for three weeks, I looked up the studies. Basically. Then we talked to Adam and Justin about their crazy drive home. Poor guys were very scared.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Had to hug. He's a harrowing experience. Embrace and do weird things. We locked Pinkie. It was the last, the Pinkie toes, then we talk about how sheriffs in california are refusing to enforce Zarr Gavin Newsom's orders Lord newsroom isn't happy about that then we talk about the black friday sale I already mentioned that I talk about the squats. I did this weekend. I did a lot of squats
Starting point is 00:02:02 10 sets of squats squats, And I'm feeling really good. Then we talk about the movie shoot that's happening by Justin's house with one of the most handsome Hollywood actors that I'm trying to take my wife. And then we talk about the skiing adventures Justin had with his two sons this weekend. Then we got into the fitness questions.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Here's the first one. This person wants to know if a food intolerance can actually prevent you from deriving the nutritional value of food. So does having intolerance affect how the food is assimilated and utilized by the body? The next question, this person wakes up in the morning feeling very stiff and immobile wants to know if there's anything they can do. Get your head out of the gutter Justin. Hey, I, it's not there. Next question, this guy says, look, I'm bulking, but I'm actually just getting fat. What's the deal?
Starting point is 00:02:49 And the final question, this person wants to know how vocalizing our personal opinions has either helped or hurt our business. Again, I mentioned the Black Friday sale for the programs and for the bundles. One more thing, we're also having a Black Friday sale on all of our accessories, sweatshirts, hats, drinkwear, and T-shirts.
Starting point is 00:03:11 So again, at our mind pump store, we sell things like resistance bands, suspension trainers, we sell T-shirts and sweatshirts and hats and all kinds of stuff. Get everything at a massive discount between 25 to 60% off. That's at mindpumpstore.com. And then if you missed the Black Friday place to go for the programs, it's maps fitnessproducts.com.
Starting point is 00:03:36 When my son was little, he was all worried because he said a bad word. And I was like, tell me what it was. Come on buddy, it's okay. And he's like, I don't want to say it again. Like you won't get in trouble. Like what letter does it start with? He goes, okay. He's like, I don't want to say it again. Like you won't get in trouble. Like what letter does it start with? He goes, yes.
Starting point is 00:03:47 I'm like, oh man. Oh no. I'm like, here it comes. I'm like, shit's not that bad of a warning. It looks like, what's shit? Like, huh? Like, what did you say? It goes stupid.
Starting point is 00:03:55 I was like, you're right. I remember when you said that. You don't want to use that. I gotta be careful. Hey, speaking of kids, I got another milestone situation that I'm curious to hear you guys enlighten me like on these moments, right? So, you know, as a dad,
Starting point is 00:04:11 you're like stretching things and then every once in a while you overreached like in working out. The same thing happens I feel like with like messing with my son, like, oh, he's not ready for that yet. Oh, no, yes, I have, I did that many times. I've used to things, yeah, you don't say anything, right? So we're reading, doing our usual night thing that we do. And he's got this book that we've been reading for the last five, say, month or so.
Starting point is 00:04:34 And you open it and it's got a hole about this big in the front of it. And he, like, we play Picaboo and stuff like that. Like his favorite thing to do is like, we're all rereading and he'd be sticky. He sticks his foot through the hole in his hand. And so, you know, he's been playing a lot with that. And- That's a good time. Right, so he's grabbing my hand now,
Starting point is 00:04:53 and he wants me to put my hand through it, right? So he grabs my hand to put it through there, and I pretend like the book sucks my hand in. Oh no! No! Here's the show. Dude, he just, whoo, I felt so bad, dude. Oh, shit, he's not ready for that. Yeah. That's your job, dude. It was a death. Your job is to constantly do that. I did that to my son.
Starting point is 00:05:16 He had a film it, though. I did to my boy. He was like 11 and I'm, and I'm, you know, him and I used to watch cartoons together. And there was this like anime cartoon. It was kind of cool, but it was a little scary. It was a little frightening a little bit. I'm like, he I'm, you know, him and I used to watch cartoons together and there was this like anime cartoon was kind of cool, but it was a little scary. It was a little frightening a little bit. I'm like, he's 11. He's, he's a good. He's gonna have a good time. Anyway, we're watching. And he's totally into it and the frickin' one of the monsters comes out and bites someone in half. And he, he goes, he didn't even cry dude, he did one of these. And he kind of, he kind of froze. Oh, dude, I was like, I just damaged my kid right now. You wanna know what's funny? He would not watch that for years after words.
Starting point is 00:05:51 That scared the shadow. Yeah, I did that one. When we were at Disneyland and I forget what ride is that? The one, the main roller coaster, that's like the one, it was like Halloween. Oh, it's the Manahorn. Manahorn, yeah. No, not the Manahorn.
Starting point is 00:06:04 The other one, the other one. Space Mountain. Right, it's the Manahorn. Manahorn, yeah. No, not the Manahorn. The other one, the space mountain. Right, so space mountain, yeah. So they changed it, and I didn't know because of Halloween, they made like the super creepy ass ghost follow us. You know, as we're going on this, this is the first time he even like went on a roller coaster. I'm like, that's gonna be fine, dude. This is, this is did the land.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Everything is fun and happy and exciting. And we're sitting on there and like, we're getting into it, it's super dark and everything's cool and he's just like really nervous and he's like holding onto me like super tight. And we're getting up through this. And then this ghost thing comes to like eat us. And he's like, ah!
Starting point is 00:06:37 And then we left out of there. He was like just shivering. You know what I was like, oh my God, I fucked up. I was the worst. Good, I'm not that bad of a dad yeah you're gonna do a more okay yeah yeah i was early i was the worst of my younger brother because let's see he's six years younger than me so i'm so as i got older i was not
Starting point is 00:06:56 old enough to really judge things as well so i used to do that to him constantly like i give him a hall opinion when he was like four or five you know know, like you can handle it Mike here try this out buddy You drink water gets worse. I sure all right. Oh, dude. I gave him duct tape to play with and he tucked it his hair You know what's oh my god? I had to cut his hair and I made a promise that to tell my mom and I gave him a pocket knife This is how I got him not to tell my mom like don't tell mom. Don't tell me cry. Oh, I'm like here I'll give him a pocket knife. He was like seven Like don't tell mom. I'll let you have this. You're something more dangerous Yeah, he's still fucks with me to this day about that
Starting point is 00:07:30 He's like did you ruin me give you a pocket? I have a seven I could have killed Gonna hurt myself With you. Oh, yeah, I'm speaking to kids I forget about this. There's this bias right when you have a kid where you try to See them objectively, but you can a kid where you try to see them objectively, but you can't help but think that they're special. You know what I'm saying? Of course.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Like they do something like, oh, this kid. He's way ahead. Like what the best of this. Like I remember when Max first, like, lift his head up, and he's like, look, look how early he's lifting his head up. Yeah, yeah. He's gonna be so strong.
Starting point is 00:07:58 And he's like, everybody else cares about that stuff. You look at all of my friends. So I did this, he's like four months ahead right now. So I did this the other day, right? So he's like, he's not even three weeks old yet, right? So I pick this, it was like two days ago, I pick him up, I am holding him and whatever. And he stares, I was very alert.
Starting point is 00:08:15 So he like stares at me and you can tell he's studying my face and I'm smiling at him and I'm making faces and then he smiles back. I'm like, this is really early for a baby to be smiling. Like, just get over here. So she comes over and I'm smiling and then he smiles back. I'm like, this is really early for a baby to be smiling. Like, just get over here. So she comes over and I'm smiling and then he does it again. And she's like, what's the big thing? I'm like, honey, babies, three weeks old don't smile.
Starting point is 00:08:33 They don't socially smile. So I had to look it up and I'm showing her. Like, you do realize- He is a subon. This is the sign of a genius. This is a subon. She's like, you sure you didn't like, you sure he wasn't pooping or something?
Starting point is 00:08:43 Like, he did it twice. He's just got gassed. Yeah, so I'm like I'm like set now and I'm in my head I'm like this kid's gonna be brilliant Oh, let's see how well this episode air ages He gets it he gets an F and you know the art class Yeah, you want to think the best always I used to think you were gonna be a genius. Yeah This episode easily, yeah, you guys have be a genius. Yeah. Just in this episode. Oh, easily. Yeah. Do you guys have a good weekend?
Starting point is 00:09:06 Where'd you guys up in this? Listen to this. So I got a handful of stories for you about this weekend and then our drive home, which was crazy. So did you guys see the video we sent over of when Justin was pulling in? I just happened to be outside. I was checking Doug sent me up with light bulbs.
Starting point is 00:09:21 That's right. This is how we started the weekend. Yeah. And so I was open the door. It's and so I was, I was open the door. It's like, I don't know what you guys roll up, 89 o'clock at night, somewhere around. 8 o'clock or so at night. And I just changed the light bulbs for the garage.
Starting point is 00:09:34 And they weren't turning on, so I was all pissed. I got the door open, it's freezing outside. And I'm like messing with the switches, trying to watch it. And just as I'm doing that, Justin's coming around the corner and he comes pulling in the driveway and his lights hit the front garage and all of a sudden you see two bears coming running out across our driveway, probably teenagers. You know I'm puffing it. Yeah. The worst kind of bears. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I wasn't sure if they were cubs and we were all afraid that maybe the mom was around because I was standing there with Max. Max was like right behind me.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I had the door wide open and then I'm like, messing with the lights, all of a sudden the lights hit and then there's like two bears running right in front of us. So I was like, yell at Katrina. Crap Max. Courtney did not want to get out of the car. Oh I bet. I got no better.
Starting point is 00:10:17 There's gonna be like a mom around here somewhere. We had the one big ass bear coming and breaking me home. How was it? Here's the cool though, I meant to tell you this Doug, I didn't even tell you this yet. I went yesterday before I left to go inspect the area to see if they messed around.
Starting point is 00:10:31 There's paw marks all over the door, the new door, but no damage or anything. It's just like, the new door is good. We got the round knob, we got the bolt on the outside, that sheet metal is bolted in, they're not gripping on any of that. So we'll see. We'll see if we get some margin for this. Not down what the bear is doing.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yeah. I don't like that. Dude, it's a honey pot. Every time they've gone there, they've gotten something out of it. I know. I don't blame them for keeping coming back for more. We didn't even have any trash in there or anything, but I think Justin's right. I think they've scored so many times that...
Starting point is 00:11:04 It's on the bear internet. It's the place to get. Yeah think that's I think Justin's right I think they've scored so many times that it's on the bear Internet Yeah, that's all on the satellite market. Yeah groups of them are showing up now Having a bear party listen to this though so last night Justin I We rally and and drive late last night was like either drive really late last night or super early You're super early this morning. I lead to Justin like bro I'd rather get on the road late at night and then sleep in my own bed than like get up at four o'clock
Starting point is 00:11:28 in the morning and try and be here, right? Yeah. So we both agree and we hit the road kind of late last night. What time do you guys end up believing? Nine or somewhere I thought. Oh, Jesus, really late. Yeah. So do you guys get home like three o'clock in the morning?
Starting point is 00:11:38 No, no. Well, we got home at like 12.30. Yeah, 12.31 somewhere on there. I'm not good with math. Yeah, like, whoa. Yeah, yeah. Quite a few hours here. Carey the two. Yeah, 1231. So we're on there. I'm not good with math. Yeah, I'm like, whoa. Yes, yes. Quite a few hours here. Here are the two.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah, you could add like a whole another hundred miles. You would now see an eagle going back. My best, so. My bad anyway. No, so we're driving, right? And Justin and I are talking back and forth. And we get to the top of Donner Pass. And all of a sudden we're in the middle
Starting point is 00:12:02 of a fucking blizzard. At a nowhere. We're flying like 70 miles an hour and you know, Donner pass where you get all the windy turns and up there all the diesel trucks, all the trucks everywhere and all of a sudden, I'm talking like mid conversation doesn't walk. Like just a cloud of snow comes in
Starting point is 00:12:19 and all of a sudden we are in, looks like we're in like hyper drive. Yeah, wild speed. And now you guys are both in your, warp, like hyper drive. Yeah, wild. War speed. And now you guys are both in your trucks. Where he's with me in mine. I drove him home. Yeah, Courtney's coming back up today. So he's, it's just him and I and our truck together.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Also, she's still up there. Yeah, okay. So, so we're driving and talking and then all of a sudden this hits us and I mean, instantly everyone slows down and people sliding around on the road. You can feel how slippery it is. And I haven't been in that bad of a storm. I've told the story, I don't know if I told it on my pump,
Starting point is 00:12:48 but I got caught in a storm one time where, this was my high school sweetheart. I was about 20 years old and we were driving, I don't know why we were doing this, but we were staying in South Lake Tahoe, but we were skiing in North Lake, I don't know why, but that's what we were doing. And so we stayed in North Lake all day until late at night
Starting point is 00:13:07 and decided to drive back home to our cabin, which is, it's about an hour driver on the lake. So North and South should take about an hour. So we were driving and that's 28 and 50. And that's where you're driving near Inclined Village, where Doug used to live, that area over there, and there's like cliffs and super sketchy. And I got caught in a blizzard on the way there
Starting point is 00:13:26 to where it was a complete wide out. The entire road was white and it's a two lane highway. And we had to drive like 10 miles an hour all the way around the scaryest night. One of the scariest nights in my life being caught that storm. This was the second worst storm on the night. You just couldn't see.
Starting point is 00:13:40 You guys like hold hands and we did. Yeah, we tried it in songs. We tried to act off. So nothing different in songs. We tried to act off. So nothing different. Yeah. We tried to act all cool like it wasn't really scary. But I'm like this, you know, up in the steering wheel, like looking at something.
Starting point is 00:13:51 That's a good thing you have an excessively lifted ridiculous truck. That's right. Well, I definitely didn't end. I felt a lot safer with a little Honda that was right next to us, you know, saying like, but that guy is shitting himself right there. I got stuck one time going up to Tahoe. We were driving up there in two cars,
Starting point is 00:14:05 my cousin's family and our family. And the storm was so bad, the whole road stopped. And we were literally stuck in place. And this was terrible. Because kids had to go the bathroom, and there was nowhere to go. We were stuck in the same place for four hours until we finally decided to turn around.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Yeah, I'm sure it was done in a pass. Because I believe we had to go back. We just turned around. They closed the whole house. It only hit decided. That was probably Donner Pats. To turn around, yeah. I'm sure it was Donner Pats, cause I'm literally need to just- We literally had to go back, we just turn around. They closed the whole thing. It only hit there, so we called the girl, once we got through it, right, we get on the bottom,
Starting point is 00:14:33 and I called Katrina, I'm like, hey, cause I called her and she didn't answer before that, and then I called again, I said, well, you're not even worried about us, you guys not, cause I thought the storm went through there and then hit them. Like, yeah, they were to saw the snow. It didn't even hit them, it was just a peak,
Starting point is 00:14:44 it was just a peak of Donner got nailed hell of hard and was scary as shit And then we so yeah, we keep driving and we start noticing there's a lot of cops out and They were like okay, wait. I guess it's like quote-a-time or something. Maybe they're like gonna be pulling people over You know, they were even they weren't even out though. They were like like wedged in with their lights off, you know, which we're discussing. I think you're like, that's, they're not allowed to do that anymore, right? Cause like you have to be able to see them.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Otherwise, it's a super, you know, big hazard. Not only that, that you can get away that, you can get away with the ticket because it's, it like in trapment because you can't see them. You're supposed to be able to see part of the cop car and they have to have their parking lights on. Oh, I don't know. I think you guys, I don't think you can have
Starting point is 00:15:24 to have enough of that. That's true, dude. And then we're, So you have to know it's a have to have their parking lights on. I don't know, I think you're gonna have to know. That's true, dude. And then you have to know it's a cop to order to get it to. No, you don't have to know it's a cop. You usually build a C that has parking lights on. So they have to have some visibility. Yeah, they can't be on the side of a freeway. But anyway, dude, we kept driving and we just saw this.
Starting point is 00:15:40 And they didn't even care about anybody else. We just were driving and they weren't even looking at us to keep looking up for something. And we were just like, well, this is really weird. And we kept going a couple miles, there's more cops wedged in really tight places, like hiding away and on the radio. And then we go a little bit further
Starting point is 00:15:59 and there's this one cop, he's actually outside his car. He's outside his car and I look over and we both saw, he had like one of those strips, you know, where they throw across the road. Oh, shit. Yeah, it's a pop tires. And I'm like, this is like a five lane freeway. Like, what the hell, like why would you like,
Starting point is 00:16:15 even if you are gonna try and stop somebody, like you're gonna throw like that out there and everybody's gonna go. Well, they must have been waiting for somebody to shoot. Oh, yeah, we're at this point, Justin and I are like tripping. You guys making up stories? Yeah, yeah. Oh, okay must have been waiting for somebody. Yeah, we're at this point just an I are like tripping you guys making up stories Yeah, yeah, okay, oh James behind us. We're like what what so and it was you know It was at least a good 20 to 30 minutes, which was probably at least you know 10 exits and at every exit There was at least two or three cop cars hidden in the dark some of the cops were out doing this
Starting point is 00:16:40 So just an I like you know speculating or to like you don't just do that for someone who's like speeding or some bullshit, like even like a, even like a stolen car isn't enough to get that many cops out. So we're trying to figure out what the fuck's going. Late in night. Yeah, yeah, we just came out. You guys had some weed. Yeah, we did. Hey, thank God we did. We actually brought that out. We're like, you can imagine if we want to smoke. Or so. Oh my god, we would have paranoid, dude. So, we're driving down, we're on 80. It's crazy. And we're seeing this and we keep, and it's just getting more and more. And I think I was the first one to be a little sketchy about it.
Starting point is 00:17:14 And Justin's like, okay, this is getting weird. It's every exit and we've been driving for 20 minutes. This is a ton of cops that are just all sitting out on the freeway waiting. You're like ready to pounce. So we're on 80 and we're getting ready if over by a Vallejo area where you branch off to 680 and it's that over, you go to the right. So you go on through Sacramento, right?
Starting point is 00:17:32 And then you branch off on to get all the way over to get to San Jose. Is this when you pass like the Budweiser sign or whatever? Is there a Budweiser sign over there? I don't know, it's more like that, remember that, like put like golf? Yes, and it's always the part where the San Jose exit creeps up on you. We're all sitting here on the left lane. You're gonna jump across. Yeah, you're gonna jump across really quick. So that's exactly golf? Yes, and it's always the part where the Santa's A exit creeps up on you. We're all sitting here on the left lane.
Starting point is 00:17:47 You had to jump across. Yeah, you had to jump across really quick. So that's exactly what happens. We're driving Justin tells me like, oh bro, we get a Santa's A exit. I was like, oh shit. So I missed it. I start merging over.
Starting point is 00:17:55 So I look in my Rubin Mir and all I see fucking way in the back. Dude, I see of cops. And they're all across like homin. Coming all fast. all four lanes, and back, five each deep, coming as fast as you can behind us. And I'm looking at them as I'm merging over the right,
Starting point is 00:18:12 and as I'm merging over the right, I see between us and the cops, is this white truck dodging in and out of cars. No lights on. No lights on doing like 120 plus miles an hour, in and out of traffic, and it's coming right to us Yeah, and we're beginning right behind us get on this on ramp and I'm like and it was just like a Mean quick reaction. I thought this I got a stop this guy. Well, no
Starting point is 00:18:36 That's like fuck this I'm getting off right here. He's going there. Let him crash to his death So we go I was like I told Justin I'm a fucking I'm going left and so I actually got out of the exit and sure shit, he went, he went right behind me to the right of me and then out the exit and then all the cop cars flying by. So he literally passed by you guys. Yes. Wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Like right alongside us and then took that exit and then all the cop cars behind. I mean, they're trying to find out what happened. You go on the news? No, we haven't yet. That was last, late last night. No, I tried. There's no news over.
Starting point is 00:19:04 It's all just over COVID, you know, election nobody gives a shit about like real thing crazy stuff Have nobody care nobody cares Big Robert dice of COVID nothing to do with this crap COVID got him he opened his restaurant when he was supposed to He opened his restaurant when he was supposed to. He had more than three people over Thanksgiving. He died. Get that son of a bitch. How dare you do that.
Starting point is 00:19:30 So let me guess, you're driving home late at night. I'm sure you guys had some caffeine because it was late at night. Driving through a blizzard, helicopters, oh shit, car chase. You didn't sleep at all last night. You know, I was okay. Once we got home, I was okay.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Oh wait a minute, but your wives and kids are bucking back up. Oh, you guys look good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of like a baby. Yeah, I was okay. Once we got home, I was, I was, Oh, wait a minute, put your wives and kids or buck up back up a truck. Oh, you guys look good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of like a baby. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it was, it was just a weird night though. I was just telling Justin, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:19:51 what a weird storm out of nowhere to get hit in. And then I was worried that like, because I still had to drive over 17, you know, even after that. And I'm like, dude, I bet you like a mountain lion is gonna jump out of the woods. Rah, you know, my way home or something. That was like the kind of night it was.
Starting point is 00:20:05 You know what I mean? Yeah. I love your animal noises. Yeah, they're awesome. Yeah, and I just hung out all the all weekend with the kid. Yeah. Yeah, with the boy in Jessica. So it was just you three then.
Starting point is 00:20:17 It was just us three, because my other two kids are with mom. So it was just us hanging out and I got to spend some really good time with them and rock them and play with them and stare at them and hang out with them. Yeah, so it was just us hanging out, and I got to spend some really good time with him and rock him and play with him and stare at him and hang out with him. Yeah, so we're having a... Now, how is he with the last night thought?
Starting point is 00:20:30 You guys, are you still syringe feeding to add to what he was eating or is he now getting enough milk? We're still working on it. It's definitely challenging. Well, Katrina and I were fighting about this last night, not like real fighting, we were arguing over like how long we were doing it for, and I swear we were doing it for quite a while.
Starting point is 00:20:47 I thought we were doing it for at least a month after he was born. She's like, it was not that long. It was like the first week, and I'm like, well, it's not like a knock against you if we had to do that relax. You know what I'm saying? Like, you gotta be careful.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Mom's taking all person away. They do. Yeah, I'm like, I was like, it's not, that's not the point. I was like, I know because you would breastfeed him, and then I would rock him, and I would syringe feed him afterwards. And I loved it. It was like, actually, I was like, I know because you would breast feed him. And then I would rock him and I would syringe feed him afterwards. And I loved it. It was like, I couldn't, he wasn't ready for a bottle yet.
Starting point is 00:21:09 I obviously can't breast feed him. So that was my only thing I got to do with him to help feed him. And so I actually really enjoyed it. And I remember doing it for I swear at least a month, but I got in trouble when I said that. I know, I was thinking about that. Because you gotta be, if you're right, they might take a personal, but I get it, right?
Starting point is 00:21:27 Because as a father, what if she said, what if she said, dude, she's like, yeah, remember that, remember that year you weren't making that much money? It was a tough year. But we made it, what do you mean? We did okay. We did okay.
Starting point is 00:21:38 No, you're right, it's totally like that. You know, she gets like, it's like something that she was lacking as a mother. She wasn't producing enough. I was like, oh, dude, I didn't even think like that when I said it. And I'm like that she was lacking as a mother She wasn't producing enough. I was like oh, dude I didn't even think like that when I said it and I'm like oh you know what you're right It was only like a day or two. Yeah, I remember I remember growing my chest hair back out just to make sure there's no confusion Huh, yeah
Starting point is 00:21:57 You know when you're rocking because you were nursing him for a while No, but I mean sometimes you're hanging you put him to sleep and then they would kind of like they do Nuzzle their way down and like, no! It's like, ew, ew! It's how I start growing like a big patch of hair. They'll like, I see you the first time like letting it happen a little bit, you know what I'm saying? Like, ew, go ahead, try, let's see what happens.
Starting point is 00:22:15 It's all about you. No, I hate you. You gotta give him some struggle in life. Go ahead, try what you want. They're not gonna get anywhere. Yeah, no, it's, he had a, I saw, put him on my body, you know, my chest, so we're like skin to skin. And they do that, they kick with their legs
Starting point is 00:22:31 and they start to search, right? And you know that they can see, like that's color of your nipple is different than your skin and they smell, so I'll actually try to seek it out. So he's like, doing this thing and he puts his mouth down on my chest to try to, and then he has his confused look
Starting point is 00:22:44 because I think he has some chest errors. It's good. Like dad has this. It's not your mom. It's not your mom, buddy. I saw you guys also did the bath first time, right? Yeah, we gave, yeah, we gave him a little bath with the warm, you know, the warm water from the sink or whatever.
Starting point is 00:23:01 It's so wild to like watch you guys go through all the, because I feel like I just came out of the Twilight Zone and to see you guys kind of in it right now. So it'll be interesting. I want to hear what you have to say. Like I, when I tell people, I say, the first six to eight months was very much so Twilight Zone.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Not a lot of sleep, you're not doing very much. Like he's barely starting to get to where you can see and recognize who you are. It was after that that I feel like, I love right now now where he's at and from one like one year old on now I'm we're at a year and a half. You're gonna have a great time when he's like two and a half three. Yeah. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Oh yeah. That's when they push back and they're little shit about. Yeah. Well I told you last time on the podcast that he's definitely. I know you told me that. I'm like you got a smart one in your hands. You're gonna be sure. My daughter you would throw tantrums that I'm serious if you could hook her up to a generator She would power a city with the amount of energy she would produce it was in
Starting point is 00:23:54 You know she did ever tell you guys she knocked one of her teeth out one time because she threw such a crazy tantrum Yes, that's powerful as a little kid she was in the in the the cart or whatever at the target. And she wanted a toy. And every time we go to the store, you get her a toy. So I'm like, no, you're not gonna get it this time. And she lost her shit. And I thought, you know, normally when this happens, I'm not gonna give in, she's gonna just whatever. Anyway, she's freaking out, I'm gonna turn around
Starting point is 00:24:21 and then you see blood, what's going on? She must have swung her head and hit her own tooth. So see, I really wanna hear from you. and then you see blood. What's going on? She must have swung her head and hit her own tooth. So see, I really want to hear from you. I hope you remember to do this. As you have these moments of, you know, oh, I want to be a better dad this time around or oh, I did this different. I want to hear that.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Like because you were experienced already and it's been a long time since you've had kids, I really want to hear those self-awareness moments that you have where you're just like, oh, I remember this and now I'm doing this instead. Like, I was telling Justin on the way home that our latest parent hack, right? We, it's, I totally understand now why parents appreciate the routine, right?
Starting point is 00:25:00 Because when he's home and the naps are on point, the routine is everything. Oh, it's everything. It's like the kids in absolute saint, he's home and you know the naps are on point routine is everything. Oh, it's everything It's like the kids in absolute saint. He's easy. It's it's great, right as soon as you go You know we travels go somewhere or what about that for the weekend or a few days and he's out of his routine It's like oh my god. It's like starting all over again of trying to get him to get in get in go to sleep and do all that stuff and so And something that I at least I've learned like for at least for max in my experiences that the more as a parent you get frustrated
Starting point is 00:25:31 and you resist those types of things, the more difficult it becomes versus trying to just kind of weave in and out of it. Just an hour talking about this. Like you gotta, I call it like putting cones out, like constantly I'm just always putting cones out to kind of like maneuver them around to where I eventually I want them to go.
Starting point is 00:25:47 It's not like, because you can't control them. You know, that's just not gonna work out for you. Like you're gonna think that you have all these things perfect and it's all gonna go down this way and it never does. So it's just like for me, I've just learned to kind of like, you know, at least like build that path so eventually it gets to work. No, he was sharing this last time.
Starting point is 00:26:05 I'm so funny you say that because this is like the latest, you know, parent hack for us is when we go out to trucky, one of the things that is always frustrating is exactly that. It's like his bedtime routine, like it changes his time, it goes to bed, we don't have the rocking chair, we don't have the room like transit, I mean, we have this whole transition system that we do home.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I mean, we still bath and read, that's all normal and feeding time, all that. But his environment is so different that it's like we're trying to adjust to like, how do we get this kid to go right down? Because he goes right down at home. And so what we do is we lay on the bed and because it's instead of like resisting him and fighting him and dealing with it,
Starting point is 00:26:41 we're like, you know, we'll just let him wear it down. We get, after we're done with reading, Katrina literally shuts all the lights off in the room, blacks it out. And she lays on one side of the bed, I lay on the other side of the bed, and we just leave them in between us. We don't talk to them, we don't communicate, we don't say anything to them.
Starting point is 00:26:55 And we just let it, he kind of goes back and forth between us. And sticks his head. Yeah, exactly. He's like, flopping his arms around and talking to himself. And we don't communicate with him nothing and just kinda let him do his thing.
Starting point is 00:27:07 15, 20 minutes or so of him doing that with it pitch black in the room. And we can feel the bottom, so if he starts to wanna crawl off the bed, you feel like patrin' like shove him over to me and then I pull him up. And it's just like this dance that we do all until he finally just kinda wears himself out
Starting point is 00:27:22 and then he'll eventually park his head like in between either her or me and whichever one he does, that person just naturally gets up, rock some for a few seconds and then put some down in the sky. But that's like, it took a while to figure this out. Like, okay, the more we resist him
Starting point is 00:27:37 and get frustrated with him, not wanting to go down because he's in a new place, the more difficult it is. The irony of it all too is he's a kid, you fight going to sleep, and then when you're older, you can't find time to go to sleep. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:49 Like I take back all those naps that I fought. I'd love to have a few of those back. Give me those, mom. You know what I'm saying? Please. Oh man, anyway, so this episode's up on Thanksgiving. Yeah, it's Thanksgiving. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Happy Thanksgiving. Weird Thanksgiving, a little bit weird for people. Did you guys hear that the sheriffs in California told Gavin Newsom that they would not enforce his? I love this. Thanksgiving orders. I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:13 The young guy doesn't even practice his own laws in mandates for everybody else. That's so bad. That's a bad reflection of leadership. You had to think that was coming right. Do you guys have anybody though that they hear stuff like that? And they're like, oh, this is what Gavin Newsom said. So we need to do this.
Starting point is 00:28:29 I don't know anybody that's like, there's people like that. I think when people, there's people DM me again. Again. We get really upset with me. Look, I think if you look at people's behaviors, when COVID cases go up and people are aware,
Starting point is 00:28:44 people naturally start to modify their behaviors. Sure. The problem is when you make all these mandates, then they start to rely on you to government to tell them what to do. So the second government's like, okay, we're opening back up. Comment, everybody put it over here.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Yeah, so I think people naturally would kind of begin, but I do like the fact that the, now I'm not saying I think people should have gatherings of massive amounts, I think people need would kind of begin, but I do like the fact that the, now I'm not saying I think people should have gatherings of massive amounts, I think people need to be responsible. But I think it's silly that, but let them be adults and determine what that looks like. What a night, could you imagine the nightmare
Starting point is 00:29:15 that would have created if the police and sheriffs actually enforced it? Could you imagine? Well, yeah, that would just, that would cause a lot of it. You're putting a lot on them too to do that. Like, come on. be could you imagine? Well, yeah, that would just that would cause you're putting a lot on them to do that. Like, come on. And just imagine being a cop knocking on sorry guys. Yeah, Justin, wasn't it? weren't you telling me that there was a bunch of protests? Yeah, in Huntington Beach, there's a massive protest.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Oh, yeah, because of the 10 PM curfew or whatever. So they basically just turn that into some big parade and march and everything immediately at 10 o'clock. Oh my god, I was like, okay. It's a civil disobedience that's happening. Yeah, people are just, I think you gotta let people just make their choices right now. That's what I think. I think the more you push on on the more you're gonna get, that kinda stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Yeah, and I mean, it's real, and then people need to be responsible, and there's no denying that. But also, we're adults. Tritious're adults, like treat us like adults, not like little kids. Yeah, yeah, for us personally, Jessica and I, we're gonna isolate. We got a newborn, it's also flu season.
Starting point is 00:30:16 So we're being pretty smart. My family is now scattered. So normally you'd have 40 or 50 people together. And so now what my family's done is the people from each, like the San Jose people are gonna be over here, the Sacramento people will be over there. And so people are kind of smaller parties. But for Jessica and I, we're just gonna be at home,
Starting point is 00:30:34 just me, her and the baby. Are you guys meeting with small groups? No, I'm with, I got, so we're 15 deep, which, but that's small for us too though, right? So we normally have, I reckon the law there. Yeah, I know. I know. And two of the 15 have had COVID already. So you can take them off and they're in here.
Starting point is 00:30:51 And then two others will be had just got their test, I think yesterday, because they just came, got, they were sick. And so they got tested, they were negative. So yeah, we've got four, four of the 15 is pretty much, there no risk and then the other ones are like her mom or her like all people isolated well just people that we we already see on a regular basis like so her her family We we continue to we've seen for sense. I mean there was an initial wave where everybody was like super isolated and locked up Then once everybody started to relax a little bit We started to see like our immediate close family that would all live in the same town and all interact. So most of them, we don't have any like,
Starting point is 00:31:29 Aunt coming in from some other city or somebody like New York. There's nobody that will be at Thanksgiving that I haven't been around in the last two weeks. So it's, I mean, it's all people that we see. Yeah, I'm just going to hang out with Courtney's parents and then her sister, that's it. So yeah, we're having kind of a small thing.
Starting point is 00:31:45 And then the next day I'll see my parents and then my brother. So that's as much as I can. Yeah, I think, you know, every winter, we do see a spike in illness, no matter what, you forget COVID, right? You'll still see cold and flu season go up. And it's largely due to the fact that people
Starting point is 00:32:01 start to gather in big groups, but also low-vitam and D levels. There's no sun. And they definitely are showing that with COVID, low-vitam and D increases your risk for having severe symptoms. So it's a good idea to make sure your vitamin D levels are good and then zinc is the other one. Doug, I wanted to ask you.
Starting point is 00:32:21 I know that KC marketing science and what that sent over an email about like we're gathering a bunch of testimonials right now. Yes. What's going on with that? Like where do people go? Can you give me the whole low down? Right. I don't know all the details, but what they're doing is they're collecting testimonials, the people who've gone through maps programs.
Starting point is 00:32:41 And if you go to this page, it's mimepumpmedia.com forward slash MFP-testimonial. You can also find that link at the minepumppodcast.com site. That's where our show notes is. You'll be taken to a page. And then that page, you just need to include some information there. There's some questions to fill out. And then they're also asking for a video. So Again, if you do this you have a chance actually to be on this show So that's the incentive here. So share share your testimonial and the best ones will be chosen and Somebody will be on the show awesome. Yeah, good time speaking of maps The black Friday sales on now, right? Yeah, yeah. So if you're listening, the whole now, here's your chance.
Starting point is 00:33:30 It is, if you've been waiting to follow one of our maps programs, or you've been waiting to sign up for one of the maps programs you've been interested in, like one of the newer ones, like maps, powerlif, for example, all individual programs are 65% off. So every year, the biggest sale of a year by far. Sweet babies. Is black Friday, so 65% off. And then bundles are the,
Starting point is 00:33:52 where we take the multiple programs and put them together. Discount. Those are already discounted, typically 30% off. You can take an additional 50% off of those programs. And the two codes are for the 65 percent off, BF maps, and then for the bundles is BF bundles. Those are at maps fitness products dot com. So I think we're probably going to see a lot of more popularity with our at home programs. It'd be quite honest. I think a lot of gyms are still speaking of at home. Totally.
Starting point is 00:34:22 That you guys see too. Our flags were almost sold out already too, so we did the garage flags right I kind of had a feeling because yeah I got a lot of messages from people for us to do that and I think it's a cool idea because I wanted one from our own home gym Yeah, and to just rock you know like a cool mine pump flags. I can't wait I forgot I can't wait for God to bring some up to Tahoe when we went on That was I'll go back up so I'll so I'll bring some with us, but yeah, no. I want to get one for my garage. Oh, yeah, you better hurry in. You guys go, we've got to represent.
Starting point is 00:34:50 You guys want him for your place, you better hurry in. Speaking of garage, I did a workout over the weekend. I think you guys did one similar to this. You ever do this where you set something in your head, like I'm going to do this many sets and this many reps. And then you get halfway through and you're like, damn, that was a lofty goal, but now I have to do it. This happened to me on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:35:10 So I'm getting back into squats. I've been for a long time, been working on unilateral and mobility and stuff. So I'm getting back and squats for me, nothing blows my legs up like squats and they work really, really well. So I'm excited to get back into them. So now this is like week three or four of me squatting again
Starting point is 00:35:25 So I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna do I'm just gonna put two 25 on the bar and do 10 reps That's moderate intensity for me. So I did 10 sets of 10 reps one minute rest in between oh and That's seven or so of those that's crazy. Oh, dude by the time so first set one. I'm like like easy Yeah, set two is a bag for yeah first four move pretty I have five to six and I'm like this is this is not gonna I don't know yeah, so I'm setting the safety's up. You know something I'm at the fail your music progressively get more intense I like I that's usually high at that point. I couldn't I didn't even check the music because I'm just sitting there You know rest and whatever. Yeah, so I did it. I did 10 sets and you know because I'm just sitting there, you know, resting or whatever. So I did it, I did 10 sets and, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:08 I'm surprised, I'm not, that's, no, I'm not that sore. And that would mess me up right now. Dude, I swore to God, my legs grew. I swore to God like a quarter inch to, they blow up with squats. I don't know what it is about squats, but it's just crazy. They're swollen, bro.
Starting point is 00:36:21 They're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're in flame. Yeah, I think they grew like two inches. No, brother, in flame, They're swollen, bro. They're like, they're like, they're like, they're like, they grew like two inches. No, brother and flame. They're swollen right now. It's like, he's nice. Dude, I was gonna fall up. I brought up the other day that there was like a people filming outside my house, so I did some investigation.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Oh, you found out what it was? Yes, an investigation. An adult film. Yeah, it was totally important. It wasn't important. It was, I guess it's a movie. I don't know if it's coming out on Netflix or one of those type of like Amazon or whatever,
Starting point is 00:36:50 you know, streaming service, but it's with Channing Tatum. It's so he's starring. Better not tell your wife, bro. Called the dog. Oh, I did. I was like, oh, your guy. She's out there.
Starting point is 00:37:01 I just put a track in my son. I just went by and like played some, like, you know some dance music just to see, you know, set him off. That's Jessica's guy too. Yeah, I like it when she actually doesn't like it. She thinks he dances a lot. Jessica doesn't say anymore when there's a guy that she thinks is hot. So it's like, do you want to watch this movie? Or is she just rewinded?
Starting point is 00:37:21 Oh, this is interesting. No, she's very subtle. Like, she's really smart with the psychological shit. She's like, hey, you want to watch a movie tonight? And I'll be like, yeah, sure, and I'll be like, wait a minute. No, it's Thor, dude. Yes, if Thor was ever making a movie like near me, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Chris, no, here's my wife. You don't even call her a real name. Just call her Thor. No, it's just Thor, dude. Like, he's earned it. Is that what Chris, Chris Hensworth? Helmsworth? Helmsworth, yeah. He's not bad. I miss those elves. Yeah. He's a Thorne, he's earned it. Is it what Chris Hensworth, Hensworth? Yeah, he's not bad.
Starting point is 00:37:46 I missed those elves. Yeah, he's a handsome guy. Hey, speaking of shows, I watched Wayne on Amazon Prime. Oh, oh, oh, oh, good, tell me what do you think? Great show. I knew you were going to win. I'm on episode eight, I think. Have you guys gotten pretty far?
Starting point is 00:38:00 So, how about the home depot scene? How crazy is that? The home depot hustle. Dude, I love it. Don't you go to a home stand? That's gotta be, somebody does Depot hustle. Dude, I love it. Don't you go to a messed up? That's gotta be somebody does that bullshit. Dude, what a piece of dirt. People do that.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Yeah, what a scumbag. Oh, you know somebody does that bullshit. The casting and the writing for that, all the characters are flawed and but all likable. Even the bad characters, even the assholes. Yeah. They make them like in a way that you still like them. I knew you guys all would like it.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Yeah, great. Well, I can't believe I missed, you know, that like him. I knew you guys all would like him. Yeah, great. Well, I can't believe I missed, you know, that's 2019. It's been out for over a year. Oh, I love it. You know, my favorite part is when he turns on like punk music and they start dancing all weird, like flopping like a fish. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:36 I like this guy. The Boston accent cracks me up too. Oh, yeah, no, good show. Yeah, great. That's it, much watch. Great show and then comedy. There's Jim Gaffkin, what's his name? The comedian stand up. Oh, I think his name, right? Did he put up a, yeah. Jim Gaffkin. What's his name? The comedian stand up
Starting point is 00:38:45 Oh, I think he put up a yeah on Amazon. So it's in his house small audience everyone's wearing a mask He had some funny COVID jokes to open with he did But you don't hear the audience laughing is loud because it's only like they're all mass 20 30 people and then with the mask You can't see their facial expressions So it throws it off a little bit. Yeah, but I don't blame him for trying Well, I'm glad that yeah, somebody's at least trying to to make it like you know like at least it's like a stepping stone back towards Maybe they can start doing that more. I was thinking to myself what would have been smarter would have been to put everybody in a box With see through plastic walls because as someone watching I'm realizing when you're watching comedy
Starting point is 00:39:40 You want to see and hear other people? Yeah, you need the reaction. Yes Yeah, the comedian feeds off that too, because it's like, you know, they know how to like, you know, put more emphasis on things based on how they react, all that stuff. Yeah. We went snowboarding this weekend too, and they were, they police that a lot more than I thought they were going to. How do they police that? Well, just every time somebody was in line, they actually had people working that were
Starting point is 00:40:01 walking the lines and making sure your face shield was up. Oh wow. Yeah. They want to stay open, so I don't blame you. Yeah. Yeah, no, and I was whatever. I'm fine with that. I'm gonna problem with that.
Starting point is 00:40:11 But I just thought, you know, you're outside and everybody's kind of doing their thing that they're gonna do. It's hard to breathe, dude, because even you're an altitude and then you just like haven't done all these moves. Like so, I was, this is the first time we took the kids because they've had lessons before that.
Starting point is 00:40:24 This is the first time we took them like because they've had lessons before that. This is the first time we took them on the slopes, just with me and Courtney, and we were having quite a time for a bit, especially with Everett, but I learned I have to physically hold him in place, and then he gets it, once he gets the feel of it, and then he was great the whole rest of the day, the beginning was rough,
Starting point is 00:40:43 but Ethan just took off. He just was all about it and wanted to go to the intermediate run. I took him up on this intermediate run and we're up there and we start going down and he's doing great. Everything's working out, but then we get to a point where I'm like, okay, we gotta go on this side of the trail because it's the easier side or there's a black diamond. And he's like, I wanna go on this one.
Starting point is 00:41:04 And then he just, I'm like, no, I don't know if that's a good idea, pal. And then boom, he just goes down. Oh, shit. Yeah, he goes down. And I'm like following him, you know, on a snowboard. So it's hard for me to like stop and like, you know, adjust and wait. And like, he, so he's like flipping over. It gets his legs are all in different directions.
Starting point is 00:41:20 He's kind of laying there. And there's like, oh, he's trying to pick himself back up. But he gets back up. And then, and then I'm like, oh, he's trying to pick himself back up, but he gets back up. And then, and then I'm like, oh, you all right, everything cool. And then he gets up and just bombs it straight down, like doing pizza all the way down, like all kinds of speed.
Starting point is 00:41:36 And I'm like, no! No! Just praying he's gonna be okay. And he just, he made it out. Wow. I was like, where did all this daredevil stuff come from. That's great. That's the oldest, right?
Starting point is 00:41:47 So, every it's the one who's normally the one that's a little more fearless. And then he would, you had a little more trouble with, right? He was a little scared when he first got out. He was scared at first, but I mean, he's really young. And so, yeah, he took a little more coaxing, you know, to get him to the place, but he picked it up. Well, you got to tell him what happened on the lift, dude,
Starting point is 00:42:03 because he got one of those. Oh, yeah, I forgot. So, when we were going up, you got to tell him what happened on the lift, dude, because he got one of those. Oh, yeah, I forgot. So when we were going up with Ethan too, this was another sort of lump against the whole thing. We're getting off of the ski lift. And so at the very end, there's even signs for this. Everybody knows to do this. You got to bring those ski tips up.
Starting point is 00:42:20 And so I was talking to him, okay, and I took the safety bar off, and we're just kind of like going to the front there, and like just right before we get there, he drops his skis down. Do they get stuck? You know they get hooked? Get hooked.
Starting point is 00:42:33 It flops him forward. So he goes forward on his face and on his stomach, and like I get off, and I'm like, oh shit. And like I saw, he didn't go all the way down. He was kind of halfway up, and then the chair was gonna come like just totally like smashing into him. So I jump over and I reach for him
Starting point is 00:42:50 and I like smash him into the ground. So like went right over his head. And then he gets up, he pops one ski out, right? And this is more of an advancement. So there's like everybody there isn't beginners and they're all like, know, like waiting for us. And so, I just like grab him and I like throw him to the side and his skis under there,
Starting point is 00:43:09 and I grab that next and try to like assemble it all back. And I'm like, oh my God, he's never gonna do this again. And he's like, that was nothing. He's like, oh, woo, that was, you know, crazy. I'm like, oh my God. But I don't know if you've ever seen someone that's like, that if there's a, so when your, your, your steas get your,
Starting point is 00:43:28 so we just stuck in the snow. Well, no, no, look at this. When you, when you're on the chairlift, and you're getting ready to come off the chairlift, there is a little mound, right? And then you, you drop off and you, it's, so what he did was he let his keys drop below the mound before you're even off the chair.
Starting point is 00:43:44 So they hooked the mound, which throws you forward. And then you fall face forward. You see at least once every time I ski, I see one person do this where they hook it. They fall off. And then you're like, you're sitting up and then the chair comes back soon the back of the head. I mean, when it's not you, it's the funniest shit ever you ever watch. Unless it's like your son that's pretty too.
Starting point is 00:44:04 So, but just to have the awareness to go jumping over there and then shove his face in the suit. You guys ever watched that video? I don't know where it happened, but the ski lift went super fast, and people were stuck on it. Did you ever see this? No.
Starting point is 00:44:16 And they were getting flung off. I see what? You never saw this? It was going hella fast, but this is not, okay, it's funny, but it's not. People were, it must've been the most scary thing ever. Bro, they were getting thrown off and people were getting smashed by the chair
Starting point is 00:44:28 and the machine wouldn't stop. What? You never saw this video? No, I never saw that. Terrifying. I told you about the one time when I was at the theme park. I think it was in Wisconsin, I was at like a great America there.
Starting point is 00:44:39 And the ride itself, like, had stopped and I was upside down. And I was upside down for 20 minutes before they could finally get everybody off or turn the ride back on. And so I'm there with this girl, I got a date and I'm upside down. And we had made the mistake, obviously big mistake
Starting point is 00:44:59 of bringing vodka with us. Right? And so we had poured it in one of those like frozen lemonade slushies and I drank that like right before I got on that ride. I was like yacking upside down. Look at, look at, look at, look at. Oh shit.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Watch, you know what's so funny? I totally see Sal, because last time we were all together last year and we were gonna go skiing and everything like that and he was like, I could see your ass. Look at, look at, oh shit. No, this is no joke and it wouldn't stop. Whoa. It just kept going and people are trying to,
Starting point is 00:45:28 look at this. Dude, imagine. Look, wow. Oh. I'm telling you, dude. That is not good. This is no, it's no joke and it just wouldn't stop. There's another video of another place at this app.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Where's the emergency shut off? That's crazy. Yeah, look, people are, people are failing out there. Look at the smart people that bailed early. Yeah. Well, yeah, dude, you're gonna get pulled into that, look's crazy. Yeah, look people are jump people are failing out there. Look at the smart people that bail early. Yeah Well, yeah, dude you're gonna get pulled into that. Look at it Yeah, like jump just jump off of it man. I get the off button you asshole. Wow look at that. Wow Yeah, so there you go reason number 75 while I don't I will not go I totally you're not saying I was nine times as I that like set, we were all gonna go skiing last year and
Starting point is 00:46:05 tell us like, let me Google see how dangerous it is. It's like the worst thing ever happened. Look at how it will disap mean. What's the worst thing ever? Avalanche. Starting point is 00:46:50 If you have food intolerances, do you still derive the nutritional value from those foods? Oh, that's a good question. Yeah, it's kind of a general question, but I can say with pretty good confidence that no, not necessarily, for a few different reasons, right? So when you have a food that your body reacts to, you do get an immune response,
Starting point is 00:47:12 which changes hormones a little bit, causes more inflammation, may reduce your ability to absorb and utilize nutrients. And also when you have this kind of elevated, low level immune response in the body, it does make it harder for you to do things like build muscle and burn body fat. So, from that standpoint, you definitely want to avoid
Starting point is 00:47:36 food intolerances. This is one of the reasons why, just counting calories and macros, isn't really everything. There's a lot more in the details and your body is so unique that how you react to the food also can play a role. For example, and I'll use an extreme example, right? Like dairy, I don't have a dairy allergy, but I have a pretty bad intolerance to dairy.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Just and on the other hand, he can drink all the dairy. He can drink and bathe in it, and he's probably okay. And the dairy queen. And so let's say he drinks half a gallon of milk, and I drink a half a gallon of milk. Am I going to get the same effect from the protein, the carbs, and the fats that he will? No, I highly doubt it. I think it's gonna cause a lot of inflammation, reduce my body's ability to absorb things, I'll get gastro issues,
Starting point is 00:48:29 and I'm not gonna get the great results. So, some you should definitely pay attention to. I think this is an interesting question though, because I also think of it as a new world problem. You know, like in terms of like if there's food out there and I'm starving and I'm trying to get some food and that's like, you're trying to say, you can't get any nutritional value
Starting point is 00:48:48 from something that's gonna make your tummy a little upset. I mean, but at the same time, let's say it gives you diarrhea and let's say that's something you get super dehydrated. And now that's a problem, you're gonna be battling out in the wild too. So, I don't know, man, I guess it just depends, but obviously over time,
Starting point is 00:49:04 we're talking about something that you're gonna be constantly eating all the time. So that's in terms of frequency, that could have more detriment to you than just getting it for the new choice. Well, along those lines, okay, diarrhea, gastroall issues, constipation, or big, would've caused big problems for people.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Sure, yeah. Could lead to death back in the day. Oh, diarrhea is a leading cause of death in third world countries, for sure. Lots of people die from diarrhea all the time. What's that show where they put them in the Arctic? Remember I lied? No, what was it called?
Starting point is 00:49:38 Oh, yeah, alone. Alone. Remember that girl who she was doing great, but she got so constipated that she had to leave because she couldn't. So food intolerances are no joke, but that's the extreme. Like let's forget the extreme. Let's just say you get bloated
Starting point is 00:49:52 or you get a little bit of gastroiasis or a little bit of inflammation. And it's probably a small effect, but cumulative, over the years, are you gonna get the same benefit as if you were eating foods that your your body was you know worked well with? No, I don't think so. No, probably not. All right next question is from the bad mad scientist When I wake up I feel very stiff and immobile and it takes me a while to regain my natural mobility Welcome to the club. What can I do?
Starting point is 00:50:21 What can I do before during and after I sleep to help me wake up and move better? A couple of 13-year-olds. Well, mine was like legit. This guy over here with the other direction. I don't know. Are you guys mind-time? Yeah. I got a remedy for feeling stiff. So here's a deal. All right. Let's get serious. So number one, your studies will show this. If your sleep is not optimal, you will wake up with more inflammation and pain. So make sure you sleep well. Have a sleep routine where a couple hours before bed, you prepare by turning down the lights
Starting point is 00:50:57 and you can relax. Make sure you have a good environment for sleep. The right temperature helps quite a bit. I know when I use the chili pad, for example, I wake up less stiff in the morning, then when I don't use it, inflammatory diet, that kind of stuff can also play a role and how comfortable your bed is.
Starting point is 00:51:16 If you've ever slept on a bad bed, you know what a difference that makes when you wake up in the morning. But let's say that you forget all that and you still wake up stiff in a mobile. Yeah, you definitely can wake up and stretch and do five minutes of mobility. Well, I've noticed this just myself in terms of changing up my workout routine, made a massive difference.
Starting point is 00:51:34 And I didn't realize just doing my normal barbell training, I had to step away from that for a bit and work a little bit more on unilateral kind of training and give my joints some time to work on stability again. And that really helped because I would wake up in the morning, stiff like my hips would hurt, like my shoulder would be achy. And it wasn't until I sort of started changing up my workout routine where that sort of got alleviated again and then I could come back to it. So this is similar to what happens to me if I get like a lift in and then I go for like a
Starting point is 00:52:09 three hour plus drive too, where you're just in a fixed position after you've trained really hard. So, you know, and I know this now, right? So I know if I go like heavy squats and then I got a drive, three hours, what about that? If I just ignore doing some mobility work before I get in that car, I'm gonna pay for it. About an hour and a half into two hours in,
Starting point is 00:52:28 you're gonna see me rocking forward in the driver's seat because my low back is all tight, you're gonna see me shifting around because my feels like someone's stabbing the side of my hip, my IT's on fire. So if I don't do it, but if I get down and I go, okay, I know I gotta drive three and a half hours or more, if I get down and I do some 90, 90 mobility work before, it's a night and day difference.
Starting point is 00:52:49 The same thing goes, for before I go to bed, I know if I train, like heavy squats or dead lifts, if I do not do some foam rolling or some mobility work before I go to bed, I know I'll wake up and I'll pay for it. And that's gonna be different for everybody. For me, it's low back and hips. Like, that's the big difference. I don't really wake up with tight shoulder issues or upper back stuff.
Starting point is 00:53:12 It's always in my hips. It's either my IT or my low back, which is all hip complex stuff related, which is all 90-90 for me. So if I get down, before I go to bed, and I do some 90-90 drills before I get into bed, I wake up totally different than if I just ignore that, and I know I train hard and I go to sleep than I do some 90, 90 drills before I get into bed, I wake up totally different than if I just ignore that and I know I train hard and I go to sleep than I'm paying for it.
Starting point is 00:53:29 You know, I also use that feeling of waking up and feeling stiff as a very effective sign of overreaching. Well, or just mobility issues in general. Like, I may not notice during the day when I'm working out that my back bothers me, but if I go to bed and notice when I wake up, I gotta crunch a little bit before I sit up or I gotta roll differently to sit up and then my back's a little stiff
Starting point is 00:53:53 and then it feels better, that's kind of an early sign to me. Okay, I'm lacking a little bit of course stability. I'm only noticing it right now when I wake up from sleep, but if I don't answer it now, if I don't fix it now, then it's gonna start turning into problems when I'm awake during the day and when I work out. So oftentimes you can use this as a little bit of a early, like a canary in the coal mine.
Starting point is 00:54:15 Indicator. Yeah, here's another thing too. You can go to, you can have anti-inflammatory natural foods right before bed and this may actually make a difference. So I like turmeric is a great food you could take before bad. Organifies gold juice, has lots of turmeric and anti-inflammatory herbs and plants in it
Starting point is 00:54:37 that you can drink before bad. That helps for calming you down too. Corming great. Yes, so those things make a difference. Braumelin, Braumellin is an enzyme that if you take on an empty stomach, so if you take it with protein or with food, it's an enzyme that breaks down, I believe proteins, but if you take it on an empty stomach,
Starting point is 00:54:55 Braumlin has quite a remarkable anti-inflammatory effect. So if you, you know, let's say you ate at eight, you know, seven pm for dinner, but you had about 10, that's three hours, empty stomach, take, you know, some Braumlin ate at eight, you know, seven p.m. for dinner, but you go to bed at 10. That's three hours, empty stomach, take, you know, some brawmlin, go to bed, see if that makes sense. Yeah, that one was trippy. Like I remember I had talked to you about that,
Starting point is 00:55:13 then one of my clients had really swollen knees, like constantly, and supplemented with brawmlin, made a big difference, and it's natural. It's from pineapple, right? It's remarkable how effective it is as a natural anti-inflammatory. But yeah, you can do those things too, and they're natural, so they're not like, you know, NSAIDs or aspirin, where they have those types of side effects, they're usually pretty safe.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Next question is from Mike Helm 7. I'm bulking, but I feel like I'm getting fat. Help! Sound like sell. Yeah, it's the sell right now. But does it look like sell? Maybe, because he says getting fat. No, I think this is really such a fine dance, right? When you are trying to put weight on or put size on
Starting point is 00:55:54 is you know, you need to eat in a calorie surplus. But I think that it took me a very, very long time before I got comfortable with how little of a surplus I needed in order to bulk and put size. Totally. Because the whole, I mean, nothing is more frustrating for the skinny guy or girl who's trying to build muscle
Starting point is 00:56:14 and is, you know, pushing the calories and lifting every day and then they wake up one morning and they're lighter than the scale is lighter than what it was two days ago. Or are they getting like a pound in a month? Yeah. And so that really messed with my head for a very long time when I was trying to bolt. And so I was always just over stuffing and over feeding during the bolt.
Starting point is 00:56:34 And then I would just put on way too much body fat. So you know, you just gotta be, if you have good programming, so if you're following a maps program and you're eating even in this, the slightest bit of a surplus, I promise you, you're bulking, you're probably putting muscle on and if you're not seeing the scale move, that's okay. There's probably a very nice exchange, you're probably even leaning out a little bit and
Starting point is 00:56:55 then you're also adding a little bit of muscle. Do not let yourself get caught up in what the scale is reading if you're doing, if you got good programming and you're eating in a simple way. Are you getting stronger? That's the best indicator. Yeah, getting stronger is a great one. It's not completely foolproof because sometimes getting fatter changes your leverage
Starting point is 00:57:14 and it does make you a little strong. Like my squat will go up if I gain body fat for some reason. I just can squat more weight. But look at general, am I stronger in all my lifts? If there's a yes there, that's positive. Like Adam said, have a good workout. You can be in a calorie surface, surplus, have a great diet. If your workouts not stimulating muscle, you ain't going to gain muscle. You're just going to gain body fat, maps endabolic, and maps strong. In my opinion, the two best
Starting point is 00:57:41 bulking muscle building programs, generally speaking. So if you're looking for a good program, aesthetic. Esthetic can be great too, a little more advanced though, right? Right, right. But for the average person, say, anabolic or strong would do it. Esthetic great if you're experiencing. I mean, no matter what, I don't care how experienced you are.
Starting point is 00:57:56 I would go anabolic first, and then either to stronger or aesthetic as the second program, and then the other one for the third program. And then as far as surplus is concerned, you don't need a whole, you don't need a massive surplus to gain muscle. How many, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look except for maybe a beginner with decent muscle building genetics. But let's just say for hypothetical reasons,
Starting point is 00:58:25 you could gain a pound of lean body mass. How many calories and grams of protein and carbs and fats do you think it really would take your body to gain that pound of muscle? It's not much at all. It's like 50 extra calories a day or last or something like that. So you don't need the huge surplus. So if you're getting fat, you're probably eating too much, and I would look at your workout.
Starting point is 00:58:46 If you fix those two things, then you'll fix this problem. Next question is from Adam Pullman Fit. How has incorporating and vocalizing your personal opinions and details about your lives positively or negatively affected the brand, business, and your personal lives? You guys remember Adam, right? Adam was, I think it was Colorado where he came out
Starting point is 00:59:06 to the live event, tall, tall, good-looking fit guy. He has his own podcast. He's probably interviewed both you and you don't even remember. Yeah, I do recognize his name. Yeah, I know it. Yeah, yeah, so he's no. Yes, thick guy.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Sorry. He's full of shit over there. Yeah. Yeah. I'm, so he's got, he's got, he's got, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's got a, he's on video's on video you can see his face. You can see if I saw his face. I know
Starting point is 00:59:28 No, I'm saying like I'm saying your your face is on camera So it's like so it's very obvious. I mean, I might be calling it out But he looks confused as shit as he says Hey, I totally remembered and Justin doesn't remember the tall handsome guys like you do That's the problem. It's fixating. Yeah, he was next to that attractive girl. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:49 Oh yeah. Remember now. Remember now. You know what? I have some very strong opinions about this because I think times have changed a lot when it comes to this. In the past, I think it's safe to say it was not a smart idea for anybody in media to talk about their personal opinions
Starting point is 01:00:06 on a lot of different things. In fact, PR agencies used to tell celebrities all the time, do not talk about politics, do not talk about personal opinions, don't do any of that stuff, just stay general because it could screw you one way or the other. These days, with a cancel culture,
Starting point is 01:00:23 it's a little bit different, okay? If you say the wrong thing, or or you do the wrong thing or you act in a way that whatever pisses off the mob, they could literally destroy your career. Now, my opinion, and I think you guys will agree with me, and even if this wasn't true, we do it anyway, because that's another part to this, but in my opinion, if you build your business saying what you're gonna say and being who you're gonna be, then you're somewhat protected of that in the future. Because if something happens and something comes out and they're like, oh, Sal said this about politics, people are like, he's been saying that for...
Starting point is 01:00:53 Yeah, since day one. So I'd be consistent. Yeah, and oh, you know, Adam was seen drinking a diet coke. I thought he was, yeah, he talks about that all the time. It's not a big deal. I think if you're gonna build a business in new media, then you need to be somewhat authentic and real because at some point, someone's gonna see something
Starting point is 01:01:11 or whatever, they're gonna come after you, maybe. And if they do, what are you gonna do? Come after me. I've been this way since day one, I've been honest since day one. So I think that somewhat protects you. Yeah, I think these days it's just different. Like the days of portraying yourself in a certain light
Starting point is 01:01:28 and having the Lambo behind you and whatever, like staple of success looks like, I think those days are, it doesn't do as well as it used to. I know it still does well for some of these guys out there that can kind of portray themselves like that, but I just feel in terms of a long-term strategy to get as close to your authentic self as possible.
Starting point is 01:01:50 I mean, it is what it is. Like, you either like me or you don't at a certain point. I think we've been getting slowly more comfortable with the fact of like, this is who I really am. And so like, I don't really know how to be anything else. And I think people appreciate that at the end of the day. Well, I think this is, I actually think this is necessary, right? Because at one point, if you try and, you know,
Starting point is 01:02:12 only talk about the things that you think that everybody wants to hear about, and you're not being your authentic self and you're holding back your opinions and your values and your views, then you, and let's say you actually build a successful business, then you've got to get up every day and you've got to be this person that isn't completely you. And so even if it's doing well financially and it's growing, you don't get to be yourself,
Starting point is 01:02:33 I promise you that that'll be short-lived. And you know what, in the past, Adam, that there was a buffer between you and people who watched you on TV or whatever, there's no more buffer. Yeah. So you're screwed, exactly. So then you've got to get on your or whatever, there's no more buffer. So you're screwed exactly. So then you gotta get on your social media everyday and pretend to be this character that you really are not. And you know, this was a conversation
Starting point is 01:02:52 that we all agreed very early on. It's like we're gonna be raw and real in ourselves. And here's a deal with what's neat and why I think this is important today and you definitely can still get away even with cancel culture. Is there is a very good chance there's a million people out there at least in the internet that are just like you.
Starting point is 01:03:11 That think like you, that similar and age, similar and values and views. So don't be afraid of the other hundred million that are totally not like you. You don't care. Your goal is to find those million people that, and you don't even need a million, but I'm just throwing that out there. Well, let them find you. Yeah, or yeah, exactly. Be yourself and continue to be yourself.
Starting point is 01:03:30 And then eventually, they, your tribe of people that are wanting the information that you have or the value that you have to provide, we'll, we'll seek you out. And then what's great about that is you don't have to constantly be apologizing for the way you do things. I mean, I, I think that was one of the things like Sal was alluding to that really, I think saved our ass. I mean, we came out so over that our personalities over the top on the beginning. We throttled hard.
Starting point is 01:03:55 Yeah. If anything, we've kind of backed off a little bit. And so we wanted to make sure, okay, our core audience is definitely, they've got just as dark of a sense in what we do. They're okay with profanity, they're all those things, otherwise you wouldn't have been paying attention to us. And so we don't have to deal with a lot of that bullshit. Yeah, and the truth is that it's not gonna guarantee you success,
Starting point is 01:04:14 it might hurt your business, but so what? Then you're not in that situation where you're either acting fake or vulnerable. That's the thing that you gotta be careful with is you can make yourself very vulnerable. I was talking about Kevin Hart earlier in the episode about his comedy thing. And he said how he had announced that he was
Starting point is 01:04:34 gonna go plant-based. And then a couple days later, he was eating a Big Mac. And some lady with a cell phone took a picture of him. Ah, I got you. And then he's like, oh man, now I gotta apologize all these people or whatever. And so that's the world we live in. There's cameras everywhere. People all around you. It's not going to guarantee success. It might hurt you who knows. But at the end of the day,
Starting point is 01:04:54 in my opinion, there's only one way to be successful through media. And that is to be authentic. That's the only way I can do it. I don't want to walk around looking over my shoulder. I am not the kind of person who's going to apologize to the mob that I don't even fucking know. I don't want to walk around looking over my shoulder. I am not the kind of person who's gonna apologize to the mob that I don't even fucking know. I don't even know who you are. I'm gonna apologize for some. So I'm just gonna be who I am and then, if someone gets mad, I know there's gonna be,
Starting point is 01:05:14 you know, 10,000 other people and be like, oh, he said that like 15 of the times, like you're idiot for getting mad, that's just who he is.
