Welcome to the NFL Stock Exchange podcast.
In this episode, we're fixing another franchise,
and this time, it's the New York Jets.
Man, you could take this one back many years
to figure out the roots of how the New York Jets got here,
and that's exactly what we do.
We talk about how the Jets got into this mess,
some potential GM and head coach fixes
for them to hire this offseason,
a little roster overview, some cut candidates,
who they could target in free agency,
and then, just because we love you,
two mini Jets mock drafts for three rounds.
I'm Trevor Sykema.
With me, as always, is Connor Rogers.
Let's ring the bell.
Welcome to the opening bell of the NFL Stock Exchange Podcast.
I'm Trevor Sycamore.
That is Connor Rogers.
And look, we did the first Fix Your Franchise last Thursday.
I did not intend on doing the next Fix Your Franchise this soon.
But when the New York Jets lose to the New England Patriots
and your good buddy Connor Rogers texts you,
hey, you want to break the Jets down to the studs on Monday?
You know we have to do it.
It's Fix Your Franchise once again, and we are talking about the New York Jets,
a wild journey this podcast is going to take us on.
But Connor, truly, I say this to open up every show.
How are you feeling, my friend?
This is a good exercise.
Release the demons.
I texted you that, and your response to me was,
I wasn't going to say it.
If you want to do this, let's do this.
People have been asking us, surprisingly, for about three weeks.
We laughed it off the first week.
We half laughed it off the second week.
Then after this one, you look around, and you're like,
you know what?
It's one of the most interesting storylines in football.
For a lot of the wrong reasons, from the Jets' side of it,
they are in a fascinating spot.
And let's call it like it is.
Joe Douglas is on an expiring contract.
Robert Sala's already fired.
You could comfortably sit here and say there's probably no head coach
or GM of this team right now.
Depending on how this election goes,
we don't even know if the owner woody johnson
will be actually running this team oh my gosh the variables think of that the variables are insane
insane you have to remember woody was not here when sala was technically hired there i mean
obviously he was probably loosely involved and and but yeah they're this franchise man there's a reason you don't
accidentally not make the playoffs for 14 years it's them and the sabers out of the four major
sports that have this going it's hard to do there are so many ridiculous things and we're going to
break it all down yeah if you are new to the nfl stock exchange if you are watching this episode
for the first time because we know that sometimes the Fix Your Franchise episodes are very topical and we get to really dive into certain
fan bases. One, welcome. Glad to have you along for the ride. Basically, what we do here on Fix
Your Franchise is we really take a deep dive into this thing. Yes, we are a draft podcast and we end
this with a three-round mini team-centric mock draft, which we will do again here on the show.
But when it comes to mock drafts
connor and i we don't like to just put names to teams even like oh okay like this this team needs this one position let's just put this guy here we want to know why we want to explain the
why always here on this podcast it's how we do our rankings it's how we do all of our scouting
reports our conversations about these guys making the jump from college to the NFL level. So we want to do that when we talk about teams as well,
especially when we criticize teams. We don't want to be a podcast that just, you know,
throws stones at guys and is like, oh, you're terrible without any sort of solution or real
discussion about it. So that's what we do here on this show. I want to do a better job of this
at the beginning of the show because a loyal addict and commenter commented on the last video that we had and was like, yo, you got to tell people at the beginning of the show to like and subscribe the video.
Like you guys have way too few of subscribers, which one, we really appreciate you saying that.
And two, I'll try to get better about that to open up the show to remind people, hey, we love to hear you're here, hanging out with us, talking some football.
If you could like the video and subscribe subscribe it would mean a lot to us so with that being said let's dig into it my friend
as we always do with uh fix your franchise episodes we got to talk about how we got here
after losing 25 to 22 to the new england patriots uh the jets are now two and six on the season if
the nfl draft were to happen this weekend they would hold the number four overall pick and you and i just did a draft order update episode what was it like a week and a half
ago and the jets and the rams were the two teams that were picking in the top seven where we're
like okay well they're obviously going to pick outside of the top 10 i don't know about that
i don't know jim
the most disappointing thing though connor before i
want to hear from you as our resident jets guy the thing that's disappointing to me and something
that encapsulates this season in my opinion is the jets are oh and five against the spread
in the last five weeks they were favored by a touchdown in this game over the new england
patriots and not only did they not cover, they lost the game outright. This is a team that there is talent and
there are expectations and they are not living up to any of it in any way, shape or form. And I
think that's sort of something that we will bring up throughout the course of this episode. But I
would love to hear from you. You could take it back as far as you want. How did we get here with the New York Jets?
You can go back really far,
but I think the easiest landing point
is when they were last successful.
And that was during 2009, 2010,
back-to-back AFC Championship appearances
under Rex Ryan.
Now, there's a couple layers to this.
Rex had incredible energy.
He was a defensive mastermind at the time. He made those runs with players, a roster built by Eric Mangini, who was obviously fired and then led to Rex Ryan's hiring. Mangini was not a good head coach in the NFL, but Mangini was a pretty good talent evaluator. You look at some of the players that the Jets got during his regime,
and Mike Tannenbaum was obviously the GM that stayed on
and worked with Rex, Darrell Rivas, David Harris.
I mean, there was a lot of longtime key contributors to Berkshaw.
Ferguson, Nick Mangold.
And then when Rex couldn't keep up with the roster,
things kind of spiraled.
Teams caught on to Rex's scheme.
They tried to ride it out with Rex by moving on from Tannenbaum and hiring John Idzik.
That was an all-time disaster.
Idzik was only the GM for two years.
He was really billed as a capologist and all these things.
He couldn't draft.
They didn't hit on really many picks during that era.
They did draft Geno Smith, by the way, who has rebuilt his career.
Never wrong, just early.
Just like eight, nine years early.
I did never wrong, just early.
Just early.
Shout out to Cedric Tillman, big time weekend.
Listen, you know I'd fit him into this podcast.
And then they start this new era with Todd Bowles, Mike McCagnin,
a roster originally really built through the pro
market. Mike McCagnin wins executive of the year and things start to spiral downhill from there.
Didn't work out with Sam Darnold. There's this weird intersection where Bowles is fired.
McCagnin's still there. They hire Adam Gase. And then a month later, McCagnin's fired. They bring
in Joe Douglas. And that's how we got to this era, where Joe Douglas was signed to a six-year deal to work with Adam Gase
and to rebuild things the right way around Sam Darnold.
To do that, in his first draft class in 2020,
he took Mekhi Becton, Denzel Mims, Ashton Davis, Jabari Zuniga,
LaMichael P. Ryan, James Morgan, Cameron Clark,
now Tampa Bay Buccaneer Bryce Hall, and punter Braden Mann.
A lot of those guys either not in the league, not on a 53-man roster, and definitely, besides Ashton Davis,
not with the New York Jets out of nine selections.
Trevor, I think this is the perfect landing spot because where it all started to go downhill during the Joe Douglas era
was in his very first
draft when Tristan Wirfs was sitting on the board there he went with the ceiling home run swing
instead of instead of a high floor tackle pick in Wirfs and the Becton pick through injuries
through in my opinion uh some questionable work ethic and overall fit with different regimes
was an unmitigated disaster for this franchise and
they've been chasing a rebuild of an offensive line ever since they missed on this pick but that
draft class and we'll get through the rest of them really kind of it felt like they were always
chasing their tail and trying to fix a giant hole that started with that group and then kind of transpired into the Zach Wilson
era and on and on. Right. And I think that that is, you know, you have much more of a Jets
perspective than I do, but it's funny because my other co-host on the PFF NFL show, Dalton
Waxman is also a Jets fan. I just can't get away from you guys. My fiance's entire family is so
many of us. My fiance's entire family is Jets fans us my fiance's entire family is jets fans so it's just like you know i'm just i'm just surrounded by jets fans over here
when they win eventually i'm gonna feel you know like partially as jets fan right right
the rooty for it tired of listening to these people so dalton i was talking with him the other
day and you know things obviously aren't going well for the Jets, and it was really after that game went final against New England Patriots,
and he basically was like,
can I tell you how the butterfly effect of picking Mekhi Becton over Tristan Wirfs
ruined Joe Douglas and his franchise?
And I'm like, yeah, you absolutely can.
I'm going to pull up a chair and listen to this.
So I'm going to give a little bit
of an oral telling of that you please correct me anywhere that i am wrong or mistaken so
i'm glad it's not me for once okay so we go back so we go back to the 2020 nfl draft and you're
right joe douglas in his first draft is trying to fortify the offensive line right and it's a
good offensive tackle draft to be able to do so.
Remember, it wasn't just Mekhi Becton and Tristan Wirfs.
Jedrick Wills was in this class, and Jedrick Wills goes number 10 overall.
I know Jedrick Wills hasn't been great, certainly as of late,
but he was seen coming out of Alabama as a really touted prospect.
Right. Andrew Thomas from Georgia, who is a very good left tackle
when he has been healthy.
He goes number four overall in this draft.
Which was a surprise, remember?
No, absolutely.
I didn't know what order these guys were going to go in.
He wasn't projected to be the fourth overall pick,
and obviously he's been a great player.
It stinks that he's hurt right now.
100%.
So Thomas goes four.
Wills goes 10.
Then the Jets come on the board at number 11.
And you're right.
Joe Douglas ends up trying to take
the home run like offensive tackle we've never seen this blend of size and speed and it's just
they try to take the home run with Mekhi Becton instead of Tristan Wirfs now Tristan Wirfs side
of things we all know what has happened he has become an all-pro offensive tackle he's a Super
Bowl winner he's one of the most consistent offensive linemen
in the game of football right now, and he plays
at a very high level basically every single
week. So on the Jets' side of things,
that's Tristan Wirth's side of things.
That's what they could have had, and instead,
this is where the butterfly effect really
starts and where Dalton really started to talk to me about that.
The first pick that he made was
Mekhi Becton right there.
Becton goes on to start 13
games in his rookie season. Looks fine. All right. Starts 13 games. Okay, great. Sam Darnold's not
the guy. So next off season 2021, they have the opportunity to take Zach Wilson number two overall.
So they end up taking Zach Wilson and you can look back at revisionist history all you want,
but it's not like any of the quarterbacks beyond that. Certainly Trey Lance, Justin Fields,
Mac Jones, and Trevor Lawrence was the guy at number one overall but the zach wilson
pick okay zach wilson didn't work out but it's still kind of beyond that and the butterfly effect
kind of continues after that so in 2021 beckton starting at left tackle morgan moses is starting
at right wilson in his first game beckton blows out his knee. So he's out. Yeah, he got rolled up on.
So he is out for the rest of the year.
In comes George Fant, all right?
George Fant has a decent season at left tackle,
which was the first time he had had a decent season in a while doing that.
So you had Morgan Moses at right tackle,
and you had George Fant at left tackle.
That next offseason after that, Morgan Moses is a free agent,
George Fant's a free agent, And they prioritize Fant over Morgan Moses.
Morgan Moses leaves.
And they bet on Fant, who had sort of that one good season the year before.
Becton can't play again that season because he gets hurt in the preseason, right?
I'm remembering that correctly?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you're on it.
So they signed Dwayne Brown.
Go off, young man.
Really old Dwayne Brown, all all due respect to play left tackle for them
and while while Becton is hurt and they flip George Fant to the other side this is all those
also the season where Elijah Vera Tucker got hurt Brees Hall got hurt so this is just sort of a wash
of a season like yeah completely so then in 2013 so then in 2023 Joe Douglas takes Will McDonald
in the first round
instead of any sort of offensive pick, right?
They watched the Pittsburgh Steelers jump in front of them for Broderick Jones,
which, okay, Broderick hasn't been great.
Yeah, McDonald's been better than him for sure.
Right, but like objectively, like when you thought that you probably needed
an offensive tackle and then letting that happen, not ideal.
They left Dwayne Brown in at left tackle.
Then they tried to move Becton over to right tackle
when all he's ever played is left tackle which he complained about Dwayne Brown at this point in
time again getting up there in age lets up the pressure that hits Aaron Rodgers blows his Achilles
out the season's over at that point and then you know it's just and then from there it's just like
completely the oh no it keeps going oh okay take over take over from there that's it that's what i got at that point because i i have
all the notes up to george fan being the guy that they prioritize over morgan moses and that being
the wrong call and then flipping flan to the other side and then beckton getting hurt in the preseason
they signed duane brown they kept duane brown there they try to move beckton to the right side
by keeping duwayne Brown there
because of his old age.
He tries a cut block on one play.
It doesn't work.
Aaron Rodgers pops his Achilles.
So that's as far as my butterfly effect goes.
If you got more, take off.
So then, wait, there's more.
Then after that, now they've taken Max Mitchell and Carter Warren as fourth-round developmental swing tackles before that.
Mitchell doesn't turn into the player that they want him to.
They actually went into camp in 2023 with Mitchell as a starter,
and he was so bad that summer that they put Becton in at right tackle
because Mitchell was unplayable.
So that pick was a miss right there. And then they
take, you know, another swing tackle and Carter Warren, but he's a rookie. They want to give him
time. Then what exactly what happens with Dwayne Brown missing the block and Aaron Rogers popping
his Achilles. Then they go into this last off season, having no answer at left tackle. So what
do they do? They get Tyron Smith on a one-year deal,
but Tyron Smith is a guy that hadn't played a full season since 2015.
So knowing that Tyron Smith will miss time at some point and needs a lot of veteran rest with the 10th overall pick
that they end up flipping to trade for the 11th overall pick
instead of get some extra capital.
They take Olu Fashnu, who I love, by the way.
I think Olu is going to be a really, really good player.
But because of this never-ending cloud at left tackle they had to take the tackle of the future that really is at some point this season going to be the tackle of the now Tyron's really struggle
doesn't look right at all and they had to pass on Brock Bowers Brian Thomas Jr. key playmakers
that would have helped the Jets offense that got off to a slow start this season
because all they really had was Garrett Wilson and Brees Hall.
And then what did they do?
They ended up trading a third round pick for Devontae Adams.
So this, it just kept going.
It's still, it might, something new might happen tomorrow
because of the left tackle issues,
taking Mekhi Becton at left tackle.
So yeah, this is actually carried over into
not only this off
last offseason this summer but this regular season as well and you know I feel bad about it because
it just feels like you know at some point at some point you can't let bad luck just like be the
excuses but you look at the Jets history and you just go like damn man like it's just it never
lined up well for them because
obviously if you draft tristan wirfs sure you might still i mean you're still searching for
another offensive tackle but eventually tristan wirfs basically would have been your left tackle
and you wouldn't have moved him like he would have like he would have been the guy for you at left
tackle and you would have been totally fine you could have figured out the other offense you got
morgan moses back who's been good this year exactly right right and you could have had morgan moses back like back then right so right another bad decision really
bad so you would have so you would have been okay there and then you compound that with the fact that
robert sala takes over in 2021 the defense is elite in 2022 and 2023 but then now they're bad in 2024 but it's hard to like say that any of that was necessarily
Salah's fault because you guys got to remember the defensive side of the football naturally it is much
more volatile than offenses like I think we're going to get into the roster and we're going to
talk about guys on the roster like I know a lot of people are pointing to Saskarner this year
because he'sarner this year because
he's struggling this year.
Certainly compared to the last two years that he has had.
I don't even blame him for that.
That's that's life is a corner.
Right.
You had two elite years in the NFL.
Guess what?
You're going to regress.
It's how it happens.
Basically the only corner that didn't do that.
It's Darrell Rivas.
It's like,
that's it.
And so there, there are no corners that
just stay elite forever even the best ones in the league are going to be a roller coaster and we
talk about that when we get to our draft evaluation so it just sucks because now that the offense is a
little bit better not that it's perfect and we're going to dig into that of course but the offense
is objectively better but the defense has taken such a step back naturally that now you've just got
like okay well we go into next week what's gonna blow it for us you know this week is it gonna be
the offense is it gonna be aaron rogers not gonna play well is the run game gonna play well is the
offensive line not gonna block is the pass rush gonna be barely be able to get home or the corner
is gonna disappoint us like now unfortunately last season in 2023, the Jets were like, score 17 points, please, for the love of God.
Yeah, raise the 20.
That's it.
Just score 17, 20 points and we win the football game.
Now you just don't know.
Now they're just much more, you know, prone to mistakes on both sides of the ball. crazy how the Makai Becton pick doomed Douglas's entire regime and obviously Robert Salas as well.
Yeah. And I think the other side of it too, is that this happens to all failed GMs.
Douglas never got it right at quarterback and it began to compound a mistake a little bit,
right? So he gets here, he wants to build it around Sam Darnold.
That doesn't work.
Then they're going to trade Sam Darnold,
and they're going to take Zach Wilson second overall in the 2021 draft.
And they made that decision months before the draft.
So Salah, when him and LaFleur came in,
his offensive coordinator, Mike LaFleur,
they believed in Sam's talent.
But then they were sold by the front office that, hey, we can get assets for Sam and we
can take a guy that we think will be better in Zach Wilson.
So they take Zach Wilson second overall.
And while they're building a really good defense, Zach Wilson is sinking the offense so badly
that he gets Mike LaFleur
fired.
That wasn't Salah's decision.
That was out of Salah's hands because of how poorly things went in 2022
that it seems like people at the top for Salah's hand to fire Michael
LaFleur.
And if you don't believe me,
keep in mind that Salah and Matt LaFleur are best friends.
He was not going to fire his best friend's younger brother,
who looks pretty good with every quarterback
that played under center that wasn't Zach Wilson.
So that was a big issue as well.
There was obviously friction there.
And then when they finally realized
that Zach Wilson simply cannot play
and they get Aaron Rodgers,
well, that's the deal with the devil you have to make,
is that you pulled the lever on there's high upside but also high risk of a 40-year-old quarterback
that Green Bay was done with that needed control of a lot of different things over the organization,
needed his offensive coordinator in Nathaniel Hackett, who is one of the bottom-tier offensive coordinators,
if not the bottom, he's not even calling plays anymore in the NFL,
and a lot of bad personnel decisions
that came over with Rodgers,
from Randall Cobb to Alan Lazard,
Billy Turner in 2023,
and on and on and on.
So the problem is,
that's on Joe Douglas.
You missed the number two overall pick.
You missed.
And you didn't do enough
to set up Sam Darnold for success, and then you got your own guy, you missed horrifically on him, and then because you missed and you didn't do enough to set up sam donald for success and then you got your own guy
you missed horrifically on him and then because you missed you even got another chance with rogers
and it's it it just you know a lot of people would have made that decision in that state of emergency
that he put himself in and it hasn't worked look and and i i want to be clear here right we're
we're criticizing because it's easy, unfortunately,
for where the Jets currently are.
And I think it was just a little too late for Joe Douglas
because you're right.
When you look at that 2020 draft, the first one that he had,
it's pretty much a disaster.
It's dreadful.
Yeah, it's a terrible draft.
The second draft, 2021,
I don't really know how that could have gone better for you at number two overall because again
like trey lance has like can't get on the field anywhere around the league and he can't get on
the field justin fields looks better this year but like before this it's not like justin fields was
that much i'm gonna get killed for this but like that much better than zach wilson like if you sub
justin fields for zach wilson i maybe it's different I don't know but Justin Fields hasn't been that much of a world beater before this
season maybe it accelerates that so maybe I'm just not thinking about it correctly maybe people in
the comments can tell me to shut the hell up but they're like Mac Jones wouldn't have been a better
pick so instead you're just you're not picking Trevor Lawrence because he wasn't on the board
so what else were you going to do you had to pick a quarterback you take a chance on Zach Wilson
that doesn't work Elijah Vera Tucker was good for you later in the first round and he's
always hurt and then after that it's Elijah Moore it's Michael Carter but I will say this
the last well I would say the 2022 draft and 2023 draft pretty good the 2022 draft Sauce Gardner
Garrett Wilson Jermaine Johnsonson breeze hall good objectively good draft
from joe douglas now right you got three first round picks so it's obviously you got a hit on
him to look good but he did the next year i don't love the fact that you weren't able to go up and
get an offensive tackle but you know so be it pittsburgh jumping in for broderick jones or
whatever you get will mcdonald you get joe tipman you got carter warren i at least like the joe joe
tip and picking the will mcdonald pick i think those are fine and then i least like the Joe, Joe Tippin pick in the Will McDonald pick. I think those are fine.
And then I,
I like the old Fushano pick this past year.
And Braylon Allen looks good as well.
Um,
I think Corley,
Corley looks like a bad pick.
Oh,
really?
Is he that bad?
He's barely ever active unless somebody's hurt.
Hmm.
But,
but that also could be a Rogers thing.
Again,
I'm not trying to,
I don't know.
This is all keying up on,
keying up on all the problems.
So this,
this brings me to this and sort of how I want to put a bow on this
before we dig into GM candidates because, again, like I said,
we don't just complain here on this show.
We don't just point out when you fail.
We're going to give you a blueprint that we think could work for this team.
So we're going to talk about GM candidates.
We're going to talk about head coach candidates.
We're going to talk about moves they're going to make in the offseason.
Before we get to that, this is how I want to wrap this up.
The team has a major identity problem right now.
Yep.
And I'm going to tell you this from experience covering teams like this.
The Jets are losers.
Now, I'm not saying that like a high school bully.
I'm saying that because that is their mentality right now.
You can sit here and say whatever you want.
That Aaron Rodgers won a Super Bowl over 10 years ago.
And he knows what it takes to win in this league.
And get into the playoffs and win a Super Bowl.
You could say that.
But right now, let me tell you.
The rest of the roster does not believe it.
This looks like a team that is scared.
Yes.
It looks like a team that has pressure from everywhere.
They're playing for their GM.
They're playing for their own jobs.
They're playing for their head coach's job
who's already gotten fired.
They're playing for a quarterback
where if they screw up,
they feel like Rodgers might yell at them.
That's what it looks like for this team.
And the reason why I feel confident in saying that the Jets are losers is because I watched
the Buccaneers be losers for four years when I was covering that team as a beat reporter.
Now, when I say they're losers, I don't, again, I don't say that like as a high school
bullet.
What I mean is they don't know how to win.
They don't walk into the stadium every week
thinking we're going to win the football game.
They look like they walk into the stadium right now nervous
that they're going to screw it up,
that they can't play free and confident.
And I watched Tampa during the Jameis Winston,
Dirk Cotter era specifically
have a lot of damn talent on that team. Jameis threw for over 5,000 yards one year. That team
could light up a scoreboard and every single turn, somehow they lost. Somehow they finished below 500.
And it's because it's not that they didn't want to win. You ask any of these players, they'll tell you they want to win.
But they don't know how.
It is not in their identity.
Right now, it is not in the Jets' identity to be a winner.
And I'll tell you what changed.
When Bruce Arians got in the building for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
that shit changed.
And even though they didn't have a successful season
in Bruce Arians first
season there,
which was Jameis Winston's last season there,
they knew exactly what they needed to do.
Now,
of course it helps the fact that they got Tom Brady to come down.
So if I had a solution for the New York jets,
it would go be go,
go get Tom Brady to come.
They tried this plan.
They tried this plan.
They just got Aaron Rogers.
It was the available version.
But that was, obviously, Brady being as talented as he is is one thing.
But the biggest difference maker with Brady is that they had a winning mentality.
I remember Scott Reynolds, my boss at Pewter Report, would tell me that in the early 2000s with the Buccaneers,
you know, when it was first Tony Dungy's defense and then it it went into John Gruen's and obviously they were, you know, they won that Superbowl
there. Scott said, Trevor, I'd, I'd, I'd roll up to the stadium. And it wasn't about, oh,
I wonder if the Bucs are going to win today. It was just about how much they were going to win by
because the team had winners. They believe they were winners. They knew what it took to win. They knew
what it took to lean on each other.
They knew the chemistry they needed to have. They knew
the discipline they needed to have. They knew the work
ethic they needed to have. The coaches believed it.
The front office believed it. The owners believed it.
The players believed it. And right now, when I
look at the Jets, they don't have
that winner mentality right now.
And that's going to kind of usher
into who I put up for general manager and head coach.
But that is what I feel right now.
They are lacking a winning identity anywhere in that organization.
You are 100% right.
And I think it's the perfect segue into a thought I have.
We're going to talk about GM candidates.
But I think the Jets are in such a bad place at the top of their organization
that they need to be a franchise that the owner has to hire a president of all football operations
to conduct this search and get this organization's priority straight to winning football games.
And truthfully, the last time it feels like this organization was fully on that plane was
when bill Parcells was running the team in the late nineties and they built a
powerhouse roster with a great coaching staff.
And yes,
they had some runs,
you know,
with Herm Edwards and Rex Ryan and the jets were not a bad organization from
2000 to 2010.
They were pretty normal organization,
make the
playoffs here come up short here every few every other year or so but i do think they look at the
brett farvey year in 2008 they got away from always prioritizing old school football mentality
and chased headlines during the woody johnson that part of the woody johnson era and then that fully
transpired after 2010 whether it was tim tebow whether it was the random mark sanchez extension
that never made any sense gino smith getting his jaw broken in the locker room on and on not
building an infrastructure around a young quarterback not hiring the right coaches not
hiring the right gm this gm search to me and uh this we i'll include us in this if they want
to hire us to do it uh stepbrother style but in all seriousness they need to hire somebody to be
the president of football operations to get the handle on this this search cannot be handled and
run by the johnson family it cannot. And if it is,
they will have no confidence from the fan base at all.
Just walk up to Woody Johnson
and be like,
I think I can help
with the whole Pam Pan situation
that we got going here
with the New York Jets.
That's how we'll start
our consulting meeting.
And he'd look at me
and be like,
who the hell are you?
No, he's an addict.
He listened to the show.
Okay, before we get into
the GM candidates,
got to tell people this show is sponsored by BetterHelp.
Think of a time when recently maybe you couldn't feel like your full self, right?
You were hiding behind a mask or a costume, something like that.
October, Halloween, it's always the season for wearing masks and costumes.
But some of us feel like we're wearing masks and hide more than we want to, right?
At work, social settings, around our family.
We just feel like we cannot be the authentic parts of ourselves master great for halloween not for the emotions and better help
therapy they can really help you learn to accept all parts of yourself so you can take off that
mask i've been doing therapy for over a year and a half really enjoyed it it's something that
started out with hey i i needed help kind of talking with somebody uh was really going through
something personal and it's now something where I go every other week.
And it's a great way.
Sometimes there's things I got to get off my chest, some things I got to talk about.
But other times it's, you know, I'm sitting there talking about things that are going well.
And you're able to also amplify the things that are going well.
So it's not just for when times are tough, but also, you know, when things are great,
it can help you appreciate that and make sure you don't have the imposter symptom for it.
And you can really enjoy it. Therap it's a great useful way to have a
better understanding of how your mind actually works, you can become more aware of your own
patterns, and how you improve them. It's not just for the people who are struggling with something,
like I said, you can also be about amplifying the good things in your life too. If you're
thinking about starting therapy, get better help with your eye better helps convenient,
flexible, entirely on way online way to get therapy that is right for you. You just fill
out a brief questionnaire, get matched with a licensed therapist and you can switch therapists at any time for no additional
charge take off the mask with better help visit betterhelp.com nflse today to get 10 off your
first month that's betterhelp h-e-l-p dot com slash nfl se all right let's i think we should
do gm first unless you had like a president i i didn't think of that i love the idea like a
president like a like football everything basically um i don't know if you had like a
suggestion like an overlord in mind but this is hard because one you don't know who's interested
in doing that it's a very behind the scenes kind of role because you're not coaching the team and
you're really not even making the draft picks
you are just overseeing the organization and getting it back to being professional status
by placing the right people in all the right roles right my my example and this is a long
shot but this type of person is what i want to focus on is a pete. Ah, brother. So I thought about his head coach.
Well, I know.
He's 73.
I know, and I love it.
This summer, he said, hold on, hold on.
He's not done.
He thinks he's got more.
God, where did I see this article?
God, I got to find it.
Where was it?
I saw it, and Pete Carroll was like, oh, yeah, here it is.
This is on 93. 3 uh krj radio
station the fan the fan the bone it's always the fan this is this a couple months ago p carol said
well you know i get that ask i get that question asked a lot so i'm pretty familiar with answering
that i could coach tomorrow i'm physically in the best shape that i've been in a long time i'm
ready to be ready to do all the activities that I'm doing.
I'm feeling really great about it.
He said, I could, but I'm not desiring it at this point, is what he said.
To me, he's in.
We got him.
We got him, folks.
I love Pete Carroll.
We got him.
It'd be a hell of a way to end his football career considering his first head coaching job
was with the New York Jets in 1994 did not go well he was a different man back then
I look at somebody like Pete Carroll yeah because he's respected and he would understand after how
he oversaw the entire Seattle Seahawks operation for so long, he would understand what makes a good GM and what makes a good head coach.
And my take is Trevor,
before we do the whole GM and head coach search thing,
this whole president of football operations thing is I don't think anybody
worth a damn will want to come work for the jets reporting to Woody Johnson.
I just don't.
I think,
and I think that's a really hard reality for a jets fan to swallow but you like this is how it works when you are
on your way to becoming a first-time gm or a first-time head coach in football you are looking
at it and going i this is it right here a lot of guys don't get a second shot no right right so i
gotta make sure where
you're at you gotta believe where you're going you can have success how could you look at the
new york jets right now and think you know what i'm the guy like i i'm and i hope they find that
guy i hope they find the dan campbell and brad holmes that don't give a shit about our awful
recent history and we're gonna tune out all the outside noise and we're going to build it our way
and everything's going to be fine.
And I'll answer to ownership and team president, all these things, and I'll figure it out.
But the reality is even the smartest people or the most confident people will have better
opportunities than that.
And I know that's hard to hear, but now if it's, if you're sitting in a room and Pete Carroll's looking at you and I keep using Pete Carroll, he's an example. There's
probably 10 guys that are qualified for this president job. And they're like, Hey, you come
here. Like, we're going to do this for you, this for you, you're going to handle that. It's just a
more relatable conversation that inspires more confidence that you are going to a place where you could have success?
I mean, look, that's you and I see eye to eye on how we want to build this thing. You went about it a different way than I did. But when I dig into sort of these GM candidates, there are some
that I like more than others because of sort of like of what you said you basically have to have proven winners
as the voices in your front office because right now I think that the two loudest most important
voices in the New York Jets at least when the season started this is how it feels like it
has unraveled was Woody Johnson and Aaron Rodgers and at the beginning of the how it feels like it has unraveled was woody johnson and aaron rogers and at the
beginning of the season it felt like aaron rogers was basically the only voice that mattered that
was talking because woody i don't know this for sure you you probably know better than i do felt
like he wanted to be hands off with all of it and then over the last couple of weeks he just can't
it's like shit has hit the fan he's been been like, okay, well, all right, now I'm getting involved. Happens every time.
Now you're making me get involved with it.
And who you hire as general manager, their voice has to carry more weight than Aaron Rodgers.
And who you hire as head coach has to carry more weight in their voice and their experience than Aaron Rodgers.
And it will be difficult to do that but until that high it always gets messy when the hierarchy and the pyramid gets flipped
when the head coach is there and you hire a gm with the head coach who's already there or the
quarterback's already there and the g and the and and then you hire the head coach. It always gets really messy. And right now, Sala and Douglas were basically, you used the term before, sold their soul to get Aaron Rodgers to come to this team.
And you know who knew it?
Aaron Rodgers.
And that's how you get all these players to come to the team.
And that's how you get all the mess that we've seen.
And again, I don't think that Aaron's doing this on purpose or maybe even egotistically maybe he is but like he just can't help himself right but
it's like aaron's getting the guys that he knew won in green bay right aaron is doing what he
thinks is best for this team but you have to have other voices in there, particularly of the jobs that are your bosses, that can actually be able to fight that and say, no, actually, we're going to go in a different direction.
So that brings me to these general manager candidates, which, by the way, I found a really great article by Albert Breer.
It's on FSI.com, and he lists out a ton of potential general manager
that I kind of like started. That's that was the starting point of what I had here. And I got a
couple of names that I'd love to throw out to you here. I'll get, I'll say the names and I'll give
a little bit of a spark notes. And I think we can talk about it. Um, a little bit afterwards,
John spy tech is one of them. He's the assistant general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Uh, he came up through the scouting department, which is light spread and butter. I mean, light also came up through the scouting department, Jason light, their general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He came up through the scouting department, which is Light's bread and butter.
I mean, Light also came up through the scouting department.
Jason Light, their general manager down in Tampa Bay.
Light has done an incredible job building one of the best, most healthiest rosters in the NFL.
When Tom Brady got there, it wasn't just like, oh, Tom Brady now like shouldered the whole load.
The rest of the team was really damn good before that.
And that's Jason Light.
He's been one of the best drafting GMs over the last four or five years for sure. John Spitek has sort of been his number two. He was ahead of a lot
of the scouting that was going on in Tampa Bay. Now he is the assistant general manager. He has
been for the last couple of seasons. So as Light's number two guy, he is a proven winner. They have
won a Super Bowl together. They have scouted together. It is a proven front office that has
had success every single offseason in a really great way.
I think he would be a great example here.
Ian Cunningham, he's currently with the Chicago Bears.
He interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals two years ago before Monty Austin Port got the general manager job.
He interviewed for the commander's general manager job before, Oh, who got it?
Adam Peters.
Adam Peters.
Adam Peters got it last year,
but he is also somebody who's had a lot of success.
You know, he started his work in the front office
with the Ravens in 2012 when they were on the Super Bowl.
He was also with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017
when they won the Super Bowl.
And now he is with the Chicago Bears
and he's getting multiple looks as a general manager.
So I think that Ian Cunningham from the Bears is somebody who came up
through the talent-building spot that I think is somebody else
that could deserve a look.
Mike Borgonzi from the Kansas City Chiefs is a name that I like a lot.
I'm a big fan.
He has been Veach's number two for many a years now.
He was hired by Scott Pioli back in 2009,
but he rose up through the front office when John Dorsey was there as the general manager.
And then he continued to rise
when Brett Veach became the general manager there as well.
He's got a football background.
He was a fullback and he was an Ivy League guy.
And so he's got that to him as well.
He's been the number two there for a bunch of seasons.
And I really do feel like he,
obviously the Kansas City Chiefs,
you are coming from a winning organization.
You were the number two assistant GM to Brett Veach
and one of the best organizations in the NFL.
You want to talk about a guy whose word would mean a lot?
I feel like resume, at least, Borgonzi's definitely on that list.
Ed Dodds, we have talked about many years before on this show.
He was with the Colts.
He was almost the Raiders GM in 2022 when he went through that cycle.
But he is seen as one of the best talent evaluators in the NFL.
Jake Rosenberg from the Eagles, big contract guy, can really help with the business side of things if that's the way you want to go.
I feel like they've kind of got to go a different direction than that.
And then the other name that I'll throw out there is John Dorsey, who was general manager for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was the general manager for the Cleveland Browns. He has been the senior, what's his official title here?
Senior personnel executive for the Detroit Lions since 2021.
And so I wonder if John Dorsey,
you talk about guys who could be president of football ops,
maybe Dorsey could be that role.
If you can't get like a Pete Carroll to be able to do it.
I mean, he was GM for the Chiefs.
He was a GM for the Browns.
And now over the last three years,
he has been a part of the Lions front office that has built an absolute four bed, four bath
house of a team. It's one of the best in the NFL. So I wonder if, okay, if you don't want him as
your general manager, maybe you could get him to oversee things because he's been a part of a lot
of successful football organizations before. So those are the general managers that I thought of. I think
Borgonzi and Spytek would be my number one and number two guys. As long as the interviews check
out with these guys, their opinions carry weight. They are winners. They are coming from winning
front offices and they understand what it takes to be able to do that. And I think that's the
most important characteristic that I have for a general manager for them. So I'm a big fan of Borgonzi as well.
I think he's somebody that's been waiting for a shot very patiently.
I think he has the right to be selective coming from the organization that
he is,
where they win every year.
He's always going to be a name circulating in GM interview potential.
I believe he's an Ivy league guy.
Like there's,
there's a lot to like their former
fullback yeah from the northeast so i don't think it would be jarring to him you know to
move back to the northeast that does matter to people sometimes uh he's born in massachusetts
i didn't know a lot about spy tech honestly but that's a really interesting name because of the
experience he's had and the
way he's worked his way up and he's with a successful organization that has witnessed the
turnaround right like he's he's been in the end he's been with the bucks for nine years as you
said and light has continuously promoted him in the areas in which light has his background which
i think is really important because we talk about Jason light is one of
the best talent evaluator, general managers,
drafters in the NFL with Mike Greenberg, their cap guy.
They have a very good understanding of what players are worth.
And for spy tech to continually rise up the ranks in the scouting department,
all the way up to assistant GM in light staff particularly means a lot.
And I think that he deserves some looks as general manager next.
Really good name to bring up.
Good call on, you know, Dorsey being a guy that might be,
that might fit the mold of leading the whole search, right?
Where Dorsey's 64 years old now.
He's probably senior personnel executives,
which is what he's been for the Lions now for three years.
It's a great gig for an older scout
because I feel like there's a little bit more freedom
of how you're on the road.
You're not like an area guy all the time
where it's like, I got to go into this school,
this school, this school, drive to this school, this game, that game.
Senior personnel executives typically get to be a voice in the operation.
They're in the draft meetings.
They can go to the senior bowl.
They go to the combine.
They're watching a ton of tape.
But it's at that age, it's probably a lesser grind of the job while still having a voice in the room that really matters.
Right.
So it's, you know, like Phil Savage is one for the Jets right now.
He did all those years of not only working in the NFL
but in the grind of the senior bowl, and now he does that with the Jets.
So if Dorsey was open to leaving that kind of role,
and Dorsey always struck me as a guy that how things ended with the Browns
that I always thought he just
wanted back in. So I wouldn't be shocked if he's looking for a larger voice in an organization.
And the Lions have done such a good job of building their front office and their coaching
staff. You wonder, is he a guy that makes sense of that role we talked about because he has pull
and, you know, one more GM candidate that's really interesting is Ray Agnew with the Lions because he's their assistant
general manager and I've talked to people in league circles and scouting that says he was a
big part specifically of how they built their trenches and if you want to look at how the
Detroit Lions have become a really successful organization and a powerhouse football team
it starts on both sides of the ball in the trenches. After every presser, Dan Campbell mentions,
did we win the rushing attack?
Did we run for more than them?
Did we stop the run?
And Agnew gets a lot of credit for that.
And more of an interesting candidate
because at age 56, he's never been a GM.
He's been in the league forever.
And he's handled a lot of different roles.
He played in the league for a long time too.
So I think he might get some looks if he wants them.
He might not.
He might be happy where he is with the Lions right now.
And ironically, his son is currently a pro scout for the Jets.
That's a really good list you brought up.
Borgonzi is the most attractive option to me.
I think so, too.
Because of the handle he has on personnel for a successful organization
that only cares about winning football games right and the jets needing to get back to those roots
yeah because i mean again like you know when he brings up his opinion and he can start it with
and i i don't think egotistically he would say this but like basically everything he says you
could preface it with well when i was with the with the, you know, multi Superbowl winning Kansas city chiefs,
this is kind of how we did for 16 years. And I think that that's just, it's a, it's,
it's the experience. And just going back to what I was talking about, you've got to get
winners in the building where winning is second nature. This is what we do. There's not pressure
to win. It's just what happens when you are a New York Jet
and they need to establish that culture.
So those are general managers that I would
sort of bring to the table there. If anybody else
knows of any other general managers who may be listening
to this show that they would love to throw out there,
let's hear it in the comments. Would love to do that.
Head coaches as well. It's taking to potential head coaches.
One more note. Yeah, go ahead.
I don't think Ian Cunningham would be an option because
of his relationship with Joe Douglas throughout Baltimore and Philadelphia, but you never know. Yeah, go ahead. I don't think Ian Cunningham would be an option because of his relationship with Joe Douglas
throughout Baltimore and Philadelphia.
But you never know.
Oh, okay.
So, yeah, I didn't think about that one.
Just throwing that out there.
Head coaches?
Good context.
Good context.
Yeah, head coaches.
I'd love to hear from you first here for head coaches.
Is there some,
because the way that we sort of set up
this segment of the show
i thought you did a great job of truthfully saying you've got to take head coaching stints
like this is your only shot and you got to take general manager stance like this is your only shot
ben johnson has said no it's not happening to many teams already. Why would he come to the Jets?
All due respect, why would Ben Johnson come to the Jets?
We will bring him up every single fixture franchise
for every single team needing a head coach.
But for him, I don't really see the need to spend a ton of time on it
because unless the pro football operations and the general
manager are like home run hires and ben johnson goes all right yeah i believe in you guys we're
gonna go in this thing and it's gonna be the three of us and we're gonna rebuild this organization
uh outside of that i i don't see him saying yes to this so i'm curious what other head coaches
you might have on here before i throw a couple at you? Well, it's almost like me throwing it back to you because I'm curious your take on this.
I find the Jets head coaching search so fascinating because I think the best options, there's a conundrum, right?
It feels like if we think they're going to draft a quarterback or eventually draft a quarterback and they want to build this
organization around that player you would want an offensive mind that you're stapling to him
typically they try and the jets are historically a ping pong organization they what i mean by that
is they have rex r loud, brash energy.
Then they hire a defensive guy.
They do hire Todd Bowles, who's a defensive guy,
but totally different demeanor.
Then after having two defensive guys, that didn't work.
Let's go Adam Gase, offensive guy,
who they were talked into by a lot of people and the offensive mastermind.
Well, that didn't work.
Let's get a ceo robert solid
yeah defensive guy but we like him because we think he can lead the entire organization with
his energy like they always go to the different thing so now it feels like now he was a player's
coach do they look for a drill sergeant like mike vrabel right or do they look for an all the up and
coming offensive mastermind i agree with you i I don't put Ben Johnson in this conversation
because I don't know why he would come to the Jets
when he hasn't wanted to go anywhere.
We could easily rule out Bill Belichick.
I don't know why Joe Brady, number one,
I don't know if Joe Brady's ready to be a head coach.
I don't think I wouldn't hire him because I think he's too inexperienced.
I think he would absolutely be swimming upstream with the Jets.
I think the jets
are fascinating because in theory you think they need the young offensive mastermind this feels
like the job where that guy fails no i think they need the old offensive mastermind oh so you need
you think they need some an offensive coach that has experience i think i i brought up p carroll
already i i would absolutely call Pete Carroll.
And again, if we're setting up John Dorsey as the president of football ops,
Mike Borgonzi or John Spy, Texas general manager,
and Pete Carroll as a head coach,
I mean, you got winning football minds right there.
You've got guys who understand and have experience,
many years of experience in this league
knowing what it's like to win and those are guys whose voices speak loudly when when they talk you
have to listen and perhaps that starts a dynamic that's you know too many loud voices too many
bold voices i don't know voices. I don't know.
Right now, I don't feel like we have enough of it with the Jets,
so it's hard for me to say no to many.
But I think Pete Carroll is a candidate.
I think Todd Munkin is a candidate. If you want an offensive-minded head coach, because let me tell you,
Todd Munkin's somebody I've talked to him personally
when he was offensive coordinator of the Buccaneers.
He doesn't give an F, man.
He doesn't care.
Like, he is somebody who understands how to win.
He did it at Georgia.
He did it at, he's done it with the Ravens.
Yeah.
Like, this dude has done it at the highest level.
And the lowest.
I'm more impressed that he turned around
southern miss was a dog shit winless program and he got them to they were one and eleven his first
year because of how in the mud they were they were a nine and five in a bowl game his third year
the last two years that he was at oklahoma state number one number two offenses in all of college
football comes to comes to tampa bay is the offense coordinator and dirt cutter it's one of last two years that he was at Oklahoma State, number one, number two offenses in all of college football. Comes to
Tampa Bay, is the offensive coordinator
in Dirk Cutter. It's one of the best offenses in football.
Goes to Georgia, wins multiple national
championships with Stetson Bennett as his
quarterback. Goes to the Ravens.
Goes to the Ravens, offensive coordinator,
Lamar Jackson, MVP season. Now, I'm not saying
he's the reason for all
of those things, but he's a part of it.
So, Munkin's a guy that I would absolutely have on this list.
I think Cliff Kingsbury is somebody that I would entertain.
Don't think it would go well for Cliff in New York.
Although that is the thing is it's like,
I view Cliff Kingsbury the same as I view Joe Brady.
I think they could be great candidates.
I really do.
But the second stuff starts to not go right, does it fall off the rails?
Do you have enough authority built in, which is, I think, what's, again, so important about this next hire?
I don't think that the guys at the top, Joe Douglas and Robert Sala, had enough authority built in to when it started to not go well, especially a voice
as prominent as Aaron Rodgers wasn't able to take over.
I mean, there's a couple of college guys, right?
Like Matt Campbell from Iowa State.
He was talked about as a potential NFL head coach.
Yeah.
You know, I mean, he's somebody, I guess, that you could say.
Kurt Cignetti is very interesting, the head coach of Indiana, who is, you know, he built
a monster at James Madison, and now he's got Indiana,
their best starting program history.
That'd be unbelievable.
He's a football guy's football guy.
And so, I mean, I'll throw his name out there as well.
Liam Cohen, potentially.
Right.
I think I like Liam Cohen more than I like Joe Brady
and Cliff Kingsbury, actually.
I really like your Munkin.
So he interviewed the year they interviewed Gase.
And I heard there was a lot of people in the organization
that liked him significantly better than Gase.
And Peyton Manning called the Johnsons.
And it was all these people on board with Adam Gase.
It's an inside job.
It was an inside job.
It's an inside job.
And this is why they cannot be running the search again.
Peyton, it was an inside job because Eli was still with the Giants.
It was an inside job.
It was an inside job.
Todd Munkin should have been the coach of the Jets.
Fix this mistake.
I will throw out some offensive coordinator names
because if they want to go with a defense coordinator, I think that people would want to maybe hear some offensive coordinator names. Cause if they want to go with a defense coordinator,
I think that people would want to maybe hear some offense coordinator names
cause it's hard to kind of come up with these. Oh man, who wrote this article?
I want to make sure that I give them credit. I found this one on 33rd team.
It was just a really good resource.
Once again, for some names of,
of position coaches and offensive coordinators are a Meroff are,
are you did a good job writing this and highlighting
some potential future offensive tackle and future offensive coordinator, not offensive tackle. I
mean, they could play tackle, I guess, maybe put on a couple extra pounds, you know, some
anabolic steroids. We'll talk about that on the show. Gerard Johnson, who is the quarterbacks
coach for the Houston Texans. He's worked with CJ Stroud, obviously over the last couple of years,
he interviewed with four different teams last offensive coordinator cycle.
Didn't get a gig, but I think he is somebody who could be an offensive coordinator
if you are going from a position coach to a true play-calling gig
because Bobby Sloek is there now making the play calls.
So maybe you can get him to come over and call plays if you'd like him.
Aubrey Pleasant for the Rams.
He's their pass game coordinator.
Works very closely with Sean McVay.
He actually took over as the acting head coach for one of their preseason games to kind of get
him ready for that kind of ability. And obviously he doesn't call the plays there. Same reason why
he would leave is the same reason why Liam Cohen left when he was the past game coordinator there
because he didn't get to call plays. Brad Idzik with the Panthers, same thing. Idzik was with
Canales when they were down in Tampa Bay with Baker Mayfield.
Idzik, he's young.
He's only 32, but, you know, he's now the offensive coordinator of Carolina.
But, you know, Dave Canalis, he's going to be a play caller.
So maybe you can lure him up and he can be a play caller for you.
So Brad Idzik.
And then the other one, the wild card, Davis Webb.
Yes, that Davis Webb, the former quarterback who is recently in the league as a backup
quarterback, who is now the quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos.
Sean Payton, I think interviewed him off of like a recommendation and he was so blown
away by the interview.
He had like no ties to him at all whatsoever.
And Brian Dayball and Sean McDermott talked so highly of Davis Webb and who he could be
as a coach that Sean Payton interviewed him.
He was like, whoa, okay. All right. And he immediately hired him to be his quarterback's
coach. I think he is somebody who could ascend up the coaching ranks and potentially could want to
call some plays and maybe he could be an offensive coordinator for a defensive head coach if there is
one. So it sounds like after all that, I wanted to give people a lot of names for them to think
about here as they're listening to the show. But I in terms of a blueprint i would i'm with you i would love a
p carol or a john dorsey as a president of football ops i'd love a john spy tech or a or a
mike borghansi as as general manager and then todd munkin is somebody that i pound the table
for as a head coach yep i like it i i would love them to have that hiring power and get that done.
It'd be nice.
All right.
We're going to dig into the roster.
Roster's coming up next.
Before we get to it, when you're hiring for your small business out there,
you got to find quality professionals.
That's what we're trying to do here on the show.

do you want to start with the roster connor dealer's choice here cuts like i yeah i mean
we just do it over yeah i can do them quick i kind of have like key pieces that's perfect i
can do the cuts and you can do
the key pieces okay let me do key pieces yeah that's probably better you you tell me order
you got the you're you've been sharpening the axe i'm like ah
just patrick bateman's 24 hours it's been a really bad 24 hours. All right, so key pieces.
You tell me if I'm missing anybody.
Okay.
Or if I have somebody on the list who doesn't belong on the list.
Aaron Rodgers.
And he's the quarterback this year.
I think he's the quarterback next year.
I don't know, Jim.
It's, uh...
I don't know.
It's up to him.
That's the problem. If it's up to him. That's the problem.
If it's up to him, I think he's back.
You think he's back.
Okay.
I don't think he's going to let this season be his last season in the NFL.
No, I don't either.
I think there's a lot of ballgame left in this one.
Especially with Devontae there.
Yeah.
Well, I didn't get to my cuts list yet.
Interesting.
Okay.
All right.
So key pieces.
I got Aaron Rodgers.
I have Devontae Adams. I got Garrett Wilson. Brees Hall. Right. Elijah Vera Tucker. Right. to my cuts list yet interesting okay all right so key pieces i got aaron rogers i have davante adams
i got garrett wilson breeze hall right elijah vera tucker right ola vachano joe tipman
and that's kind of it for the offense not that that's the only players that they'll keep no
that's right on but that's that's key for the offense and then on defense side of the ball i
got quinnan i have quincy yeah. All pro last year. All right.
Sauce Gardner, Will McDonald,
Jermaine Johnson.
And then I have C.J. Mosley on here.
No? He out?
He's always hurt.
Okay. All right. All right. So taking him off the list.
So those are the key pieces.
Rodgers, Adams, Garrett Wilson, Brie Saul,
Elijah Vera Tucker, Olufshano, Joe Tittman,
Quinton Williams, Quincy Williams,
Sauce Carter, Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson.
Bingo.
Look at me.
I'm a Jets fan.
You did a good job.
That's spot on.
All right, cuts.
Who we got?
So cuts.
Alan Lazard saves you 6.63 million.
Okay.
If Rodgers is not here,
Devontae Adams saves you 30.63 million okay if rogers is not here davante adams saves you 30 million whoa if you're if you're rebuilt like say rogers retires and you're rebuilding you're not gonna
have davante adams on this roster no you're gonna cut him or no you'll trade him i don't think
anybody would take on his deal would have to be redone yeah that's fair and he's what 32 yeah yeah you're probably right you're right cj mosley has a post june 1st cut to save four mil
it's not really about saving the four mil as it is it just seems over it by age 33 i think yeah
i didn't realize you were 33 yeah bummer he will be and it's hard it's hard to like even if he's not
totally washed if a guy keeps getting hurt for you it's hard to go into the next year being like
okay this is our middle linebacker right and then he misses a bunch of time you don't want that
either thomas morstead punter 2.6 million and say what gone is he cheeks no it's just i'll find a
i'll find a punter for cheap.
I'll save the money.
Is Greg Zerline still on the team?
Greg Zerline, 2.46 million.
If he's off the team next year,
he should be off the team in the next 30 minutes
as we sit here and record this.
Yeah.
Thanks, Greg.
I don't think he can be, I mean.
He shouldn't have been the kicker this week.
It's malpractice.
He can't be the kicker going into Thursday night football.
No.
Jeff Ulbrich said today that they're going to work out some people at the stadium and the best guy is going to be their kicker thursday night what does that even mean like
it's the it's like the invincible script honestly i'm just opening up the stadium
it really is one huge regret be broken down afterwards after running a 4.540.
I have a giant regret in life.
And that is when I was younger, not dedicating a lot of time to becoming good.
Not great, because I think there's genetics involved.
But good at kicking.
Not that I'd play in the NFL.
Let me make this very clear.
Or even a spring league.
Or maybe even college.
But that I was good enough that I can go to places and kick.
Like I can take a video of myself or my agent takes a video of me kicking
and it looks like a 35-yard, 30-yard field goal.
And I get to go try out for the Jets for Thursday night.
I wouldn't be their kicker.
But you get tryouts for things.
I can hit a 30-yard field goal right now.
And you have a little bit of a soccer background too, don't you?
Correct.
Oh, so I can hit a 30-yard field goal right now.
Dude, we got to do something with this.
I can walk outside and hit a 30-yard field goal.
Is there going to be a spring league this year?
Yeah, yeah.
We got to get you a tryout. We got to get you a tryout.
We got to get you a tryout.
You are better than Greg the Leg right now.
He can't make an extra point.
Now, okay.
Right.
Now, you know, I was going to, you know, save myself a little bit here.
You get it like 35 plus.
I probably can't even get it there.
But, like, from 30 yards in, I can make the damn field goal.
I can hit it.
Man, see, that's what I wish I had because I would go see if I could try out places.
Not go anywhere with it, but just, yeah, you know what?
Let's go spend a day at MetLife Stadium and kick.
You can do it.
You know, I'm not doing anything tomorrow.
I'll book the one-way ticket.
We got to get you up here.
We got to get you up here.
I got to book the one-way ticket, though.
You know, confidence.
Yeah, I'm not going back.
Yeah, when the New York media interviews me and they're like, oh, would like oh would you i'd be like yeah i booked a one-way ticket because i
had no confidence in myself that would be the best thing ever for this podcast if you were just
living with me in new york and you were kicking for the jets for two weeks it'd be unbelievable
i'd be i would be so nice to you on jets post game too even if you went over three
i'd be like well let's be fair to him he's never played in the nfl before all right all right all right yeah i go over three in the first
game and you wouldn't be hard on me but then the second game when i went one for three this is also
the game you'd be like look at this dude this dude's out here like he's got he's he's he's got
to get off these podcasts and he's got to focus on making kicks. Podcasting instead of worrying about kicking.
And that's why the Jets are now 2-9.
So, yeah, Greg DeLegge, you're out, 2.46 million.
Michael Clemens, my last cut to save 1.1 million.
I went deep on this, clearly.
Yeah, and then, so free agents we got for this team.
Hassan Reddick's technically a free agent, right?
He hadn't signed, like, a long-term deal. Yeah, he's a free agent. Okay, so he's aan Reddick's technically a free agent, right? He hadn't signed a long-term deal.
Yeah, he's a free agent. Okay, so he's a free agent.
DJ Reed's a free agent. That's a tough
one. Mike Williams is a free agent.
Tyron Smith's a free agent. Morgan Moses
is a free agent. And then you got
Kinlaw and Thomas, Chuck Clark.
I would bring back Morgan Moses
for sure. Okay.
I would want that right tackle
solved and Olu's's gonna slide into left tackle
okay after that the only guy you could even make an argument for but i'm just not into paying
corners that are approaching 30 is dj reed he's played really well this year and he's a good
player and he's a heart and soul guy but i'm not bringing back anyone besides morgan moses
they might i i definitely i definitely understand where you're coming from anyone besides Morgan Moses.
They might.
I definitely understand where you're coming from, but they'll probably have
the money for it, especially if they're
cutting the players that they're cutting.
Dude, they have $50 million in cap space without
those cuts. Right. They got $50 million, which is
18th in the NFL. Then if you throw in
some of the cuts, obviously the Devontae Adams cut,
you're basically like top five in the NFL.
Which is nuts. In free agency money that you would have to spend. Soae Adams cut, you're basically like top five in the NFL. Which is nuts.
In free agency money that you would have to spend.
So at that point, you could probably bring back DJ Reed.
If you really wanted to.
But other than that, is there any?
So like team needs now at this point, quarterback maybe.
It's up in the air.
And then quarterback and then cornerback.
Those are two that are sort of up in the air depending on what
happens with reed and rogers right then i have defensive tackle i had offensive tackle in here
i guess you you think morgan mose is playing well enough to where you could bring him back
and you feel good about him and olu yeah i'd rather not create another hole at offensive tackle. So then defensive tackle, tight end,
because Tyler Conklin is a free agent.
He's a free agent.
And then, I mean, what else would you have as the needs?
Quarterback, I have quarterback and corner sort of like,
depending on what happens, and then defensive tackle and tight end.
It goes back to the old narrative around this team.
This isn't a bad roster.
They're just playing so below expectations and horribly coached.
Right.
But their front needs a makeover.
Like, Quinnen's going to be here.
Jermaine will be coming off the Achilles.
And they miss Jermaine a lot.
The rest of it stinks, besides Will McDonald,
who's a pure pass rusher and having a really good year rush in the passer.
He is not a run defender.
Yeah, they would need some depth.
I need a big, beefy body to play next to Quinnen.
Yeah, who do we got here?
Two gapping presence that could stop the run.
Who's going to be a free agent?
And then I would probably want another edge rusher
that could rotate between Jermaine and McDonald.
All right.
BJ Hill is a free agent.
Josh sweat.
Maybe,
maybe I don't hate that.
As that third edge rusher.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh,
fully food of Kasi.
He'll be almost 30.
Yeah.
It was good for the jets for a while.
I was going to say like, he could be an option if you want to be almost 30. Yeah, he was good for the Jets for a while. I was going to say, like, he could be an option
if you want to bring him back.
Coyne Jefferson.
He was also good for the Jets once upon a time.
I was going to say, he's 31 and a half, though.
I'm just looking at potential free agents,
like guys that you can bring in.
Jerry Tillery's playing.
Our boy Roy Lopez.
Roy Lopez? Could? could dude that'd be awesome
they need to draft a d tackle really badly for sure but i think that certainly if you're letting
kinlaw and solomon thomas walk as well oh man you got like depth guys like uh trishawn wharton from
kansas city if they aren't't giving him a pretty penny,
I think that he's played well this season.
I think you can put him in.
They have a great run defense.
Who, Kansas City?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The Jets do not.
He's a decent option.
Levi and Wazirike's playing well.
I don't know if Detroit's going to be...
I don't know if they have the money to sign him.
They just paid Aleem McNeil, right?
They did. They just paid a lean mcneil right they did they just paid him oh puna ford's available too oh man i've i've wanted them to sign puna for like three years
just to sit his big butt right in the middle of the gaps and just eat up all that space i don't Don't know if the Chargers are going to let him walk. He feels very Harbaugh guy now.
Yeah.
It's hard.
Ooh, Mike Pinnell.
Oh, he's 33, though.
Another Jets legend.
It's amazing how crappy their run defense
and all these guys that you're looking at are solutions next year.
They let walk out the door.
You know, when you put it that way it's depressing
it is indeed depressing all right so i mean like those are a couple of options that i think are
decent for them dj jones maybe from denver although he might be a little bit more expensive
than you're looking to spend depending on how much cap space you have i don't think like that
that's probably the area that you would attack in free agency though right yes defensive line
and then they that if you don't bring back chuck clark you're you have nothing at safety That's probably the area that you would attack in free agency though, right? Yes. Defensive line.
And then if you don't bring back Chuck Clark, you have nothing at safety.
Yeah, let's look at safety.
Buddha, I think, is a free agent.
Buddha's 29.
He'll be a free agent.
Justin Simmons will be a free agent again at age 32.
Justin Reed.
Jeremy Chin is a fine player.
He'll be a free agent.
Yeah, it's actually my dart throw would be Jeremy Chin.
Okay.
All right. And I think that Jeremy Chin is playing better now that he's with Quinn.
Okay, so I like this.
All right, so it's not super splashy signings.
And we're not trying to do that with this team, right?
It's not like the Raiders, I don't think.
All right, so let's go Jeremy Chin, Roy Lopez, obviously.
Got to have it for the vibes.
And then what was the other defensive lineman we might want?
It was a couple we named.
Obviously, Puna was interesting.
Oh, yeah, Puna Ford.
I like him.
Okay, so let's do that.
Let's do Roy Lopez, Puna Ford and jeremy chin to switch up the vibes
on the defensive side of things is there a corner do they have some do they have somebody that they
would feel good about i'm really interested to see if quantas stiggers can works out works out
okay and then uh brandon eckles is a free agent but they really like when he fills
in for them i know he had a tough game against pittsburgh but okay you could bring him back on
a one-year deal and let him and cuantes kind of fight it out to start okay all right i don't hate
that and you gotta like they paid michael carter in the slot. They have sauce.
Yeah, if anything, they're probably going to draft one then.
You're going to get young at that third corner.
Yeah, I think you're probably right.
I think you're probably right, which takes us into the draft.
Is there any other free agents?
Because you're right.
This wasn't a free agent.
When we were talking about fixing these teams, I said to you, I was like, was like man with the jets like we're not going to do a lot for free agency because one if rogers doesn't come
back this is a rebuilding team two if he does come back well the pieces that they have on offense
like that it's not a talent problem it's a coaching and execution execution problem yeah
yeah all right so a little recap of the roster before we get into the mini mock draft the mini three round mock draft which yes they still have three selections
because they traded one of their third round picks for davante adams doesn't look like that's
going to become a second round pick no and so they have that pick from the detroit lions which they
traded last year uh during the draft so they were able to get an extra third round pick from them so
they do still have three picks and we'll get to that in a second but key pieces rogers davante adams garrett wilson uh brie saul elijah vera tucker olu pashano joe timmon on the
offensive side of the ball we're going to make any free agent additions there we got quinn and
williams quincy williams sauce gardner uh will mcdonald and um and jermaine johnson we're cutting
a handful of veterans we're letting those guys walk maybe you bring back dj reed but it doesn't
sound like it you're bringing back morgan moses so he's going to start at the offensive tackle spot oliver
shano is going to start at the other um if you don't bring chuck clark back jeremy chin somebody
that we would target a free agency and along the defensive line ken law thomas uh michael clemens
those guys you're probably moving on from all of them so you're looking at guys like puna ford
uh a roy lopez players like that to be able to help out the interior along with Quinton Williams.
And then maybe, maybe, just maybe, we'll draft a guy on the defensive line too in a second.
But look, a lot of crazy stuff that's been going on this football season.
It's about to be a really interesting time with the trade deadline.
It's already starting to heat up.
There's all sorts of things that you've got to do to pay attention to everything that's going on in the NFL.
This season, in order to do do so we're listening to a new
podcast called the offensive line with Annie Hagar.
Annie's NFL insider.
You probably know her from her uncomfortable team meetings on social
series that you'll see on Tik TOK on Instagram,
on Twitter,
all that good stuff that she kicks it back with the NFL stars,
celeb super fans every single week throughout the season to unpack the
weekly lines,
odds spreads with the usual brand of sharp wit and banner that you love from
her content pods pack with all sorts of humor. It's a must listen to keep up with the
latest in NFL news and culture. You can follow the Offensive Line podcast on the Wondery app or
wherever you guys get your podcasts. You can also listen to bonus episodes ad-free right now by
joining Wondery Plus. I forgot to say this, but obviously I would love for you guys to shout out any other
free agent targets you are hoping the jets could target if you think they're going to be a lot more
active or if you think there's somebody out there that they would trade for let us know in the
comments it's best way to do that as we fire up the pff mock draft simulator here the new york
football jets currently picking number four overall unbelievable Unbelievable. How did this happen?
It's tough.
It's tough.
It's a bad scene.
But we're going to get through it together.
So if you don't have a PFF subscription,
you can go get one at pff.com.
It's PFF plus subscription.
You can download,
or you can unlock all five rounds
of the mock draft simulator.
We're only going to three rounds,
you know,
because we could be here for years
if we end up going to five
with the conversations that we have.
So let's fire this bad boy up.
Okay, entering in with the Jets here.
We got three selections.
Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, and the New England Patriots
are the three teams that are picking ahead of the Jets.
Trading up, trading down?
I just have to ask.
Just have to ask.
Well, how are we doing this scenario?
Is Aaron Rodgers here or not?
Because that, like, totally changes the entire draft to me.
You know what that says to me, brother? We says to me brother we're doing two we're doing two boom all right so we're we're doing we're
doing two mock drafts here the first one we will do with Aaron Rodgers on the team so Aaron Rodgers
is on the team and like you said it also sounds like Devontae Adams would then still be on the team.
So, firing up the draft.
Off the board, we have Jalen Miller going No. 1 overall
to the Carolina Panthers.
Travis Hunter going No. 2 overall to the Tennessee Titans,
and then Tetra Owen McMillan, the wide receiver from Arizona,
going No. 3 to the New England Patriots.
Puts the Jets on the clock at No. 4.
Aaron Rodgers is still here.
Devontae Adams is still here.
And on the board, most importantly, Mason Graham from Michigan is still here.
What do you think?
I think we got to take Mason Graham, right?
It's just him or Will Johnson.
Yeah, I would take Mason Graham.
Their front is so bad against the run.
They're not really rushing the passer that well.
They're looking for the Robinin to quinn's batman yeah
i i thought about trading this pick with rogers here but i want the impact player that can really
turn around your defensive front i didn't love free agency for the d line i thought we got some
complimentary pieces but man i'm i'm taking mason graham i the more i think about it the more i love it
him playing next to quinn and oh it's it's the good stuff it's if your front is jermaine
quinn and mason graham will mcdonald you're living pretty good yeah yeah you're getting
back to the glory days pretty damn quick at that point you know and if you trade back
yeah you could probably get a corner at that point if you trade back, but Graham's going to be off the board pretty quick.
You need a blue chip player in this spot.
It's amazing how all of a sudden I want the Jets to lose out.
Not really, but you get it.
I see Graham.
Most games, those are tough.
So he goes in the first round there.
36.
What position are you looking at?
Corner?
What are we looking at here?
We could be a little flexible here.
We still need another pass rusher, too.
From the edge?
Yeah.
All we have is Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson coming off an Achilles.
Damn, James Pierce Jr. went one pick ahead of us. Oh that would have been not although it's tough to take pierce when you
already have mcdonald yeah i guess they are kind of same guy you kind of need that and we could we
could do this in the third round too let's look at the board all right here so i gotta watch more
kamari ramsey i've watched a ton of bowman already because safety is on the at play here too ramsey
ramsey started off the season hot I thought
he I thought he played really well against LSU he played really well against Wisconsin as well
uh he's bounced back a little bit here the Michigan game particularly and and the uh the
Minnesota game he did struggle a little bit the run defense grade you want that grade to be a lot
higher but the coverage grades in 84.4 I lovesey's instincts. I think he's a future NFL starter.
I really like him.
Wyatt Milam is still here.
I might take Milam or...
I like a lot of guys on the board for the Jets right now.
Because if you bring back Morgan Moses,
but he's, what, 33, 34 years old,
you're still thinking of your right tackle of the future.
This is true.
Sebastian Castro gives them a little feistiness downhill,
but they paid Michael Carter to play the slot,
so Castro would have to play true safety.
I don't love that.
Jadae Barron is somebody that I would—
Okay, talk me into Jadae Barron here.
I'd sort of pound the table for him here
because I really like him as a football player.
He was one of my guys in last year's class.
He's been balling this year.
Even better this year.
89.4 overall grade.
He started off as a safety slash slot corner hybrid for the Texas Longhorns over the last two years.
Now he has transitioned to outside cornerback, and he is still playing very, very well.
I'm not going to lie.
I did not know how he was going to fare as an outside
corner he has an elite 90.1 coverage grade so far this season he is playing really well so he is
somebody who I think could play safety for the Jets I think he could play slot corner for the
Jets and he could play outside corner for the Jets so this is a fun pick I like the versatility on
the back end now this is the draft with Aaron Rod, so we could assume Devontae Adams is back,
so we don't need to take a wide receiver here.
So, yeah, Jaday Barron, you talked me into Jaday Barron in that spot.
I like his versatility on the back end for the defense
that they have a question at outside corner when Reed walks.
They have a question at free safety.
That's a guy that's played both.
Okay. All right.
I'm glad I sold you on it because Judea Barron's my guy.
So we'll take him at 36.
And then we have one more selection.
It is the Lions pick here in the third round.
All right.
Garrett Nussmeyer, Carson Beck still on the board.
I think both those guys might be gone by this point.
Quinn Ayers still on the board.
I have no idea with Quinn at this point, honestly.
Wide receiver Jalen Royals. Parker Brailsford, don't need him. Don't need Jonah Monheim as well. a quinn airs still on the board i have no idea with quinn at this point honestly um wide receiver
gianna royals parker brailsford don't need him don't need jonah monheim as well those two centers
i think they're two better centers in the class but you got joe tintman so you don't really need
that takario davis is interesting from arizona but we oh yeah we took a corner yeah we just took
jd baron i forgot oh i like i like armand shreed adams not bad oh you oh you think about royals but we, oh yeah, we just took a corner. Yeah. We just took today. Baron. I forgot. Ooh,
I like my sweet Adams.
Not bad.
Oh,
you,
oh,
you think about Royals because he cut Lazard.
Yeah. No matter that Rogers is still here.
You're still cutting Lazard.
Yep.
You have Garrett and Devante,
but the Corley pick is not working out right now.
You're going to,
you're playing with like,
you need another wide receiver.
When you cut Lazard,
Mike Williams is a free agent. So I, i like royals a lot in this spot he's one of he's one of my like one
of my guys in this draft royals okay him and ricky white the two smaller receivers kairon lacy's here
lacy's really interesting in that spot too i like lacy more than i like Royals in my most recent wide receiver update.
That'll reflect that.
But I do like both players.
You're more of a Jalen Royals guy, I feel like.
Or at least he's somebody that you enjoy.
So I have no problem taking him here.
I would take, I'd take Lacey, but I don't got either problem.
These guys are very close.
I would say it's really close for me.
Lacey was a stock up guy for me a couple of weeks ago.
I know you've been on him even earlier than me i love cayman rucker by the way i'm so happy to see him
healthy he kicked the shit out of somebody the other week he's been he was hurt to start the
year oh yeah virginia virginia the tape is insane he destroyed virginia i know he was he's been
banged up this year he was one of my summer favorites.
I hope he stays on the rise here.
Edge rusher from North Carolina, by the way. Yeah, we'll be talking about him a lot more.
Yeah, Lacey or Royals.
I mean, either one.
Getting that third wide receiver in this spot would be pretty key for me.
I wonder if Lacey is going higher at this point.
Right.
You almost kind of wonder.
I feel like Lacey has a chance to be gone at this point.
I think Royals will be a third round pick.
Yeah.
So, okay, let's go Royals here.
All right.
So we'll go Royals.
So that means the three round mock draft for the Jets with Aaron Rodgers still on the team.
We picked Mason Grant.
Oh, look at this.
Look at A- draft.
Oh, my God.
We're the Kings of New York.
We run Florham Park.
We took Mason Graham at number four.
We took Jadae Barron, the corner from Texas, in the second round at 36.
And then Jalen Royals, the wide receiver from Utah State.
So this is a with Aaron Rodgers draft right here.
And I'm not going to lie, Connor.
Certainly with the GMm the head coach additions
that we talked about there some of the free agent additions gonna be tough to beat this
this is a really good one gonna be really good one by the way you're not drafting a quarterback
because tyrod taylor is on a two-year deal so you already have your backup for next year jordan
travis is still on this team they want to see what he has so you're you can't roster another
like that's why we didn't consider any of those guys there okay all right so let's go to all right that can
change without Aaron Rodgers Aaron Rodgers not on the team okay so are we also assuming Devontae
Adams not on the team yes okay he's cut to save 30 million dollars so are we probably thinking
that a wide receiver will be coming to the jets or no with free agent money
maybe like a depth guy hold on okay so not like it's not like a okay this is a star
100 100 like star like somebody like a t higgins right right no rule out t higgins okay
i would be looking in the bracket oh yeah it gets ugly quick i mean you're looking at like uh oh man it gets real
i've realized some of these guys are rfas yeah i don't i don't think so okay all right that's fine
which opens the door that you know you could rework if rogers retires and you're you devante
wants to stay you could figure out a reworkeded deal. Because if you have a young quarterback, like, cool,
I get to throw to Garrett Wilson and Devontae Adams.
Right.
So it can go both ways.
All right.
So in this mock draft scenario, again, Aaron Rodgers is at least off the team.
Maybe Devontae is on the team.
We'll, you know, revision his history when we get done with whatever this mock draft is.
Jalen Melrose once again went number one overall to the Carolina Panthers.
If you're confused, it's because I had Melrose QB1, and the Panthers need a QB. They're picking number one overall. So that's how the mock draft is. Jalen Melrose once again went number one overall to the Carolina Panthers. If you're confused, it's because I had Melrose QB one and the Panthers
need to QB. They're picking number one overall. So that's how the mock draft simulator works.
Travis Hunter going number two to the Tennessee Titans once again, but Tetrao and McMillan
not selected here at number three. It is Mason Graham who goes off the board at number three.
So the Jets are here at number four. If Devontaeams is on this team tat is sick tetra mcmillan and
garrett wilson is a sick duo it's pretty awesome it's pretty awesome but you probably need a
quarterback right there's the real issue and cam ward is still sitting here for you i'm i'm taking
cam ward okay all right now it's annoying because i'd love to trade this pick and build out the roster
but if you believe in a guy you believe in a guy and cam ward is the guy i believe in the most in
this draft by a pretty good margin by the way for me like i i know everybody's got this wide pool
of quarterbacks i i'm each day goes by and i am more and more cam ward or else I'll kick that
can down the road to next year.
I'm good.
I know there's going to be a lot of people that love Shador and love Quinn
and Milrose talent,
which I see all of it.
I'm not like adamantly against it,
but this is the fourth overall pick in the fucking draft,
man.
Like you're either,
you either think the guy is the guy and you're right or you're fired.
There's no other option.
So, yeah, I'll take Cam Ward.
All right, so we're taking Cam Ward to play under Todd Munkin
in Todd Munkin's offense.
I mean, that's pretty wicked.
That's going to be fun as hell.
And you got two guys that you can't tell them nothing.
No.
No, that's going to be fun as hell.
Especially, again, especially if Devontonta Adams is still on the team.
I mean, yeah, that gets fun.
I'm into it.
I'm really into it.
And man, let's let's be real.
Like Cam Ward in that having Tyrod Taylor in that quarterback room.
That's I don't think there's a veteran you'd want more than him.
Yeah, that's good.
36.
We're back up on the clock in the second round.
James Pierce Jr. is still here.
But you did talk about how OK, do you want Will McDonald and James Pierce on the clock in the second round james pierce jr is still here but you did talk
about how okay do you want will mcdonald and james pierce on the same team eh maybe not
billy bowman is still here if we wanted to add this uh safety kamara ramsay what'd you say i
think we need some beef all right uh uh the godfather dante corleone is here the godfather
is there okay all right are you ready for this uh i i was going to
i don't think this player is in the simulator yet i watched omar norman lot from tennessee
okay he's our defensive we've got some tweets about him he's my dt2 now oh hello he's good man 6-3 315 defense to run well explosive as hell great leverage doesn't even
have like a great pass rush plan yet but all the tools are there he had it dude he had a cross chop
bend around the edge i can't even remember what i think it was oklahoma against oklahoma where i
went excuse me what how's that possible so he played at arizona state for three years
and he's been at tennessee the last two years really coming on this year i think he's super
underrated in this class i think he's going to be one of my guys certainly one of the guys that i
feel like i'm higher on than most um i would take him here okay i would take him let's rock and roll
i don't have him in the simulator yet. Because I just watched him. Because I just watched him.
I don't think.
I do not think I have him in the simulator yet.
All right, so.
No, I don't.
I don't.
That's okay.
But I would take him here.
I would take him here.
So let's go with the same thought process and take a defensive tackle.
Who's on the board besides the Godfather?
Just so I have full range.
So I recently did new rankings for interior defensive linemen. And the biggest change that I would have is I have Tyleek Williams, TJ Sanders, and I rewatched Walter Nolan.
He's so much better this year.
Yeah, we talked about that a lot.
So much better this year.
He was on our all midseason-season draft yes yes so i would take either walter nolan tyreek williams or tj sanders so i
wouldn't take no one as much as i like him because i i need somebody that can really hold the point
of attack against that's ty leak then it is ty Ty Leak is who I thought of right away here. Okay. All right.
Now, obviously, we're going with Tennessee's Omar Lott, right?
Omar Norman-Lott.
So it's Norman Lott.
Norman Lott.
Yeah.
So that would be the actual pick, but Ty Leak also fits the bill.
100%.
Yes.
Yes.
It really fits the bill.
I'm totally cool with Ty Leak.
Look at Ty Leak's run defense grade
you can't move him
he's a monster he's huge
I have a fun third round pick that also
might not be in the simulator yet but is going to be
there soon I'm curious
so now we take Ty Leak
alright 68
who's the fun pick
do we have Mike Green from Marshall yet
the edge rusher I don't think I have him in here.
Okay, so that's a name to keep an eye on here.
He's on the list for next week.
Yeah, he'll be a really good pass rusher to take in this spot.
Is he a real strappo?
We're going to go somewhere.
Reunite?
I mean, it's actually not insane at all, by the way,
because they need another receiver.
This is kind of interesting. Let's see.
This is kind of interesting.
Davis makes sense.
Big corner in this spot.
Has Davis played better lately?
He has not really had a great year.
No, he has not.
We're in the third round at least.
Yeah.
Let's keep going.
We'll keep looking.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
Let's keep scrolling.
Maxwell Harrison, I like as well.
Yeah.
Corner from Kentucky.
Ooh, Tyler.
Ooh.
Oh, done, done, done.
They don't have a tight end besides Rucker.
Tyler Warren.
Done.
I don't know if he's going to last to 68.
But it's not egregious to say right now.
No.
It's tight end.
We do this every year with tight end.
Hey, you know what?
It's our show.
We can do whatever we want.
Yeah, we can do whatever we want.
That's the best part.
All right, Ty Warren.
He might not be here. But honestly, it's our show we can do whatever yeah we can do whatever we want that's all right all right ty warren he might not be here but honestly it's a great tight end class
so like if he's not there gunner helm from texas right mason from lsu uh eli stowers oh my god
we're getting devoured by the the grades yeah it's just because i think uh yeah it's like where i
have them listed versus like where they're getting picked you know, we'll have to have a talk
with whoever the lead draft analyst is
over at Pro Football Focus.
But okay, if Aaron Rodgers is not on the team,
Cam Ward, Tyleek Williams, Tyler Warren,
and if Aaron Rodgers is on the team,

It has set entirely.
Now it is nighttime and the jets are fixed and we will come out of the
darkness tomorrow.
