Starting point is 00:00:00 If you want to pump your body and expand your mind, there's only one place to go. MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, MIND, with your hosts. Salda Stefano, Adam Schaefer, and Justin Andrews. Man, fuck Justin, we don't need him. You know what? It's the Salan Adam show. No, just kidding. You know what I want to say before I talk about this guest that we have on the show, something about this particular guest.
Starting point is 00:00:27 When we first started Mind Pump, there were a few podcasts that we looked up to because we listened to them and we'd say, God, they are doing something right. And one of them... It's funny when you say looked up to like that. Like, hey, there was a few podcasts I think that had figured this formula out.
Starting point is 00:00:47 They were just doing it right, you know, and, well, I don't even know if it's that, because how, how can we say what's right or wrong? And let's who's to say how we're, in our opinion, where it's going to evolve. What we, we recognize that they were doing something different than everybody else that was really working well, and that drew all of us to listening to. We're talking about the fighter and the kid. And this was a podcast that all of us listened to when we first started. We thought it was hilarious. We thought the chemistry between Brendan Chobb and Brian Callan was just incredible.
Starting point is 00:01:17 And we talked about, oh man, you know, we're starting this podcast, mind pump. Like once it gets, you know, to a certain point, it'd be so awesome to meet those guys or one of those guys have them on our show. And here we are. We got to interview Brendan Shaw in LA, and he's a fucking great dude.
Starting point is 00:01:37 What a great dude. Being a podcaster and getting a chance to finally meet him in person and talk to him, and getting a chance to finally meet him and person and talk to him. There is such an art to what that man does every time he gets on the show. And we get to, you guys get a chance today, we get into this, which I thought was really fun. And by the way, he gave us a really nice plug on Fiery and the Kid the other day. Which is so cool. Yeah, and what was neat was, you know, and I take a lot of pride in what we do on
Starting point is 00:02:06 on my pump, which is why we named it my pump and we didn't want to be, you know, a fitness-only show. Muscle pump? Right. I wanted, I wanted, I wanted to be able to interview someone like him and not only ask him questions that are related to diet and working out. And he talks about how he thought that that was what he was going to get. He was dod he talks about how he thought that that was what he was going to get. He was dodging the interview because he thought that that's where we would go. And we never had any intentions of going around. No, we don't we talk a lot about him, about his transition from MMA to podcasting to comedy. He is a great storyteller. So it's a very entertaining episode.
Starting point is 00:02:46 It's really easy to listen to. Great story, huh? Easy to talk to. We had a lot of fun with him. So he co-hosts the podcast, The Fighter in the Kid, which is hilarious. We've mentioned it many times. He also has a podcast called The Big Brown Breakdown,
Starting point is 00:03:01 which is another great podcast. You can find Brendan Shob on Instagram, Brendan is spelled B-R-E-N-D-A-N. Shob is S-C-H-A-U-B. He's on Facebook and Twitter as well, and then their website is www.tfa.tk.com. So it was a great time meeting this guy and getting a chance to finally interview someone we had talked about interviewing way back when.
Starting point is 00:03:30 So here we are talking to Brendan Schaub. What is that transition been like? Have you got any Heckler? I imagine mostly are fans that are coming to see you anyways. Yeah. Not too much Heckler. I had one Heckler in Australia and... What was he saying?
Starting point is 00:03:45 You just loud like there's different screen hecklers and then just drunk fans like that are annoying this guy I think I did like nine shows in five days in Australia all over playing playing playing playing playing And The we do meet in greats but are after every show like dude You have two shows back-to-back theaters. It's gonna be a beast. You gotta do the meet and greet before. I'm like, that's so weird, but let's do it. So I do it and this group of just bros comes up, that's my fan.
Starting point is 00:04:11 But they always come up. Yeah, if you're single girl for sure, come to the show for a man. So they like do the head and hardly. Dude, they come up and they're hammered. These Australian dudes are hammering. I'm like, man, it is six o'clock. My man I don't start to eight like you guys need a chill calm down. It's gonna be a long night
Starting point is 00:04:29 like I'm doing it. I'm like, all right, and so I start to show them their laughing at things that they're not even the punch line They're laughing at things that aren't funny at all and it's disturbing the crowd and then they start chanting things like from the show or something My reference before I just go, I got a chill out, fellas, a chill out man, they keep going and then they start getting nasty. And I'm trying to power through it. And then finally I'm just like, I haven't had to deal with a lot of hecklers.
Starting point is 00:04:54 So I just stopped and was like, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, I went, fellas. I, Tony, he's a buddy of mine, you know, Tony, Tony Smolgay. Tony, was there like two months before, so they knew who he was. They went to a show and they told me I was in the mean greet.
Starting point is 00:05:08 What fell is, I'm not Tony Hingecliff. I'm not your normal comedian. If you don't shut the fuck up, I will come down there with this giant brown hand in front of everyone and slap the fuck out of the four of you. And just pipe down the rest of the night. Dude, you know what, that's true. You have that.
Starting point is 00:05:23 You can pull that card. No, no other comedian can pull that card. No, no, the community can pull that card. It's not good though. It's not good. Well, the show was fun because they were laughing at them. But if I've gone that route, like I've had to do trial and error here. And if I brag, if I talk about my size or looks,
Starting point is 00:05:39 it is shut there. It puts people in the defense like Jesus Christ. Oh, wow. Yeah, they're like, oh, well, they thought what's like, I look, and I'm not, I've never been in bully, but I look like the guy who bullied you in high school. So that's not funny. So I have to build, you know, knock down those walls.
Starting point is 00:05:54 I need you there. You have to come in with like horrible posture. No, I'm myself, I'm not a bully. I just, you know, you just do funny stuff that's real, and eventually you build down those walls. The problem is when I do all my sets at the comedy store, I've sunset, that's not my fan base. They have no idea who I am. I cover my tattoos 99% of the time. I try to look, you know, dapper, and there it's like, you know, you're dealing with people that don't know you.
Starting point is 00:06:19 What's harder fighting or trying to make people laugh? Completely different. Completely, I'm saying. I'm just like, I'm always nervous before any show, but I'm never like before a fight I was terrified for my life, you know. But in stand up, listen, if you put the work in, you know, you should not fuck up. And can I cast on it? I try not to.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Please do. I try not to. But I was stand up, you should not fuck up. And can I guess on that? I try not to. Oh, please do, I try not to. But I was standing up, you should know. I'm getting my training in at the comedy store. So in fighting, I could, you know, I can say this in confidence, I worked, everyone I've ever fought. As far as training camp, no one outworked me.
Starting point is 00:07:01 There's no fucking way. You'd have to be a robot on PDs. Maybe they were, but no one outworked me. However, in that octagon, I can't control the other guy. I just can't, man, he might, they happen to be really fucking good. And sometimes I get punched in the face in comedy. Man, I've put the work in.
Starting point is 00:07:17 If it doesn't work, it's on me usually. Or the crowd, you know. At what point did you make that switch mentally that you realized, because you made it all the way, you're in the UFC, so it's not, you made it to the top, right? at what point did you make that switch mentally that you realized because you made it all the way, you're in the UFC. So it's not, you made it to the top, right? At what point did you make that switch and say like, I'm over this, this is where I'm going. And was that a hard transition for you to let go of, of fighting? Scary. I just say scary. And I reference scary a lot. I'm a scared person general. But um, uh, it was, it was like this process where each fight,
Starting point is 00:07:46 the passion, the fire's not there, and that's when you get hurt. And I just, it was the perfect storm, whether you believe in God or not, I'm not the most religious person, but whoever's up there, whatever the earth was just going to do, get out of fighting. You can go do this for God's sake.
Starting point is 00:08:00 I was like, no, I'm gonna keep doing this. And then you have to say, oh, you make a lot of money in sponsorships, well, we're signing the Reebok deal. So what else you need us to do to get you over here, man? And then I lose my fight in the locker room. I looked at my team, I told them, I said, this is the last one, man.
Starting point is 00:08:15 And I'm like, oh, come on, I'm like, I swear to God, this is it, this is it, man, I'm done after this. Like, all right, we've had a good camp, just go out there, do your thing. And I went out there, lost, I came back and I was like, I'm at peace with this man, I'm good. I don't want to do this anymore. I got this busted lip.
Starting point is 00:08:30 It's not like I'm freaking 50 cents over here paying the bills. It's just like, this isn't worth it to me, man. There's something more for me. I knew it. There's just something more for me out there. Well, you're already doing fire in the kid, right? You're already doing fire in the kid at this point.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I was doing fire in the kid. And I wasn't doing really well at this point. It was doing good. It was doing, it was doing, yeah, it was doing well. And because were you making more doing that at that point yet from fighting or was it still fighting that was paying the bill? Again, this is, you know, whoever's upstairs,
Starting point is 00:08:57 whoever's controlling this chaos we're living. I remember I got my check for getting punched in the face by Travis Brown, and that came in the mail. And then I got my check for getting punched in the face by Travis Brown And that came in the mail and then I got my check for doing the fire in the kid and the fine kid one was like five grand more Oh wow, I was like god damn it. All right, all right, but then I had the you know the infamous podcast with Joe Rogan where he was like You know, you're terrible at fighting. Let's never know my god. I was like yeah right on cool man Oh my god, thanks asshole and then Then get you guys a lot closer those friends people Oh my God. And I was like, yeah, right on, cool man. Oh my God. That's all. And then, then get you guys a lot closer to those friends.
Starting point is 00:09:27 People, people don't realize that close, Joe. I talk to Joe every day. Every single time I talk to him this morning, every day. Any big decision I have, I talk to him. I guess the broadest closer. Only the closest people can say that, too. You know what I mean? When you know someone that well,
Starting point is 00:09:42 and they say to you, you know, it's still awkward, but. Yeah. Nobody wants to be told that, you're craft, bro. True, true. It was more embarrassing than anything, but I was already done before that, but they're comparing me when he did that,
Starting point is 00:09:55 the athlete and me went, oh, let's prove him wrong. Let's do this. So I was like, I'm gonna cut to two of five and fight just to prove Joe wrong. I got down to like two 18, two 17, I was cutting like crazy. I woke up one morning and looked at me and went, what the fuck are you doing, man? You don't want to do this. You don't have to stop. Wow. Now, how much pushback did you get from the U.S. when you were making
Starting point is 00:10:13 that transition? I think they'd be a little butt hurt over that. I know you openly talk about the sponsorship re-bawking and everything. Which you all appreciate. Did you get any hate from U.S. or did they contact you about shit or trying to quiet you down at all? The only hate I get and all that again with that man, it was the perfect storm So I used to have so much animosity towards Dana White and the U.F.C. and how you know I didn't become world champ and I wasn't this GSP type of star And I had the biggest chip on my shoulder the biggest you could imagine and I was doing the podcast and I would spit fucking fire, man, for the fighters.
Starting point is 00:10:47 That's how I found myself. Yeah, and I would go crazy. And then, you know, you just grow up and mature. And Dana White's not making decisions based off. And I hate to reference myself in third person, I would bear with me. He's not making decisions off Brendan Shob's life. He's not, he's a company to run.
Starting point is 00:11:03 So I don't have any animosity towards him. Zero. Matter of fact, I should probably give him royalties because I would still be fighting if they didn't sign these deals and things didn't end up going bad for me in the UFC. So I don't, I have zero animosity. I would help them out however they need help. In any, that being said, what do you think though
Starting point is 00:11:22 about like the whole rebuy? Is it working out for them? Is it doing well, or are the fighters still having a hard time with it? Yeah, I do think that was a mistake, and again, it's not Reebok's fault. If you're Reebok's fault, it's great. They're going this a good deal. They don't know the lay of the land.
Starting point is 00:11:37 They're going, hold on. We can do all this for this much. Hell yeah, we're in, man. They didn't realize the roots of our sport and the backlash they would get. And it was, I think they're trying to figure it out. I've re-bucked sweats on right now. And they're sending me gear and they do make a lot of good stuff. But, you know, what made the UFC so unique was that individual kind of, you know, the walk-out gear and the walk-out song. And how you want to look like a team, but you got to paint like an ugly ass uniform too.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Yeah, the rough man. So what people don't realize again, it's not Dana's father Reebok's fault, they're feeling us out. They don't know man. And they're living and learning, they're getting better. Well, I get to feel, I mean, I feel like Dana is trying to, I mean, rival the NFL.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Like I feel like he's trying to make that look where everyone's got these teams. You know, that's a pretty thing. Yeah. Again, so in I agree, they're trying to go that look where everyone's got these teen uniformity thing. Yeah, again So and I agree they're they're trying to go that professional route Which if that's what you want to do you have to do that across all? Basis you can't just go. Oh, we're gonna look professional, but then we're gonna pay him like this Mm-hmm. We're gonna look the part of the NFL and then you don't see Roger Gidele going
Starting point is 00:12:39 Oh, that guy fucking sucks. He's the worst of all time you suck he sucks this guy sucks like so if you want It will W if you want to be then a fell be the NFL Trombie W. E be the W. E. but they're trying to teeter this line right now and again They got they sold the company for four billion dollars. Dana's made his money. So right now They're just trying to figure out where they're fine. They're identifying it right now Now when you first started podcasting was it just natural for you? And how did that all start? Yeah, literally start right the street here,
Starting point is 00:13:09 Brian Callan, who's partner in crime, met him and he had his own podcast, The Brian Callan, she'll had like eight listeners. Shut up, you Brian. Shut up, Brian, for that shitty podcast. Where he'd read a book and then tell people what he thought about it. Super. He still has that podcast. It's awful.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Anyway, he goes, oh, we hit off right away and he goes, oh, come on, my podcast. And I didn't even know what a podcast was. And I was like, all right, man. And went on his podcast, we did it. And had a good time. We went for about two hours. We said this weird chemistry and he goes, dude, we should do this
Starting point is 00:13:44 every week. And I was like, oh, absolutely not. And he goes, yeah, let's just talk about fighting. Once a week, I know you're training camping and thinking, well, let's do it. And I went, dude, I'm down to meet with you and talk and record it, but I won't talk about anything but the UFC. Let me talk about lifestyle, clothing, cars, girls,
Starting point is 00:14:01 my dating life. Let me do that and he goes, all right, I guess. Started to do that and we're in his right, I guess, started to do that and we're in his garage and just kept doing it, kept doing it, kept doing it. And then, because you guys have a very, so this is like a live history chemistry.
Starting point is 00:14:14 This is before Fox. Yeah, way before Fox. Okay, yeah, I think we just crossed 300 something episodes. We're like 600 deep, we're bald, yeah, yeah. Oh wow. We have so many more than Fox, but before Fox, we were probably going for about two years. Fox came along, we was like, oh, we're running in podcasting.
Starting point is 00:14:30 We signed with them and the funny thing with that Fox deal. And again, this isn't Fox, it's just them trying to figure out the podcasting way and the way. And they'll listen, we can't pay you guys anything. We really can't pay, but we can make you official. You're part of Fox and we'll give you some help as far as booking guests. We'll give you a studio, we can't pay you guys anything. We really can't pay, but we can make you official, your part of Fox, and we'll give you some help as far as booking guests. We'll give you a studio, we can't pay anything.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Well, that's fine, that's fine. But if the show blows, we get 100% sponsorship advertising. I went, okay, good luck with that. So then fast forward three years later. Oh, you guys worked that out. Yeah, fine. I signed them into a three year deal, four year deal to that. I did not know that. Paying two years later and they're like, what? What? Yeah year deal four year deal to that. I did not know that paying two years later
Starting point is 00:15:05 And they're like what? You guys gotta agree with that. Yeah, we're ballin. We're foring bridges shit So then so then they're like no, we need we need 50 Oh man, I'm gonna shit. Yeah, see you there And then you know, and so they're like well, we need to figure this out man I went oh wishing you a separate ways and that's what we did Did it take off? I mean how long did did take you guys you guys have a very interesting chemistry It's like that X factor that you see sometimes that you can't really plan for everyone's trying to duplicate it
Starting point is 00:15:32 That's it. Did you guys know each other beforehand? Were your friends or was it just no? I met Brian on the set of the ultimate fighter 14 I was there as a grappling coach for the for the guys was Shane Karlin Nate Markhart and they brought Brian in make the kids laugh. He told some terrible wrestling story, no one laughed. And he had stand up that night. And, you know, I've always been in to stand up. I've always wanted to stand up. We went to it. You know, he's hilarious when the best in the world. And that phone week, I was going to move to LA. I was selling all my stuff in Denver. And it was going to move to LA. And I go, Hey, I'm being LA man, actually moving there, he goes,
Starting point is 00:16:05 oh, here's my number, call me, if you're around. And so all my stuff in Denver, told my family I was only gonna be out there for a month. And I'll be back, but I knew I was never coming back. And so I drove out there and I got to my uncle's place, because in the summers I grew up in Venice, literally right here, it's my uncle had a vacation home. So I didn't know anyone. I knew Mark Munoz, if you guys don't
Starting point is 00:16:27 him old school reference. I knew Mark, but that's it. But I knew I couldn't stay in Denver. So I drive sold everything. I get to Venice and I know no one. I remember I got out of like two o'clock at night. I'm sitting on the floor and I just start crying. I'm like, what the fuck did I do? Like I have no friends. I don't know anyone here. I have no idea what team I'm gonna join, like what am I doing? And then I remember I'd Brian's number. I'm like, oh, he's kind of funny, I guess I'll text him.
Starting point is 00:16:51 So I go, hey in town, and it was a little sketchy because you know how the things pop up? I mean, he must've been just yearning for this text. Oh no. Yeah, right here, bro. Where you up, man? I can pick you up in five. Dude, I'm five this way.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And then I'm Kevin Spacey taking it easy. So I was way young, he was older. And then, wow. Yeah, yeah, it's Hollywood after all, right? Yeah, and then I met him for coffee, and then, you know, just kind of hit it off. And then how did the podcast do, when you first started off, was it like
Starting point is 00:17:21 taking off from there? It was good, you know, I mean, between Brian and I's connections as far as me and the fight world, him and the entertainment world, you know, people just wanted to come on. And then we just had this chemistry and what was weird is we found even now, even to this very day, I could have 50 cent,
Starting point is 00:17:38 Conor McGregor, Brad Pitt, it doesn't matter. The show's numbers are the biggest one's just Brian and I. Dude, it's weird. So, your fans love you, that doesn't matter. The show's numbers are the biggest one's just Brian and I. Dude, it's the same. So your fans love you, that's the thing. Your show was actually one of our, one of the shows that we looked up to when we first started is, because we listened to it, you know, a few podcasts.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Like you said, we're trying to be you. Yeah, no, your show was one of the ones that we listened to were like, this is the chemistry they have and the way that they deliver their, you know, their entertainment is unique and this is really good. And it was something that we modeled after. There wasn't a lot of podcasts that were entertaining out there.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I mean, we just kind of went for it and were like, fuck, let's figure this out. Sure. Sure there is in the comedy section. I think that was what was unique about what you guys were doing is you were talking about UFC and actually comedy at the same time. Nobody was doing that. And what you mean by we've modeled after that is we're a fitness podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:26 We've health and fitness is typically what we talk about. But we named it mind pumps would be broad so we could branch out and go the directions. But you guys are all friends. Well, we all not gone initially. Oh, wow. No, we all met before the podcast. Yeah, same similar type of chemistry we sit down
Starting point is 00:18:41 and we just go and do you guys have structure? Do you, because we have none, we sit down. We do. On Big Brown Breakdown, the structure where, you know, I do down and we just go. And do you guys have structure? Because we have none, we sit down. On Big Brown Breakdown, the structure where, I do my homework the night before. So that's my all fight podcast, right? So the night before I do my research, I'll have notes on the wall and make sure I hit them to cover the subjects.
Starting point is 00:18:57 But the firing kid know. We might talk about Kevin Spacey for half an hour or we might talk about lizards, we have no idea. That would go ahead. People tripped out when they that was the one thing about us was we tried to like start planning for it and then the chemistry would get fucked up. So we'd have a guest and we'd be like, oh, we'd take all these notes and then it was awful. That's it's just that's the whole whole way of doing things because the reason one of the reasons TV when I say TV's dying, it's scripted shows are dying,
Starting point is 00:19:26 like talk shows are dying because it's just not organic, it's not natural. They don't, I don't wanna have to, and I've been in this world, I don't wanna have to defend Floyd Mayweather against Conor. I'm team Conors, and they go, well, he's team Conor. So you have to, that's not natural man. And also, we don't have to move on from
Starting point is 00:19:45 a certain subject amount of time. We might go an hour, three hours, we'll do whatever the hell we want. That's how we, if we go, if we might have a talk, I don't know how many times we've had a guest and not even talk about what their profession or what we're trying to do. We try not to. Yeah, because if we get on a topic where we connect on something, I'd rather have a natural conversation and people enjoy that way. It's just a discussion, but also what you realize is that you become a better listener and you're actually interested in what they're saying. So I think, you know, and I just had this audition yesterday
Starting point is 00:20:13 and things went great and it's because the podcast world has helped me out so much is everyone, I'm there at this audition, everyone has, and it's for a TV show. And so everyone has their notes going through it. And you can tell they're thinking of the next subject and I don't give a fuck. I'm just there to have a conversation.
Starting point is 00:20:29 I'm actually engaging what you're saying and whatever's next, I'm not worried about. I'm worried about what's happening right now. Right, right. You can go so much further. Oh, and it comes across that way when you're listening. And it's myself. Right.
Starting point is 00:20:39 If I'm just thinking of what's next, you're not having a conversation. Might as well just be in a booth by yourself. What was your last awkward interview? Have you had one where someone's just so structured, nervous like that, what was the last awkward one you've had? Nothing I'm finding the kid, luckily, we usually know them or they book good guests.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Yeah, but like situations like this where someone's putting you on their podcast. I don't, this is my thing, I don't do a lot of other podcasts, because if I'm gonna say something, I'm gonna say it on mine. That's why I get paid if my listeners are. If so, it's important I'm gonna say it on there.
Starting point is 00:21:11 B, my community of friends is who I'm gonna talk to because if I'm gonna take time to talk with someone, I wanna do what someone who cares about me, like Tom Sager, a Bert Kreischer, Tony Hinchcliffe, Joe Rogan, those are my guys. Joey Diaz. So we have this kind of unique family where it's not that we're this, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:31 podcast network, but we are without contracts. That makes sense. We all care about each other out. Yeah, so it's very rare I do someone else's plot. I did Stone Cold Steve Austin's yesterday just because he's a buddy. Nice hilarious. He is hilarious.
Starting point is 00:21:43 When we basically live next door with you guys, who's your booker? Where's that lady at? Katrina. he's a buddy. Nice hilarious. He is hilarious when we basically live next door with you guys. Who's your booker? Where's that lady at? Katrina. She's not here. She's not here? Katrina, give her a goddamn rating.
Starting point is 00:21:52 I know. That she is really awesome. Katrina, I don't know what they're paying you, but I'll double it. She is a beat. She's not a record. She is a, she is relentless. Cause again, man, and you guys are great.
Starting point is 00:22:02 And you guys know Tony, but I don't do a lot of their podcasts, just because, like I said, I'm gonna have a day off in 17 days. I'm constantly grinding. If I'm gonna say something, I'll go on another show. And again, you guys are great, but she was just so on it. I was like, Jesus Christ.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Well, we, I tell people all the time that she's the most important role to this podcast because it is, especially with busy guys like you. If you're gonna get real guests on the show, they're fucking busy, man. And if you guys have someone, you send an email out and hopefully he'll get back to me. I reached out to you,
Starting point is 00:22:32 the first time was like three years ago, Brendan Abindasio is my buddy. Love that guy. Yeah, so he connected us email. And this was back when you were doing Fox, he connected me via email with you and we never got connected and then The Fox producer I he connected with him and I actually talked to him while you guys were underneath them And he gave me like all kinds of tips and some of the success that you guys were having and what he saw because of it
Starting point is 00:22:56 So that was when we first reached out So I've been trying to get connected with you for a long time You were one of the first podcasts that I ever listened to. I've always been a UFC listener, I love UFC, and then your guy's flavor was like nothing else. I mean, it literally was great because I got to hear about what I love, which is UFC stuff, but then also the entertainment side of it, and that's what you guys.
Starting point is 00:23:17 I appreciate, well I'm glad to do it. I'm not saying that I don't wanna be here. I'm not gonna be here. I'm not gonna be an art of capital for God's sake. I got fucking time, don't give me wrong. I'm just saying, usually I don't care, man. Like, oh, it's a big podcast, don't care. I'm good, man.
Starting point is 00:23:31 I'm only here because she broke my balls for like years. I'm telling you, she's relentless, man. I felt like I owed it to her. Well, like I owed her some shit. Well, do you guys have someone like that who do, I mean, you probably don't need it. You're looking at a man. Oh, you had all that?
Starting point is 00:23:41 You had all that? Me and Brian hand all of it for the most part. No way. Like I said, we used to have a big time book Me and Brian handled all of it for the most part. No way. Like I said, we used to have a big time booker we paid a lot of money and they would bring in guests. We didn't know who they were. We didn't have a relationship with. So it breaks up the dynamic.
Starting point is 00:23:54 So people are like, God, that was so goddamn boring. And it just, not that ratings did, but they didn't grow. So when things aren't growing, I'm like, we're doing something wrong here. Cause we've never had a down month ever. Since we've started every month, it's gotten bigger and bigger. My show, Fine Kid, every month it's grown.
Starting point is 00:24:08 And then when we had that booker, it would barely grow, you know, barely. I'm like, something's going on here, man. So I told Brian, we gotta get rid of her. We gotta get rid of the booker. We're booking this actor who's on Blackish or some shit. I don't watch it. He's here pitching the show.
Starting point is 00:24:21 It was awful. Oh wow. So we've gone through some growing pains, and also you see the dynamic between Brian and I, where, you know, Brian's 50, Brian has his, none of the Brian has a agenda, but he has his life, man. He's a successful comic.
Starting point is 00:24:35 He's not one of the biggest shows, the Goldberg, you know, he's a huge character there. And then he has this business with me. Well, I got my own thing too. And then we have the, you know And then we meet with fighting the kid. So a lot of times, just like in your relationship, we're Brian and I are basically married, hashtag no homo, we're basically married.
Starting point is 00:24:52 So him and I have this dynamic or we need to figure things out. And it just so happens that we wanna air everything. So you're gonna hear some animosity. We're gonna fight for reals. You'll hear his fight on air for reals. Brian and I love Brian. Brian the other day was 45 minutes late.
Starting point is 00:25:08 To me, it's so disrespectful. I've talked about this, Brian knows this. It's so disrespectful. So when we come out there, people are like, God, you're mean to Brian. Like, no, no, you don't understand, man. He's 45 minutes late. I'm shooting this thing for show time.
Starting point is 00:25:19 So that runs into that. So how you fucking up my life. Yeah, there is. So we have this dynamic where I, you know, I love Brian, like a brother. I wouldn't be where I'm at without him. But at the same time, we're in this relationship. And you guys, we've been through some ups and downs.
Starting point is 00:25:32 So as a fan, I'm glad you went this way because I wanted to ask you that because I, it feels like, I mean, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it,. Do you guys struggle with that, like, dude, how should we keep the show going? Because I can pursue my- No, yeah, we always do it, because we enjoy doing it because, you know, one thing about, so I just got this show Greenlet that has been pitching for a while,
Starting point is 00:25:55 start shooting in January, but acting entertainment, you have no idea, man. You have no idea, that could fall at any given time. Counts shot this spin off for the Goldbergs. We thought 100% of us can get picked up. He he he tested high. He thought he was gonna get this whole new spin off. It didn't happen.
Starting point is 00:26:15 But the one thing we can always count on is the fire in the kid. I'm never going I'm never gonna let Brian down. He's never gonna let me down. Now touring is a different animal because we still he used to tour and then we used to tour together and then now I have my own solo stand-up career so we're not doing a lot of fire and kid together. So how's that work? Do you start back loading episodes now
Starting point is 00:26:34 or let me guys meet up? Never, okay. And that, here's another piece of it, but I don't know if you guys do this. Current, but back loading episodes is a bad idea. People can sense the staleness in it. Yeah, they wanna feel current. It's a terrible idea. Yeah, sense the staleness. Yeah, they want to feel current. It's a terrible idea.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Yeah, no, that's a very important, you know, let's talk about pot, we get this all the time, and I'm sure you're seeing it now because you've been in a longer than we have. Seems like everybody is heading over and doing this and thinking that they can just start up a podcast.
Starting point is 00:26:58 What are some of the biggest misconceptions you think that people have getting into this space? Oh, that is easy. I think they're like, oh, just get on there and do it because there's no regulation. If you want to start near mom's basement, you want to have you and your stepdad on your podcast, you can do it in the face.
Starting point is 00:27:13 So there's no regulation beyond iTunes. There's just levels to this game and you can tell. There's some that are super professional and they're consistent. So being consistent is number one. I have friends who were former fighters or current fighters, you know, I'm going to start a podcast or cool, man, the one thing you have to do is make sure people can count on it coming out the exact same time every week.
Starting point is 00:27:34 You might get busy, but in general, it has to come out. Let's say at Wednesday, it better fucking be there on Wednesday. And they do it. It made me there. It'd be good for two weeks. And then I took two weeks off. Well, you while you're gone you lost the crowd it's too competitive man imagine your favorite TV show you're watching stranger things and he gets to episode four like what the fuck like my bad bro yeah we'll
Starting point is 00:27:55 come out next Friday you're out you're out you're like oh it's too competitive I'm mad I'll go watch narcos you screw the same thing with podcasts so. So to me, as many people as we reach through our podcasts, I think we just broke something like 15 million downloads a month or 16 million. So in big brown breakdown, I do once a week, I just broke around 5 million a month. So you're reaching a ton of people. So that show is no different than a show you see on HBO,
Starting point is 00:28:24 on ESPN, in fact, you're reaching more people. Yeah. show you see on HBO on ESPN. Matter of fact, you're reaching more people. So you're connected more to the people. You're waiting for your hair for six hours a week for God's sake. If you're going to watch first take, come on, man. That's not, you don't care about that. But you need to take it as serious as if you're running a show on ESPN. That's how serious I take it.
Starting point is 00:28:44 So when someone's late, if we have this intern, if she's like, should I do them things, I fire them. This is no different than you working at Fox HBO. Right, right. Don't take it for granted, look down upon it, because for a while people, oh, everyone has a podcast they can do it.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Granted, they can, but that's like saying, oh, anyone can have a TV show, PBS HBO. There's levels in this game, man. Right, right. You were saying your shows grown every month, were there things that you like saying, oh, anyone can have a TV show, PBS HBO. There's levels in this game, man. Right, right. You were saying your shows grown every month. Were there things that you guys did? I was just, we saw big milestones. Yeah, big milestones or jumps or?
Starting point is 00:29:13 It took us a year to hit a million total downloads and then we started seeing a million a month. But it took a fucking grind just to see that. That's how it should be. Think, think if you guys started and right away you got a million listeners. Yeah. It's not realistic.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Even a TV show, like how long did it take before it's here saying people would do this, this podcast really good. Oh really? Do you listen to podcasts? This podcast is just, and that's why you have to be consistent. Right.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Because you're constantly getting listeners, constantly getting listeners. So for us, it wasn't that there was like this huge jump is just like this tidal wave that just kept going kept going and Did it start to accelerate? Yeah, it would accelerate, but it was just by word of mouth and it might be that this fight was coming up or I was taking people through my Andre Lovsky camp or I was retiring or something was going on and it was just people tuning came this title wave but Brian I never you know
Starting point is 00:30:03 Waved we would never wavered from what we were trying never waved, we never waved from what we're trying to get done. Like, we never changed things or thought things different or we just kept on keeping on. Well, yeah, we have a lot of people ask us about monetization and they think that sponsorships is where it's at and we always tell them, by the time you get big enough to get a lot of money from sponsorships, you should be already producing revenue off of your own stuff. What is your main monetization? Are you guys mainly, because you guys are so big, your sponsorships are probably huge. Is that your main monetization, or is it apparel, or?
Starting point is 00:30:32 So I'd say all the above, I think it starts with advertising, where we make the bulk of our money. And before we have a company that runs all our advertising, that's great money for us, man. And that's where we make our living, no matter what happens, as far as this TV show comedy, that's always there. And Brian, I split that. But then I've relationships with other companies where, like on it and some of these other companies who, I was like, hey, this one I'm doing is before we even got big.
Starting point is 00:31:03 This is what we're doing. I want you guys to be part of this and they grew with us. So there's some who are on all the time then there's campaigns. But advertising's where the bulk of the money comes from. But then you have other revenues in advertising on YouTube. And then there's merch. And merch.
Starting point is 00:31:19 And again, this is, I don't say it's my fault, but any of that stuff as far as the marketing you see, merch, advertising team, like it's all on me. And I like it that way, because if Brian did it, the show would just fucking Titanic. I can't believe it. Just because he's not a detailed business guy, he doesn't care about that stuff.
Starting point is 00:31:39 He's like, oh, whatever, but he can't, he's an artist. Yeah, yeah, I am too, but forgot to say some grown man. But that athlete drive. Yeah, it's just, you know, to be in the know on everything. So when it comes to t-shirts, I used to draw a lot of them and care so much about them and the fans love them. We still sell them out, but I'm not making as many.
Starting point is 00:31:59 I just don't have time. So I have people reach out now to kind of help us. So I have to get better at kind of going, yeah, you handle this. But I haven't found anyone who's been given this. Have you always been this driven? Yeah, always. Always, always.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Because you and athlete, you have seen how this, and where's that come from? I think my dad, my dad's a monster. He's like pursuit of happiness story. He started off divorced, diabetes, broke, bankrupt, and then just worked his way in multi-million, you know, he started off divorce, diabetes, broke, bankrupt, and then just worked his way, you know, multi-million, you know, ballin, ballin from real estate and start his own computer program, program company and smart smart guy.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Did you recognize that as a child or did you put that together as an adult later on until I fucked you? My dad was about. No, I knew just because I saw how hard he worked and, you know, if he wanted something, he set his eyes on and he got it done And I remember I was in I think third or fourth grade for sure don't sign a kid up for tackle football on third grade I Wanted to quit because all my other I was good at it
Starting point is 00:32:55 I was a captain of the team, but all my other friends like going out having fun playing you know in third god damn grade I don't want to come to practice at three o'clock after school and so My dad goes practice is it sort of 10 minutes ago. Why don't you there and I go, I'm not going anymore. I don't want to do it. And I liked football and I was good at it, but I just want to be a kid in my dad's house. Okay, well, we're going to write up the street because we're going to walk up there
Starting point is 00:33:18 and you're going to let the team know you quit in front of all of them. You're not just going to back out. You owe it to these guys. So he's like, you can do that. You just gotta tell him. Yeah, I got him. He walked me up there and I don't know why, but he had my helmet and pads with him.
Starting point is 00:33:33 I was like, why the fuck is he gonna donate it to these kids? Why are you carrying that? And he got my coach and my coach like, gather around. You gotta remember, I was the star of the team. And he's like, gather around. And he's like, Brennan, something tell you guys. And I'm all star of the team. And he's like gather around and he's like, Brennan has something to tell you guys. And I'm all, oh shit. And my dad's like, go.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Go, tell him what you were telling me when we were walking up here, go, I started crying. And he's like, you went to your helmet and pads, like, mm-hmm. And then, you know, wow, what's the single best lesson he's ever given you, growing up? I think it's more of not something, you know, saying something like, go big or go home
Starting point is 00:34:04 or something bullshit like that. I think it just more of not something, you know, saying something like go big or go home, or some bullshit like that. I think it just lead by example. You know, and I'm the same way with Mike, and that's, I find inspiration in that. I hate that motivational bullshit. That motivation is bullshit. Well, I think if it helps people, I'm all about it wherever you're motivation
Starting point is 00:34:20 whether it's religion or you listen to Tony Robbins, you know, Tony Robbins is great. And then you have these disciples from him and stuff like that. But it's all bullshit man. They're taking advantage of people's failures and their downfalls right now, they're going through tough times and trying to capitalize on that through money,
Starting point is 00:34:35 investments and all this other stuff and they put out this inspirational shit. What's inspirational to me is someone who just puts their head down and goes to work. You know what I'm saying? Like to me, what's inspirational, especially having a kid now is a father of three, you know, who's a single parent.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Are you shading me? I'ma fuck a shaggy to trophy. Something like being a parent to a beast or a mother of four, you know, single parent, like that's inspirational to me. But people put out, you know, this inspirational quotes and all this and the, does these seminars?
Starting point is 00:35:01 Get the fuck out of my face with that stuff, man. That's not motivational to me. No, it is a last shot. Shut up and motivational to me. No, you deal with this a lot. Shut up and go. Like, I'm trying to think the last time I was motivated by something, or someone who said something, you guys know Jocco. I think Jocco. So he's a Navy SEAL for fuck's sake.
Starting point is 00:35:16 So he's walked the walk. I'm going to listen to someone who's walked the walk in that aspect of life. You know, he's so disciplined. You follow him on Instagram, it's 4 a.m. 4 a.m. And I remember I used to drink a lot of sweeteners, artificial sweeteners and diet coke and stuff like that. I did have a diet coke yesterday, but I didn't eat anything all day,
Starting point is 00:35:32 so give me a break here. But I was drinking a lot of artificial sweeteners. And I heard him say something like, just stop, put your fun in the ground, and just fucking stop. Make, don't let yourself down, like write it down and just don't stop. I'm not gonna write it down.
Starting point is 00:35:47 I'm a grown man, I don't need to write it down. But I just remember, why are you the fucking I doing these other fish sweeteners? I haven't had one since. That was six months ago. Just stopped. Just stopped, cold turkey. Just because it was good coming from him,
Starting point is 00:36:00 someone of that leadership or someone who's walking the walk. But he's leading by example, because he's saying he had a problem. He stopped. You know what I'm someone of that leadership or someone who's walking the walk, but he's leading by example because he's saying he had a problem. He stopped. You know what I'm saying? It's not like this guy who's selling me, he's not selling me anything. No, no, no. He's empowering you by telling you to do it, right?
Starting point is 00:36:13 Versus the whole thing. He's also having a conversation with Joe Rogan. He's just having a conversation. He's not trying to, you know, just stop. And you can stop at bar and no, bar and nobles before 399. You know, like it's not like that. It's like he was just stop. And you can stop at bar and bar and nobles from 1499. You know, like it's not like that. I'm just talking as his as his person out. The last guy to make him to really motivate me, if you will, was Justin Rand, the big pick me. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:36 I love that guy. So we had him on the show and he told us this whole story. And I'm looking at this guy and I'm like, I want to fucking hug you. And I want to be a better human now. Right. From hearing what I mean mean I'm not going to Africa but I hear you Yeah, I'm not going after yeah, I put a corner in the little jar Yeah, you get $10 like you'll buy some water Sure that'll help yeah, dude. That guy's gone through some stuff Story like oh my god, I'm a dude how many? How many times have you had parasites and shit? Like every single time? Well, area, like his girl who's this dime bee's,
Starting point is 00:37:08 like he brought her to Africa. I'm like, why? You do the worst husband ever. He's like, God, bro, we slept in a hot. She had a tranche of bite or ass. All right, man, I feel like that's a bad idea. I donated to some of those wells, and it's like, you know, I try to do my part.
Starting point is 00:37:23 I'm like, go on the Africa. I'm just not, it's not happening. I guy that you still stay in touch with in the UFC. Do you have any guys that you like a lot? You guys hang out or you're not connected with them? I don't really hang out with any fighters. I just don't, man. All my friends are comics, straight up comics. You don't come across, and this is not an insult in any way. You don't come across as a fighter. What I mean by that is that you're not a fighter.
Starting point is 00:37:38 You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter. You're not a fighter are comics, straight up comics. You don't come up, you don't come across, and this is not, this is not an insult in any way.
Starting point is 00:37:48 You don't come across as a fighter. What I mean by that is you look like one, you're a big dude, obviously, you got big ass hands and everything. But you don't come across as one, you have this kind of like, you know, this, this nice, uh, energy about you. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, not the mean nugget right there. Um, I mean, I, I do talk to fighters all the time.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Like right before we sat down, I won't say his name, I got a text from a fighter about some marketing thing he wants to do. So, they asked me a lot of advice. Like mentoring and share, right? Yeah, some advice. And at least I'm not a manager, I'm an agent nor do I want to.
Starting point is 00:38:16 But if they're friends, I help them out and tell them what I think maybe do this or do this or ask for this. Because I do have friends who represents the biggest names in business and I know what their contracts are. But I don't really hang out with a lot of fighters. I just don't, man, you don't have a lot to relate to.
Starting point is 00:38:34 I mean, it's such a different lane now. It's not that I look down on anything like that. There's just different. They're phenomenal, but it's just, yeah, it's different. We're just in different lanes. Who's helped you with your stand up comedy? Like who's been mentoring you through that? Was it mainly Brian there?
Starting point is 00:38:48 For sure, I would never not say Brian, Brian, come for sure, because I figured, I think I was getting ready for Mitrione. I was getting ready for Mitrione, and I was in Boxmer in the gym, you guys saw me at. I was wrapping my hands getting ready as far as this monster. This guy walks in, and I just started talking about how miserable my job is. but saw me at, I was wrapping my hands getting ready as far as this monster.
Starting point is 00:39:05 This guy walks in and I just started talking about how miserable my job is. Like just trying to make people laugh. And I was just talking about his size and his dick and what's gonna happen. And all this stuff in Brian's dying laughing. Yes, Brian's dying laughing is, you know you're gonna do stand-up events, right?
Starting point is 00:39:20 And we can't just fuck out of here. Oh wow, he called it. This is probably five years ago. He called it, right? Yeah, because you know you're gonna do stand-up when you're crazy. And then, you know, we started, the firing kids started getting kind of success.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Funny goes, do we should do a live show? And I went, have you ever listened to a live podcast that are awful? And he goes, no, no, no, no, we're not that, those guys, we're gonna do a performance. I'm like, what do you mean? And I'm all about performance. I'm like, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:39:43 He goes, we're gonna do a show. And he goes, this is what we should do. So I went and sat and watched some of these live podcasts. I went to other names, huge shows, but they're live podcasts. I went, this is awful. We can't do this. Ryan goes, no bro, we're gonna do it like this.
Starting point is 00:39:57 And so he goes, what I wanna do is I wanna shock people. You're gonna come out first by yourself and you're a really good storyteller. And I want you just to do 10 minutes of a story. If the funny story you think, whatever it is that day, I want you to come out and just do 10 minutes of it. You start sweating immediately. Not really, I was like, I can tell stories out there.
Starting point is 00:40:13 You're not crying. Yeah, I was like, wow. I'll tell stories all day, I'm day, no problem. And so they started booking them, or the first one we ever did, I think was that Ontario or Braille improv, you know, 600 people, packed, sold out in like a day.
Starting point is 00:40:26 And so I get up there on stage and that's all I do. And then Brian comes out and we do our dynamic back and forth and we're doing these skits and current events, fan questions that goes great and start torn all around. And then we're in Chicago, Vic Theater. It's like 1,400 people sold out. And we've had a bunch of shows by this point, and Brian goes, oh, I look at Brian go,
Starting point is 00:40:48 hey, I'm trying to, I need help with my story, but the story I'm gonna tell, and he goes, are you talking about your stand up? And I go, stand up. And he just looks at me and goes, oh, Bob, you think it's storytelling still. No, you're doing stand up. I just don't wanna scare the shit out of you.
Starting point is 00:41:01 You're doing stand up. I'm like, oh my god, he's fighting you. And then I got nervous. And then I bombed. No, I was shit. It went good, but then I just started looking at it from a different viewpoint. And then we had a live, fighting the kid at the comedy store,
Starting point is 00:41:15 which we have again, December 5th, for the first time in a long time. Nice. But we had our first one there, and we did our thing, it went great. And probably like two weeks later, I get a text from someone at the comedy store, it goes, hey, we'd love for you to do a set here.
Starting point is 00:41:27 And I just, I was like, oh, you mean with Brian? I don't know if Brian's available, but like, no, you idiot by yourself. Can you have six minutes, eight minutes? And I was like, oh shit. Now, I was like, no one realizes a kid. My hair's where Adam's, Adam's handler, Jim Carey, like, I was like, oh my god, this is my opportunity.
Starting point is 00:41:43 And I went up there in the belly room, you got Joe Rogan, these are my friends. Joe Rogan, Chris Delia, Will Sasso, Brian Count, just sitting there front row. This is em, evaluating my agent. I had to do something to beat. It went all right. I'm not fucking Kevin Hart over here.
Starting point is 00:42:00 It went all right. But I got done like, yeah, all right, man. got done there like, yeah, all right man. At least you got up there. Oh my fuck you, you got on, yeah. So you know, it's just, you know, I can come when we get up there, but Brian by far was the biggest influence, helped me the most.
Starting point is 00:42:14 And then, you know, Rogan D'Lia, I'm always asking D'Lia for help. And then a big one who, you know, I have a similar style too. I'm not comparing myself to him, but Bert Kreischer. You know, I have a piece coming out of County Central next year. This is not happening. I tell this long story, and I actually went to Bert's house
Starting point is 00:42:32 to go over it because he's a brilliant storyteller. That's his stand-up to storytelling. That's mine. So that's my style. So I told him the story, and he helped me. He takes a shirt off of me. It's crazy at all. Yeah, I don't take my shirt off, but he just helped me
Starting point is 00:42:44 with the story, and it made on County Central. So it's cool shirt off because it's crazy. Yeah, I would take my shirt off, but he just helped me with the story and it made on economy central. So it's cool, man. That's great. What are some of the things you're learning during this process, like that it's kind of sharp in your standup game. You have to do it. You can't have layoffs.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Like if you have a layoffs, it's kind of like golf. You know, like golf, golf and something, just try. Like surfing isn't something just try. Like you got to fucking, you got to stay on it, man. So if I have a weak off and I have a big show, I can tell I'm resting. I'm not hitting certain points. It's not as smooth.
Starting point is 00:43:09 So, you know, just reps, reps, reps, reps. And constantly thinking, and I think. That's pretty rare to jump in and kind of do good. Like most comedians have been doing it for five or 10 years before they start to do well. Everybody sucks for a long time. Is it really around all these comedians all the time? You think it's rubbing off? I don't I don't know if it's that I don't know if it's you know, I'm just good. No, I don't know what it is man
Starting point is 00:43:32 I wish I was that cocky. I just there's maybe this is what I was meant to do Yeah, it's just something I'm comfortable up there if I'm at you know I'm at the store I brought up Dave Shpel and Kevin Hart. Well, I have Sam Treen Dave Shpel and Kevin Hart Like that stuff doesn't scare me like I brought up Dave Schpel and Kevin Hart. I have Sam Treen, Dave Schpel and Kevin Hart. Like, that stuff doesn't scare me. Like, I just feel honored by it. And I don't know, I feel like this is what I'm supposed to be doing now.
Starting point is 00:43:51 And when I'm on the road, I just, I thrive in it, man. I love it. I fucking love it. When we interview a lot of people, and it seems that we always get surprised, right? If we, there's somebody we assume we're going to really like, we don't like it very much, somebody we didn't think we were going to like much, we don't like them much. much Somebody we didn't think we're like a much we don't like them on does that happen to you lot where you you think you're gonna
Starting point is 00:44:08 Meet so many like oh man like for example like Adam Sandler Kevin harpsone you so excited and you're like fuck let down Yeah, I've never I'm not too many let downs. I remember I was at the movie theater and plan vista here with my girl And we went and saw Fuck I forget what movie wasn't great, but my girl was going to the bathroom. So I was like, I'll go to the bathroom. And I'm taking a piss, and I looked to my left, I'm like, God, damn, that looks like Adam Sandler. What's your hero?
Starting point is 00:44:34 He could have, you know, a fucking beard like ISIS. And I'm like, that's, that looks like Adam Sandler. I have my dick in my hand, and I'm like, for sure, it's anything right now. So don't be that long. Hey, happy Gilmore, am I shaking it like? Going for a hand shake. Yeah, they hold on.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Hey, off from it. I'm almost done, dude. So I'm there pissing, I'm like, there's no hats out in Sanla. And I see him wash his hands, I'm like, who washes their hands? But I see him wash his hands. I'm like, that's fucking out.
Starting point is 00:45:03 That's Adam Sandler, man. And I get nervous, like I'm eating the Pope, man. I'm like, oh's back. That's fucking out. That's Adam Sandler, man. And I get nervous, like, I'm eating the Pope, man. I'm like, oh, fuck, there's my hero. So he's with his kids. And I know how it is with your kids. Grandtun, I'm not as famous as Adam Sandler, but I get it, I'm like, I don't want bothered, man. I'm like, I'm not gonna do that.
Starting point is 00:45:16 He's with his kids. He's just cool to even see him in person. That's so cool, man. Hopefully I see him around the comedy circuit. And then he's walking by with his kids. And I see him looking at me. I'm like, I look like a fucking psycho right now. And my girl comes out and he comes over me and goes,
Starting point is 00:45:30 you're that funny guy that kicks ass, right? I'm like, oh shit. Oh, that's cool. I was like, what? That's cool. You knew me? I was like, what? He's the nicest guy ever.
Starting point is 00:45:40 That's cool. It's even cooler that he came over and said something to you too. That's cool. That's an even a cool moment. There's been those crazy moments where When I first started getting to stand up I read Judd apt house books seeking the head where if you're interested in stand up or comedy or Or just the way comics minds work seeking the heads just the best goddamn book I can recommend It's so good. There's not that many good ones with Judd apt house since he was like 13 has been interviewing It's so good. There's not that many good ones,
Starting point is 00:46:01 but Judd Abtow, since he was like 13, has been interviewing comics before they got big, talking about their journey. He has sign filled, he sits down with sign filled, when I think sign filled is like 24, right, when he moves to LA and he's this cocky dude, and he's this young kid Judd Abtow, he's interviewing him, Jim Carr, you name it,
Starting point is 00:46:17 Roseanne Barb, she got big, but it's brilliant. So I read his book and that's what helped me deal with stand up and writing the whole process and then For this is this is not happening in Comedy Central you go through all these kind of auditions where you're at the Comedy store in the belly room and you're telling your story with other comics and out of whatever the 20 comics tell stories They pick like Ford actually do it. So you go through this elimination process. So I'm going through that process They're like I would change this and I'm going through that process. They're like, I would change this. I'm going back and forth.
Starting point is 00:46:46 It's months, a month, go by. And we have Judd Abtau. His publicist reached out to me and goes, Hey, would you like Judd Abtau? I'm like, fuck, yes. That gets one of my heroes, man. He's brilliant. All the movies he does.
Starting point is 00:46:59 So he comes on the show. And that same day, I find out I'm going to be on a on economy central. So that morning and they tell me the day of so that morning I'm with Judd Abta who influenced me and stand up that night I'm shooting for economy central and find out. It's just like universe man. This perfect storm. Yeah. I told him that he's a. I told him that he was like team fireproof. He's like very cool man. Anyways, not. He's good dude. He's coming back on I think next week.
Starting point is 00:47:26 How different are comedians hanging out with comedians versus hanging out with fighters? Because it's gotta be so, it's gotta be a total different. Probably a lot more fun. It's like the guy go commercial. It's like hanging out with the cave man, or hanging out with,
Starting point is 00:47:38 not to shit on fighters, but listen, if you're a world-class fighter, there's not that many layers to you. There's a reason why I was't a world champion, man. You know, like, you know, you know, Kane Velasquez, go have a bear with him. It's a fucking boar. But in the octagon, you'd beat the brakes off me, you know what I'm saying? So you talk to any of these guys, there's not a whole lot of liars.
Starting point is 00:48:00 But comedians have a lot. Oh my God. Some of the darkest fucks, right? Some of the funniest nights I've ever had have been, they're stand-ups great, but you get Chris Delia, Brian, and Will Sass, so together, man, or in rope, and it's just, I mean, so we'll do our sets, and then we'll go eat next door,
Starting point is 00:48:16 and it's the best time ever. Like I'm in tears, laugh. Oh, I was gonna say, that's probably funnier than the actual standard part. I'm fine, I'm fine. Well, probably the darkest humor I'm assuming, right? Because comedians are making sure that it's like one up and man. I don't even try man. I just sit there and it's just ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Well, they're so talented. It's crazy. Have you had a set where you've bombed real hard? Oh, yeah. What's that like? It's just embarrassing. They get in your car. I remember, how do you know it just nobody laughs?
Starting point is 00:48:42 Oh, you know. No, no, no, no, no. Oh my god, it's going to come at you know it just nobody laughs? Oh, you know, you know, oh my god. It's gonna come at you. It's like, you know, it's like a kick in the dick. Like you like, you have it up? You wrap it up. Oh, I power through it. Yeah. I was gonna listen. I had to sit at the lab. And it was like Armenian night. It was a Tuesday night at like 11 o'clock at night. And I'm just looking for reps. It's like a year ago, probably a year and a half ago. And I get there and there's like seven people in the crowd.
Starting point is 00:49:08 And these Armenians are there, I guess, not to laugh. Like they didn't laugh at anyone. They're just like, standing there like this. I'm like, this is not gonna go well. So I do my thing and I mean, it's crickets. I get in the car and I get done in the showrunner. She's gone now. Bless her heart She's like, yeah, it's just this one was nice. You know, I'm like, yeah, I guess and I get my crown
Starting point is 00:49:29 I'm like, what the fuck am I doing with my life man? Like that was awful Like that was a straight bomb fest and that's happened It just but you see my the tide that that would motivate you Ah, in motivate where I'm like I got like the next day I went back over my material and like, ah, we can't have this happening Right, I fear you're like a fighter like yeah, it's like it losing right I went back over my material and like, oh, we can't have this happening. Right. I feel like a fighter. Like, it's like it's losing, right? You're asked, no one wants to get loose. Watch the game.
Starting point is 00:49:49 It's not you quit fighting. I'm not. No, no, no. You just don't want to feel that again. It is the worst. I'm lucky because I don't have a lot of those situations, but I've had a few. And it's weird because a lot of comics, you know, I've talked to DeLia about this. I've talked to, um, Calon and've talked to Callan and some other guys.
Starting point is 00:50:06 When you go to open mics and you had a bar, you had a Baskin Robbins or Red Robin or some shit, and they're not there for comedy, but they're not even listening and engaging. A lot of people like to come up through that way. And Brian's like, I don't know if that's the best route, especially for a guy like you. I just don't think that's meant for you.
Starting point is 00:50:23 I think what you're doing is exactly how your path's supposed to be. Wow. Do you feel like right now you're living your dream or do you still even feel like you're chasing your dream? Oh, man. I don't know, that's a great question, man. Because I couldn't think of this. I didn't, you know, when I was a kid, great,
Starting point is 00:50:41 and I wanted my dream was to be on Saturday Night Live, but I don't know if I'll ever be content, man. I don't. I think, I remember, I was like, oh, if I could just do sets at the store, I'm be happy and that happens. And it's like, oh, if I could just sell out this on my own and that happens, oh, if I could just buy this car
Starting point is 00:50:59 and that happens and it's like the next thing. So I don't know if I'll ever be content, man. I don't know. I know right now, like I'm in the process of buying a house. I'm looking at all these places over here. And I'm like, oh man, once I hit this mark, I get this house, it's gonna be, I bet I'm gonna be cool. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:51:16 I don't know, I just, I don't think I'll ever be content. I don't, and I think, you know, the goal is to, for a Netflix special, whenever that happens, that's kind of the home run. Right. You can't stop there, you're just gonna have one. No, there's no way So I don't know do you feel like you have to have kind of self talks about like hey I need to enjoy this process and not just always be focused on goals because typically that's what you get with someone who's so driven Sometimes it's hard to actually stop the smell the road
Starting point is 00:51:38 100% reflect. Yes, my biggest problem. So I can't say the network exactly what's going on But I pitched this show and it got Greenland, which is hard to do in this town. And so I got Greenland. I started shooting January. It's a big deal. It's my own show on a huge network. Good for you, bro. And I text Brian and he goes, I know you please fucking realize how hard this is to do. And just just realize that this is something special. and I go, well, it'd be something special if it hit. Like if it goes for five seconds, it's a hit. He's like, you're an idiot.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Like, I don't know what a house to take it in, man. Like, when I when I found out it's going, I'm like, oh, that's cool, man. And I'm like, God, I hope. And I'm just start thinking like, oh, you don't want to end up like this. Like, I like to begin to get. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's just, it's just, you know, it has to be a home run. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:28 How do you find peace? Through my son. Through my son when I go home, you know, he's the best man, the best kids are the best. But before him, I don't know if there's peace. And before, you know, even with him sometimes, you know, I find myself like thinking about something else where you gotta be present,
Starting point is 00:52:44 but you have to be present with him, you know, you can't let him die. Like just don't, just be a good parent. Don't let him fucking run into traffic. So you have to be, you have to be present with the little one and he forces me to do that. But you know, even sometimes that's a challenge. Sometimes the challenge is I'll just, I'll just think about working on, stop, nonstop. How much is it you? Is he, is he all you?
Starting point is 00:53:02 What do you think? He's on me. Yeah, yeah. We look identical. What's that like? What's that like? Almost seem like a reflection of yourself. What about his habits? Do you see yourself?
Starting point is 00:53:10 It's scary. It's scary because anyone here have children? I got to. Everybody but me. There you go. No, no, no, we know of him. Yeah, yeah. So you know how it is.
Starting point is 00:53:19 So with kids, it's scary because you know what the world's like. I think now when there's these terrorist attacks or these mass shootings, it's scary because you know what the world's like. And you know, I think now when there's like these terrorist attacks or these mass shootings, like it affects me so much more than it is. Totally different. When it's just me, I'm more scared now, however, but with him, I'm just like, oh my God, like I'm terrified of everything. And I, you know, I only let three people
Starting point is 00:53:39 watch him besides me, you know, his mom, his grandma and our nanny, outside that no one touches the kid, no one can see him. Not not seeing, like family can see him, but you're not getting him alone. I'm constantly worried about, can you hear all these horror stories? So for me, I'm just scared of the world and like I don't want him to go through some
Starting point is 00:53:56 of the same process that I went through. Like, you know, you see now, I was talking about this my girl the other night, like, you know, football, football is my, you know, dream for me as a kid. It was a rough road, man. It was a rough road. And you know, I don't, I don't want to sound bitter, anything like that. But when I went to University of Colorado, like I never in, in Joe Kloffstein, he was the team captain, first round draft big stud, my best friend. He would vouch for this. I just never got out of it when I put into it.
Starting point is 00:54:29 But meaning, I don't have to say this without people, I come on bro. I just, I worked my tail off, man. I was good, I was fucking good, man. And for whatever reason, it just never lined up for me. And again, I put this chip on my shoulder, made me who I am, but it was tough nights, man. It was tough nights when, you know, we're in Nike school and Nike would
Starting point is 00:54:51 send, and people are going to be rolling their eyes at this, but for a guy like me who's sensitive, it was a big deal. It made me feel almost like less than, or like a second-class citizen. When Nike would send this special gear, and they'd have 20 pairs of these shoes or 20 pairs of this jacket, and they'd give it to 20 guys around me, and I wouldn't get one because, for every reason, I wasn't good enough to them, or something like that.
Starting point is 00:55:14 Well, when you're constantly seeing that, and as a kid, I got down the basketball team, we got new jerseys, and they gave everyone new jerseys, but me, those put these chips on your shoulder, and you feel lesser then. And at University of Colorado, it made me feel like these chips on your shoulder and you feel lesser than. At University of Colorado, it made me feel like that. I don't want to feel like that. So like with fashion, people make fun of me in fashion with shoes.
Starting point is 00:55:33 A lot of that's from that, not having it and feeling lesser than or it's the car I drive feeling lesser than. Does that make sense? That's my story. That's my story. So I don't want my son dealing with that. Like I felt that a lot of times crying at night man, like music was rough.
Starting point is 00:55:47 So I grew up, I'm the oldest of five, and I mean we grew up food stampore. Yeah. And a lot of my styles of stuff I pay, it's because I didn't have those things. I worked really hard to get to that point where I can afford that. And I think I don't even have a kid,
Starting point is 00:56:00 but my biggest fear would be to spoil him because I didn't have everything. And now that I'm in a position to do that. You don't want to go to the office of the office. Right, and I now have an uncle who has two kids that are 25 and 30, and they private schools went to the best colleges, and now they're both working for his company,
Starting point is 00:56:17 he's still paying for them at 25 and 30. Are they good kids though? Are they good human beings? They are good human beings. That's all good. Yeah, they're good. Not everyone's meant to go through that struggle and be Tony Robbins or Kane Velasquez or Nate Diaz or Ronda Rouseys or Brian Kellen's of the world or Joe Rogan's like you know pressure makes diamonds But a lot of times those are great people too, man
Starting point is 00:56:36 They don't you know the world needs those people. Yeah, they don't need to see the the bad in the world and go through the same trials and Tribulations we went through would you do my son's not? the bad in the world and go through the same trials and tribulations we went through. My son's not going to do that. Would you discourage him from playing football? Whoa, I don't... Well, the information on football is so much different now. It's different, but it's different, but at the same time, is it? Does it change anything?
Starting point is 00:56:57 Like, it's football. It's always been there. That's like being upset, Michael Phelps gets wet in the pool. Of course, you know what I'm saying? Of course you're going to get wet. So, in football, what you're talking about these giant behemoths running each other's not healthy. No shit.
Starting point is 00:57:10 I didn't need doctor. You got 50 years ago. Yeah, I don't need Dr. Anderson. Tell me how bad is for your brain. We kind of knew it. Like, everyone's like, what? Like, come on. So with my son, and I'm fortunate enough
Starting point is 00:57:22 where I've been around at such a high level. And it was my life for so long. I've been around at such a high level and it was my life for so long. I've seen so many other players. If he has a gift, I'm going to let him run with it. If you're just fucking average Joe, blow, let's find something else to do my man. This ain't for you. We're going to have to, I'm going to take you out. Well, I focus on something else. I struggle with that too, because like I went through football and had the same kind of a thing where I realized I wasn't good enough. Like I wasn't going to go anywhere with it and like should my son go through this and get beat up and go through that same process
Starting point is 00:57:49 You know, but it's like I learned so many things from being on a team and going through those struggles It's contributing high school then college. You know, where'd you play college? Well, I had Trinity. Okay. Yeah, so it's not like big is like any IA. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah See high school is a little high school. Yeah, do your thing It's high school for God's sake. Yeah, but it's fun when now when you get to college if you're not getting scouted by anyone You're just gonna walk on or something like that. I don't know man And I would say focus on your education because I have level guys are hit too They're hitting and it's also football. You're in a major in football
Starting point is 00:58:20 So I was a double major in business sociology. I majored in football though, man If you're playing a major in football. So I was a double major in business sociology. I majored in football though, man. If you're playing a major division in school, I don't give a fuck what they tell you. It's the most corrupt business in the world. It job, you're working overtime, it's non-stop big time football. They don't care about anything else.
Starting point is 00:58:37 So again, if my son doesn't have the gift, do go to Stanford, go something else and focus on education because I guarantee that's gonna pay off down the road. Can you tell us not? Can you talk about that a little bit? My head of buddy that played for Chico during the World Series years for them.
Starting point is 00:58:50 And he was like, school isn't even school. He's like, literally, and everything was free in town. You didn't have to go to class ever. Coach would sit down and literally pass out your grades back to him. I remember I had two stories for you guys. I remember when I first got to campus, I had this guy who's from Louisiana, actually played for the Buffalo Bills, phenomenal player, captain, our team. And I got to school and I didn't realize how bad
Starting point is 00:59:16 it was. And you know, he got in for you. You know, who knows how and we're going over something. He goes, Hey, job. How do you spell chair? I said, I went, yeah, I can even imagine. And he's dead seriously. He's like, for real, it's not the fucker. I'm like, oh, CHA, I are okay. He got his degree behind me four years later, which I was like, are you shitting me? But, wow.
Starting point is 00:59:37 To that point where the privilege in playing Division One, I remember we had the way it works is, when you sit down with your athletic advisor, they give you classes where they know the teachers are going to be football friendly and they're going to, they're going to know your schedule and they're actually support the program. So this one class and it was the worst because I'm like, no, I don't need the dumb ass classes. Like, please give me an education. Oh, you had to ask for it. Oh my God. No, that's like double major. I'm like, this please give me an education. Oh you had to ask for it. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:00:05 No, that's like double major. So I'm like, this is so easy man. Let me do this. Let me do this. So they would give us the football friendly teachers. So they gave us this teacher and it's me and six guys and we have a huge game coming up. And he gives out the test and then he goes,
Starting point is 01:00:20 oh, you guys go into this room and all the students know it. So we go into this one room. It's me and six other guys. All football players. All football players and all them are studs. And he just puts down one test and goes, you guys just talk about it amongst yourself. You know, take one test.
Starting point is 01:00:35 And well, these guys didn't do their homework and the least bit, so they're all staring at me. So I'd go, A, B, or C, like, I think I think we got a c like what the fuck man. I was gone damn sin in my eyes. Hey fuck you guys man. You got an a f. I tried to ask you assholes. What do you care? Wow. That crazy. And you know that's it. You know she's calling out and we were good but we're not like a Flora state or Alabama right right That's why my respect for Stanford who has they keep the academic such a high standard get they still ball out Yeah, you know, I'm saying so to me that's so impressive right right like my son's not going to Ohio State or Alabama
Starting point is 01:01:19 Get the fuck out here You need UCLA something Wow, that's crazy. It was a bummer though too. It's like, oh yeah. And then you get your degree, you know, and some people are like, when she get a degree, you get a job like that.
Starting point is 01:01:34 Really, is that degrees of paper degree, man? That guy doesn't know shit. This guy can't smell chair for God's sake. He can't smell chair. And he has the same degree as me. The fuck do you think he's gonna do in life? That's not man. It's a bummer.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Wow. What's the most challenging thing about being a dad? Man, it's a great question. Just not fucking up. You want to make sure you're doing the right thing? My girl, she's Latin. She's super strict on them. And I'm not.
Starting point is 01:02:08 Are you the pushover? Yeah, big time. I think when it comes to sports and academics, I'll be the strict one. But when it comes to life, no, oh my God, yeah, I'm the biggest pushover ever with them. So yeah, I think it's just not fucking up. Make sure, you know, because you don't want to raise a loser. Could there be anything worth? Yeah, just a loser? Like not fucking up. Make sure you know, because you don't want to raise a loser. Could there be anything worth it?
Starting point is 01:02:25 Just a loser like he's that guy. Like he's that guy with the with the private account on Instagram talking shit, the famous people. That's him. That's my son. That'd be the fucking worst. Just the egg. Dude, sometimes I'll get trolls on the internet
Starting point is 01:02:39 and Instagram like that. And they'll be a picture with their kid. And it's very rare. I see it a respondent, but if I see a kid I respond to DM them go, bro, saw your comment, you're a dad. Imagine when your son's 15, tell your son that you hated on someone more successfully for what?
Starting point is 01:02:57 For what man? You're fucking up, do better as a person, as a father. And usually they respond like, oh shit, you're right, man. The simbars saying, I'm like, yeah, it is, man. That's what it's that. That's what it's care me about being a parent right now is thinking about social media in the future, because I think social media is just fucking. It's a blessing in a curse. Right, right. If you're using it for business, it could be a huge blessing, but most people are consuming it, right? Yeah. And, well, it's shaping the minds of, especially if you have a girl, if you have a daughter from,
Starting point is 01:03:26 you know, it's shaping the minds of young women because they see Kylie Jenner and that's not real. That's not, Instagram's not real. Did you see that? That's eight seconds out of my day. That is not real. Did you see that sugar app? Did you see it's downtown sunset bullet art?
Starting point is 01:03:39 Was it called sugar? It's called sugar girls. Sugar girls. Sugar girls. They have an app now for girls to have guys pay for them to do. To put their clothes on. Yeah. A Sugar Baby.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Like Sugar Daddy. Like that was not in his. It might be called Sugar Baby. It might be called Sugar Baby. I don't know. Have you heard of this? I've heard of Sugar Babies. But not the app.
Starting point is 01:03:59 I've heard of the girls that do it. Have you heard of Toilet Girls? No. What's that? Well, Toilet Girls, girls are girl and I used to, this is long ago. That sounds terrible. I know.
Starting point is 01:04:08 You ready for this? I'm about to drop some knowledge on some. Yeah, here we go. So I used to date this girl, did this. I could understand it. She was like a model and she would leave and go to Dubai or the Middle East for like two months and then come back and just be fucking loaded.
Starting point is 01:04:23 Gold Rolex is like chains and stuff. And she goes, oh, I sell this app over there. It's only available over there. I'm like, that makes sense. You have no doubt. And I found out a friend of her friends, like, no, she's a toilet girl. I'm like, what the fuck's that?
Starting point is 01:04:35 And she goes, well, these guys with this oil money, these Middle Eastern dudes have so much money, they pay these American like Instagram famous models to fly over there and they just treat them like complete shit piss on them fuck them. Well the homies ride the train on them but they pay him big time really handsomely like I'd be a toilet boy maybe but they hook these girls up man and then you know they give him over a hundred grand and then they go back.
Starting point is 01:05:01 So I've heard of this but I've never met somebody who's actually met a girl who actually met me. Yeah, bum me out. I was like, ah, fuck, that's not your yacht. Like she was just her on the yacht. Like, what do you even get something like that? Little did I know that there's a bunch of fucking Saudi guys with oil money underneath just with a dick sound, you know? Wow.
Starting point is 01:05:18 Totally girls looking up popular here. I don't think so. I mean, that's court service here is popular. So then what's sugar babies? What is sugar babies? Sugar babies is a girl who's younger who has an older guy that takes care of her. But you know, it's not that the relationship, he just takes pays her bills, probably puts her up in a place, gives her a car. But you're paying handsomely with that mouth and ass. Yeah. My old partner, so I started up two of the first medical marijuana clubs in the in the Bay Area. Time moved. Right. That was like six years ago. One of the first
Starting point is 01:05:49 ones to do that. And our partners in it. This guy had big money from overseas. And he's he was in recycling metal. And he used to have like he was married four kids, but he had like seven girlfriends, apartments, car. And then we had a, he had a fucking huge bounce or dude used to play, this guy Rodney, used to play in the NFL and he was like 285 jacked. And he was like 47 years old, but just a fucking gorilla, dude. And he would, and he was this nicest dude ever,
Starting point is 01:06:16 but he would send him over if a girl was fucking, not acting right and shit. And he'd drive over and just fucking repossessed the car. Jesus Christ. Oh, it was gangster right there, and then replace her. Then another one. You know what, you don't, about being a parent? That's someone's dying, right? I know, right? and he'd drive over there and just fucking repossessed the car. He was just crazy. Oh, it was gangster right there. And then replace her. Then another one. You know what, about being a parent,
Starting point is 01:06:26 that's someone's die now, right? Those are you being. You know what, again, about that we got a debt. Don't fuck it up. Like you want to be a shitty parent, that's what happens. That's one of the options. You're losing.
Starting point is 01:06:37 You took an L for life. That your daughter's a toilet. Oh, two things happened to me when I first became a parent. First off, I started driving slow, which I never did before. Yeah, I never did before. happened to me when I first became a parent first off I started driving slow which I never did before Never did before I had got tickets like crazy all of a sudden I'm driving slow and the second thing You know when you don't have kids and you see some you know girl dressed with you know real revealing or whatever Like damn she's hopper. I'm starting now when I see them like you have a daughter. Yeah have a daughter now look at that I'm like her pork fat. Oh, I know it's like damn that's what are you doing?
Starting point is 01:07:05 Why you dressed like that? I'm gonna make up on to early. The other thing is you do pros and cons. Like this company sent me a slingshot, so it's two wheels in front when we on the back. And I was scooting all over town and that thing. It was so much fun. And I got on the PCH and I'm like,
Starting point is 01:07:20 God, it's not that safe, is it? Like this car almost came out. I'm like, there's no airbags, there's nothing. And then I was having fun with it. They would come get it like two days later. I was seeing about buying it, cause I don't have so much fun with it. And I hit it into fourth gear and it spun out.
Starting point is 01:07:35 And I'm sitting on a B-S-H, staring at the cars coming at me. And luckily, I'm like this. Like, no, no, no, no. I'm like, think about ditching and running. It was terrible idea. It was like a scene out of Mission Possible 7 where the fuck they're on.
Starting point is 01:07:48 And so I turn it back around and then start going slow and I was like, I'm done with this man. All the shit I've been through came to imagine. Like, you know, my son Tiger, like, Dad was in the NFL, called football, UFC, comedy worldwide, oh, how do you die? I'm one of those slingshot things. You know, it's just a bummer. Like, that worldwide, oh how he died. I'm one of those slingshot things,
Starting point is 01:08:06 you know, it's just a bummer. Like that's how it finally got him. Like a fucking slingshot on the PCH. Yeah, he spun around, ran over him. Like it's a bummer. That's like what's his face you'd go by the stingray, right? Dude, it's like, oh man. I was all the dangerous shit of a bitch.
Starting point is 01:08:20 And it was just like for him, I was just like, oh, check out his thing. Oh, fuck, I came over. He's dealt with so much dangerous shit that was me this link shot and I was to come get it right now I don't want it yeah definitely changes what do you think you know when we started podcasting we talk about this all time that the three years we've been doing this I've grown more in the three years game chance to talk to so many great people and brilliant minds have you noticed a lot of growth in yourself
Starting point is 01:08:45 being able to do the same thing, like interviewing all these? 100% yeah, I think it just makes me a better person. I think, you know, just talking to people and getting their process and you realize that successful people or these people, whether they're celebrities or successful athletes or whatever the hell they're doing
Starting point is 01:09:01 or huge producers and jot aptal or comics, everyone's the same. Everyone's going through the same struggle. Everyone has the exact same problems. Everyone has the same stress. Do talk about that because this is something I try to tell people all the time because we fantasize about being these people that are up, making millions of dollars.
Starting point is 01:09:18 And what I have found that more often than not, there's some of the most fucked up people with the deepest, darkest secrets and issues. Yeah, I gotta be honest though, the richest people I know are the most depressed people I know. Gotta be honest, the richest guy I know is super depressed. Right, it's just, you know, I don't know what it is, but, you know, they all have the same problems, man. Beyonce and Jay-Z have problems just like anyone else or Drake or any of these people. So, that's why you gotta be careful,
Starting point is 01:09:45 looking up to your heroes. When they say don't meet your heroes, I find that to be true, but also when you meet them, it also humanizes them. Where you're like, oh, they're just the exact, fucking same man. There's no different, they just made this choice. So they did this in comedy or what,
Starting point is 01:10:01 even in fighting in sports, you can tell why someone's successful, why they're at where that, you look at Joe Rogan and his work ethic and how relentless he is and I see how good of a father is like after I get done with a tour, I'm exhausted man. And I remember Rogan had done with this tour
Starting point is 01:10:18 and I called him to ask him how it went and he goes, I'm good man, I just landed, I've been up all night with my tour, I'm taking my kids in Disneyland, I'm like what the fuck?'m just landed. I've been up all night with my tour. I'm taking my kids to Disneyland. I'm like, what the fuck? And so you got Ralph Raid. Took his kids, went to Disneyland. They were the whole day, did a podcast later that night.
Starting point is 01:10:32 He just, you know, you look at his work. At least it's not a mistake. Yeah. Joe Rogan's not a, you know, a Richard priori. So talented where you just fly by the cut. His work ethic is insane, man. And people go, I could do that. I don't know if he could. So the reason why he's so successful, I don't know if you would be
Starting point is 01:10:51 one of the sacrifice what he's sacrificed. I don't know if you're willing to get up like he gets up or do the research at night like he does or be at the comedy store every single night like he is or you know, and Chris Delia, everyone goes, Oh, he's goofy. Yeah, Chris is goofy. Chris is super goofy. Chris is also the most disciplined person I know, and Chris DeLie, everyone goes, oh, he's goofy. Yeah, Chris is goofy. Chris is super goofy. Chris is also the most disciplined person I know. Even out of any athlete I know, Chris is more disciplined than any athlete I know. Chris doesn't drink, doesn't eat fast food,
Starting point is 01:11:13 has never done a drug in his life. He does stand up every night, seven days a week, three times a night. What? Every night. Every night. So, what do you want to do? You think that's because he's goofy selling out?
Starting point is 01:11:26 No. No, that materially comes up with his craft. That materially comes up with an Instagram and now he has a podcast and his merchandise. It's not by accident. Right. There's no accidents. Accidents are people like Pierce Hilton who have one reality show or Jersey Shore. That's an accident.
Starting point is 01:11:42 That's not talent. Right. Really, Kardashians, that's the different. But, you. But these people who have these talents in their work ethic, I just find it mind-blowing. I also think, I mean, like in fitness, we've been in fitness for a long time, and people always come to us and say, I want to lose weight or I want to,
Starting point is 01:11:58 and you ask them why, why, why, and ultimately they tell you it's because they want to be happy. But really, the source of happiness is not the goal, it's the path, it's the journey, it's because they want to be happy. But really the source of happiness is not the goal. It's the path. It's the journey. It's the process. And so what it seems to be evident to me when I meet people like this is,
Starting point is 01:12:13 it's not so much that they're driven because they want to reach a particular goal. They're driven because they're also enjoying the process. They love the process. And that seems to be the secret. And you talked about the depressed, you know, super rich wealthy person You know there's people and well otherwise otherwise you identify with it
Starting point is 01:12:30 You identify so much with the success that if it goes away or the money fades or changes the process you can always have We were we interviewed this kid yesterday, right? 2.0 something or 4 million followers on Instagram and he's 28 years old with that and This kid anxiety just broke down crying in the middle of the pod so Bradley Martin, you know that is so he's 28 years old with that and this kid anxiety just broke down crying in the middle of the pot She do so Bradley Martin, you know that is so he's a he's a tubers. Yeah, he's a youtuber in a fitness celebrity guy That you know got got famous through social media. He got cool. He got fit. Yeah, it's very He's got a cool story and he's got a great heart really good kid, dude
Starting point is 01:13:01 Yeah, nice guy, but you you see him, we interview him yesterday. Cry baby, nice guy. Yeah, well he breaks down but you could see because you had it all bottled up because he identified so much with it because before that he didn't have any fame. All of it and it just blew up like overnight. Also he becomes this celebrity on social media on Instagram, 2 million, YouTube, 2 million. No one teaches how to deal with that. No, no.
Starting point is 01:13:23 And he's like, I mean literally you could see it in his eyes when we walked up, like I was like, man, this is going to be a weird interview because this really good. You can't really look at the side. Shakey. Yeah. Poor guy. Yeah. No, no, 28. Well, not young, but he'll figure it out. No, he, you could tell that was what happened. So we started talking to him and, you know, it would, it ended up being a great interview afterwards. But you could just see this poor guy has attached himself so much to that. He's just trying to navigate through it. Right, come out the other side, all right. No, he's killing him. I mean, he's killing it right now with everything he's doing. He could just,
Starting point is 01:13:52 but he's struggling with that. And I think yeah, there's a difference between killing it career-wise and killing it in life, isn't it? Oh, fucking, fucking, hey, there's a difference. It doesn't sound like he's killing it as far as his personal life in with himself. I can't even give a fuck if you have 30 million followers. You have a good podcast like a lot of times If you aren't content with their life, probably there are most people that are at that level that we mean I feel like are very lonely. Yeah, you would I mean and all these other people that are looking up thing Like oh, I just want to be there. I just want to meet them like do you have no idea how lonely these motherfuckers are? Yeah, I think it just depends. I don't I don't know this guy
Starting point is 01:14:23 I don't know what it took for me to get there, but what does it take for someone like you to break your circle? Like, when you meet people, because everybody wants to piece you. Everybody wants to talk to you at this point and your career and stuff, wants to hang out, wants to talk to you, wants to be your friend, what attracts you to another human being? They're like, I would now pick up the call and talk to this guy.
Starting point is 01:14:41 I don't know. That's a good question. You have some good questions. I don't know. I don't know. It's rare I do that., I'm good question. I don't know. I don't know. It's rare I do that. I think, you know, I meet so many people. I need you to tell people with good intentions and stuff like that. But if I'm home, if I'm in LA, I'm a home body man.
Starting point is 01:14:54 I'm really not out. I have my store at the comedy store. I'll do that and I go home. I'm not a big social guy outside of this. I think because my work is my social life. Like this, to me, I don't need to go out and have bears tonight or go out and get in. We just chatted up for two hours.
Starting point is 01:15:11 We're all set, yeah, just dude. So I check those boxes off with my work, which most people don't. So I'm good, there's no happy. I don't know what the fuck with the happier, no, we're good. Yeah, this is my happy hour, man. That's awesome. Looking ahead, what's in your future?
Starting point is 01:15:26 What's your ultimate dream? Netflix special would be the home run, but I still won't be happier content. And then, you know, the show, I'm gonna start doing in January. Hopefully that's a hit and that goes well. Can you talk about it at all? Is that still something we got to do?
Starting point is 01:15:40 I mean, I'm- I'm not telling anyone. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just by millions of listeners. Yeah. I mean, it's something where people are gonna be like, why? That's out of left field. What a show that I'm waiting to find out if I got will be out of left field where people are like,
Starting point is 01:15:53 damn, I can't believe he's doing that. This one's like, oh, that makes sense. Okay. So I can tell you that I pitched the show something I was thinking of. It's something I'm kind of already currently doing just based on TV now, so. Okay. Yeah, man. Great. What do you think about, I know you're already currently doing just based on TV now. So, okay. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 01:16:05 Great. What do you think about, I know you're the business mind and fight in the kid. What do you think about like Netflix and the evolution of business? I find it very, I think it's very fascinating. I love it. I find it fascinating. I think it's right up our alley. And I think, you know, when I was in Australia, I was talking to a promoter there and he
Starting point is 01:16:19 goes, you know, the dynamics of entertainment is just changing because, you know, there's bigger name guys than you, but they're older. So when they come out to Australia, after buy billboards, after do radio spots, he has to do media tours, and it costs me a lot of money. A guy like you who understands social media
Starting point is 01:16:37 and it has a digital presence, he goes, you know how much money I spent for you to sell out all these theaters? I go, how much goes, it's zero. You did it yourself on your podcast Yeah, you guys have a tribe already. Yeah, so he goes the you know the podcasters of youtubers people these young comics who understand Social media Make so much more money than these older huge names because they don't get it. Do you think it's gonna change this town?
Starting point is 01:16:58 I was gonna say Hollywood's Hollywood talk about that. Um, I mean less are getting, you know, jacked off on. Now that that's out there. I can't be happy. I hear these stories and I'm like, fuck you guys, man. And I was driving around. He's like pedophile, pedophile. I was like, oh my god. I love seeing this new breed of people coming out
Starting point is 01:17:20 through YouTube and Netflix and kind of self-promoting building themselves up because it used to be like this good old boys club. Like you couldn't get your voice out. You couldn't do anything unless you went through. Which I love. It'd be too. For a guy like me, especially at Fox and I might just speak with them.
Starting point is 01:17:33 Like this ain't 1997. I'm not gonna shut me down. I mean, you shut me down. I'm gonna go do my own shit. I'm bringing my entire tribe with me. We're just going over here, man. There's not seven channels. You're not CBS and I'm on PBS now.
Starting point is 01:17:46 I'm fucking out. Tell me what that conversation was like. That had to feel fucking good to know that, walking in there. So remember, though, when I make these decisions, I don't consult with Brian. I just do it. Yeah, we're fired from five. So I'm gonna talk later.
Starting point is 01:17:58 I just like, I go off what I think's right, and what my instinct is, and I always bank on myself and Brian and we always have We got to this point, you know with through the contract where I didn't want your money Just let me do my thing and I reap the benefits from it. Okay, do that. Then he gets big and then you know at the time I just didn't like the way the guy who's gone now Jamie Horowitz who he might be a good guy, but just the way he would talk down to me I'm like, oh, this isn't gonna work, man. You think you're better than me.
Starting point is 01:18:26 I actually have some good ideas about a TV show, which just got greenlit. I actually have some good ideas about a TV show. You're talking to me like I'm some dumbass. You don't realize my worth, or I respect you, respect me. So when they're talking to me like that, I was like, I'll fuck you, I'm out, man. And I just went off my instinct.
Starting point is 01:18:43 We're gonna be fine. We're gonna land on our feet. We've always been on ourselves. And so I called Brian and told him, he's just like, oh, I got him. I'm like, bro, just trust me. And he goes, oh, so we don't have a studio. I'm like, now here's the thing.
Starting point is 01:18:55 Not exactly. We're building it right now. You remember all that shit we had in our old studio? We can't get in there. And if you go in there, you're gonna get arrested. That's true story. And if you even attempt to go in there, they're gonna rescue. It's dead to you now.
Starting point is 01:19:07 And I went, well, just let me deal with it. You just show up. And he's like, all right, man. And he's like, I think we should issue an apology. I'm like, you don't do shit. Let me deal with this. So I built this a student like a week right across the street from Fox Sports.
Starting point is 01:19:20 Perfect. Bigger, nicer, faster, stronger studio. And, you know, here we are. Fuck, that's awesome, man. Again, I have no animosity towards Fox. When I was working for Showtime, doing the Mayweather McGregor thing, I saw them, you know, a bunch of times.
Starting point is 01:19:35 It's all love, man. Like, there's no hand. I'm not stealing anything away from them. They're not stealing anything away from me. I'd work with them again, but, you know, it's just, hey, man, like, we're all sharks here. You know, we're all, take it easy. Right, right, hey man, like, we're all sharks here. You know, we're all taking it easy. Right, right.
Starting point is 01:19:47 The dynamics have changed, man. That's right. I was going to jack off on a plant next to me and just be all good. You know what I'm saying? I'm saying, I got to think that ignites your fire, though, like to have someone think like that. Like, underestimate you. Just those chips on my shoulder where I didn't get the Jersey as a kid
Starting point is 01:20:02 or you treated me as a lesser than when I was in college. Okay, cool man, I've been through this way worse before, but now I actually have a tribe behind me. So again, you're not gonna shut me up. You can say this and do this, that's fine. This isn't your cup of tea, but I have all these followers with me, it happened to be about 16 million of them. So we're gonna go, we're gonna take our ball,
Starting point is 01:20:22 we're gonna go over here. You can continue to do your thing, but nothing changes for me, man. They have a tough time with that change, man. It reminds me of when Netflix went into blockbuster and blockbuster laughed him out of the room or whatever, they have a tough time realizing like the power has changed.
Starting point is 01:20:37 It really has changed. And they threw their shots. You know, they went, you know, what, in this before he got fired for sexual harassment, he came out with this statement goes, you know, we're not going to let another fire in the kid happen at Fox. We're going to invest, we're going to invest in our a list talent like Shannon Sharp and Skip Bayless. All right, motherfucker. I mean, dude, tie your chain there. That's crazy. Someone that level did not see that. I feel like it's ego. It's all ego. I was down to work and,
Starting point is 01:21:04 you know, with this TV show that Brian and I were pitching, you know, he had his ideas and they were syncing ship. They still are right now. They're trying to figure out. They've lost 90% of the digital following in content once we left. So they're trying to figure out he's not there anymore and the new heads over there are great
Starting point is 01:21:20 and I'm cool with everyone at UFC tonight. I have no animosity. I help them out however I can. shows bigger than all this but the thing is they're trying to dominate yeah so they'll figure it out man you know they just this this old school mentality this dinosaur mentality yeah but you're not gonna last no it's changing you just nothing you do now I think it's gonna completely I think I mean you see the commercials now for Netflix the original series coming on TV now.
Starting point is 01:21:47 Like, just movies? Yeah, I think movie Smith, that's what I mean. So my agent, though, is the one who represents the director of that, and he told me about, and he showed me the trailer before it's coming out, and like, dude, this is game changing. He's like, yeah, they sign, we'll Smith the TV deal. Holy fuck.
Starting point is 01:22:02 Because I don't want you to move theaters, you know, be, we ain being shot up in that bitch, we were talking, I'm trying to chill at home and to cover to your house. That's what's gonna happen when you wanna watch it, right away. We'll smith, I love we'll smith. Right, yeah, yeah. Marcos, stranger things.
Starting point is 01:22:15 You're like your movie theater, yeah. The only way I see movie theaters surviving is, and you see kind of some of them doing it is changing the experience, right? We're like, if we give the point where virtual reality and you feel like you're a part of the movie and they're otherwise, I think Netflix puts it all down, dude. They're shitting on them, but there's those ones,
Starting point is 01:22:32 like the I-Pick stator, have you guys been to that one? The pair off wheelchair? I think it's wheelchair. It's a recliner and then they have that. They have to do that. They have great food, like, real-class food and drinks, bar upstairs. But you know, you're looking at a $200 night, probably $100 a person.
Starting point is 01:22:46 Yeah. Yeah. Really? It's like, you know, you can get a state dinner. It's an experience. It's an experience. I'd rather just stay at home. Especially when you have kids,
Starting point is 01:22:53 I take my kids in the movies. It's like 70 bucks each time we go to God down movies. Yeah. That's like, I'd rather be at home with other stuff. Have you taken a kid in Disneyland yet? Yeah. Bro, it's so expensive. That's so expensive.
Starting point is 01:23:02 How's it fortune? I took my kid from the first time. This is like a year ago. He's way too young, waste of time. But I call my dad, and because he used to take me when I was a kid when I'm coming in the summers, me and my brother, I was like, hey, how much was it when he used to take us?
Starting point is 01:23:15 And I told him the total, he's like, definitely not that much. It wasn't cheap, but definitely not that much. Like just the parking, the Mickey Mouse ears, and by the time we bought the, got into the goddamn park, I was like, holy fuck. $700?
Starting point is 01:23:27 Yeah, I'm like, you know what you got to give them? And that's what I'll give Disney for this, my sister, so my sister turned 30, like five years ago, and for her 30th birthday, so whatever you want to do, whatever you want to do for your 30th, and she goes, I want to go to Disneyland.
Starting point is 01:23:39 I'm like, you want to go to Disneyland, you're 30, what do I do? And she's the 31st of December, so New Year's Eve. And I'm like, okay, so we set out, and it was a fucking fortune to go there. But I tell you what, I hadn't been there since I was a kid. It's worth it.
Starting point is 01:23:51 As soon as I pulled up the first person, like bringing in the parking lot, fucking comes around my car. That's magic. Pulls out the map, you're gonna go here, and do this, oh, that shit is mad. Every person that I ran into that had a uniformer and name tag on greeted me and read Carpet Trude.
Starting point is 01:24:09 There's a reason why they're killing it. Dude, you been a not-span, you know what I'm doing? No, no. No, no. I'm Ricky. Yeah, I'm Ricky. Yeah, I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky.
Starting point is 01:24:17 I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky.
Starting point is 01:24:24 I'm Ricky. I'm Ricky. I'm there. I'm like, I've never been there. I knew immediately when we pulled down like is that fucking Charlie Brown? Yeah, like how current is Charlie Brown? Where's going on here? Snoopy, I was like, what the fuck? What a snoopy doing it? You like, go wash on the second floor. It was the biggest bummer, man. The rides were shitty. The food was awful. It was like $13 to get in. I was like what is going on? I Took my dog Disneyland is the shit when it comes to stuff out. We were there I'll never forget watching someone spill popcorn kids are walking parents. It's crazy
Starting point is 01:24:55 Or and this and the kids turns and the popcorn goes everywhere It was fine. No, no, no 15 seconds cleaning up. Boom someone's up. Boom, it's crazy, it's so big. My only problem with Disneyland, God bless them. Hopefully, I can not be so conceited and be fat when I'm older, but everyone's so happy. Huge, huge. Huge. Have you been to Disney World?
Starting point is 01:25:16 If that's what America looks like. I went to Disney World, there were little traffic jams from the frickin', what do they call, Lark's or the Rascals? You know, little scooters? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. There were traffic jams, that'sicking what do they call lark service the the rascals you know the scooters are yeah there were traffic jams that's how many of them were there and I think it's even worse there because you get the south you know people from the south going there yeah it's so strange man
Starting point is 01:25:35 it's insane they're so out of shape yeah it's bad that's us as americans right now man it's a bummer it's getting it's a lot of what motivated mind pump I mean we you look at with all the science the information and knowledge we have, but yet diabetes is on the rise. All your autoimmune is on the rise. Like it's a lot, it's a lot, we know more, but yet we're getting well. It's a lot more than just we're eating too much and not moving enough. That's the problem. Like that's that's that's part of the problem. Discipline issue, but it's also the way that society is structured like I don't think humans are meant to be in a Cubicle 9 to 5 and not have to
Starting point is 01:26:08 Electrical lights on. No, I don't think that's normal. That's a that's freaking engineered and Processed but that's quick because we don't have time to eat good food or we don't have time to prepare the good food Or the good foods more expensive, but I don't think humans were put on this earth to be designed to sit down for that long And focus on some job. They don't give a fuck about like that's not living humans were put on the surface to be designed to sit down for that long and focus on some job they don't give a fuck about like that's not living. So when you tell them, oh eat right exercise, like you fucking try man, I got three kids at home, I've been up since 6 a.m. got to my day for school, then I got to be at work by nine, I'm there on goddamn days, then I got to feed them. So it's a tough
Starting point is 01:26:42 dynamic. You know what the craze is in the Silicon Valley where we're at is the, these guys don't even eat. They have the big craze is like a... Soil and, soil and. Have you read this? It's just a fucking meal replacement powder. And the selling point is, you don't need to leave your desk. Just eat this and you don't need food. Just drink this, that's everything you need.
Starting point is 01:27:00 Never leave your desk. Is it delicious? No. No, bro. I don't know. I don't know how to eat meat. I don't know, but if No, no, I don't know. I don't know, I don't know, but if it was delicious, I would love that. But old day, nothing else.
Starting point is 01:27:10 That's a bummer, man. Your base, he turned into almost robots. That's what it is. It's like, whoa, yeah, yeah. You drink everything you're a straw. Goddamn, that's so happening. And these guys are putting up with it. Well, that's why, you know, Apple tried the same shit.
Starting point is 01:27:21 That's why people started coming in suicide jumping off the goddamn building. You know, Apple headquarters in China, they have nets. Yeah, I know. So many people do that suicide. I do not know that. Yeah, yeah. There's a bit of problem.
Starting point is 01:27:31 Enjoy your iPhone, motherfucker, because those people paid the price for it. Yeah, they have to put nets. So many people were like, fuck this, and then jumped off. I didn't know that. You had a great book to read, Irresistible, and they talk about, you know, all these guys that created all this tech, they don't even let their kids use any of it.
Starting point is 01:27:49 Cause they know how bad it is for them. They know how addictive. They know they could drug great book to read. And I think every parent should read it. What's called? Irresistible, Adam Aller. And it gets into that. How old is your kid?
Starting point is 01:28:00 He's 21 months. 21 months. He's already on the phone. He just likes buttons? He's 21 months. 21 months. You know, He's already on the, Ho-Grab my phone, but he's just like buttons. He's like, He's like, Wait till they get an older man. He's so addicting.
Starting point is 01:28:10 But, you know, he has a iPad where if we go to lunch, something, I'll watch his favorite movie, something like that. But I know, like I have a problem, like so on the weekends,
Starting point is 01:28:19 if I'm not working, I leave my phone upstairs, right, I can't touch it, I can't see it. But if I'm around it, I can acknowledge I'm addicted to it. All right.
Starting point is 01:28:27 Like even sitting here, I'm a little shaky with sweat, it's like I'm having a good time. Yeah. And I know if I have that problem and I can serve myself a discipline, dude, other people are fucked. Well, take your seat. We didn't grow up with it.
Starting point is 01:28:39 Big time. We didn't grow up with it, right, Holdy? 34. Yeah, so we didn't grow up with it. Our kids, they're born into it, you know what I mean? It's a bummer though, cause every day when I go to the gym, I drive by Santa Monica High School and the kids are out there waiting for the bus.
Starting point is 01:28:51 They're just getting dropped off. All kids have their backpack. Now, one kid is talking to each other. All of this is like a ghost. I'm like, God, you guys are missing out. Dude, you know what, right now we're seeing a rise in back pain and children. We never had chronic back pain in children.
Starting point is 01:29:04 And it's the posture. It's completely hunched over the entire time, not so- I wonder how we're gonna fix that. Well, it's what's gonna happen is the pendulum's gonna say, and that's why I say read this book, because we've only had 10 years of Facebook and all this shit really, right, or 10 or 12,
Starting point is 01:29:18 whatever they're on right now. It hasn't been that long for us to really have a lot of studies. I know what's really gonna happen. Yeah, like what's happening? And what's coming out is they're saying that the addictive properties are just as bad as heroin and cocaine and things like that. The dopamine releases,
Starting point is 01:29:31 when you get likes or attacks. And what's different is if you're a dope addict and I know you show that, you see that you're ashamed of that. But no one's ashamed to pick their phone up. No one's ashamed to use social media. You're not ashamed of that. In fact, it's encouraged because you can build
Starting point is 01:29:43 a business off of it. So that's a scary thought. Driving in texting is the biggest issue because now they're saying, I speak in a cop the other day, he's saying he sees more wrecks and deaths from Texan driving than drinking and driving now. Wow. Think of me people texting driving again. I'm a re-small fucking dude.
Starting point is 01:29:59 I Texan drive sometimes. Right. I'm guilty of that for sure. Oh, everybody has to. That's the problem. Yeah. And so. I told you,. Oh, everybody has to do that. That's the problem. Yeah. And so, I told you, Dicking it is, you know it. You know that this is a good shit.
Starting point is 01:30:08 I know it's a bad shit. Dude, I was driving a, a fair off Pacific in Venice here, and I'm driving, I'm going three miles an hour to relax, but I'm going, and I'm looking, and this old dude in like an old school chavelle pulls up, and he goes, hey, get the fuck off your phone. And you can't say nothing back. And my instinct was like, what?
Starting point is 01:30:28 But I literally was like, God damn you right, man. My bat, bro, he's like, it's all right. But I was like, just show right. What am I doing, man? And I'll see girls, taxing, makeup, just driving. I'm like, holy fuck, we're going 80 bitch. Like, what are you doing? It's crazy, man.
Starting point is 01:30:44 Yeah, it is. So it's swinging this and it's I think it's a matter of time before it has to come back the other direction It's got to be not cool anymore. It's like cigarettes like it used to be cool to smoke cigarettes and now if you So that's your ever It did That's just part this one this might take a while You look at more of a mass audience. I think what you have to it's I don't know about people being picked at home That's to each its own, that's gonna be a problem they gotta solve,
Starting point is 01:31:07 but as far as tax in driving, you don't have to have the new cars technology, doesn't matter how you're serious. You can do emergency calls, but that's it, there should be no taxing, when you get in the phone, it should shut it off, no matter what. Well, freedom of speech, freedom of will, no fuck that,
Starting point is 01:31:22 no fuck that. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no remember when we interviewed him, like he doesn't drive anywhere, he ubers everything and it's because so he can just stop. Just non-stress. And what's he do? And he's, oh, he's an impact theory. He started, he was one of the founders of a quest nutrition. Yeah, for sure, relax.
Starting point is 01:31:57 Oh, you make protein bars? Relax. Relax. Oh, relax. You don't need to tax and have an uber driver. You're making keto-friendly powder relax the guy solving aids Not solving the laria that's making fucking protein bars. That's what's happening drive your car That's what's happening. I like to drive. I do too. I'm a car guy. I'm a fucking car guy
Starting point is 01:32:21 We're 34 plus years old, but I also don't want a Uber driver Yeah, see that people the younger generation I can't wait to not have I'm really I'm really I'm getting there like 20 or 22 years old like some of these kids are 20 Uber No, what license? I got a little brother. It's fucking 22 does have a license. I don't want to get it I would feel like a loser. Yeah, you're telling me the dynamics are you know? I'm freedom Well, they can't have freedom through Uber now. It's different. It's very different now.
Starting point is 01:32:46 It's just want to get their licenses anymore. It's we're one or two generations away from car ownership being a thing of the past. They're in this business like, ah, fuck. Big time. Guys like you and I who want to hot rod in our cool cars around will be at Laftat. They'll be like, oh, yeah. It'll be like someone riding horses. Yeah, she like horses.
Starting point is 01:33:03 Yeah, she like horses. People are riding a horse. I'm gonna stay on it on it I'm just like just like if skinny jeans got a sound fucking right in the south man I'm right I'm right in my horse like a fanny pack in the 80s fucking guys I don't care you know what we have we're gonna have to do this again for sure man 100% yeah yeah yeah if you ever have a debate we get a what? We're gonna have to do this again for sure 100% yeah, yeah, yeah, if you ever open the bay area, we get a whole Let's do it around your show cuz we're that's right. We're high enough. Let's do it Let me figure out when it is and yeah, we have a whole like pod we have a whole studio media facility Anytime and we're gonna come heckle the fuck yeah
