Starting point is 00:04:22 into fashion. I'm very cheap, so I think it would be really cool for me to have an inexpensive line of clothing affordable clothing that's on brand for me and what I represent so I have t-shirts
Starting point is 00:04:38 and hoodies and sweats everything for $20 yes I like that that's a good idea. Canelo defeats Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision, wasn't it? I think it was unanimous decision. Great fight in the fourth round. He got in the pocket with Canelo. Canelo hit him with an uppercut, dropped him. But also, it was a big night.
Starting point is 00:05:07 The Timberwolves take down the Nuggets on the road. Cat Williams had his YouTube special, Woke Folk. I was in attendance at that tonight. And we had the big fight, Canelo and Jaime Munguia. So we're going to start with the last one, which was Canelo Alvelo and Jaime Munguia. So we're going to start with the last one, which was Canelo Alvarez defeated Jaime Munguia by decision. Great fight. Ocho, what did you like about what you saw from Canelo tonight?
Starting point is 00:05:38 Well, before I get to Canelo, obviously from Munguia, Munguia had a good game plan. I think at some point, obviously you think about Mexican fighters always want to add pressure, always want to come forward, volume punching, and that's what Munguia started out doing. First round, he won first round, fair and square. A lot of punches were thrown. Obviously, fighting in the pocket when you're fresh in the early rounds is okay to do. Canelo normally starts slow. He doesn't throw as many punches. He somewhat dissects you. He gathers information, catches the rhythm,
Starting point is 00:06:12 figures out your routine, and starts pouring it on in the later rounds. Munguia got dropped, I think, in the third round. Canelo caught him with a hook, quick uppercut. Yeah, it was the fourth. It was the fourth. Canelo caught him with a hook, quick uppercut. Yeah, it was the fourth. It was the fourth. Caught him with a quick hook and uppercut. And one of the things I would say
Starting point is 00:06:31 about when you're fighting someone like Canelo, him fighting in the pocket, as powerful as he is, where most of his punches, I don't know what percentage it is, they're power punches. You got to be careful. You got to be careful with that. But other than that, Munguia fought a good fight,
Starting point is 00:06:47 but Canelo, obviously, dude, his ring IQ is phenomenal. And he just wasn't able to win it. I don't think Munguia had enough power also to keep Canelo off of him. So Canelo was down there walking through everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:03 It was a really good fight. I don't think he ever garnered Canelo's respect. Like you said, Canelo just started walking him down and then when he sat in the pocket with him he caught him with a one doing the uppercut and put him to the turf. That was the first time the canvas, excuse me. That's the first time
Starting point is 00:07:19 Munguia has ever been down. I think the thing is with Munguia and he's so much bigger. I mean, if you look at him, he's so much bigger than Canelo. And I thought he could hurt Canelo, but he didn't seem to really bother Canelo. Yeah, he tried some everything.
Starting point is 00:07:37 He tried to jab him. He tried to go to the body. But everything that he threw seemed, Canelo seemed unfazed by it. Yeah. You know, when Canelo seemed unfazed by it. You know, when Canelo fights he's so goddamn relaxed even when he does get hit. Munguia threw some combinations
Starting point is 00:07:53 and obviously the first two or three punches will get blocked in the fourth and get through and Canelo just unfazed by it all. Unfazed by it all. He always remained relaxed even if he does get caught and it's so difficult
Starting point is 00:08:05 they make it look so easy they make it look so easy but it's so difficult to do to get in the ring or have punches coming at you and someone trying to knock your head off and just stay calm and relax the entire time which is why obviously they are the elites at what they do yeah well i think that that's the biggest thing for any any fighter is to remain calm. A lot of guys like to gather information, see what you like to do because the one thing you can do unless you work up a good lab in the back, you're kind of cold. And the one thing you don't want
Starting point is 00:08:33 to have happen is get that flash knocked down and now all of a sudden it changes your fight plan because you're down already by two unless you can knock him down or get him out of there. So a lot of times guys, especially like a Canelo, like a Floyd, like the really, really great punchers, counter punchers.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Now Canelo has a little bit more power but he's still trying to gather information. Okay, this is what he's trying to do. Lead here. Okay, he's going to try to counter some of my things and so okay, let me get into the third, fourth, fifth rounds. Normal middle rounds, he starts picking it up. Start picking it up.
Starting point is 00:09:05 He's gathered all the data that he needs. And so now it's time for him to put his plan into place. You know who else starts like that? Who that? They start slow and gather information, Tank. Yeah. You ever notice that? Tank always the first one or two, three rounds,
Starting point is 00:09:23 the first one, two, first one or two, three rounds, the first one through first one, two or three rounds. He'll let you throw. He'll let you throw. And if I mean, if you if you in distance, he'll let some off. Yeah. But then as it is, as a round progress, round four or five, you start to turn it up. And then, you know, by the time you hit six or seven. Now, if you haven't punched yourself out, but you know you've already slowed
Starting point is 00:09:46 down a little bit, he started to ramp it up. Yes. That's one thing he has great, you know, Mexican fighters normally have great endurance. They can pressure. Hey, if they're going to, they're down their shield. They got no problem with that, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Most definitely. They got no problem putting punches together and going. If necessary, hey, if we got to slug it out for 12, well, it is what it is. Well, it is what it is, yep. But Canelo is a guy that he doesn't do it. He's not going to punch himself out. He's going to gather that information,
Starting point is 00:10:17 and then he'll slowly start to methodically walk you down. But I was surprised with how well he took the punches that did get through the guard from Munguia. I thought Munguia could really hurt it, but I didn't get the sense that he did any damage to Canelo. Canelo seemed really unfazed by that. And the scorecards, 117 to 110, 116 to 111, 115 to 112, all in favor of Canelo. But I thought Canelo... He looked good. He looked good. He looked like Canelo. But I thought Canelo... He looked good.
Starting point is 00:10:46 He looked good. He looked like Canelo. He looked like Canelo. Exactly. But this is the thing. I'm excited. Obviously, Canelo said in a press conference when someone asked him a question
Starting point is 00:10:56 about fighting Benavidez. So I'm hoping Benavidez is the next fight coming up in September for Canelo. If it's not Benavidez, I think Berlanga. Berlanga is another one who could be a potential fight for him as well. I think he might save Benavidez for maybe the latter end when he's maybe ready to call it quits and somewhat retire and finish it off like that and give the fight fans with obviously what we've all been waiting for is a fight between him and Benavidez.
Starting point is 00:11:30 And I'm hoping it happens soon maybe it happens in september if it's not benavidez i'm sure berlanga will probably be the next opponent but canelo man real deal real deal holy field man all the way across the board yeah you look at munguia threw 127 more punches than canelo but canelo landed 64 more punches m McGill was active. I mean, look, running in place, that don't mean you're going anywhere. So you're active. You ain't landing no punches. And that's kind of how to fight materialized. Yeah, he
Starting point is 00:11:56 was active. Yeah, he was throwing. But what's that I'm landing? Well, you know what's funny? You know what happened is I think after Canelo fought Floyd, he became a defensive mastermind. He became a defensive mastermind and worked on his defense to the point where he always kept a high guard. He's been very good at slipping.
Starting point is 00:12:13 His head movement has been phenomenal. And you pair all that with his ring IQ, you get stats like you just got tonight. As someone, you have a volume puncher adding pressure, and he's throwing he's volume punching but most of the punches are landing but canelo defense has improved so much throughout the years they have canelo landed 44 of his shots he landed 50 of his power punches well i think the thing is that canelo used to be a little bit more aggressive boy broke him out of that habit he he might not stop him, but he broke him out of the habit.
Starting point is 00:12:45 You know, my brother would say, hey, boy, you got that? Okay, I might not stop you, but I'll break you out of the habit. And that's what happens. Floyd, after he, you know, Floyd would pull a counter, everything he did. Like, man, I'm tired of getting hit upside my head every time I throw something, something's coming back in my kitchen. And so he became a defensive fighter, but he still has dynamite. And so, like I said, he starts slow, slow, slow, slow.
Starting point is 00:13:08 And then he starts to pick it up after he thinks that you've tired it out. Tired out. But like I said, I just didn't think Munguia possessed the arsenal. Or the power. The power, the skill. The skill level is, I mean, you is a, you talk about a master. Yeah. Fighting a student.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And that's not to say Munguia won't get better, but he's just not at the level that he needed to be in order to phase Canelo or even let alone beat him. Right. So Canelo was Canelo, fought a good fight. He won. I won't bore you guys with the the CompuBox number, but Canelo beat the brakes off you. Also, I went to the Cat Williams woke folk.
Starting point is 00:13:57 He had a Netflix live special. I thought I asked you to see if I can get a ticket to come to. I would have flew to L.A. and you ain't even called me or text me back or nothing I would have liked to go see the special as well but okay go ahead how was it it was good well you know uh we were close to the stage uh you know he shot his boy I told me he liked to be incognito until that'll big mouth Shannon Sharp read to be out and so so it was a great, it was a great,
Starting point is 00:14:26 Cat's Cat. I mean, you know what you're going to get with Cat. Went backstage, hollered at him for a little while, talked to Mark Curry, saw Monique, gave her a hug,
Starting point is 00:14:36 and then I had to come home and watch the fight and get ready for nightcap. But Cat's Cat. It's unbelievable. He's unbelievable. Again, I can't thank him enough we're less than
Starting point is 00:14:47 I think 200,000 away from being the all time the biggest interview on YouTube history you're going to get that but that interview is five years old mine is four months old you're going to get that
Starting point is 00:15:03 matter of fact, I got one that would beat the cat interview. I got two people you can get and sit down. You know, right now they're in a Civil War beef, rap
Starting point is 00:15:19 beef. And if you can get them to sit down. Drake and K-Dot. Man, listen, you'll do 100 million views in a day. And I can make it happen. I can make it happen. You just tell me to make the call, I can make it happen.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Well, that would be unbelievable. I mean, we're going to get to that a little bit. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad, my bad. I didn't mean to jump the gun. No, no, no, no, no. We're going to definitely get into that. But Cat Woke Folk, his Netflix yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad. My bad. I didn't mean to jump the gun. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. We gonna definitely get into that. But Cat Woke Folk, his Netflix special, I was special, was unbelievable. They got a
Starting point is 00:15:50 Netflix has this thing going on. What is it? What is it called? Netflix is a joke where they have 300 hours at 35 different events, different comedians doing their thing. It's from May 2nd to May 12th. Obviously, Cat had a big headline.
Starting point is 00:16:08 He had a big special tonight that streamed live on Netflix. That was unbelievable. So thanks, Cat. Thanks for taking care of me and my boy CJ, who's the producer, EP of Club Shea Shea. He and I went and checked it out. It was unbelievable. It was great to catch that. Made for This Mountain is a podcast that exists to empower listeners to rise above their struggles. and checked it out. It was unbelievable. It was great to catch that. You will never be able to change or grow through the thing that you refuse to identify.

Starting point is 00:17:23 or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content. The term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafak, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago,
Starting point is 00:19:13 but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:19:44 The Timberwolves go into Denver, beat the Nuggets, and still game one. So they've stolen home court early. Anthony Edwards was sensational. 43 points. He was 17 of 29, three of seven from the three, six of six.
Starting point is 00:19:59 He had 43 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a steal in two blocks, and only one turnover. He was plus 10. Go ahead. I have a question. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:10 Is it safe to say Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Anthony Edwards all had that Mamba mentality? The difference is, is Anthony Edwards has that mamba mentality with a smile on his face as opposed to Kobe took everything serious. Is it safe to say that? Yeah, they definitely have
Starting point is 00:20:33 similar personalities. Basically a kill mindset. We know Mike had that kill mindset. Yeah, but he's from the outside, he seems more charismatic. He's smiling, he's from the outside he seems more charismatic. He's smiling.
Starting point is 00:20:48 He's joking. Yeah, he's smiling, making jokes, talking shit. Yeah, but he's something special. He has now 16 playoff games and he has three games of at least 40 points in his young playoff career. At 22 years, 273
Starting point is 00:21:03 days, Edwards become the second youngest player with consecutive 40-point playoff career at 22 years, 273 days. It was become the second youngest player, uh, with consecutive 40 point playoff games, uh, after scoring 40 versus the Phoenix suns, only Kobe Bryant, who was four days younger, uh, did so at a younger age. That's crazy, man. Anytime, anytime you, uh, you can say, you know what? I did something and I'm in the same breath as Kobe. I'm in the same breath as Jordan. I'm in the same breath as Chamberlain or LeBron.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Yeah. Especially this early. I have another question for you. Now, you know my basketball knowledge and my basketball prowess is nowhere near as in-depth and deep as yours. Yeah, but you're improving.
Starting point is 00:21:45 You're working. I'm improving. I'm getting better. I'm getting better. So, is it safe to say that brother Anthony Edwards is top three in the NBA right now and has the potential to be the face of the league when LeBron is done playing? I think we're going to have... Or am I off track?
Starting point is 00:22:06 You're not far off. One of the three best players that's currently playing, I don't think anybody's taking it. If I got a team, I don't think anybody's taking them over Luka. I don't think anybody's taking them over Yolk. Now, currently playing, that's in the
Starting point is 00:22:21 playoffs. Yeah, he and Jason Tatum probably fighting it out. Jalen Brunson is in that mix also. Oh, wait. So you're saying Jason Tatum is... Okay, now you got me. Now you got me. So are you saying Jason Tatum is better than Anthony Edwards?
Starting point is 00:22:38 No, I'm saying that they're in that... Because I think JT is going to be first team all NBA. And I think Ant-Man, to be first team all NBA. And I think Ant-Man, he might, but I'm thinking more second team. But it's close. I think the two guys right now, Luka and you're not taking Ant over Luka and you're not taking him over Yoko. So now if you're fighting it out, him, JT, and Jalen Brunson. But – That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:23:11 We talk about two different positions now. Yeah. You know, I mean, Jokic is a four, right? He played a four. Five. Okay, that's right. I'm tripping. Luka plays a four, unless he played a two.
Starting point is 00:23:24 He's a point. He's the two. He's a point. He's the one. He's a good point. He's the goddamn one. He's that goddamn big. Yeah, exactly. And then you still got Shea. So, if Shea's gonna be first team all NBA.
Starting point is 00:23:40 He's nice. Yeah, he's super nice. He got that same killer mentality, too. Yeah, and he got that same killer mentality too. Yes. And he got a smile on his face. Obviously, we know Ant-Man is the most athletic of that group. Right. But he put on a show today. He had it all.
Starting point is 00:23:56 He had it all. Finishing at the rim with both hands. He had the three ball going. He had the turnaround going. He had everything. He was blocking shots. He's sensational. And I think the thing is,
Starting point is 00:24:06 like I said before, you let him get the taste in his mouth, the blood of what it's like. And he understands that in order for me to be what I want to become, I've got to do this
Starting point is 00:24:16 in the playoffs. And I'm in the playoffs. Let me... Make him remember your name, son. Yeah. And Denzel said... When Denzel said in Remember the Titans, make him remember the name, son. Yeah. And Denzel, when Denzel said, remember the Titans,
Starting point is 00:24:26 make him remember the Titans. Yeah. And, hey, you got to remember the Timberwolves. 43 points, I mean, a sensational performance. 42 minutes, 17 of 29, 3 of 7, 6 of 6, 43 big, big points. I thought the big Yolk, Rudy Gobert, I thought they did an incredible job. And Nas.
Starting point is 00:24:53 And Nas Reed. Nas went crazy in the fourth quarter. He did. He probably gave him like 13 points. He dropped 14. He dropped 14 he did he did he gave him i think he gave him he probably gave him like 13 points 11 like he dropped he dropped 14 he dropped 14 in the four like it wasn't nothing yeah they needed all that but i thought rudy gobert and i thought carl anthony town did a great job yoke shot nine threes
Starting point is 00:25:18 you can live with that that means he's not close to the basket exactly they keeping him out there they keeping him out there and he was he was he he's not he to the basket. Exactly. They're keeping him out there. They're keeping him out there. And he was – Yoke is normally really, really efficient. He was level 25, 2-9. He was 32 points, a nine assist, and what? Eight rebounds. He's normally – you don't get very many playoff games where he doesn't give you at least a double-double.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Now, we know he's going to give you double-doubling points, but it's normally a rebound and assist. A lot of times, he's going to give you a triple-double. But I thought their size, I thought they did a great job of mixing it up. And they started Carl Anthony Towns on him. They put Rudy Gobert on Gordon. Wear him down a little bit?
Starting point is 00:26:02 No. They call him to wear him down a little bit? I think the thing is, look, Gordon is not the threat Rudy Gobert. And so now look for Rudy Gobert to come help. And Rudy blocked a couple of shots coming from
Starting point is 00:26:16 the weak side. And so that's what you need. Because we've seen Yolk do a demolition job on Rudy. Carl Anthony Towns a little bit more athletic, a little bit more physical. But he got him in foul trouble. That was a really good job. That was a really big win
Starting point is 00:26:32 for the Timberwolves, considering Carl Anthony picked up his fifth foul early in the fourth and had to go to the bench. But Anthony Edwards and Nas Reed, like you said, Nas Reed coming in and getting 14 points, and Ant-Man doing a demolition job the entirety of the game. That was
Starting point is 00:26:47 really, really, they needed that. They needed that. So they've stolen home court. Yeah. They've stolen home court from him early on. Hey. Go ahead. You heard, uh, you heard the media ad joke it. What can he do? Yeah. Against the Wolves?
Starting point is 00:27:04 Three bigs, Carl Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and do? Yeah. Against the Wolves. Three bigs. Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Nas. Yeah. Yeah. And he starts talking about maybe he needs a duplicate of himself out there, a clone. You know what? He's a comedian.
Starting point is 00:27:19 He has not dry humor. That's what I'm looking for. Yeah. He got dry humor. The fact that he can laugh, the fact that he's still in good spirits and can laugh about it after losing game one. It lets me know whenever they have game two,
Starting point is 00:27:33 which I'm assuming is what Monday, Monday, Monday or Tuesday, Monday, Monday, he finna go out there and have a goddamn game. Oh, it lets me know he finna go out there and have a goddamn game.
Starting point is 00:27:43 But here's the thing. Jamal can't continuously start slow. Now, he got it going a little bit, but if you remember, the first half, he had zero points. Right. Here we go again with me not understanding. You want to get your players in rhythm.
Starting point is 00:28:02 The head coach, whoever the head coach is, you want to get your players in rhythm. Call head coach, whoever the head coach is, you want to get your players in rhythm. Call plays for those players, those individuals. You got to shoot the ball early. The earlier you shoot the ball, even if you do miss, if you do hit them, you get in rhythm a little bit faster. If you get in rhythm a little bit faster, there's no difference when you're out there playing,
Starting point is 00:28:21 you catch a ball. If you catch a ball, you know what that does for you inside and what it does for you mentally. Right. The confidence, it shoots out the roof. You hit a layup, you hit something mid-range, boom. Now you're confident out the roof. Now you get into a rhythm of the game.
Starting point is 00:28:38 The game doesn't have to go through you, but you feel that much more comfortable shooting. And from that, I'm assuming you'd be efficient. I mean, that's just my thought process. Well, he just missed some shots early. I mean, he shot great. I mean, he's the point. So he has the ball in his hands. He can take the guys off the dribble. He just missed those shots.
Starting point is 00:28:55 The shots that were going in against the Lakers, they didn't fall today. They didn't fall. They didn't fall today. A lot of guys, I mean, you look at some of the shots that Yolk was missing. They went in. So I thought maybe play Reggie Jackson a little more. Reggie Jackson played really well in the little 14
Starting point is 00:29:11 minutes that he played. He had five. He was plus 15 while he was out there. I think he should have played a little bit more. But I think Murray will turn it around. But they're going to have to be on their best behavior now. They're going to have to be on their best behavior. This Minnesota team, they really believe that they can on their best behavior now. They're going to have to be on their best behavior. This Minnesota team, they really believe that they can beat the Nuggets.
Starting point is 00:29:30 They played them tough. The Nuggets beat them last year in the semifinals. Right. But each game really came down to the wire, and they executed. And this game here was nip and tuck. And I thought, okay, they're going to get them the nuggets, know how to win games like this. They've been in battle tested.
Starting point is 00:29:48 But give the Timberwolves a lot of credit. The Timberwolves did an unbelievable job of every possession, maximizing every possession, did a great job of forcing a couple of turnovers to create extra possessions. So the Timberwolves, they're not in awe. They're not fearful of the defending champs and they got their work cut out for them trust me, they got their work cut out for them
Starting point is 00:30:09 Ocho the moment every rap fan has been waiting for has finally happened, Friday K-Dot, Kendrick Lamar and Drake Battle came to a climax and explosion of song, the day started with Kendrick's 616 in LA,
Starting point is 00:30:26 which followed Drake's seven-minute barrage of Family Matters. On searing seven-minute diss track, Drake unloaded on everyone from Rick Ross to The Weeknd to A$AP Rocky. Drake used Family Matters to levy some major accusations at Kendrick Lamar, namely that he abuses
Starting point is 00:30:41 his partner and that the child's father supposedly is kendrick longtime collaborator business partner david free the song should have been in the talk all weekend but k dot it was like a two-minute drill you know in a two-minute drill what you do yeah you call two plays you call one and you ate one we're gonna call this one and we will come right back up to the line first one on one. We got two plays called. So what Drake didn't realize that when he came out with 6-1-6, he already had something in the chamber knowing that you were going to respond.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So by the time we listen to that beat, like, oh, yeah. Boy, Drake going at this ninja. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Oh, Joe. Oh, Joe. He done dropped.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Dropped it. He done dropped Dropped it He done dropped He dropped it Listen Hardcore hip-hop fans I think this is something That they've all needed I think this is good for hip-hop
Starting point is 00:31:37 Two of the best in the game Allowing their beef to show and display through penmanship. Even though they hate each other. I think it's great. Drake is good at what he does. Kendrick Lamar
Starting point is 00:31:57 a lyricist. There's so many layers to dissect when you listen to what he's saying. It's dope. I like it. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm not a hardcore hip-hop fan, but remember when George used to release and the line used to be around the block, around the corner?
Starting point is 00:32:13 Yeah, yeah. Because everybody waiting. That's how I am right now when it comes to the quarrel between Drake and goddamn Kendrick. I don't follow their careers and know the ins and outs of all the insults and allegations that are being
Starting point is 00:32:31 said, so I'm learning everything on the run as the albums are releasing and I'm not really jumping and dissecting it and trying to find out, did he do this or did he do that? I'm just enjoying it because as a fan of rap in general, I think it's something that out did he do this or did he do that I'm just enjoying it because
Starting point is 00:32:45 as a fan of rap in general I think it's something that I think it's something that we need it's exciting and it has me on the edge of my seat obviously god damn Kendrick dropped again today and Drake dropped yesterday which
Starting point is 00:33:02 is really really dope very very creative oh man you beat your partner self defense cause she bigger than you And Drake dropped yesterday, which was really, really dope. Very, very creative. Oh, man. Hit the man. Say you beat your partner. Say it's self-defense because she's bigger than you. Yeah. Listen, the fact that Drake added the visuals to it. He added the visuals to it.
Starting point is 00:33:16 I mean, listen, the creative aspect and just the stabbing and the poking at each other. I like it. I like it. I love it. Now, I can't dive deep into it and dissect it like a Joe Budden can or some of the people that are really embedded into hip hop. I can't do that. Right. All I can do is sit here and tell you I'm enjoying it from both sides of the spectrum as a fan from the outside looking in. And the fact that they're getting it done with the pen.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Yeah. And not the bull. And it ain't going no further than that. They getting and doing it in the studio. We ain't talk about no gunplay. We ain't talk about no fighting. We do what we do best. That's getting the studio behind the mic and using the goddamn pen.
Starting point is 00:34:03 I like it. Oh, man. I mean, the way he hit ASAP, he's like, oh, yeah, you thought you were doing what you were doing. Check the timeline. He went at my cousin. He went at my cousin. Listen, I was finna jump in. I was finna jump in. I talked ASAP yesterday.
Starting point is 00:34:18 I say, bro, just let me know. But I ain't want to do that. He went at Ye. Did you hit a line at Ye? Like, oh man, they're so strategic. And if you don't listen, you'll miss it. If you don't listen, you'll miss it. And like, dude, that's the elite of the elite
Starting point is 00:34:36 when it comes to writing and creativity and the art that goes into making the beef, man. Listen, I like the fact that Drake is like 20 versus 1. Oh, yeah. He's shooting at every goddamn body. But here's the thing. Right now, he's the top dog. So if, hey, let's take your enemy as the enemy to me, too.
Starting point is 00:35:04 So, hey, let's get him. Forget fighting amongst ourselves. He's top. Let's go get him. Let's knock him off. He's Thanos right now. He's Thanos. When I think about it,
Starting point is 00:35:19 you know, Drake, the fame, the money. Kendrick. Kendrick is the type where it's not even about the money. It ain't even about the fame, the money. Kendrick is the type where it's not even about the money. It ain't even about the fame. He's releasing music in a diss track wholeheartedly with a dislike for Drake. Like from head to toe, his essence, everything about him, you can tell by the things that he's saying and the way it's written and the passion behind it. He literally disliked this individual.
Starting point is 00:35:50 And this spans, now that I've done the little bit of homework I have done, it spans from way back almost a decade. Yeah. Almost a decade. I'm like, well, God damn. I thought everybody in the industry got along because obviously it's like football.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Everybody knows each other. Think about it like football. Everybody knows each other. Think about it, huh? Everybody knows each other. It don't matter what team you play for. We all know each other. And if there are, there are very few cases of people that generally dislike each other that plays in the NFL. Well, because here's the thing. So I thought the same.
Starting point is 00:36:24 I thought it was the same when it came to rap. Okay, 50 Cent, Ja Rule. There have been some other beefs. LL, who did you say? LL Cool J and um... Kuma D and LL. Jay-Z and Nas. I mean, it happens seldom. Biggie and
Starting point is 00:36:39 Pac. I mean, it's not like reoccurring every single year. So it's like um... Ice Cube, NWA. Yeah. You had Remy Ma going at Nikki. I mean, it's not like reoccurring every single year. So it's like, um. Ice Cube, NWA. Yeah. You had Remy Ma going at Nicki. There was a couple of bars between Nicki and Meg earlier this year. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No.
Starting point is 00:39:23 It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra,
Starting point is 00:39:39 you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So is this rap beef? Is this the significance of it as big as Jay and Nas was? or is it bigger being at the time? There's more people involved. This is like World War III.
Starting point is 00:40:28 You know, you can have a war going on between two countries, but when you have the entire world going at it now, this is what makes it bigger because this was just Jay-Z and Nas. But now you got, so now you got some of the biggest. You had Jay Cole that was involved.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Jay Cole like, hey man, I can see where this thing heading. Let me get on the bottom here. I'm about to exit stage left. So you had J. Cole in it. You had you got Drake. You got K-Dawg. And then now you got Chris Brown and Quavo going at it. Right.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I forgot they going at it. Hey, I ain't know Chris Brown know how to rap like that. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, okay. Chris is one of the most talented individuals that I ain't know. I ain't know how to rap like that.
Starting point is 00:41:14 They talking about Eminem and Benzito. They went at it? They been beefing back and forth. Somebody else was going back at Eminem. Mariah Care Oh, Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey.
Starting point is 00:41:29 That's not even rap, though. Who Mariah Carey going at with? You remember Mariah Carey and Eminem was going at it? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's what, you know, they supposed to have a relationship, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I like it. I just, they have a, you know, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know, man. I like it. I just, like you said, this would be the World War III of rap beef, and I like it. I like it. It's dope, you know? Again, like I said, I can't dive in and dissect it
Starting point is 00:41:58 the way some of the people that are really good at it. Obviously, I mentioned Joe Bud's name. He's really good at it because this is what he does. This is a part of his craft and his art. But, dog, I'm waiting on Drake to drop. I don't know if it's going to drop tonight. I don't know if it's going to drop in the morning.
Starting point is 00:42:15 But I'm just waiting. Kendrick opens his song talking to Drake's son, Adonis, telling the six-year-old, Dear Adonis, I'm sorry that the man is your father. Let's be honest. It takes a man to be a man. Your dad is not responsive. Kendrick's father's boy revelation, claiming that
Starting point is 00:42:30 Drake and his label, Ovo Sound, are involved in sex trafficking, even compares Drake to Harvey Weinstein. Share power and viciousness meet the grams and the timing, adding to the belief that Kendrick had access to people in Drake's camp overshadows Drake's release.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Views have gotten personal anticipating Kendrick's execution field like it landed the most impactful blow. Well, that's what you do. Look, if we beefing, if we beefing, oh, I'm going. Everything is a green light. Everything is a green light. I thought when you beef, I thought
Starting point is 00:43:01 the kids are off limits. I thought the kids was off limits. I thought the keys was off limits. What did Park say? F you and the click you claim. We're side. We come equipped with game. You claim to be a player. We bust a bad boy.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Y'all suck for life. So ain't nothing. Once you take it there, once you take it there. Yeah. What did I tell you, Ocho? When they go low, I go to the basement.
Starting point is 00:43:28 I go to hell. If they join me in the basement, I'm going to hell. So don't be talking about, oh, we're no key, I'm not in hell now. Yeah. I just thought,
Starting point is 00:43:37 this is, when I heard the line and the message and he used Adonis in it, I said, okay, this is serious. Yeah. This is serious.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Like, they're not bullshitting. And I didn't think, I thought there was always some type of decorum to have when you do have beef with somebody where certain individuals are off limits. Mothers, kids, spouses, but... Man, they're dry about what they do. They with a mama, grandma, everybody else on the porch
Starting point is 00:44:04 if I got beef with you. Right, right, right. So all they do. They went up mama, grandma, everybody else on the porch. If I got beat, right. Right. So all that stuff that used to be, maybe that was the old, the old guard, like kids. I think,
Starting point is 00:44:11 uh, that was a scar face. No kids involved. Oh yeah. Never, never, never, never,
Starting point is 00:44:16 never, never, never. Once, once you, once you, once you come at me, I got the,
Starting point is 00:44:21 everything is on a bar. I'm gonna let the hammer go. I'll get, I'm getting everybody. Mom. They letting it go. On both sides. They letting it go. Hey. So that's...
Starting point is 00:44:35 Matter of fact, it's so funny when I think about it, right? Kendrick and goddamn Drake going back and forth is no different than the seven game NBA series. Because that's what it's like. Yeah. They're going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.
Starting point is 00:44:51 And when you really listen to it, despite the things that are being said, and I know the allegations and all that stuff that's being said, I know that that stuff is serious or whatever, but, dog, just the excitement for me as a fan on the outside looking in, you know, I'm not on nobody's side. I'm not cheering
Starting point is 00:45:10 and I'm just enjoying the beef back and forth. I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it. If you come for me and I didn't send for you, I got to send you away. Hey, my man, how your wife and my kids doing? Oh, yeah. I'm oh yeah i'm coming i'm coming hey that hurt i'm coming you asked for this that's what you wanted don't hey whoo
Starting point is 00:45:37 man just just this is just the thought of it like i'm i'm not a rapper but just the thought of it. Like, I'm not a rapper, but just the thought of someone taking shots at my kids or taking shots at real. Like, that just, like, just the thought. Like, I don't... You showed them your kids? See what I got to do?
Starting point is 00:45:58 Now I got to put that thought in your head. Huh? Hey. Now I got to go get a DNA test. Because you talking crazy. I got you looking at your people sideways. Right. Hey, but man, let me ask you a question.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Who number is this? Is that your... Oh, you paid a note over there. Such and such, such and such? Right. My bad, bro. Hey, I just happened to be in the neighborhood. Ooh. Don't play.
Starting point is 00:46:32 Don't play. Okay. Hey, that sting. Hey, that sting, now. Hey, that's going to hell. And all gloves off at that point. Oh, what you mean all gloves off? I never had gloves on. I've
Starting point is 00:46:46 been dirty. What you talking about? Y'all playing. Like I said, don't play. If you want to play, we gonna play. Listen, I just thought of that now. Hey. Just a thought.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Hey, I've been sitting on these. Hey, I keep telling about you. I've been sitting on these. I keep telling you, I've been sitting on these. I got a thousand of them. I'm on number 12. How we going to do this? I got all day. Oh, man. Who you got winning?
Starting point is 00:47:16 I mean, if you had to pick, I think it's all on preference on who and what you like. Yeah, it's just like anything. If you like a guy, you're going to believe he's winning. If you like the other guy, you're going to believe he's winning. I just want to just leave my guy out of that. You know, right now, for me,
Starting point is 00:47:36 for the longest time, I always, Park was my favorite. Oh, yeah. But that Weezy F baby, that little N ain't the BF we. Oh, yeah. But that Weezy F baby. Yeah. That little N ain't the BF weird. Yeah. You notice, you know, not very many people go at Weezy.
Starting point is 00:47:54 They can't mess with Weezy. No, not very many people go at him. Because all you're going to hear is that lighter flick. And when that lighter flick, you know what time it is. You know what time it is. If he the faggot, I ain't got no ghost rider, though, Joe. I ain't got no ghost rider.
Starting point is 00:48:08 I'm coming straight. Man, look, you know, Wayne from right here, man. Yeah. Wayne from right here. Him and Jay-Z, and I'm sure there are
Starting point is 00:48:15 other artists that can do it. Jay-Z, right here. Yeah. Off the top of the head. So how does it end, though? If you don't have a favorite right now between Kendrick and Drake,
Starting point is 00:48:27 how does something like this end? Do you see them making up years from now similar to how Jay-Z and Nas did? Or is this something that's going to be on running since the hatred has been almost a decade long? And now it's just boiled over to this point. I think, yeah. I think, you know, all can be forgiven.
Starting point is 00:48:46 You look. You brought my wife into it. I brought your kids into it. It is what it is. Hey, we're going to put it down and we're going to move on. Yeah. But.
Starting point is 00:49:00 That's going to be a while from now, though. Don't think now. Hey, I'm still in the lab. Just in case. Just in case. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:49:14 A lot of times, you know, my grandma used to cook stuff and put it in the freezer. Right. Mm-hmm. Just in case. I let it thaw out and tear your ass up again. Oh, man. But that's how, like I said, me personally, I do think it's manufactured. I think because we haven't talked about the rap game.
Starting point is 00:49:36 We haven't talked about the hip-hop game like we talked about it in the last four to five weeks. Yeah. In a very, very long time. You know, we kept asking, is hip hop dead? Is this genre music dead? Well, based on what we're seeing over the last six to eight weeks, it seems like this genre, hip hop, rap, is very much alive. But this is the thing.
Starting point is 00:49:59 Now we have a beef going on. Now, who I feel sorry for right now are other artists right now in the rap game that have projects they want to release. I think this hurts the timing of their projects because the beef is going on and everybody's talking about Kendrick and goddamn Drake. They can't release their music. I don't think it would
Starting point is 00:50:17 do as well as far as numbers and streams are concerned because Kendrick and goddamn Drake are going back and forth. Right. But all it does does all it's doing is helping drake's because what drake's done 10 billion streams now it's gonna help kendrick all the guys that's beefing people gonna go back and listen to their music and see how close the disc tracks are to what they like some of their stuff because drake always sneaky. K-Dot, he always rap it like he trying to save the slaves
Starting point is 00:50:48 or free the slaves. But I mean, man, they clever. They clever with that. Very, very strategic. Very strategic in all that they're doing, especially Kendrick. It's like Kendrick knows the moves he's going to make and he's anticipating them. And so far, far if i'm not mistaken he's been damn near right or damn near
Starting point is 00:51:10 close but i like it i mean i i like listening like i said i don't really i don't spend an enormous amount of my time during the course of the day listening to rap but you know i find myself listening at sites that was talking about okay uh uh kendrick dropped this okay i'm listening to that i'm like okay i kind of like this i listen to drake i was like okay okay nice comeback nice comeback then k-dot did what he did i like okay but i'm like okay how long are we gonna continue this right and listen the funny thing how long are we going to continue this? Right. Listen, the funny thing, how long we can continue this, they're so good with the pen,
Starting point is 00:51:49 this can go on for a very, very long time. For a very long time. It can continue going. Or I can make that call and you can be the mediator and we can have a club shea shea and have them squash things right there on the show.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Right there on the show. You know, it might be a situation, Ocho, I was sitting down one time I was talking to this young lady and she was like, Shannon, how long is this going to go on? I say forever. And I say when forever ends. So this might
Starting point is 00:52:21 be a situation somebody's going to have to call the truce yeah didn't Cardi B have a saying when we beef, we beef forever this might be it I don't believe there's going to be any general leads
Starting point is 00:52:36 going to Appomattox Courthouse with the white flag saying okay, we done had enough nah that ain't going to happen but it's been like I said we done had enough nah that ain't gonna happen but uh it's been a like I said I think it's gotten people back into listening to rap
Starting point is 00:52:52 listening people are staying by like okay is he gonna drop when it's such and such is everybody that Drake touched on are they gonna have something to say about Drake and everybody Kendrick touched on is they to have something to say about Drake? And then my Kendrick touched on, is they going to have something to say?
Starting point is 00:53:08 Or are they just going to be like, hey, move to the side. Y'all take off. Let them go out. Let them go? Yeah. Ah, I like it. You know what is so funny? They're in such a... What's the word I'm looking for?
Starting point is 00:53:25 Both of them are in demon time right now. Yeah. Going at each other. I don't think any of the people that they're calling out can release anything that will be as good as the tracks that we've heard so far. I don't know if I'm saying that the right way.
Starting point is 00:53:41 It won't hit the same. Not that I'm saying that they can't do it, but I'm just saying the work and the craftsmanship of what's been released on both sides has been so good. I think it wouldn't be smart for anyone else that's been called out to say anything right now. Just let those two just go at it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:05 I think the thing is, but the question is when it's all said and done, when we look back on this, well, anything that they released, will it rival get them up Tupac? Oh, will it rival?
Starting point is 00:54:16 No Vaseline. Will it ride? Will it rival ether? Uh, Nas, uh, really my sheath or, uh, right. Well, when we look back, let's say 10, 15emy Ma, Sheether.
Starting point is 00:54:27 When we look back, let's say 10, 15 years from now, what do you think? When we look back on this, when we think about the beefs, rap beefs, do we feel any of these will be mentioned? Obviously, they're going to be mentioned because we got two heavyweights
Starting point is 00:54:44 going at it. When you think beef, you automatically hit them up no vaseline ether just when i when i think you know what's funny when i think about all the beasts that that have come out i think kendra's his aspect in his delivery is so fucking complex that you have to sit there and you have to dissect and actually think and use your brain to really put the pieces to the puzzle together to understand what he's talking about right if you don't know everything in its entirety right on what he's talking on what he's saying right i think that's i think that's what i like about kendrick when he disses obviously drake is straight to the point and you understand exactly who and what he's talking about because he delivers in such a way
Starting point is 00:55:28 where you can goddamn understand it right away. And with Kendrick, there's so many different layers that you have to fucking peel back and put together. You're like, oh shit, okay, now I get it. Yeah, that's what he meant. It makes it that much more interesting. The thing is, here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I think most people think Drake, whether you like him or not, I think right now, commercially, he might be one or two. The thing that made Biggie and Pac, they were universally regarded as the one and two. Now, whatever space you want to put them in,
Starting point is 00:56:00 you want Pac one and Biggie two, you want Biggie one, Pac two.
