I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden, please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. How you doing today, Joe? I'm doing great, brother, Debo. I'm doing great.
Starting point is 00:04:26 I missed you, my brother. Honestly, I did. I did. brother from another. It's been too long. It's been too long. Way too long. Brother, what, 17?
Starting point is 00:04:36 17? 8, something like that. Oh, my goodness, brother. A lot of days, brother. A lot of days. A lot of days. And I ain't going to lie. I took advantage of those days, Evo.
Starting point is 00:04:44 You took advantage of those days? Yes, I did a couple of, I golfed. I did some golf trips. I went back out to New York. What a surprise. New Jersey. I went to Oak Hill. Beautiful course.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Hold on, hold on. You just went golfing. I just went golfing. No, that's one of them. No, I'm asking. You just said, the hell with it. I'm going to go back to go play on some green grass that you could get in VA. Yes, I'm going to go play.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Pristine, nice courses that I haven't played. He's telling me it was some charity event to it, something that was more than you just running around to some other grass. Nope. Me going to a PGA tour course by my man Ben that hosted me and my brother and my boy Sean. My brother John and my boy Sean. We all went out there. and we went and had a great day.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And from there, what was your score? Would I shoot? Yeah. This does. I haven't played nothing alone. You see when he starts stuttering. Y'all already know it was some trash. I shot really bad.
Starting point is 00:05:42 I shot like a 95. I shot like a 95. Okay. Almost 100. That's good, huh? You almost got 100. You shoot 100%. I don't know I go for it.
Starting point is 00:05:52 How they work? So I shot like a, I shot like a 50-45. Debo. You want to suit 100. That's an A, right? That's a eight. That's terrible. You want to get closer to 72 is the better.
Starting point is 00:06:06 So I'm normally shoot in the high 80s. You know what I'm saying? Like 86, 43 on the front, 43 on the back. That's normally my score, like I'm right around 86. That's solid. This one I haven't played in a long time. So we did that. Then from there, Debo, went to Jersey, ran back some more golf,
Starting point is 00:06:23 went to Trout National, fire golf course. Mike Trout, tight. The Lager Woods course. Okay. Okay. I was playing the member guest. I know what you're talking about. I remember that one because I was in the design of that course.
Starting point is 00:06:35 I remember that. There you go. There we go. Just like you. Just lying. Yeah, I'm just, you know. Debo played the member guest, my boy, Ross. We came in fourth place, you know.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Obviously, you didn't help. I did not help. I did not help. Ross played so good, but I brought the vibes. I was making sure he was good. We had the caddy. You know what I'm saying? kicking it.
Starting point is 00:06:57 but Ross definitely played way better than me. I got to get my swings back right. I got to stop right often. You got to get back into the groove of it. I got to. Okay. Okay. So then after that, Debo, one more thing.
Starting point is 00:07:11 After that, I went and got my brain and body scan. I went and got my hips checked out. What did they find out about that old janky-ass hip? And that hip, Janky, Debo. Where are you going to get that done at, bro? Man, listen, I ain't going to get it done yet because they told me once I get it done, I can't play back. I can't run four-quare basketball no more.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Oh, you got to have it cut up. I got, man, listen. I'm going to have to get some, I'm going to do some rehab and stuff, but it's not going to get, I'm not going to start back doing my crazy windmills and stuff, I don't think. So, yeah. Windmill of what?
Starting point is 00:07:46 A windmill dunk. I lie. I used to go windmill. You know how you. You can still windmill. Don't mean you go slamming in a 10-foot basket. I'm talking about a 10-foot regulation hoop. Debo, I was, I can, I could win it.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Not now. Not anymore. No more. Joe. Look here, man. Hey, ladies and gentlemen, we had a great time at a fan fest over there. Fanatics Fest. Sorry, man. I want to say Fanatics Fest.
Starting point is 00:08:15 The whole thing. Fanatics Fest. That way that everybody know what we're talking about. But shout out. Stephanie Me and Man for throwing me up on there. Cam Ward. Great interview. Appreciate you stopping out for us, Boer.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Joe, so I went and I did body work. So as I left New York, I flew to L.A., you know, so I could take care of my body. You went just running around, gallivanting, not taking care of that old junkie-ass hip, you got. I went on head, went straight to L.A., went to see my guy, Jimmy Blubb, got body work for about two, three days straight. Okay. So boom, boom, boom, about 12 hours of work. Three, six, three. Great, great, great.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Went from there straight to A-Z. Got to A-Z. Had to see my trainer. Ian Danny, PEP, performance enhancement professionals out there in Tempe, Arizona. Yep. You understand? Get some more work in.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Get some more work in. You're running around. Your hip janky and everything else. You want to play on golf and you can't even get your swing right. Like, you probably cut that hit. That's what you're running around. what I'm saying. I'm going to get it right, though. I really need to start, like you saying, Dibald, I got to start doing the, like I said, the dry needling, the thorough,
Starting point is 00:09:39 I got to start doing it way more often. When I stop, that's what, you know what I'm saying? They're like, it's going to get back. Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, how do you think this work? You think you eat healthy for a while, then you ain't got to eat healthy for a while and you still go stay healthy? It don't work like that, Joe. My body, you got to maintain its maintenance, Joe. And I'm 511, and I found out was 511. I told you. 180 pounds. I told you you weren't no six foot and you 511.
Starting point is 00:10:05 But I grew. Because when I went to the, when I was in the combine, now you're saying you six foot. Now you're saying you grew. So you was actually five, 10 something. I was 510 and 7, 8 at the combine.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And I was trying to tell you that I grew. So I knew I was. No, they just didn't measure it completely straight there because they was like, you know what, we're going to just give you the average. We're going to say it's 5.11. because you was actually 5.10 and a little bit over a half.
Starting point is 00:10:36 So he said, I'm going to just give you 5.11. What? That's your doctor. Yeah, man. I can't even. 511, 180. 511, 180. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Listen, Joe. I'm just, I'm trying to, I'm trying to tell you, man. Now, after I got back, I ain't going to lie. I ain't really do much of nothing then. Yeah. I did a little charity event. I think it was Sunday. No, what's that?
Starting point is 00:11:03 No. What's today? Friday. Friday. Right. 31st of July. I'm tripping. So it might have been like a couple days ago I went and did to my, it was at the zoo or something.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Presley Ridge, I think they do a lot of things to help families, kids. Adoption, all that other stuff is great. Great organization. But let's go on on here and see what happened with your boy. over there. And, well, I guess I guess it's Philly. Is it Philly?
Starting point is 00:11:39 Where's your boy, LeBron, go to the show? Oh, you know where Brown went. Brown went to Philly. So, but this is, let me break it down to you. Debo, can you hear me? Yeah, I can hear you. This is the, this is the, the...
Starting point is 00:11:52 You sound a little echoee, that's all. I was sad, honestly, at first, initial thoughts. I wanted him to come back to Cleveland. obviously, you know I wanted him to come back to Cleveland because of the court side seats and the connection that we have out there. I wanted us to be able to go there and be able to kick it with Braun.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Hold on. Who is us? I wanted it more. Who is us? Who is us? Us is me, you, and the city of Cleveland. Okay, okay. That's why when I say us,
Starting point is 00:12:21 what I wanted Bron to come back to Cleveland, I initially was just shocked and hurt because I'm like, damn. I wanted it for me, selfishly. I don't know, Joe. I looked at your story. I think it was some tears. I was, I was sad.
Starting point is 00:12:35 I was sad, honestly, genuinely. Just because I wanted him to come back, I knew this was probably going to be his final time to see Bronn. Just no matter what anybody says about LeBron, love him or hate him, he's eventually going to leave the league. So he said this is going to be his last decision. This is going to be his last team.
Starting point is 00:12:51 I would have hoped to just being able to go to the Cavs games in the land, knowing how much they love him, and having them a chance to win a championship. Because they do have a mom. and he's coming for the low. He wasn't going to have to like take no other parts. And when I see that he signed there for $4 million, for $8 million, I'm like, dude, he signed for vet men.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Signed for vet and men. So that's when you know. I ain't going to lie, Joe. I would, I don't sign you. That's why. But that's why, Debo, this move for me is really like, that's why I'm just like, it's whatever Ron wanted to do. I was happy where Ron wanted to go is your decision, Brian.
Starting point is 00:13:26 You've been planning the league. You've done everybody justice. So why do you think he went to Philly then? Because they got the squad. They have a mob, and it's not like they were already been winning championships. He wasn't had to go to the Warriors and playing with Steph Curry, though. They already won some stuff. Go to San Antonio.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Oh, no, they already won. He didn't go back to Miami. I thought that was going to be one. That would have been a smooth one with Yannis, the new squad they got. But I think Philly just looking at the roster, and then they got Jalen Brown also. Just the player, Tyrese Maxie, the rookie. the rookie DJ, Joelle and Bede, just brought in Jalen Brown, and then you add in Braun and don't have to take away no pieces.
Starting point is 00:14:08 So if you're just looking at that mob right there, that five, that's an unbelievable five. I don't care what anybody's talking about. The only thing they have to worry about is Joel and B's health. You know what I'm saying? Yes, yes. So Joel and B's health, but with this team knowing what you got to do, just make it to the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:14:25 You have Joelle and B on a real schedule where he's playing. I don't know. His schedule is going to look crazy. He might not be playing that many games. Half the season at max, just making sure that when we get to the playoff, if we get to the end, it sounds crazy. But last season was the first season he didn't have to come off for like a surgery or something. So I'm looking at Philly like they got a stacked mob.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Tyrese Maxie is unbelievable. Jalen Brown additioned to this team. Like, he was one of the top 10 players in the league. And with addition, with Bronn, and knowing that Braun now doesn't have to be going crazy average in 30 you got so many buckets on your team and now you could just be passing. Brom always been good at passing.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Now, Bronn, spotting up, being able to set people up. It looks crazy. Hey, hey, listen, let me slow you down a little bit because this podcast right here is going out and people are believing or seeing this. And Dan Gilbert,
Starting point is 00:15:25 he probably is going to see this. And right now, to me, it's sounding like you're a full-fledged Philly fans. So when you try and get those court-sized seats that you've been getting blessed with, I want you to remember these words you were saying. This is what.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I am making a basketball analysis. I'm still rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers are my basketball squad. That's my team. I want them dudes to win the championship. I think they're going to see. I think they're going to meet. So you want Brian to lose?
Starting point is 00:15:59 if it comes that I don't want them to have to put me in if they put me in this situation that's going to be the tough situation to be in but I would love to have to be in that situation to figure it out it's it's Philly and it's playing it's
Starting point is 00:16:17 that's what you call a win-win situation for me who do you want to win it ain't a such thing as a win-win situation Joe because if I ask you right now we got Cleveland Browns and we got the Pittsburgh Steelers going against each other and whoever win that go win the Super Bowl
Starting point is 00:16:32 I know who you want to win it. It's impossible. Well, the Browns, because they ain't win. We need one first. Y'all being stingy. Y'all got two, no. Share the wealth. Browns need one before y'all need another one.
Starting point is 00:16:44 That's for sure. So I'm definitely going to go with that, Joe. Now, Philly, Cleveland. In the Eastern Conference Finals, the same way the Browns and the Steelers are going to be in the AFC championship. So if I'm going to watch and both whoever plays better, deserves to one. I'm room for both. Oh, it's good bad.
Starting point is 00:17:04 It's good ball. Good ball. Hey, hey, hey. Mr. Gilbert, remember, he wants to see whoever plays best win. He don't want to see your Cleveland Cavaliers win that he says he's from the land up. Your fans that say, you've heard the chaos. Now you can see it. Hello. My gosh. Starting point is 00:20:01 I explore the wild lives of rock stars and unbelievable true crime stories from music history. These are the stories you haven't heard, the kind you'll end up telling someone else. Like the time Paul McCartney spent in one of the world's most notorious prisons. Imagine that. You're Paul McCartney.
Starting point is 00:20:21 It's 1980. You're an ex-Beedle, and you're doing time in one of Japan's worst prisons right there alongside Yakuza gangsters and for a ridiculous charge. Or the bizarre crime Lady Gaga is accused them. Who is the artist Lady Gaga as being accused of doing the unthinkable to after allegedly stealing her music in style to become famous?
Starting point is 00:20:47 And what about that time, Blondie's Debbie Harry escaped a serial killer? The man who had given her that ride she barely escaped from was Ted Bundy. Listen to Discrace Land on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or everywhere. you get your podcast. This is Chelsea Handler from Dear Chelsea. Every week, the news gets worse. The world gets crazier, and Yamanika is here to tell whoever's responsible, you're the problem.

Join Yomeneika Saunders as she breaks down the week's most problematic stories on her new podcast. You're The Problem with Yomaniqa. Do you know I just found out who's serious? Sydney Sweeney was.
Starting point is 00:21:33 New episodes weekly every Wednesday as part of my new network, the Dear Chelsea Network. If he got a bunch of women, then I should have a bunch of men. Do better or do less, so I don't have to do so much. So join Yamanika each episode
Starting point is 00:21:47 as she answers one question. Who's the problem? I'm Yamanika, and I'm out. Listen to you're the problem with Yamanika on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Joe, When Braun gets out the league, once Braun leaves the league, we only have Brown a little bit longer.
Starting point is 00:22:10 You don't want Cleveland to have. You want Brown to have it, huh? What's Bron leaves the league? All calves. All calves. That's the squad. You're talking about so many, Brian don't went to what, 10 of them? He got three or four of them, something like that.
Starting point is 00:22:22 What are you talking about? That's it. Share the wealth. What are you talking about? Man, listen. You told we can't get one because we already got six. Cleveland needs to need one before, before Pittsburgh getting another. Huh?
Starting point is 00:22:34 talking about the Browns. See, now, when you're talking about the calves? Braun already went and delivered one for the calves. So that's what I'm not even. So why can't they get one without him? You don't want to see them succeed. I do want to see what you see what he is. I was room for them versus Knicks with all I had and we got swept.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And I was still standing out there on my tent. Let's go calves. Let's go calves. Okay. But again, as I said, Philly, Cleveland. The winner wins a championship. Who you want to win?
Starting point is 00:23:10 I just want the best team to win. Man, listen, man. Y'all know what Joe is, man. For the next two seasons, there's 31 other team. Name any other team. Okay, so here. So you were Brian, Brian. You were Brian.
Starting point is 00:23:23 So Philly going to win a championship, right? I did not say that. I'm asking you. It could happen. You think Philly go win the championship? Man, they're going to be, they're going to be in the Easter Conference finals for show.
Starting point is 00:23:40 This is crazy, Joe. This is crazy. I ain't never seen nothing like this day in my life, Joe. You're supposed to be from the land. The city that picks you, number one. But you're hoping and wishing against and praying against them. You can't even stand on two toes and be like, yo, not even two toes.
Starting point is 00:23:59 And say, I would like to see Cleveland win against Brown because I'm from the land. I went there. I was part of it. That's all me. Mr. Gilbert, he helps me. He gives me, I'm courtside. He don't pick me up and throw me in the back row,
Starting point is 00:24:12 but you can't even do that. Let me tell you something, Debo. I can't let that sway my visual of what I've been seeing going on. The Cavs this off-season, we didn't make any changes, and we got swept by the next last year. I didn't say who could win. I said, who would you want to win, Joe? I would want.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Who would you want to win in that situation? That's what I'm saying, Joe. I can answer every situation if you put the Pittsburgh Steelers in it against. I don't care who it is. Other than Jesus Christ, I want Pittsburgh still. What about if, what about if, like, what about if Dick LeBow was coaching the other team? Coaching the other team? Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:55 He was, the Titans. You still, all right. You damn right. The Steelers. Okay. All right. Love a man to death. It's just, you know what?
Starting point is 00:25:06 It's different because it's basketball, too. I didn't play. I didn't play. And it's wrong. It's Bronn. It's my favorite player. Sue me. God.
Starting point is 00:25:22 You're going to get sued in a minute. When you go to go over there and get them tickets, you're going to feel like he doesn't sue you when he gave you the price that he's giving everybody else. I got fellow, I got fellow, Ron, fan. like me that know what I'm talking about. Who in the chat know what Joe talking about? Anybody? Anybody in chat know what you're talking about?
Starting point is 00:25:43 Bro. Nobody. They do. They said X, no. They do. Is Brian, then the land, then Mr. Gilbert? That's what they're saying. I saw Mr. Gilbert in there like that, man.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Don't do that. Hey, listen, I'm just telling you. That's what they're saying. I'm not saying this. I'm saying what's being said. I'm saying what you're doing. Like they say, I can show you better than I can tell you. You're showing me what it is.
Starting point is 00:26:18 You put me in a sticky situation. I ain't putting you in a sticky situation, man. I'm just putting you in the, like, that's what it is, Joe. It's not even sticky. It's not even sticky. It's clean and cut. You asked me about Biggible. The man I credit for my career,
Starting point is 00:26:32 if there's no dick leboe there's no james harrison like all that and if they got dicklebone up against the pittsburg stillers it's the pittsburg stillers it's the pittsburg stills yeah the thing you feel the same way okay that's why i still that's why i meet with the browns it's gonna be it's gonna be the browns damn what about what about the calves job it's just the cabs it ain't gonna be the calves huh you ain't got you ain't got that much love for the calves that's what i understand No, you don't. You're showing me, man. Your words is going to take the man.
Starting point is 00:27:07 You're asking. LeBron's has a short amount of time still left to play in the league. LeBron not played a hundred years, man. The Cavs are going to still be existing way after LeBron James has done. So for him to still be able to play for two more years, I'm going to give him. That's my man. I'm going to watch him. I'm embracing what he got.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Because the cast, I could be a cast fan when bronze coming. Carries came. We got Donovan Mitchell. We got James Hardin. Hey, listen, listen, listen. I can go ahead and root for somebody. I can want to see them do great and do good. I can hope that they do great and do good.
Starting point is 00:27:41 They can do great and do good, but I don't want you to do so great and so good that you beat my team. Joe, I want to see you shine, but not as dispense of a loss. I'd rather see Dick LeBow go out there and shut us out and to kick off and punt return and give up two touchdown. Okay. But we got to win, Joe. I got what you.
Starting point is 00:28:03 I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. It's just, Yeah, listen here, man, let's go on here and talk about this still a thing, man. We reported the camp over here. What was that on Tuesday?
Starting point is 00:28:12 We got three. We got three on the pub list. A little nephew, Joy Porter, Jr., he on the public. Hey, my man back flared up during conditioning, after conditioning. Hey, I think I know what could solve that back flare up. And Jalen, he, I guess he had a little knee issue from mini camp that that's still going around.
Starting point is 00:28:38 And what's that? A seventh round pick? Dante Kent, D.B.? Yeah, that's what it's looking like right now. Listen, man, I don't know, I don't know what's going on. They said it's a couple weeks on Jaylor. So I think he'd be all right.
Starting point is 00:28:52 They're saying it's not a big deal, just time. But little busy, I think, you know, I think that, I think, you know, help us back out a little bit if, you know, if things was, get a little better. You know what I'm saying? get them numbers right. I'm thinking my man back might
Starting point is 00:29:08 if I started feeling a little better. You know? Then the big news, though, the great news we got is Broder Jones is back. So after eight months, eight months after sustaining a shocking season-ending neck injury, offensive tackle,
Starting point is 00:29:26 Brodick Jones took the field as St. Vincent's camp after he was medically cleared for practice. I guess right now they're working him in with the twos at the left and right tackle, I guess from the last two practices that we had, and they see him hopefully being able to get back to a starter level. Joe, that is a great thing, but 100% cleared and 100%, it's two different things. Will you? It's great news, you know, great news because you never know.
Starting point is 00:30:06 like when we said when he talked about the neck and I saw though Samuel our corner Arconter Santhe Samuel Jr. He had the same surgery and they had the same agent so he ended up meeting with him and Sante Samuel Jr. is out there flying around you know what I'm saying looking good.
Starting point is 00:30:23 So it's just giving me hope that you know, Brojik, he's trying. And what I realize and what I love about his interview though, Debo is he understands the realization of the business of the game. He understands that they is the reason why, like, it was, he was in it with Danny, with Dan Moore, you know what I'm saying, like, just being able to see the league for what it is, knowing, like, they're not just
Starting point is 00:30:44 throwing you out, but you got to show, you know what I'm saying? Because anybody can get hurt at any minute. And so I'm just loving that he's being able to be back out there. He's accepted to the fact that, like, he's not taking any hard feelings. Like, oh, no, like, why would they not accept my fifth year option? It's a business. He understands he got hurt. There's a lot of this big investment in there.
Starting point is 00:31:02 So you just got to be able to go out there and prove that you can still be able to play at a starting McAlliver. So I think his mindset, just him trying to know in that, I got to get him being 300 pounds. He says he got to put up a couple more, 15 more pounds because he wasn't able to do anything for like three months. So just his mindset, his mental,
Starting point is 00:31:21 him understanding what's going on, the depth of the line, us being able to have linemen because people are going to get hurt. It's a very long season. So being able to know like him, being able to get max reps, being able to get other guys reps in different positions
Starting point is 00:31:33 and just chugging along, just knowing that he has that mindset where he knows that he wants to go out there, he knows that he can start. McCarthy spoke on him like, he's a starting caliber dude, but just knowing that I'm happy that he's getting cleared, he's able to get onto the field,
Starting point is 00:31:49 so we're just going to be able to watch his progressions as he goes. Right. Yeah, they're going to, you know, obviously working back into it slow, so he don't get no setbacks. That's the whole reason, you know, they have a little bit of a rotation going there. Also, as we talked about,
Starting point is 00:32:02 I'm trying not to met Ehanishore. That's it. As I say right, Max Ejahasur, they actually started to work him in with some of the first team. So he's getting some first team reps in there too. And then basically, you know, the opening lineup for the offense was what it was, you know, through OTAs and minicamp. I think it's Troy. Then it's Isaac, Zach. Mason and cook on the other side.
Starting point is 00:32:39 So, yeah, I don't, I'm trying to tell you, man, I think we're going to be good. I'm feeling real good. As long as he's able to work back, you know, and it's no setbacks, you know, I feel like, I feel like we're going to be real good. I mean, I don't know. I don't know. We'll see. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:32:55 We'll see. Another big thing I think people are talking about is, I guess Mike McCarthy said, it would be no live tackling. saying like no tackling like and like listen which all got to understand is you don't actually need to tackle somebody to the ground when you say live that means i'm i'm wrapping you down to the ground and we go and we do a lot is thud up hit rap release so you break down you hit you wrap your release and you let them continue to run you're just not taking people to the ground they're not actually not go do any like tackling of any sort that just don't make no sense like joe would
Starting point is 00:33:33 What did you take from? Because they're like, oh, they're not tackling. I think it's a lot of it, like you said, too, is the safety. They're not going to be doing the tackling to the ground because a lot of that, when we would do tackling to the ground, it was the nine on sevens. It's inside. People are rolling up on each other every single time that happens. So when you get into the position where it's just now thudding up,
Starting point is 00:33:54 getting yourself into that position, basically, if you don't, you have to stop that man's forward momentum. You have to be able to put pads on pads. So there's, like, you're not just diving. around on people's legs and trying to do that. So I think thud up and doing thud drills is the same thing as making sure that you can get into that position, making sure you actually put their back on the body, making sure you stop their forward progress and then you let them go for pursuit and all of that.
Starting point is 00:34:17 So most of the time when we're saying people are doing live tackling, it's not for that long of the practice. It's a period. Right. And dudes are getting hurt three, four dudes in those seven plays. So it's like, how about we just really just throw people up getting to the right positions because sometimes it's not helping us as more than it's hurting us. Yeah, I think thudden up actually gets you in a better position to be able to make more secure and tackles.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Because now you have to get in there. You have to bend down. You have to put your head exactly where it should be in hitting rat. It's no longer let me get there and dive at it. No, like, I got to be ready to put that force into him so I can stop his momentum and driving back and then wrap up so I can secure it so he can't spin out of that tackle. So, yeah, I don't trip on that. Nothing was harder for the DVs because I'm like, when I sit right there, I'm going to mind it.
Starting point is 00:35:09 That's what I'm going to go for the legs. That's what this is what I go do my part. Why I go shoot his legs out of them, wrap him up? They're like, no, Joe, you got to square him up, stop it. Boom. And I'm getting embraced. I'm like, okay, boom, I got him. So, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:35:21 So you got to get yourself in that position for sure. Yeah, definitely. I guess they went at Aaron Rogers again asking him. I guess he dismissed any idea that he might. decide to come back for another season, he said no, zero, debate, zero. He said, I thought last year might be it. And then Mike got hired, talked to my wife, and she said, you can do another year. I said, well, we'll see if it works out.
Starting point is 00:35:50 And then it kind of all came together. D.K. was up before him, though. And D.K. was like, you know what, it's early in the year. You know, it's too early to make a decision. You know, he might not even get, he was like, he might not even get banged. No, he said, he said he might not even get a hit or touched. Like, you know, like, he might not get, no, that ain't going to happen. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Bro, like, he might not even get hit or touched. Come on, D.K., man, stop that, man. He said, he just. I'm loving, I'm loving what A.R. I'm loving with A.R.S. saying, no, no point for debate. This year he was already kind of, trying to figure out if he wanted to stay with him. So it's final swan song. You got your coach out here.
Starting point is 00:36:36 You got your receivers. Y'all running back. You and DK. Fresh, you know what I'm saying? Last year it was quick. You didn't really know each other. Get to know each other really well. And now let's see.
Starting point is 00:36:45 Yeah, they're roaming together again. They said, yep. Let's go. Let's go. And now A-Rod, for show, because all of that off-season stuff where you can do what you want to do. But it gets annoying to where everybody like,
Starting point is 00:36:57 well, what's A-Rod going to do? Is he going to come back? He's going to stay. It's going to go. It's going to come. is you going to be, and you have your time. As soon as the season ends, you get to chill, you get your time to be able to make those decisions.
Starting point is 00:37:06 But knowing now, like, soon as the season's over, guys, like all of that, that's a lot of noise. And he was doing it for the last two years. So I can only imagine just people constantly being on your head and then just being able to be like, this is my final season. I'm about to go give them all. I'm ready for it.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Yeah, yeah, I like it. Like, dude, I'm trying to tell you, man, listen, worst case, worst case for me, 13-4. Which case for me, Joe? 13. Where's case? I'm not bad at the Debo. Just because everybody's sleeping on the Steelers, for real.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Go on here. Y'all go on here and sleep. Slumber. Sleep like Sleeping Beauty did. Mm-hmm. Prince ain't nowhere in sight. I'm just trying to tell you. Yeah, I'm a carter running the practices.
Starting point is 00:37:46 No, A. No question. And let's go on up over here to your, let's go up north a little bit, man. Over here to Cleveland, man. I guess y'all, y'all actually, y'all quarterbacks and your
Starting point is 00:37:58 rookies reported on the 23rd. Yep. And then your vets reported Tuesday. So it wasn't even like a full team practice till Wednesday. Like, like, why you got your quarterbacks up there reporting like six days early? Like, Joe, what's going on? Like, why? quarterback is the most important position on the team.
Starting point is 00:38:21 And we had some young quarterbacks. And we got a quarterback that's coming off some injuries and had some stuff to prove by making the, with the big contract. trying to put their best foot forward. I love it. Get in there, quarterbacks. You should not leave. That's why you make $65 million a year.
Starting point is 00:38:37 This is not a on-season, off-season job. I'm loving to get your ass in there. I need you to know not only what the quarterback does. You got to know what all the linemen do. You got to know what all the receivers do. You got to know what the running backs do. And then the checks. You need to know all of the checks.
Starting point is 00:38:53 And after you do that, now the defenses, what are they doing? How do you wrap? recognize what these checks are. It's a whole lot more that quarterbacks have to deal with than receivers, then running backs, the linemen, the cornerbacks. Cover two, always going to be cover two, cover four, going to be cover four. Cover three is going to be cover three. So as soon as I learn all of... Starting point is 00:42:40 And listen now. I'm Jake Brennan. And on my podcast, Disgraceland, I tell the stories behind music's biggest names, the moments, rumors, and real-life events that help shape their legacy. Like the story behind Sonic Youth, that starts with downtown New York cool and ends with album art inspired by a true crime.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Sonic Youth was not fronted by a groupie hustling alpha like David Lee Roth. No, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore was an artist in love with a fellow artist who just happened to play bass in the same band with him and his other artist friends. Her name was Kim Gordon. And Thurston and Kim were every bit as cool as the couple on the cover of Goode. The same couple involved in one of the UK's darkest true crimes. Disgraceland is part of the... the exactly right network.
Starting point is 00:43:32 Listen to new episodes every Tuesday, bonus episodes Thursday, and rewinds on Sunday on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My job is going to be throwing blitzes and all of that stuff. But as a corner, I got still cover three. There's going to be somebody replacing my job. Unless I blitz, there's only certain things that can happen.
Starting point is 00:43:50 So then I start studying offense, route concepts, and that's you become so much smarter. And that's why older quarterbacks, they don't have to be fast. You just got to know what that, You got to know what's going on. Like you are walking out there your process information. And that's how when corners get better,
Starting point is 00:44:06 you don't, the defenses don't change. They're not going to invent new, like really new plays. Seven routes, post routes, slant routes, fade routes. All of the routes are the same routes.
Starting point is 00:44:15 The route tree has been the route tree. So once you start learning the game and you start learning what you got to do as a quarterback, you got to learn with the offense alignment, the receivers, the burning backs. What are you doing what the defense is doing? Why are they doing this? You start getting more comfortable.
Starting point is 00:44:29 And the more comfortable you get, the slow, they say, oh, the game started slowing down for me around year three. Game starts slowing down for me around year four. The quicker you can learn what's going on and you got your job under control. I know what I'm doing. I know what checks I got to make. Then you start going against the defense. Then you start making them. You start manipulating people to go to where you want them to go.
Starting point is 00:44:51 So with the quarterbacks coming in, they're young. They have stuff to prove. Todd Monk is like, y'all, we don't have a, we have a quarterback on the team that's making $45 million. year, but we don't have a franchise quarterback in this building right now. That I feel like that can prove us of the nose, what he got going on. Everything is, everybody in here can be taught. You know what I'm saying? Don't think you're too smart and you know too much.
Starting point is 00:45:12 I mean, I was under the assumption he believed he had a possible two franchise quarterback, but that's a, look, he's a possible two franchise, but haven't played like it in the last three years, having put it on tape last season. Like you coming in off of a, oh, all pro pro bowl, like the offensive player a year. season like no no no there's not that all y'all got to come in here and can't you can't tell me that you know something yet because what i've seen last year what i've been looking at ain't going to get the job done you know what i'm saying so come in here six days early with the rookies and let's get this install and when when the rest of the team come we're going to redo the
Starting point is 00:45:49 install quarterback now y'all just know y'all are learning it you you're not learning it you're give me my extra six days i understand what you're saying joe to do some more evaluation Yes, you try to blow my poison. That's what I'm saying. We need that. I understand, Joe. I understand. You know, I just got to give you hell, you know.
Starting point is 00:46:05 I just, that's just what I do. You know what I'm saying. I got to do a little something here and that. And it looked like y'all pup list. Damn, you ain't got no pup. Yep. Everybody out there. Everybody out there.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Now how that go. Boys out there because you know, because you know why. Because you know why. Why is that, Joe? Because them boys out there paying folks. Huh? Like, that and... Joe, Joe, I...
Starting point is 00:46:35 That... Not yet. Y'all... I ain't gonna lie. Y'all trying to make it tough. You know? Y'all trying to make it tough on us. Y'all ain't have to do that.
Starting point is 00:46:49 First off, your gay Dale picked three-year 48 million with 36 guaranteed. Okay? And then right before y'all gave him that, y'all ended up giving Denzel Ward, this is the problem. Oh! You gave that man two-year extension for 62. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:07 52 guaranteed. What you're doing? Yes, sir. Deservingly so. We're doing the right thing. We're trying to build. We got rid of me. He damn near 40, Joe.
Starting point is 00:47:18 He's not. Denzel Ward is 29 years old. He's 29 years old. He's only played eight years in the league. He's basically signed that two-year extension. Denzel Ward has done what I call a master class. The only thing that they could give enough about Denzel Ward is his injuries. He's had some concussions.
Starting point is 00:47:37 He had some soft tissues. And then during COVID, he had four games that he missed for COVID. But when Denzel Ward is on the football field, he's a all pro every time. His technique, his tackling, his smarts, his ball skills. So he's been doing nothing. And you know what Denzel Ward does? He stays out the way. You don't hear anything.
Starting point is 00:48:00 about Denzel Ward besides him coming to work and doing his job. Only things like he might be a little injury problem, but that's some of the stuff you can't help. He had a couple of cussions and a couple of soft tissues. But when I look at Denzel, you can help a concussion get your neck strong. Man, listen, I hear you.
Starting point is 00:48:16 But he's been out there for eight seasons. He's had five pro-bowls. He's been all pro three times and he's been nothing but he stays out the way. So he's bawling, he's staying out the way, and this is what you do. he signed a five-year $100 million contract.
Starting point is 00:48:33 He's been out-playing that contract. So, Debo, when he gives them, when he gets them this extension, he has two years left on this deal. This is just adding two more years. So now they got Denzel for a four-year, $94 million. That's averaging out for the next four years at $23 million to him. And the team looks good because he gets a raise. But now they get, he gets two more years of guaranteed money.
Starting point is 00:48:52 He had no more guaranteed money on his last contract. And it's a bump up for him, and the team's good. And he gets two more years guaranteed. and then if he has two more years of non-guaranteed money, making around $22 million a year. So it works out for Denzel. It works out for the Browns. You keep an amazing player that's still playing at a high level
Starting point is 00:49:09 with just a two-year extension. So they're going to have him until he's 33 years old. And I'm loving it for the Browns. They did it the right way. Denzel did it the right way. And he's straight from when I left there. They drafted Denzel Ward, and he then took it and ran with it.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Yeah, you're making the tough on us over here, man. That's smart. That was smart. Man, had two more years left. Y'all could have waited to next year to do that. They just did. They did right. Yeah, you could.
Starting point is 00:49:39 You got it. Y'all know what y'all. Miles got about it there. And then so they left some, they had some bread left on the table now, huh? Take care of the guys. Yeah, okay, okay, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Y'all had a visitor, though. Coach Prime. Hey, Coach, Coach Prime came. up, brother. I guess he was up there yesterday and he was talking to the coach. He gave him some insight, they said, you know, gave him some insight. Here's the crazy thing, man. The guy, Todd Munkin, when they asked him, he was like, it was really cool. Dion Sanders, are you kidding me? Forget that he should Shador's dad. I mean, first of all, he did an unbelievable job with Shador a great kid and obviously an elite football player hell baseball player and then as a coach i mean wow
Starting point is 00:50:33 everything that he's achieved that that was awesome then he went on to say he gave him a little bit of insight but we were up against it the general manager Andrew berry was next was next so i had to give him up to Andrew so there was some back and forth as to being about Shador in terms of how he processes personal-wise and I think competitive-wise. He got into it at the end in terms of what makes him tick, which was good. It was all good, but we've seen most of that. Most of what he said we've been able to see. Now we're, now we haven't gotten to the games yet.
Starting point is 00:51:25 that's a different animal. But at this point, what he talked about, I would have said, no, that's how we've seen it. That sounds like, to me. What sound like you, Debo? It sounds like Shadole starting quarterback. I'm just saying. That's what that sounds like you. Hey, man.
Starting point is 00:51:48 That's what I sound like, sir. Hey, it sounds like Shadot starting quarterback. But I ain't going to. Again, that's, you know, you know me. That's just me. That's just me because, you know, I do what I do. But when they asked him about the, you know, the quarterback competition, he said this right here.
Starting point is 00:52:07 We got it right here. Yeah, nothing's really changed. We anticipate alternating. First of all, four quarterbacks are going to compete. They all won't get equal reps. Obviously, we will alternate just like we did in the spring, Deshaun and Shadour, with the ones. The easiest way for me to say that, and it still won't stop you from asking, not you particularly, but everybody in general, is the first game.
Starting point is 00:52:30 We're going to have to have a start of the first game, right? I mean, ultimately, I'm not going to decide who the starter is. They decide by their play. Their play decides who the starter is. I don't have any preconceived notions of how they played in the past or how they're going to play. I only can, with my eyes, judge, and guys got to play well around them. I think we've shorted up some things up front. We've added some weapons on the perimeter,
Starting point is 00:52:55 so I think that's going to help. But they'll decide who plays. I don't decide who plays. The players decide who plays. Joe. No. What you take from that? You know, me, I like to read them between lines.
Starting point is 00:53:10 You know, I don't know. I like to read the lines. I've just read the lines there. Like, that was just, that was the lines. That was what he said, I his mouth. So I'm just, where, where do you see, who do you see being the starting quarterback? I'm just going off of, I don't even know what happened.
Starting point is 00:53:31 I know they was keeping the tracker going or who was throwing picks, who was throwing, who was making completions, and your boy was leading in the pick category, and Sador was leading in the completion category and in the touchdown category. So I'm just trying to figure out where you see, where you at with this. First and foremost, the first thing was when Dion Sanders, arrived. I respect and love that Todd Monkin is acting like a human being. Like, that is Deon Sanders. You know what I'm saying? He's respecting his career. That is the father of Shador.
Starting point is 00:54:03 You know what I'm saying? Just not trying to act like being submissive of Dion. Because that's when people like, you don't have to be all impressed, but at the same time, Dionne Sanders was a coach. He did coach his son. He did coach. It's a Hall of Fame football player in the NFL. And then was the coach of his son in college football and did good at Colorado. So just from the respect factor, I just led the way that he was being a human being and was like, damn, that is Dion Sanders. Secondly, when he talks about both of them are going to be getting reps, I think that Shador Sanders is going to probably win the job through this, through, through, through, uh,
Starting point is 00:54:38 training camp. I think that Tom Munkin is being honest where this is the thing. If it was up to the coach, then he, I think he wants to put the best player out there to play. is it going to be someone that goes over his head? Is ownership going to step in and say, hey, look, we're paying this man this money, and I think that he should be the first one to go out there? I don't know. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:55:00 So if this top monk is saying this from a legitimate space where, boom, best player is going to, best quarterback is going to take the job. We're going to have them equal reps. We're going to see what DeShon looks like. We're going to see what, we're going to see what your door looks like. We're going to go into preseason, and these reps are legitimately going to be what makes it happen. Does he throw picks? Is he looking people off?
Starting point is 00:55:20 Does he know how to run the office? Who's making our offense look like it's a professional offense? So I think that Shador is going to win the job. But I don't know if there's going to be the powers that be that might step in and be like, look, he's getting that bread. We're still paying him. So I would want him to start. So if it's close, who do you think starts? If it's close, I would want Shador.
Starting point is 00:55:48 I got 60 one half a dozen other. That's what they're looking at. Like that. I don't think it's going to be close like that. Just from how it started off training camp. I don't think it's going to be close. Yeah, I don't think it's going to be close. But if it's close for me, I'm Shadot.
Starting point is 00:56:03 I just got to go with Shadour. He's younger. He's going to have more time to improve and learn through the process. But I'm just saying, just from how complimentary he was of Coach Prime, I'm just like, yo, I just feel like, hey, we can't, we can't go no other way. The pedigree tell me I got to go that way back. Just, you know, just from the conversation, Joe. I think that when Tom Munker says that, I mean, definitely him respecting Coach Prime,
Starting point is 00:56:34 but it's going to be on the football field. I'm not, I think that's your door, if it's by, if it's a real competition, and the coaches know and the players know, they're going to see. There's going to be ways when we're like this, no. Somebody's playing, he's playing better than the, other quarterback. This, like, when you say even, I don't know where to give it, I think somebody's going to, I think she feels going to have to show that he's,
Starting point is 00:56:55 like, winning outright. Outright? I would, I would, I would, yeah, all right. That's a big word. All right. It's like, okay, I can look and just say, all right, it's done. Like, right now, just looking at what I was seeing from how they were tracking all the stuff, yeah, it's a no brain, like right now.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Like, the first few days of practice, it's a no brain. And unless he just, you know, he got, unless Watson got to warm up for the first couple of days and then, you know, he come through. But that ain't what his number has been showing. That ain't what he's been showing the last whatever time it was that he was healthy before he ended up getting hurt. But like he said, he's going to let the preseason. Maybe he gets into the, what if he get into the game and just strike out?
Starting point is 00:57:41 He just, like, go crazy. Shador, Shador, getting the game and he, you know, he played good. But why? He getting there. He just go crazy. What would you go do then? You only got three preseason games now. Remember, he strike out on the first two.
Starting point is 00:57:55 You know you ain't going to play your starter. Whoever you're looking at starting for the third game because you worried about him getting hurt. It's going to be more than these games too, Dibor. I'm telling you, leading up to, you know, a training camp, when it's going on ones versus ones, two situations of footballs, like when we got two-minute drills, like all of this practice, these real practice reps, and when we lead that practice field in the training camp,
Starting point is 00:58:17 and you go to that meeting room and your wife, watching the tape, there's going to be real, what are you looking at here? Where are these balls going? So I think that there's going to be the coaches are legitimately like watching these tapes, watching all these 70-on-7s, watching all of these one-on-ones, watching all the throws, watching the way that they manage the offense, watching the way to get in and out of the huddle, of just being like, how was this going to look? So I think if they're in a real competition, it's going to be coaches putting them in that film that we're not in. We're going to see the preseason when they get to the preseason games, it's going to be like, all right, show us what
Starting point is 00:58:46 you got. But I think the coach is going to have a decision. you know what I'm saying? By second third week, by second week of training camp, by what does this dude look on? That's going to be 14 practices. Dude, I know he said going into the first preseason game, he's going to have to name a start. And I'm assuming he's saying that that would be his starter for the start of camp
Starting point is 00:59:07 or whatever it's going to be, obviously. I would think so. But I don't think he'll have one. I think he'll be like, well, we're going to start this person this game and see how it goes. and then we're going to start the person. Oh, no, no. He's not going like that.
Starting point is 00:59:21 I'm trying to tell you, man. I really feel like that's what it's going to be, man. He's not going like that. I'm just telling you, man, I got an itch, man. I got an itch. I feel like I feel like that's just. Because I feel like Debo, once you get the quarterback the starting job, how many games?
Starting point is 00:59:36 It's going to be what, like at least four, like five games minimum. And if you pull them after five and go for another quarterback, you can't put. I'm saying the first preseason game, I don't think that starting quarterback is going to be. the starting quarterback. I think they're going to, I think it's going to be, he's going to start this one and then
Starting point is 00:59:53 so-and-so. Oh, yeah, yeah. And then he'll start the next one and then so-and-so will rotate in. I don't think they'll pick one until after the second game. That's what I'm saying. Well, I can feel that. On Raiders of the Lost podcast, we explore cinema like no one else, including huge interviews with stars like Ryan Gosling on Project Hail Mary.
