Tom Brady at Miss Tension had developed with Coach Belichick during his tenure during the end of the quarterback's time with the Patriots. In the latest edition of his weekly newsletter, yes, Brady
Starting point is 00:03:48 has a newsletter. I didn't know that. Brady briefly spent some time talking about the split from the Patriots. First, Brady said he knew it was likely he wouldn't end up finishing his career with the Patriots. His first thoughts about leaving the team happened two or three years before it actually happened. It was a
Starting point is 00:04:03 creeping decision that passively in the back of my mind two or three years before it actually happened. It was a creeping decision that livingly passive in back of my mind, two or three years until March of 2020, when the whirlwind of a few days made me realize that decision was coming sooner rather than later. After 20 years together, a natural tension had developed between where coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise, and it was kind of a tension that could only be resolved
Starting point is 00:04:28 by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities. Right. I mean, we could see that from a mile away. Everybody saw it. Everybody saw it. When that Seth Wickersham article came out? Yeah. And they're talking about the Jimmy G?
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. It's a matter of time. Well, listen, you understand that as a quarterback, why do you think Aaron Rodgers felt the way he did when they got Jordan Love? Why do you think Brett Favre felt the way they did when they got Aaron Rodgers? Yeah. The writing was already on the wall. He understood that.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Brady understood that. That's why he had to go upstairs and go to the higher up and ask, listen, I don't want this over my back. I don't want this over my shoulder. I'm not comparing the situation. But as a competitor, you, Brady, you shouldn't be worried about nothing that's coming in there at all. Because of the decisions that Bill Belichick wanted to make as far as moving on,
Starting point is 00:05:29 he was supposed to be your predecessor. Am I using predecessor in the right context? No. Damn. Predecessor means he preceded. Fuck. Oh, my bad. He came after.
Starting point is 00:05:42 What word am I supposed to use? My what? You talking about Jimmy G? Yeah. Air apparent. Air apparent. Hey, my bad. My bad. oh my man he came out what word i'm supposed to use my what you do my jimmy g yeah air apparent okay hey my bad my bad hey my bad check i'm using big i'm using words i don't even know what they mean it sounded good though it did hey but anyway you know the competitor in him understanding that you you on the tail and you on the back end obviously is listen i want to be able to play freely i want my mind free i want to i don't want to be out here being hesitant being
Starting point is 00:06:12 gun shy knowing that if i mess up y'all gonna y'all gonna start the whole you know it is only a matter of time before they start the the the rumors and the chance we want jimmy g and all that stuff so i understand that i want him gone i don't even want him here and i know that was a rob a robert craft decision and i know it was what happened was is that if you study the if you study the 49ers yeah for the most part after 10 years coach walsh you look look at Ronnie, you look at Roger Craig, you look at a lot of the guys. Only they start, and so you start, you move off a guy. The thought process was, Ocho, you move off a guy one year early as opposed to one year late. Coach Belichick had studied the history and says, you know what, guys start to taper off. And if we don't have that bridge,
Starting point is 00:07:06 we're going to be like the Pittsburgh Steelers until they got Roethlisberger from Terry Bradshaw. We're going to be like the Miami Dolphins. We're going to be like a lot of these other teams. The Buffalo Bills, Jim Kelly, until they got Josh Allen. So if we don't start a succession plan now, successor, heir apparent, whatever you want to use the term, what Jimmy G was supposed to do. Coach Belichick
Starting point is 00:07:27 says, what I've studied, what I've learned is teams wait too long to find the successor or the heir apparent to said great quarterback. I don't want to make that mistake. I want to have a guy in place, get him a couple years under his belt, push him out the door,
Starting point is 00:07:44 the guy steps in. That's what he wanted. But Tom was saying, Get him a couple of years under his belt, push him out the door. The guy steps in. Right. That's what he wanted. But Tom was saying, hold on, ma'am, I'm going to the Super Bowl damn near every other year, every second or third year. I'm still an MVP candidate. I'm still going to Pro Bowls. Right. And you talk about I'm slipping.
Starting point is 00:08:01 What are you watching? And when they redid Tom's contract and they didn't add years, they just took that bonus and gave it to him. I said, it's done. Go back and look at it. I said, it's done. I said, he's not coming back. I remember. I remember.
Starting point is 00:08:19 He ain't coming back. He's not coming back. And the grip, because here's the thing, Ocho. Uh-huh. back he's not coming back but the grip because here's the thing Ocho when you have success see as long as you don't mind who gets the credit you don't realize how successful you can be there we go it started to be a push and pull because everybody because we talked about all the time who deserves more credit Belichick or Brady Belichick or Brady there is no way to definitively tell unless they left. One left. If one leaves and
Starting point is 00:08:48 wins without the other, there it is. Tom leaves, wins a championship in his first year, gone. Okay, now, Coach Belichick, now you get a chance to answer. I ain't saying you got to win one
Starting point is 00:09:03 the next year, but you got to win. But it went the other way. He got to the playoffs like, okay, maybe he got something. But then, boom, he stepped off a cliff. Tom still played at an elite level. Won the Super Bowl. He
Starting point is 00:09:19 got to the playoffs every year. There you have it. Yeah. The reason why the Patriots won was because of 1-2. Not the only reason, but now people were willing to give him more of the credit.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Credit, yeah. And also you have to understand when 1-2 leaves, when he leaves New England, in order for Bill, Patriots, Robert Kraft to still have that continued success.
Starting point is 00:09:45 You got to have the heir apparent at the most important position on the field that touches the ball every play. You got to have one of those, huh? You have to have one of those to compete. You got to. Yes. Now, those are some big shoes you got to fill,
Starting point is 00:10:00 but boy, that's a tall task, especially when you talk about filling the shoes of the greatest of all time. Yeah, but the thing was that I'm concerned about is that Coach Belichick had an up-close-and-personal look at Tom. And he know how motivated he was by the slightest of slights. Oh, yeah. You put the biggest slight in the world on this man. It wasn't that he was drafted into the sixth round.
Starting point is 00:10:22 It wasn't that he had to start as a backup even after the greatness in which he had displayed for you for 20 years he was willing to push him out can you imagine Ocho yeah 20 years of excellence six Super Bowls all those appearances nine appearances and he said you know what we appreciate your services but we think the guy that we got behind you is better. So what do you think that was going to do for Brady? If you think he was motivated by not being the first quarterback taken or one of the middle quarterbacks taken, he was taken in the sixth round. 199. You just put the biggest target on your back.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Right. Puga Nakua nfl career is just beginning but the wide receiver has already has already has a retirement age in his mind as he entered his third season with the rams i want to retire at age 30 puka said the pro bowl wild out explained that he wants to follow similar paths to aaron donald to go out on top i think it would be super cool by the time my kids could be 18, I could be Bradley Walker. If you play this game and you sustain all those injuries and stuff like that. Don't think like that, Puka.
Starting point is 00:11:33 No, you don't. You don't. You won't have to worry about no injuries if you go back on our diet. If you go back on our diet, you know, now I'm your nutritionist. You know what you came in eating when you had that historic rookie season? You know what you was eating, right? Then all of a sudden you change it up, you know, in the off season and you got nicked up a little bit. You know why? Because of nutrition. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Okay. I played very long time, no injuries. And
Starting point is 00:12:00 I played reckless. I was all over the place. I was in the air. I was on the floor. I was running people over. No injuries. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I don't care what kind of specialist or what they give or what they put in front of you. You're going to be one of the greats. Puka also said Julio Jones is the best wide receiver in NFL history. The perfect mixture of size and speed.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Like he could run every route on the route tree. He absolutely could. And for that size, a wide receiver body, it should look like Julio Jones. Do you agree? Oh, that's a good one, huh? That's a good one. He could. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And normally guys that come out of Alabama, Ocho, the one thing they can do is run that tree. Oh, yeah. They can run that tree now. Calvin Ridley, Amari Cooper, Jerry Judy, Devontae Smith, Julio, all those guys. Calvin Ridley. All those guys can run the tree. But none of them had the size that Julio had. Yeah, he's different. Because you're looking at a guy that's 6'3", 225 pounds, dropping his hips, and that D on that comeback,
Starting point is 00:13:08 that speed out, the over, the skinny, he could do it all. When I think about it, you know who I view? Now, I'm going to get back to the question at hand. When I look at Jeremiah Smith, I see Julio Jones a little bit. I see a young Julio Jones a little bit. I see a young Julio Jones a little bit. So in comparison, when his time comes up, no hitting junior year, leaving Ohio State, I guarantee you that's going to be his NFL comparison.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Now back to Julio being, he got to be top five, maybe top 10, depending on who you ask. Yeah. Hey, I'm talking about one of yeah hey i'm talking about what you like look for me the three until i'm gonna have to reevaluate in another 10 years right but the top three for me is jerry to and randy yeah now you can debate two and three but jerry's always gonna be number one for me okay okay now you can debate two and three you like randy you like to to to
Starting point is 00:14:06 randy three right randy three randy two to three yeah so that's where it goes for me now chase jetta and some of these other guys maybe cd lamb uh uh tyreek maybe gonna have something to say about that right but man julio man, Julio was special. Julio in his prime. Yeah. I mean, guy that size, running four and three,
Starting point is 00:14:30 jumping out of the gym. Yeah. He was very, look, my thing is, Julio reminded me of, of T.O. T.O. ran angry.
Starting point is 00:14:39 T.O. played angry. Yeah. You want T.O. to catch a hitch, that corner ain't gonna tackle it. No. No. And, and he might take it to the angry. Yeah. You want T.O. to catch a hitch, that corner ain't gonna tackle it. No. No. And he might take it to the house. Yes. He might take it to the house. Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:52 You ain't never seen 81 get caught from behind. I can tell you that. He, uh, uh, uh, he would like a T.O. He catch that hit. If you ever let him face you up, you better get him while he like this here. Yeah. If he do this, and look you in your...
Starting point is 00:15:11 Come on, safety. All I'm trying to do, hey, I'm trying to shadow him. Come on, safety. Come on. I'm going to force him back inside. All right. Man, hey. Man, Julio had a stretch there, man.
Starting point is 00:15:29 He and Matt Ryan. Yeah, they was on fire. They had a really good run now. Real good run. They had a rapport. I hated that Julio had to leave. But, you know, it's like anything, Ocho. You pay, you pay, you pay, you pay,
Starting point is 00:15:45 you pay, you pay. Yeah. You don't want a Super Bowl. You're going to have to break it up. You saw what the 49ers had to do. Yeah. You see,
Starting point is 00:15:52 uh, uh, even, um, Kansas City, you know, you go, you lost Justin Reed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Remember you lost, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:00 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:00 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:01 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:01 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:01 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:01 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
Starting point is 00:16:04 uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,, LeJarius Sneed. You can't play everybody, Ocho. Yeah. You see, Joe Tooney, they had to let him go. Damn. Remember, they had Mitchell Swartz and they had Wiley. They had to let those guys go. You can't pay everybody. You just hope that while we're paying these guys, we can get a bowl or two.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Because if you get a bowl, it's worth it. It's worth it. Because they're so hard to come by. Yeah. But, no, hey. Yeah, but, hey. Everybody says that now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:41 It's different because AD was in the trenches getting doubled every day on play. And he said, man, I just, hey, I don't want to to put that kind of timing again and what you see where this receiver money going yeah hey i'm gonna play as long as they as long as they sending out checks i'm gonna play especially if i go i'm not gonna embarrass myself though okay you know what i'm saying if i'm out there if all of a sudden i go from catching 80 90 balls and they talk about hey we want you to be the fourth receiver. I'm about to die. That's it? Hey, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. I can't do that. What do you think about me going back to play?
Starting point is 00:17:12 No? Nah. It's over. How do you know? It's been over. For 15 years, it's been over. I know, but I just got the phone call off, so I'm just curious. Nah. They say you need to pay your easy pass. years that's been over. I know, but I just got the phone call off, so I'm just curious. Nah,
Starting point is 00:17:28 that's your, they say you need to pay your easy pass. They call you riding the HOV, that's the only people calling your ass. Man, ain't nobody calling you. That's a young man game, man. That lap was tough. You know what, you probably still could run straight ahead.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Oh, I can. I can run straight ahead fast as hell. It's that lateral. Yeah. Your whole thing was predicated on lateral quickness. Uh-huh. Slipping. Getting up out of there.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Dipping that shoulder. Dipping that shoulder. Just get it. Hey, because what a guy do, hey, you play it on angles. Your whole thing was to never give him your whole, don't give him this. Oh, never. I'm slipping. I'm sliding.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I'm dipping. It's hard. It's hard. You say I can't do it no more. It's hard. And that's the thing what people don't understand. Guys can still run fast. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:23 In the street. Straight ahead. people don't understand. Guys can still run fast. Oh, yeah. In the street. In the head. But as a receiver, you need lateral quickness. Well, yeah. To get up out of there. And if you don't have that lateral quickness, you got to be good.
Starting point is 00:18:36 You got to be good with your hands and your technique with somebody up in front of you. Or you got to be big like a T.O. that's played through contact. Calvin Johnson played T.O. that played through contact. Calvin Johnson played through contact.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Julio played through contact. If you're smart. That tug and pull, I still don't understand. T.O. used to do it. Brandon Marshall used to do it. Julio Jones used to do it. They welcome the contact and want you to grab. And they pull from the inside.
Starting point is 00:19:04 They pull and tug you right through. And I tried that tug and pull shit one time in practice, man. I ended up opening it on the sideline. First of all, Cho, you need to, if you think about the guys that you said that. Look how tall they are. Yeah. To be able to reach. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Now, you're talking about guys 220, 225, 230 that's able to play through contact. Yeah. To be able to reach. Yeah. Now, you're talking about guys 220, 225, 230 that are able to play through contact. Yeah. See, your whole thing is like, you're trying to play on edges. You ain't trying to get physical with nobody. Oh, no. Because, hey, if they stab,
Starting point is 00:19:40 well, hey, I show whole car to look at the other side. They got me. Well, when TJ was just the opposite. TJ wanted to play through contact. Yeah, he liked that. TJ was a big physical receiver. Yeah, he liked that. Yeah, so.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing,
Starting point is 00:20:46 technology, entertainment, and sports collide, and hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair.
Starting point is 00:21:27 And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do.
Starting point is 00:22:01 To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey,
Starting point is 00:22:53 Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me me now on Audible.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Ocho, the Giants reportedly haven't given up on Aaron Rodgers despite signing Jameis Winston. Following Rodgers' visit to the Steelers on Friday, the G-Men reportedly haven't stopped their pursuit of the 41-year-old. Jeremy Fowler reports the Giants have not given up on Aaron Rodgers even though they signed Jameis Winston. But reading the tea leaves here, it looks like the Steelers are in the pole position to potentially
Starting point is 00:23:54 get it done. The Giants signed Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal. Excuse me. Hey, just hours after Rodgers' meeting with the Steelers. Ocho, do you see the Steelers as a proper landing spot, or is it the Giants? Oh, that's a good one.
Starting point is 00:24:13 That's a good one. Me, I can't really put myself in Aaron Rogers' shoes, but if you look at the landscape of the offense, on where I would prefer to be, Malik Nabors is nice. Yeah. He's nice. That is one.
Starting point is 00:24:27 That's one good one to throw to. But you got two good ones over there with the Steelers. Correct. Me, personally, I would be choosing over there with Arthur Smith, George Pickens, and DK Metcalf. Let me get some of that. Let me get some of that. Let me get some of that. That's if I'm Aaron Rodgers. And understanding what you can do with two dynamic receivers like that,
Starting point is 00:24:50 just get the ball out your hand. That's all. Just get the ball out your hand. I'm not sure who they have in running back. This takes some of the pressure off Aaron, so he ain't back there throwing the ball 100 times a game. But if I was a quarterback, I'm trying to go over there with the Crash. I call them the Crash Hour Brothers.
Starting point is 00:25:12 The Giants doesn't make a whole lot of sense because why would you sign Aaron Rodgers and Jameis Winston and potentially... That means if you do that, Ocho, that means you're not going to get a quarterback. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Maybe they're just talking. Maybe that's all smoke, yeah. Yeah. Maybe they're just talking.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Maybe that's all smoke and mirrors. Maybe. Maybe it's all smoke and mirrors because what the Giants are going to do, they're going to need a quarterback for the future. Yes. If they sign a Jameis Winston for one year, they mean they sign a Aaron Rodgers also for one year. You got to make up your mind.
Starting point is 00:25:40 You got to make up your mind. So where did that? You got to make up your mind. So if Rodgers goes to Pittsburgh, so where does that leave Russell Wilson? Cleveland? That's a possibility. That is a possibility. That's the only place I see. Because Geno Smith is at the Raiders now.
Starting point is 00:26:03 Sam Darnold is at Seattle. I'm trying to figure out where else could he go? Who else needs a quarterback? They just put Jones and Indy to challenge Richardson. So I'm looking at the landscape. I'm trying to figure out where can he go? Yeah, that's it. That's it.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I really don't like what they did. Well, I kind of like it and I don't like it. From a competitive standpoint i really don't like what they did i well i kind of like it and i don't like it from a from a competitive standpoint i don't like what they're doing to richardson but i also like it because now that you have somebody to push you and and buying for your job maybe that gets you to play at a higher level because now you have something to worry about but also sometimes it's pros and cons to that too. But now what happens if you press? What happens if you try too hard?
Starting point is 00:26:50 What happens if you try not to make mistakes instead of just playing freely? I think it'll do more harm than good when you, I don't think they like Anthony Richardson for the future. Oh, Joe. They knew he was a reclamation project. He was not a high completion percentage guy in college. He wasn't a high. He came in. His completion percentage was lower than Tebow's.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And we know Tebow did not have a great completion percentage. I'm talking about in the NFL. I'm just the facts. Right. Just the facts. And the mere fact that they went out and got signed, Jones, what's his name?
Starting point is 00:27:29 What's his first name? Daniel Jones. Yeah. What does that tell you? And they gave him 14 million. How are they going to pay the backup more than they pay the starter? Right. What are they telling you,
Starting point is 00:27:38 Ocho? Yeah. They tired of your bull jive. Uh-huh. 14 million. You see what they gave James Winston? Backup money? You see what they gave him on the backup money?
Starting point is 00:27:52 I have a question. Stop talking about Cousins. Cousins was brought in to be a starter. He happened to be the backup because he lost his job. Can you answer me something? Why did they give James Winston one for eight or two for eight? Was it one for eight or two for eight?
Starting point is 00:28:10 Two for eight. Okay, so why they gave him 14? Why do you think? They surmise he's going to be the starter. No, or does it have anything to do with age? No, because here's the thing, Ocho. The guy's like, hold on, if I'm coming in, because they want you to know.
Starting point is 00:28:30 They want Anthony Richardson to know. Stop telling me to be your backup. Did you see what we paid him? We paid him more than you. Now, all this come late, leave early. Right, right, right. All this stuff that you've been doing, it ain't going to go no more.
Starting point is 00:28:44 I got a question. Go ahead. Hold to go no more. I got a question. Go ahead. Hold on. Hold on. I got a question for you. Who's the backup in Indy right now? Daniel Jones. Now, would the Daniel Jones show us
Starting point is 00:28:55 the last two places he was at? He didn't show us nothing in Minnesota because he didn't get here. But in the Giants. My point exactly. So with the Giants, he had flashes. He had flashes of brilliance. I'm not even going to say he didn't lie.
Starting point is 00:29:07 I'm not going to lie to you. But obviously, the Giants were in a position where it was either Barkley at a position that they don't value or it was Daniel Jones. And they decided to pay Daniel Jones. But the small similarsides and what we saw from him, I mean, he ain't the goddamn answer. And that's no disrespect to him. He's not the answer. But I think it's a good thing.
Starting point is 00:29:35 Again, like I said, there's pros and cons to it. You bring in some competition. Most players, if you're competitive, oh, man, this sucker ain't finna beat me out of my job. No way. He ain't finna beat me out of my no way you ain't finna beat me out my job i i welcome you i welcome this challenge you're talking about you don't believe in me i got you hold on i mean i wish they would have thought about draft bringing somebody in ocho you and your third you about to be in your third year and they bring in a quarterback in ocho man
Starting point is 00:30:03 please yeah that better be year 12, year 14. Now, that's different. You know the third year is you're making a break a year, right? Yes. The third year at any skill position is the year you have arrived, where it's going to let us know if you've arrived or not. Either you got it or you don't by that point. So I'm assuming right now the Indianapolis Colts feel, you know what,
Starting point is 00:30:25 we don't feel Anthony Richardson has it just yet, so we're going to bring in someone else that maybe can take over. But what we saw from the person they're bringing in to take over at one year for 14 million ain't the MF answer either. But here's the problem that you're running against. Anthony Richardson, they're like, I got to make a decision. You see what quarterback's making after the third year? Okay, I see what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I need to know. Right. I can't see. I can't invest $300 million, and I'm still. You can't still be a project. Right. With $300 million guaranteed with that kind of money. You can't, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:31:06 So they got to make a decision and if he's not I got to go back into the draft because I'm not going to pay him 300 million right I'm not you see what you see what you you just saw what Joe what uh uh uh uh Josh Allen got well wait wait wait wait come on we can't do that now. We can't do that. Now, I understand what the quarterback market is, but Anthony Richardson, when it's his time to get paid, he's not going to be one of the quarterbacks that reset the market like a Josh Allen or Joe Burrow. Let's see what C.J. Stroud did.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Oh, now C.J. Stroud is different. That's my point. Now you're seeing my point where if he's the guy, I've got to pay this number. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all I'm saying. Okay. Now, being the starter and having to pay for actual play is two totally different things.
Starting point is 00:31:56 But still, even if that, you're going to have to pay him in excess. Is he going to be worth? Okay, Sam Darnold got three years, 105 million. Are you going to pay him 35 million a year Ocho and still be uncertain yeah see
Starting point is 00:32:11 the quarterback that mark see Ocho you can't pay that guy 5-6 million dollars to be your starter it's in the 30s yeah
Starting point is 00:32:20 yeah hey ooh hey you're in a tough spot I'm hoping this is his year. I'm hoping this is his year. You got to get it. Hey, and I know you're going to see this. Take it in stride, baby.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Take it as a challenge. Got to. What are they looking for? Dak is on the cusp of passing Romo. Dak needs six games this season to jump Tony Romo to have the second most career starts in the franchise history, trailing only Troy Aikman. That's a lot of mileage. He'll be 32 and has missed 30% of the last five years.
Starting point is 00:32:56 And this year, the Cowboys invest in a potential heir. Now, remember, Cooper Rush is gone. He's in Baltimore. Yes, sir. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. With the way Jerry Jones operates, I have no idea what they're going to do.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I can't even tell you. I know Dak has missed 30% of playing time due to injury, unfortunate injuries, but this is football. It's a contact sport. It's a violent sport. Injuries are going to happen. Injuries happen at every position. Sometimes, even though you try to prevent it,
Starting point is 00:33:26 it's almost impossible. The NFL has done all they can do to make the game safer. Injuries still happen. And they're going to continue to happen. Yeah, always, always. And as far as them finding an heir, it ain't nothing out there to look for
Starting point is 00:33:40 or find right now anyway. True. It's not. It's not. And that is only 32 i'm not sure how long he would want to play but he got a long way to go especially at the quarterback position fighting the air if you're gonna do it it ain't right now so what are you gonna do m.a look ocho that make it 60 mil 60 mil Ocho I need championship I need a championship game I need to get to the Super Bowl
Starting point is 00:34:11 playoff yeah yeah more than playoffs I can't be one and done I can't get just to the divisional round Ocho what am I getting for that 60 million that 249.5 million dollars that's guaranteed what do I get for that well listen that, that $249.5 million that's guaranteed? What do I get for that? Well, listen, that $60 million, obviously, you wouldn't have to pay that.
Starting point is 00:34:29 You paid him ahead of time. You made him play out his whole contract. And listen, this is what you get. This is what you get. Dallas did that. Jerry did that. Steven Jones did that. And they're doing it with Micah.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Oh, man, listen. One thing about a cat wait a minute I forgot to quote that fast what about a cat? you gonna lay on his feet? nah I'm trying to use the analogy
Starting point is 00:34:55 a leopard never changes stripes if they done it if they done one thing one way all the time regardless of who the player is they gonna continue to do it the same way. That's why you keep getting the same results.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I'm going to do everything at the last minute. Well, you can't do it. Well, here's the thing. You do that, and the guy, you got to pay extra. Again, $60 million. You're doing that with Micah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:23 You see the market exploded? Yeah. Yeah. You see the market exploding? Yeah. And listen, while the market exploding, they're going to have to make him the highest paid anyway at his position. Mm-hmm. I don't know what you're waiting on. You might as well get it done now. Jamar Chase brought his dream Lamborghini this week after his historic deal. Check out this ride, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:35:41 Yeah. He says he's dreamt of buying this car for over 10 years. He raced T. Higgins around Miami. Ocho. Yeah. He says he's dreamt of buying this car for over 10 years. He raced T Higgins around Miami. Ocho, how come they didn't call you? You got a whip, Ocho? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Is that a McLaren? Is that a McLaren that T got? Yeah, T got a green McLaren. I was with Chase before I left to go to New Orleans to watch Alvin Ailey.
Starting point is 00:35:59 So Chase was with me. I saw it. Very nice Lambo. Remember, I had a Rosa, too, during my plan days obviously i have a ferrari now but that's too much that's too much car and it's too loud for me anyway you know you get to a certain age you don't want to hear that kind of
Starting point is 00:36:13 noise yeah it's a beautiful thing in person uh you know chase was at my grandma house okay we sat there for two hours man we talked about talking about the deal talking about the contracts we talked about man We talked about everything. So it was a good time. I'm a Ferrari guy. I mean, no disrespect to Lyle. I'm a Ferrari guy. They got that new Ferrari.
Starting point is 00:36:32 What's that new Ferrari? They got a supercar now, Ocho. I think they said they're making $799 and they're $4 million. Right. Wait, wait, wait. Come again? $4 million.
Starting point is 00:36:44 Man, go ahead, man. Man, look here. Four million. Man, go ahead, man. Man, look here. I ain't got nothing. I can't buy the car no time soon. Yeah, I mean, we in the same boat. I have enough. I got a 2013 Range Rover. Got less than 37,000 miles on it.
Starting point is 00:37:01 Hey, do you even drive that? The F80. They got the F80. It's a supercar, right? About 1,200 horsepower. You don't even need all that. I'm just saying. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:37:15 I'm saying unless you're a car collector, you don't need that. Unless you are a chic or you're over there in Dubai or a car, now I can see that's a different kind of money. Let me tell you why I can't see it.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Because I can't see $4 million. That's why I can't see it. All you need is an F-A- $4 million for no damn car? You crazy? Listen, I got a simple F-A spider. That's enough. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:41 One day, a Sunday, a Saturday, I want to go out, hear the noise, enjoy, pull up to a brunch spot, eat, enjoy, smoke my cigar, go home. Outside of that, I can't do it every day. There's too much noise, huh? Well, I just thought I got— That noise is aggravating. The heir to the Red Bull fortune just bought the former F1 Egglestone. He bought his collection.
Starting point is 00:38:04 $650 million. My goodness. I mean, he got Michael Schumacher's. He got the Michael Schumacher's that he won his seventh title. Mickey Louder. I mean, he got... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:18 Yeah. I could imagine. Even if I had $4 million, which I don't. Even if I had $4 million, which I don't. Even if I had $4 million, and let me reemphasize that again, I don't. You can't buy that for the vinyl company. Hold on, but wait, if you are an extensive car collector like the J. Lynn and Rick Rosses, then you would. Let me tell you what I'm extensive.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Money collector, and I ain't got $4 million. That's what I'm trying to collect i'm trying to collect money and i ain't collected enough of it yet but yeah look i ain't got no problem with that don't you look you and i both when we grew up and we saw people purchasing things man 20 000 ain't no way i'll pay 20 000 for that right right right right when you get it's easy to say what you won't do. When you ain't got it. Because when you can't do it. Right. But when you can, you do things that you never thought you would because you didn't think you'd be in this position.
Starting point is 00:39:15 Position, right. So, but no, congratulations. Enjoy it. Yeah. That's the whole purpose of it. You might buy yourself something. What's the purpose of working as hard as you can get
Starting point is 00:39:30 at least one or two things that you enjoy? Be it a car, be it a watch, be whatever the case may be. Enjoy it. Listen, enjoy the fruits of your labor, but don't get lost in the lifestyle. Don't get lost and become handicapped to the lifestyle in general. It's okay to enjoy the fruits of your labor because you work hard to get lost in the lifestyle. Don't get lost and become handicapped
Starting point is 00:39:45 to the lifestyle in general. It's okay to enjoy the food, see labor because you work hard to get where you're at. Yeah. You know, I had to give Chase that talk. I talked to T Higgins the following day.
Starting point is 00:39:55 You know, don't get lost in it. You can enjoy it. There is nothing and I know all the NFL players going to see this. Chase, I know you're going to see this.
Starting point is 00:40:04 T Higgins and anybody else that's going to get paid. Micah, you next. There is nothing you can buy. I don't care how much money your owners pay you. Nothing you can buy that is more valuable than your name. Nothing. When you get out that car and you take off them clothes and you take off that jewelry and you look in the mirror, boy, that's the true value, boy. You hear me?
Starting point is 00:40:27 You ain't got to do nothing to impress nobody. When you go to the club, you ain't got to pop no bottles. You ain't got to buy no sections. Huh? Because all the chicks, they done Googled how much you making already. You ain't got to do Nathaniel. Listen to me. I'm telling you, I've been in the game 40 years.
Starting point is 00:40:43 And still got all my chicken. All right. Hey, you got to talk for me. I got to pee-pee. Go. But, hey, Chase, you were in that one, bro. You say you've been thinking about this car for 10 years. There you are.
Starting point is 00:41:01 You got your rookie contract. Put that up. Hey, I'm going to get me something nice. Got him a Lambo. It is nice. A fake C.J. Stroud got into a Houston rodeo for free for pretending to be Stroud. He even had the Texans fans taking pictures with him. Ocho, look at this.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Hey, that's funny. They had to put us smooch out the door. Wait a second. The security is letting us in with my camera. Because I couldn't go to the front door. No good? Hey, excuse me. My dad was expecting a song. And because of your personal life,
Starting point is 00:41:42 I'm not going to do that. I'm going to go to the bathroom. Alright, can you take a seat? I just got an incident rodeo. 4-3. I'm looking like C.J. Stroud. Why the hell would C.J. Stroud be wearing his jersey in public? Or his shirt in general. I mean, you would have to be a true, a true football fan.
Starting point is 00:42:19 A true football fan to actually know, man, stop playing. I ain't no C.J. Stroud. Now, you do look like it, and you can fool a whole lot of people, that don't know exactly who he is, but just know, all right, I know he looks like the quarterback,
Starting point is 00:42:34 but I don't know if it's really him or not. So that's why he was able to get away with that. But listen, a true football fan, you ain't fooling nobody. You ain't fooling nobody. No. I'm like, bro.
Starting point is 00:42:49 I mean, have you ever worn your jersey out in public? Me? Yeah. Absolutely not. Hell nah. Absolutely not. I mean, all the time, pep rally. Were you at high school? You got a pep rally? High school pep rally. Yeah, I remember
Starting point is 00:43:03 them days. Yeah. I had a pep rally. I used to wear that I remember them days yeah hey I had a pep rally I used to wear that thing all day all day in school yeah you know that don't you hey game day boy don't tell me
Starting point is 00:43:12 that they had that number two walking through the hallway skipping class that was me yeah you know that was what time you know hey
Starting point is 00:43:21 the girl with your Letterman jacket you know what I'm saying don't you you got a Letterman jacket? Yeah, yeah. Beach High. I don't know where that.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Matter of fact, my ex from high school, she still got my Letterman jacket. That would be a nice gift to get back if I could get it. If I could find out where she at. I don't know where she at. And then, you know, we got all them patches down there. What is like region champs? you know, so forth and so. State champs, you know. Man, this Joe got a whole, this Joe got a whole, a whole jersey.
Starting point is 00:43:58 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir?
Starting point is 00:45:21 No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today.
Starting point is 00:45:49 The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know.
Starting point is 00:47:10 As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. A $20 million roster bonus is earned five days after Higgins put pen to paper. The only true full guarantee at signing is a $10 million 2026 offseason roster bonus.
Starting point is 00:47:44 The Bengals have a practical matter, a year-to-year option, that can pay him $35.9 million for 2025 if he dresses for every game and earns $2 million per game roster bonus, and they can move on before the 2026 base salary becomes fully guaranteed. It's not guaranteed for injury because the $10 million guaranteed 20 to 20, 26 roster bonus has offset language. They likely owe him nothing. If they were to cut him after one year,
Starting point is 00:48:14 since he likely make more elsewhere. Yeah, man. Listen, one thing about it, that language, that language always get tricky. Why that language that they put in there,
Starting point is 00:48:23 it always get tricky. And the way you just said it, listen, I'm, I'm, I, listen, I'm, oh, man, I don't even know what to say. I don't even know what to say. I'll help you out. He wanted to be there. Because this is a bull job contract. You know it. That's why you speak.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Listen, man. I'm happy to pay. He wanted to be there. I'm happy to pay him a dollar. He wanted to be there. I'm happy to pay him a dollar. He wanted to be there. I mean, I can't be mad at him, Ocho, because that's his decision. He wanted to be there. He wanted to play with Joe.
Starting point is 00:48:54 He wanted to play alongside Chase. That's the only team. That's the team that drafted him, and he felt some sort of loyalty. But everybody that heard what I just read, y'all know that contract is bulljacked. But that's what he wanted. So, Ocho, we can't be mad. That's not us. what I just read. Y'all know that contract is bulljacked. But that's what he wanted. So I can't, Ocho, we can't be mad.
Starting point is 00:49:08 That's not us. Listen. I don't know who your attorney was, but my agent would have never let me sign this contract. I had you. I had the shark. I had you.
Starting point is 00:49:16 I had you. I had you. But listen, I'm going to be happy for him. Regardless of what's in that language, the band is back together. I don't like the business side
Starting point is 00:49:26 of things don't that's why i was so passionate about it from you know when we were talking about it when i was on espn when we on here you know we talking about it i was upset i didn't like the first time they tagged them i told you because to me it was a slap in the face now for the people that are part of the bangles organization the people that are fans of it i understand the business side of things. That's the side I don't like. Because when you tag me, they let me know, you don't value me long term. You know what?
Starting point is 00:49:52 Normally, when the team tags you, you know what? We betting against you, even though you're a part of us. I'm betting against you. That's what it tells me. Again, I love my Bengals. I love the fans but the nature of the business is the one part i do not like which is why i played the game like a little kid because i want to make sure i kept it fun for me so i didn't have to worry about that side of it because at that side
Starting point is 00:50:19 of it it gets nasty read what you just wrote. Chat, you just heard it. I don't like that side of things. I like the fact that the band is back together. I like the fact that he got his money. Now, with the language that I just heard, ain't no telling what's going to happen. Ain't no telling what their plans are after this season. So, I'm going to leave it at that.
Starting point is 00:50:41 I ain't going to say no more. I'm just happy my dog got his money. You hear me? That's it. Yep. Got ain't going to say no more. I'm just happy my dog got his money. You hear me? That's it. Yep. Got some money. He got some money. But like I said, Ocho, for me, I can't be mad because that's his decision.
Starting point is 00:50:58 And at the end of the day, the agent can put forth, it's like, okay, this is what they're offering. This is what we're going to counter back at. Hopefully, you this is here this they're here we're here hopefully we land here because you know you want to try to pull somewhere to the middle oh joe but at the end of the day this is team decision because at the end of the day the agent works at the behest of the player yeah team has their negotiator. Player has their negotiator. You get in. I don't want to hear anything
Starting point is 00:51:29 because a lot of times the agents shield you from all the negative stuff they're playing. I promise you, they're saying a lot of what people are saying. He's a number two. He's not a number one. Blah, blah, blah. Rock is shielding him for that. Hey, they said, look, they want to pay you. We're just trying to get you a number that they can digest
Starting point is 00:51:47 and it fits under the cap while giving you the money that they feel you deserve while being able to go out and get other players also. So I get it. Like I said, I believe T wanted to be there. T gave them a discount. Chat, like I said, Ochoa and I don't really need to add anything else about that because at the end of the day, this was T's decision. At the end of the day, Ochoa comes down to T.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Listen, we got to get it done. Long is happy. I talked to him. He's happy. You know what you get. You got one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Top three. Right now.
Starting point is 00:52:24 You know what you get. But we got to get it done. We got to get it done. We got to come out. You're a bingo fan. I mean, look, you played there. There's a sense of loyalty because you played there. You played there for a better part of a decade.
Starting point is 00:52:41 And so a lot of your roots, people associate you with being a bingo. Yeah, you had the one year in New England and other things, but that's not where they associate you. Not at all. They're not.
Starting point is 00:52:53 You didn't have a career. It's funny. It's like, I ain't never seen anything like this, but people associate Peyton Manning with the Broncos,
Starting point is 00:53:01 even though he played the largest part of his career in the Indy. He played 14 years, played the largest part of his career in Indy. He played 14 years, if I'm not mistaken, in Indy. He played four years in Denver and more people. He lives in Denver. His home base is in Denver. You see him talking about Denver.
Starting point is 00:53:20 You see him at the Denver games. The only time I've seen him go back to an indie game, and Chad, y'all can correct me if I'm wrong, is when they put the statue outside of him in front of Lucas Oil. Other than that, Peyton's at the Broncos game. Hey, well, hey, Matt, speaking of, hey, I got a question. Yes. I want me a statue right there in front of Petit Court Stadium.
Starting point is 00:53:43 They ain't got nothing to do with me. I know they ain't got nothing to do with you. How much do you think it costs for me to put it out there? They ain't going to put it out there. I'm going to put it out there. I'm going to pay for it and just put it out there. That's private property. That's private property.
Starting point is 00:53:57 Who property do you belong to? Mike Brown. I am part of the family. Let me tell you something. If I had a knife right now And I was to cut If I was to cut my wrist right now You know what color I bleed? Black and orange
Starting point is 00:54:14 Chocolate Negative Matter of fact Hey, Mike Brown Troy Katie Duke Tobin I'm going I'm going to wait until everybody's going.
Starting point is 00:54:26 In the middle of the night, I'm going to put my own statue out there, about eight foot tall. Eight foot tall with me toe tapping on the sideline. I think the people of Cincinnati would love it. In Denver, we got a monument park where all the guys that have their numbers, like not numbers and tires, but have their name up in the ring of fame, you're in the park. I don't want to be in the park. I want to be right outside the stadium.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Like you could come by, you could rub my head or something for good luck before you go into the game. DK Metcalf spoke to Marshawn Lynch about leaving Seattle and to play for the Steelers the grass is greener on the other side Mocho how excuse me
Starting point is 00:55:12 considering the Steelers doesn't have a quarterback how can he be so sure that the grass is greener on the other side I'm not sure but my grandma always said the grass is greener on the other side depending on
Starting point is 00:55:23 who's watering it so now you got now you got now you got to hold on to that people gonna hold on to that clip now always said, the grass is green on the other side depending on who's watering it. So now you got to hold on to that. People are going to hold on to that clip now. They're going to go back to that clip. Now it don't matter who the quarterback is. Now there are two different types of receivers. There are receivers
Starting point is 00:55:38 that need a quarterback to elevate their play. And there are receivers, it doesn't matter who that quarterback their play will always remain at the highest level. Right. So now you get to show us which one you are, brother DK. You know,
Starting point is 00:55:52 I love you to death. I love you to death. And I hope what you say is right. The grass being green on the other side. Ain't a whole lot of, ain't a whole lot of wide receivers that can play through bad quarterbacks. DeAndre Hopkins might be the best one I've ever seen. Quarterback carousel out this world, and then nothing changed.
Starting point is 00:56:11 Not an ounce of production. Case Keenum, Hoyer, Brock Osweiler. Obviously, he had Deshaun for that great stretch, and he and Deshaun was great, but it didn't matter to quarterback. DeHop put up those numbers. Unbelievable. And so we're going to find out, like you said, Ocho. We're going to find out if DK, what he said, that the grass is greener.
Starting point is 00:56:36 Because, you know, look, I think the thing is you get upset. You spend time there. You ask for a contract. They won't give it to you, but you had to go somewhere else and get it. But, you know, they traded. Me, I don't get to trade. I don't get trading Sam Darnold because I don't believe Sam Darnold is a better quarterback than Geno Smith. That's just me personally.
Starting point is 00:56:55 And then you're like, you trade Geno. You cut Lockett. You trade DK. Now you left. Now you bring in. And great. I think it's the same coach that called plays. I think Clint Kubiak
Starting point is 00:57:07 is the OC. He was in his ear in Minnesota, Ocho. I know Clint when he was about this big. His dad was my quarterback, and he's also my offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak. But the decision that they made
Starting point is 00:57:24 in Seattle, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But guess what, Ocho? It don't need to make sense to me. It just needs to make sense to them. Damn, man. Listen, I'm hoping it will work out. And I'm thinking it is going to work out.
Starting point is 00:57:38 I like the dynamic duo. I like DK and George Pickens. You know? Hey, listen, two of my favorite crash-out receivers. You know what's going to happen if they don't get the ball? Oh, they're going to get it. They're going to get it.
Starting point is 00:57:53 Arthur Smith is going to make sure they get it. They're going to make sure they get it. Well, why did he make sure George Pickens get the ball last year? Hey, man, listen, you know they're rolling covers to him. Now it's a different ball game. Now it's a different ball game.
Starting point is 00:58:10 Okay. I hope you're right. I sure hope you're right. I'm Michael Kasson, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company.
