safe. Guys, preseason is officially here with all, everybody's going to be playing this week.
And we're going to kick it out with the Titans. They beat the 49ers 1913. Cam Ward did not play
particularly well, guys. It's the preseason. I don't want to read too much into it, but because
everybody is really, really simplistic, the offense is simplistic. The defense is really
simplistic. So it should be just pitching catch. Five or 12 pass in Ocho, you say we're not going to
to read too much into it.
What do you take away from this ballgame if you're the Tennessee Titans and Cam Ward?
Well, listen, Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans, what I would take away from it as a head coach,
I want to see my veteran players, no MAs, no misassignments.
Can you run basic fundamentals of our offense and not make mistakes?
Can we get a drive together?
Can we get a series together, you know, first down, second down, third down, convert and keep a series
going, something like that.
And it didn't look, it didn't look right, but this is what you expect.
This is what the preseason is for.
One thing about it, and I say it all the time, Joe, I'm not sure how it is with basketball, unc.
You can practice it 100 times.
You can practice 100 times.
And when you're playing the game, it's completely different.
The speed of the game, being able to process information is completely different.
Everybody flying the game is much faster as it is as opposed to practice.
That's why I'm all for the veteran players always playing in the preseason instead of trying to go from zero to 100 in week one.
because you need games like this to make those mistakes,
to get the cobwebs out so you get a little bit more comfortable,
not only familiar with your offense,
but defensive players being able to read and react and be on point.
Yeah.
I agree.
I agree, Ocho.
Go ahead, Joe.
Hey, I thought, yeah, I didn't think Cam Thoodle.
I ain't think he played great, but just the first preseason game.
But I thought Tennessee came out and they looked more ready,
especially, you know, their first 95-yard drive.
Look, y'all see my boy Tony Pollard, the ex-Caboy.
out there you see him out there do it in one too.
So, but outside of that, I thought San Francisco clearly, you know, tonight was really evaluating guys,
Uncle Ocho.
You know what I mean?
Because you got Matt Jones ain't playing.
You got Brock Purdy who wasn't playing.
But they had guys out there who, you know, especially in the preseason.
You don't really know what to expect from some of these guys.
And I just felt I just felt the Niners were just really evaluating guys this first game.
And they'll probably pick it up as a preseason continues.
I thought the Niners played.
They moved the ball well.
Yeah.
It was just they weren't able to finish off drives.
Oh,
you talked about being able to finish off drives as they relate to points.
And I didn't think they did a very good job of that.
I thought they had some good drives.
Guys threw the ball really well.
Guys made some tough catches.
They ran the ball okay.
They miss them.
I would say there's Martinez in a situation.
Don't make a bad situation worse.
Well, you know you can't step out of bounds 14 yards behind.
Now, you got to try to kick it down 70 yard down field goal.
Come on, man.
Throw that ball.
Throw that ball away.
This ain't, you're not Daniel Jones.
Not Daniel Jones.
You're not Patrick Mahomes.
That's not your, that's not in your repertoire, bro.
Coach, I mean, if he threw that ball away,
I'm sure Kyle Shanahan in meeting,
quarterback coach in the meeting,
office and court, they say, son,
that this is how we win ball games.
You see, you could have easily taken a sack.
You could have easily got an intentional grounding,
but you was smart, you did a great job.
Hey, you found a receiver.
You sailed it over his head, and guess what?
Now we got a manageable field goal.
This right here gets us beat, son.
This gets us beat.
We can't have this.
But like you said, Joe and Ocho,
I thought Tennessee, especially the first drive.
After the first drive, they were kind of like health or skeletal,
kind of herky jerky.
But that's to be expected, as you guys said,
the preseason, and I'm with you, Ocho.
I like, I wanted to play.
I felt any time like, man, man, we got to go out there.
I felt as a veteran player,
that was an opportunity for me to work on my craft.
that's just the way I felt.
I needed somebody other.
I needed to wear those pads.
I needed to sit down in those shoes.
I needed to have somebody bump and bump me and push me and shove me.
And so I could get used to the field of the game.
Yes.
Because it would have been very, very hard for me to go out there and not play any preseason games
and then go out there and just go 100 miles an hour in the regular season.
I'm going to tear something.
I ain't going to, I ain't been a lot.
Because think about it, even in NASCAR, Ocho, what they do?
They let you go around the track and get those track.
And warm up.
Worming those tires up.
Yeah.
Hey,
okay,
Ocho.
Yes.
And I know it's a little different
in football
because it's almost,
it's almost like a career ending play
every time in football.
It means a collision.
Yes, sir.
And basketball,
guys don't really,
I mean,
when I was young,
bro,
when I was coming up,
even when I was playing in Atlanta,
I ain't miss no preseason games,
man.
I'm out there trying to,
I'm trying to get money.
I'm trying to get mine off.
You hear me?
I've been working all something
on my game,
bro.
I'm trying to come out here and show something.
And I think, I think these young guys, what's the, what's the quarterback who played for Niners tonight?
Martinez, yeah.
Yeah.
He's trying to prove that, you know, he can play on this level, bro.
You know what I mean?
And you get that a lot of times with these young guys.
They come out.
They force plays.
They force passes because they want to show they belong.
It's just, it's human nature.
And you know what, I felt like I needed to play because my uniform felt tight to go out there.
Damn, I say, well, damn.
Either they shrunk this uniform, but I'm getting fat or something.
Right.
But I needed to feel, I need to be able to stretch and move around in my uniform
and get used to wearing those pads with that tight-ass jersey on it.
I needed that.
Yeah.
And I really appreciate it.
I like, you know, I understood that it's totally different now,
that I was going to get those 10 plays in the first game,
probably get another 20 in the second game.
The third game, we're probably going to the half,
and maybe the first series of the third quarter,
And if we look like some bulljib,
you're gonna go to the damn fourth quarter.
Yeah.
But you're gonna put something to get back
gonna make you put something on tape
that he can be proud of.
Yeah.
Or otherwise, hey, you might mess around
and get a series in the last game
if you ain't careful going out there,
bulljiving.
Oh yeah, but that was just me.
But now I think because the money is so great
that they play these players, don't Joe,
they run, they don't wanna hurt him?
But I'm like, so what happens?
He comes out there the first player
of the regular season game and he'd get hurt.
Then what?
Listen, you look it around like, man,
maybe he should have gave him.
some reps. I just think guys need to play some. I'm not saying you play a whole damn game,
but I'm saying guys need to get some repetitions before they go out there and play a whole game
on Sunday. Yeah, especially players that are healthy, Uncle Joe, players that are healthy, you know,
especially your veterans, they need to go out there and get acclimated. They need to go out there
and get their feet wet. I don't, I don't care how long you've been playing the game. There's nothing
like the speed of real active play on a Sunday when the bullets are flying, you're playing against
somebody different. It's nothing like practice. So I'm all for people actually playing in the
preseason. I was always one that wanted to play. Obviously, I told you and Joe this story many
of times during the preseason, I forced Marvin Lewis to call it, you know, time out before because
I didn't want to come out the game because I wanted to continue to get to get that rhythm
and get to the speed of the game and whoever was in front of me. But outside of that, the preseason,
I don't want people to get too caught up in the preseason. It's just evaluation, not for the
starters, but for those that are trying to make this team, maybe not the team that they're on
right now, but their resume, they're putting on tape a resume for themselves to get picked up
somewhere else if things don't work out for their current team.
And I didn't work on my breathing.
Go ahead, Joe.
And when you look at it, you know, I want to see guys play too, Arcan Ocho.
Don't mean they got to play the whole damn game.
Give us a few drives.
Give us a few series to where we can really see something.
I mean, you know what I mean?
Like, I'll be locked into the game, bro.
and when I was playing Uncle Ocho,
it was hard to keep me off the court, bro.
It was hard to keep me off the court.
I just, I thoroughly enjoyed, and I love what I did,
and I just love to see guys come out and compete.
Yeah, I mean, I wanted to go as long as John was going,
as long as the starter was going.
I'm cool with that.
I'm cool as going as long as he's going.
Yeah.
I mean, because I did to get my timing with him.
I need to look, and we had a great report
because I had been playing with him for so long,
and I kind of knew what he was thinking.
He kind of knew what I was thinking,
but still,
need to get out there and get that.
And I need to work on my breathing, man.
Hey, I mean, you out there and you out, uh,
hey, hey, 84, get your hands off your knees.
Ain't no air down there.
Say, sure it is.
Yeah.
I see raccoons and squirrels.
I see bugs down here.
Somebody getting there.
Hey, you're lying to me.
You're lying to me.
You're not doing there.
Boy, I ain't heard that in so long, well.
Hey, hold a girl.
I ain't heard that in so long.
Hey, that first preseason game of two, boy, you'd be winded out there, though.
It don't matter how much.
It don't matter how much shit you in.
But I'll be blowed.
Hey, Joe, the funny thing about it,
the funny thing about it is, Uncle Joe,
it doesn't matter how good a shape you may think you are.
No, you're in that kind of shape.
When you pre-seasoning?
Hey, hey, because in football, obviously,
it's more contact, but in basketball,
once you get guys leaning on you, pushing on you.
It's a lot different.
Versus you running dummy offense out here
every damn day going over the offense and sense.
Man, listen, we need some pressure out here.
Yeah.
And like you said, leaning on it.
So imagine you're trying to block a man
that 300 pounds and you...
And then you are...
Ugh.
Uh-uh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
You're not breathing when you're doing all that.
Hell now.
That's what people don't understand.
No, not one breath, get taken.
No.
Hey.
Hey, get one more.
No, I'm on fumes.
I ain't got one more.
Let me come to the sideline.
Let it get it.
Let it, let it get this one.
But no, but I thought, look.
thought, look, and I think the thing is that what you want to do is that you want to build.
Obviously, Cam would have liked to throw the ball better five or 12 because normally it
should be routine pitch and catch, especially a game of this magnitude where everything is
vanilla. Now, it seems to be now Ocho.
Teams are bliss and more.
They used to bliss like the hell of the people now.
Yeah, and in the preseason, they normally don't blitz, huh?
Obviously, you know, you see cover one, you see cover three, occasionally you see cover two,
but they allow you to run your basic vanilla offense.
I've seen a lot of bliss and maybe that is a good thing for the for the young folks,
for the young folks, especially the receivers, you know,
where you got to pay attention to the points and understand the mic or the safety,
who's coming down and learn your hot reads early.
Because stuff like that, it gets you fired now.
Because if you think about the Ocho, I think,
Francisco almost called a fumble.
It looked like they call a slot blitz or a cat blitz where they bought the corner,
they fired the corner.
And he hit the back so quick the back fumble the ball.
And the quarterback ended up recovering.
I'm like, damn, y'all doing this the first preseason game?
Man, say that one for a rainy day.
Yeah.
Hey, they want you to make them quick decisions here.
They don't want to get a quarterback no time back there.
You got to be able to think on the fly.
Exactly.
Ocho, your Bengals, some things just never changed.
They beat the lion 1614.
Yeah.
But he was sacked and pressure.
Ocho, y'all will ever protect this man?
I just, we just, we just.

Oh, that's fantastic.
And you make it on, you make your own.
That's great.
I call him tarot reads.
It's a good name.
They're all named after cast members of American Pie.
Yeah.
I call, I don't, I never looked up if she was in this, but I call him Leachie Sobieski.
Yeah, I don't think she was an American Pie, but I still like that.
Haven't looked it up.
She was prominent around the same time.
Yeah.
Then Mary Steenbergin.
Why are you guys talking to me?
I'm worried.
I'm worried.
Why are you talking so down to me that you think I don't understand your little play, play game?
I just really.
I get it.
I'm trying to set you up for success here.

I'm part of the show.
It being the preseason, and we're not going to put too much in it.
You know, this is the preseason.
That's what this is for.
Oh, Joe.
The correct certain mistakes, you know, fix certain things.
It's, um, because football.
You know what's going to happen in football?
In regards to, even when the Cowboy play, Joe, even when the Bronco, wait, let me finish.
Let me finish.
Even when the Broncos was in the Ravens play, Lamar Jack is going to get sacked.
Hey, Joe, that Prescott, he's going to get sack.
Joe Burrow, throughout this season, he's going to get sack.
He's not going to be the most sack, but he's going to be close.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I would have thought, Ocho, that y'all would, I thought you guys had to address this
because y'all know the number one thing is to protect nine.
If nine is healthy, you got a chance.
Without nine, you got no chance.
I don't give a damn how great your defense has improved.
You're not going anywhere unless nine is upright.
And I'm like, damn, y'all let people just run by y'all.
I mean, at some point, Tommy, say, you know what, Ocho?
I ain't been let this man beat my ass today.
Not today.
Next week, he might get me, but you not.
Y'all, I mean, he was pressured and sacked.
I'm like that.
And they run around.
Ocho, those are your starters too now.
Yes, are.
Them not your backups.
Everybody played.
And you know what I don't like, Unc, because of the region I'm in,
I tried everything to watch this game.
I just wanted to see the first two series of the game
because I knew Joe and the whole staff was playing
and I was kind of upset because of the reason I mean
I was able to get every single NFL game.
I did all the extra ads and buying the subscriptions with NFL
and I still couldn't get it.
At YouTube TV, hey, Joe, I did everything.
I just wanted to see those two series
so I would be able to have a better assessment of the game
and how they look.
And obviously, I just saw highlights.
So that doesn't mean.
any just to be able to talk about.
Look, I didn't think Joe Burrow played bad, Ocho.
I seen him make some hell of a throw,
even one he threw the chase right there.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, he looked good, bro.
He looked good, but they can't protect him.
Hell, if you can't protect him, Ocho,
how y'all expect to succeed, you know,
throughout the regular season,
they even make it to the playoffs.
Yeah, you're right by that, Joe.
And the one thing, our Achilles here has always been,
obviously Joe getting hit,
Joe having to scramble too much, Joe getting hurt,
So if we can protect him and keep him up right now.
I ain't saying give him eight, eight, nine seconds now.
Just give him two and a half, give him three and keep people out of his face.
We're going to be all right.
I don't like to see.
I don't like to see Joe scrambling.
I don't like to see him scrambling.
Hey, hey, listen, his pocket awareness is nice now.
Oh, it is.
It is.
Very nice.
Yeah.
Oh, it is.
The thing I will say, Ocho, I'm not trying to have him be like Dan Marino where he
have single digit sacks in a season.
I mean, Dan sometimes had seven sacks in the regular.
I'm not saying that.
I mean, but damn, can you, can you keep him under, can you keep him under 30?
Can you keep him under 40?
Yeah.
Man, you start, you start getting your quarterback hit that many times.
First of all, sack.
He goes down that many times.
How many times did he get hit that he was able to get the ball away?
Right, right.
So you're asking, you're asking an awful lot.
And, um, but I'm just like, well, damn, they started this.
The first two driving, he was sack.
I think what he was, he, uh, I think he was, uh, I think he was sacked at least twice,
and he was pressured relentlessly.
Because like, like, Joe said,
the one that he completed the chase,
he was pressured on.
Yeah.
Yeah. I'm like, well, damn.
Yeah.
And oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, you got to get,
but you can't let that man run around you like that.
Hey, I know one thing.
I'm glad it. I'm glad it is a pre.
We gonna get it.
Well, I'm glad you didn't have to watch it.
Can you have been bad.
You'd have been thorns.
You'd have been throwing it's at your TV.
You're like, damn, we start the game like this.
Yep.
Hey.
But they'll, but they would,
But it was bringing pressure.
Like I said, I've seen more pressure.
And maybe it's because I'm looking for it now.
Right.
But I've seen more pressure recently as far as in the preseason that I've ever seen.
We didn't ever, the only time the guys brought pressure was like that third preseason game.
That's when, okay, we're working on some stuff that we're going to get ready for going to season because you know what?
Our starters are not playing the last game.
And we're going to come out a few wrinkles on the offense.
But, man, these guys, man, these guys.
These guys bringing pressure, they bring it,
they're bringing gut blitzes, they're bringing mics.
I'm like, damn.
Hey, how many, how many games they're playing in the preseason now?
Is it a big difference from where I was playing?
Three, three, right?
Oh, they're going to be three.
Yeah.
Oh, hell, they got to get to it.
They got to open that thing up a little bit.
Yeah.
Hey, well, it opens up the second game.
These jokes hit the ground running.
Now, it's like, hey, bro, they're like,
these are some troopers.
They hit the ground running.
Oh, yeah.
I was like, damn.
But you're right, Joe.
I think the thing is Ocho is that because they only have those three preseason games
since you added that one regular season game, you took one away from the preseason.
But if you know if they go to 18, Ocho, Joe, now they're going to take another
preseason game.
Now they're going to go down to two.
He's going to be two.
And I'm curious how that will work too.
Uncle, you got to think about all the players.
You got 90-some guys.
You got to get down to 53.
And if you only have two pre-send games, how you're going to honestly evaluate, though trying
to make your team and trying to make an impact.
I don't know how that would work.
Hold on.
Y'all start off with 90-some players before the season?
Yeah.
Yeah.
For sure.
You got, not in the season, but in the preseason.
Before the season.
Because you got to have those, you got to have those bodies.
We call those camp bodies, Joe.
Yes.
I mean, so basically 90, 95, 97% of those guys know they ain't making the damn team.
Yeah, because you got to get down to 53.
Hey, Joe.
So if you start with, you start with 90, that's 47 players got to get cut.
Yeah.
Hey, Joe, I don't think people understand.
they talk all that trash about the NFL players that have made the team that are part of the 53
but I don't think they understand how good those 53 are.
Yeah.
They have good those 53 are because there's another 40 that gets cut that didn't make the goddamn squad for a reason.
There has to be something special about you.
Now, you know you have elite players, right?
Every team has maybe three or four, maybe five.
You got five elite players on your team.
Boy, you hail.
And there are a few teams like that.
Seattle might be one.
The Rams might be another.
the Bengals are another.
There are very few teams that have, I mean,
multiple lead players on the team at a time,
but outside of that,
what Ocho said,
they got Hall of Famers.
You look at Kansas City,
they got three for sure Hall of Famers.
Chris Jones, Travis Kelsey,
and my homeboy.
Easily.
You know, okay,
Miles Garrett is going to the Hall of Fame.
Devonte Adams is going to the Hall of Fame.
Matthew Stafford is going to the Hall of Fame.
So when you got guys that got,
they got Hall of Famers,
And there's some teams they got, okay, we got Pro Bowl players.
And there's some teams got all pro players.
And then you got some guys, and you know what?
They're working on a Hall of Fame resume.
Yeah, yeah.
There ain't a whole lot of, I mean, ain't a whole lot of teams got those now.
Yeah.
And a goal, a lot of teams, you start looking around like, uh, no.
No, no.
Yeah.
But it's, it's, it's so different now.
there's so much money involved.
And teams don't want to risk in the preseason
because, like you said, the guy's going 100 miles
and not because I'm trying to make the team.
Certain guys are like, man, I got this in the bag.
Let me just go ahead and work out some stuff.
The other guy's like, well, I ain't got it in the bag.
Right.
I ain't got it in the bag.
Yeah, so I got to go out there and do everything I can
to show these coaches that I deserve a spot on this, what,
the 52, 53 man roster?
53 man roster.
I mean on the practice squad.
I think you got about 15 to 17 practice squad.
Yeah, so you got 15 to 17 people, Joe, that they might get cut.
But even if they get cut, they'll be able to come back for the practice squad.
And those are the player that the team and the organization feels, you know what, they can develop.
Hey, what kind of money they're making on the practice squad, though?
Oh, they make good money.
What about I said if I heard it, what about I said if I heard it all the week on Joe?
That's, no.
7500 a hundred hours a week.
Now, it got to be way more.
All they do it is, Joe, all they do it is practicing and eating free.
But, oh, what if I go out to have a career ending injury?
Like, I'm $7,500 a month.
I mean, a week.
A week, man, I can't do nothing with that.
A, Unk, I think you might have, you have to look.
Oh, Joe, what you talk about?
Hell, I was making that and I was playing.
The hell you're talking about you can't do the.
I was playing every special team and getting my five or six snaps on the offense.
Hey, you had to get it how you live, bro.
You know what I mean?
Hey, hey, I wonder, I know, ask.
They make 13, 5, 13, 5 a week.
That's, that's good, Joe.
So 18 weeks, 13, 5 a week.
I mean, I ain't no matter.
Almost a quarter of me.
That's a quarter of a meal.
Hey, that's good money, Joe.
I was the first, I was the first team all pro.
And a pro bow player, two, my second pro bowl.
It made 300.
And you're talking about these guys in the practice squad.
Ain't seeing the field.
Oh, it's a new day.
It's a new, you're talking about back.
You're talking about back in the 90s.
Hell, we're in 2026.
Man, I was like, what day?
Yeah.
Man, I show which I could make $13,000 a week.
Man.
Well, you could have told me nothing.
You know what, God said it up just how it was supposed to be.
He knows damn well.
I would have been too big a damn fool to make that kind of money a week.
He already knows me.
He said, nah, I can't give you.
He'd say, man, I can't, 13, hold on.
Oh, sure, that's $52,000.
That's over $52,000 a month.
A month, yeah, that's a good money, that way.
September, October, November, December, and half of January?
Mm-hmm.
Man, they can't give me no damn near $300,000.
As a rookie at 22.
Yeah, that's a good money, boy.
You're going to blow through that.
Shit.
I had to blew through some of the girls back.
Wow, that's what I blew through.
What?
I had to keep that.
I had to keep mind about it.
I couldn't afford nothing back then.
Hell no, man, I ain't.
I'm about to be a week.
I'm about to have you about 10 of the bag.
What?
Damn.
Oh, I'd have been broke.
Oh, for sure.
I'd have been broke.
Where are they now?
You'd be in front pain.
Yep.
I would have.
I had no money, though.
And, you know what?
Probably not that bad because there's no social media.
So you don't really know what's on the other side of the world
unless you go over there.
And I ain't really travel like that.
Right, right.
But now with the click of a button,
boy, they got, that's what's in Cape Verde?
Yeah.
That's what's in Cali?
That's what's in Miami.
Yay.
Why are you sleeping?
Quiet as kept?
There's some stuff in the Midwest, I need to see.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, no, man.
God knows.
he knew exactly what he was doing with Chavisarpe.
I'd have been on some real demon time.
The Cardinals beat the Raiders,
2714, Kurt Cousin threw a touchdown.
Raiders' office looked pretty good,
but it was, Arizona.
Cousins one series, five or six, 50 yards,
and a touchdown, Mendoza looked pretty good.
Jeremiah Love, man, that joke would look explosive.
Hey, hey, hold on, hold on, hold on.
And he did go, what?
That boy got some Agent Peterson in him
the way he was running,
running that ball.
He, I'm telling me, I said,
Hey, he looked good.
He really explosive, on.
Hey, I, I want him to stay on the ground, though.
He's going to get enough of that.
Yeah, he'll get enough of that.
That airborne, they're going to break it, but that happened.
Oh, yeah.
He young, he's young, fellas.
Y'all know how them young boys, hey, look,
the man want to show he belonged.
He wants to show he worked their damn contract he got.
Hey, Joe, we know, we know he belonged,
but just stay on the ground.
All that hurtling, no, it's a time,
it's a time for that.
It's a time.
They might not stop it, Mocho.
but they're breaking him with that damn habit.
Yeah, they get him about.
But, and I was, we were talking, Joe,
we were talking about him and you were on here,
I think Joe, and I said, oh, Joe,
if you look at him because we're debating
what type of time he's going to run.
I say, he looked like he's sub-4-4.
I said, because he looks explosive in pads.
I can just imagine.
Now, you've got to think about it.
He's going somewhere to train for just eight weeks.
And all they're going to do is work on that.
They're going to work on that.
Yeah.
For two times a day, all you do it is preparing for the, I mean,
It's the ultimate job interview.
All you're doing to run in 40s, doing 225,
short cone, short shuttle.
That's all you doing, Ocho.
Vertical jump, standing, prox.
And they're giving you the one.
I don't know if they still take it,
but they normally used to give the guy
the Wunderling take the test.
Take this.
Get proficient at it.
Man, but that kid looked, he looked really good.
I agree with you, Ocho.
You keep your ass on the ground, son.
That's it.
You ain't an astronaut.
That's the only time you should be
in the air if you're an astronaut.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And when you look at it, when you look at Mendoza and and Kirk Cousins,
they both, they both look decent.
I know this first game, but they both look good.
Y'all see my boy, y'all see their ex-raiserback Mike Washington,
Jr.
You see that boy cut up out there?
It's a bad.
Joe, we're gonna go through this every time you see a razor back on the field,
man talking about the man cutting up now.
You ain't see my man out there do it one, two.
I see, I seen him put on a mini demonstration.
Yeah, many one.
He had a faster time than Jeremy
Love in the damn combine.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he could go now.
And he ran like four three.
He ran like four three flat.
Yeah.
What that down day?
Ocho, I mean, look at that Mendoza.
I knew he was big, but I was like, I didn't know he was that tall.
I ain't know he was like that.
Yeah, yeah, he's a big boy.
Dude, he's like six five.
Yeah, you're a big boy.
I'm like, God.
Honestly, I'm watching him at,
at Indiana.
He looked taller than everybody else.
He looked big.
When I watched him playing high school down in Miami at Columbus,
he didn't look that big.
Obviously, you know, you do grow a little bit.
That's what it is, though, Joe.
He put on weight.
If you look at him when he was in Indiana and you look at him now,
it looked like he put on like 10, 12, 15 pounds.
You know, you know they'll do that to you.
Oh, yeah.
You got to take that pun to you.
Hey.
But no, but the cards, I thought, you know,
Jacoby Brissette came in and throw a touchdown.
it was good to see Marvin Harrison Jr.
catch the ball because he ain't been doing
up with dropping balls left and right in practice.
Hey, you know, you know what I thought?
I don't, listen, AI is really, is getting to me right now
because everything looks so realistic.
And I don't know if they're taking clips
from last year training camp and they put it all together
and making collards of Marvin Harrison dropping the ball.
Yeah.
And I don't know what's real and what's not,
but I'm glad to see him make a, you know,
make a catch.
Yeah, that was one eight.
back in the end zone?
Who do that?
That was Kurt Cousin's net
threaded the needle on that?
I mean, not Kurt Couset.
That was Brissette.
They threw the ball of Marvin-Azer?
Yeah.
Yeah, what pressure in his face?
Yes, yeah.
That was a very, very good anticipatory throw.
That was nice.
So I'm glad to see Marvin.
He need that for his confidence to it.
He does.
If those those cliques are watching are really him.
Yeah, I doubt it.
But, but, also, we talked about this,
and we thought this was something that he could,
could correct from his rookie year because I thought it was just lack of concentration.
I thought he's like always trying to make because I think the thing is the biggest thing
for a wide receiver coming in from the college,
especially when you're the guy,
but let the car for war winner,
you know you're going to get 10 to a target.
In NFL,
it ain't like that.
And so now what you start to do is you start to press.
Everything is trying to,
you try to make a house call.
And all of a sudden,
instead of,
you know,
instead of focusing on the ball,
you try to do this,
try to see what the defender goes so you can get up,
you can get up out of town.
and then the boot next thing you know the ball's on the ground.
I ain't never seen a guy score without the football in hand.
So you can do all that you want to,
but at the end of the day, you got to catch the ball.
And I think with a little bit more focus, look,
and there's a lot of pressure, Ocho.
There's more pressure on him than any other receiver.
You know why, Ocho?
Because what didn't he do?
He didn't do anything at the combine.
What didn't he do?
He didn't have a pro day.
He said, y'all don't saw my film.
That's good enough.
So he put even more of pressure on.
himself because he didn't do any of that.
And so now people
like, well, okay, that's fine.
Yeah. But you need to go out here and do like,
hey, you need to go out here and do like them other guys that came
out high draft picks. The Jamar Chase's
and all there. And Chase was like the fifth pick
in the draft. But you're talking about this guy was the what,
the fourth, the third pick in the draft?
Yeah. The same thing with Cardinal take.
When you go that high as a receiver,
boy, they say you franchise alter it.
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, listen, Uncle Joe,
the way he played Ohio State,
that's exactly what I expect him to be in Arizona.
I mean, one year he came back, he was slim,
obviously the same size was the Ohio State,
and he came back to follow him a year.
Oh, man, he got a, man, he got, hey, Joe,
he's being now.
I'm like, but God damn.
Yeah.
What he was doing?
To me, honestly, I think he put on too much muscle.
It took away something is like,
it makes you, it makes you more robotic and not fluid.
He doesn't look fluid.
He doesn't look.
He got that wiggle.
Yeah, at Ohio State, he was fluid with wiggle.
And he put on the muscle, whatever, it just make you too, eh, yeah, I don't know how to explain it.
Uncle, you know what I'm trying to say.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, that's what happened.
He felt he felt that he needed to be bigger.
He felt that he needed to be, you know, to be able to play through the physicality because those guys are physical.
And once they find out they can put hands on you and you're, you're bothered by that,
guys going to press hell out you.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, listen.
Go ahead.
I'm going to say, Joe, and on, you can be wiry.
You don't have to be slow.
You just have to be able to learn how to give people a half of your body.
Yeah.
A half of your body and knowing how to use technique, wiping, dipping, dipping the shoulder,
just getting up out of there, you know, but putting on muscle and just, it's slow.
To me, I think it just slows you down.
That's just me.
Unless you are that style of receiver.
Right.
When he played in Ohio State, he wasn't even able to the style of receiver.
He's not that.
style of receiver. That's, that's not what he does.
No. I mean, even though he's, he's big, uh, he ain't, he ain't, he ain't T.O.
He ain't Julio. He ain't that type of receiver. No, no, no, no.
Those guys are looking to play through contact. And they well, they welcome contact too.
Yeah. Come on. Put your hands on me if you want to. But he got the body for that though.
Yeah, but that's not, no, no, no, no, no. You got to be careful. And that's the problem that he
has. Because he has the body, if he has the body, if he has, he has the body, if he
He lived too much, you see what happened.
He'll mess around to eat yourself into a three-point stance.
He'll be a tight end.
He'll be an elf.
Yeah.
Nah, bro.
You don't want them type of problem.
Yeah.
Leave my, hey, block them corners and safety.
Leads my guard and Nick Bosa, need them alone.
Lead them alone.
You don't want them problems.
Yeah, I hope he has a good year, though.
I hope he has a good year.
You get, you know, all that stuff behind him.
That's what practice for.

Oh, you want to pick, you want a fantasy team?
You want to pick a fantasy team?
Yeah, let's compete.
Yes, we all have a fantasy, Joe.

How did any of this get made?
Why do we think that was a good idea?
We're ready to talk about it.
And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life.
Guestores, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysall, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin,

Well, I thought he was going to write.
I thought you were all going to write a song.
I remember you thinking that.

The definition of what is a movie has kind of changed anywhere, too, right?
What do you think it is now?
It's images and words being spoken, captured by some sort of technology.
Danny McBride.
He loves over.
Oh, that's fantastic.
And you make it on, you make your own.
That's great.
I call him Terro Reed.
It's a good name.
They're all named after cast members of American Pie.
Yeah.
Oh, gotcha.
I call, I don't, I never looked up if she was in this, but I call him Leachie Sobiesky.
Yeah, I don't think she was an American Pie, but I still like that.
I haven't looked it up.
She was prominent around the same time.
Then Mary Steenbergin.
Why are you guys talking to me?
I'm worried.
I'm worried.
Why are you talking so down to me that you think I don't understand your little play game?
I just really, I get it.
I'm trying to set you up for success here.

Oh, no.
I'm Julie Pinero, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes
without asking anyone else first.
I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility.
Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us.
Not a lot of people smile around here.
I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random.

Definitely.
The Steelers beat the Packers 28 to 9, Steelers rookie Drew Aller in the preseason debut.
Boy, he were dealing, boy.
He looked good.
54 yards, three total touchdowns, no interception.
He looked really good.
It looked like a good pick.
I mean, you know, they got Howell,
I think Howell is the guy that they got from Ohio State.
And obviously, they got Aaron Rogers,
who's going to be the start of this year.
But I thought Howell played really, really well.
And I like to pick up a Tonion.
Aaron Rogers is very familiar with Robert Tonian.
He was with him in Green Bay.
He hurt his knee one year.
He spent last year, if I'm not mistaken, in Kansas City.
obviously Mike McCarthy is very familiar with him.
He drafted him when he was in Green Bay if I'm not.
Nah, I don't know if Mike drafted him.
I think what you call him might have drafted.
He might have, though.
But I know Aaron Rogers is very, very familiar with Robert Tanya.
And he was a very good receiver for Rogers.
And tonight, I mean, it just seemed like to him.
They were just throwing the ball, just one drive.
They threw the ball to him like three or four times.
And he took it right down the field.
But what did you like about what you saw from Drew Allen, Ocho?
Hey, Uncle, he looked good.
commanded the offense, moved the ball extremely well, very confident, you know, in the pocket,
delivered, delivered all the thos. He was really, really good. But again, caution to the win,
Uncle Joe, it is the preseason. But listen, but what else do we have to evaluate?
Right, right. We have to evaluate during the preseason. So based on what we saw, the small
simbicides we saw from Drew Aller, he looked extremely good. Mason Rudolph, eh,
eh, you know, I mean, listen, he's been in the league eight, nine years, eight years,
I'm not sure which one it is, but he is what he is.
Based on what I saw tonight,
at some point probably after the second preseason game,
I'm sure Drew Allen,
if he has another performance like he did tonight,
he would probably be the start.
He would probably be the backup.
You think so, Joe?
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Absolutely.
Because, I mean, no disrespect to Mason Rudolph,
but he is who he is at this point.
We've seen him multiple times when he had an opportunity to start.
But he's really not the answer,
especially one to
to supersede
Nope, that's the wrong word
Be the successor
You don't think
Aeron gonna make it through the whole season?
Oh no, I'm saying in general
Just for the future
You gotta think
Yeah, we're talking about for the future, yeah
They need a quarterback
They can say, you know what
This is our guy for the next decade
And it's not going to be Mason Rudolph
And Aaron Rogers is not going to play that much longer
Being that he said this is last season
So somebody has to step up
and be that quarterback of the future.
Yeah, they got to find a quarterback.
Yeah.
They need one bad.
I mean, obviously, they waited too long to deal with Ben Rothenberger.
They didn't want to tick him off.
But you can't be afraid of that because it leaves your franchise and, well, in hell.
Not even purgatory because in purgatory, because in purgatory, you kind of hover,
you in between heaven and hell, but they leave you in hell.
Because without that guy, and you see what Green Bay did.
Yeah.
They pissed Aaron Rogers off, but they got a bridge.
for the future though.
Yeah.
Hey,
not just any bridge.
That was a damn bridge.
You see what the Kansas City did.
They had Alexander Smith.
Yeah.
They drafted him a homeboy.
They got a golden highway
into the future.
You've got to think like that.
You can't be afraid to tick these
quarterbacks off because, oh,
I didn't want to upset him.
But when he retired, then what?
Yeah.
You're right.
Hey, you're right.
You got to take them chances, bro.
because I feel like the Steelers had an opportunity
to draft good quarterbacks.
Yeah, for sure.
They just passed up on them for whatever reason.
Mm-hmm.
You got, you got to be willing to take chances.
Hey, look at the Rams.
The Rams took a quarterback in the first round with the MVP.
The guy just won the MVP and they took a quarterback
in the first damn round.
Yeah.
They're like, you're not fin to stick,
you're not fin to stick us because the likelihood of us being in this position
because the thing was is that,
They're looking at it like this.
If we are who we believe we are going to be,
we're not going to be up high enough to get a quarterback
to get a quarterback that's any good.
You know what?
Now it's just as good a time as any.
Because look, we got Matthew Stafford under contract
for another two years.
Now, we'll cross that.
Oh, Joe.
Yeah.
I thought that was my, I thought that was mine.
But I have refused to get caught holding a bag
and our quarterback all of a sudden gets Nick
or he's out and he's done.
and then we ain't got no quarterback.
Because the one thing we know about the Rams, bro, L.A. is all about winning.
If you don't win in L.A., why you think the Dodgers?
Everybody that's a free agent, that's costing $300 million the Dodgers go get.
Oh, yeah.
Why do you think the Lakers have always been showtime?
They stand it.
The front row seats, they want to see winners.
There you are.
It's too much going on in L.A.
for you not to win
and think they're going to show their ass up.
They want to entertain.
I can be at Venice Beach.
I could be at Santa Monica.
I could be on somebody rooftop.
I could be,
I can do a running canyon.
I could be,
excuse me,
I could be doing a million other thing
than sitting my ass in a stadium
and watch y'all lose.
Oh, hell no.
Oh, yeah.
But you know the funny thing about it?
What's that?
Do they have an answer to the quarterback, though?
Do they have the answer
when,
when he's,
decide Matthew Stevers decide, you know, to step away after the two years.
Is it Stetson, is it, wait, what is it?
Stetson Bennett.
Yes.
And they took the, and they took Simpson from Alabama.
Ty Simpson.
Hey, are they the answer?
I'm a choice.
The one thing I will do, the one thing that they can do is that out of that system is they
can coach up that damn quarterback.
You remember some of the quarterbacks that Kyle Shadden had before he, before he,
before he got Brock Purdy.
I'm like, man, how.
How are you getting these dudes to throw for 300 yards?
The funny thing about it,
you got to think about the offenses.
Those offenses that they run are quarterback friendly.
Yes.
They're quarterback friendly.
So, I mean, we're going to see.
We're going to see.
But there's a reason why Matthew Stafford and everyone that's played in that system
has had success.
Yeah.
We've got to make sure we call it Matthew Stafford.
Kelly does not like when you call it Matt.
So Kelly, we're going to make sure we call it Matthew.
That is his name.
to be dressed as Matthew Stafford.
So Matthew, he played, I mean, he's been playing his tail up.
He's always had this kind of ability.
He's just been in Detroit.
Yeah.
It's amazing.
A guy can put up the same numbers.
And be in a bad situation.
And people think he trash.
And he goes to, he's the same Matthew Stafford.
Always has been.
The man threw one year for 5,000.
Hold on a little.
How does a man throw for 5,000 yards, 41 touchdown,
and does not make the Pro Bowl.
Hey.
Well, Detroit.
Oh, they must have.
It ain't like he wasn't throwing.
I mean, he did have Megatron.
Yeah.
I don't know if he would think Megatron was any good,
but I like to think he's pretty damn good.
Hold on.
Very damn good.
Very damn good.
Hey, hey, well, 5,000 yards.
Did they make the playoffs?
They couldn't have made the playoffs.
They did it?
11 and 5, yeah.
Damn.
That was the last game.
That was the last game.
As a matter of fact,
Matthew Stafford, that was the last game of the year.
I'm not mistaken, I think Aaron Rogers ended up winning the MVP that year.
That was the year of Matthew Stafford threw for 5,000.
He had 41 touchdowns, eight interceptions.
He threw for the last game against Green Bay.
He threw for 520, 520, 523, 522, something like that.
And that was the kid, you remember, what's the one that ended up going in free agency?
He went to Seattle and then got beat out by Russell Wilson.
What's his name?
He's from LSU.
What's the guy's name?
Oh, man.
Matt, what's his guy's name?
His name was Matt something?
Quarterback?
Yeah.
He back, because Aaron Rogers sought out the last game.
And they went back and forth.
He threw for like 380 something and six touchdowns,
and Matthew Stafford threw for like five something.
Matt Flynn.
Oh, okay.
Matt Flynn. Chad, go look that up, make sure I'm right. Last game of the season.
Matt Flynn and Matthew Stafford had a duel out. Stafford threw for over 500 yards.
Flynn, if I'm not mistaken, had like five or six touchdowns.
And then Flynn, three years, got three years, 30 million, and then go to Seattle and then gets beats out by Eric, get beats out by Russell Wilson.
Yeah.
But go back and look at Stafford that year. That was, uh, 20, that was 2011.
Was 2011?
I think it was 2011.
Because Russell came in in 2012.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it was 2012.
Yeah.
That's what it was.
Yeah.
I was like, well, damn.
But Matthew Stafford, he could spend the,
he can just flat-out spin the ball, man.
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
They were talking about the kid
because you know, Ocho, he came from Texas.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And people was talking about, I was like,
how y'all talk about this man
going to be the number one pick in the draft?
And the man ain't took a damn college,
Now a tremendous arm talent.
Oh my goodness.
That man,
that man,
I spent the damn football.
Yeah,
he's going to throw that thing around the yard now,
especially when he got some talents around him like he got now, L.A.?
Man,
It's almost unfair.
Hey,
almost he doesn't master that no look now.
I mean,
he does,
he do that thing routine.
He really,
he really good at that.
That's when you know the game to change.
How you defend that?
Huh?
I said,
that's when you know the game doesn't change.
It doesn't got advanced because my homes,
he,
hell,
Bison him throw something behind his back one time.
Oh, yeah, yeah, I like that.
When he did that, did that shovel pass,
he went to put it behind his back to Kelsey.
But that's the, but it's one thing to throw a no look.
It's something entirely different in the Super Bowl in the fourth quarter
and you're down for points.
That's a whole different ball game, Joe.
Yeah.
That man threw a no look on third down in the Super Bowl.
down.
That's crazy.
Boy, that joke, hey, he got some bowling balls.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You got to have some Cajunas, boy.
To do that one?
Absolutely.
I already know, man.
Man, that'd be like, so, hey, Joe, I guess that's somebody coming down shooting a step
Curry, y'all down six, y'all down five points, and he comes down to shoot, and
it ain't, and he comes down to shoot a step curry.
From one step cross half, you're going to look at that man like, like, huh.
Yeah.
Like what Stepp did again, remember that Saturday night game against Oklahoma, Oklahoma City?
With Steff Curry, they were tied and step took one, two step across half court and let it go.
And let it fly.
Hey, anybody even contested because you ain't even thinking he finished.
He didn't feel of pulling from there.
Contest what, Joe?
Hey, hey, but it's kind of similar.
It's similar to the same thing, Wimby done in one of those games in the final.
Yes.
Against Oklahoma City.
Disabled, yes.
Yeah, there is against OK.
Yeah, you know, you see a guy coming down.
You're like, man, he ain't gonna shoot that
from no one or two steps cross half.
No, guard it for what?
Cause now I go out there and guard him, Joe,
he go by me and get an easier shot.
And now they're gonna be like,
why in the hell you let that man go by?
Why are you picking them up way out there?
That's exactly what they gonna say.
Yeah.
So you can't win.
Cause you gotta be careful.
Cause remember, that's like KD got that shot off against Braun.
Braun was like, you know what, I got a,
he ain't fit.
finish shooting this ball.
Hey, yeah, he is.
Yeah, same thing.
Hey, same thing when Dame Lilla shot that thing
over Paul George.
Ain't no way I figured Dave shoot down.
How he sidestepped up from 37?
Dane, Dame were by the logo damn there, right?
Yeah, we're 37 feet out.
Ocho, first off, Ocho, this was the closed series.
This ain't where, this wasn't, you know what I mean?
This is like, bye, bye, y'all.
We would holly it out later.
Yeah, he hit that side step to the right.
Come on, if I was guarding him way out there,
okay, Ocho, and I'm looking at the clock,
it's three seconds, I'm like, hold on,
dude, one step across half, what are he gonna do?
Like, Paul George contested the shot.
He did.
Because you know, when Dave got the ball,
Paul turned around, he messed up right,
he looked at the clock, because the clock was down,
and he looked at the, oh, yeah, I'm good.
Hey, you ain't fit to get by me.
And PG's like, I'm good, cause.
I ain't worry about nothing.
Let me lock this thing down right here.
Hey, bro, that's different.
Day, Dahlia say, you really not that good.
Hey, hold on, Joe.
Speaking of Dane, boy, you seen the clip circulate on Twitter?
With Dane, they ain't working out?
And playing runs.
He looks good.
He's in some shape.
He's like, he didn't trim down.
He didn't tighten that body up a little bit.
Damn, them injury.
Damn, he was a workout freak, because you know,
he liked to get his boxing on.
Damn, a workout freak now.
Yeah.
Yeah, he gets to it.
Hey, hey, hey.
What are you trying to pull him out?
boy in that Western comfort.
Man, his demeanor, man.
It's just like, I always liked his game.
I mean, I, you know, obviously, you know,
being out there on the West Coast and,
and being able to watch their game,
I'm like, man, people don't realize how good this Joker is, man.
Boy, nice, boy.
Hey, man.
Nothing faze that kid, bro.
No, man.
He got the right demeanor.
He's from Oakland.
So obviously, you know ain't no, no nothing bothered.
But I mean, just to see him and just like,
How you shoot the ball?
How you shoot the ball?
Like him and stuff, they're not overly big dudes.
I can see if they're like six folks.
Bro, they're like average size dude.
Dane, Dave, what you say, Dave?
Like six, six one, maybe.
Hey, look, okay, Ocho, the man gave us 63.
The man gave us 63 points, man.
Oh, you can let it go, man.
Ocho, I ain't lying.
I'm telling you, it was so remarkable to watch
because, you know, we had Rudy Gaubert at the time
who great defensively.
Yeah.
We had no coverage for him.
He was shooting deep threes.
He was running by Rudy.
He dunked.
I'm like, all right.
He don't know.
And that one,
he don't know what he is about Utah,
bro.
He loved,
because he went to Weber State.
Yeah,
which is in Utah.
So I don't know if he just loved playing that,
but he used to get over.
He said everybody gets a chance to see him.
Yeah.
He used to give him.
Hold on.
Didn't he drop, he dropped 70?
Who he dropped 70 on?
He dropped 70.
Was it Milwaukee?
Or something, he dropped 70, like 72 on somebody.
70, 72?
I'm like, bro, what?
He's like, man.
Man, they started tripling the man.
The man getting the ball, they leave everybody else there.
Got three men.
They're like, nah, you're not been to get no 80.
Nah, and can still score the ball with two, three guys.
Bro, that's different, bro.
Come on, man.
Come on, man.
When you can shoot the ball like that, they ain't got no answer for it.
Yeah, no.
Hey, okay, Ocho, you trapped me.
Hell, I didn't done my job.
I'm giving it up.
Hey, it's somebody open here.
Y'all ain't going to make a damn play.
He's shooting over the trap.
He's doing. He do. He do.
