The link is in the description.
Life is just like Forrest Gump said, a box of chocolates.
You never know what you're going to get.
Take that first step.
Do whatever it is that you thought you couldn't do,
and don't be afraid because that is the most important moment in your life.
Our actions, not our pasts define who we are.
Don't do it later.
Don't do it tomorrow.
Don't wait for one more day to pass you by. Do it now.
You can get through to doing things that you hate to do. On the other side is greatness.
That's what people are saying. By me running, I am callous in my mind. I'm not training for a race. I'm training for life.
Massive action is the only thing that works.
One of the things you have to understand about life is everything changes and everything ends.
You're wasting your life and you're noticing it and that you're making yourself much less than you could be and that you're making things around you
worse for everyone else and let me say it one more time if you will change everything will change
You'll never be the same you'll keep growing as you look back on a few months look back on a few years
You won't believe progress you could make
Don't waste your time
Do you know that everybody alive gets exactly the same amount of time we get all there is? It's what we do with it
that makes a difference. Don't waste your life. Set your goals high. Quit thinking about what's wrong.
Start thinking what's right. You trying to convince me or anybody else that you want to get it
when you partying all week. As soon as you get any kind of money, you're buying a bunch of shit
that you really can't afford. It's time to stay focus. It's time to decide clubs,
party and trying to fit in and socialize,
rub elbows with everybody so people can stop calling you weird.
If I can start the hardest chain in the world,
broken and graduate, so my mind fed off of that,
you are now from the weakest man,
you're now the hardest man to ever live.
If you can do this, if you can do this,
life is one big mind game.
And you're playing it with yourself.
Is it true?
I don't care.
It got me through the hardest training, starting out broken.
Where most people quit, I had just started.
If you see that you have an empty calendar,
most people assume that if someone asks you for that time,
it's therefore theirs.
And it's only not theirs when someone else has claimed it,
which means that your time,
only belongs to other people.
And then you're surprised by the fact
that your investment of time
has yielded nothing for you
when you've given the only
and most valuable asset that you have
to everyone else
who often give a very poor return on it
for you.
When the life conditions change,
your blueprint has to change with it.
Either like, if you're not happy,
you either have to change your life
or change your blueprint,
your expectations.
Like, when you say something to the extent of,
not you,
but just a person, I'll get to it tomorrow.
I'm like, who promise you that?
Right?
I'll get to it a month from now.
I'm like, who promise you that?
Right?
Because light changes so quick.
I think it was early on I realized that, you know,
one of the things you have to understand about life is
everything changes and everything ends.
And that kind of sounds heavy on the front end,
but it's a truth.
If everything changes and everything ends,
number one, it should make you appreciate what you have right now.
And then my view is what's next is always better.
All of the values of life that you could possibly want.
If you'll make that clear, make those lists and be serious about it.
I promise you it's an easy price to pay.
Anybody can pay it.
And the best advice I can give you is if I can do it, you can do it.
Farm boy from Idaho raised in obscurity.
I changed my life, turned it upside down, turned it all around, found economics, found future, found promise.
And if I can do it, you can do it.
A lot of people are like, oh, I've been at this job for seven years.
If I leave now, I've given it all up, I'm wasting time, I'm wasting everything.
You're not wasting it.
Staying in a cancer-filled environment is wasting time.
When it's a dead end, it's a dead end.
You staying longer doesn't change it being a dead end.
Massive action is the only thing that works.
So if you're thinking about positive things, all the things that you want to make come true, all of that,
and it's forcing you to take massive action, you're going out and you're executing, you believe that you can do it,
you focus on that you can do it and then you actually learn the skills acquired ah and go and execute
then that's fucking amazing when you work and you actually are working you're writing the emails
that you need to write you're you're you're preparing for the podcast you're doing that that
that work that you know is not short work it's this is going to take me two hours doesn't take me
four hours when you get to the end of that and you're like man i'm kicked you know i'm this
I earned my shower today.
I think the difference is that at that point, you go, you grab a bottle of water, and then you look at your to-do list at the next large thing and say, great, let's start on this.
Most people go through life, living the lie that has been told about them.
And we are encouraged, be ye not conform to this world, be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, work constantly to
renew your mind, to expand your vision of yourself, to hold a vision of yourself, living in the
future, living a life of contribution. He said, I'll give you all your eyes can see. Greater is he
that is in you than he that's in the world? There's something in you that's greater than your circumstances.
There's something in you that's greater than the adversities that you're facing. With dwelling and
doubting and against self-doubt comes lack of activity and lack of activity produces no results,
then you question your abilities, then you say,
I don't know if I can really do this
and why am I putting myself through this
and then you quit.
And when you take that mindset
and you learn to flip that around,
that's what made me powerful
and my body followed.
I'm at that point where life has come to me
and I had that feeling if I've arrived.
I now know my life for what I know it to be
is over.
Even though that's where comfort is
and everything else,
I found the most life in the most uncomfortable places in the world.
Anything I can imagine I can make happen.
So I am really careful about how small my thoughts are,
because I don't feel like wasting time in a 25 hour a day making this much.
And I can spend the same amount of time with the same amount of energy.
If I art detective, I have this much.
And with this much, I can help so many more people that I love.
But then I really began to realize it doesn't matter how much money you make.
it's really your capacity to take your creativity and stop trading time for money.
It's the worst trade in the world.
Everybody's a financial trader.
They don't realize their trader.
They're trading time.
You can't get more time.
Stop waiting for things to happen.
Go out and make them happen.
We fall into a trap of thinking we all have time in the world to get what we want done.
But one day you'll wake up and there won't be any more time to do the things that you've
always wanted.
Remember that sometimes later becomes never.
The only way you're ever going to get to the other side of this journey
is you have got to suffer, to grow.
To grow, you must suffer.
And some people will get it and some people won't.
But they have to see what their journey is to start their journey.
Several people live to be 100 years old and they have great lives.
But somewhere in their life, there was a point where they had a decision to make.
They can go left or right on this path.
Left was the easy route.
Right was the hard route.
A lot of people take the easy route.
And they had a good life that way,
but the better life was going to the right side.
And you may have 20 years of pain and suffering to get past it,
but a lot of us died never truly start in our journey.
Be the guy who embraces the ugly, the miserable.
Be the guy who embraces hard work, the grind.
Don't be afraid of being hurt.
Don't be afraid of sacrifice to some blood.
Imagine if you can use pain as a fuel.
Imagine if you could use the pain as a passport.
Imagine if you could use the pain to push you, to condition you,
to prepare you for the stages and the rooms you've got to walk into
and the tables you've got to sit at and the stages you have to stand on.
What if the pain can make you better?
What if the pain can build muscle?
What if the pain can cause you to reach higher to leap farther, to run faster?
So what if the pain could help you?
What if all pain isn't hurt, but it's help?
We're built to walk uphill.
And when you reach the pinnacle of the hill,
you want to stop and appreciate the vision.
But the next thing you want is a higher hill in the distance,
because it's from the uphill climb that we derive our value.
And I mean this technically.
So almost all the positive emotion we feel,
that's experienced in relationship to a goal.
And so in some sense, you want a goal that you can never attain, right?
So you can always move closer to the goal that recedes as you move towards it.
You think, well, that's frustrating.
It's like Sisyphus pushing the rock uphill.
But it's not because as you pursue that goal, you put yourself together and your life does get better and richer and more abundant.
We're running from the truth, man.
So the only way I became successful was going towards the truth, as painful and as brutal.
As it is, it changed me.
It allowed me to become, in my own right, who I am today.
All the pain and suffering that they put on top of me in Hell Week,
I will reverse that pain and suffering, and I will take your soul.
So every instructor that put me through buds, my job what drove me,
was I wanted you to go home that night after you beat the living shit out of me.
And I smiled in your face.
I wanted you to feel worse than I did,
and you were going home to a nice, warm bed with your wife or your kids and a nice meal,
and I was still out there in the grip, suffering for another hundred hours.
I wanted you to think about me, knowing that I'm comfortable, being very unfucking comfortable.
The thing about transformation is you have to do it.
You've got to put in the work when nobody cares.
You know, nobody cared if I practiced.
Nobody cared if I worked out.
I didn't have parents who were like, hey, you know, Dan, you got to go to the gym.
Oh, hey, Dan, you know, go out and run some sprints.
Nobody cared.
If you want to transform, you have to do the work if nobody cares.
There's only one person who has to care.
That's you.
You've got to care.
You've got to want it.
And the reason I think is different for everybody to want.
Some comes out of pain.
Some comes out of, you know, I want to prove somebody wrong.
And then I think some people just have that switch inside.
I'm all talk shit, let them all make their noise, because at the end of the day,
you are the only one who has the guts.
We have the guts to go to work and show up every day.
single fucking day, day in and day out, putting in the work.
You fight through the noise, you fight through the fatigue, you fight through it all,
you stay extremely intensely focused on the goal.
And once you fight through that fatigue, you fight through the noise.
On the other side of that is your goals.
On the other side of that is the accomplishment.
On the other side of that is your greatness.
If you have a sufficiently noble purpose, the suffering will justify itself.
And I think that's empirically testable.
And I do believe it's the case, because I've watched people do very difficult things.
And what that shows is that if you turn around and you confront the suffering voluntarily,
you find out that you are way tougher than you think.
It's not that life is better than you think.
Life is as harsh as you think.
It might even be worse.
But you are way tougher than you think if you turn around and confront it.
And so then what you discover is that there's a spirit within you that can pursue something meaningful
that has the resilience and the strength to contend properly with the catastrophe of existence
without becoming bitter.
If you're feeling pain, keep going.
If your lungs are working, keep going.
You hurt, you grow, you go.
And from the bottom of my heart, keep it moving,
and conduct your business.
My biggest fear in life is if there is a final resting place in this world,
and there's a final judgment,
and you talk to something much bigger than you.
I don't want to sit down and have a conversation with someone,
with something that says, you're in heaven,
this is what you should have been on earth.
And are you really in heaven now?
Are you in hell?
A lot of us speak in hollow words.
I used to speak in hollow words.
I don't do anymore.
Everything that comes out of mouth has substance.
It's real.
And we all have these feelings in our bodies,
in our minds, and our souls.
I act on mine.
A lot of us who are afraid of something,
we allow our minds to choose the path
at least resistance so we go a different route.
I'm afraid of something is telling me you must
do this thing. You must do that.
You have to go that way.
And most of us don't understand that mentality.
We go left and we wonder why
we haven't fulfilled something in our lives.
You've just gone through a breakup
and it's the worst thing you've ever been through
because you haven't had the time
and the experience yet to develop worse.
And to turn around and look at that
in relation to the realities of a long life well lived.
And one day you're going to try and look back
and you're going to say,
that really wasn't such a disaster.
And in fact, that was probably the best thing ever happened to me.
I get it.
The pain is unbearable.
You keep playing it back in your head.
The situation is on repeat.
Over and over and over,
you keep trying to see where you went wrong.
And you feel like you can't.
take the pain anymore what you're gonna do are you gonna prove them right or are you
gonna prove them wrong are you gonna show them that failure doesn't define who you are
you gonna show them that failure is a necessary lesson on the path to success are you
going to show them that you're a beast in this game you've got to get hungry you got to get ready
Get up!
It's time to get to work and show them all.
That's the game, right?
Like, either you're right or you're wrong.
Either you win or you lose.
But if you're going to come to me and tell me you don't have time
in a world where I work every second for 18 hours a day, right?
You're going to have a tough time making me feel bad
that it's not happening for you because that's part of it.
It's simple.
It's now or never time.
What would have had to have happened in a week for you to look back on that week with pride?
Okay, maybe stop breaking promises to yourself.
When you say, I'm going to wake up tomorrow at 7 a.m.
And when the option comes to hit the snooze button, don't do it.
There's one win that you've got for the day.
That's action.
So it all comes down to this moment.
This moment is the only time we can transform.
And I say joy now or never.
Don't miss the opportunity of this moment.
Because the days are going to be long, but the months will be short.
You have an opportunity.
Seize the opportunity.
We all get wake-up calls.
We get wake-up calls in our relationship.
We get wake-up calls in our finances.
And some people, the phone's ringing off the hook right now.
They're getting wake-up calls on a bunch of things.
They're at home with their family, and they're starting to realize I was disconnected from my family.
I haven't been plugged in my mother.
They've got a wake-up call on their relationships at home.
They've gotten a wake-up call on, you know, I don't have any savings and I've got, I'm deeply in debt.
This isn't working.
And so the cool thing is when you get the call, then you have to make the choice.
Are you going to answer the phone?
If we pick the phone up, that means maybe it's time to change.
Are you going to answer the phone?
Are you going to change your life where you say, never again?
Maybe it's time to increase your quality of life.
Maybe instead of staying in the middle back seat, right?
It's time to upgrade to the exit row.
Right.
Or business class.
Business class.
Or maybe it's time to eat at a different restaurant.
Maybe it's time to really think about your money dial and say, hey, I always claim
that wellness is important.
And yet I'm still eating like the same old thing I used to eat 10 years ago.
Maybe it's time to upgrade what I eat and where I work out and all that kind of my gear.
You can do that.
You've made it.
You already won the basic game.
So now you get to benefit from it.
I believe if you're the kind of person that has spent two,
much time thinking about where to go, that it's time to get in the car and start driving.
And you have to be able to pivot quickly. You have to be able to adjust fast. You have to constantly
be aware of the changes around you. And you don't have time to kind of say, well, I'm going to
give it six months and think about it. You know, you give it six days and hit it. The fastest person
doesn't win the race, it's the person who starts first.
Be the now of what you want to be later. It starts right now.
And if you're not doing the now, don't ever expect it later.
Be the person you want to look in the mirror. Everyone's like, oh, later in life, I want to do this.
Later in life, I want to do that.
Later in life is turning around looking the mirror right now. That's the later in life.
Unless that turnaround is something impregion, later in life, later in life,
Take amazing difference.
Absolutely, you do whatever it takes, okay?
Even if it risk your life, that's your dream.
I made the decision that, look, this is what I want to do.
Somebody's giving me an opportunity, I'm going to take advantage of it.
I have 24 hours in the day.
I try to take advantage of every hour.
Yeah, most days I just want to wake up and make the most of the time I have.
I realize it's finite, and I think I'm here for some purpose.
That's what I was trained to believe in my own family, spiritual.
like we're all here for some purpose to give.
Then mostly I'm just like constantly worried that I'm not fulfilling that promise.
I was like, wow, if I'm not pushing myself to do more and to have more impact,
then I'm not really taking full advantage of why I'm here.
Because if you spend your time learning too much and never acting, you're going to fail, right?
If you spend your time acting, acting, acting, but you're never learning what you're doing,
you're going to fail.
If you spend your time chasing opportunity and never doing anything, you're going to be at best
in some famous person's entourage, right?
I think that's how those people end up there,
because you see opportunity, but you never act.
As humans, I realize, like, we all have these reservoirs,
this untapped potential inside of us,
and can achieve these extraordinary things
when we're focused, when we shine positivity in light,
when we lean into those that we love and uplift
and co-create together.
But we usually don't pay attention to what's here right now.
Right now, you and I are here.
Everything we think our story is,
our accomplishments, our problems are BS.
We're just this moment.
It's true.
And everyone watching this,
if you really understand the highest truth,
of what's going on, we're all even.
There's no, this person is better or less,
and there's none of that.
We're just this space that's here.
Now, from here, you have skies the limit possibilities.
I chased opportunity, like viciously chased opportunity.
Then I learned once I got there,
and then I didn't hesitate to apply it.
You know, the worst thing you could ever do
is if you're pursuing the wrong dream,
or if your dream changes and you don't change with it.
I know from a personal level what that feels like to be in pain
or to feel like you're not worthy or that, you're never going to be anything.
And I was like, you know what?
It's time for me to free my mind and resentment and anger
and all these things that I kind of will just keep internally.
It's time to rewrite this story.
If you're about to make a change in your life
and you feel uncomfortable, that's the best feeling you can have.
because for the first time in your life you'll make a decision that's going to be best for you.
Now it's your moment.
Hey, time to win.
Your time to make a difference.
Now is your time to have an impact.
Now is your time to make straight A's.
Now is your time to be noticed.
Now is your time to be heard.
Now is your time to be seen.
Now is your time to do this thing.
It's your moment.
The only belief that matters is that if you put time and energy
into getting better at something, you'll actually get better.
And that those skills have utility.
And typically when somebody learns something easier,
we say, oh, they were born with it.
But the reality is they get a disproportionate return
on the amount of time that they spend studying that thing.
They still have to study that thing.
And so you don't find people achieve.
just levels of greatness, you know, even take a LeBron, who the amount of time that he spends
working on his craft, making sure that his body's in peak physical condition, reading the game,
all of that. He has to do all that, even though he has also incredible natural talent.
So it can be useful to look for areas where, hey, I have a love for this thing and I'm good at it.
I get a disproportionate return.
That's a better way to think of it.
That when I put energy into learning this thing,
I get maybe 1.3x return on that versus somebody else
who might get a point seven return.
But what I want everybody to understand is you get a return.
And so once you understand that you get a return,
it may take you longer.
You may have to work harder than somebody else.
But if you love it enough and you want to be that thing,
then you can become that thing.
But now is your moment.
Now is your time.
Now is the time
where the talking is done.
Now is the moment where
you got to make a decision.
And the decision is simply this.
Are you ready to take the next step?
Are you ready to start the new chapter?
Are you ready to go and build a legacy?
Are you ready?
It is the battles that you face today
that prepare you for tomorrow's wars.
You're going to find peace from going to war
with yourself because we all got shit.
The celebration was I can start
the war now. It wasn't that
I won the war, I can start
my war. That's what made me
that's what I've been celebrated since because I'm always
in that battle.
Nobody believes in you. You've lost
again and again and again. The lights
are cut off, but you're still looking at
your dream, reviewing it every day
and say to yourself, it's not
over until I win.
Congratulations.
You achieve failure.
Now, the only place to go from failure is to win.
You have to achieve failure.
You have to take it that far.
Nobody wants to go that far.
It's too scary.
But you know something?
I got news for you.
That's where winning is.
It always has been.
Nothing's changed since the 70s.
Nothing.
There comes a day where being average, being mediocre,
is just sickening to you.
It's just sickening. It makes you want to throw up. There comes a fucking day where push comes a shelf
We're being mediocre being like average and shit just fucking burns. It sucks so much
You can't deal with it one more day and you get off your fucking ass and you create something it's always been there
My dreams don't live down there
That's what my granddad used to tell me
When I used to walk in those projects I look down and see you
Pipes. I'll see bullets. I'll see blood stains. But when I looked in the sky, I saw my dreams. I saw my opportunity.
Like you try to argue yourself out of pain and see how far you get. You might think, well, that's not the sort of meaning I meant. It's like, you know, a negative meaning is a place to start, right?
Because if something's negative and it's real, it does imply that there's something positive that's real.
It might be harder to get a hold of. At least it's not pain.
I would gladly relive everything I have been through,
provided I had this outcome.
Because who I am now and what I offer the world,
I wouldn't want to give that up
to avoid going through those dark days of the pain I went through.
I think it was all worth it to turn me into who I am now.
I was an absolute excruciating pain.
But what motivated me through that whole process
was the fact that this kid came from that,
I'm in the hardest training in the world,
in the worst shape of my entire life.
What if I can graduate amongst these studs?
Wow.
The pain, it won't stop, the suffering, it won't cease,
and it's hard to see it.
It's hard to see a better outcome for yourself, my friend.
And I understand, but look, if you just believe, my friend, and you keep believing and you hold on to that belief, brighter days are coming.
Weather through the storm, my friend, weather through the pain.
And I promise you, you will come out victorious.
You just have to keep believing, my friend.
You know, can I get to that level?
I don't know, but let's find out.
On the other side of your fear is a fulfilled destiny.
How bad do you want it?
Whatever your giant may be, name the giant,
you will defy me no more.
You will defy me no more.
You will defy me no more!
And people don't understand that.
And worse than that, they're intimidated by that.
And even worse, they try to discredit that because they do not have the level of passion and obsessiveness to get to that level.
So they figure the best thing to do is to tear that level down.
That's fucked up.
What a warrior is is this.
A person is willing to die for an ideal.
You know, and for me, it's freedom, right?
It's compassion.
It's humility.
It's humanity.
I'm willing to fight for all these things.
ran toward the Philistine. David ran towards the army.
Goliath must fall.
There's a lot of internal battles.
And let me tell you, the worst type of battles are not a battle with anybody else outside.
The worst, most painful, frustrating battles I've ever faced in my life is me against me.
Biggest.
It's never been against anybody else.
It's been me against me.
It's been Pat versus Pat.
It's been the biggest battles of my life.
Is Pat versus Pat.
Be brave.
Be strong. Come for the head of your giant. However big, however tall, however strong,
it will no longer defy you. You will not cower in darkness.
At the end of it all, if you can sit back and wait, if you can wait, six, seven, eight, nine,
ten, twelve years, when you get to that point when you finish, that's the feeling for
twelve years. That's it. This is it's a way twelve years to get there. That's what keeps you
going is you got to feel I want I'm doing it for one second years of pain for one second one second
think about I put the work into this like every day all day and then when I'm done with it
guess what I do I dream about it I visualize it I see myself being successful I see myself hitting
those shots with no time on the clock, with a little time on the clock, and then I'll do it again
and say, hey, what if we're down two? Then I'll do it again and say, what if we're down three?
You know, it's a never-ending game. Everything worth having in life needs to be earned. You got to go
out there with a relentless mindset and put 120% effort in every single fucking day. No matter what,
no matter how you feel, no matter the circumstance, you've got to show the fuck up and earn it. And if you
attack every day with that mindset number one you will never achieve it and number two
you don't fucking deserve to in the first place we must put on that suit of armor and
prepare ourselves for battle yes every battle cannot be won but the winning attitude
to not give up is more than enough to carry on these battles that
that we face each and every day of our lives,
they will continue to come.
And you will not win every battle.
And the battles that you face will help you to get stronger.
Because even if you lose a battle,
and you're still breathing, and you're still walking,
and you're still able to make moves,
then you still have enough fight left
to carry all way. People say you can't do that. You can do anything. We are God's highest form of creation.
There is nothing on the planet that will equal us. Every bad thing that has ever happened to you is your fault.
Now I use the word fault to shake people up that you were never, ever, ever, ever, ever a victim unless you choose to be.
Everything in your life will change. You're always in control.
a man provides.
If you don't protect what belongs to you,
then sooner or later, it belongs to someone else.
It goes for your land, your wallet, your home, your country, everything.
It is your job as a man to protect it.
The story of the whole goddamn world.
You don't hate yourself.
You don't think you suck.
You're not the imposter.
You're not insecure.
Somebody taught you that.
In 2008, we had the third.
consecutive failure of the Falcon rocket for SpaceX.
Tesla almost went bankrupt.
We closed our financing round.
6 p.m. Christmas Eve, 2008.
It was the last hour of the last day that it was possible.
We would have gone bankrupt two days after Christmas, otherwise.
And I got divorced.
That was like rough.
If things had just gone a little bit the other way,
both companies would be dead.
The reason there's going to be a billion motivation,
views today on YouTube is that people love the feeling of being motivated.
They don't like putting in the work to do something about the feeling.
For 10 years, I heard every person I know making fun of me.
I heard every person I know telling me it was that I was wasting my time.
I heard every, I've had every time when I tell them what we're going to do.
And by the way, we've done it by now.
Laugh at my face.
And I'm sure you guys can relate to that.
You know, very few people bet on the underdog.
But if you would have, you were the one big.
And that happened to be, we, us, we bet on ourselves.
Work like hell.
I mean, you just have to put in, you know, 80-hour, 80-to-hundred-hour weeks every week.
And then...
It's a lot of work.
But all those things improve the odds of success.
I found that nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks.
Nothing.
Nelson Mandela said there is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that's less than the one you're capable of living
Do you think Elon Musk has work-life balance? No. Do you think Steve Jobs when he was alive had work-life balance?
No. Do you think Bill Gates? No. Henry Ford, no. Original Heineken, no. So if none of those people that created the wealth of the world had work-life balance,
Why do you think you're going to have it?
Because you deserve it?
I don't think so.
You deserve what you get in life by working hard.
I'll say this again, but like sometimes you have to let other people's dreams for your life die, for yours to live.
At the end of the day, only execution matters.
So if you have big dreams, if you have goals, something that you're trying to accomplish in your life,
you're going to have to execute against that.
If you're willing to pay the price and you're willing to do the work,
and you're willing to take the time,
and you're willing to consistently get up
when you are knocked down over and over and over again,
which is going to happen to you,
if you're pursuing anything outside of the norm,
you can make it here in America.
When you have passion around something
that you are squeezing every last bit of the juice out of the orange, right?
To me, hustle is maximizing the energy you're putting into somebody.
I'm blown away by people saying that they're hustling
and they want to achieve these great things
and then their actions don't match.
It's like saying you really want to lose weight
while eating a Big Mac, right?
So to me, hustle would be putting all your effort
into achieving the goal at hand
and for me that means making every minute count.
I hate any entrepreneur that is like, you know, sad.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, it's always hard.
Like, it's always going to be hard.
It's hard when it's a bubble because everything's $150,000 for a $40,000 worker, right?
It's hard when it blows because there's no money and nobody's buying and nobody's believing.
It's always hard.
Sometimes you have to let other people's dreams for your life die for years to live.
And for me, it was like when I, when I continued to every day not want to wake up,
that was my wake up call where I was like, either I continue to live this way and not want to be alive,
I just risked the fact that I'll die to everybody else.
And I think that it was the hardest decision in my entire life, by far.
All the hard stuff we went through, still the hardest decision in my life.
Fall forward.
This is what I mean.
Reggie Jackson struck out 2,600 times in his career the most in the history of baseball.
But you don't hear about the strikeouts.
People remember the home runs.
Fall forward.
Thomas Edison conducted 1,000 failed experiments.
Did you know that?
I didn't know that.
because the 1,001st was the light bulb fall forward.
Every failed experiment is one step closer to success.
My truth and my experience has been, I have to jump higher, I have to show up earlier,
I have to be the first person to turn off the light, and the last person to turn off the light.
I have to make sure that every number is correct and every T is crossed and every dye is audit.
Dotted.
The way that I show up is by being consistent, so consistent,
that people cannot doubt your capacity to succeed.
You have to work harder than the average person.
And if you accept those terms,
you cannot complain about those terms.
I have only known success on the back of consistency.
Do I think you could be a success without being consistent?
Perhaps if you have other resources and tools that I was never given,
but coming for where I am,
my perspective has only been.
Consistency and the discipline has been everything that I have ever gotten
on the back of doing it again.
again and again. It is what I teach. It is what I preach is what I believe. Play it out. What if you just
never do anything? Is like maybe some people just need to stop dreaming. Maybe they need to accept their
current reality and actually enjoy it because there's a lot of people when they're 70 and 80 and they
didn't do their dreams. And if they went back, like they didn't do anything, but that whole time
they were dissatisfied because they didn't try. But what if they were just like, I have a good life.
I have a life who loves me. I've got some kids. I have a job that I, you know, like I don't mind it,
paste the bills. I mean, if you go back 500 years, it wasn't people like, man, this is my passion.
It's like, dude, I'm just rowing a rowing a boat across a ferry, and that's what I do.
And that's what my dad did and his dad did. Like, this is how we eat. And so, like, we have these
these idealized versions of purpose that I think Instagram and all this stuff kind of make terrible.
But like, I think there's a lot of honor and work, period. And I think a lot of people
fool themselves by thinking that what they do for some reason is not horrible. And I think a lot
of it's like the internal versus external scorecard of like, like,
I was saying what I said earlier about like, I believe these things to be true about the universe or like the world.
But a lot of those are like, what do I believe about myself?
Which is like, I can choose to do work in this way, which then I can derive joy from.
So like, if I'm struck, I can choose to be like, I will be the best of work because I believe that I will figure out how to do this more efficiently.
And I will, you know, I will, I will get better and I'll have callous on my hands and I'll have a better back and whatever.
But I will do this well.
And I think.
You can find joy in work if you decide to do it.
So, on one hand, if you are, if you, if your dream causes you so much pain,
then you will quit what you're doing and do it.
And if it doesn't cause you enough pain that you're not pursuing it or that you don't,
like if you don't feel like you're in a cage right now, then maybe you're not in a cage.
And maybe you just need to like the life you have.
And that's cool too.
But do you have the guts to fail?
Here's my second point about failure.
If you don't fail, you're not even trying.
I'll say it again.
If you don't fail, you're not even trying.
My wife told me this great expression.
To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.
Les Browns, a motivational speaker, he made an analogy about this.
He says, imagine you're on your deathbed, and standing around your deathbed are the ghosts
representing your unfulfilled potential.
The ghost of the ideas you never acted on.
the ghost of the talents you didn't use.
And they're standing around your bed, angry, disappointed, and upset.
They say, we came to you because you could have brought us to life, they say.
And now we have to go to the grave together.
So I ask you today, how many ghosts are going to be around your bed when your time comes?
I was not always this strong guy, you see.
I went through a lot of hard times in my life to get here today.
All I wanted to be was an uncommon man.
In my whole life, I was not that, much worse than that.
I know what it takes to be a combat soldier,
and I used to look for courage.
I thought courage was a man who won the Medal of Honor.
It is.
But courage is a man who's willing to put those boots on every single day of his life
to go out there and fight for this country
where nobody even knows what the hell they're doing or where the hell they're at.
There is something poetic about a 39-year-old man winning new artist of the year.
I don't know where you're at in your life or what you're going through,
but I want to tell you to keep going, baby.
I want to tell you success is on the other side of it.
I want to tell you it's going to be okay.
I want to tell you that the wind-sailed is bigger than the rim.
If you want to be great, oh, man, prepare to get up off that mat.
You're going to get knocked down over and over and over.
and even when you feel like, no, I can't be hit this hard.
Or if you're down there thinking, it's no way I can get up from this.
That's when you're just starting.
You cannot change your life unless you change something.
If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.
At some point, everything's going to go south on you.
Everything's going to go south.
And you're going to say, this is it.
This is how I end.
Now you can either accept that
or you can get to work.
That's all it is.
You just begin.
And you are either going to evolve or expire.
You are either dying or you are either living.
Stop depending on other people.
Stop waiting for someone to change your life.
You have to change your life.
When I haven't worked this hard to not do what I truly want.
Like I haven't got this far by being someone else.
I've got this far by being true to myself.
You've got your own damn malevolence and ignorance, right?
All coming at you.
Plus the incredible, complicated, indeterminate potential of the future.
That's all coming at you.
And it's all your responsibility.
And you can cringe away from it and be afraid of it and be victimized by it
and be bitter and cynical about it.
And no wonder, because it can be painful.
Or you can turn around and you can say, man, bring it on.
The 10 words that will ruin your life
are what will other people say and what will other people think.
So whoever you are, wherever you are, do you.
One of the most important potence to anything that you want out of success is discipline.
That means no excuses.
That means no land around.
That means, all of this I can or I cannot do or I won't do or I don't know how to do it.
We're going to show you how to figure it out.
But it starts with you.
Discipline.
Discipline yourself.
Stop making excuses.
Stop saying, I don't like to get up in the morning.
At least you got up.
Stop saying what you can't do
and start doing the right things
to get what you need to do right.
That means get up and focus on what's going to make you
a better individual all across the board.
It's not going to work unless I change.
And nothing changes in my life until I change.
How can you ever change yourself?
You think that you're a Gandhi,
but how can you be a Gandhi?
if you won't like look at yourself and change yourself, right?
The only way you can become good
or kind of overcome some of these qualities
is by looking at it, seeing the reality,
and then confronting it and then trying to change it.
Who the hell are you?
You know, you think you're a miracle of some bloody bizarre sort.
We've been around for three and a half billion years, you know?
Every single one of your relatives propagated successfully.
And here you are against all possible.
odds in this in this world of hell in some sense and and and bitterness and and tyranny and
malevolence and yet god only knows what's inside you this capacity for consciousness the capacity
to confront potential and to turn it into something good you know better but you're not doing
better for you to decide here's limitations but i'm so used to doing wrong and being dysfunctional
I know better, but I don't want to do better.
Without that work ethic, you know, greatness cannot be achieved.
You know, anytime I hit a big shot, I mean, you know,
everyone would be so surprised and just like, wow,
I would be surprised if I didn't make it.
You know, I put the work into this, like, every day, all day.
And then when I'm done with it, guess what I do?
Guess what I do? I dream about it. I visualize it. I see myself being successful.
And then I'll do it again. There's a million excuses I could make to rationalize not getting up early,
doing the ice bath and going for a run. But there comes a time when all these potential excuses
turn into fuel that motivates you to keep going. When I wake up in the morning and I look out the window and see that it's a lot of
pouring rain I don't question if I'll be out there running I just get excited at the fact
that I'll be out there and I wonder what it's going to feel like to face that
discomfort and overcome it some people are gonna call you a loser some people are
gonna make fun of you for failing some people are going to count you out call you weak
say you will never amount to anything, what you're going to do?
Are you going to prove them right?
Or are you going to prove them wrong?
See how good we could make things.
And maybe that would be the purpose of your damn life, right?
So I learned because I looked at dark things,
that I learned that the light was more powerful than the darkness
as far as that I was concerned and that people were capable,
each of us of remarkable things,
and that we need to know that that's what we are.
where this consciousness that confronts potential with all its catastrophe, that's what we are.
Success isn't about greatness. It's about consistency. No one's born great. Greatness is something
that is earned through consistency. If you show up day after day and work hard, if you give your
full effort, if you leave nothing on the table, then greatness and success will come.
What it really comes down to is people just don't want it bad enough.
Because I've seen countless examples of people that will say they don't have time,
that say they don't know how, but when something becomes important enough for them,
they figure it out.
One of the things you have to understand about life is everything changes and everything ends.
And that kind of sounds heavy on the front end, but it's a truth.
If everything changes and everything ends, number one, it should make you appreciate what you have right now.
And then my view is what's next is always better.
I want to be up than anybody in the world wants me to be down
And it's all about what like I said before self-belief
My whole success is from belief
Something I can feel but not actually see
