Remember, Nightcap doesn't happen without you, so please subscribe or you're going to make Ocho cry. Darrell Morey also felt the need to talk about the Lakers' 2020 title today.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Morey said, Had the Rockets won the title, I absolutely would have celebrated as legitimate, knowing the immense effort and resilience required. Yet everyone speaking around the league probably agrees that it doesn't truly hold up as a genuine championship. Perhaps the last legacy of the NBA bubble is that the NBA should be proud of his leadership at both the beginning and the end of the pandemic, even through the champion will forever be marked by an asterisk. There are more. You should be the last one to talk after what you almost blew up
Starting point is 00:03:00 by saying what you said about China and you got your buses. You got your butt up out of there? Now see, everybody talks about, well, it's an asterisk because you didn't win it. Now you just said, I absolutely would have celebrated as legitimate, knowing the immense effort and resilience that it took to do it.
Starting point is 00:03:21 But now because you didn't win it, it's an asterisk. It's an asterisk do it. Yeah, but now because you didn't win it It's a everybody So is there a story about a strikes or short year? What you that was 99? 9 yeah, 99. So is that's about that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What about 2012 2012 was a strike show Did you know didn't y'all when y'all short in the 2020 12 Joe? Yeah, yeah Yeah, he put that asher by their bubble He didn't we think it pretty absolutely, but I honestly think I didn't think it was an advantage to anybody playing in the bubble
Starting point is 00:04:02 You know what I mean? Like I wouldn't put no Astrid by, you know, because nobody- It's probably harder, Joe. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying no, I don't know if it was harder than either. I don't feel like, cause you took away a lot of the elements of traveling, playing in altitude environments, things of that sort.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Like we all right here. What about you couldn't go nowhere? No fans. Yeah, I mean, I know that's hard. I knew that was hard. You know what I'm saying? I'll tell you what I'm gonna do, Joe. I'm gonna put you in your house for 100 days
Starting point is 00:04:33 and all you can do is go to your backyard and come home. You can't do nothing else. How much money I'm making? Whatever the playoffs pay you. Okay, so I'm making, oh you're saying just the playoff. Yeah, that's what they get. They don't get no extra money. They get what the playoff pay. Alright, yeah. Hey, hey, look, I wasn't locked, obviously, you know, I played in TBT.
Starting point is 00:04:56 It wasn't, it wasn't nowhere near as being locked in for 90 days or how many days. Those guys were locked in. I played in TBT and it was a quarantine environment. We was locked in a hotel for like seven, about 10 days. So I know the challenges that the dudes had to go through, but I'm saying I don't think it should be an asterisk. Like I think everybody was- No, absolutely not. Yeah, no, I think everybody-
Starting point is 00:05:18 Think about the pandemic itself, Joe. People are losing their mind. They couldn't go nowhere, Ocho. No. You couldn't go to a real you couldn't go sit inside a restaurant or you couldn't go to a club or you couldn't do now I don't know how it was in some places but I happen to be in Cali at the time and when I say Cali shut it down Cali shut it down now I know Georgia shut it down for a week Florida shut it down for 10 days. Well, listen, the- Georgia wasn't shut down,
Starting point is 00:05:45 but they were getting cool with that out here. You hear me? Yeah. Yeah. Okay, okay. Go ahead, Ocho. Listen, it was easy for them, especially during that time,
Starting point is 00:05:53 it was easy for the people that don't actually, that don't be outside. Yeah. I didn't go anywhere anyway, so when the pandemic happened, listen, I chose that time to catch up on some stuff. Yeah. Netflix, movies I hadn't seen. You know, I would tweet, what should I watch?
Starting point is 00:06:08 Hell, I ain't see The Wire. You know, I was, was I playing during that time? No, I think, I think I might've forgotten where you were. I had never seen The Wire. The people told me to watch The Wire. I watched Ozark. I caught up on all type of stuff on Netflix. That was good. I had a bunch of cigars with me. I had my little coffee machine. Hell, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I caught up on all type of stuff on Netflix. That was good.
Starting point is 00:06:25 I had a bunch of cigars with me. I had my little coffee machine. Hell, I didn't need to go nowhere. Everything I needed was right here. And then I got my game. And he's like, everywhere I go. Go ahead, Joe, go ahead. Do y'all think that the COVID times, it really changes?
Starting point is 00:06:41 Cause think about this. You know, you had your homeboys or your friends, how about they wanna come over and you don't know where they done been? You like, hold on. No, you know, you had your homeboys or your friends, how about they want to come over and you don't know where they done been. You like, hold on. No, no, you can't go over here with all that. You know what I mean? And then since it's been over,
Starting point is 00:06:53 a lot of us are still kind of. Hey, Pound, hey, hey, hey, how you do? Bro. Just pound it. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Even now, to this day, I'm like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Derrick Morris said, yeah, everyone I speak to around the league probably agrees that it truly doesn't hold up as a genuine championship. So did you ask people around the league what they thought about what you said about China? Ask them what they genuinely think about how you almost blew it up. Right. Right. Oh, you know what? Let me tell you why that because LeBron James won it.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Anybody, any other superstar had a one that championship Joe Johnson. You and I both know it to be legit. It was because LeBron James won it. It ain't legit. You think that's whyron James won it, it ain't legit. You think that's why a lot of people put that action? Yeah. Yes, absolutely. Michael, Kobe, Larry, Magic, Steph, anybody else.
Starting point is 00:08:00 And that's what I asked to be, I said, okay. Y'all say, well, cause you said that LeB I asked to be I said, okay y'all say well cuz you said that LeBron came to LA to be a 6-8 Kevin Hart He came to be a movie came to win an Oscar as opposed to a Larry O'Brien trophy Okay, he comes out here. He plays he wins Now so what what's what's dark? What's the debate had anybody else done that I say, now y'all say that's what he did. I say, now, oh man, Jordan was past his prime. Jordan, I say, let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Had Jordan won the NBA title, would y'all say he won seven or would he have just won six? Y'all say y'all gave him seven. But because he didn't win, oh, he wasn't even trying to win. Yes, he was I thought that enjoyed everything. George tech was serious The reason why they did it like this is because lebron won had anybody else won They're not calling it a bubble championship. They're not calling it saying an asterisk needs to be added. They wouldn't do it
Starting point is 00:09:03 Right, even darryl morris. Even darryl mor more is trying to diminish the man. I guarantee you take it. I Can't do you take it you need to worry about feeling? That's what you need to do all that money. I Tell you what pull another season like you had this year and see what happened to you Well, he don't know what they gonna do to him here general manager, you know, he's John Harris is the only Okay, you think they have I am Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Starting point is 00:09:32 Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh 300 million damn They owe our gay Tyrese maxi a max deal. They got a Paul George on a max deal Maxi nice if Paul Paul knee knee ankle, whatever whatever it is if he come back healthy, they're gonna be alright
Starting point is 00:09:54 Don't get healthy as you get older Hmm, I think he just had another procedure too. Hmm Damn yeah. Hey, I wish I could give all them boys my limbs and legs man and arms and then Achilles and knees I just am and I hate seeing people get injured man It's so what I ask you. Hello Who asked him this? Everybody just feel like it really talking to move today is you. Everybody was talking to me today. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Bro, it's 2025. They just got the new package. Amazon. Somebody. Amazon just got 77 billion. 76 billion. Amazon got a package. NBC got a package.
Starting point is 00:10:41 ESPN got a package. They're about to make money at the yin-yang. And you talking about 2025 Why Yeah, I Promise you nobody in the history of the game has received more criticism than LeBron James If it was crazy But cuz he's no matter what you thought about him, man, I think he's going to be good.
Starting point is 00:11:08 He's exceeded all expectations. No matter what you thought he might be, he's exceeded everything. Nobody, people say, ain't nobody going to break Kareem's record because first of all, you're not going to play long enough and you're not going to be consistent enough. He did that. Man, ain't nobody going to you're not gonna be consistent enough. He did that. Man, ain't nobody gonna get no 19 All-Star games. He got 21. Man, ain't nobody gonna be no all NBA all those times.
Starting point is 00:11:32 He got 21. 13 first teams. But I just don't get it. He go out. Man, listen. Ocho, y'all know when you been at the top for so long. Oh, yeah, they gotta start. They gotta start picking at you, bro they got they gotta start picking as just kind of a part of and that's just kind of what it seems like because Like like you said, I agree with you. He's exceeded expectations. I'm talking about from since the time he came into the NBA
Starting point is 00:12:02 Yes, it was 18 19 years old, man. Yep. All the expectations they put on him, he exceeded that, that's crazy. Yes. There's not a whole lot of 18 year olds get handed the keys to a franchise. 18.
Starting point is 00:12:20 18. No college, no dominant male. I mean, I guess the dominant male figures would be his coach, Coach Drew. They don't hand the keys to a franchise to an 18 year old. That's what he did. That's what they gave him. That's crazy. Yeah. That's what they gave him. I mean, it almost like, well my favorite player didn't play that long.
Starting point is 00:12:46 He should just go, why? I guarantee you if your favorite player could play at that level that he's playing at, he'd have stayed. Absolutely. Kobe Bryant he broke down on him. He had the shoulder towards Labrum and he had the Achilles injury and he was just, he had given it all he got. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:13:10 Kobe was that Mercedes that had five hundred thousand miles on it and it just pulls out the road and it just stopped Damn you don't think Jordan if Jordan could have still played at that elite level You don't think he just continue to play of course we all would play playing right now? Of course. The man that's taking care of his body for this long, Lord is blessed and beyond blessed. And he's able to play at an elite level. Even in year 22, that man averaged 24, 8 and 8. In year 22.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Everybody else averaged, I don't even think anybody, did anybody average 22? The average double figures in 22 well considering that only Vince Carter played the 22 22 seasons All right, that's crazy. I mean think about that man And we just try and people just try to find things to nitpick and to pick him apart And I just I just I just I'll just never I'll just never understand why. Why? I mean it's gonna I mean he's gonna be gone and then you know eventually KD eventually Steph we'll have new guys and then what that's when he'll be missed the most though.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Somebody else somebody else will take his place. Somebody else that they're going to love to hate. Somebody, I mean they- I don't know. There's never been anybody before or since him that's been like this. Nobody, nobody defied you to find it. Even if you look at the bad boy Pistons.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Nope, they didn't dislike them like they dislike this man. Right. I agree. I think when he hangs it up, everybody's gonna miss him. Yeah. They want to be done for the game. Yeah. It's the biggest party of the summer.

Starting point is 00:16:04 How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access? Should you, that's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club.
Starting point is 00:16:29 We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Paraguay against Chile pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down.
Starting point is 00:17:02 I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that gonna be my game, but it was gonna be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow, now on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. Starting point is 00:17:27 and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapinoe, to the show. And we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiance Sue Bird, watching former teammates retire, and more. Never a dull moment with Rapinoe. Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker

Starting point is 00:18:21 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women Sports. Johnathan Kaminga reportedly prefers to play for the Sacramento Kings instead of the Golden State Warriors. Kaminga believes the Warriors have stunted and strung his career long for four seasons. Joe, do you agree? It doesn't seem like he's going to accept their, I think, what is it, their offer? Yeah, talking about the Warriors offer? Yeah. No, I don't think he's gonna accept their, I think, what is it, the offer? The offer? Yeah, talking about the Warriors' offer? Yeah. No, I don't think he's gonna accept the Warriors' offer. I think he's actually ready to move on.
Starting point is 00:18:54 But yeah, I can see him going to Sacramento. But they would have to do a sign and trade, though, right? Correct, correct. Yeah, I think if the Warriors are looking to improve I'm not sure what I'm not sure what Sacramento has it that they were want but I Don't know either. They don't have to trade for me. They don't have to trade for me man. They get they can't he does He fed up he does. Yeah Yeah, you know you know sure that he trusts him anymore
Starting point is 00:19:21 Right at that's what we got. There you go. There you go. So why is he limiting himself to just one team? Why Sacramento? Why not anywhere else? Hey, maybe he likes that. I think there's really been a, yeah, no grounds. Well, has it? I don't think it's good. Go ahead, Joe. I don't think it's really been a huge market for him. Oh Joe for whatever reason it's you know It's been a little weird for him, but uh, he's definitely a talent who can help a team obviously You know win a title compete for one the Sacramento thing. I don't know where they came from maybe they got the money to spend but I
Starting point is 00:20:03 Don't think going back to Golden State is uh, I don't think that's a Future I don't think it's beneficial for the for the Warriors anyway Because you know the things that courage said, you know Yeah, I think you I think you I think you go with that situation man And I think when they got Jimmy Butler they go ahead yeah, yes that kind of thing yeah, yeah Ocho Steelers cornerback Jaylen Ramsey is wearing a five dollar bill on his shoulder pads at training camp
Starting point is 00:20:43 Okay, I might go out there, I'm trying to make some money. Come on now. Oh, he got it on the flap. What's that about? He got it on the flap. Yeah, you trying to say he trying to make money. He got it on his pads.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I'm trying to get this bread. Yeah, I like that. I like that. Whatever you got to do. Whatever you got to do to motivate yourself. Whatever you got to do to stay locked in. Right. I like it.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I like it. This the second time he got traded cause he came from the Rams. He spent two years in Miami and now he's a, well, damn. Cause he started in Jacksonville. Yeah. Did a couple years in Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Good at defense in Jacksonville boy. Yeah. They were loaded. And this is a contract you're form? Uh-uh, he just signed one. Just signed one, yeah. Defense and Jacksonville boy. Yeah, they were loaded and it's a country gear for him. Oh He just had one. Yes. Yeah, they just they just extended him all last year. Mm-hmm It wasn't nothing wrong with him. I don't understand No, he's saying he had what he tried to make money when he had to that's what he's trying to say He tried to make money. Why you out there? Yeah, all right
Starting point is 00:21:42 He tried to make money while you out there That's something you would have done with you when you were playing oh No, I ain't putting out no $5. I would have a dollar on now not no fire You know you saw where I tried to bribe that referee you notice I tried to bribe him with a dollar bill, right? Anything more than that? Oh, did they fine you for that? Yeah, they fined me a little 20,000. It's cool. It was worth it. Iconic moment.
Starting point is 00:22:12 The NFL can't take a joke. No. I said they should have slapped them. I told them they should have slapped them with about a. Oh yeah. What'd I say? I think I'm about to say a hundred thousand, 200,000. Unc went off.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Unc went off on me when he was on, he was on Fox, huh? I was on CBS. CBS, it was so funny, man. Hey, Joe boy, Unc went off, man. It was funny. When I saw it, I just laughed. I just laughed. I said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:22:40 I'm gonna make sure I do something else the following week too. I mean, I like all the dances. I like something else to follow on week two. I like all the dances. I like all the others. The river dance and I like the sombrero. Yeah. He stayed on some bull jive, Joe. Cam Ward told the athletic there's a target on his back. I don't think I'm being welcome in the league with open arms. I was the first pick. I'm blessed to be on that. Uh, but at the end of the day, there's a target on my back. There's a target on everyone's back in the
Starting point is 00:23:10 league, but I'm trying to prove myself to my teammates. Yep. You're absolutely right. They want to see why you the first pick just like we go out there to ZB. That was the first round pick or he won the Thorpe award and he won the buckets or he whatever you want. I need to see why you won that award bro yeah absolutely oh yeah they gonna try you now yeah there's no there's no target for one obviously when you think about first round picks he might be the first this might be the first time in the history of the NFL the first round pick slipped up under the radar yeah cuz all the attention is going to the first round pick slipped up under the radar.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Yeah. Because all the attention is going to the fifth round pick. If you think about it, you have slipped right up under the radar as far as media coverage and all the hoopla that is always surrounded the first pick of the draft. Yeah, because of the Shadoor effect. So I'm looking forward to what Ken Ward does this season. You're going to be fine because you got some pieces over there to work with too. You got some pieces to work with.
Starting point is 00:24:08 So- Joe, that's the same thing with Bronnie James. We ain't talking about not one first round draft pick. All they talking about is North 55, Bronnie James. And you know, Cam Ward, that market he's in, that ain't a huge market. You know what I mean? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Yeah, that's another reason why he find us- He's this Cleveland. That name. huge market you know no no no yeah that name right yeah uh sanders james yeah i mean they talked more they talked more about uh the 55th pick in the draft than they did the top two pick and i think the wizards got one and the hawks got the other the draft then they did the top two pick and I think the Wizards got one and the Hawks got the other. You ain't got no target on your back bro that's everybody to come in. Everybody that's a first-round draft pick you a first-round draft pick people need to say and you the number one overall draft pick but they go check your ID every game you going to check your ID make sure you old enough to be
Starting point is 00:25:03 in the club Every time They go make sure you older be in the club Veterans 49ers veteran left tackle Trent showed frustration during practice because Nick Bolsa kept beating him Nick Bolsa is beating tree with a lot of time Trent yesterday had a big reaction to a move of the ball period That was dominated by Nick Bolsa. period that was dominated by Nick Bosa The offense was stopped by Nick Bosa. Trent came off the field Exacerbated like he banged his thighs just
Starting point is 00:25:32 Was frustrated. I think that's great for the team I think that's gonna push Trent to get better and be better through our training camp and he's gonna be Trent Williams by the time September rolls around I hate to use iron sharpening irons, but it's definitely what's happening in camp Williams is 37 recently said that he wants to play until his 40s Hmm Be in camp consistently especially by somebody that's gonna frustrate you well who better than Nick Bosa to get yourself We got to get to because you're not gonna be facing Nick Bosa's than Nick Bosa to get yourself where you got to get to? Cause you ain't really, you're not going to be facing Nick Bosa's 16 Nick Bosa's.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Nah, absolutely not. Excuse me. 17.8. They got 17 gay. They ain't going to be 17 Nick Bosa. Hey, but you got one over there. Jared verse. He ain't no, he ain't no easy victory.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Yeah. You right. Hey, he's a little undersized. So we little undersized look quicker. Don't let that other side fool you Yeah, oh, yeah, you can go now Go and I think uh
Starting point is 00:26:32 The Cardinals got one of the Eagles defensive lineman Oh one number seven last year Right now. I'm not ready. Uh No, I'm not ready He was a single digit though. It was he was a single digit, I'm not ready. He was a single digit though. He was a single digit if I'm not mistaken. You think so? Who was it? Ash, who was that D limer that went to? I'm
Starting point is 00:27:19 Yeah, Josh, where yeah, yeah, yeah, he was a single digit right ash Was he I could have swore yeah, he was this thing with this guy cuz I swore he was Cuz he's the one that said he could have even been the uh, super old MVP. Yeah. Yeah So they got a they got some guys didn't get off the rock on you now You know trends coming to a Trace coming out. I think Trent was Nick last year. He came, he's coming off an injury. Yeah, he had a few injuries. He was out along with McCaffrey was out.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Mm-hmm. They had a couple of guys. They had a couple of guys out. They lost the, the wide receiver. Are you? Are you Brett? Yep. I had a couple of DBs, a fanga.
Starting point is 00:28:05 And look, it's not going to be as easy to pour down a thing because they lost a lot of guys. Dre Greenlaw was late coming back. He's gone now. The DB, he ended up going to the Colts. Oh, not not Ward. Yeah. Wait, the Davias Ward left? Yep.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Yep. He was nice. That's why Andy paid him. He was nice. Demar DeRozan went on Mo's pod and explained the difference between being the young players now when he was their age. Demar said, it's the biggest party of the summer. WWE SummerSlam is here and wrestling with Freddie is all over it.

We need to embrace this community. of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier, and we watched Paraguay against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me.

Starting point is 00:32:08 So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. I see that mofo put his name on Twitter search at halftime to see what they were saying. Joe, they misbehaving like this, Joe. Hey, in this new era, it's a lot different, fellas. Halftime, he ain't lying. Now, I'm sure a lot of these teams going to put these stipulations in where these guys can't be using their phone at halftime, but a lot of these cats, man, they own their phones at halftime, checking to see what's going on.
Starting point is 00:32:47 It's just a, it's almost like a habit. It's a part of who they are and what they do. They can't help it. You sit in your locker, boom. First thing you do, pick up your phone, you go to scrolling. Yeah. We ain't, hey, now at, like in a practice,
Starting point is 00:33:03 like they get a break. Yeah. Guys go get on the phone then, you know what I'm saying? You know, call somebody, but I can't even, Ocho, can you imagine somebody doing that at halftime of a game? Did that ever happen? I can't even talk trash, y'all.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Cause my crazy ass, I tweeted on the sideline in the middle of the game, in the middle of the preseason I wouldn't agree with that but preseason but I'm talking about the regular season No, no, I you know, I wouldn't do not like that But I think we were playing Philly in the preseason and I got hit real good I'm talking about in the real good on to the point where I had I had to go and let everybody know I was okay. The tweet might still be up.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Well, if you didn't take it down, yeah, it's still up. It's still up there. We were playing the Eagles in the preseason and I forgot the dude's name, Whitefella, he's really good, War 55. I can't remember his name, but he caught me on the slant. Ooh, I wanted to say bruh, it's preseason, but I had to sit there for a little minute before I got up, I was a little woozy.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And they took me out of the game. That's what's going on now. Wow, that's why they don't win. Can you imagine what it's like in high school and college? No. Hey, we in different times, Joe. And now guys getting paid in college and high school too? Oh, yeah, they did, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:28 We in different times. Yeah, college is a professional sport now. It is. It is. And you see what they doing? It's a professional sport. You see, they trying to limit. You see, they trying to limit the NIL, though, Joe.
Starting point is 00:34:39 You see that, right? Yeah, they trying. You know why they trying to limit it, ain't it, Joe? Talk to me. Because the people that get the money who they look like Hey, listen, hold on while you talking they say they were gonna start doing a little back pay On their now and I wouldn't check in on it, but they only going back like 10 years. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you two fuck all joke You trying to get a little back pay, huh? Yeah
Starting point is 00:35:03 Y'all just try to see what going on, Ocho. I ain't trying to roughen up. I'm just trying to see what going on. I got you, I got you. I know they ain't going back no damn near 40 years cause that's what it be. That's what it be for me next year. I went to school in 86, so I know I ain't get nothing.
Starting point is 00:35:18 It's a better state, they ain't got no money to pay nobody. They ain't got nobody, they got no money to pay nobody now. So I know they ain't get no back pay, but I don't I don't I don't get this like I say guys when you hear you hear Now now when when you home, okay be there do what you want to do Do you want to tweet you want to do whatever you want to do? But I don't I don't I'm confused at the half of a game You check it what people saying on Twitter, IG, whatever the case may be, really?
Starting point is 00:35:47 Cause you thinking, and you thinking you probably too locked in even, they even care about that. Yeah, yeah. That's what I would be thinking like, that's why our phones are such a distraction nowadays. Man, you gotta think, when I was in college, and y'all a little older than me,
Starting point is 00:36:02 but when I was in college, we didn't have cell phones, man. Man, look here. We didn't have cell phones. The bills were so expensive when I... Huh? You didn't have no cell phone? No, man, you go get you a calling card, call whoever you wanna call, that's how y'all talking.
Starting point is 00:36:18 You talk that card up, you go get you another. Or you get somebody else call the car. Damn, Joe, I had a cell phone, Joe. I had a little Razor, I think. Oh you get somebody else call the car Had a little razor I think Until you had a little phone But uh, but but at that point but see the thing it was different. I mean it was different people I mean they took that stuff serious man I and I think the thing is now Joe is that like a lot of the veterans have been like
Starting point is 00:36:55 Ushered out and so they're getting younger and younger. Yeah, and they you know, it's all this stuff that that are doing now But yeah, that would be the man. That would be, Ooh, Ooh, goodness gracious. Times have changed. It is. Times have changed. Go ahead, Joe. Could y'all, could y'all even fathom like the things
Starting point is 00:37:22 that you could get into as a kid, bro, in this time and era to where you got all these devices, whether it's phones, iPads, it's just too much, man. So many distractions nowadays, it's hard to keep a lot of these dudes focused, man. It is, it is. Yeah, it is. It's too much. They gotta want it, they gotta want it.
Starting point is 00:37:40 That's the only thing. You gotta really want it to be able to function and lock in during these times you got to want it Yeah You do you do or you got it? Okay prioritize what's what's what's important what's really important it was a must-have And And the thing is like who am I checking it on? They know where I'm at. I'm at a game. And what you doing? Playing the game. Okay, you call me on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Starting point is 00:38:14 on show. You call me at 10 o'clock, 10, 30 in the morning. Man, what you doing? Practice. I'm watching film. I'm studying. What are you doing? You should first of all, why you calling me? You should be at work I've never understood that. Oh Joe. I don't I didn't I didn't understand why guys would get out of meeting and they go get on The phone bro, you know what? You're unless somebody I get it Okay, your wife or your girlfriend pregnant expected kids sick. I get it, okay, your wife or your girlfriend, pregnant, expecting, kids sick, I get that. First of all, if you go get on the phone like this here, you ain't checking in to see if somebody's sick.
Starting point is 00:38:54 You already know. Hey. I know what time it is. You good over there? No, she probably still left a little chick at the house, so you know you got a check and it makes you she good in between means please Joe is different Joe. I mean I think about it
Starting point is 00:39:16 I know think about when you came in and when you left now think about the time Ten years from now, what it's gonna be like? The NBA gonna join it. They gonna join in on all the fun. All this stuff these dudes doing, they gonna have activities for posting. You know, they interview guys on the side like, for the half night, cuz you know, sometimes they talking to the managers and things like that. They'll find a way to capitalize. You right, like that they'll find a way to capitalize you're right joe they'll find a way to capitalize
Starting point is 00:39:48 steve curry on the shot that changed his life it's the shot against gonzaga i really felt like that was a difference maker not to say i wouldn't have been able to figure it out had we lost but that was a big moment ocho what was the play that changed your life? Ocho The play that changed my life, especially from a receiver standpoint, was dropping the ball. It wasn't even catching the ball. I'll never forget, rest in peace, Oliver Gibson. We were playing the Indianapolis Colts. I think it might've been my rookie year, maybe my second year. But to keep a drive going, we went forward on four down to keep a drive going to go down and maybe tie the game or actually win the game. I dropped the goddamn slam on four down and I am crying. Getting this, you know, Oliver Gibson came up to me, grabbed me by, grabbed me by my shirt.
Starting point is 00:40:36 It's a picture of it too. I posted it on Twitter when he passed away. Grab me up by my shirt, man. If you don't stop that crime. Cause you're going to have another opportunity to win us a game. Change everything. I got on that jug machine and just, just. I was different after that, from that point, I hadn't even become
Starting point is 00:41:00 Chad Johnson yet. I was a nobody at that point. Yep. After dropping that game and realized I just cost us a game. Yeah. Cost us a game. And I always told myself from that point on, I'll either be one of the reasons why we're in a game or we win games from that point on.
Starting point is 00:41:16 And that's exactly what happened. Yep. The same thing happened to me. Yeah. In 1999, I dropped a touchdown that would have given us home field advantage throughout its playoffs Damn I still I still think about that play. Oh Joe I've been a mess. Oh sweet. Hey, oh You're right That time oh, yeah tight. I'm motion out lying back away with me. Yeah Like niggas say I just ate it only Oh
Starting point is 00:41:46 Try to thank today. Oh, yeah, right here. I'm already thinking. Oh, I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna do that, right? It went right through your hands right through them Right through a mocho But that's the worst for you that boy dropping the ball In the South is on man, I Never forget and I came to the sidelines to say hey shop you get it back. You'll get it back. I'm like You know the opportunity gonna come cuz they were okay wasn't like I was the number one receiver They're gonna be feeding me balls. Right, right, right. Oh, that will be feeding me. They will throw me no balls like that
Starting point is 00:42:25 Okay, okay balls right right right pause that will be feeding me that way for me no balls like that okay okay there was gonna be throwing me football they wasn't feeding me footballs like that there you go bad so i knew that opportunity would go come back that. It might come back at a later date and time, but it wasn't coming back that day. And I remember Ocho. And so I dropped that play, and then at Wednesday's practice, man, I was catching, I was catching everything.
Starting point is 00:42:58 I mean, I was taking stuff off my shoe tops. I was making stuff one-handed, and Dayan Reeves said, I mean, he's like, I sure wish you'd caught that one on Sunday like this. Sometimes say, listen, sometimes you relax at the wrong times. Yep. Anytime I drop the ball is because I relax. Oh, Joe, you know what I did? I didn't extend. I did this. Oh, like the ball. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Damn. And so the ball just like. Damn. Oh, boy, that hurt. Boy, that hurt, that hurt, that hurt. I remember going home crying. I called my brother. He said, man, what's wrong? I said, man, it's bank. You waited till you got home.
Starting point is 00:43:53 I was crying in the middle of the field. Yeah, I couldn't let him see me cry because somebody might have seen it. Somebody might have had a swing on somebody on the field. Oh, you got jokes? Don't. But listen. Bet I would did that car cry, I was like, man.
Starting point is 00:44:07 And you know. As a matter of fact, OJ had a four door blazer. I'd never forget he had a four door blazer. Boy. Damn. You know me, boy. I let them tears fly, boy. I don't care where I'm at.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Boy, that thing hurt, that hurt. And I agree with Steph. And he's like, I'm not saying that I couldn't have figured it out at a later date and time, but I believe that was the moment that he's like, hold on, we Davidson, that's Gonzaga. And they, you know, they always in the playoffs. They always one of the, you know,
Starting point is 00:44:49 and when he took them down, look, I had never seen anybody shoot the ball like that. Right. Not from that kind of distance. Right. Not just pull up like that. He was, you know, like he's six, too, like he's an average, he's not six, five, six, four, six, five.
Starting point is 00:45:05 And he just letting it go. I mean, he dancing with folks, and his shorts like three size, like they made for his dad, you know what I'm saying? And he just letting it fly. Damn. He definitely left his mark, man. Davidson.
Starting point is 00:45:23 I wonder with so many three point shooters that have come along, what separated Steph and made him as good as he is? What made him so great? I'm just- They gave him the green light to do it. You see prior to Steph, only a handful, think about it Ocho, everybody shooting threes now. That was a, how many times, only a handful, think about it Ocho, everybody's shooting threes now.
Starting point is 00:45:45 That was a, how many times, that's a bad, Steph, there's no shot that Steph takes that people actually believe is a bad shot. A shot, right. People were shooting some of the shots that Steph shoot routinely into the first quarter, into the half, into the shot clock. Right.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Steph would shoot that shot with 15, 16 seconds on the shot clock end of the shot clock. Right. Steph would shoot that shot with 15, 16 seconds on the shot clock. On the shot clock? But somebody had to give him the confidence saying that's okay. Mark Jackson was that guy. Now he shot that and come to the NBA. Guys wouldn't shoot no shots like Steph.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I mean, Reggie was a catching shoot. Ray was a little, was catching shoot, but he could. Steph can dance and launch it from the timeline. Yeah. You literally have to pick Steph up at half court or he'll let it go. Right. And you think because with his ability
Starting point is 00:46:40 to be able to create separation, create his own shot, it makes it that much more easier for him? Yes, absolutely. Because, and plus the thing is, if you hug up on it because he can't have it, he can put it on the floor and get by you. Get by you, yeah. He can get all the way to the rim.
Starting point is 00:46:58 So now, and then he runs constantly. He doesn't get tired. Because the first thing, if you get tired, your shot goes, you short. He's in, he's probably the best condition athlete because nobody's running as much as he does. Oh, he run a lot. He run a lot. And he just let it fly. That'd be confusing when I think about basketball and you know,
Starting point is 00:47:22 you're playing the warriors and as much as Steph run like me, you know how when you play defense and you're in the DB say, listen, they in a bunch, we gonna banjo it. If you come in your area, you just pick him up and I forget, man, just zone. So you don't got to run all over the place. Okay. And now again, and guess what happened now when they backpicked that zone, guess what? Still wide open. They're going to run.
Starting point is 00:47:44 They're going to run. They're going to run you off so many screens. Oh yeah. Now when they backpick that zone, guess what? Steph wide open. They're going to run, they're going to run it. They're going to run you off so many screens. Oh yeah. Yeah. That that's, that sucks. And the thing is, and when you miss a shot, you would think because they're such a small team. They are small.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Yeah. That they're not good. They're one of the better rebounding teams. So when they get these long rebounds off the carrom, Steph automatically goes to reset so now You play its own. Okay, he go reset to one of those corners. He'll he'll get it and he'll come all the way in the corner and then he'll come up
Starting point is 00:48:19 I'm crazy But some give you confidence, like to shoot it, son. No words, we're not gonna take you out. Shoot the ball. Hey, nobody else got the green like he does, huh? Oh, they like, I got it now, but he made it okay. Now you see everybody shooting threes, don't you, they shooting damn this 70 a game
Starting point is 00:48:42 between the two teams. They are not as efficient as he is. No, but you think about it. At this point in time, Buddy Hill is the head of where Steph Curry was with threes made. Anthony Edwards, yes, because nobody was shooting him. They're shooting him now. Right. Look, Jason Tatum, look how many threes he shoots a game.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Look how many Ant- he shoots a game. Look how many Ant-Man shoots a game. Buddy Hill, even though Buddy wasn't a star, Buddy was coming and letting the three go. Everybody letting the three go now. It's the three. And everybody think they're Steph Curry. You watching the AAU kids, every age group, and they shoot, they shooting from three. They throwing the ball, because they can't shoot it cuz they so small,
Starting point is 00:49:26 they throw it. Yeah. We're breaking down SummerSlam, the biggest party of the summer on Wrestling with Freddie.
