The South Carolina Gamecocks take down. They ran rough shot over the number 10 Texas A&M Aggies. Ocho 44 to 20. They have two guys rushed for over 100 yards. The running back Sanders 24 buck 44.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Lenore Sanders, the quarterback, 15 for a buck 06. 43 carries 286 yards. The running back, Sanders, 24 buck 44. Lenore Sanders, the quarterback, 15 for a buck 06. 43 carries, 286 yards. Sellers also threw the ball for 244 yards, over 500 yards of total offense against the number 10 team in the country. The South Carolina Gamecocks could easily have taken down Alabama
Starting point is 00:03:19 and LSU. They lost on the last play of the game, I think, if I'm not mistaken, Ocho, in both of those games. Again, let me welcome you guys. Thank you for joining us for Nightcap. I am your favorite on Shannon Sharp. He is your favorite. The guy with the sunglasses on, he back in the house. Temporarily that is.

Please go follow my media company page on all platforms. That's Shay Shay Media and my clothing company with 84 being spelled out. Our newest release dropped last week. And what dropped was I was held when I was well.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I'll lie for you before I lie to you. T-shirts. We had the black nightcap hoodies and by popular demand, stay with me now, is also back in a hoodie. And of course, our best sellers, which is the Unc and Ocho tees. We got a lot of requests for the Unc and Ocho tees to come in black and we listened. So this morning we dropped them in the store. Quantities are limited, so please make sure you go grab yours while supplies last. Ocho, South
Starting point is 00:05:08 Carolina, we talked about a little bit at the top. Drum, the number 10 Texas A&M Aggies, 44-20. Carolina and All Black, my brother, obviously, my brother went to the University of South Carolina, went to a lot of games. In the night games, they get real raucous. They
Starting point is 00:05:23 come out in All Black. Now, I don't know games they get real rockers they come out in all black now i don't know if they still play but they used to play uh 2001 space odyssey yeah 2000 the year we make contact. So the crowd would really get into a frenzy. And so it was a great atmosphere. I'm sure, I mean, just watching it on television, having been there a lot of times, obviously I was there when they played the University of
Starting point is 00:05:56 Clemson and played some other big games, but man. Ocho, when I look at these teams, Ocho, I ain't really impressed. I mean, Georgia, you know, teams, Ocho, I ain't really impressed. I mean, Georgia, you know, Georgia went to Alabama and got beat. They could have easily lost to maybe Kentucky. They played down for three and a half quarters to Florida.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I mean, I look at Indiana. Indiana's 9-0 hadn't trailed. Well, they trailed today for the first time, but then scored 47 unanswered points to blow out Michigan State. Are you overly impressed with anybody? I ain't overly impressed with none of them. Honestly,
Starting point is 00:06:29 you know what this tells me? Basically, that the NIL deals has basically evened the playing field for everybody's goddamn team. If you look at South Carolina, right? They lost to Alabama Yes, lastly. They lost to LSU towards the end of the game.
Starting point is 00:06:46 So you look at them playing against Texas A&M, the game today, them getting blown out by 24, it doesn't surprise me because some of the games you're losing is damn near at the end of the game. Well, one or two or three plays would have made the difference where you probably could have won
Starting point is 00:07:01 and your record wouldn't reflect basically what it is now. So beating the number 10 team, to me, it really doesn't mean much because I think the playing field has even across the board outside of maybe Oregon, who was there and they're somewhat, somewhat dominated a little bit. Outside of that, it ain't no Alabama just dominating the entirety of the season.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Georgia doesn't look like the Georgia of last year or the year before when they dominated the season. That quarterback, Ocho, this is back-to-back games. He's thrown three picks and they still won. So it shows you the level of talent that they actually have on that team that they can overcome those types of mistakes. And I think the quarterback play on some of the teams that we're used to seeing that are really good,
Starting point is 00:07:43 the quarterback play isn't good, huh? The quarterback play is not good. Outside of Shador Sanders, Cam Ward, and maybe two others. Right. I think they like that guy. A lot of people like the kid at Ole Miss, Jackson Dart. Oh, yeah. He's nice, boy. He threw for 515
Starting point is 00:07:59 and six touchdowns today. Yeah. What's the receiver name? Watkins. He's rated real high too, though, Joe. He's rated, he might be the number one or number two receiver
Starting point is 00:08:10 on people's board. That's nice. Eight for 250, that's video game numbers, man. It is. And five TDs. I mean,
Starting point is 00:08:20 the most I've had in the game is I've had four TDs one time in college, but they ain't never had five. But that's a lot, boy. That's a, that's a lot. Excuse me. And averaging
Starting point is 00:08:31 what? 30 yards, he's averaging damn near, what, 30 yards a catch, Chocho? Basically, he was out there playing 7-0-7. You're right. That's 7-0-7 numbers. Yeah, but when you look at the quarterbacks that they i think that they had rated fairly high right you had beck and you had some of these other guys and
Starting point is 00:08:51 when you look at it now you hear them talking more about your door excuse me curing errors yours was another guy that they had rated very high oh joe but now you hear it's your door now you hear uh a cam war um now yeah and Now, yeah, it's guys like that. And Jackson Dart, I think he was up there, but he's getting played now. I think you look at his odds going into that game for the Heisman, and then you look at what they are coming out of that game. So clearly he moved the needle with that performance that he had today. Right now, I still think Travis Hunter is the favorite.
Starting point is 00:09:26 For the simple fact Boise State Genting. He's going he's got yards. He's getting 31 carries. I think he had a buck 47. I think he had like 30 carries last year. Last week, I think he had
Starting point is 00:09:42 like 150 something, but he's not doing that 250, the 208, you know, the things like that. I felt that in order for him to win the Heisman, he was probably going to have to go for somewhere between 23 and 2,500 yards. Because we've seen guys get 2,000
Starting point is 00:09:58 yards. That's a whole hump. And he's got the quarterbacks and the quarterbacks. I mean, Cam Ward has, what, 29 touchdowns? But what Trav is doing and the level at which he's executing, he could be a guy that ends up having over 1,000 yards. I don't know how many catches he has. Can you look that up and see how many catches he has?
Starting point is 00:10:20 But he's going to go over 1,000 yards. Here's a guy that might have three, four touchdowns, seven, eight pass breakups. A couple interceptions. Yeah. It's going to be hard to overlook that, Ocho. It's just so hard because he's playing both at an extremely high level. When we look at it, Charles Wilson did it.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Champ did it. Charles Wilson did it Champ did it Miles Jack did it but we thought of those guys as more offensive I mean a defensive player I'm not so sure that people don't think that Trav is more of an offensive player because he's so
Starting point is 00:11:00 dynamic and those guys they had packages. They didn't play every snap. He's playing every damn snap. You know what scares me a little bit? You know, when it comes to Travis Hunter or even Shador
Starting point is 00:11:14 being mentioned and taken seriously about being able to win the Heisman, it's about all the people that aren't fond of Deion. All the people that aren't fond of Prime and the success that he's having, I hope it doesn't affect those that are doing the voting
Starting point is 00:11:30 when it comes to the Heisman race. It just doesn't sit right with me. Shador hasn't been in the talks about the Heisman race for what, to me, for what it seemed like for a very long time. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I agree. I don't hear his name come up anymore. They talk about everybody else outside of Shador. Obviously Travis Hunter is doing what he's doing and that's a goddamn no-brainer. The fact that Shador's name isn't being brought up
Starting point is 00:11:55 in talks and it's not on charges, it's not on graphs. It's weird to me and I just hope that people's personal issue with Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes doesn't affect the players that are playing well yeah I agree but I think Shador
Starting point is 00:12:11 is having an unbelievable season I mean what is he I think he has 21 touchdowns six interceptions he's still completing what 70 you know 70 plus percent of his passes which is really really good he just so happened to be playing on a team with a guy that's playing both sides of the
Starting point is 00:12:27 football. He's playing both of those at an extremely high level. It happens. It's kind of like you have two basketball players, and they're both really good, but one is just having a crazy, crazy season. We've seen that happen before, but
Starting point is 00:12:44 the University of South Carolina take down the number 10 Texas A&M Aggies by the score of 44-20. And the game, I mean, look, Carolina opened up 14 with a 14-0 lead. Texas A&M scratched to get their way back in. They ended up taking a lead like 20-17. Then Carolina kicks a long field goal at the half, going 20-0. And then from that point on, I mean, go ahead and tie a score like 20-17. Then Carolina kicks a long field goal at the half, going 20-0. And then from that point on, I mean, go ahead and tie a score, 20-20.
Starting point is 00:13:09 And from that moment on, South Carolina took off and didn't look back. It was a good game. I enjoyed it. Very good. I enjoyed it outside until South Carolina ran away with the goddamn game. It was good good the number four
Starting point is 00:13:27 ohio state buckeyes take go in to happy valley take down the number three penn state knitting the lines by the score of 20 to 13 the netting the lines have come up short against the buckeyes for the eighth consecutive time ocho after failing to score on four plays right on the goal line with roughly five minutes to go. James Franklin is now 1-10 against Ohio State. He's also 1-14 against top five opponents.
Starting point is 00:13:56 He's 3-18 against top 10 opponents. He's 13-27 against top 25 opponents since taking over in the Happy Valley in 2014. Following the loss, a Nittany Lion fan had some words for Franklin as he walked off the field. Franklin stared at the fan, who continued to help him and asked, What's your name?
Starting point is 00:14:18 If you're going to be man enough to talk, what's your name? The fan then just walked away. You have to understand coach franklin you you do this every year right you get the people in happy valley you get the alum you get them so excited because you start out undefeated you start doing i mean beating people down and then every time you face Ohio State, this is what happens. So you could understand the frustration that the alumni and the student body and the people in that area, they're frustrated. They're upset.
Starting point is 00:14:55 I mean, they also have to understand they also plan against Ohio State. You haven't beat Ohio State in a very long time. That's the problem. Yeah, I mean, that is the problem. Listen, again, if Ohio State, to me, when I look at what they have offensively, the receivers, Jeremiah Smith and those young bulls they got, if the quarterback play was better,
Starting point is 00:15:19 this game shouldn't have been 20-13. There's no way in hell this game should have been 20-13. The quarterback play in collegiate football right now is abysmal outside of maybe three players. Outside of three players. You put Cam Ward in that Ohio State offense, what do you think it looked like? You put goddamn Shadur Sanders in that Ohio State offense, what the hell do you think it looked like?
Starting point is 00:15:44 Mm-hmm. No, you don't want to put him in the offense. You just need Shador to have that offensive line at Ohio State. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he got skill players. He got them out there. They got some skill players, Ochoa. Now, I don't know about the tight end,
Starting point is 00:15:58 but they got some receivers. But it just, man. It wasn't, listen, Ohio State won, but it wasn't impressive no but see I think the thing is what people are frustrated by is that we see this every year from Penn State
Starting point is 00:16:15 and it's like bro can you win one game that you're not supposed to because what's happening is that they wanted to win one game that he's not supposed to win. And he keeps losing games where he's favored to win. It doesn't matter if it's in Ohio State. It doesn't matter if it's at Penn State.
Starting point is 00:16:36 You keep losing to the same team. Why? What is it about that team that's so hard for you to overcome? Because there have been times – look, I don't know if he's ever had the most talent because it's hard for me to see a scenario where Penn State has more overall talent, offense, defense, special teams, than Penn State. Yeah. Ohio State's loaded.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Every year they're going to, because they got a $20 million NIL budget. So they're going to be able to get for the most part. Now, you know, there's some teams, you know, a Georgia or an Alabama,
Starting point is 00:17:15 some teams that can match an offer, say six, seven, $800,000, Ocho. Certain teams can match that. Okay, you lose out to that player. But they're not a whole lot
Starting point is 00:17:23 of teams outside of Alabama, outside whole lot of teams outside of Alabama, outside of Georgia, outside of a handful of teams that have that kind of NIL budget that you're going to lose a four or five star or a transfer that you really want.
Starting point is 00:17:37 You're going to normally get that guy. I think, and Jay Franklin said, hey, he knows expectations come along with this job you gotta have it because for the last Ohio State and Michigan has been running away with the big team
Starting point is 00:17:56 over the last what because Michigan won it back to back and then Ohio State had run it for like 4 or 5 years in a row. So Penn State, hey, they got to do it better. He's got to find a way because at some point
Starting point is 00:18:11 in time, they're going to be like, bro, what are we paying you the big bucks for? You got to win that game. You're paying them the big bucks, but you only do so much. It's all based on the personnel you have on the field. If the other team has better personnel than you, there's really nothing you can do. There's only so much but you can only do so much. It's all based on the personnel you have on the field. If the other team has better personnel than you, there's really nothing you can do.
Starting point is 00:18:28 There's only so much coaching you can do as a head coach. There's only so much you can do when the players on the opposing side of the team are a tad bit better. They ain't that much goddamn better. Just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:18:38 But that's where coaching come in. Think about how many times Georgia had more talent and Nick Saban beat Georgia in the SEC championship, in the national championship. You see what coaching, the big difference that coaching make? Hey, I have a question, huh? Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:55 At what point was Georgia talent better than Alabama if not equal? Oh, Georgia. Oh, oh, that year that Alabama beat them in the national championship game? You don't think they were equal? I mean, not national championship game. No, no, no, no. In the SEC championship game. And then Alabama came back and beat them in the national championship game.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Because remember, Metchie got hurt in the SEC championship game. And then Jamison Williams went down in the national championship game. And so they were basically down to their third, fourth, and fifth receiver, as opposed to their first two receivers. Did you remember that defense that they had? The top draft picks that they had? They had five guys
Starting point is 00:19:38 going to, I think four or five guys that go in the first round on the defense side of football. Two D tackles, yeah. Yes. And you had N'Kobe Dean and you had nicole b dean you had uh uh sinee yeah sinee i think that's how you c-i-n-e i don't know if it's sinee uh but anyway he went in the first round so there have been times uh uh i'm not so sure maybe even an ncc the national championship game where two came off the bench game where Tua came off the bench. Right. Remember when Tua came off the bench and he threw that ball to Devontae Smith
Starting point is 00:20:08 and won in a sudden death. But he's going to have to find a way to win this game. I mean, you can't keep going to your chancellor or your president or whoever, whatever they call him. And like, hey, we're so close. Yeah. Because that alumni and those boosters, they're going to get restless.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Listen, if the boosters get restless, tell them to open up their pocket a little bit more. You open up that NIL fund a little bit more, then you get some of those players, you know, maybe they won't go to Georgia.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Maybe they won't go to Alabama. Maybe they come to Penn State. Maybe they come to Happy Valley. You know, it's a difference. You want to compete, you got to pay. Let me tell you what's going to happen. They're going to open that wallet
Starting point is 00:20:47 a little bit more and get another coach. That's where they're going to open that wallet. But listen, getting another coach doesn't fix the issue because it's going to be
Starting point is 00:20:53 the same goddamn result. It's going to be the same result. In order to compete now at the collegiate level, you got to pay. You got to pay to pay. Hey, it's like, it's like being in a relationship.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Some people like to say, some people like to say, it's about love. Nothing in life is free. Everything is transactional. It has to come at a price. Everything comes at a cost. If you're trying to win at the college level,
Starting point is 00:21:18 you got to pay something. Ain't shit in life. Yeah. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary.
Starting point is 00:21:37 We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the
Starting point is 00:22:18 most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask Attorney General... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn.
Starting point is 00:23:00 In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. to hear the whole story listen to fiasco iran contra on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts i can't say that i disagree with you oh yeahcho. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Ocho, there was a lot of events happening today. The first one, Joella Embiid has been accused of shoving a reporter in the aftermath of a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Right, right, right. Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Keith Pompey tweeted, Oh boy, people will remember the sixth season for all the wrong reasons. The team just dropped a one in four and Joel Embiid assaulted a reporter in the locker room. Then Shams reported Embiid got into an altercation with a columnist following tonight's game in Philadelphia. Embiid took issue with a recent column that referenced his late brother and son, and Embiid shoved the columnist. No punch was thrown.
Starting point is 00:24:29 This is the reporter Marcus Hayes wrote last week. Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as a major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says he wants to be a great and leave a legacy for uh the boy named after his little brother who tragically dies in an automobile accident when mb was the first year with the six well in order to be a great at your job you first have to show up for work mb has been a great at just the opposite now in his 11th season he has consistently been been in poor condition. This poor condition apparently seems to have delayed his debut
Starting point is 00:25:07 this season. Embiid won't play in Wednesday's night opener or the next two games. So he's upset about what the columnist wrote? Yes. Can I ask you a question? I think he said whatever you do, don't keep my dead brother's name and my son's name out of your mouth.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Are reporters or columnists allowed to talk about family and bring up things that have nothing to do with the game of basketball? How about just stick the basketball and talking about the player itself? Nothing else outside of the game of basketball. It should be off limits. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hold on. He said he wanted to... Hold on.
Starting point is 00:25:58 He wants to leave a legacy for the board. Hold on. All the reporter is trying to provide context. He says he wants to leave a legacy for his son, who he named after his brother. That's all he's saying. His brother tragically died
Starting point is 00:26:13 Joel Embiid's first year in Philly. Am I missing something, Chad? Okay, I see what you're saying, but is that even necessary? I have a question. Is it necessary to provide content? Ocho, there's a reason why you have reporters
Starting point is 00:26:29 because it's about stories. It's about, that's why you have people that comment on the game. They're not just saying X's and O's. It's a storyline. Sports is about stories. Okay. I understand.
Starting point is 00:26:40 He didn't disparage his brother. He didn't disparage his son. He said, Joel said, I want to leave a legacy. Okay. The legacy is when people think of Joel Embiid, he named his son after his brother. I don't. I kind of see it.
Starting point is 00:26:58 I kind of understand it. Depending on the individual, depending on who you are. Listen, you can get your point across without bringing up the legacy part. He, Joel, brought it up. Oh, I'm talking about during the interview? Joel and B consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as a major inflection point in his basketball career. He often says that he wants to be great, to leave a legacy for the boy he named after his little brother who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year with the Sixers.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Now, what you talk about is what he said past tense in general. There's no need to bring that up based on what's going on in the present about him not playing and not being healthy to play. So what's he supposed to report about? Report about him not being in shape, not being able to play. So what's he supposed to report about? Report about him not being in shape, not being able to play the goddamn... He did! He said... Okay, he's saying the man says he wants to leave a legacy, but him not being there.
Starting point is 00:27:56 He said the reason why he... All he did was provide context. The reason why Joel Embiid named his son Arthur, he named his son after his little brother, tragically died. So he's providing context for why Joel said it's so important for him to leave a legacy. And he wants to be remembered by something. And why he named his son after his brother.
Starting point is 00:28:19 I don't think. You don't think that's a little insensitive, though? Because if it's not insensitive, then there would be no reason for Joel to get mad so obviously he doesn't have a way about it I took it I don't take it as being insensitive that's Joel how he took it but I think the
Starting point is 00:28:36 thing is is that him talking about in order to be great at your job you first have to show up for work Joel Embiid has just been the opposite. Now in his 11th season, he has consistently been in poor condition. The poor conditioning seems to have delayed his debut this season. And he won't play in Wednesday's opener.
Starting point is 00:28:58 So there lies the crux. Right. Okay, you say you want to be great at your job, but at first you got to show up for work which Joel Embiid has injuries what he missed his first year he's had back he's had knee he's had
Starting point is 00:29:13 ankle he's had feet problems he's been had tummy issues so what he's wanted to do yes you're funny y'all so i just i just like i said i like him right um i can't tell somebody yes sir how they should react right in that moment right um i i think the thing is for me being in the media and having a little better understanding on this side,
Starting point is 00:29:47 because a lot of times, Ocho, we say things and we think it's innocent. And to us, it is. But to the individual. Yeah, but I think it had more. I think it has more to do with the criticism about Joel and be constantly missing games. Joel and be constantly being out of shape. I think that rubbed Joel Embiid the wrong way. He can't rub him the wrong way. He's been playing 11 years and he's missed multiple
Starting point is 00:30:12 games throughout the tenure of his entire career. Think about how many years he would have played if he hadn't been hurt. He's missing half a season. He's missing entire seasons. See, that's the whole point. So it can't be the criticism. That's not the point. it can't be the criticism that's not the point no the point is for you to play not for you to miss games he can't help it i'm just
Starting point is 00:30:30 saying he can't help it it's a big man man he's a that's a big man you you said if he bigger than we were talking about is he bigger than shack i don't know no no no no no no no no not like that not like that how how tall didn't is him be 71 72 yeah they're about the same height god damn we about 300 oh he ain't no bout man you see how big he is from from waist down so so he is about 300 oh he over 300 that's a whole lot of weight so we talk about injuries and him missing time but no but see you see, you applaud him for eating McDonald's. You applaud him for that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:10 Oh, my bad. Because, yes, you. Because when I said he's getting massages and he's getting work done, getting treatment, eating McDonald's. But see, you don't want to talk about that, the injuries. And all he does is eat McDonald's. And he has yet to really play a full season. But you eat McDonald's. Keep on. You you've done it this far so how about this how about change that diet
Starting point is 00:31:30 and you think if he changes that he won't get hurt no no no i'm asking you that's your level of expertise i don't know that's just that's just one play everybody else is like 99 oh no it's just one that's not what you said that's not what you what you said when people change their diet and start eating healthy. That's what I'm talking about. That's not what you said. This is a different type of individual with a different type of body type. So it might not work for somebody. Derrick Henry, you healthy?
Starting point is 00:31:54 Hold on, listen to me now. It might not work for somebody of that size. That is a large human being. You know, I think that's for people six feet and under. There's a six three and under. Now, once you get... What about Der $15, you got to change the diet. Do you hear about Derrick Henry? No gluten, no fried food, no dairy, nothing processed.
Starting point is 00:32:13 How that working out for you, my mojo? For who? Derrick Henry. King Henry. I don't know how it's working for him. It's working good, ain't it? I'm asking you. He says he doesn't eat processed food.
Starting point is 00:32:28 He doesn't eat fried food. He doesn't eat anything with gluten. He doesn't eat anything with dairy. I'm asking you. You know what? I don't believe him. How about that? What dairy can we from?
Starting point is 00:32:40 Derek, he's from Florida. He's from the Korea? Yeah, he's from like a Jacksonville area you dead ass man that nigga lying man I ain't listening to him man stop lying man nah
Starting point is 00:32:54 I mean I think I mean I think the thing is Ocho when you take that think about it Derek Henry had almost 1400 carries in high school. Topped on with another 600 in college. Topped on with
Starting point is 00:33:12 another 2,000 in the NFL. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if he's eating fast food. Listen, he might not be eating fast food, but everything listen. Listen, he might not be eating fast food, but everything he ran off and might have said for media-wise,
Starting point is 00:33:30 for good context, but look what I'm eating, which is why I'm playing football, I ain't believing that shit. I can tell you that. Yeah, but I think, no, no, no, I totally can believe it because I was like that during the season. I didn't eat anything fast food. I stuck to the Tupperware, and then I had a situation where maybe like for like two weeks three weeks in the off season i would eat whatever i want not every single day right but if there's a couple of
Starting point is 00:33:54 days i wanted to go to the houston which was one of my which is my one of my favorite restaurants i would go there and get the chicken back then used to have chicken tenders they don't have them anymore or i'll get the burger that's still my staple now. But for the most part, for me, it was in my mind because I felt once I altered my diet,
Starting point is 00:34:12 I felt I played better. And so now, my brain has convinced me that I played better on this. You know what that's called? That's called mind-fucking yourself. You mind-fucking yourself and feeling like
Starting point is 00:34:23 what you're consuming is improving your plate when that really had nothing to do with it. The same way you mind-fucking yourself. You mind-fuck yourself and feeling like what you're consuming is improving your plate. The same way you mind-fuck yourself and say McDonald's don't mess up your plate. You see how you mind-fuck yourself? No, no, no. Listen, listen, listen. Stay with me now. There's a certain skill set that you've honed and perfected
Starting point is 00:34:38 when you started at Savannah State until you got to the NFL, when you was with Denver. You worked on that craft and you perfected it to a point to where you became Hall of Famer. What you put in your body ain't changing none of that.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Yes, it will. No, it won't. Yes, it will. God damn it, it won't. I promise you. So you didn't improve. You didn't do anything different. You ran the same. You did the same drills in high school and college that you ran, that you got. You did. So you didn't improve. You didn't do anything different. You ran the same.
Starting point is 00:35:05 You did the same drills in high school and college that you ran, that you got to the NFL. You changed absolutely nothing. No, but you have to understand. No, no, no. Hold on. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. So from high school, you changed absolutely nothing.
Starting point is 00:35:18 You did the exact same thing in high school, college and the NFL. As far as as far as routine when it comes to training? Did you change anything from high school, college, to the NFL? Yes. Why? Because you had already honed your craft over years and years and years. So why would you change?
Starting point is 00:35:37 Hold on. Stay with me now. I'm talking about my training regimen. I'm not talking about what I consume. So why would you change anything? That's my point. Oh, because it worked for me. I see what you're saying. Okay. I'm with you about what I consume. So why would you change anything? That's my point. Okay. It worked for me. I see what you're saying. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:48 I'm with you a little bit. I'm with you a little bit. I'm with you. Talk to me now. Come on. So, but what I'm, what I'm saying to Ojo is that if you know better,
Starting point is 00:35:59 you do better. And I'm not, because a lot of times, a lot of people, you're right. People get like, okay, you're right. People get. Like, OK. Trial, I'll do this.
Starting point is 00:36:09 I've been doing that. And when they try something else, look at Michael Jordan. When he he he changed when he got with Tim Grover. Kobe, that's why guys went to that weight. And so now you see a lot of guys. They have their physio, what they didn't have in college, what they didn't have as high school players, because they say, you know what? I need to be better. So I know better. I can do better.
Starting point is 00:36:34 The way guys eat. I mean, some guys look, I'm not saying you have to be as as strict as LeBron or somebody like that or Tom Brady. Tom, Tom is that his way? Yeah, he had the time. Brady. Tom is way over here. Yeah, he at the top. You way over there. And there's some people that's kind of like in the middle. And some people that lean a little bit more towards Tom. There's some people that lean a little bit more to you.
Starting point is 00:36:56 But my thing is, Ocho, is that I was willing to try and to see. Like you said, your mind, you convinced yourself that McDonald's had no negative benefit. I had convinced myself that eating correctly in a healthy lifestyle gave me great benefit. It's still the mind that I've convinced myself to this, this body that my play would be improved. If I ate a certain way, you convince your play would not be changed.
Starting point is 00:37:26 If you ate this. You see? Like you said, but it's the mind. This is what I don't like. Most of the time you put out these for context purposes, I'm playing as good as I am
Starting point is 00:37:38 based on what I consume and eat. Then I had believing that, well, if I eat this way, then I'm going to be great as well. When it has nothing to do with what you put putting your body, it's all about skill. No, you still got to work. You still got to work. But then you got to know what you're working on.
Starting point is 00:37:50 You can't just be out there doing shit just to do it and think all of a sudden, well, I'm going to look like goddamn Derrick Henry because this is what he eats and this is what he does. That's not the way it works. No. No, because you're not going to be, first of all, you're not going to be able to work like that. You got to factor that in. You're not going to be able to work like that. You got to factor that in. You're not going to be able to work like that. And plus your body type. See, Joel Embiid can't eat fast food.
Starting point is 00:38:10 He's already 300. And you think he eat it for real, though? Ocho, he's on the table. Yes, that's what he eats. You have to understand, after the game. You might have saw it one time, but does he really do it all the time? I think maybe he's one time, but does he really do it all the time? I think maybe he saw it one time. Everybody
Starting point is 00:38:27 said this. If Joel Embiid took his nutrition serious, the same thing, what do they say about Zion? He needs to take his nutrition serious because, like you said, nightly bases, up and down that court, a man 300 plus pounds, up, down, up, down,
Starting point is 00:38:44 up, down, 82 games a year and sometimes those games are back to back you play on a tuesday you play on a wednesday that's a lot of pounding so and you know when you were there after the game on the road ain't nothing in the box is nutritious it's sandwiches it's fried chicken it's honey buns it's potato chips you look you and i've been in locker rooms in nfl locker room for over a decade both of us we know what's on the training table so now think about a basketball player they get they pick up after the game they grab their workout they pick up box. They on to the next city, Ocho. At least we going home.
Starting point is 00:39:29 You get to the next city. You hungry. What you think? You think they ordering grilled chicken? You think they ordering rice and veggies? Or they getting a pizza? Or they getting wings? Now, as you can see,
Starting point is 00:39:42 we start to creep up. Because you got to remember ocho in the off season that's when you work your hardest you putting into two hours three hours a day of training now what happens if you get nicked and you can't train and you can't play. What happens then, Ocho? If you eating not sustainable, not a healthy lifestyle, the weight does go. Because you know it's going to get cold in most places. Cincinnati,
Starting point is 00:40:16 it got cold. Denver, Baltimore, it got cold. So you don't sweat as much. You don't sweat as much and you still eat the same. What happened, Ocho? Hey, listen, Marvin Lewis fined me, but I got the damn near 235 when it got cold.
Starting point is 00:40:32 I got fined a lot. I'm Michael Kasson, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary.
Starting point is 00:40:50 We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology,
Starting point is 00:41:23 entertainment, and sports collide, and hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second.
Starting point is 00:42:06 I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So for me, I mean, my weight, I was the same. I weighted, you know, for the most part of my career, I was somewhere between 25 and 28. Oh, we're about the same.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Okay. Okay. And then, you know, Coming to the season, I always had a weight. My report weight was 232. My first weigh-in was 228. I maintained 228 to 225 the whole year. I know it fell off during training camp.
Starting point is 00:43:16 All that running. Yeah, but see, the thing was, I would lose... I would weigh in at 32. Weigh out of practice at like 25. I lose an average of seven pounds of practice. I knew it.
Starting point is 00:43:30 Yeah. Now, one practice I lost like 12 pounds. And then I had to get five bags of IV fluid. Yeah, to replenishment. And that was the thing because, you know, hey, we ran. Yeah. It wasn't no you catch a pass and you finish five yards. You catch a pass in the West Coast, you go in 40.
Starting point is 00:43:51 I don't care if you catch a shallow cross. I don't care if you catch a stick route. I don't care if you catch a slant because Mike was way down there and you had to run past Mike. Make it a habit. Make it a habit. Yeah, man. Hey, Jerry started that bull jive.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Well, it wasn't bull jive, but Jerry was the one that started what they call finishing. And so now that was the expectation of anybody in that West Coast offense. Now, I think some teams have kind of like backed off that a little bit, but Mike Shanahan damn sure didn't back off that because he had three years with Jerry. And when he came back, he brought that with us. And so that was the biggest thing, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:44:25 because I knew it was going to get cold. And so my training, my eating had to be up to par because the last thing I wanted to do is to get nicked and not be able to train. But I hope, look, I think it's frustrating, Ocho, because, look, nobody likes being talked about unless it's good. And right now, Joel, look, because think about frustrating, Ocho. Because, look, nobody likes being talked about. Yeah. Unless it's good. And right now, Joel, look, because think about it, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:44:51 He was hurt into the playoffs, remember? He played in Paris. And now, they're like, hold on. You was healthy enough to play in Paris. He didn't play as many minutes now. He played. He played. How many minutes have he played for the Sixers?
Starting point is 00:45:05 None yet. Now, which one paid, which one paid and he just signed an extension three years, a hundred million on top of the,
Starting point is 00:45:13 so he's about to make 210, about 250 million over the next five years. Mm-hmm. And the fans like, hold on, bro.
Starting point is 00:45:22 Yeah. What's really good? You know what else can be frustrating? is the fact that he's getting hurt. And I'm sure he wants to play. So he's frustrated with that. And then having to hear from the media and the pundits about him not being able to play. Well, here you think I want to be goddamn hurt. You think I want all these issues that I've had with my body failing me?
Starting point is 00:45:43 Absolutely. Well, how about this here? There's a simple saying. Do what you've always done, you get what you've always got. So what is he doing that continues to get him what he's always got, Nocho? And you know, when I think of NBA players, I think of them having all the resources because they have the money to do so and doing everything they can to prepare themselves to play getting in shape
Starting point is 00:46:06 whether it's stretching they have they have the best of everything so i'm sure and bead takes those necessary steps to be able to be able to be ready to play you know preparing for training camp whatnot and he just hasn't been able to to work for him which is why he's missing the first game and probably the next two games after that but Oh no, he done missed more than the first game. The start of the season was way, way back. I would have been my daughter with the start of the season game. That was like what, two weeks ago? The NBA season is
Starting point is 00:46:33 two weeks old now, isn't it? Yo, it's two weeks old. But I think that's the thing, Ocho. Ocho. I can't fault you, Ocho, if you don't know better and you don't do better. It's when you know better
Starting point is 00:46:49 and choose not to do better. He knows. Like you said, he has the resources. I just, and look, it's frustrating. Look, you've never been injured. I've been injured.
Starting point is 00:47:03 I've had injuries in my ankle, and I thought the ankle was going to force me into early retirement. Right. Because at some point in time, the doctors say, well, Shannon, we just can't keep shooting your ankles up
Starting point is 00:47:14 so you can play. You're going to have to, at some point in time, you're going to have to get this ankle healthy. Or you're going to probably, yeah. Because they're going to be, there are long term effect. Man, I ain't got what I would. I'll tell you what the long term effect is.
Starting point is 00:47:31 My grandmother been poor and going to the outhouse and going out to the wood for 40, 50 years. That's the long term effect. And to have my family living like they live. That's the long term. That's the trauma that I grew up with. So I worry about the amputation at a later date and time. In the meantime, will you stop talking me to death? So I could go out there and drop the bombs on the charges, the chief,
Starting point is 00:47:58 the Raiders or whoever the hell we damn. Man, I ain't trying to hear y'all. I ain't lying on Joe, but look, I look, I enjoy what I get it, bro. I ain't trying to hear all this. I ain't lying, Ocho. But look, and Joel, I get it, bro. I get it that you're frustrated because there's no question, Ocho. When he's at his best,
Starting point is 00:48:13 you're not finding two, three players better than Joel Embiid because he can give you 50 and give you 20 rebounds and block your five shots and have your three steals on the other end. He plays both ends of the court. I get that. And it's frustrating because for the most part, he's never had an entire season
Starting point is 00:48:35 where he's been like, I'm healthy. I'm healthy. He hasn't had that. I got a question. Yes. How has Jokic been able to do it? I'm healthy he hasn't had bad I got a question yes how has Jokic been able to do it oh
Starting point is 00:48:49 he has a totally different body he's not as tall huh he's not as tall but he's not as heavy hey he look he look like
Starting point is 00:48:59 lethargic and he just look like he does he just look like he's just there he doesn't if you look at the type of game that he does he just looked like he's just there he he doesn't if you look at the type of game that he plays he doesn't play an explosive game joe allen b got quick twitch
Starting point is 00:49:10 yeah yeah yeah he has quick twitch fibers for a man that size same thing with zion zion has quick twitch that's why he can leave the floor so quick but that's also just imagine you taking an 18 wheeler getting it up to 50 miles an hour, and just slamming on the brakes. And then get it up to 50 miles an hour and slamming on the brakes. Now, you take that with a sedan or an SUV. You see the difference? That's the difference between Joel Embiid, Zion Williamson's body, and some of these other guys.
Starting point is 00:49:41 That's why Kareem was able to play so long. You see the way Kareem built? Kareem, 7'2". But's why Kareem was able to play so long. You see the way Kareem built? Kareem, 7'2". But look at Kareem. He probably only like 20, maybe 10 pounds heavier than what he was when he played. But Kareem was yoga. He watched what he ate.
Starting point is 00:49:59 But I just think that's the thing. That's what you have to do. Especially if you're one of those ginormous 7'3". Ocho, if you're one of those ginormous 7 foot 300 plus. Ocho, if you're 7 foot 300 pounds at 20, 21, what you think you're going to be at 30? What you think you're going to be at 40
Starting point is 00:50:13 if you don't watch your eating? Because you definitely can't eat the same if you're not doing the same activities. That's why we see so many. Man, I see some DBs. I'm like, bro, were you a D-Live? A whole line? Ain't no way you play DB looking like this.
Starting point is 00:50:29 You see a mocho. You see some of them guys that weigh 180, 190 and now they're 245, 260. Because you kept the same eating habits with not the same training schedule. Right.
Starting point is 00:50:44 When you leave the game, you either got to work out harder or eat less or both. Those are your only options. But I hope, hopefully, I mean, because earlier it was reported that he punched a reporter. Either way, there's probably going to be
Starting point is 00:51:01 some disciplinary action. Right. Adam Silver's probably going to come down because he doesn't want this, because that's what punishment is about. Right. Punishment is not only for the offender. Right. It's also to deter others from doing such acts. I have a question, though. Yes.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Is there any type of discipline for the reporter based on what he wrote? Or are you sticking with understanding on what he said for are you sticking with no understanding on what he what he said for content no no there's not I don't believe there's going to be any any like I said how he handled it I probably wouldn't handle like that but I'm not in that situation exactly do
Starting point is 00:51:38 I believe do I believe there will be discipline for the reporter I do not okay I do not okay also we had another incident though Joe video has for the reporter. I do not. I do not. Okay. Also, we had another incident, though, Joe. Video has emerged this morning showing Jason Kelsey walking near Penn State Beaver Stadium and getting approached
Starting point is 00:51:53 by a college student shouting his name and asking for a fist bump. Excuse me. One person can be heard heckling Kelsey using a derogatory language about his brother Travis and girlfriend Taylor Swift. Hey Kelsey, how does it feel that your brother is a
Starting point is 00:52:09 you know, the gay slur for dating Taylor Swift? The person yelled. Jason was not having any of it as he turned, stopped, turned around, grabbed the person's phone and slammed it to the ground. As Jason goes to pick the phone up, the guy shoves it.
Starting point is 00:52:25 And Jason hands the phone back to him and says, who's the F now? Retired to the person. Fight back, Jason. Don't do that. Don't put your phone in people's faces. Give people space. Show
Starting point is 00:52:41 respect. It's okay if the guy don't want to fist bump you guys. It's respect. It's okay if the guy don't want to fist bump you guys. It's okay. It's not the end of the world. I saw the video. He got the phone all out, all in the man's space.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Man, y'all need to... Come on. See, I used to say we're better than this, but we're not. No, no. Because after a certain point in time, this is who
Starting point is 00:53:05 we are right right this is who this is what we've become as a society because because what the internet is the internet has done is made so many people famous and so many people want their 10 15 minutes of fame that they're willing to cross lines in order to achieve it. Yeah. But sometimes you can make the wrong play on the wrong day. Yeah. Depending on who it is. Leave people alone. I look, I get it.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Ocho, sometimes when we do our jobs, we have to talk about people. Right. And we have to talk about the football. And like, we talked about the Tom Brady situation and his wife, they're moved on.
Starting point is 00:53:45 They're going their separate ways and X, Y, and Z. But I'm just trying to figure out. Travis Kelsey dating Taylor Swift, that impacts this gentleman's life. And why would you say, why would you call that man out of his, say his brother out of his name? So how do you think the man was going to respond? Why? I mean, why would you do that?
Starting point is 00:54:04 You went there with the person to try to get a reaction out of kelsey yeah out of jason why though why why i mean you gotta think these he's a college kids though so you already know how they are they're not thinking straight they're not thinking they're saying the first thing come to mind you know so the college kids are they gonna be adults at some point yeah but come on think about what you did in college now you know you was wild, man. Yeah, but I ain't called nobody. But Ocho, because like I said, look, I'm big on respect. I ain't going to nobody's face being disrespectful.
Starting point is 00:54:35 And if I don't like somebody, I'm not talking to them. That's you. You have to understand the world we're in today. You have to understand these kids in the area. You just said it yourself. Pension, media, going viral internet how can i make a name for myself i mean just just all that stuff tied in today and you know kids don't know how to act and you know this is this there of cell phones and recording every goddamn they do everything it is we've gotten to the point we put everything on the internet we put what we we're eating, what we're wearing, and
Starting point is 00:55:06 X, Y, and Z. It's just gotten to the point, man. Gotta tweet everything, you know? I just don't know. I just wish Jason wouldn't have yelled those words back to him. Just kept it moving.
Starting point is 00:55:24 He did what he did, but just kept it moving. Just grabbed him. He did what he did, but just keep it moving. Don't, don't, don't lower yourself to the level. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:35 I just, I just, I just hated that. Some people go out, go out of their way, trying to get a celebrity or an entertainer or somebody famous to get a reaction out of them. I hate that.
Starting point is 00:55:45 That's where we are right now. Oh, I, I, I, if it's somebody that I don't like, I don't follow them. If there's something come up on my feed,
Starting point is 00:55:54 I scroll right past it. I don't listen to their music. I don't watch their films. Okay. I don't, we don't jive. We don't get along. I don't kind of like what you stand for.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Okay. Ain't no harm, no foul. And I'm definitely not going to seek that person out to try to start a confrontation or try to get out there somehow. I just, you know, you just avoid the situation, but I just don't get mad people now. Damn. And I got what I said before we started. This is who we are now.
Starting point is 00:56:22 Cause you know, you remember say, are we really that bad? Are we really like this? At some point in time, you got to come to conclusions. this is who we are now. Because you know, Ocho, you remember saying, are we really that bad? Are we really like this? At some point in time, you got to come to the conclusion, this is who we are. This is what we've become as a society. Hey, I remember you. I remember you got mad with the dude in the airport when you had a bear.
Starting point is 00:56:38 Yeah, with the dog. Yes, yes, yes. He wanted his, because I still don't know how, you know, like I said. That was funny. He must have been expecting somebody else was there. Cause nobody knew I was there that day because normally I get a service to take me. I drove myself. Right. So nobody cares. And sometimes they'll, Hey,
Starting point is 00:56:59 I'm picking up Shannon sharp or somebody or a restaurant say, Oh, reservations, Shannon sharp, Ocho Cinco made reservations. And the proper Rossi will show up. Sometimes or somebody, a restaurant, say, oh, reservation Shannon Sharp, Ocho Cinco made reservations and the proper Rossi will show up. Sometimes they have, you know, assistance that'll alert the proper Rossi so they can get pictures. So I was very cautious that day
Starting point is 00:57:17 to make sure that I drove myself. And normally when I go to the airport or even anything in that I have someone I have someone to drive for me but I was cautious that day and I noticed him earlier oh right but I said well you know what nah nah nah and the thing was is that like I said the lady had come because she had to pick the dog up right from one country she had to fly from one that's right go to another country to get the dog, bring the dog
Starting point is 00:57:45 back to me. She was only going to be in the airport for like 10 hours because the next flight was going to leave. So my thing is, I'm giving this lady a lot of money. I need to make sure she gets back through security. So I was like, ma'am, do you mind if we do the
Starting point is 00:58:01 transaction over there? And she's like, sure, no problem because at first i didn't see her because she had she had teddy in a in a carrier right so i didn't i'm looking i'm like and i called shelly shelly i don't see this lady shelly get on the phone call the lady she said well she's standing x y so forth so on she got on this she got on this i turn around i see i got right and i'm like but he look he wanted reaction i mean i gave him i mean i guess he wanted me to shove him or something i gave him what he looked for he got his little you know um he got his moment of fame but i mean to call somebody brother name derogatory what what come on bro come on you in college you gotta start leg dropping these fools
Starting point is 00:58:44 man well that's what happened i mean people people get really disrespectful um because they ain't come on, bro. Come on. You in college. You got to start leg dropping these fools, man. Well, that's what happened. I mean, people get really disrespectful because they ain't never been slapped before. So, you know. You got to make an example. Yeah, man. I just... Why you think I stay in the house, Ocho? People like me, no. Because I just...
Starting point is 00:59:00 I just want to be... Hey, you know, I get from point A to point B. I'm walking. That's it? Oh, yeah. Because Jordan, you know, Jordan, he worked for whatever airline we flying on. Because he got to get everybody they bagged. Me and Ashton got up to fly.
Starting point is 00:59:19 I'm like, hey, what the F is Jordan? I said, don't worry about it. You can wait. I'm gone. You're out of there. He's getting everybody bagged. You need your bag, man? Here you go.
Starting point is 00:59:30 Sir, you need your bag? Which one is yours? Jordan! You do not work for this airline. Being a good Samaritan, man. Being a good Samaritan. So now, you know Jordan and I fly? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:46 We get two bowls of transportation. Oh, so you leaving. He can stay there and do all that. Yeah, he do all that. I'm gone. Right. I'm gone. That's funny. You not be there. I'll be out here taking 700 pictures and
Starting point is 01:00:02 50 autographs because while you passing out baggage. I said, did they at least tip you? Right. You should have some extra money. But I feel, look, Kelce, I mean, you're in a different spot now. You never kind of had this kind of attention. I understand, you know, hey, he was an outstanding center for the Eagles,
Starting point is 01:00:24 but TV fame is different than sports fame. It's different. It's a whole different ballgame. Oh, yeah. for the Eagles, but TV fame is different than sports fame. It's a whole different ballgame. Oh, yeah. Especially, now I'm not obviously a LeBron or a Tom Brady, something like that, but for an offensive lineman to get this kind of level of fame? Because the only time his name got mentioned was when he held. He had to do something bad for them to talk about Jason Kelsey.
Starting point is 01:00:46 Now, he's on ESPN. He has a great pod with his brother. Yeah, he's in commercials. So, yeah, like I said, the only thing I just hate, I just hate that he uttered the word back what the gentleman said.
Starting point is 01:01:01 Yeah, that's it. If he gave him a quick elbow to the throat. That'd be fine. That'd be like free Jason Kelsey. That'd be fine. He'd be all right, though. He'd be all right.
