Starting point is 00:05:58 Our newest release drops Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern. Make sure we've been doing a little teaser stuff for it, so hopefully you guys have seen it and like what you see. The Suns beat the Clippers in the first ever game at Intuit Dome. Okay, it is Intuit Dome, and it went to overtime. KD had 25 points. Bradley Beal had 24. Devin Booker filed out with a little over two minutes left in regulation
Starting point is 00:06:24 and basically left K regulation and um basically left kd and bill they had to pick up the scoring they got a contribution from yusef nurkic late with a couple of free throws and some big rebounds as they go on the road and they went in the new arena of the la clippers um james harden looked like james harden tonight especially in the second half he was really really aggressive um and then he's to have to be like this because he doesn't have Kawhi. He doesn't have PG. So he's going to have to play a lot like he played at Houston, where he's going to have to be aggressive.
Starting point is 00:06:53 He's going to have to put up a lot of shots. Probably won't be the most efficient James Harden, but that's okay. Because of outside of him, where are they going to get scoring from? I mean, consistent scoring. Without Paul George and without Kawhi, obviously we know Paul George is now in Philly, and Kawhi is out indefinitely. So James Harden is going to have to be the old James Harden,
Starting point is 00:07:14 the James Harden that we saw in Houston, where he put a lot of the scoring, a lot of the facilitating on his back, and to get these guys to where they need to be. I don't know how far he can take them, especially at his age, because the team is really not constructed like it was in Houston, where he had a bunch of guys and their job was to make sure they get James the ball and get out of the way.
Starting point is 00:07:34 So it's going to be very interesting. I believe in Ty Lue. I trust Ty Lue. He's one of the great coaches, but he's got his work cut out for him because he doesn't have a whole lot of offensive scoring, especially with those two. One guy gone and the other guy being injured. So James Harden, we're going to see. He did a great job of facilitating the ball.
Starting point is 00:07:51 But like I said, he wasn't terribly efficient tonight. Go ahead, Ocho. So with that being said, with everything you just said, obviously Kawhi being out indefinitely, Paul George is gone. I'm sure they're probably going to miss him and not be able to get the points that he would be able to get you a night. So what would the Clippers season be this season? What would their
Starting point is 00:08:11 expectations be if you're a Clippers fan knowing that Kawhi is out, PG is gone, and James Harden has to show the load night in and night out? What is the ceiling for them? No matter what the ceiling is, they just went to a new arena. You got to put
Starting point is 00:08:27 butts in seats. The Dodgers are in the World Series. The Lakers are the Lakers. Do you understand how LA works, Ochoa? Let me tell you, it's a little different than when you went to college. Let me tell you, I lived out there.
Starting point is 00:08:45 There's Venice Beach. There's Santa Monica. There when you went to college. Let me tell you, I lived out there. There's Venice Beach. There's Santa Monica. There's eating on the patio. There's the Pacific Coast. There's a lot of things to do. If you're not winning, they're not coming. Because a lot of the people in LA are transient. So they're not born LAans.
Starting point is 00:09:02 The Clippers are originally, first of all, they were the Buffalo Braves. And then they went down to San Diego. And now they're up born LA-ians. The Clippers are originally, they were, first of all, they were the Buffalo Braves, and then they went down to San Diego, and now they're up in LA. So they don't have the attachment to a team like the Lakers. The Lakers have been, if I'm not mistaken, the Lakers have been in LA 60-plus years. So the people, think about it, and you know the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:09:23 You know Will. You know Elgin. you know will you know elgin you know jerry west you know kareem magic shack colby worthy when you think of the clippers who you're thinking about clipping down exactly marcellus wiley unfortunately those guys don't put butts in seats and so the expectations are i'm sure they were expecting, build this new arena. They got tired of having a building, being second field. They're the second cousin. They're in the basement at crypto.com because of the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:09:57 We want our own building. Well, if you build your own building, and I get it, Steve Ballmer, he's the wealthiest owner worth over 120 billion dollars built the arena i get all of that but how do you attract if you build they will come that is not true but now you got to have the product you got to have the product on the floor and they will come that that's that's the that's the easy part obviously winning is one of but in order to win you have to have a team structure and organize to put butts in the seats. And they just don't have that right now. So me thinking based on the question that I asked, the expectation of the Clippers obviously has to be low.
Starting point is 00:10:33 It has to be low. I mean, for you and I, but when you look at it, that arena probably cost a couple of billion dollars, Ocho. It's nice like that. Oh, yeah. Oh, it's all state of the art because you got to realize who built it. It was a tech guy. When they build things, it's state of the art because you're going to want other high-tech events. You'll probably want the Final Four.
Starting point is 00:10:59 You'll want something else in that building other than the Clippers. The generation. Yeah, you're going to want high-end stuff, a Beyonce concert, Taylor Swift concert, whatever the case may be. You're going to want things. So you're going to want the latest and greatest in technology in that building. With that being said, as you said, the product on the court, I just don't know how many, and I think T.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Lou is a fabulous coach. Y'all know what I think of T. Lou. just don't know how many and i think t lou is a fabulous coach y'all know what i think of t-move um i just don't know if he has the horses to win races like we're used to seeing the clippers now we know they haven't won a championship but we always thought okay they're gonna make the playoffs and if everybody can stay healthy now kawaii with the exception of maybe the bubble kawaii hasn't been able to stay healthy then Then Paul George got nicked. So for whatever reason, over the last—Kawhi got there in, what, 2019? He hasn't been able to stay healthy.
Starting point is 00:11:54 And without Kawhi, and now with no Paul George and just James Harden, James Harden used to be able to carry the team. He got Houston into the playoffs a lot of years, but mainly it was just him. But he was putting up some of the great offensive numbers that rival whoever you thought your great. I mean, you don't remember all those in the 50s and 60s when 10, 15 guys were scoring 30 plus points and grabbing. Wilt was grabbing 50
Starting point is 00:12:17 and 25 and Elgin Baylor and all those guys were getting those numbers. But if you go back and look at Kobe's best season as far as scoring, you go back and look at Jordan best season as as far as scoring, you go back and look at Jordan's best season as far as scoring, Harden was doing that. The 60-point triple-double, the 50-point triple-double, the 30-point on a nightly basis for 15, 20, 30 straight games. That's what James Harden was doing.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I don't know at his age now, Ocho, I don't know if he can give you that kind of production. I mean, but when I think about it, obviously you never forget how to play the game of basketball, regardless of age. Obviously, LeBron has been able to do it, obviously due to him being able to stay healthy. When I think about James Harden and how efficient he is from mid-range
Starting point is 00:13:01 at the three, being able to create space and create his own shot, all it comes down to is, for one, being in shape and being able to hit the shots and now you have no pressure so you always have that green light in your head well you know what i can i have the freedom to be able to take those shots and be as efficient as i was when i was in houston at that time because there's really no one else that can score a point. So I had the freedom to just shoot at will. Yes, he does. You look at it. He played 40 minutes tonight.
Starting point is 00:13:30 He was 10 of 28. And so when you look at it, Derrick Jones Jr., 5 of 6. Zubox, who fouled out, was 8 of 13. Terrence Mann played 27 minutes. He was 4 of 6. Norman Powell, 5 of 16. And then you get Batum, 0 of 2.
Starting point is 00:13:49 K. Jones, 3 of 5. Coffey was 4 of 4. So if you look at Chris Dunn, 2 of 4. Kevin Porter Jr. was 1 of 8. And see, you see the thing is, you see the shot? James Harden is going to take the bulk of the shot. Bulk of the shot, yeah. But he's taking step-back threes. That is not the most efficient shot that you can take.
Starting point is 00:14:09 He's going to go to them. He's going to try. And he's not getting the calls. You remember, he used to go to the free-throw line 15, 16. And hit that flop with the hands up. They're not giving him that anymore. And when you say he hasn't forgot how to play the game, Aaron Rodgers hasn't forgot how to play the game.
Starting point is 00:14:25 He's just old. And over the last four to five games, what did we hear Aaron Rodgers say after every game? I've got to play better. I've got to play better. As you get older, it gets harder and harder for you to sum it up. You can have a game hearing there. But to have that repetitive game, the Ocho used to go get me 115,
Starting point is 00:14:43 get me 120, get me 95, go get me another buck 10, go get me 105. It get harder. Yeah, you see? Yeah. Back when you were your teen to 20, you give it to them back to back. Yeah, yeah. You go boom, boom.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Come on, baby. Come on, boom. Come on, baby. Boom, boom. Come on, baby. Now you're like, hey, you ready for round two, girl? I'll get you in the morning. You got it. Yeah. Go on, baby. Now you're like, hey. She's like, hey, you ready for round two? Girl, I'll get you in the morning. You got it.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Yeah. All right. All right. Hey. Hey. I tell her, hey. I got a spade hand, Ocho. I got two of the possible.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:17 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. okay you got one i got one book oh joe right right but i also got the king of diamond queen of diamond jack of diamond the five and the fourth of diamond they might be cutting these diamonds so i got two of the possible but if they cut because i counted the ace of the king so and that's and that's where they are right now, Ocho. I just, like I said, Shams reported today that Kawhi will miss weeks. Weeks.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Remember, Ocho, he missed the last part of last year. They sent him home from the Olympics because of the knee. He was rehabbing. I guess he had surgery again. I don't know. Don't quote me on that.
Starting point is 00:16:02 But he's going to miss weeks. Think about it. The season ended in April, May, June, July, August, September. We're in October. Six months. He's about to go into month seven. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Starting point is 00:21:00 values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction, those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me me now on Audible.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Hey, it must be some serious. It must be some serious that we don't know about. But to be able to miss that amount of time, already had surgeries. You have the resources and the money for any type of specialist anywhere in the world and the fact after such a long extended period of time being off since last season and the new season starting and still not being able to go at this point something ain't right yeah but here's the thing though ojo you know you can only go into the same body part so many times. How many times they're
Starting point is 00:22:25 going to open that knee up and draw fluid off it or get loose particles out of it. At some point in time, he's got to be pretty close. If he's not already, that knee is arthritic. Now there's a good chance, there's a great
Starting point is 00:22:41 chance that it's bone on bone. And when you get bone on bone some days days that thing feel good, Ocho, and I can go out there and play. But I tell you what, whoo, the next morning, you're going to feel like you're stepping on hot nails. Yeah. And then, you know, being on that hard wood, don't make it no easier. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:00 And you got to do it back to back because they play 82 of those things. And so they got a Tuesday game. They got a Wednesday game. And then they're going to play again Friday or Saturday. So I got three games and up and down, up and down. That's all you do is stop stopping and starting. All right. Yeah. It's tough.
Starting point is 00:23:19 I feel bad for him because his body is broken down. And I have yet to see a person get healthier as they age. Yeah. It just doesn't happen. And that's what happened. I mean, what could have been? You look at his career, his trajectory, that it was on. And yeah, he's a Hall of Famer,'s a he's a two-time defensive player of the
Starting point is 00:23:47 year he's a two-time finals mvp he's an all six-time all-star he's an all-star game mvp uh he's an all nba player but you just think about man what could his career have been had he been able to stay healthy and there are a lot of guys that we can say that about. There are a lot of guys that we like. We look at a Brandon Roy. A guy had all the ability. What could he have a career have been? And that's what we're going to say.
Starting point is 00:24:16 That's what we're going to say about Kawhi. Guy that didn't talk. You didn't talk about he didn't talk much. Hell, he didn't talk at all. He only talked. Yeah. Hey, he was basically Marshawn Lynch. He was here just so he didn't get fined that was it he doesn't have a whole lot to say but man you know when he got on the court he's gonna give you everything he had he didn't say a whole he didn't say much
Starting point is 00:24:35 didn't say anything really but he was a two-way player he could go get you 25 30 um he could lock it down he'd take the opposing team's best player and limit him to under his average. He's not going to stop the best players. This notion that, oh, he's a defensive player and the guy. No. What you do, if the guy averages 25, you hold him to 23. You hold him to 20. You don't
Starting point is 00:24:58 let him get 35. Just like last night. I'm watching the game last night. I was at the game last night, and I'm looking at Anthony Davis, and he's making me a Rudy Gobert. A three-, four-time defensive player of the year. And AD got 36-16. I'm like, Dad, I'm not saying you got to stop him, but you can't let the man average damn near 12, 14 points more
Starting point is 00:25:20 than what he normally gets. Right. But, yeah, I think you have to lower the seat hey oh joe is like when you're a kid you know you got this rim and the kid like he can't shoot the ball or this so you got to lower the rim so the kid can get the ball into the hoop i definitely agree with you i think we're gonna have to lower the expectations um for the clippers, but I don't know if they necessarily if Clipper fans want to hear that, especially in that new arena.
Starting point is 00:25:50 The tickets aren't cheap. I'm sure Steve Barmer doesn't want to hear that. He's paid a lot of money. Yeah. He spent over $2.2 billion to buy this team. He spent a lot of money on Kawhi. He spent a lot of money on Paul George. He traded spent a lot of money on Kawhi. He spent a lot of money on Paul George.
Starting point is 00:26:05 He traded away a lot of his assets in order to try to win right now because when you're in L.A., what you're doing? You're competing with the Lakers. Yeah. I mean, it is what it is. That's what you're up against because that's the team that's here.
Starting point is 00:26:21 And he didn't want to wait. And he had to make this move because Kawhi was going to go to the Lakers. If he didn't give him what he wanted. So basically he gave him the keys to the castle. But what happened is that Kawhi lost the keys. His injuries, you get Paul George, you trade away,
Starting point is 00:26:43 Shea Gilgis, you trade away, Golinari, you trade away Shea Gilgis, you trade away Golinari, you trade away unprotected lottery picks and pick swaps. It's fine if you win. So no matter what you think about the Lakers, where they traded all these assets, they traded Ingram, they traded
Starting point is 00:26:57 B.I. They traded B.I., they traded Hart. They got a championship. You get a championship. So you think Obama could do it again? You think he gets rid of Shea? Knowing what the outcome
Starting point is 00:27:12 would have been? No. Shea's 24. Yeah. And can you imagine if he was still with the Clippers, him and Harden? I don't know if they get Harden,
Starting point is 00:27:21 but I think the thing is you see what the OKC did. They got him. He developed. They built around him. Hey, that boy good. And so you look at Jalen Williams. Jalen Williams, young.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Chet Hungry, young. They just traded for AC. So they got a young team. They hungry. Joe, I a young team. They hungry. Joe, I think his name is Isaiah Joe. They got some guys that can shoot the three. Shea can shoot the three, but he can put the ball on the floor. He got a nice mid-range game.
Starting point is 00:27:54 He can finish at the rim. He's not an above-the-rim player, the old Joe. He's not athletic like Russ. He's not athletic like D. Rose. Right, right. Man. You got a smooth game. Average to get you 30 on a nightly. Smooth
Starting point is 00:28:12 and easy too. So the Suns beat the Clippers in the first ever game, meaningful game, and into it dome. I think it was 116 to 113 if I'm not mistaken. Damn, what's the score? I think that was the score.
Starting point is 00:28:32 116 to 113, the final overtime. I was about to lose my damn mind because I said, boy, if they go into a second overtime, I'm going to have to come over here and say, guys, I'm sorry for tonight, but the show has been canceled. Right, right, right. The Warriors beat the Brakes off the Blazers. Steph nearly recorded the show has been canceled. Right, right, right. The Warriors beat the Brakes off the Blazers. Steph nearly
Starting point is 00:28:47 recorded the triple-double. He had 17 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds, while sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Man, y'all let Steph get that rebound. Nah, because see what happened? Remember, hey, they put Chris Godwin back in a meaningless game. Now he gone for the season. Buddy Hill had 22 points
Starting point is 00:29:04 in just 15 minutes. That's one thing. My buddy. My buddy. Oh, he get hot. He can stroke it now. He can let it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Buddy can shoot now. So, the Warriors made 23s. Had 7 players
Starting point is 00:29:18 in double figures. Steph Curry had 17. Jackson Davis had 14. Andrew Wiggins had 20. Draymond Green doing Draymond things. He got a technical foul early. Kaminga had 10. Moses Moody had 15.
Starting point is 00:29:36 D'Anthony Melton had 10. Buddy Hill had 22. So the Warriors, hey, they can shoot it now. It's a good one. Now you talk about the Warriors, but they shoot the night. So Andrew Wiggins had 20, right? Buddy Hill had 22. Is it safe to say,
Starting point is 00:29:56 and you would know better than I would, and Chad, y'all stay with me now, if Andrew Wiggins and Buddy Hill play consistently like this, do you think they misclear at all no but what if what has history shown you about andrew wiggins he's been inconsistent with the exception of that yeah he's a stock market he's a roller coaster he's up and down now he had a lot on his mind obviously last year he's dealing with some family issues if i'm not
Starting point is 00:30:22 mistaken his father passed away so i'm sure that weighed on his mind this past season. And he's probably, there's a good chance his dad probably was sick for a while. And maybe that was on his mind. That weighed heavily on his mind. But Wiggins has been really consistent. Now, the year they won the championship, he was phenomenal. He was offensive, defensive, played really, really well on both ends of the court.
Starting point is 00:30:47 But they need these young guys. They need the Kamingas to be consistent. They need the Moses Moody's to take that next step and become more consistent. Pods, he played okay. I mean, he has moments where he's like really, really good.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Tonight, he played 25 minutes, had zero points, had seven rebounds, four assists. He was 0-5 and field goals 0-4 from the three. But they got some guys that can score. I like Gary Payton Jr. He can, you know, he gets you six to ten points. He's a defensive guy, rebound, steal the ball, plays tough on a nightly basis. And that's what they have. The one thing, they're well-coached, they're disciplined,
Starting point is 00:31:26 they know who they are, and they get – the thing is they're surprising about when you look at the Warriors, they rebound better than you think because they shoot the ball from the outside so much because they take a lot of threes, don't you know? The ball, they kind of have a great sense of where the ball is, so they get a lot of hustle rebounds. They don't necessarily, you know, beach up on the glass like a team
Starting point is 00:31:45 that the old Celtics used to. They went 6'10", 7-foot Robert Parrish, 6'10", Kevin McHale, 6'9", Larry Bird, things of that nature. They get a lot of rebounds because of the care of the basketball from them shooting threes.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Another thing, speaking on the game tonight, obviously them shooting well, Curry not playing in the fourth quarter, but you got to understand, they were playing the Blazers now. And then they had 17 turnovers. They had 17 turnovers.
Starting point is 00:32:15 And now if you're playing a better team, a better team that can have the same type of offensive aerial assault that you do from behind the arc, let's say like a goddamn boston celtics oh yeah a team of that sort you know the scoreline would be looking a lot different when you got another team that can shoot like that but you turn on turn the ball over like crazy yeah what it's the same thing um in football you turn over get your beat basketball turn over to get
Starting point is 00:32:40 your beat you commit errors in baseball you lose game um you allow team to get extra at bats uh because you could have been out of an inning and now all of a sudden you allow somebody else to come to the plate and they got runners on and the next thing you know the ball is in play and you get you know a run or two home or the ball goes over the fence and you get two to three runners home and so yeah mistakes cost you in sporting events. It really does. You see it in tennis. You have an opportunity to close out a match or a set, and you give somebody life, and the next thing you know, you find yourself in a free fall, and you're like,
Starting point is 00:33:15 damn, I had to match on my racket. Right. And you lose. So mistakes cost you. Normally it costs you in sporting events. So nobody's surprised by that. The Lakers beat the Timberwolves last night, 110 to 103. LeBron James,
Starting point is 00:33:30 Bronny James make history, appearing in the same regular season game, marking the first time a father-son duo shared the court in the NBA's 79-year history. I was at their last night game with my daughter, Ocho, and it was a moment. What that was like, man. What that was like, man.
Starting point is 00:33:45 What that was like, man. What was the atmosphere like? I mean, just, I can't even imagine a father and son playing at the same time on the same team. I was surprised because I thought the energy would be a little different. I didn't feel the buzz. I didn't feel the electricity. I've been to Laker games. I was at the Laker game when LeBron broke the scoring record.
Starting point is 00:34:07 And you could feel the electricity even though they lost the game. Oh, that's right. When he passed Kareem. When he passed Kareem. Yeah. You could feel the buzz. I've been there in the playoff game. Now, obviously, this is not a playoff game.
Starting point is 00:34:17 But I thought there would be a little bit more electricity in the arena. And it wasn't like that. It was a great moment because I'm old enough to remember when Griffey and his dad, you know, they obviously hit a home run in the same game. I'm old enough to remember that. As Griffey reminded me last night because he was up under the basket on the court side, he and his dad,
Starting point is 00:34:40 and I was a little bit more to the center, straight across from the Timberwolves bench. He and I was talking. I didn't realize this. I thought we were the same age, but I'm actually about 17 months older than Griffey. We were
Starting point is 00:34:57 talking. I remember that moment, Ocho, when him and his dad came up and they were on the same, but the likelihood, that was 30 plus years ago, 35 years ago, I think, if I'm not mistaken. The likelihood, Ocho, of us seeing
Starting point is 00:35:13 something like that again, think about that was 35 years ago. So, your dad, think about it, Tom Brady played 23 years. Now, you're going to have to have kids, probably in your late teens that's what lebron did i think lebron and brony probably was what 1920 at the latest right same thing with griffin griffin senior and junior so you're probably gonna have a key have to have a kid
Starting point is 00:35:38 somewhere in your late teens early early 20 2021 and you're going to have to be good enough to play long enough and your son is going to have to be good enough to get to that level and football is virtually impossible because you got the three years that you got I mean your class has to be gone
Starting point is 00:36:00 so you got to be in college at least three years and your dad has got to be really really good and play a three years. And your dad has got to be really, really good at playing a position that's conducive for him to do that. A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up. So now I only buy one. The demand curve in action. And that's just one of the things we'll be

The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next.
Starting point is 00:38:21 In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space
Starting point is 00:39:05 and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly
Starting point is 00:40:33 and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life
Starting point is 00:41:11 through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. And you know what? I'm thinking about the Griffies as well, being able to play together.
Starting point is 00:41:55 There are so many father and son duos that didn't have the opportunity to play together, but it's so many father, it's so many sons that are playing whose dads also played the game as well. Yeah, yeah. I'm talking about a lot of them. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah um football obviously uh uh archie payton and eli you got uh uh the matthews uh clay matthews clay matthews uh junior um you got you got jake matthews his dad Bruce Matthews there are a lot you got Joe Horn and his son so yeah
Starting point is 00:42:30 they're below so football is just impossible unless somebody had a kid of a 14-15 year old and he plays, and he can play long like Brady, because think about it. Brady kids in high school, Brady played
Starting point is 00:42:49 23 years. But Brady got a late start having kids. Right. He did. No, he didn't get too late to start, because I think his oldest son, Jet, probably, what, 14, 15? Let's just say for the sake of
Starting point is 00:43:06 we give him 16 Ocho let's give him 16 Brady's about to be retired 3 years and he ain't even in high school he might be a sophomore in high school yeah that's difficult too
Starting point is 00:43:20 especially a contact sport like we play it have to be a position where longevity that allows you to play long quarterback or kicker longevity you got to be good there you go you got to be good at which good you got to be first of all you got to be good enough to stay that long and so some team don't want to keep your ass that long and then your son gotta be good to fast track himself to get there we thought like i don't remember i mean but i think the holes but i think it was in uh uh brett and bobby hall i know how was it brett and bobby i think it might have been gordy how
Starting point is 00:43:57 might have given gordy how played with his sons in hockey but the likelihood of us seeing that ocho like i said it's gonna be somebody's got to have kids in their early teens and the kids got to be really good to get there. And so to be there, to witness it last night and, you know, I, I, I, I DM Ron like, bro, I ain't get a chance to see you after the game, but it was just great to, to be there and to see it, to see them check in at the same time. And it would be, he only played
Starting point is 00:44:25 a couple of minutes two minutes um now that that's out of the way hopefully you know and it's it's tough to get better when you don't get minutes so like for me oh joe like i wasn't like i played mainly special team the way i got better scout team I was cooking for them because that was my game every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that was my game give the defense the best look I possibly could
Starting point is 00:44:55 I'm running their stuff but I'm really working on my stuff and you know the thing he don't run it like that oh my bad he should because he'd be open like I'm open. If he ran it like that. And the thing was, I'm really trying to win. I'm really trying to win.
Starting point is 00:45:15 And Wade Phillips would tell the defense, oh, don't worry about it. They're tight and can't move like that. Right. And so hopefully Bronny, like in scrimmages he's working on his he's working on his game and i don't know how much they you know obviously lebron ain't really doing a whole lot you know this bailey walk through as an ad like that but hopefully when they can get an opportunity and he gets some five on five in against some of the other guys that don't get a whole lot of minutes or not playing like himself he's working on the game because that's the only
Starting point is 00:45:43 way he's going to get better there ain't no way he can get better just sitting there watching his dad and watching the other guys run up and down the court. He's going to have to get some time in to work on his own game. I mean, well, obviously, you had the opportunity to be at the game. I mean, I know it's only one game. Obviously, you really can't. That's a small sample size, especially for a new coach. I mean, how do you feel about J.J. Redick?
Starting point is 00:46:06 I thought he was good. I thought he responded to him. The little bit of time, I've only been around him a little bit, Ocho. He's very well prepared. He's very, very meticulous. You can tell that he knows the game. He knows the, okay, they did this. This is what we need to do.
Starting point is 00:46:26 We did that. They'll probably counter with this. Okay, here's our other counter. You can tell that his mind is constantly at work. And I think the thing is, is because he's so meticulous, he played the game. He played, what, 13, 14 years? He averaged like 12 points a game. So it wasn't like he was i mean
Starting point is 00:46:46 everybody know what he was at duke they hated him at duke but he was like he liked your ass up in college and he was player of the year yeah he was he was he was a he was a great college player but he was a really good nba player and right he's a student of the game and you could tell like some of these guys you could tell guys who's gonna be coaches when they got done you could tell, like some of these guys, you could tell guys who's going to be coaches when it got done. You could look at T. Lou and you could say, T. Lou's going to be a coach. I mean, Derrick Fitch is going to be a coach. He's one of those guys you look at. Man, I can see J.J. Redick being a coach.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Some guys you can just, you know, some guys you can just see that's going to be the role that they're going to, that's the path that they're going to take. Yeah. Yeah, it's in them. I mean, the thing is, he'd say he wants to talk to the league and ask why do they have to use brand new basketballs for the game. He wants to use balls that have been worn in that they've actually used before. Kind of like football. Because remember, it was Peyton Manning and Brady Neal that went to the league and asked them, because now
Starting point is 00:47:47 they'll let you put the balls in the dryer or the washer and let you scrub them down and get some of the sheen off them. We used to get the balls right out of the damn box. What the hell? Yeah, you got to scrub it down. They didn't let you do that now. They didn't let you do that
Starting point is 00:48:03 before because the ball be like the kicking ball. You see how shiny the point of the ball and the kicking ball is? They got that sheen on them. Yeah. Man, hey, give me that ball. Put it on the ground and try to get a little dirt on it, don't you? You won't be able to grip it or throw it if you try to get that thing right out of the box. And so, yeah, but I think the Lakers, look,
Starting point is 00:48:26 AD play like, look, we know what AD is because we've seen AD give some of the best bigs, be it Giannis, be it Embiid, be it Bam. It does not matter. When AD is locked in, because he can do it on both ends of the court. He's the guy that can go get you
Starting point is 00:48:42 30 and 20 and give you four blocks and give you four steals and shoot a high percentage from the court. He's the guy that can go get you 30 and 20 and give you four blocks and give you four steals and shoot a high percentage from the floor. He's phenomenal. 6'10", athletic, has range, can shoot to three, but he don't live it. I don't like if he tries to live and dive out of three. He can put the ball on the floor and finish
Starting point is 00:49:00 at the rim. He got a mid-range shot. He got to play with his back to the basket. He got to step back. AD is all around great. And now I think the thing is he's doing a better job of taking care of his body. Played a lot of games last year, which was the most he had played in a very, very long time.
Starting point is 00:49:16 And he looked good. He looked good last night. His body looks fresh. He looks healthy. He looks strong, looks fit. So I definitely like what I saw from A.D. last night. I like what I saw from Brian. Even though Brian didn't take a whole lot of shots, he's still going to work himself.
Starting point is 00:49:32 I could tell early that I think probably four minutes into the game, he put his hands up because of the excitement. Man, my son. I'm about to play with my son. I know he was anxious about that. You know when you get anxious, Ochoa, all of a sudden'm about to play with my son. So I know he was anxious about that. And so you know when you get anxious, Ochoa,
Starting point is 00:49:46 all of a sudden you start to hyperventilate. Yeah, you're nervous. But I can tell. Anthony Davis praised the elite game plan of J.J. Redick, the game plan, the schemes that we had on both ends of the floor. He trusts us. We trust him as far as what he teaches us, what he wants us to do on the floor on both ends, and it's He trusts us. We trust him. As far as what he teaches us, what he wants us to do on the floor,
Starting point is 00:50:05 on both ends, and it's our job to go execute it. I think we were very, very prepared tonight. Damn. I like it. That's a good thing. Shoot, listen, on the other end of the spectrum,
Starting point is 00:50:19 like watching that Laker game, obviously the moment LeBron and Bronny had was really dope, but I was curious to see, you know, how the Wolves look. You know, with their two new assets and Julius Randle and Dante... DiVincenzo.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Okay, okay. I thought I said it right. So I was curious to see how they look tonight and really compare who won that trade between, you know, the Wolves and the Knicks. You won't know until the end of the year. Oh, Joe. Cause,
Starting point is 00:50:45 uh, you know, if you look at it, uh, Ant-Man looks sensational last night. I don't know if they're going to play this, but Ant-Man was mic'd up and I didn't know it. And he was right there in front of our bench.
Starting point is 00:50:55 And I looked at him. I'm like, Hey, you're like, what? I said, I don't know if you got a frame for a football. That ain't no football frame.
Starting point is 00:51:02 You got, Hey, if I look, if i lift like you i look like you he said hey yeah i'm coming from where you from he's a i say i don't know he said hey he said i put a lot of work in his body to look like this he said but if i would have lived weights he got he kind of like his upper body ocho kind of built like your cousin he got a narrow he got, he kind of like his upper body, Ocho kind of built like your cousin. He got a narrow, he got a point, point clavicle.
Starting point is 00:51:27 He really narrow. But basketball players don't really need to lift weights with the upper body because they got to be fluid through here. They don't need no tricep, no bicep. They don't need no delt. They don't need to be, they don't need to be built like a football player.
Starting point is 00:51:39 I had to have shoulders. I got to take them blows. Right. So, but if you, but he said, I mean, he, you know, we heard what he said. He said, hey, if he wins a title in the next three to four years, he go play football. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:52 Yeah. I mean, go ahead and stay where you at, bro. Go and get that money. Yeah. If anybody can do it, he can do it. Oh, Joe, they just gave, they just gave Jason Tatum 318 million. By the time Ant-Man contract come around, it's going to be at $400 million. Ant-Man, get that $400 million.
Starting point is 00:52:09 You get an opportunity to get two-fold. You get an opportunity to Ant-Man. How old is Ant-Man? 24? Yeah, 24, 25. Ant-Man got a chance to make a billion dollars in basketball. I ain't talking about endorsements. I ain't talking about shoe contracts.
Starting point is 00:52:23 I ain't talking about stuff off the field stuff off the court. I'm talking about he has an opportunity to get a billion dollars in salary. Ant-Man is 23. Man, look here. Ant-Man. Wait, you're 23? Ant-Man, listen to me. Listen to me. I'm looking into your home. You ain't got nothing to prove.
Starting point is 00:52:42 You can say, hey, I can play football and leave it at that. Man, you be go get that money. I'm going to get that bill. Listen, he can go get that bill. He might be able to double dip like Prime and be the first two-way player to play in the NFL and the NBA.
Starting point is 00:53:01 Amen. Get that billy. Get that billy and don't even worry about nobody you try to you ain't got nothing to prove go get this money the risk man that football hey i understand oh joy it ain't it's not the physical game they've legislated a lot of the physicality out of it but it's still a day it's still an inherently dangerous and physical game. It is what it is. But it was great to see.
Starting point is 00:53:29 I wanted to see Ant-Man play. There are a couple other players that I want to see play. And hopefully I get a chance to see them. I'd like to see Jason Tatum play. Luka. I'd like to see Luka. I want to see Yoke. Nikola to see Luca. I want to see Yolk. Nikola Jokic.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Well, Nikola is Nikola. So there are a couple of guys I want to see play in Bede, but... The volume.
