Starting point is 00:00:00 If you want to pump your body and expand your mind, there's only one place to go. MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, with your hosts. Salda Stefano, Adam Schaefer, and Justin Andrews. You just found the world's number one fitness health and entertainment podcast. You guessed that this is Mind Pump. Alright, in today's episode, we answered some fitness and health questions, but the way we open the episodes with an intro, this is where we talk about new exercises
Starting point is 00:00:27 and scientific studies, and we talk about our sponsors. Today's intro was 54 minutes, after that, we got to the fitness question. So here's what went down in today's episode. We opened up, I talked about a new exercise that none of us have ever tried. Actually, I'm the only one that's ever tried it. It's an old exercise that was promoted by Vince Garanda.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Kind of cool. Then we talked about top golf. We all went to play top golf and you'll never get me at least. We immediately forgot about it. You'll never guess who won first place on that one. Then we talked about the Jake Paul fight. This guy's turning out to be a brilliant promoter.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Then we talked about the Israel study on natural immunity from COVID. And this is getting a lot of people up in arms. Very, very interesting study, although duh, this is how a lot of things work out when it comes to immunity. Then we talked about the plastic barriers that you see at grocery stores and banks and stuff like that to prevent your spit from hitting other people and prevent them from getting sick. Turns out they don't work and they actually make things worse. Then we talked about a new company called Jane Technologies, like the Shopify for cannabis consumption, very interesting.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Then we talked about the world record for strict curl, even though they competed in this, but somebody did it. Somebody's watching. I'm out of weight. Then we talked about the untold story, as is a show on Netflix, and they talked about Bruce Jenner, which is very interesting. Then we talked about Peloton getting subpoenaed by Congress, uh-oh, stock prices tanked.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Yikes. Then we brought up the mere products. One of my favorites, by the way, is their insulated cup I used to work out with, and you can find them on the Mind Pump store, but you can also go on their website, mere.com-forward-slash-mind-pump. That's M-I-I-R.com-forward-slash-mind-pump. Use the code MindPumpMedia for 25% off.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Then we talked about some of the fads that were around when we were in school way back in the day. Then we talked about squatters, no, not the exercise, but the jerks that stay in houses and don't pay. We talked about Joe Rogan's Spotify deal, and then finally we mentioned our Labor Day sale going on tomorrow. Go to mindpumpstore.com to check that out. Oh yeah, by the way, pick up some gear. Adam did his first workout since surviving the Bat Soup disease, so good for him.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Then we got to the questions. Here's the first one. This person wants to know if there's any exercises that will make your biceps thicker. So he actually wants width in the biceps, not necessarily peak. Don't do it, Justin. Then the next question, this person wants to know the pros and cons for mass gainers or weight gainers. The third question, this person wants to know if they should do behind the neck pulldowns
Starting point is 00:03:04 or overhead presses. And then the final question, if you had to quit drinking alcohol or using cannabis, which one would it be? Heated debate. Also, all month long, two programs are 50% off. One is great for athletic performance and for building a functional aesthetic body. The other one is great for building stability, building muscle with minimal equipment. So maps, performance and maps suspension, both 50% off,
Starting point is 00:03:32 go check them out, head over to maps fitnessproducts.com, just use the code September 50, that's September 50, with no space for that discount. We've been working out for a long time. We've been training people forever. When's the last time you did an exercise you've never really done before? And you came out of it. You made an example, because I'm pretty sure I've done everything. I'm pretty sure he can't give you an example of something you haven't done.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I bet I can. Okay, well I got one. I don't know, he's sad. He's the one that you've done that you have been doing a long time. Oh no. We just can answer that.'ve done that you haven't done about it. Oh no. We just can answer that. Well, no, what I mean is, that's pretty rare
Starting point is 00:04:09 at this point, right? It's pretty rare. You find an exercise that you never, the last time I had. That you never did and then you do it and you're like, right, so the last exercise that I can recall, and we actually, I don't know if I mentioned that this was in that category, but no.
Starting point is 00:04:23 No. I'll see you to got me there. Believe it or not. Believe it or not, I have done everything for the calves as possible. I know, I just can't. No, we brought this up on the show the other day about, I don't remember what the question was,
Starting point is 00:04:37 but we talked about hand cleans. Hand cleans to a press was something that I recently introduced into my routine when I was competing. But that was years ago. Yeah, but I hadn't done that before that really. And then became a staple. It was actually I was working out with Justin. He got me to do them.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I saw the benefits from it felt the benefits from it right away. And then it became like a staple. Okay, so today, so you guys know who Vince Garanda was? So it's heard you say his name a bunch. So old school bodybuilder, probably, I wanna say one of the first kind of science-based bodybuilders, and a lot of the stuff he did and said
Starting point is 00:05:14 still stands true today, some of the stuff not so much, but some of it is pretty remarkable. So if you ever wanna go back and read and research old bodybuilders and lifters, he's very interesting, right? So anyway, before I came to go back and read and research old body builders and lifters. He's very interesting, right? So anyway, before I came to work this morning, I was reading article about Vince Garanda and he used to promote a specific chest exercise.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I've heard of before, never done, okay? And today I tried it. It's called the guillotine press. Have you guys ever done this? No. You're aware of it. Okay, so it's like a bench press, except you bring the bar to your collarbone or your neck.
Starting point is 00:05:49 So when you're benching, your elbows are way out here and you're bringing the bar way up here. And then here's a second part of it. That's interesting. You take your feet off the bench, something we, and so here's what's weird about this. Which is disclaimer on all this right now. Yes, this is not, please God, that's not popular.
Starting point is 00:06:05 No, this, just, don't do this. I was just gonna say, this is an exercise that you have to have good shoulder mobility and good stability to do. And like we've said before, no exercises are dangerous. Your lack of mobility or your lack of ability to get in. Okay, so give me, why is he promoting his legs up off the bench?
Starting point is 00:06:23 Okay, so, and this is the interesting part, right? So first off, bringing the barbell way up high where you're kind of almost at the neck activates the upper chest on a flat bench tremendously. In fact, after I read about this exercise, I was doing more reading. There was a study that was actually done, and I believe Brett Contreras was part of this study
Starting point is 00:06:42 where they looked at muscle activation and the guillotine press actually outperformed, inclined, outperformed, every other chest exercise. Interesting. Because of the way it lines up the muscle fiber. And it is on a flat bench. A flat. So you elbows have to be real high, you have to really pack the shoulder. Very body builder-esque type of a press.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Yes. I didn't know the name of it, but we used to play around with that. Really bringing the elbows out. Yeah, yeah. I didn't know the name of it But we used to to play around with that when we bring the elbows up. Yeah, yeah, I didn't I didn't elevate the legs though Right, so now here's why you do the legs if you're chest is high with that arch It that once that position makes you naturally want to bring your elbows down if you have this real high arch and you bring your elbows up It almost puts too much stress on the shoulders So when you bring your legs back with the elbows up high It's okay that you flatten out a little bit
Starting point is 00:07:27 It's still directly activates the chest. I know it sounds weird. It's interesting. But I did it this morning and just to give people some reference, because you gotta go light on this. And again, you have to have good stability, good mobility. I mean, if this feels weird, don't do it. It's good. We're not recommending it to about 95% of you. It's one of those exercises that puts a lot of things
Starting point is 00:07:42 and makes it vulnerable, right? So I did it and normally if I work out with the flat bench, I'm going to go maybe go like 225, right? Yeah. I only went up to 185. So that's how much lighter I was and I put my feet up on the bench and I flared my elbows out, brought down my neck. Oh my gosh, dude.
Starting point is 00:07:59 This exercise felt incredible. I could see though how if your form is off a little bit though This is not gonna be good. I thought of one just because you guys had both mentioned one and one Adam actually I'm circling back because you guys just Your laying down on your back and with the cable machine and you're doing like lateral raises, but, but crossman like, oh, good call back and like, come up. Great pump for your delts. Yeah, that was how I'm actually showed Doug that like. Yeah, that was, you know, who introduced that to me? Ben Pukolsky. Yeah. Ben Pukolsky introduced it to me when he came up. I think one of the first times he came here and him
Starting point is 00:08:43 and I got to work out at the, the Golds gym or back when it was golds and He got me to do that never seen anyone do that before locks you into position. Oh, I have no movement love it I'll say if I do if I if I'm obviously in our studio for sure 100% a little it's tougher in a more popular Yeah, yeah There's a lot of people so that you know what's on the absolutely in here if I if I'm gonna do a step on you. There's a lot of people, some of that. You don't know what's on the screen. But absolutely, in here, if I'm gonna do a cable ladder raise, this is the only way I do it now. I just, I feel like it locks you into position so well and you can't cheat it.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Well dude, I'm telling you, I was tripping off this key at Team Press because what I've been trying to do, I think it's to show me that layer. I think it's the, you know, now we've been doing this podcast for years and so it must be the years of just bullying you guys are doing with me over my chest, development. Anyway. It's the YouTube comments.
Starting point is 00:09:26 It's not the internet. Exactly. Anyway, you got your paradise lies. You're like, no, it finally got to me. That was a beast. Dude, he's got this huge, you know, just barrel chest. We don't need a lie. Yeah, a lie.
Starting point is 00:09:38 But anyway, no, I was just, just think, you know, I've been changing my form and going lighter and trying to connect. I think it's working. But, dude, I swear to God, this guillotine press is interesting. I'm going to start doing it. I felt more activation doing that than I have doing incline of our own presses. But, again, disclaimer, it puts your shoulders in a position that are precarious.
Starting point is 00:10:02 So, if you don't have, and I got decent, for some things shoulder mobility, I can compress really easily behind my neck, I could do pull-ups behind my neck, so it doesn't bother me. A lot of people, though, won't be able to do so. You don't need just because you never train chest and now you're just doing something for them.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Right. I just got the white suit and muscle cap coming. I put the white theater on, I'm like, everything that's showing, I'll work out. Everything that's covered, why? Yeah, why is it? I'm gonna walk out about. It's irrelevant.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Anyway, to make myself feel better, I'm gonna bring something up that I said I wasn't gonna do, but now you guys just making fun of me. Okay, let's hear. So, and we gotta give context to the people watching the show right now. Okay, so here's a deal. Adam and Justin grew up athletes, right? Very coordinated. Oh, here we go.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Hold on. He doesn't have to look. Oh, here we go. Let me finish. Come on. Come on, you know, let me finish. Carnival sound. Carnival sound.
Starting point is 00:10:52 You can already start it. You can already make it shut up. Listen, they're great. They'd be played sports, Justin college, football, Adam, you know, video games, every sport that existed. You know, all I do was work out. I just lift their weights. I did judo jiu-jitsu. Not a big deal. Had know, all I do was work out. I just lift their weights.
Starting point is 00:11:05 I did judo jiu jitsu, not a big deal, had purple belt. Just wanna mention that purple belt. Just wanna throw the purple belt out there. Yeah, just gonna do that. No, but here's a deal. There's only, there's two times in our lives that we all competed at something that was semi-sportish. I don't wanna say it was a sport, it's not sportish.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Like, let's caveat. And here's the best part, both caught on film. So the first time we played horse and I beat them and these are still angry about that. Right. That one actually made me more angry. Yeah. We went to top golf and I have a terrible swing. I've got bat whatever. Never played golf. I suck. Even if I practice, I probably still suck. But I won again. It's just really weird. He took a driver. But I won again. It's just really weird. He took a driver, a driver with a head this big. Harder to be accurate.
Starting point is 00:11:49 I just pushed it just a little to the closest hole. Pushed it just like he's putting right. Pushed it and it went right into the very first hole and he'd get like eight and ten points. Can see. I got him. I videoed his swing. So I must have got a hundred DMs about it, but I said he fucking I mean he had to
Starting point is 00:12:10 system. We're not taking anything. Obviously he's doing something better. You're saying you figure out what the game really is about. You know, break it down your mind and then you're like this is the least amount of effort I can put out there. You know what? This reminds me of there was one time dude. Oh my god Adam. least amount of effort I can put out there. You know what? To get it done. This reminds me of, there was one time, dude, oh my god Adam, I don't even know if you were
Starting point is 00:12:27 there. I know you were there, but you went around us, dude. I got just and so angry one time. He got so mad. We were at the boxing, punching the bad. No, I had to tell him because I was like, he's not gonna sleep tonight if I don't tell him what happened. We had to hit that bag to see how hard you could punch and Justin just like, wha, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:46 and I went over there and I look at the physics to the thing, I'm like, oh, if I punch at a down angle it's gonna swing. So I was doing that and I was fucking blowing out the numbers. He was so angry he stopped talking. And he couldn't, he was like, I'm not, yeah, I couldn't tell he's not gonna sleep.
Starting point is 00:12:59 I'm like, dude, this is what I did. Dude, and he's like, oh. Well, Sal's not telling this is, he's really like a traveling gypsy. I just, you nailed that with the cool. When you called it, you say, you know what it is, he's just good at carnival games. He was a carnivorker in another life.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I mean, you must've been like the best boyfriend ever growing up. Like, you're the one that's winning the big ass here. Popping other balloons. Yeah, no big deal. I got you, baby girl. Oh, he's a ring chute. I got you. Like, you just everything, everything like you know at the
Starting point is 00:13:25 block you're just yeah doing research before we go to top golf You guys know that the whole week of research to figure out the future I hit it and then it went in the first one and I saw the points I'm like well I'll just keep doing that over and over again. Well, isn't like your other favorite thing to do, like arm wrestling, like you get that down to a science two. Yeah, but that requires some strength though. Yeah, so gotta be. It does, but it's also like majority of his technique.
Starting point is 00:13:55 That was a good time though. It had a lot of fun. Speaking of punching, right, and all the end stuff, I watched the Jake Paul fight this one. He won? Okay, so a couple things. One, I actually enjoyed the card. It was a really good card.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Yeah, really good card. They're taking it to new levels. Yeah, well, I mean, now he signed with Showtime. So this is obviously a big deal. So it was done. I remember the last one, I was like, oh, what a joke. I can't remember the name of that circus. Yeah, whatever, I don't remember the name of that organization
Starting point is 00:14:24 that put it on the floor. It was like Snoop Dogg, one of the best. Yeah, I see. It was so hokey and just the fights were wack, like, not good at all. This totally different. I mean, you had all your regular showtime announcers that were doing it, very professional. Barstall Sports was there first time talking about live
Starting point is 00:14:42 betting while it was going on, so that was different. But the whole card was pretty good and the actual fight between Woodley and Jake Paul was good now It was good because it was because I know there's somebody who's really into boxing that's gonna shame me for this right like Oh, it was not good boxing. Okay. It wasn't Two great boxers fighting. It was a good fight like I mean I want I wanted to see Woodley win right even though I didn't think he knocked him back in the fourth. I read. Yeah. So, I mean, I said over the clips, you guys could watch it. But the, the first and second round, it looked exactly kind of how I thought was going to be. It was like, Jake
Starting point is 00:15:16 Paul came out, looked like a boxer, was very technical. By the way, Jake Paul is light heavyweight and he and Woodley is a Walter weight. So you got 20 pounds on him. So he's a big discrepancies. Yeah, and he's a actual boxer, even though he's not professional, he's a boxer versus a combat sport fighter. And so Woodley came out and is like MMA stance, you know, he looks like he's going to shoot at any moment, which knowing he can't do that.
Starting point is 00:15:41 So it did look like, oh man, this is, he's not gonna be able to withstand him. And I actually thought that Jake Paul strategy was, jab, jab, just get him to later rounds and then he's gonna really pummel him. But what ended up happening was as the later rounds went on, would we actually started to gain confidence and started to get some shots in and Jake Paul started to get tired.
Starting point is 00:16:03 So, I mean, Jake Paul won the fight, but it was a split decision. He saw you won because he connected more technically. That's it, yeah. Well, I'll tell you what. We only landed a couple nice shots on him that rocked him a little bit. So did he though?
Starting point is 00:16:16 I mean, it was a good fight. It was a couple times I got all loud and excited. Like it was, got me in. I know I've talked a lot of shit about this whole situation but it's turning out that I'm eating my words it's looking like Jake Paul and his team are brilliant promoters. They are very strategies very smart yeah like this is the strategy that they're going into it seems very clear to me that it's it's to go in to create to get a lot of buys and to figure out a situation where Jake has a very good chance. The only buys that have beat this fight out
Starting point is 00:16:50 was Mayweather versus his brother. Wow. Top pay-per-view buys. It's so insane. I mean, they're crushing numbers. Is he becoming the highest paid boxer now? So I don't know the stats. I know Mayweather and McGregor have the record
Starting point is 00:17:04 for like, purses in a year or whatever. So I think they still hold that record right now, but I don't know. I know they're making a lot of money now. And so technically, he's still an amateur boxer. He's named in a professional then, right? Yeah. He hasn't done any, like, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:17 I don't know how this works. I think they say pro, they say they're, they're calling him pro fights. Yeah, I don't think you can fight professionally as a boxer without having a job. But he hasn't fought a professional boxer. He's fought like other guys Yeah, but they're all on YouTube guys, but they're all considered pro fights. Yeah, so right, okay I'm correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure if I this is correct, but I think you can't fight professionally in most sanctioned fighting events
Starting point is 00:17:42 Without head gear in other words, if it's not pro, they have to require a wear head gear. So I think it is perfect. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know the rules, but I do know that they kept referring to it as a pro fight. So it's considered a pro fight because they said he's had one amateur fight and now three professional fights.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I don't know what it is. Like I'm just trying to wrap my brain. Is this like, is he creating a new, like a whole league? Like because like you don't have to, I mean, title fights and all that. He's not like eligible for those. No, I mean, he's not gonna go for, I mean, unless he keeps winning.
Starting point is 00:18:12 He's not like, he won't fight, okay. One of the things that was very obvious to me after watching this fight, cause this is the first time he's been beyond two rounds. And the Ben Asker and Thing was a fucking joke. Ben Asker looks like he pounded 12 beers the day before, showed up all soft. He was never a boxer to be honest.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Yeah, he's not even known for his hands at all. He just could be clicked to check. Yeah, and he got put to sleep. That was an embarrassment. It was like, okay, so he hasn't gone, so Jake Paul, you're on beyond two pounds. The other one's the two rounds. The other one was an internet guy, whatever,
Starting point is 00:18:41 in the basketball player, whatever. So he hasn't really, no, Woodley is the first, like, legit fighter also has hands. He's not a boxer, but he can throw a lot smaller. Yeah, he's a lot smaller. And he, and so what this showed me more than anything else, one, it was, I was impressed with Woodley's ability again there and Stan and actually make this a fight and like, give himself a chance. And it also highlighted because at the end of the fight,
Starting point is 00:19:06 Woodley wants another rematch. And they might, we'll see. But you could tell Jake Paul doesn't want to rematch with him because it could have easily went the other way for Woodley. And it showed that, okay, if a real boxer, somebody who is considered a professional boxer has legitimate and it could be a no name, not even a good bot will whoop the shit out of Jake.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Yeah, so it's in his weight class and he's a legit boxer. Well, fuck him. Well, so here's the strategy. No question. Let's predict the strategy. Cause it's obvious to me that he's going up a ladder. Yes, yeah, opponent.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Right, so now the next fight is gonna be someone you're gonna be like, oh, maybe he'll kick his ass. And then if he wins that, it's really, you know, you could say all the things you want to about him being dumb and whatever like that. No, it's a promoter, this is brilliant. Yeah, what they've done, he's picked these fights. I mean, the first one was a, you know, the,
Starting point is 00:19:57 I like the guy who's like a YouTube sensation. So the views was, I mean, it was all, no one, they weren't real like a, and then he started working his way to fighters. And it's interesting. Like, I would, we'll go, no one, they weren't real. Like, and then he started working his way to Fighters. And it's interesting. Like, I would, we'll go down as like one of the greatest Walter Wates to ever fight. He'll be in the Hall of Fame for.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Do you know what would be a great fight? Is it for his brothers? No, no, he's not. You know what would be a really good fight? Is if he got a great old box, sort of come out of retirement. So like you imagine like a, hold Mike Tyson right now.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Yeah, I don't know. For example, 60, well, but see that's the thing because he's so much older, you're right though, I pick Mike Tyson. Yeah, they won't do that. So that's why he's been smart. He's picking fights that he should win.
Starting point is 00:20:36 He shouldn't have what killing him. He should win. I mean, like he was, I would not have bet of, I wanted Woodley to win and I thought he has, everyone's got a fighter's chance, right? But Jake Paul is 20 pounds heavier,
Starting point is 00:20:49 is training for boxing consistently. He should win. He's obviously a good athlete. Yeah, he's definitely an athlete. You do Roy Jones, Jr. and Mike Tyson fight, not too long ago? Yes, yes, yes, yes. That was like, I didn't watch that one. I don't know what happened with that fight. But anyways, this was, it was entertaining, man. I was, that was like it. I didn't watch that one. I don't know what happened with that fight
Starting point is 00:21:05 But anyways, this was it was entertaining man. I was I was actually that smart I was really impressed with it You know, that's a big job of boxing managers and promoters is to Figure out who you can fight that they think that will that you'll be able to be and will it generate a lot of excitement and there's always You know, there's always those boxers that are such, they present so many problems to other boxers that they won't get fights just because of that. Like, especially if like you're a South Pa,
Starting point is 00:21:33 or whatever, a lot of times promoters like, no, you're not gonna fight my guy because you might be down here. And I don't know if you guys are seeing the, you know, the rippling effect from this, what, I mean, you're, it's happening like almost every weekend now. We just don't know about other promotions that aren't as big and bit lesser.
Starting point is 00:21:48 That it's like all the Lamar Odom just fought that Supreme Patty guy who's a two million, four million Instagram follower. I mean, there's people that are fighting now that are not TikTok influencers fighting that's what's going on. It's, it's, it's a, it's a lot of that right now. And it's really interesting. But so what the showtime guys were saying, because I thought deep down,
Starting point is 00:22:09 like then these guys have got to be so fucking annoyed by this and not, I mean, they have to do, this is their job, right? They work for showtime, showtime signs of contract with Jake Paul. I think inside they're going like, this is fucking bulls, disrespect to the sport. But it's really not to take over the sport. It's not going to replace great boxing matches.
Starting point is 00:22:28 That's another brand. That's right. It's just going to be another brand. You know, there's hard, there's a lot of people that didn't get the fight that will refuse to get the fight because they vote with their dollars and they don't want to put money towards some bullshit like this. But then there's people like me who I'm not really, I'm not that passionate about boxing. Plus you're interested more in like the,
Starting point is 00:22:47 what's this look like? What's the business? I am very interested in what they do with it. If you look at my, you know what he came out with? His, his, Oh, the LED thing. He had a LED belt with his name running across it
Starting point is 00:22:57 all the time. Oh, well, look, I tell you what, if I was a fighter right now, and I had a bit of a business sense, because you got to have that a little bit too with what's going on. And with the ease of using social media, the way I would look at this is I'd say, okay,
Starting point is 00:23:11 my success is dependent on how good a box I am, but it's also largely on how good, well I can promote myself and get people to want, to see me either beat someone or get my ass kicked. And so, the truth be told, if you're a boxer or a fighter today, your opportunity for success is better because there's more now, right? There's more opportunities that are open to you
Starting point is 00:23:35 to get yourself out there and make people either hate you or love you. And they just, because like Jake Paul's not- If you're an outgoing person, of course. It may look like a bigger hurdle though, now if you're the officer. If you're a wish a, it may look like a bigger hurdle though. Now if you're the opposite, it's a hard worker fighter. And I would imagine there's a lot of guys in the sport of boxing that are more introverts.
Starting point is 00:23:52 You know, that's why I would think there are a lot of them are introverts that have a lot of shit all bent up and that's what makes them fighters. And so, gotta be really frustrating if that's not your thing is to be flamboyant. Yeah. Speaking of social media, okay. So, you know how social media can just be sometimes you look at it and you're like, this is cancer, let's get rid of this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:10 And then other times I look at it and I'm like thank God for social media. This is a, okay, this is one of the best things ever seen. So you guys know obviously we're not going to go into depth of this because it's bullshit, but you saw, you know, what happened? Afghanistan, right, Taliban taking over. Anyway, one of the leaders of the Taliban is on, I think it's Twitter, and he posts the picture
Starting point is 00:24:26 and he's like, you know, with his gun, and he's like, do you like the suppressor on my M416 or whatever? Another guy comments on it, and he goes, respectfully, what do you say to those under your rule who may have Ligma? And he actually responded, this Taliban leader is like, explain this Ligma, for sure I will answer for you, and he goes, Ligma and he actually responded this Taliban leader is like explain this Ligma for sure
Starting point is 00:24:45 I will answer for you and he goes Ligma balls bitch It puts a picture of what of a guy wearing like an American speedo with I was like yes, dude the greatest comeback. Yes. He got trolled on Social media. Fuck you man So that's my son's favorite, by the way. That's the Patriot Missile of Comments right there. That's my son gets me on that shit. Yeah, all the time.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Hey, amazing. We need to talk about the study right now that is below. Are you guys seeing everybody? The one that I got DMs about that you posted. Please explain to me how many people. Okay, so many people ruffling. You ruffle people's feathers by posting that. People need to understand what science is coming up.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Okay, so this was a huge study out of Israel. So Israel is one of the most vaccinated countries in the world. And they've been 25% right? They've been trying, I think so, right? They've been tracking and studying how people get infected, reinfected, what are, how much does a vaccine help,
Starting point is 00:25:44 how much does previous infection help, how much does previous infection help, and I got to make sure I pull up the right statistics here. But in this particular study, they showed that natural immunity, so people who were infected with COVID before, had far better protection against the Delta variant than people who had gotten vaccinated. Which, by the way, this is almost always how immunity works. It's also how the body adapts to things too. I mean, I know nothing about this side, right?
Starting point is 00:26:14 So I don't want to pretend like I know anything about immunology or what the fuck it's called. Like I don't know anything about that and I'm not speaking as an expert. But what I do know about is about exercise and fitness and how the body adapts and a lot of the systems in the body. Healthy resilient body. And anytime you do something artificially to try and replicate what the body could potentially do naturally, it's always inferior.
Starting point is 00:26:39 It's naturally is always a better, if you can't. Now that being said, and I had to defend your post like in my DMs all day that day, was Salah's not encouraging or discouraging anybody from doing anything. He's just, all he's doing is posting the same. I said, I told my mom and my dad that you need to go get this vaccine.
Starting point is 00:26:59 You need to go do this. You know why? Because they're in advanced age, they're fat, and they're low vitamin D. Like, absolutely, I would rather them take the risk with that. Even it being not passed by the FDA, I told them, go get that, please go get that,
Starting point is 00:27:13 because I'm more afraid of what COVID would do to them. Yeah, I'm not advocating, they even said this in the study that people throw like COVID parties. Like when we were kids, people in other... In other pockets parties. Yes, what I do. So when I was a kid, when we were kids, people in other... Oh, chicken pox parties? Yes, do you know?
Starting point is 00:27:25 So when I was a kid, when we were kids, chicken pox, there was no vaccine for it. And you got it, and it was very rare that a kid died from it, but it sucked. You were sick for like a week, and then you had lifetime immunity. Parents used to actually do this. Did you go to one as a kid?
Starting point is 00:27:40 No, but my cousins got it, and I remember my mom being like, okay, cool, now my kids get to you So you guys into a party. Oh, yeah, yeah, so some of my friends like it and they're what they serve at a chicken Playing in a room and then you know, we're just hanging out like and how weird is that if you're a parent right like I was thinking about the Roll around like yeah, they're all like watching like drinking, you know, like, as we're all playing. And, you know, oh, pass the plane blocks over to your friend. Now, we used to do this because chicken pox
Starting point is 00:28:10 as an adult is really bad. As a kid, it's not so bad in comparison. So we would have kids hang out with each other. Oh, you got chicken pox. I want to say it's what we're finding out about COVID too, right? Is that it's way worse for advanced age? It is worse for adults, yeah. So, um, so the studies show, and I'll read to you guys
Starting point is 00:28:24 some statistics that by the way, in this bad stage, it is worse for adults. So the studies show, and I'll read to you guys some statistics that by the way, in this particular study, they did show like other studies that the vaccine was better than nothing. In other words, if you didn't get previous infection, the vaccine did provide protection, like other studies have shown. But in comparison to previous symptoms, right?
Starting point is 00:28:43 So lower chance of getting infected, Lower chance of getting severe COVID, Like across the board, Better than nothing, okay? But in comparison to previously infected, check this out. The vaccinated individuals had 27 times higher risk Of symptomatic COVID infection compared to those With natural immunity.
Starting point is 00:29:06 So in other words, that's a big difference and they showed long lasting effects by the way. That's the thing to talk about right there because it's the other thing I keep hearing from people I had to have this conversation with my buddy too. He was just like, well, it's stupid. Your natural antibodies are only good for six months. I'm like, okay.
Starting point is 00:29:21 I've heard people say three to four months. I'm like, no. Your vaccine too. Like the vaccine wanes too. Not only that, okay. I've heard people say three to four months. I'm like, no. You're vaccine two. Like the vaccine wanes two. Not only that, but there's something to be said about the body having to go through that and then how it adapts to get the resiliency it builds from that. Forget the fact that it makes you immune to something
Starting point is 00:29:37 for three to six months or what about that. But the body going through that and what it how it evolves. It's how we've evolved in time all over all these thousands of years. Well, studies are showing that there's probably, in a lot of people, there's a long-term protective effect, probably not forever, so you'll probably wane over time, just like the vaccines do, like we're finding now.
Starting point is 00:29:56 But the reason why this is such an incredible study, first off, yeah, don't go to a COVID party. I personally know somebody who's my age who is fighting for their life right now. So it is very interesting how some people react. I had it very mild so to my family. I know the rest of the guys in here had it very mild. So it's nothing to play with.
Starting point is 00:30:14 You know, you don't want to roll the dice necessarily. But here's where this really is a big deal. This puts the nail in the coffin for these mandates that are being passed in other countries because almost none of them, I think there's one country, if I'm not mistaken, but the rest don't consider whether or not you were previously infected. So it's like vaccine or not, you have to be vaccinated or not. And if you're not, then we won't let you in our restaurants and stuff. Well, at least the government should say makes these mandates. They don't count previously infected.
Starting point is 00:30:45 And there's a lot of people who have natural immunity. In fact, there's a hundred million or more people who've got infected, who have natural immunity. None of these passports even consider that. And then there's lots of other reasons why. Well, that was the big thing that I still have this thread. I talk about with my two best friends and we're all different politically.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And of course course all this bullshit has charged everybody so much and divided even some of that, which is so frustrating to me to see how much division there is amongst friends and family today than just two or three decades ago. But the main thing that I was trying to tell my buddies is like I'm not anti any of this. I just don't want mandates in the government to force us to have to do this. Like if you, I said, if you go do it, I'm not anti any of this. I just don't want mandates and the government
Starting point is 00:31:25 to force us to have to do this. Like, if you, I said, if you go do it, I'm totally supportive. Even though I think you're young and healthy and I wouldn't if I'm in your situation, doesn't mean that I'm like against you going to do it. Go for it, you should. I told my parents to do it.
Starting point is 00:31:37 But give the government control and let them get involved in saying what we should or shouldn't be able to do. That's what you got to be careful of. Especially if you look at, okay, so just in California alone, 40% of the population roughly would not be able to get access to restaurants and shops and stuff like that because they're not vaccinated. So you lock down businesses for a long-ass time in California, hammered small businesses,
Starting point is 00:32:04 now we're going to cut 40%- businesses, now we're going to cut 40% of the business. Now we're going to cut 40%. And then of that 40%, a majority of them are minorities. So not only are we eliminating 40% of the customers, we're also taking minorities and they're the ones that are getting affected the most. Oh, you can't go eat in these restaurants or you can't go to these cafes. So it's a very interesting policy. And then the fact that people who had previous infection have better immunity. And here's another one. Oftentimes a lot
Starting point is 00:32:32 of these policies are passed or things that we do without data. Did you guys see the study on plastic partitions? You know, when you were at the grocery store, there's a plastic partition between them. Oh, yeah. I heard you talking about that. Yeah, I can see those are a waste. So it's just another thing that shows you're doing something. Right. So it's like, oh, you know, I'm gonna put up plastic partitions and some cities actually like required them. You have to have, you know what they found in studies?
Starting point is 00:32:54 It's probably worse because it probably sticks to the fucking glass. It's not just that because it reduces airflow. Because of the airflow is now interrupted in this study, they show. So it's just lingers right there. Of course. Yes, of course. And then there's also studies on mask mandates
Starting point is 00:33:09 and they compared them to states without mask mandates and looking at the difference. And then they're counting total deaths, not just infections, but other deaths and whatever in lockdowns, they compared lockdowns. And they found that the lockdowns in particular, not only did not have a beneficial effect, they actually caused more other unintended deaths like suicide, drug abuse, people not
Starting point is 00:33:32 getting services that they need. All things we don't consider when we pass these things, so we have to be very, very careful as all I'm saying. Well speaking of other drugs, Doug, I'm going to transition this out of this conversation before your head explodes. Jane technologies, keep an eye on this company. So I think they just went, I think they went public now. I know they just took on like another hundred million dollars.
Starting point is 00:33:54 They are like the software, Shopify for the weed industry. So think of what Shopify has done for e-commerce. Jane technologies is responsible for the software that's embedded in a lot of these dispensaries in the back end work. So keep an eye on that business. Wow. Right. Now, now, where are they? Okay, because it's not federally legal, that's not a national company, right? So it's only where at California or so I don't know how that all works, right? Like I know, I mean, what's the company that we we work with for briefly there? Is that yeah I know, I mean, what's the company that we work with for a briefly there that, yeah, ease. I mean, they're all online and I know they're growing
Starting point is 00:34:29 rapidly and I don't know what states they're in right now and how that, like I know like gambling, there's like gray areas like that too, where you could order or you could, you can bet online because technically even if that, even if that state doesn't allow you, because they can say that the home base is somewhere else. I know there's a lot of loopholes, right?
Starting point is 00:34:46 As soon as, because- But no matter what, it's going that way. Yeah, we know that. Oh yeah, as soon as, because it's for sure happening, as soon as they lift the federal, you know, schedule one classification for marijuana and a cow to be, oh my God. Yeah, blow up.
Starting point is 00:35:01 It's going, and there's already businesses that are so primed and ready. Like, there's businesses in the company. Well, like a company like that. Imagine, that's why I keep an eye on that. And I don't know, like I said, I don't know if they're still consider private. I know they took on some funding.
Starting point is 00:35:16 So keep an eye on this company. Jane technology should be easy to remember. Mary Jane, right? So Jane technology is, if and when they do go public or you have opportunity to invest or get a part of, and there are leaders in that space. I mean, just imagine being able to get a hold of Shopify early on as in for e-commerce,
Starting point is 00:35:31 like what that's done. So I just think that these, and I love businesses like that, like getting directly into, it's very competitive, right? And you go out and try and make your own strain or be a farmer or start a dispensary right now. I don't think that's smart business, but if you can find some of these companies
Starting point is 00:35:46 that are assisting that, and I like that. So, what is all their e-commerce? Yeah, you know what Shopify is for us, right? But Shopify is software so we can sell a parallel and stuff online. They are software specific, because I'm sure Shopify doesn't do marijuana.
Starting point is 00:36:02 So, if someone had to come up with a compess, so they are the Shopify basically of the medical marijuana field. Wow. So that's fascinating. I know, I thought that was kind of an interesting one. All right, so I read something today that I thought was really interesting.
Starting point is 00:36:16 So you guys are familiar with records in bench press, squat, deadlift, right? The Olympic records. You guys know that there are competitions for what's called a strict curl. Have you guys seen these? bench press, squat, deadlift, right, the Olympic records. You guys know that there are competitions for, what's called a strict curl? Have you guys seen these? Really?
Starting point is 00:36:30 Okay, so, and this is actually becoming a thing. So, you have to, I think you have to lean up against a board. You have a weight, it has to start a barbell, it has to start at your thighs, and you can't come off the back of the board, and you have to curl the weight all the way up. Okay. So it's called a strict curl and you have to have this particular positioning in order
Starting point is 00:36:50 to do it. And so people are competing in it and seeing how much they can lift. Someone set the world record. It was a power lifter, Leroy Walker. What's the guess on the weight? Don't tell me. What do you guys think the that record is for a strict Correct you can't rock you can't bounce your back is against the bar. Or is it with a barbell? No, it's an easy bar
Starting point is 00:37:11 You're up against the wall and you can't come off the wall at all So only our eyes on it. Yeah, let's say what would that wave? I'm gonna say 250 What do you think just I say to 25 you hit it around the neck 250 pounds Wow says a little more than what I can do so I figured that was probably to somebody out there a little bit stronger than me Like it's 45 somebody could get five red. I was like wow one arm 250's there I am 250 I would have prized up something for that one. What, for guessing? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Yeah, no, you don't want anything. We'll give you a, yeah, I don't know, we'll give you a belt. theme, what's the most you guys have ever curled? I know it's not really something you're brag about, but since we're on the topic. Do you have no idea? Yeah, I definitely know you have no idea. Um, you know, I know I've done 135
Starting point is 00:38:02 and workouts before, for sure. I've done the wheels. I can't did beyond for you. I don't know if I've ever put more than the 45s on there. So I'd have to say 135. But I know I was doing that for more than one run. A little bit, right? Instead of not against the wall. I didn't do the, yeah, I don't think they had passed regularly.
Starting point is 00:38:19 But I trained pretty strict. So they weren't, uh, they. Now, did you do one a straight bar? Yeah. Oh, see, I heard it's my wrist. If I go too heavy on that, I have to use a curl bar. Oh, yeah. If I go that heavy, I don't't. Now, did you do one a straight bar? Yeah. Oh, see, I heard it's my wrist. If I go too heavy on that. I have to use a curl bar. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:27 If I go that heavy. I don't know what my most is ever. That's an exercise I never really push like that. I've used some pretty heavy dumbbells. I've never done singles, so I don't know what my max would be. I worked out what I've worked up to 135 before. So I don't know what. It feels like a bicep tear.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Like, I don't know. I mean, I feel like if I went and tried this, that wouldn't be it. Oh, yeah, I would never try it right now. I'm not in that kind of tear. I don't know, I mean, I feel like if I went and tried this, that wouldn't be- Oh yeah, I would never try it right now. I'm not in that kind of shit for sure. Yeah, very interesting that they do competitions on this. No, the one I was curious at doing was, when we had the kettlebell competition in here,
Starting point is 00:38:55 they had a new event that they had. It was the bottoms-up kettlebell press. I thought that was really cool, because they would keep going up in size to see like how far you could go weight wise with it bottoms up. And you'd see the guys start shaking and really trying to stabilize. Was that an event in there?
Starting point is 00:39:15 Yeah. Oh, that wasn't that. Yeah, that was a very new event. I thought that was really cool. You know what's cool about lifts when you start to see people compete for strength is you start to see people compete for strength is you start to see technique evolve and you start to see because the goal is not to activate the most muscle or whatever it's all about obviously moving the most weight and it's really cool to see when people break through and come up with a new technique. For example, you guys know the high jump
Starting point is 00:39:42 right in the Olympics. Not the one with the stick. What's the one with the stick? Pull vault. The one where they just run and jump. Oh, yeah. So they, at first they, they approached it forward, right? And then they turn their body backwards. So they can like use physical. There was one guy. Yeah. So originally you run and you jump with your legs over it. It's so funny. You're bringing this up because the guy who jumped forward is the guy who was the record holder before Bruce Jenner built them or beat him
Starting point is 00:40:07 I just watched that you mean the first guy to jump backwards over it Well, no, he wasn't the Jenner wasn't the first guy to jump backwards But the there's a guy who drove there's a Russian guy who was like the de-cathlon champion Oh, and he actually did the and the high jump was one of his best events. And he actually technically still beat Jenner in that event. Jenner beat him in the whole. And we'll zoom in on that documentary. Serious. If you guys have not watched,
Starting point is 00:40:31 that's the newest, it's now the third one, right? So you brought up the female boxer? Yeah, Christie Martin. Then they did the mouse and the palace one. And then now they just did Bruce Jenner. And I actually really enjoyed the Bruce Jenner story. I didn't know his whole story. I didn't, like I knew that he was a badass.
Starting point is 00:40:49 I didn't know that he won like the DeCathlon gold medal. Oh bro, he was on the box of Wheaties. Oh, he was a big deal. Yeah, so I mean, I know a little bit about that, right? I didn't know exactly, I didn't know if it was for a specific event. I didn't know like, honestly, I didn't even know all the events of a DeCathlon
Starting point is 00:41:03 what it would encompasses, like back then or maybe even steal today, I don't know, honestly, I didn't even know all the events of a de-Cathalon, what it would encompasses, like back then, or maybe even still today, I don't know. That's like, consider that they say the fittest athlete in the world. So if you win the de-Cathalon, because it requires such, you have to have endurance, you have speed, you have to have a strength. Vertical, yeah, strength, I mean, it has kind of everything. And so that was a big deal for him, his training leading up to that. I also didn't know that he actually tried to transition back in like 99. It has kind of everything. And so that was a big deal for him, his training leading up to that. I also didn't know that he actually tried to transition
Starting point is 00:41:28 back in like 99. I don't know that. Either did I. I thought when he, you know, they came out and he won the woman of the year award or whatever like that. I thought it would, I know. I've read, I think everybody kind of chuckled or scoffed
Starting point is 00:41:41 about how kind of ridiculous that is. But I will say that I had no idea how long he was kind of suffering with this like Living is this life that he is well aligned with yeah, apparently he told his wife. Yeah, before he they 99 they knew he was he was already starting the surgeries and transitions back in 99 So he did like hormones and even before that he was already expressing it to his wife and stuff. So they've known for a really, we only found out in the 2000s something, right? But to think that he had been going through that. I'll tell you something right now, Caitlin, if you see her in her political ads, because right now in California, this is just like recall thing. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Which, which I hope happens because Gavin's evil anyway. Yes. 100% But Caitlin is a really good politician. If you see her commercials, she's like smart with what she had and how she positions it. Coming in with the heat. I was like, oh my gosh, this is gonna be very, very interesting.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Yeah, you know what I'm saying? The very elder came in. Well back when Caitlin was Bruce, man, dude, that dude was a frickin' a phenom. He was such an athlete. And what's kind of interesting is the driving force behind that was not being who he really wanna be. And that was a way for him to escape.
Starting point is 00:42:56 So he never took a day off. This dude trained like every single, and they had all kinds of people come on that like confirmed like his training and talked about, he buried himself so much into training for the sport that he didn't kind of have to live in the outside world. He's like an escape.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Yeah. Really, really good, really well done. I tell you what, Netflix, you convinced me. Yeah, you should watch all three of them all because even though it's not maybe a mouse. And the puzzle is good. The puzzle is good. Oh, Eugene, you're watching it. Yeah, it was good right?
Starting point is 00:43:26 They're here. It's like and if you like those I told you a long time ago on the podcast I said I wanted you and I know you've never done it But ESPN has what they have they call their 30 for 30 series and it's cut It's very it's definitely what's competitive with that it's they they take these stories that a lot of people may not know Everything but sports always has a really good clips to pull from. Yeah. So they put it together. Yeah, they had all kinds of like home footage of him back in like the 80s and stuff like
Starting point is 00:43:54 that. Yeah. It was really good. All right. Well, here's something that sucks. So we think it's out of the positive. Yeah. No, this sucks because this was a company that we had invested in.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Oh, I know we talked about. And then I invested in all my own and in us as a company, right, took our, our, our winnings. We sold it when we, we made 35 or 39% off. Yeah, I left mine in there because I'm like, I think this palaton. Oh, yes. Under investigation. So glad we splashed out their prices.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Under under, you know, they're under investigation? Yes. By the government. They did happen. Is it some of the trend? They had their weren't all their people following on the treadmill? They went there to 10, then the government, like all the data that they have,
Starting point is 00:44:35 supposedly collected on people? Yes. What? Yeah, because people were following off treadmill. Wow. And now, I don't know how many were people were falling off and what the deal was. Wow.
Starting point is 00:44:44 And I don't know what politician was angry with Peloton. This is what you got to pay attention to. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes, you know, because companies can partner with government and they can give each other favors. And sometimes they can piss each other off. And when they do, it's literally, it can subpoena you. You can come out of it being okay,
Starting point is 00:44:59 but the simple fact that you got subpoenaed. Where's the stock out now? I've kept a few shares, but we definitely, I'll check it right now because I'm sure it tanked. I mean, I haven't seen it lower than 70 something. Oh, it's not, okay, it's 100. Oh. But at its peak was at,
Starting point is 00:45:16 well yeah, we sold it like 140 or 160 years ago. Yeah, I was up at 160. Yeah, I think I bought it like 120, so now I'm in the red. Oh, wow. I know, I know. But what are you gonna do? Wow, that's really, wow, it's really interesting.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Yeah, so people were falling off, but I have family members stuff that own their products and they did too, yeah. I mean, it was super popular. Again, wasn't that like the number one Christmas present or whatever it was? Yes, no, I know. Here's the thing, the reason I was asking
Starting point is 00:45:43 were the prices, because if it drops below 70, I still would buy. Because to all this bad pub, they're gonna lose money, the next quarter at least, they can have. Right, it might be a good opportunity. They're gonna look awful, so that's gonna dip the stock, but I mean, all the people I know that own them, and we guys know we're not big cardio guys,
Starting point is 00:45:58 so I'm not like a fan like that, but all the people I know that have, I mean, I know a lot of people that own them. They love them. They love them. Absolutely love them. I think the technology is brilliant. I think the community they built, the cult that know they have, I mean I know a lot of people that love them. Absolutely love them. I think the technology is brilliant. I think the community built, the cult that following they have, I just think right now
Starting point is 00:46:09 they're going to get a ton of bad pub. They're probably going to lose some money right now. That's going to drive the price down. So I think it'll be a good buy. So I'd keep an eye on it still. If it drops below the 70 mark, I would jump back on it. Speaking of a good buy. They need assault bikes now to do it instead.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Adoubred it. I doubt the average buy. They need assault bikes now to do it instead. Adoub it. I doubt the average person. People are being fake. Yeah, that'd be much better. You have to be like a cardio lover to like that. Well, they'll subpoena them for people throwing up. That's what they'll do. Why are people throwing up using your assault bike?
Starting point is 00:46:35 That is really interesting, you know, how they can go after them for something like that. I swear to God, it feels like they're, unless they totally lying, I don't know, but it feels like they pissed off the wrong politician who now is like, all right, we're gonna subterge this. Do you know any of the political views behind Peltongue?
Starting point is 00:46:51 I know nothing. I don't know anything. I'm making purses, you know, this is so much research. Yeah, this is what I do. I'm a lizard people, to appreciate, in a speculation, to be sure. Anyway, speaking of buying stuff, so the past few episodes I've been drinking out of my,
Starting point is 00:47:02 my fitness and freedom, your,, you know flask or whatever Tons and tons of people had no idea that we even have these. Yeah, and they're going crazy Yeah, so if you want to get one you can go to the mind pump store And that's what it says on it fitness and freedom Yeah, and if you don't want that because you're you're not like a you're not a cool person Yeah, you're not into the American flag or anything You could always go to mirror and do all kinds of stuff yourself so you can get them through us where you can go do your own.
Starting point is 00:47:27 You put stickers all over yours. Where is it? Where is your, yeah, what are your stickers show there? Oh yeah, there you go, stay all the mine pump. Mine pump. Did you guys put stickers on your binders when you were a kid? Remember binders?
Starting point is 00:47:38 Yes, of course. Yeah, the midst all my like drawings, your penis drawings. And yeah, Mario Brothers guys. I don't know why, it's just what I did. You drew the helicopter? Yeah, I did clouds, you know, you know, tanks with dogs. What?
Starting point is 00:47:54 All that stuff. You never told us why, brother. I don't know, cause it's just funny. You know, it was funny and people were always like a paul and it made me laugh. So, do you remember, did you guys remember Trapper Keepers? Yeah, yeah, yeah, those. Oh yeah, the kids even use binders anymore?
Starting point is 00:48:10 I don't know. Well, I mean, they have like those, the spiral, but like so my kids have those for class and so they still journal. Just like the mead ones, that the brand, is that still the brand? Is that the, yeah, something? Okay, what were the ones called? Uh, what were the folders? It something? Yeah, yeah, yeah. What were the ones called? What were the folders?
Starting point is 00:48:26 It was like a generic folder. Yellow. And it had pictures of like the sports. Yes. Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. What were those called? Peaches. Peaches.
Starting point is 00:48:35 I think they're peachy. Something peachy or something like that. Carp capeci or something. Why? And then why did all the schools have that? Was it something that our testing came in or something like that? Because I remember you used to get those.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Yeah, I think that I don't think. I know, it's that way, they're like this kind of off yellow color. And then there's lines, like there's like a silhouettes of like people playing sports and stuff and like either like kind of a red or orange kind of color. Yeah, Doug, you got to find the name. You got it, Doug, you got it.
Starting point is 00:48:58 Let's see it. I'm going crazy. Yes. Oh, what is that? I nailed that. Call the peachy. It really? Peachy, yes.
Starting point is 00:49:05 So that's a vintage, I had the exact one. I think everybody did. Everybody had the same one. I think everybody did and it wasn't it something, I don't remember buying it. I remember I received it from school. So I think we got to go buy them at the store. Oh yeah, I'm sure you could,
Starting point is 00:49:21 but I don't you ever buy that. Okay, but did you guys take brown paper just, I mean, I would you ever buy that? I just buy that. But did you guys take brown paper bags and wrap your books with them? Yes. Oh, yeah, yeah. So you could draw on it. Yes, you'd draw on it.
Starting point is 00:49:32 So that was probably, so when you brought up the stickers and things like that, and that was, that was Trapper Keeper era for me, which was like fifth grade, sixth grade, when we had to get to high school and you had to make your own book covers, you would do the brown paper bags inside out and then you would draw and write Okay, so so check this out right so I have these conversations now my son
Starting point is 00:49:52 16 my daughter is about to turn 12 and so now I get to tell them like oh Yeah, when I was in its weird explain it's weird explaining it to them because they don't get it So here's something so obviously there's fads with clothes and sometimes in fashion and sometimes a Fad becomes really popular for a short period of time and then it disappears And you know what I remember that I told my kids and they looked at me like my generation was the dumbest generation of all time Do you guys remember when for a short period of time it was cool to wear? shit backwards. Oh, you mean Chris cross Chris cross. Yeah, what the hell were we thinking stupid that was so Don that was shaking that was your life exactly, but everybody did you wear you wear overalls everybody wore overalls
Starting point is 00:50:32 That's cuz it so I don't okay see if you can remember like so I think what made them so unique is they were like one of the youngest like rap groups to ever explode so yeah yeah, I think all the kids like got drawn to it really and they were everything back like 10 years old or something. They were really young. Look up with Chris Cross out when they first jumped when they first started, but a lot of jumping songs back then by the way. It was all about jumping. Yeah, but I mean, but they wore everything backwards. And I literally remember I think it was junior high. Kids were show up to school wearing a a polo backwards, wearing overalls backwards, and this was a style.
Starting point is 00:51:08 So I feel my kids, it looked like I was kidding. It didn't really hit my school, now I grew up in like a hick town, so it wasn't so. It's hard to wear boots backwards. Yeah, and so it wasn't, I remember going places and seeing people wearing clothes backwards, so I told her remember. It was a honky, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:24 That was always my favorite, like, cutlo. Or white people. That's a, that's like honky. That's like the worst racist way I've ever heard of. Like, honkeys. Like, what's it from? What's the origin? Jefferson's.
Starting point is 00:51:38 Well, I don't know if there's a word to that. I have no idea. I just always love that. It's got a mean something, though. What's honky mean? I have no way. It probably has a terrible, of course it does, I'm curious though. Like honky-tonk, is that a thing?
Starting point is 00:51:47 Like you know, you're the country guy. I know, I feel like I should know this, but I don't. Yeah, well, you know, when I grew up in country, I was teased for my Mexican background. So when I was in like honkyville, I was being teased for being Mexican. It was when I got to the Bay Area, I got teased for being white.
Starting point is 00:52:02 So it just depends on where the fuck I was at. Come on, man. It depends on who I'm getting, I got T's for being white. So it just depends on where the fuck I was at. I'm on, depends on who I'm getting, I got bullied by both sides. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we had Chris Cross people at my school. And I, my, one of my good friends was all about it. And I was like, waiting.
Starting point is 00:52:17 I was like, I was like the house of pain guy. Once they came out because like, you know, dude, when you're trying to kind of like identify with something, I was like, oh, they're Irish, you're like, yeah, cool. Angry Irish dudes rapping. I want to see chums come back. I want to read. Yeah, they're just, you're just full, you're chums.
Starting point is 00:52:35 You don't remember chums? No. You remember chums, tell me you remember chums. I do, yeah. So chums are the, they were, they were those, for your glasses, for your sunglasses. Oh god. I didn't remember that. Yeah, they had all the, for your glasses, for your sunglasses. Oh, God. And they remember that.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Yeah, they had all the, yes. They're just so functional. You know, don't you hate, I hate right now, we're like, so I had my glasses on, I went in the grocery store and like, you have nowhere to put it, it looks stupid when you wear it around your shirt, you stretches them out, you put them on your head.
Starting point is 00:52:56 Yeah. So it's like one of those things that I've ever been, I'm surprised you haven't come back. I'm really surprised too. They still exist and every once in a while you see like a dad, bro. You'll see too. They still exist. And every once in a while, you see like a dad brought you in Michael Jackson video. I think it was like bad. Yeah, there's still, I mean, there's this glasses on. He's got those. Yes. Oh, that look dorky. No, they're not that bad.
Starting point is 00:53:17 They even had the tie in the back. So you could like, since you know, you could sense it tight. So in case you're doing some something really, whoa really well, you know what I'm saying? So they wouldn't fall off. We'll get that back with the Zubaz pants, did because you know, that hammer. I had like bone fish on mine. Oh my God. This is a terrible transition, but I wanted to talk to you guys about it because I saw someone DM me and I know I'll forget about it. If I don't bring it up, you know, we talk about how fucked up California is, right?
Starting point is 00:53:45 So in Riverside, there is this husband and wife that bought a house 14 months ago, so what I do the math on when exactly that is. So 14 months ago, they bought a house and they still have not been able to move into their house and they've been paying the mortgage for 14 months. Is that why? Because the previous owner took advantage
Starting point is 00:54:03 of the the moratorium and the COVID laws and It was refused it basically bunker down and said I ain't going nowhere and they're paying the mortgage And they have to pay the mortgage because that that has to do with the banks and then having to pay the new loan That they had to buy this house so and then the laws protect him for squatting reasons and that he can't be evicted and kicked out So let's let's all come up with a strategy right now Let's imagine that's us. Imagine you buy one of you guys. You know I'm getting to oh, I'm moving in It's what I'm doing. Yeah, oh, yeah I'm showing up with you and I'm like I'm living here too, dude
Starting point is 00:54:35 I'm gonna make your life a living and I'm gonna walk around naked and I'm gonna farm what a awful Experience so come on It's just like who's who's willing to put up with more shit shit You know weird that or I would go on Craigslist and be like five dollars a month rent you can live in this house And I have a bad what I would do is that so I would I wouldn't I would never put myself or my family through something that Risky torturous or what about that? So it's funny to say that what you wouldn't do that I know who was the because you would not bring your kids your wife. Yeah, so it was some weirdo That's willing to do that. But what I would do is I would go broke, paying other people to make his fucking life miserable.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Well, I would pay people to go in that house and be there whenever they want to be there. And it reminds me if there was this corporate, these people got busted because I forget like which corporation it was, but they were sending like a group of swingers to this person's house I would say like the time that everyone was supposed to meet. Oh, I heard this.
Starting point is 00:55:32 And then they would come, like they were supposed to have this big sex party. It was a prank that someone pulled her. Yeah, it was a prank, but it was like they kept doing these things to basically, you know, like, berate this, these people that are opposed to something that this corporation was doing. I read that where I was.
Starting point is 00:55:50 He's like, yeah, it's on you. I'm gonna remember what it was. Yeah, jokes on you, come on in. It's like you order pizza to trick your friend that's like, cool, thanks. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Hey, I like anchovies, I don't care.
Starting point is 00:56:00 I don't care. I'm gonna lose. Do you know what I read also? I can't remember if I read it in the hustle or my morning brew or whatever, but reading about Joe Rogan and the whole, you know, Spotify acquisition with him and everything like that. What's your guys' theories on like how that's working out? You guys have any theories on how that's working out? I think bringing up in that article that basically the numbers of what he lost versus what you read it. I just, like, a little bit.
Starting point is 00:56:24 I bet he's got a smaller audience. That's what I think. Yeah, so it's actually, so the, now of course, there's lots of speculation here. One, we don't know the exact number. There's rumors that somewhere between 100 and under 200 million. So the, I've heard, Brennan Shopp confirm that it's more than 100. Right.
Starting point is 00:56:43 I've heard people say it's high as 200. Oh, how much they paid them? Yeah, how much did he make? So I think the buyout was somewhere between a hundred, so let's just say $150 million is probably somewhere in that vicinity that he got paid to give exclusive rights. But I mean, I guess he is completely lost
Starting point is 00:57:00 his rights to really market and advertise to his audience almost every way. That's part of what I think they got by getting him over. So the audience supposedly is shrank. And they use like YouTube downloads, they use like his consistent growth huge for his audience, for sure. And it completely is, it's all, it's slowed down dramatically. And now there's also, you could speculate that Joe has also came out and has been talking a lot more open about his feelings on COVID and all this.
Starting point is 00:57:33 So that, so it could be more that that maybe, maybe hurting him right now. I'm sure it has to do with less accessibility. You have to modify it. You don't have access. Whereas before it was very accessible. That's the conclusion that they're coming up with, and not only that, but they think that what he gave up for that.
Starting point is 00:57:49 And when you think about it, I mean, you think about what are, our little humble business that we built over here, and we're nowhere near the size of Joe Rogan, a $100 million, if you've built a really successful business, and imagine his size. Imagine if he had the infrastructure that we've built here with our tiny business with that, like a hundred million,
Starting point is 00:58:09 I know you guys wouldn't take a hundred million dollars. There's no way. Unless you're like ready to, let's try to cash out and be done. Yeah, like whatever. But he's not cash now, he's got to work, which I don't know what the contract, do you guys remember it?
Starting point is 00:58:19 Was it like a five or a 10 year contract? Yeah, I was gonna say how long was the contract? Yeah, I think it locked him up for a while. So he ain't retiring or going anywhere for a while. So I don't know, I don't know. Interesting. Did Spotify, is this was this a good or bad investor? Spotify came out.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Because it's growing there because Joe had so much pool that some people said, I'm gonna download Spotify now and start paying for Spotify just so I get access to Rogan. So he's, it was a steal for them. So a hundred million dollars for someone who has that much influence and power, that's kind of what the article was saying was like, he undersold himself for sure. So regardless if he, you know, it's been, you know, it was a, it was a big cash out. So that's great.
Starting point is 00:59:00 But the potential of money that that guy can make. But it's kind of smart, though,, because like imagine how many of his YouTube podcasts would have been flagged and pulled. You know, he was going through that a bunch. It's true. Well, I'm sure that had a lot to do with why he made the deal. Yeah. He was probably getting tired of all that bullshit
Starting point is 00:59:20 and censoring and risking it, you know, getting pulled. And so I'm sure that would have helped persuade him to do it. But I just thought it was interesting that his, it's, you know, stuff came out that he is audience, it makes sense to your point, Sal, that he restrict people that could see it. Hey real quick, before we transition to the questions,
Starting point is 00:59:36 you know, I mentioned get this on our store, Doug just put up on the screen here that there's gonna be a huge Labor Day sale. So all the stuff on our store is gonna be on sale over the Labor Day weekend. So that's coming up. I forgot it's coming up. We got a lot of stuff in there. All of our TRX bands, actually, you know, she's called suspension bands. Yeah, suspension. That actual brand. Yeah. Yeah. No, we must have. Did you see that? So yesterday was my first workout. I haven't. Oh yeah. So are you back? Yeah. Well, I was my official first like full workout and I wasn't sure how I was gonna go It actually went really good. So I felt your energy looks a lot better. I felt you look healthier. I felt great
Starting point is 01:00:13 Plus we all got haircuts. Thank you Vicky you were starting to look at me stew Taliban Who's in a game? Can she have two weeks off? I can't happen again. It won't bunker down. But no, I was talking to my Instagram audience that, and I shared on that story, because we really don't promote
Starting point is 01:00:34 the suspension training program that much. I mean, we did it at the very beginning of COVID, because obviously it was, when we couldn't get equipment, I think it was a good alternative. But this is an example of where I really like something like this. I think it has tremendous value by itself. I think it's amazing if you're traveling and on the go and it says, all you need, you
Starting point is 01:00:53 can do it from a tree if you wanted to. But I also think that this is a great time for someone like me who's consistently lifting barbell dumbbell exercises. And then also, I have this three, four weeks where I completely don't do anything. It's a great way for me to reintroduce exercise back. I mean, I'm literally sore everywhere. You stabilize the whole body.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Yeah. And it feels like that too. I'm doing push-ups on it. I can just feel everything shaking and drilling in. It really gets the issue. Oh, that's CNS just waking up and firing. So I'm going to run through our suspension training program with a little bit of a modification.
Starting point is 01:01:28 I'm gonna do some things a little bit different, but I'm gonna follow it pretty closely for a while. People will watch the show and see the transformation. Yeah, so I'm gonna start doing it. But again, I think a great place when you haven't been training consistently to kind of restart your back in before doing heavy barbell lifts. Real quick, I hope you're enjoying this episode. Go check out one of our partners, Oli Pop.
Starting point is 01:01:48 Now they make these really tasty sodas that remind me a lot of the drinks that I had when I was a kid. For example, the one I'm holding my hand is strawberry vanilla. It tastes really good, but here's a trippy part. No sugar or very little sugar. Sorry, three grams of sugar, 35 calories,
Starting point is 01:02:03 and it has compounds that are good for your gut health. So this is a soda that tastes like the soda as you grew up drinking except very low calorie, almost no sugar, and it's good for your gut. No joke, I'm not making this up. Head over to drinkalliepop.com, forward slash, mind pump, use the code mind pump, and get 15% off your purchase. All right, enjoy the rest of this episode.
Starting point is 01:02:28 First question is from Ren Ammiaya. How do you make your biceps appear thicker when viewed from the front? I've been doing wide grip curls and pull ups, but only the peak seems to grow. Okay, so in some cases, close the camera like so. Yeah, whoa. That's an arm right there, Justin. Always hide those bad boys.
Starting point is 01:02:51 So here's the issue. Some muscles, you can target and shape because they're large and because they have attachments that are a little further away from each other. For example, theoretically, you could work more of the upper chest and the lower chest just because of the attachments here on the sternum. The biceps, it does have two heads to it.
Starting point is 01:03:10 So there's two main segments of the bicep, but they attach it kind of the same place. So thicker, more peak, really, you're just developing the bicep. Now that being said, yeah, but what about like the brachialis? Yes, the brachialis, which runs underneath, and that's on like the side of the bicep. I was just going to say develop that. It'll give you
Starting point is 01:03:29 that illusion. Yeah, because theoretically, you could train the brachialis, which is also a flexor that could theoretically give you a little bit more bicep thickness. Now, here's what I like to tell people. I like to tell people try doing hammer curls. It works that muscle. Also, a lot of people don't do hammer curls. Yeah, as a matter of fact, hammer curls, reverse curls, if you don't have those in your routine, it would be a great exercise, or even Zotman curls, throwing those in there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:54 So those three movements, I would do that. But this idea of changing the shape of a muscle with exercises is something that people that love, clickbait, and to sell you things we'll try and do. And the truth is, if you already do reverse curls and hammer curls all the time, and you're very consistent with doing that, then actually picking an exercise that technically isn't for that,
Starting point is 01:04:18 that's for the bicep that you never do will probably show more thickness in your bicep. So if you're really into arm training and bicep training in particular, here's the things to focus on, right? So you can focus on curls with varying hand position because the hand, and you can see here, I was moving my bicep affects the bicep.
Starting point is 01:04:35 So supinated versus pronated, that also will involve, you know, brachial radialis, which is here on the forearm, brachialis, which is under the bicep. And then here's the thing you can focus on, elbow placement when you're doing the exercise. So exercise with the arm next to your body, preach your curls or spider curls
Starting point is 01:04:51 where the elbows in front of the body. And you can even do exercises. Do you do weight exercises? It's chin ups. Well, that's a mass builder, right? Curl grip, right? Chin ups. Well, I don't know what we're talking about.
Starting point is 01:05:01 Yeah, well, really. You guys keep talking about thickness and whatever. Well, no, I'm just saying supinated grip, right? More b about it. Yeah, well really. You guys keep talking about thickness and whatever. Well, no, I'm just saying supinated grip, right? More bicep activation. Here's the thing with, like, as you can make a case for all these different exercises, and the thing that I'm just gonna keep hammering home is that it's the exercise that you don't do.
Starting point is 01:05:17 When you want to develop a muscle more, right? Yes, that we've talked about, there's a hierarchy in exercises, right? As far as like these are more, these are superior to others. But if you do all those superior exercises, you've checked all the boxes for a long time, then simply doing an exercise that your body is unfamiliar with. They're not good at it. Yeah, and you're not good at it.
Starting point is 01:05:39 And good at that exercise is going to show change in development in that area, and that goes for any muscle. And so, more importantly than, you know, trying to make the case for this exercise targets this part, it's like, okay, if you train these movements, try training a different movement for that. And that's always been my experience. I'll do this new action. Oh, wow, drag curls.
Starting point is 01:06:00 Let me try that. Oh, my God, it totally works. And then you just talked about it today with your chest. Yes. A perfect example of that. Yeah. So I bet if I just did that and I went to an incline dumbbell press, I'd be like, oh my God, it's the same thing.
Starting point is 01:06:11 Next question is from Mason Burnt. What are the pros and cons of mass gainer protein? Oh, I'm gonna stick you guy in the room now. Yeah. You do, you know, they're not as popular. They're not as popular as they used to be. That's why, don't you think? Oh, bro.
Starting point is 01:06:26 You would light up the room if you had a lot of these. So these are the ones that come in these huge canisters, like this big, and like you take, what? 900, at least, at a time. This was a huge market in the 90s. Not so much now, but in the 90s, this was one of the big money makers.
Starting point is 01:06:44 And, you know, they, like, I think twin lab, gain, this was one of the big money makers. And I think Twin Lab, Gainers Fuel was one of the ones that was starting to be popular. Scyto Gainers. Scyto Gainer, heavyweight Gainer, 900, that one still exists, and Mega Mask came out. And what they would do is the number kept going up. I remember it was like the Mask Gainer Wars. So it would be like, 500 calories a shake,
Starting point is 01:07:01 and then they're like, 900 calories a shake. That's how it got to the point where there were shakes that were 4,000 calories. How did they make that happen? They, well, they pack them full of carbohydrates. I feel like a bucket for a bucket. And that was the other thing.
Starting point is 01:07:15 I remember the first time I bought masking or 4,000, it literally looked like a paint bucket. And I'm like, oh my God, they fit 4,000 calories in a serving. Then I opened the lid and there was a scoop in there. I'm not exaggerating, it was that big and you put, it was like, it was like six servings in this huge bucket and I had sand chival. Dude, I'd put it in the blender, turn it on and it was like, my mom's like old school high powered blender was almost gonna break.
Starting point is 01:07:40 Like, whoa, no wonder. And then you have to add whole milk to the whole thing. So, all right, pros and cons. Pros, convenient, cheap way to get lots of calories, cons. It's not the best. Yeah, it's not the best calories. It's a lot of multiple dextrin
Starting point is 01:07:55 and cheap protein, typically. And food is better. Other pro, it's sometimes easier to drink calories when you're trying to force feed. I guess yourself, if you're a hard gainer I could see the value here. I think though you're probably better off buying a high quality protein shake and then adding stuff to adding food oats fruit and berries peanut butter eggs like so my major con with these because I went on a Kick for a while with this stuff is when would you drink them by the way before ban or?
Starting point is 01:08:25 I mean, I do everything. I've set the alarm in the middle of the night. I drink before workouts, after workouts, start my day, eat a meal, then do it. I mean, you name it. I have tried eating a mask in here at different times of the day for whatever reasons, right? Or trying to maximize the absorption of it, right, right after your workout. The thing that I noticed when I was doing it consistently is, I've never been able to compare how my body responds
Starting point is 01:08:50 when I get most, if not all of my calories from real food. And being a hard gainer, when I would start calculating the shake up and I'm like, oh, well, 1100 of my calories are coming from this, then I only got to go get 2,000 more calories in whole foods. I just never felt like I got the same results as if I ate 35 or 4,000 calories of whole foods. And so I got away from doing the mask inters completely.
Starting point is 01:09:18 I even said, I don't want to take a shake unless I have to. Unless I'm missing my protein and it's late. And so now like when I do shakes, it's always in the evening time. And it's only because I wasn't able to get enough protein and take from my whole foods. And then when I do it, if I'm on a game, I use oats, I use fruit, I use peanut butter,
Starting point is 01:09:40 I use eggs and I add it to that and make my own gainer shake. And I just feel like getting those whole foods blended up with this 300, 400 calorie regular protein shake gave me more benefits than these, you know, dextrose loaded full of fiber 900 calorie plus shakes. It just literally made me shit 30 minutes later. Oh dude, that stomach's just talking the entire day. I remember that like with these shakes,
Starting point is 01:10:04 it just would not resonate and it was very loud like you could hear me like After on the bathroom this is when this is that story I told you guys a long time ago when I was a 15 And I'm in the pool and I'm like oh, they're getting a heavyweight gainer 900 hit me all of a sudden And I ran out of the pool and getting the bathroom and because my drawstring was wet, I couldn't undo it and basically shit my skull. That's a true story. And that's when I kind of swore off on like,
Starting point is 01:10:32 this is not, this is why it's not gonna make me gain mass. Risk versus reward. Yeah, this is not really working. Here's something, if you're a young kid, you're looking for the convenience, you're looking to save money, and it's hard for you to eat all the calories that you need to get in order to gain mass or whatever
Starting point is 01:10:48 Just do this get a high quality protein shake You can buy away protein now very inexpensive if you can't you know you can or GANIFI makes good protein. We work with them Take that add whole milk, okay, and you want to add more calories throw some peanut butter taste great and you've got extra protein A little bit of carbs from the high calorie. Dry oats. Dry oats, if you want to add even more carbs. I used to throw a half a cup to a cup of dry oats, blitzed up in there, and it actually tastes good.
Starting point is 01:11:13 Yeah, no, I loved it. Next question is from Folvio the Castle. Should I train behind the neck pull downs or overhead presses to achieve better mobility, or is it just too dangerous? So this is one of those exercises that I was taught, I was actually taught as a trainer, never teach. So when I first got my first certification, they said never do overhead presses behind the neck,
Starting point is 01:11:37 never do pull downs behind the neck, totally bad for the shoulders. In fact, I remember the instructor doing this, the instructor stood up, got a towel, so he had a regular towel and he twisted it and he bent it and he's like, this is what you're doing to the muscles of the shoulder when you go behind the neck and so I was like,
Starting point is 01:11:53 oh my gosh, I'm so afraid of these. Later on, because all the bodybuilders did these exercises and I thought to myself, you know, it can't be that bad. Let me try it out. I first tried it out and I didn't necessarily have the mobility, so I would shorten the range of motion and go real light. Eventually I could do them full range of motion,
Starting point is 01:12:11 and then eventually I could add load, and it made my shoulder mobility better. Now, is this the best way to achieve better shoulder mobility? No, but I will say this, if you can't do an exercise, what you should probably do is figure out how to be able to do that exercise with good stability and good mobility because you're just improving your body's ability to move and your shoulders should be able to do things with exercises behind the neck.
Starting point is 01:12:39 Now, the only reason why it's dangerous is a lot of people can't do it, so they have to get themselves to be able to do it. Yeah, I'm gonna say that 99% of you should do the mobility work first and get that done and then go to movements like this. And the reason, although I will say I did what you did. So I actually was, while I was also working on shoulder mobility, I was also doing behind the neck presses when I didn't really have the full motor and I started with just the bar.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Now, here's the thing you gotta to, if you do that, okay, because that's totally fine, you could do that, you could start super lightweight and just get used to, is you have to understand how the body compensates in order for you to do that. Yeah. So one of the things, and what I mean by that, is so when I went from somebody who always showed the press in the front, okay, now I'm going to start these behind the neck.
Starting point is 01:13:22 Well, what I noticed when I do this, my low back arches and I slide and I probably push your head forward. And then you push the head forward. And so I would have to get in that position. And then I would have to tight my core, rotate my pelvis, keep that in that position. And then really slow and controlled. You just do it with a broomstick to start. Yeah. So you have to, you have to know how the body is going to cheat when you go to do that if you don't have the right prerequisite. First, lots of imperative, you pass the wall test, you pass these things that we've sort of outlined
Starting point is 01:13:55 in terms of points of contact. If you can't maintain it, it's sort of like, there has to be a pre-qualifier in there to be able to do, because it is an understand why certifications did sort of, like put that out there, like, they didn't want trainers basically jumping their clients into these, because they do put you at a little bit more risk,
Starting point is 01:14:13 but there's a lot of value in them once you have the mobility and the strength to be able to pull it off, it really does stimulate the muscles and different ones. Well, that's why this is so important, because imagine I don't know that, but I start working on that behind the head with a bar and then I add 25s and then 45s.
Starting point is 01:14:30 Meanwhile, the whole time I've got this massive arch in my back and pushing my head forward in order for me to do it. Yeah, less than ideal movement in your risk of injury now goes up. Way up. So to me, I wouldn't recommend somebody do it. It's like how we talk about the barefoot training thing, right?
Starting point is 01:14:45 Like, if you never barefoot train, like you shouldn't all of a sudden go run, your mile run every day, barefoot, like for the first time, start with just walking outside barefoot for a while and start building that up before you start. Well, that's why I liked to, like, Z-Press was a great one in terms of,
Starting point is 01:15:01 like, really figuring out whether you have the drastic stabilization, you know, to be able to keep everything, all those, you know, keep the bracing mechanisms in place so it protects your spine. Yeah, this person should get maps performance. So if you don't have maps performance like because we do the Z press in there, we address mobility stuff in there. So this is a perfect program for somebody who wants to get to a place where they can do these movements and to progress them the right way there Instead of just jumping to it and risking injury
Starting point is 01:15:29 The next question is from hoop golf 89 if you had to quit drinking or weed forever Which would it be oh my god, that's easy easy drinking well, they don't even drink see you later Yeah, well, no, I mean since the biotics I now will incorporate some alcohol because it does prevent the shitty feeling the next day, which is why I never drink. I would always feel garbage the day after. But look, if you look at the data, the data now is very clear. Both have their own risks, but if you had to compare them, and you're a
Starting point is 01:16:01 health and fitness fanatic, of course, both can be abused, both can cause problems. So I'm not saying one is perfect and one isn't, and anything can be abused also. But if you had to compare them both with moderate usage and you wanted to look at effects on, body composition increased heart rate, increased heart disease risk, increased cancer risk,
Starting point is 01:16:21 you know, all the stuff, alcohol clearly is worse for your body. Clearly. Even a little bit of alcohol isn't good for your body. Cannabis, on the other hand, marijuana, first off, if you smoke marijuana, that's the worst way to consume it because there's the most negative effects from it. That being said, they have yet to connect smoking marijuana to lung cancer, probably because of the anti-cancer effects of the actual cannabinoids in cannabis. The best way to consume it is to eat it, right?
Starting point is 01:16:49 So edible form, so you eliminate that part. Now what are the studies show with cannabis? Can it have a negative effect on the brain? Yes, it can cause loss of motivation, some issues with serotonin dopamine. But does it cause the negative effects on the body, like alcohol? No, not even close. Alcohol is way worse for your body than cannabis. So if I had to pick one, it would be that.
Starting point is 01:17:11 But they did, they have shown in studies like in terms of developmental minds, there's issues in terms of... Oh yeah, I'm talking about, we can't be talking about underminers right now. No, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's where my, you know, just caution goes out, but like, yes,
Starting point is 01:17:24 and I've become more of a fan of cannabis because of the cannabinal dials and you guys and just it's kind of an interesting thing. Like it's not, it's not like when you're first exposed to it. When it was illegal and like your friend would, you know, show you something, you'd get like way too paranoid, and it was a bad experience. Basically, going straight to whiskey, and you're drinking nothing but shots instead of starting with beer.
Starting point is 01:17:53 There's a different way to consume it. If you're more educated around it, and you can get high strains of CBD, and you don't have to go completely off the deep end, right away. But yeah, to me, I've slowly become more of a fan of it, but I'm still, I mean, occasional whiskey and drinks. So go share answer.
Starting point is 01:18:13 Yeah, I'm gonna go with the alcohol, because it's just in my blood. So you keep it, you keep it. I'm keeping it up. You have to give it a lot forever. So you just brought up something though that is kind of an interesting thought. I'm keeping it up. I'm keeping it up. I'm keeping it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up.
Starting point is 01:18:27 I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up.
Starting point is 01:18:35 I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up.
Starting point is 01:18:43 I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. I keep it up. actually, if my high school son came to me and said, dad, I'm gonna smoke weed or I'm gonna drink alcohol, I would actually rather him drink alcohol. Okay, well, hold on, context matters. K-cell, are they both, would they both be non-abusive? In other words? Yeah, of course not. I would never let my son or encourage any of this.
Starting point is 01:18:56 And I would have the right conversation. I'm just saying, if I had, if I had this was the rule. Like they went out with their buddies every once in a while. They're gonna smoke a joint versus drink. I'd wanted to drink. No way. Even if you look, not for me, even if you look, by the way, by the way son, if you're watching this,
Starting point is 01:19:10 do neither, but I'm not saying do you want to watch us. Yeah, no, he doesn't, but at some point, maybe somebody will send him this video. And if I find out, steady becomes a porn star. No, yeah, exactly. No, when you look at the developmental effects that cannabis has on the brain, it does, but compared to alcohol, it's also better.
Starting point is 01:19:29 So that's alcohol also, also has some, does some fucking children. It's dangerous. Yeah, it's definitely, there's a dangerous element to alcohol. But yeah, but that's, so here's part of, and of course, I mean, we're just playing a game right now. Probably, you know what?
Starting point is 01:19:41 I know where you're going though, but we're in the development of, the developmental mind, yeah, that's where, I was, here's the problem. When we're in terms of the developmental mind. Yeah, that's where I was. But here's the problem. When we grew up, the kids that smoked a lot of weed were fucking losers. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:50 And now why? They were willing to be rid of the law. Unmotivated, too. Yes. And everybody drank alcohol. So that's why. And I feel like it's easier to disguise weed throughout the day and do an all time like it's like you're not as a kid.
Starting point is 01:20:03 Although there's acceptance of the role, there's kids that came to school drunk. It's a lot harder to disguise that and do that. I do all the time. Like it's like you're not as a kid. Although there's acceptance of the role, there's kids that came to school drunk. It's a lot harder to disguise that and do that. I feel like that you can eat it. And because there's so much research around marijuana and that it has some health benefits. So that's so bad that I mean, I went, I had this conversation with my brother when so he was,
Starting point is 01:20:21 so he's what 12 years younger than me. So I was 28 when I was doing the cannabis industry. So was that put him out? 16. 16 years old, right? So he's in high school and his older brother has got dispensary clubs, you know? And so, and he wasn't really into weed yet,
Starting point is 01:20:38 but he was starting to dabble with stuff and drinking all that. And I remember having this conversation with them where my biggest concern was like, listen, I really didn't get introduced to this until I was in my late 20s. And I had already had built a career and had success and worked hard and built good habits and fitness and reading and like that had all come together for me already at this point in my life.
Starting point is 01:21:01 And then I get introduced this awesome thing that makes me chill out and veg out and watch TV and put my feet up and get the munchies and laugh and have a good time. And I absolutely loved it because I had already developed a responsible mind, but being introduced to that, it's such a young age and you get all those cool effects. Totally. I just feel like it's really easy for a young mind
Starting point is 01:21:22 to go like, oh, this is totally fine. No big deal. And then before they know it, they're unmotivated and they don't get shit done. And I feel like I watched my little brother do that. And he's now getting closer to 30. And he's still kind of... Now he abuses it.
Starting point is 01:21:37 Yeah, of course. You know what, I'll tell you what, dude. Okay, if you want to talk about abuse, okay, think of people who abuse weed, stoners, fucking, you know, unmotivated okay, think of people who abuse weed, stoners, fucking, you know, unmotivated, whatever. Think of people who abuse alcohol. Yeah, well, you're fucked. Like you'll kill you overdose. Wait, let's comment though and the high school kids, right? Like you really, I mean, I don't even remember I think I remember one or two kids that, you know, I would consider alcoholics or that were like sneaking out. You know why though?
Starting point is 01:22:04 It's believe it or not. This is 100% true. When I was in high school, it was harder to get alcohol than it was to get weed. Well, it's still that way today. Yeah. Still that way today. Because it's a regulated,
Starting point is 01:22:14 that's another reason why again, I would be more that I'll be more inclined to caution my son with his cannabis use. Because I already know the laws are to put enough restrictions in the way for him for alcohol. Plus, you're not gonna buy, to caution my son with his cannabis use, because I already know the laws are to put enough restrictions in the way for him for alcohol. Plus, you're not gonna buy,
Starting point is 01:22:29 what's he gonna buy, moonshine? You can't really get alcohol on my computer. Right, so I'm saying, it's like the laws have already put enough restrictions in his way to making alcohol become like a daily thing, plus it'd be easy for me to tell if my son's getting drunk before school and so on. But hiding cannabis and smoking it here and there all the time and it becoming a regular
Starting point is 01:22:48 thing and access to it, I would be more worried about that. And then him kind of going down that path for a rest of your life. You make a really good point. My strategy is that when my kids are old enough legally, and I've already told my kids this, the first time you really drink and the first time you try anything, that's legal, you'll do it with me. Because I feel like... I'm not. I feel like I would like to do it.
Starting point is 01:23:11 Because they're gonna do it anyway. They're gonna try it anyway. Whether they do it before they legally can or after, if my kids, if they become goody-touchy, I'm sure they'll try it when they at least become legal, they'll say, let me see what this is all about. And I know my first experience with, my family never drank alcohol.
Starting point is 01:23:25 I know Italians typically drink, my house never had any alcohol. So my first experience with drinking was, I got way too smashed. And because I didn't, I had same experience. I had no experience. I didn't know what to experience.
Starting point is 01:23:39 So I bet if I did it with my parents and they did it with me and we had a good time and they said, no, slow down. And here's what it would have helped. And so I would want did it with my parents and they did it with me and we had a good time and they said no, slow down and here's what it would have helped. And so I would want that experience with my kids so that they develop more responsible, so used. I mean, your son's in high school now. So have you told him this yet?
Starting point is 01:23:56 Yeah, I did. Oh, so you've already told him that. I've had this conversation. You've already said, son, when it's time comes, you wanna try something. Oh, I'm gonna, it's, it's in the same school. I'm gonna wait till he has his birthday and I'm gonna say, hey, do you wanna try something. Oh, I'm going to, it's, it's in the same thing. I'm going to wait till he has his birthday, and I'm going to say, hey, do you want to try this?
Starting point is 01:24:07 And we'll do this together. And we'll go a little bit, and I'll show you, because the same thing with cannabis, now, you know, drinking too much alcohol, that can have some really scary, like, like, help, like you could die. You won't die from too much weed, but you'll feel like you'll fucking die.
Starting point is 01:24:20 I mean, I, I remember as a kid overdosing that, I was terrified. Oh, yeah. I think that's the, the interesting part, and the, about that, I remember as a kid overdosing that, it was terrifying. Oh, yeah. That was very true. I think that's the interesting part and the about that. I think as a parent, when you look at it, and we have all the years experience of being around all this stuff and using it,
Starting point is 01:24:32 is that it's almost more dangerous that we doesn't have as much negative stuff tied to it as alcohol does, you know? Like, you think alcohol, then you think like hard drugs, like cocaine, and you think psilocybin, LSD, all these things. Kids are like, most good kids, at least I was like this, like that's scared of all that stuff,
Starting point is 01:24:52 because you heard all this stuff where, you know, weed has gotten a thing now where it's pretty cool. Like it's innocuous. It's not gonna do anything. Yeah, so I would be, all you need is one overdose on THC to know that is not. That is a terrible thing. And it's less about that and more just to becoming
Starting point is 01:25:09 accepted as like, I get high all the time. You know, and then also, and I've got this kid who's stoned every day and ain't doing shit with his life and doesn't think anything's wrong with it because we it's not bad for me, you know what I'm saying? But it's like, you ain't doing shit with your life because you're not present ever and not fucking realizing what's going on.
