rogers joining you guys obviously on location at the senior bowl as you can see behind us
beautiful hancock we were at the field we could have just booked a hotel like literally anywhere
and been like no we're at the Senior Bowl here for the show.
We're doing it together.
It could have been a random hotel room in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
But hello, I'm Trevor Sycamore.
This is Connor Rogers joining you guys for the Senior Bowl midweek wrap-up.
We have two practices in the books, and what you and I are going to do here,
since the third practice is normally a little bit lighter anyways. Two days practice in the books correct yeah you're right you're right you're
right thank you for clarifying that so we've got the first two days of practice in the books the
third practice like I said a little bit lighter so this is kind of a time for us to really begin
our assessments and what we're going to do here on this show is we are going to give you guys the
risers and followers from every single position at the senior bowl now we're not going to break down every single player but of the positions we're
going to be able to highlight a lot of guys have been standing out and also maybe disappointing a
little bit yeah i mean it's been obviously a lot of highlights and a lot of different guys dropped
out before the game so it's kind of changed our attention towards other players and uh this will
be just you know everything we've seen in two days.
And you and I have been on the field and trying our best to split up watching groups.
So we're not watching the same exact plays because it's a lot of ground to cover.
Of course, the film comes out and you can get into the film and catch up on literally everything.
But I think it's best for this show that you and I have tried our best to differentiate what we've seen.
So, I mean, we could just honestly jump right into it.
Yeah, and this is a really, really good roster, man.
It is.
We talked about that over the last couple of weeks, how excited we were for this event.
And, you know, even though we didn't do an official Senior Bowl preview,
we're hoping that this can be more than what we meet.
We would have talked about Graham Barton and Troy Fontenot.
That's very true.
Honestly, I feel like 40% of that show would have been players that had to drop out because of injury.
That's very true.
Yeah, you guys are welcome, honestly.
We didn't screw up for once.
We didn't screw up for once.
Speaking of screwing up.
It took us an hour to try to record in here.
I thought when we were filming together it was supposed to be easier.
Right.
That's the whole point.
That's the point of it.
So hopefully there's no echo.
Hopefully you guys are enjoying a smooth audio performance.
Quarterbacks.
Let's talk about quarterbacks here.
Easy place to start.
So one quarterback team, because obviously there are seven quarterbacks here,
three on one team, four on the other.
One team very clearly better than the
other two days into practice and that is the national roster which has sam hartman has michael
pennix jr and has bonex um i assume that's something that you're going to talk about from
the positive standpoint has to do with one of those guys am i correct yeah and i think right
when you start there to talk about the difference i mean you have pennix and nicks
could very well go in the first round of this draft and there hasn't been anything here to
sway away from that opinion um i don't think through two days they've been dropping back
and uncorking the ball 40 yards down the field consistently just the flow of practice hasn't
really put them in position to do that right right and sam hartman's the third quarterback
on that team you know a little bit of a different player than them not the same arm strength but a guy that knows how to manage things
and you know has even run a little bit we were laughing at that interaction with peyton wilson
yeah yes um there was a confirmed that sam there was there was a funny little play that happened
on the first day of practice where um good coverage it was an 11 on 11 play sam scrambles
out to his right and he's running up the sideline.
And Peyton Wilson from NC State is tracking him,
and Sam kind of beats him to the angle to beat him up the sideline.
And mid-play, mid-play, Sam Hartman sees that it's Peyton Wilson
who is running at him, taps him on the helmet because he knows he's got to beat.
Peyton's not going to take him down.
He taps him on the helmet.
He says, just like old times, huh, bud?
Full speed.
And it goes back to, I asked Sam about about this and he confirmed that is what he said but um goes back to the acc
days when sam hartman was at wake forest and payton wilson uh longtime nc state linebacker so
they're they're obviously having a lot of fun out there but i do agree with you i think that it's
different watching each one of these quarterbacks and this group has been uh i think a really good
barometer type of group where you look at Michael Penix.
And to me, he very clearly has the most power for him here.
When he has been firing, you mentioned, okay, he's not uncorking it, you know, 60 yards down the field.
But even those quick in-breaking routes or things over the middle or driving balls to the sideline for these out routes, like Penix can put these passes on a rope.
And it's very clear that he has NFL caliber arm strength I think Bo Nix has been really accurate not that he's been perfect but
the ball placement again the tight spiral how he's been able to throw the ball at a lot of
different arm angles to me that's been very impressive and then when you look at Sam Hartman
I think that Hartman has been fine this week and he is somebody who I think is playing well but
when you put him next to these two guys it's very clear he does not have the arm strength that Michael Penix does.
And I don't think that he has that pinpoint accuracy with velocity the way that Bo Nix does.
So I don't want to say that Hartman's a faller, because honestly, Hartman might have been the best quarterback in the league.
I agree.
But that's a good part of this Senior Bowl is you get to see these guys kind of next to each other.
And that was my assessment of the three that we had there.
And maybe that was some of the thinking when putting these rosters together,
that Hartman had the best chance to keep up with Penix and Nix
more than the guys in the other roster.
Just put Joe Milton on there and just have him uncork it.
I think Penix has had the best throw I've seen this week.
On Wednesday, he threw a deep
out to Devontae's Walker, who
finally someone beat Quinion Mitchell.
Finally. Nobody here has been able...
We'll talk a lot about Quinion Mitchell. This probably isn't the place
for that. But
Walker finally
got the best of him, and
he dropped the ball. It hit him right in the hands,
and Mitchell played through the rep.
But that was, you know, that's the difference you see here,
standing on the sidelines, is the velocity and the timing with Penix
and Nix, to be fair to him.
You know, and Nix, I think you nailed this.
Some of the best plays he's made has been improvising to manipulate the pocket
and then make a simpler throw.
But how he got to make that simpler throw is what stands out with pennix it's the fact that he's going to challenge every area
of the field at an event that they've never thrown to these guys they've never worked with these
coaches we're in the end of day two here the time you do see issues with the timing of wide receivers
or the flow of practice and things like that. But you can really evaluate physically where these guys are at.
I'm just looking at their measurements right now.
Michael Penix over 33 inch arms.
He almost said 34 inch arms.
That is just, I mean, it kind of goes into that unorthodox style that he has where he
looks like he's got this longer release.
It's because his arms are really long when you put him next to Bo Nix and Sam Hartman,
they're just over 30 inch arm length. So that's a,
a,
a much bigger wingspan and a much more bigger arm length there for Michael
Penix.
With D line hands,
Michael Penix.
Yeah.
What were his hands?
Over 10 inches,
right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's 10 and three eights,
I believe.
Yeah.
There's going to be no Joe Burrow comparisons there with Michael Penix
Jr.
Is there somebody that you would dub like the biggest winner from that
group? I
still think it's, I still think it's Knicks just because of how accurate I feel like he has been.
He's been the one who's been taking the reps with the ones. He's always the first quarterback out
there. And I think he's handled things really, really well. So even though he hasn't like
uncorked it for these incredible highlight plays, I think he is having a really good week. And to me, he is not doing anything to take away
from first round caliber status. So I feel like Knicks, not that it's a runaway, is probably one
of the biggest winners, if not the biggest winner so far from that quarterback position.
My takeaway after two days, this has just not been a quarterback event this year. And that's
talking about all seven of them, they they just they're when you look
at the drills and stuff they're not really asked to push the ball a lot i think the offensive lines
have been overwhelmed quite a bit where there's a lot of pass plays that are breaking down uh but i
think the takeaway is and this isn't a winner to me but it's a takeaway that's just confirming what
we thought nicks and pennix are just in a different category by quite a few rounds than everyone else.
They're the fringe round one guys.
I haven't seen a round two guy in this group.
The only other one that has a shot to sniff round three
would be Michael Pratt,
and I wouldn't put him there right now either.
You don't think Spencer Allers got a chance
with everything that people were talking about him
going into the week?
I would never want to say not a chance,
but he wouldn't be a day two guy for me either.
I think some of the decision making, we want to say not a chance but he wouldn't be a day two guy for me either i think some of the decision making we saw that i think the nfl might think he's a day two guy he's a quarterback anything right i think he's pretty small and the decision making is
pretty questionable but obviously another guy that can really throw the ball yeah six foot flat is
what he came in at um we were kind of told that the nfl was higher
on spencer rattler you know jim nagy was talking about that before the week that um scouts and nfl
teams are a lot higher than on spencer rattler than nfl media is i wonder what that means though
i mean we haven't ranked spencer rattler yeah but i think it's just because i think people look at
spencer and his time in oklahoma the q1 documentary, and they just think that he is this
hothead that only could produce for a Lincoln-Riley system. Because let's face it,
even though I think Spencer has matured in a lot of ways, even with just his on-field performance,
and I know some people in the South Carolina football program who really like Spencer Rattler
since he got in that building, and so I think that means a lot as well.
The stats have not been there. It's not like he's lit the world on fire over the last two years. So I think that people just kind of look at the lower stats since he's been in South Carolina.
They think about where he's coming from, and they just believe he's a complete afterthought. And I
don't believe the NFL is there. I really believe that Spencer Rattler is going to be a mid-round
pick, whether it's a third round at the end of day two or a fourth round right at the beginning of day three.
That's where I think he's going to end up.
I think that makes a lot of sense.
You want to talk about the players that are in charge of protecting these guys?
Sure, yeah. Let's get to it.
This is a pretty good group right here,
and it's obviously highlighted by Talisa Fuaga,
who is a projected top 15 pick.
So a lot of eyes have been on Fawaga in this group specifically.
But as anyone else, you know, because Fawaga's had his moments.
Jordan Morgan is in this group.
Kingsley Soma-Matea is another guy in this group.
Jackson Powers-Johnson, I feel like, has gotten a lot of hype as well,
being an interior player that is just 334 pounds for a center
is not common in this area.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, before we do offensive linemen, I just wanted to say, like,
I think Michael Pratt's been all right.
You know, I think that he has been able to have some nice touch passes.
I don't think he's lit the world on fire.
Joe Milton, the accuracy's just not there for Milton.
So I just wanted to make sure, because I feel like people would have hit us up
and been like, oh, like, what about the other quarterback?
So just wanted to make sure that I touched on those guys.
But, yeah, I mean, I'm looking at and so you want to start with the national roster is that what you're looking at are you looking at we can talk about
the entire offensive line as well i mean we've had a lot of eyes on that so i would say the interior
offensive line guys have really stood out for me i think jackson powers johnson you mentioned him
showing up at 335 pounds as a center is i mean that is that is nfl type work and he's
got a little bit of that fire hydrant build he's got the short arms and he's just like really thick
in the chest and and the midsection but he is so powerful he's so patient he has great hand usage i
mean he went into this event vying for offensive tackle, or sorry, interior offensive line one.
Was he going to be that first interior offensive lineman taken?
I think it was a battle, you know, him, Zach Frazier.
He's recovering.
He's not doing drills, but the center from West Virginia,
Troy Fontenot, who we thought we were going to see at this event from Washington,
he ends up dropping out.
And I think, I don't know exactly why Fontenot dropped I mean it could be
injury related it was a long season long season for Washington but him not playing in this event
no question about it has opened the door for a lot of momentum to go to Jackson Powers Johnson's
way and to me when you talk about risers he is the biggest one to me not because he was thought
of as an afterthought and now has jumped up a lot in that regard but i
think he's a lock for the first round now wow i i do i think he is a lock for the first round i
think somebody is going to take him because you you look at him and go oh who's going to take a
center that high it's not just him being a center he's got reps guard dominated he's got reps center
dominated i just think that the nfl is getting a in-person look at what this dude is. And I truly
think that he is going to be a first rounder. There's no more, oh, let's hope we can get a
really good center prospect like him in the second round. You can just kiss that dream goodbye,
I think. And to be fair, it's funny. Sometimes we react, oh, a center that early. But it's really
not that off the board, right? I mean, you had Linderbaum go 25th overall in 2022 you look at uh 2020
cesar ruiz went 24th 2019 garrett bradbury went 18th so i mean that's not even that long ago yeah
if a guy's that well liked and that good they go yeah dude i i think i i think i'd take him over
all of them i he the most similar callback i think would be frank ragnow at 20
ragnow was a big center right really big center that would make sense yeah so and he went 20th
and he was a guy that i would say this time of year during his draft process nobody cared about
him and then he ended up going 20th i want to talk about an offensive lineman in a similar way
that is i he's just you could write him in the first round and ink in my opinion, that's Tyler Guyton. Oh, so you think it's ink? I really do. I, the way guys are looking at him,
you know, I heard a conversation today that was, that was really interesting. You know,
when you're standing and watching the one-on-ones and everybody's just talking about all the players
and it was put to me that you look at him, he has everything that you could ask for that you can't
teach the length, the feet, the athleticism, the build, and the demeanor.
I know his demeanor is really well-liked.
We've seen him practice highly competitive.
Super competitive, dude.
And everything that he needs to work on is simply technique.
And he has not played a ton.
He comes from Oklahoma.
I think a team is going to look at him and go,
yeah, we'll coach this guy up because we know we're getting the buy-in.
We're getting all of the physical ability in the world.
You put up Tyler Guyton against almost any offensive tackle in this class, physical ability, the build and everything.
Oh, he's the best.
It's right there.
Yeah.
I mean, it's right there with all Fashanu.
But the technique is, I mean, he's athleeting out there.
You watch some of the refs, even that he wins, you're like, oh, man, he's just trying to figure it out.
But I really think a team is going to look at him and go, there's too much talent there.
We have to take him in round one because if he fell out of round one, he'd be the first
player gone on day two.
Yeah, I don't even think he's right up there with Alt and Fashanu.
I think he's better as an athlete.
You know, this is somebody who played basketball in high school.
He was a defensive end in high school as well.
Actually started his career, believe at at um at tight
end before he moved over to offensive tackle and so it's like he's only been a one-year starter
at oklahoma at offensive tackle and when the thing that you love the most about him no question about
it is that competitive nature and you and i when we went through the offensive tackle episode i
think i had him you know offensive tackle seven or eight but my scouting report read very similar
to yours and honestly very similar to yours
and honestly very similar to what we are seeing from him out on the field.
He is a better mover than everyone else.
He is just still really raw in his technique.
I mentioned on that show he's more of a pusher than he is a blocker.
And you see that in even his best reps that people would say he won here
at the Senior Bowl.
The arms are a little too wide.
The hands get a little too wide. All over the the place he's pushing more than he is like locking
guys up but what what makes me agree with you that he is one of the biggest risers and somebody
that i think is is certainly a high percentage for the first round at this point is he's competitive
as hell he's so he's into it with teammates he's into it after the rep it's awesome
so i said this on twitter he he knew that chris braswell was one of the highest rated edge rushers
that he was going to have the chance to go up against in practice and you actually mentioned
this to me first because i wasn't over on the o-line d-line side for this portion of portion
of practice when he was doing the one-on-ones you said that he was about to get
lined up against braswell and they they the horn went off yeah the drill was over and he was pissed
he he the sigh the hands go off like he was ready he was ready and i'm like yep so later in the day
he did get a chance to go up against braswell and he noticed it and he actually before the rep he
put out his hand to braswell almost like say like hey high
five like basically heavyweights in the arena war yeah and braswell you know tried to get into his
chest and he did but um guyton was able to stop him and slow him down so you would say that guyton
won that rep and he went up and you know he tapped raswell on the head again basically like hey man
like good battle and i feel like he even beyond that rep there was another one that he won where
he was absolutely able to just throw somebody to the ground.
I couldn't remember who it was, but O-line coach puts his hand out.
He's like, hey, good job, good job.
Oh, they love him.
And Guyton just basically puts his whole body into it, high-fives the shit out of him.
And he's just like, let's go.
And it's those little things where when – because here's the thing, guys.
We talk a lot on this podcast and with scouting about what guys can do developmental players but the most important part of being developmental
is being coachable and having the desire to want to get better there's so many in there are so
many examples throughout scouting history and nfl draft history of guys who had a ton of potential
and just don't work out and we talk about those you know bust players or swings and misses whatever a lot of times it comes down to is this player hyper
competitive do they have the work ethic to get better in the ways that you were saying that they
need to get better and i think guyton does and so i agree with you there we spend a lot of time on
him i want to shout out a couple other interior offensive linemen christian haynes from yukon who
has been a top 100 player on the
PFF big board for the entire season I mean he's going to be a top 60 player the way that he is
playing this week two-year starter at UConn really good pass blocking grades over the last couple of
years smooth mover explosive out of his stance I knew that he could move I knew that he could
be a good zone blocking player because of his movement and his finesse
skills. Obviously, that translates to pass protection as well, but I wasn't sure how he
would hold up against power here at the Senior Bowl. He absolutely is. They've got him at center.
They've got him at guard. He's more natural at guard because he's played it more, but he has been
one of the best overall offensive linemen here at this event, and I think it's going to spell out
a top 60 pick. I think that he is going to be a second round lock type of a player and then the other one
Kansas offensive lineman Dominic Poonie I think over the last couple of days especially here on
day two played really really well they've been giving him he's played tackle for Kansas but
they're giving him a lot of reps at guard and even at center they're testing out his versatility and
he had two big wins one at center one at guard today in the one-on-one spot.
So he is somebody who has the frame, the power, the size, 6'4", 323,
to be able to hold up at the NFL level.
And so those are two more guys that I wanted to shout out
because they are raising their stock in a big way.
Yeah, and I would even say a guy that is, we've laughed,
just the way he's been scrapping his bow limber out here.
Dude!
Scrapping. I mean, it's not always pretty, but he's been scrapping is Bo Limmer out here. Dude, scrapping.
I mean, it's not always pretty, but he gets the job done.
I'm not going to lie, man.
I didn't see it coming from Bo Limmer.
I watched his tape, and he was in and out of the lineup.
Okay, is he center?
Is he guard?
Like, they're moving him all over the place.
I'm like, man, guy can't find a home.
And it's more maybe because just the rest of the offensive line was bad around him.
They were moving him because he's actually, I agree with you, man.
He's playing really well.
And one last note from me on Haynes.
I mean, you talk about somebody coming down here from UConn,
facing off against these SEC players and everything like that.
He got into it with Jordan Jefferson today.
Jefferson actually ripped his helmet off.
But there's just no fear in this dude.
He's actually kind of setting the tone.
And to see that from an offensive lineman from UConn down here where he's not he doesn't have the greatest length he doesn't have this
dynamite build he's been playing next to Guyton and it is so funny watching them go to work
together because Guyton looks like if you built a tackle in a lab Haynes looks like a backyard
brawler and they are so in sync and the way they are feeding off each other the combo blocks and how they interact as
teammates and the battle that they bring during those drills it's i it's a long shot of happening
but i would love to see them play together at the next level because two days here and it's already
all clicking together yeah um texas offensive tackle christian jones as well ton of starts
under his belt uh he is also somebody who has really stood out here today
i thought that he was probably like maybe mid day three pick you know late day three pick just
because okay he's been in college for i think six years five or six years five year starter i mean
dude he's got 48 starts and it's like okay the experience is great but why are you still right
college right so i think that a lot of people just felt like yeah he was just
going to be average but he has been he has been really sound him and I think Javon Foster from
Missouri both of those guys two super experienced players that you went okay why are you not in the
NFL already are you athlete enough to play here and I think both of them showing a lot of experience
showing a lot of success and playing really well um Andrew Ram
from Oklahoma I'm a little disappointed with I mean when it when it's him and Blimmer switching
out at center it's very clear yeah Blimmer is having a lot more success than anybody that was
high on Ram I'm not saying obviously it's not a kiss of death or anything but I don't think he's
having the best week um Kingsley from from University of Florida uh Egacon, or I can't remember how you say his last name. I
should know this as a Gator. I really should. But he, I think, has been struggling this week as well.
I think that Tanner Bordellini has played well, but he was a little bit up and down. Like,
he had some reps that he lost, I think, on day two. So he's been a little bit of up and down.
But just to give people a little bit of both the rising and falling, those are a couple of guys that i was like eh not as not as impressed with them as i was some of
those other players and i feel like some of those guys that you just went through have had their
hands full considering the d-line they have to face it's been yeah nasty it's top heavy on one
side that it would be the national team they have lay out to latu they have michael hall uh he's
been good adiza isaac it's i, it's a war out with that group.
So Austin Booker, he had a couple moments.
He had a long arm against Ethan Driscoll today, the Marshall tackle.
The coach was just screaming the second he hit it.
He was so happy.
Dude, he also, in the 11-on-11 period, he had a swim move that was so clean.
He would have Goldberg speared whoever was the quarterback
because they had no idea that that was coming
because he won so, so quickly.
So you want to talk about D-line next?
I think we can jump right to D-line,
and then we'll obviously get to some wide receivers and DBs as well.
I mean, you got to start with the headliner here,
and that's Leatu Latu,
because it's just talk about somebody that cannot appreciate being out here more the
the energy how intuitive he is he's helping teammates and then when you get to the actual
on-field stuff i mean we were laughing a rep you taped and we were both standing right there
he tries to spin move it doesn't work at all and then his ability to counter he does things that
college pass rushers do not do they get to the the NFL and they are coached how to do it.
And it takes two to three years.
This guy, the polish in his counter game, because the pass rush toolbox is so deep.
It's jarring when you see it on a field here where there's just a lot of power guys or
a lot of athletes.
And this dude is just refined in a way that you don't see from a college pass rusher very
often.
Yeah, this is something that I hope I get to ask him because he's, dude, he's mobbed after every practice.
So I really haven't.
He's doing television half the time.
Right, so I haven't been able to talk to him.
But I really do wonder if having the game
almost be taken away from you
has been such a motivation for him
because he is truly a master of his craft.
You can tell he puts so many hours into this thing.
You mentioned how excited he is to be here.
He really is, man. I mean, I think you see that joy on his face he's consistently talking to his
coaches uh to the rest of his teammates getting those guys hyped up and then you mentioned it my
favorite rep from him has actually come here on day two where oh what offensive lineman was he
going up against uh i can't remember the utah offensive tackle um uh oh my gosh i can't remember the Utah offensive tackle um uh oh my gosh I can't remember his his last name I
gotta look it up but um oh look Lamea yes Lamea thank you thank you thank you I actually like him
I should I should know that name better but uh he was playing right tackle and Latu tries to hit a
spin move on him like you were saying and Lamea blocks the spin stays right in front of it really
just really patient hands good hands redirects him a little bit, even keeps him spinning, great feet.
And the O-linemen behind him, as they often do if their fellow O-linemen brothers win a one-on-one rep, they start cheering.
They're like, hell yeah, Lamea! sentence the second that latu gets face up with him again he puts out his hand immediately grabs
the jersey and put the fastest one-arm push pull you've ever seen and all of a sudden he yanks him
to the side and he's into the quarterback and the rest of the d-line then loses its mind and it's
that's the thing with latu is not only the pass rush moves the speed to counters yes it's just it's all insane it is it is so
natural and in a split second look his arm length they measured his arm length here at the senior
bowl it's 13th percentile for edge rushers we do and we told you guys in this podcast i had been
getting some information that it probably he was probably gonna have short arms and when he gets
the combine he's not gonna test like some of these other freak athletes.
I almost just don't care at all.
I have to care a little bit because it's an athlete's league.
In this class, too.
The dude better go top 20.
He's too good to not go top 20.
So he's been awesome.
Some other defensive linemen, Darius Robinson from Missouri,
just him standing next to his peers he is a different cat he's goliath he's huge he's strong he sets the edge
well and run defense or uh yeah and run defense drills and then when it comes to pass rush he may
not be as proficient as some of these other guys but he can explode like he's an athlete like he's
got juice and so a player that still
needs to develop he was playing interior defensive line his entire career until this past season when
he was an edge for the first time and so it really just sounds like a lot of nfl teams you could have
been a ton of buzz about him so for somebody who i mean i gotta i gotta raise him up in the pff
mock draft simulator because right now you're getting him in like the fourth round and i don't
think that's possible anymore like there's people are talking about first round buzz with him i'm
not on first round right but i think we are talking about a day two player probably second
rounder at this point for as highly as people are talking about him so i wanted to shout him out too
for sure we do want to get through players throughout this as well that have had you know
not the craziest two days and i think for me I've wanted to see a little bit more out of Chris Braswell so far I just a player with a serious power profile fringe round one kind of
guy I haven't seen that power translate out here against some of these higher end offensive linemen
and I you know I just personally expected him to run through a lot of the competition and maybe I
set my expectations too high but he was definitely I wouldn't call him a faller it's a little early for that but I think the uh it's been underwhelming
I would say yeah I mean it's an opportunity for him to to play really well and I just I agree with
you I don't think he has I don't think he's like seized this opportunity if you will uh Brandon
Dorlis from Oregon I think there have been a couple of nice reps from him but also like day
one was definitely a slow burn for him I agree he's been a little bit up and down so that's somebody who
I'm hoping finishes the uh finishes the week strong he weighed in at 272 now he's somebody
who I've talked about on this podcast you and I actually didn't have him on the edge rush episode
because we were waiting to put him in with the interior defense lineman but not at 272 like you
you got to get a lot closer to 290 if you're going to play
and and if he plays at 290 i'm okay with it but to me that's still that's still his best because
he's not an edge bender like like at 272 you're just a 3-4 defensive end that's pretty much what
you are and and if that's the case fine but that doesn't get drafted very high for him to get drafted as highly as
possible i think he would need to be more of an interior defensive lineman and kind of dedicate
himself to being more of a three tech and i thought he had success there during his tape at
oregon so um yeah he was somebody who i wanted to mention is a little up and down i've been
pleasantly surprised with michael hall jr from Ohio State, especially this day on Wednesday.
He wins with a lot of quickness. And if I'm going to be honest, this event is kind of tailor-made
for him. He's a one-on-one winner. You see that on his tape at Ohio State, but it is good that
he is winning, right? I mean, like if he wasn't, then I'd say, I'd be like, you're a fifth round
pick. And I don't think that's necessarily the case anymore.
He was showing a lot of heart.
He was somebody who was also really talking to his teammates,
really talking to his coaches.
And as a three technique pass rush gap,
one gap penetrating kind of a defensive lineman,
I think he's having a really good week.
I think too, with a player like that,
it's becoming easier to project him
where he's an interior situational pass rusher, but he could be a damn good one
when you watch him here. The ability to get off the ball, the ability to shoot gaps, arm over,
rip move. So I'm with you on that one. It's good to see him kind of come back to life. I know we
liked him over the summer and it felt like a quiet year for him compared to expectations.
And then you kind of have the opposite player, a dude that just, you know,
he transfers to Florida State this year, and he was dominant,
especially the second half of the season, Braden Fisk.
Holy shit, that dude's quick.
I mean, so he's a transfer from Western Michigan.
He just never stops.
No.
Every rep is a total dogfight.
He just is going 100 miles an hour.
He's somebody that's played a lot of college football,
so you see the refinement with the hands to stay off of blocks.
But the classic player that just goes 100 miles an hour,
and he was literally wearing out offensive linemen and drills.
Yeah, no, I agree with you.
His quickness is absolutely a calling card trait that I think could be
something that you lean on at the next level.
Tovandre Sweat I have also also been i don't want to say like
pleasantly surprised with but like he's been performing well like i i think that he has
played really well and his tape says it over the over the the last two years and you know i don't
know i i recently did his full write-up for the pff draft guide and the 2022 tape i can definitely
understand that even why even though the grades were high why people weren't super jazzed on him for the nfl level because he immediately popped up high
out of his stance did not really have a lot of hand usage just tried to be bigger than everybody
but uh in his 2023 tape a lot of good hand usage very very active hands different pass rush moves
yes and he just i feel like he was just much more conscious of how
to actually win in the little ways with the position now what i'm a little worried about
because i think the conditioning is also a little bit of a problem with devondre sweat
he chose to not weigh in here in mobile at the senior bowl texas has him listed at 362. How much bigger are you that you did not want to weigh in?
I mean, I got to think he's over 380.
We were five feet away from him.
As somebody that's doing this long enough,
you can kind of stare at someone and get within a 20-pound range.
I would guess he's 384.
Just guessing.
I don't have any inside info.
Good touch with the four.
You like that?
Good touch throwing the four in there.
That's a veteran move.
And you're right, Trevor.
It's crazy that he didn't weigh in, which says everything.
He looks gigantic, but he's still playing well.
He is.
Now, he's going to get tired on an NFL field.
Right, right.
I think he's a rotational dude.
He's an early down rotational nose but
that's important in this at this level yeah in this league yep so but he's got it he's got to
dial that in for the combine even if it's 370 at the combine and you're working your way down
do you saw in a suit whatever it is man you gotta weigh in at the combine yes unless he's just not
gonna go but he's gonna go so you know he he might actually his team
actually might be handling this very very well because you want to be bigger and heavier when
you're actually playing on the field at the senior bowl and then he's got three weeks to drop 20
pounds which for me and you dropping 20 pounds in three weeks would would not be i mean like we'd
have to go extreme uf UFC tactics to do that.
But for Tavondre Sweat, I mean, honestly,
you put this dude in a sauna once a day for three weeks,
he can get down to around 360, 365, and then you're lighter to run anyways.
So, I don't know, maybe he is.
He's figured out the system.
Somebody was telling me this the other day
that once you get weighed at the combine,
like, that's it.
Like, that's your weight forever.
I mean, like, teams don't.
Like a prize young.
Right.
Teams aren't going to recheck you.
They're not really going to update their websites
to show you, like, how much they weigh.
So, maybe Tav andre sweat is is
handling this uh exactly correctly uh anybody else from the d line before we uh for move on to a
different one i think that covers it up pretty well is that was definitely a deeper group i think
marshawn nealon is actually having a really good week the western michigan uh pass rusher super
long arms um i mean super long wingspan almost an 80 inch wingspan from marshawn neiland and he's somebody
who i think the the motor is always running hot you mentioned that with fisk i think that's the
case with neiland as well so i think that he is playing well gabe hall from baylor um i don't
know if he's standing out as much like with his actual play in the field but six foot five 290
pounds you and i mentioned it you stand next to this guy and he's a giant 84 inch wingspan I
mean that's insane he's just built extremely long for an interior defensive lineman and then the
last guy that I would shout out he's got a lot of fans and he has had a lot of fans for the last
couple of years he's been draft eligible but Tyler Davis the Clemson interior defensive lineman again
he's got really short arms he's not going to be a proficient pass rusher for you, but run defense drills, holding up on the line of scrimmage,
that's going to be his bread and butter.
And even though he's only 299 pounds and about 6'1.5", he is that type of rotational,
I'm going to do my job type of a player.
If you can't get Chris Jenkins in round two, that's where you go.
You go Tyler Davis a little bit later,
probably like round four-ish.
Like that's the type of player
that we're talking about here.
So I want to get some pass catchers in this group.
I do want to get the pass catchers,
but I do have to shout at our friends

All right, so pass catchers.
I think I want to start with Roman Wilson,
who's been a standout here for two days.
By standout, you mean absolutely uncoverable?
Nobody can cover him.
He is the only guy, and it was a one-on-one at the end of practice,
but he beat Quinion Mitchell and made a one-handed catch along the sideline.
You also have to give the context.
It was a competitive period, which means the coaches said,
Quinion, who do you want to face?
Yes.
And he pointed right at Roman Wilson, and he said, F that guy.
Flipped in the bird.
No, he didn't.
He didn't do that. He didn't do that. But it's great that he chose the guy that's had the best week here out of the wide receivers. Oh, you want to see and he said, F that guy. Flipped in the bird. No, he didn't. He didn't do that.
He didn't do that.
But it's great that he chose the guy that's had the best week here out of the wide receivers.
Oh, you want to see it?
No, no, no.
That's Mitchell in a nutshell.
Dude, coaches do that on purpose.
They want to see if you're going to be a coward, and you're not going to go after whoever the top guy is.
Who is it that you thought didn't know names?
Which is fair.
What do you mean?
I thought we were talking to somebody during competitive period.
They asked him, and he didn't know know names so he had to say like 20 from
i don't remember and i maybe i don't want to blow up a spot but it's uh i can't remember but i get
it yeah these people for the first time it's not that they're not competitive it's that they're
like i literally don't know his name i don't know what do you want from me so yeah rowan wilson had
a one-handed catch um that was awesome
panics through it was along the sideline it was against Quinn Mitchell Mitchell kind of stumbled
when he was getting into his back pedal and even Roman Wilson stumbled on the way to the
sideline but he's just slippery he's open all the time yeah a problem natural long speed there
has been a big problem here with drops and he's the one guy that I feel like is constantly catching
the ball drops have been a big thing it's been my biggest disappointment with davantez walker
because his strides eat up so much turf and then the ball gets there and you just flip a coin
you true you flip a coin i think i loved walker's tape i have come away from two days of practice
and be like man he does the hard thing he He gets open. He beats guys. This is a good cover group. He's up against good corners.
But the adjustments have been 50-50.
And some of them have just been right in his hands.
Dude, I even watched a couple of reps of Jacob Cowling at the beginning of the week
where he had a couple of drops where I'm like, man, you can't be dropping those.
They usually don't.
Yeah, and he's obviously a lot smaller.
Cowling weighed in at 5'8", 165 pounds.
So it's like, man, you you got to be reeling that in.
And I think the same thing with Tez Walker.
He's got a lot of people who are in his corner
as a potential first round wide receiver.
But wide receiver is a complex position
that can be boiled down to two things.
Get open, catch the football.
That's it.
It's those two things.
Now, there's a lot of different ways
in which you need to go through achieving those two things.
But those are your two jobs as a wide receiver. And so when you do not do
one of them well enough, that's 50% of your job. And especially, you know, if you can't get open,
sometimes you can do the other part, the really tough part of catching it. And you can still
survive in a league. But if you got too many drops, man, I mean, just coaches aren't going
to put up with you. So I'm not saying that it's doomsday for tez walker i obviously still like him a lot but i agree with you i thought that
um guy you know along those same lines i think i've been a little disappointed with malachi corley
but i it's hard for me to say that because i'm simply it's simply confirming some of the priors
that i had about him where yards after catch some some of those quicker routes, the slants, the digs, the quick inbreakers, things like
that, he can get open.
But it's those route running drills that he goes through where the footwork's not exactly
as clean as it needs to be and he's not as efficient as some of these other guys.
And that's what we really wanted to see if he was any better at than what we saw
at west kentucky because dude's rocked up i was standing next to the guy i was like dude it looks
like it hurts to run into you and you see that on his tape and so you like so much of the debo
comps and and i was i was talking with ben solak today about it and i know that we've talked about
it here on this podcast a lot of people look at players like malachi corley and they say debo samuel debo
samuel debo samuel debo samuel and sure he could be debo or he could be lavisca chanel very good
callback and yeah there's a lot more lavisca chanel's than there are debo samuels so it's just
not that you can't compare guys to rare players, unique players, but you got to understand that Debo is pretty much like a one-of-one.
You're not going to get like a Debo that comes out every now and then.
So, maybe it's just, and so that's just, I'm not saying that he can't be great.
It's just something that you have to think about with those guys as kind of we were watching them over the last couple of days i think a similar a guy in a similar mold not size wise because he's built
differently but maybe usage wise is xavier laguette who is another guy in my eyes that
well he came in at 6-1 which was a little bit of a jump scare because part of the laguette cell is
he's 6-3 or 6-4 so and he's. And then I think adjustments to the football have been hot and cold.
He's made some of my favorite catches here.
He's also had moments where you're shaking your head.
The ball's there.
You're supposed to be a big-bodied player.
This is supposed to be part of your game.
It's contested situations.
And I just think he's run really hot and cold in a group that I thought he was going to be that dude.
Yeah.
And I don't mean to say that Leggett's had a terrible week. I thought he was going to be that dude. Yeah. And I don't,
I don't mean to say that like Leggett's had a terrible week.
I don't think you're saying that either.
He,
I don't think he's been,
been terrible,
but it is kind of a little weird when you're known as a contested catch dude,
you come in two inches under what we thought you were going to be.
Your arms are shorter,
your hands are smaller,
and it just kind of all goes into,
okay,
the scouting report probably reads a little bit differently now that we see that your measurables are different now again like he's had some nice catches at the
sideline he's still winning with physicality at times but it's not as dominant as maybe we wanted
it to be a lot of people bring up you know a DK Metcalf comp when they talk about Xavier Leggett
and what he could be at the catch point and AJ Brown type of a thing and he might have that sort
of mentality or desire to be that kind of a receiver but he's not as big or
strong as those guys and so it is more difficult it's a little different that's just something
that you have to think about with him now on it back to the positive note ricky pierce all has
been sick ricky pierce all from florida is just a good football player man i think he's going in
the second round despite the size he is tough as nails come in as he's made what do we have here
he is six foot flat 193 30 and three eight three force arms and just over nine inch hands he
doesn't look small on the field no cowing looks small yeah but he doesn't look big obviously no
but i think average yeah he looks he looks between six foot six foot one and again you know
the one-handed catch this past season where he gets absolutely obliterated by two guys
and he somehow hangs on he's had a couple of contested catches here already and he is it's
like to me it's either him or lab and conkey is the best route runner here and he and he is up
there with that kind of consistent separation how he is able to win he's such a smart football player
i think people look at ricky pierce all and think oh yeah we'll be able to get a really solid football
player in round three or four I don't think it's happening I think we're talking about a second
round maybe early third round type of a player especially if he tests pretty well at the combine
so to me Pearsall has been one of the big winners of the week because of how good of a route runner
this dude has been sticking with the pass catcher theme, but looking more towards tight end,
I think Jaheim Bell's had some really nice moments here.
Notably on day one was the day for me
where he's either made some plays down the field
or notably what we expect him to do
is the catch and run opportunities.
So the tight end group,
admittedly from what I've gotten to watch out of them,
has really, really been lacking,
especially the national team,
which has been the first practice of the day, drops galore with that side of tight end. But I
thought Bell flashed in a way we expected him to on day one is that very unique move tight end
weapon that we've liked to watch in college now. Yeah. I mean, I'm going to be honest. Like I just
haven't really noted any of the other guys.
I've noted the drops.
Nothing's really stood out.
But certainly Bell has had, I think, the biggest catches of everybody from the tight end group.
Barner had an unfortunate drop.
Brevin Spann-Ford had an opportunity to be a one-on-one winner in the competitive period,
and he did not complete that.
Theo Johnson, I think he's huge.
He's passing the eye test for sure.
He's 6'6", 257 pounds.
And so I think teams are just going to like the size overall,
but it's not like he's dominating in that regard either.
So I'm with you.
I think it's a quiet, more quiet tight end group.
Some other wide receivers that I know people are going to ask us about,
I think Jamari Thrash.
It felt like Jamari was a manifestation of what we saw from him on tape,
where, okay, deep threat, not the fastest guy, but he just always seems to come up with the football deep.
And here we are at the Senior Bowl, and it's the same thing.
It's not like he's blowing by guys with Usain Bolt track speed, but he's gaining a little bit of separation.
He's very subtle, and he knows when to kind of get that arm out to you know push a little bit when the ball was coming in he's just so confident he's tracking over his shoulder so he's had some big touchdown catches already this week so i think that he's
been a big winner too yeah thrash has definitely been one of the better receivers um did you want
to move to running back so you didn't have anything else on the tight ends once again it
hasn't really been an opportunity for them to shine.
Yes.
Yeah, we can move on to the running backs.
Before we do that, though, we've got to talk about our friends over at DraftKings.
We're talking about our friends here at the Senior Bowl, of course.
They're the leader in fantasy sports.

tough position to really stand out right it's a brutal event for running backs i think it's
the game because the whole nature of the running back position is yards after contact basically
you know and and can you break tackles and no you're not supposed to take guys to the ground here so it's tough for
linebackers it's tough for running backs to really stand out because what they do is based off of
tackling but i thought day one um rashid ali from marshall was the guy who showed a ton of patience, had a couple of big runs, very productive year at Marshall this past season.
And so he is somebody who I just remember having some of the biggest plays,
even in situations where it's tough for them to stand out.
Because of the burst.
I've seen the burst with Ali.
That's what stood out to me.
I'll give one that just physically being next to him,
and you just wonder how do people tackle this guy,
is Ray Davis from Kentucky.
He's so thick.
He's like 5'8", 220.
I know you have the official, and I know you'll get to that in a second.
I'm in the section called him a thick king.
It's insane.
And he moves well in drills.
He was light.
Dude, he had a sick one cut today.
The coach, the running back coach who was on the Cardinals staff,
he was just – the way he – the running backs were really struggling
during a lot of the drills with the running back coach,
and he wasn't getting into them.
He was just trying to explain things.
And Davis was always the last guy to go, and it was perfect every time.
And the best one was one of the running backs wasn't finishing his drill
where you have to stop and cut in front
of the coach he wasn't getting close enough to him he was doing it too far away so davis is the
last guy to go and he almost trucked him that's how close he got he had the coach under his breath
was like damn that's real close i was like this is what you get in the senior bowl but davis is
a dude that when you're around him you go oh you can just feed him the rock up the middle, and tackling him will just wear people out because he is truly built.
He's the fire hydrant built.
I mean, he's 5'8", he's massive, he's got really, really big legs,
and he just took really well at coaching.
You could tell he has the experience.
He played a ton of snaps the last two years as well for Kentucky.
Yeah.
Is he going to be the highest drafter running back here?
I think he is.
He might be. We've got Cody Schrader. Schrader had a great year Marshawn Lloyd oh yeah it's either
gonna be him or Marshawn Lloyd Marshawn Lloyd's had some some nice reps where he's got some good
yards after the catch I mean he's a very explosive running back so I think that he is somebody who
could be drafted higher than Davis but I mean I agree with you I think the teams are just gonna
really like Ray Davis he had the best run of the day in the scrimmage period um at the end of the
second practice here today on Wednesday where you know it was a nice little run at the middle okay
you got the original block from the line scrimmage and then normally you're running into linebackers
and they're blowing the play dead but there was a lineman that was climbing to the second level and
he put his foot in the ground and he had a sick jump cut
that immediately changed directions and it was like oh okay like even with tackling i don't think
you get him in that situation and then he was up the sidelines so um i agree i think that he
he is definitely standing out is anybody anybody disappointed from the running back position i
don't know if anybody's hard to 106 missed tackles forced by the way the last two years for ray davis so he's he's created a lot of yards i i think that
uh i wonder if dylan lobby the uh the new hampshire running back i wonder if he is just kind of like a
pass catching specialist i was wondering if we were going to kind of get here and maybe he just
he stand he's able to stand out more and i think that you're right i think the game itself is a
little bit better of a judge for that so we probably gotta wait throughout the week see how
he does in the game but i think he might be more of just that pass catching specialist remember
this is a guy who had 323 receiving yards in one single game yeah this year so uh obviously
understands what it's like to be a receiving weapon out of the backfield. Unless I missed it, we haven't seen the backs work in pass pro through two days.
I have not seen that yet.
I'm almost positive we haven't even seen it.
You know, I think we will also have—so we're doing another episode this week.
It's going to be a mock draft.
We're going to have a post-Shrine and Senior Bowl mock draft for you guys on Friday.
It's going to be two rounds because you guys are sickos and we're sickos
and that's just the time of the year that it is
because we want to talk about as many of these guys as possible.
So it's going to be a two-rounder.
And if we have additional notes on some of those players
from what we see tomorrow, we'll obviously shout those out
because I think you're right.
I think we're going to get pass protection drills from the running backs.
Goal line?
I don't know.
They're not going to go full savage and do goal line. I think that times have changed. I don't know if they're not gonna go they're not gonna go full savage no goal line i think that uh times have changed i don't
know if you could do goal line these things but i think we'll get red zone i think we'll get red
red zone from both of these teams so a fair shake um any linebackers stand out before we get the dbs
this is i always say and i've talked to agents about this and they're the ones that kind of put
me on to it talk to agents they get it. We talk to agents.
They do not like sending running backs and linebackers
typically to all-star events because of how,
not running backs as much, but linebackers,
because it's really just an event that you could get exposed.
You lose.
You lose.
Like, how are you set up to win?
So with that being said,
I mean, you just see the experience with Peyton Wilson that's like an obvious it's not really
groundbreaking outside of that I haven't seen somebody flying around uh the Notre Dame
linebacker is very very vocal who am I JT Bertrand that was the guy that I was going to shout out he
is loud and very aware pre-snap of what's going on and helping out his teammates yep I agree I
think that he's somebody you know not that we've been able to catch everything at practice,
but from the scrimmages and the early, you know, seven-on-seven periods, whatever it is,
he has been very vocal.
He's always pumping up his teammates.
And I just think it is important, not that you can't have quiet leaders like, you know,
I think of Levante David with the Buccaneers.
I mean, like, he is more of a soft-spokenoken guy, but also when you get him on the field, it's
very different.
You have to be communicative.
You have to be, it's got to be a natural instinct for you to just want to tell the defensive
line something, tell the defensive back something, but also beyond that, pump up your teammates
when good plays are made.
And I think that a lot of the linebackers have been good at that. But I specifically noticed Bertrand from Notre Dame.
I think that he's kind of like a standout player in that regard as well.
So, all right, you want to wrap this thing up with –
we only have corners and safeties left, right?
That's it.
And arguably some of the biggest standouts, I think, in this group.
Sure.
We opened with Mitchell.
I guess that's where we can kind of tail into.
Dude, I, so.
I've been blown away.
Let me just say it like that.
Because I, I'll tell you where I had him.
You know, for me, I came into this event.
It's one of those where I was like, man, I feel really good about being high on Tyler Guyton.
And he's only going to go up in my tackle rankings.
But I feel like, so I had Mitchell sixth.
The corners ahead of him are so good.
Amazing, amazing.
I don't know, dude.
The number one thing that I've been most impressed with.
But are we?
Maybe.
Yes.
That he does not press on tape.
And when he's put his hands on people here,
they've been stuck in quicksand
yup that's incredible to watch it's really hard to after this week because i agree with you
completely the number one thing that you and i said on the podcast what we wanted to see from
cornea mitchell is what are you going to be like when the coaches put you in press because they're
going to put you in press that's what the whole event is about putting you in situations that are a little bit outside of your comfort zone what
kind of a football player are you they put this dude in press and he has passed it with flying
colors he's like loving it it's not even that he's just out there doing it he's it's unlocked a part
of him mentally and physically that everybody's standing there like this is the dude jeff risdon
who is um good friend of the pod covers covers the Detroit Lions, also big draft dude
as well. He's worked for Real GM for a long time and probably a bunch of other outlets because
Jeff's awesome. He said that he talked to Quinan earlier this week and he said that his confidence
level is teetering between being just a very confident person and chauncey garner johnson jr which
anytime that's the case anybody knows anything about chauncey garner johnson um he likes to
chirp and we've said this before talking shit is a prerequisite for playing defensive back most of
the time you have to believe you're the baddest dude on the field the second you walk on the field and quinion believes that and he said when he talked to him
he felt that um he i i uh jeff mentioned that he was an ohio bobcat i think he graduated from
university of ohio and and quinion was like uh sorry for beating your ass bro and it's just like
all right man it's so natural you're talking shit to a media that's how witherspoon was last year
very quick at the time.
I love it, man.
It was awesome.
It was awesome.
And here's the thing, man.
Everything else is there with Quinion.
He had the forcing completions.
He had the interceptions.
He's got the track background speed.
He's got a ton of experience in off-coverage debate quarterbacks.
His click and close ability is fantastic.
He can turn a run with you.
And now he's shown that he is at least willing to
learn to be confident when it comes to press coverage with more reps. I'm not lying, man.
I've heard enough from the people who are really plugged in, who are at this event.
Brad Spielberger, again, friend of the show, was talking to a scout as well. And his buddy was
raving about how good Quinion Mitchell is.
I genuinely believe that there's a shot
this guy could be the first cornerback taken.
I wouldn't bet against it.
I truly believe after the weakest he is having,
I think he could be the first cornerback drafted
in the 2024 NFL draft.
He's going, I think, top 15.
Yeah, I mean, it certainly feels like it.
It's one of those things where there were plenty of teams high on him before this but he came into this event just
totally unlocked a different part of him one corner that i haven't talked a lot about on our
show i'm looking forward to watching more of his tape and i think he's had some big moments here
is cam hart from notre dame he's big dude yeah he's played the ball really well he's extremely
physical uh if you need a long
corner that can get his hands on people at the line of scrimmage if you're sitting in there and
you're running a you know pretty heavy cover three kind of scheme i mean heart is just physically
imposing compared to a lot of these other dbs out here so i watched heart for our cornerback episode
and i had a guy tweet at me he's like hey what do you think of cam harton he he measured in uh six three almost six three just under six three over 200 pounds um
32 and five eights arms i mean seven he's huge for a corner i mean he is big and when you watch
him at notre dame it's kind of to me it felt like a a classic hey this is a big corner he's really
physical with you got long arms but it's tougher
for him to move it's tougher for him to stop and go but he I don't know if it's just the
the confidence the anticipation he's not really letting that show this week and so this has
definitely been a step in the right direction for him because I agree with you I think that he has
played uh really well I think the Oregon State state or washington state corner uh sean smith wade has played really well as well i think that he's had some really great
reps max melton our boy from ruckers i think he's had some really big moments especially in the
scrimmages i noticed a couple of nice pbus from max melton so he's somebody that we talked about
having some inside out versatility and so big GPS numbers for him, too, Mel.
I know, dude. He's been one of the top GPS guys.
And he's been flying, which is great to see.
You love to see that.
Chris Abrams' Drain, I think, has had some really nice reps,
and so I've liked him.
I do want to talk about Kalen King because—
Yeah, we have to.
Everybody's asking.
King was somebody who, unfortunately,
kind of took a tumble down our rankings,
did not have nearly as good of
a year this year as he did the year before i also don't think he's having a good week at the senior
bowl i don't really know what happened here to be honest with you because i watched this dude over
the summer and you the feistiness how sticky he was he always played up to guys that were bigger
than him and even after the bad game against ohio state this year you don't just write off a player
because they had a bad game against Marvin Harrison Jr.
You could say, I wish he held up better.
But he had a couple of rough games this year
and he comes out here where you would think
he's not gonna be lights out
because this is an event for corners to be lights out,
but highly competitive.
And I talked about the ups and downs of Devontae's Walker.
But when you watch a guy like Walker that's so much bigger than king and has those leggy strides it's hard for king to hold
up at the line of scrimmage and then it's hard for him to open up and run with taller guys that
eat up a lot of turf and it just makes you he he is trending towards a guy that needs to find a way
to convert to play smaller slot receivers.
And that's not what he's been asked to do.
Right, right, right.
And even the times when he really loses on tape is with the quick cuts.
It's like he's not anticipating it well enough.
We know he's a good enough athlete.
We saw in 2022, he had an elite 91.9 single coverage coverage grade this dude was locked down it was crazy how good where does that
go and it's very frustrating the way that it's frustrating for josh newton who is no longer at
this event so we didn't get to see him which is a bummer but he's the same way just not good tape
from 2022 to 2023 just was not able to keep that in corners a tough position
to continuous continuously play well but what a king come in at officially because that's been a
big talking point to people wondering i don't remember because he's listed 5 11 but i never
thought he was 5 11 king is 5 foot 10 or is that 5 foot 11 no it's it's 5'11. Wow, 5'11 exactly. He's 5'11, 189, shorter arm length.
Yeah, definitely shorter arm length.
I don't know, man.
It is really weird.
It's just, it's been a tough fall for him
and you just wonder what's going on there
after how great he was the year before.
Yeah.
Also, I did want to shout out,
I believe this was a later ad,
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. from Louis from louisville he had an incredible i mean he
was to me the best db including quinion mitchell today where the wednesday one-on-one was nuts
he had three reps in a row where not only did he win the rep he put himself in good enough position to
intercept the football three times in a row nobody does that we got here not not in any one-on-one
situation ever one-on-ones the wide receiver is supposed to win you have all the freedom in the
world you have the entire field to work with the guy's got to play island coverage against you
there's nothing over the top there's no linebacker on the inside there's no help anywhere you know when the ball's
coming the corner doesn't he can't be overconfident in at any point and brownlee jr who i admittedly
don't know a lot about and i'm gonna watch him the second that we get home he just i mean he was
he was incredible he was incredible today yeah so originally i was looking this up now transfer
from florida state he's been a starter for louisville the last two years and feels like
he got a lot better in 2023 and is carrying that momentum to the senior bowl but i mean you look at
the the deeper numbers it was not great in 2022 so maybe a dude that just has improved a lot with
a lot of playing time at the college level i mean you're looking at somebody that has almost 1400
coverage snaps at the college level he's playing really well man it's playing super good to see him get that
call uh any other corners or safeties i think that was it for me i thought i had one safety
sion vaki our guy i mean vaki is just such an interesting athlete do you see you got reps
running back no i didn't catch that yeah i was wondering if they were gonna do that or caught
that renner caught that he said that vaki was getting reps or running back why not maximize
your skill set you're good at it in college 100 offer everything at the next level i think jalen
simpson's been playing really well the auburn safety who used to be a corner was struggling
at corner his last couple of years contributing there and then he switches over to safety he's
light for safety he's only 178 and so the run stopping part of the job you don't
really get exposed in when you're not tackling and bringing people to the ground but he reads
coverages really well early part of the season he had a bunch of interceptions and i think those
instincts were showing up here so in terms of what he can do to help himself i thought he was
standing out as one of those safeties so jalen simpson is somebody who i've definitely noticed
i think one of the cooler moments i saw this week with the DBs was there was randomly a ton of uh kids in the stands they
were diehard Missouri fans here I mean diehard and they were they were young and they were yelling
all all practice and Chris Abrams train ran over to them you got to realize after practice all the
media from the stands is allowed down there's news networks there's the NFL network there's
everything these guys are asked to do TV they're asked to talk to scouts they're asked to talk to All the media from the stands is allowed down. There's news networks. There's the NFL network. There's everything.
These guys are asked to do TV.
They're asked to talk to scouts.
They're asked to talk to media, all the way from YouTubers and bloggers to national columnists.
And he was out forever, and he still made the time, sprinted over the kids.
They had the time of their life with this dude signing.
That's awesome.
And he was so happy there.
He was answering every question they had.
So it's cool when guys really get to soak this event in when it's a job, man.
It's a lot of work out there.
You're tired.
You're doing so much media.
But it was such a random thing to see.
But I was like, that's really cool.
No, it is.
It is super cool.
We'll get to some maybe final shout outs that we forgot before we wrap it up here.

But a lot more senior bowl thoughts.
It's easier when you package the entire week together.
Right.
Right now we're sprinting.
I think it'll be fun, especially for the guys that we know are going to be those top 60-ish picks.
Once we get to talk about them in mock draft format,
we get to talk about what they do well specifically for a team, right?
And so we'll get into a lot of those specifics as well.
But that'll be a good time.
