Yeah, nothing changes, nothing changes, man.
You know, we'll sit around forever wondering, well, what if I, you know, what if I was a dog catcher?
Would I be the best?
What if I was a, you know?
Every day we change the world.
But to change the world in a way that means anything, that takes more time than most people have.
It never happened.
all at once. It's slow. It's methodical. It's exhausting. We don't all have the stomach for it.
What if it's a mistake? It's a mistake. Rest assured. What do you know? You're going to stumble around,
right? And what's going to happen is this. You're going to move to, you're going to not stay in
stasis. You're not going to wander around in circles. And I see people like that. They said,
well, I never knew what to do, and now I'm 40. It's like, that's not so good. That's not so
good. And you might say, well, and there is a literature too that suggests that people are a lot more
unhappy when they look back in their lives about the things they didn't do than they are about
the mistakes they made while they were doing things. It's how they get you to give up. They say it's not
that simple, then he. So what's the truth? That it is. I want people to understand that they're not
alone, that there are other people feeling exactly the way they're feeling, that their behavior
is not insane, that they have a disease, and it's not their fault.
There's a very famous kind of line that people don't change.
I happen to know that people do change, and I see that every day.
I see people getting better.
I see the lights in their eyes come on.
There's a million excuses I could make to rationalize not getting up early.
doing the ice bath and going for a run.
There comes a time when all these potential excuses
turn into fuel that motivates you to keep going.
You got to get out there.
You got to give it everything you got,
whether it's your time, your talent, your prayers,
or your treasures.
Because remember this,
you will never see a U-Haul behind a hearse.
If you want to know something about yourself, sit on your bed one night and say,
what's one thing I'm doing wrong, that I know I'm doing wrong,
that I could fix, that I would fix.
You meditate on that, you'll get an answer.
And it won't be one you want, but it'll be the necessary one.
It's the whole issue.
People have a feeling that they can change, but they have no effort.
They don't want to get into game because they feel it's, you know,
it's just too much time.
It doesn't work, and I tried it, and it didn't.
work and then they give up and then life just goes on it's seamless you you don't see it it's just the way
you've been living my older brother who was 12 got into an electrical accident and he died in my arms
and really come to terms with that i was the one who got to live that this life that we live it's a privilege
And when I really started to take that in,
I felt this tremendous urge to do something with my life,
to do something that mattered.
At some point, everything's gonna go south on you.
Everything's gonna go south, and you're gonna say,
this is it.
This is how I end.
Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work.
You can't stop.
You can't quit.
You can't say, I'm a failure.
You're not a failure.
You're not.
You're a wonderful, strong, intelligent youngster.
Take advantage of that.
Trust in God.
Trust in yourself.
Until you say, yeah, I'm going to, you know what, I'm going to take action.
Nothing changes if nothing changes, man.
And I'm not preaching at you.
I'm just, uh,
I just want to remind you because I've spent a lot of time in my life sitting around wanting things to change
and not being able to make them change and not thinking I could.
And I wish somebody had told me that earlier sometimes.
In order for something to change, there needs to be change.
You cannot stand still because the world moves away from you if you stand still.
And there's no stasis.
There's only backwards.
And so if you're not moving forwards, then you're moving backwards.
How much harder will you work in this off season now to get back to the championship?
I push myself too exhaustion.
Probably we thank you for your time, bro.
I just, I feel like we sort of focus on right ways and wrong ways too much.
And I think it's, in a sense, sort of scary to just be born and live life.
And I understand the idea of kind of grasping onto a particular thought
of wanting to kind of feel like you somehow have a handle on the unknown.
But you know what, the unknown is the unknown.
Every time you have changed, you have changed, you have to kind of feel like you somehow have a handle on the unknown.
you feel pain.
You stepped out of one relationship to another and you feel pain.
You leave one neighborhood to another and you feel pain.
You go from one job to another and you feel the fire of transition.
See change as growth.
See change as transformation.
See change as evolution.
See change as necessary.
See change as critical.
critical. See change as inevitable. Do something. Stop being scared if you have not jumped on the
bandwagon of doing exactly what the fuck you want to do, which is skiing for the next three years
or working at a job that's not what your parents want or what society wants. Do something. Stop being
scared. And so enough. Enough parents. The kid that's sitting right now in a desk and saw this in
the feed and you hate your fucking job. Enough. Stand up. Get the fucking scared.
out of here and do you live your life? You've got one life.
If you're not willing to be a fool, then you'll never start anything new. And if you never
start anything new, then you won't develop. And so the willingness to be a fool is the precursor
to transformation. And that's the same as humility. And so if you're going to write your destiny,
you can do a bad first job. You're going to get smarter as you move forward.
When you can learn to do things when you don't want to, when you don't feel like it,
When you're hired, when you can learn to push yourself to do them, that's when the world opens up to you.
That's when success knocks at your door.
There will never come a time when you can just happily coast through life.
It's hard to stay governed by anxiety.
It's hard to be inconsistent.
It's hard not to have daily disciplines.
It's hard not to believe in yourself.
It's hard to be broke.
It's hard to be poor.
It's hard.
It's all hard.
So choose your heart.
What I am telling you to do is chase after that version of yourself that you know you could be.
What happens when I decide for myself that I'm going to do something different?
You've got the gift of life.
You have the privilege of being here.
But playing small, you were meant to do great things.
Nothing changes if nothing changes, man.
And let the mind people.
The difference is how do you look at it?
How do you approach it?
How do you deal with it?
How do you admit it and see it for what it is?
And then what do you do about it?
You cry about it, you mope about it, you drink about it,
you sleep around about it, you get mad and getting fights about it.
You just hang around.
Just turn the world out.
Just zombie about it.
You fry yourself a marijuana about it.
You say, Dwayne, I'm sad.
Dude, that's a part of life.
Do you think you're the only man on this planet?
That's sad?
Say, Dwayne, I'm going through depression.
Well, welcome to the world.
Welcome to the rest of us.
If you look at the stats around suicidality in the UK,
the thing that's most likely to kill someone
between the age of like 18 and 40 years themselves for a man.
Do we really not know what it is to be a good man?
And I would go so far as to say to be a good human being, right?
Because take responsibility for what you're doing.
Take ownership of your world.
Take ownership of your life.
Go try and accomplish something that's hard.
You may win.
You may lose.
You may succeed.
You may fail.
I'll tell you what.
You'll be better.
If you avoid those things that are hard, if you don't accept that challenge,
if you don't step up and step into that cold water,
and you sit on your couch and eat Doritos,
I can tell you this is not a good move.
This is not a good move.
Don't do that.
Don't do that.
Just get up.
Move towards that challenge, whatever that challenge is.
Move towards that challenge and go attack it.
It's wake up!
Stop sleeping on yourself.
Step into your authenticity.
Step into your intelligence and your brilliance.
Release your gift.
God has given you something.
something great, release it into the earth. Whatever that goal is, whatever that insurmountable
feat has been, whether it's weight loss, financial, mindset, relational. I don't care what it is,
career, to be a CEO or an investor, whatever it is, get it done. This is not the year you sleep
in yourself. There's nothing going to stop me. If you didn't make me, you can't break me. If you
didn't make the sun come up, you can't stop me. If you didn't make the moonshine at night,
you can't stop me. My purpose, my will, my dedication.
my motivation is all about doing the business because guess what ladies and gentlemen that's what
i'm about that business i'm about that life what are you about me up stop crying my teacher
don't like you why maybe you disrespectful why don't don't say she don't like you go look in the
mirror and take full ownership why does she not like me you're watching lebron make his dreams
become a reality you're watching the black mongo make his dreams become right if you put the same
time LeBron put in and I started studying and I realized as an African American male, I needed
to get a master's degree in a PhD in order to do what I'm doing. And guess what? I had to get up
even though it was hard and I had to take ownership of my life, take ownership of my time, take ownership
of my day. Change happens when the pain of staying the same becomes great to them the pain of making a
change. Like if you are angry, use it. If you are sad, use it. You're
like, what else you're going to do with it?
Like, you might as well let it help you.
Like, or it uses you.
There's a moment when every boy realizes no one's coming to save him.
And that's when he becomes a man.
And some boys never get there and stay children forever.
No one's effing coming to save you.
No one's going to make you better at your business.
No one is going to get you to be a better persuader of people or framer of people other than you.
There's a lot of grown men and women that are still boys and girls because they think someone else is coming to change their life.
The only thing that's valuable guys is how you see yourself in the mirror.
How do you look at your shadow of light?
And are you happy walking next to it?
No one's coming.
No one's coming, everyone.
No one.
Nobody is coming to take responsibility for your dreams.
Nobody is coming and going to get that project done.
that you've been thinking about doing.
No one is coming to grow your business,
to heal your pain,
to improve your marriage,
or to make more money for you.
It is up to you.
It is always been up to you.
Your life is your responsibility.
So what?
You slip up.
You fall down.
Big deal.
That doesn't mean you stop.
Do you give up or do you keep going?
No one else forgives you,
learn to forgive.
yourself hold yourself up when everybody else says no you say yes it's time to take ownership
you want your clothes watch mama make the boy wash his clothes teach him out to separate the
colors from the white mama let your boy cook teach him out of cook let him take ownership make him go
grocery shopping he said well he'll not a cook like me give him at least a day then
give him two days take ownership
ship, teach him how to change the oil, make him put gas in the car, on the ship.
I love my daughter the light, but when we go, when we go to the gas station, my baby girl get out, my baby girl, get out and pump the gas.
Somebody said, why you make your, why you make your queen to be, why you make her, why you make her pump gas?
Because I need to teach her one day, I might die on this plane, and she need to know how to put the gas in the car.
And I was thinking about all the things you got from your time in the seals, and it's almost a bit of like a microcosm of what I think
think a lot of men are looking for, you know, that sense of purpose, that brotherhood.
And they find it these days in like video games and stuff, right?
Which are, video games, I've got no, you know, I cost no judgment on people that
play video games.
I've played video games my whole life.
But it seems like there's a reason we're getting, like, increasingly addicted to
these video games, because they're giving us something that we're searching for in real
life and not getting.
You use the words brotherhood, purpose.
These are things that the seals clearly have in huge amounts.
Is there anything else that you add to that list of what it takes to feel fulfilled?
Yeah, Jiu-Jitsu.
It almost says become a joke amongst me, my friends, people that listen to me,
is you've got some kind of a problem in the world, you got some kind of problem in your life,
go train J-J-Jitsu.
There's a reason why I say that.
Because the things that you just mentioned, discipline.
Guess what you need to go train J-J-J-Jitsu when you're tired and you don't feel like it?
Discipline.
Guess how you feel when you're done?
You feel awesome.
You get a bunch of dopamine.
Guess who you're there with?
a bunch of dudes that you can relate to.
And guess what you're going to do together?
You're going to struggle.
You're going to go through some hardship together.
You're going to sweat.
You're going to choke.
You're going to get your arm broken.
Like, these things are going to happen.
Not going to get your arm broken, but you may.
But you're going to be with a little brotherhood.
And by the way, women change Jiu-Jitsu.
my daughter's all trained Jiu-Jitsu.
It's all good.
It's all good.
So, yeah, jiu-jitsu is one way.
Now, look, could you go to the rock climbing gym?
Yes, you could.
Could you go to the cross-fit gym?
Yes, you could.
Could you go to the soccer field, football field, whatever?
Yeah, you can do that stuff.
So, yeah, go do that stuff.
Go do that stuff.
That's shared suffering together with a group on a regular basis,
whether you want to or not.
that's some
those are all little components
of being in the military
being in the SEAL teams
that's what it is
that's what you're doing
what does the SEAL platoon do
they train to get ready for go to war
how do they do that they go to the desert
they carry their guns they run through
little choreographed moves
they get hot they carry weight
it's suffering it's just shared suffering
and they're working together and they're learning skills
that's what you're doing in a jitzy gym
that you're doing on the soccer field
So go out and do those things with other human beings,
and it's going to make things better for sure.
Let's shoot me very closely.
Make these boys grow up.
Fellas, take ownership.
Don't you ever say you don't have something
because of what somebody's doing.
So I need you take ownership of your time, of your what?
Of your mind, of your what?
Wow, come on, y'all, come on, y'all, y'all playing.
I used to get so mad at Jalen.
Jalen would get up.
I knew it was football day because he'd get up 6 o'clock in the morning.
His uniform was ready.
His shoes was ready and he would eat breakfast.
I'm like, what's going on?
He's like, game day.
Friday night lights, game day.
And I would be so upset.
And he's like, why are you hating on me?
You hating on me, Dad?
Like, you can't stand.
I'm going to be a football player.
I'm going to Lee.
You hate on me.
I said, I'm not hating on you.
But what I hate is that the energy for school
and the energy for life,
you don't have the same energy for that
that you got for football and girls.
All I'm asking for is the same energy
you put in sports.
I'm asking for the same thing in terms of your mind.
