This episode of Nightcap is brought to you by Coligard, a non-invasive colon cancer screening test.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Did you know colon cancer is considered one of the most preventable yet least prevented cancers? When caught in the early stages, colon cancer has a survival rate of 90%. So screening and early detections are key to reducing overall colon cancer deaths. That's why the American Cancer Society recommends that if you're at average risk, you begin screening for colon cancer at age 45. And a convenient way to do that is with Cologuard tests. The Cologuard test allows you to be in control of your colon cancer screening through prescription-based tests delivered to your door with none of the prep that's required for colonoscopy. No liquid prep, no days off, no invasive procedures. Plus, Cologuard test is
Starting point is 00:04:22 affordable. Most insured patients pay $0 and a follow-up colonoscopy is needed after a positive Cologuard test. This is usually covered by insurance also. So, if you're 45 years of older and at average risk, you can ask your healthcare provider about screening for colon cancer with the Cologuard test. You can also request a Cologuard prescription today at Cologuard.com slash podcast. The Cologuard test is intended to screen adults 45 and older at average risk for colorectal cancer. Do not use Cologuard test if you have had adenomas, have inflammatory
Starting point is 00:04:53 bowel disease, and certain hereditary syndromes or personal or family history of colorectal cancer. The Cologuard test is not a replacement for colonoscopies. High-risk patients' Cologuard test in adults 45 to 49 is estimated based on a large clinical study of patients 50 and older. False positives and false negatives can occur.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Colodart is available by prescription only. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for joining us for another episode of NICAP brought to you by Boost Mobile. Starting point is 00:05:42 Thank you guys for joining us as we watch the Lakers take down the Clippers again 108 to 102 and with that victory tonight and the loss by the Nuggets earlier today the Lakers are now percentage points in the number two spot yeah you heard me the Lakers are the number two seed in the West, as we currently sit today. Please make sure you hit that subscribe button. Please make sure you hit that like button and go subscribe to the Nightcap podcast feed wherever you get your podcasts from. Thank you guys for your continued support. We know we're a little late tonight, but we wanted to follow the Lakers game
Starting point is 00:06:21 because we thought this would be a very interesting game. And if they were to win, it would have implications and they did win. And now they're the number two seed in the West. Make sure you check out shade by LaPorte. We do have it in stock. If you can't find it in a city or state near you, order it.
Starting point is 00:06:38 We'll ship it directly to your door. Please drink responsibly and stay safe. Check out my media company on all of his platforms. That's Shea Shea Media and my clothing company, 84, with 84 being spelled out. We just dropped our Super Bowl shirts, hats, their bundle. There it is right there. The link is pinned at the top of the chat. Supplies are limited, and once they're gone, they're gone.
Starting point is 00:07:02 The Lakers beat the Clippers for the second time in three days, 108-102 to win for the 16th time in 19 games. At 38-21, the Lakers moved past the Nuggets for the number two seed in the Western Conference. Since turning 40 years old, LeBron James has the
Starting point is 00:07:20 fourth highest three-point percentage in the entire NBA. He didn't have a good night tonight. He struggled a little bit tonight, especially with turnovers. But Luka was sensational. Finney Smith played outstanding defense. Dalton Kinnick came off the bench with five of eight from three. He had 19 points, and they win again.
Starting point is 00:07:39 The Lakers are looking really good, Ocho. Hold on. Now, when you say the Lakers are looking really good, now when I asked you earlier, when we talked about Luka coming to the Lakers, you said they didn't have enough pieces to make it out the West. Now you're saying the Lakers look good. Are you saying they look good
Starting point is 00:07:53 with a chance that they can contend or do they just look good to finish off the season strong? They're going to make the playoffs, but when you get into the playoffs, you condense your bench. You're going to only end playoffs. But when you get into the playoffs, you condense your bench. You're going to only end up playing about eight guys. Tonight, they played what?
Starting point is 00:08:10 They played nine guys. So you're going to be very, very limited. And you see, they only have really Jackson Hayes, the big, Jemison, the third, got in a little foul trouble, not really sure what he's supposed to do. The question is, when they match up a team that has a big, you know, OKC, I don't really fear OKC. I know Shea is sensational.
Starting point is 00:08:34 They got two all-stars with Jalen Williams and Shea Gilgames. They're going to do what they do. But the problem that they're going to have is that what Luka did to him last year. Right. And Luka got a better running mate or comparable running mate and LeBron did what he had with Kyrie. Now, what they were able to do last year was throw all those
Starting point is 00:08:51 bigs at him. They had Likely. They had Daniel Gafford. So it's going to be very interesting. And we know what the nuggets are. They got Nikola Jokic and you got to be able to neutralize him. Now, they did an unbelievable job the last time they played him. They swarmed him.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Some guys struggled. Luka and LeBron were sensational, and they ended up winning that game. But a lot goes into it to make it out because you got to win, you got to win, what, 12 games to make it out of the West. Do I like their chances? The matchups. It's all about matchups, what you get here. Now, hopefully
Starting point is 00:09:28 they don't get the Nuggets in the first round and build some momentum and then maybe meet them in the second round or the Western Conference Finals. But I like the way the Lakers are playing. I would have wished they had gotten a big. But you got what you got right now. There are no more bigs available. You can't go to Walmart.
Starting point is 00:09:44 You can't go to Kroger or the one off Amazon. You got what you got right now. There are no more bigs available. You can't go to Walmart. You can't go to Kroger or the one off Amazon. You got what you got. But I like the way the Lakers are playing. They're playing really good defensively. They're getting after people. They just got to stop turning the ball over. They had 16 turnovers.
Starting point is 00:10:02 LeBron and Luka had 14. LeBron had 8. Luka had 6. They could have blown this game open in the first quarter. But it was the turnovers. LeBron and Luka had 14. LeBron had eight. Luka had six. They could have blown this game open in the first quarter. But it was the turnovers that kept the Clippers attached to them to clean that up. But I think J.J. will take it. They're playing really good basketball right now, Ocho. Minus the turnover, they're shooting the three-ball well.
Starting point is 00:10:21 They could shoot free throws a little better. They were 14 and 20 tonight. High percentage from the field. They were almost 50% from the field. You could live with that. Offensive rebound, they were on the glass.
Starting point is 00:10:32 They out-rebounded this team. It's another good thing, too, I like about the Lakers. Obviously, the acquisition of getting Luka. So when LeBron has a night like tonight where he's not on, then obviously,
Starting point is 00:10:44 you're not going to have a night where both Luka and LeBron aren't night like tonight where he's not on, then obviously you're not going to have a night where both Luka and LeBron aren't on. And Luka takes the brunt of the weight. Yes. 29 points for 29-9-6. Yep. Shot 5-12. He's getting better from the 3.
Starting point is 00:11:01 9-17 from the field. Didn't shoot the free throw. Missed three free throws. So how long has it been back since he's been back from injury? What's it about? It's probably about 11 or 12 games that he's been back. 11 or 12 games? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I mean, that's enough time to get back in the rhythm. That's enough time to get back in the rhythm. He's getting there. He's getting his legs back on him. He's getting his conditioning back on him. You get in shape by playing. Whatever sport that is, you get in shape playing. He's getting his legs back on him. He's getting his conditioning back on him. You get in shape by playing. Whatever sport that is, you get in shape playing. That's the only way to get in shape, too.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Yeah, I like the, you know, I like the, you know, getting on the cardio and doing all that other stuff. But you don't play football, basketball, or a particular sport on a bike unless you're in the tour. And even in the tour, the crimes, they have to get out there and they have to put their road work in. They have to put those miles in when they go into the Abdulwez and all that.
Starting point is 00:11:51 The Champs-Élysées. The Champs-Élysées. That's the finishing stages. But I like what I see with the Lakers. I really do. J.J. Redick is doing an unbelievable job, he's definitely in the running for coach of the year if he doesn't get Kenny Atkinson
Starting point is 00:12:11 what he's doing with Cleveland is unbelievable but I don't think anybody thought J.J. would have this team where they are right now 38-21 the number two seed in the Western Conference playing really, really good basketball they're defending at a high level. Their offense is really fluid,
Starting point is 00:12:28 except when they turn a damn ball over. But they're getting up threes. They're shooting a good percentage from the three-point line. Well, almost 43%, well, 43% tonight, 18 of 42. Had some really good looks that didn't go down. LeBron didn't shoot the three ball over the last couple of games. He's been shooting the three ball really well. But tonight he struggled with the three ball.
Starting point is 00:12:49 But that's what you got. You got a guy in Luka that if LeBron's off, Luka can carry the load. If Luka's off, LeBron can carry the load. But you're going to need these contributors, Dory and Fannie Smith. I really like when Vanderbilt came and gave us off the bench. He didn't shoot the three ball well, but he defended at a high level, got it on the glass. He had but he defended at a high level, got it on the glass.
Starting point is 00:13:09 He had, what, five offensive rebounds, nine total rebounds, one assist, two blocks. I like what I got from him. I love what I got from Don Connect. Even Shaq Milton came in and gave us a couple of big minutes. So you can't really complain. You got almost 40 points from your bench tonight. You can live with that. You can live with 40, almost 40 points from your bench tonight. You can live with that. You can live with that.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Getting 40 points from your bench, knowing that you're going to get somewhere around, what, 45, 50 from LeBron on a nightly basis? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:36 And then your other starters chip in. And remember, you're playing without two starters. No Austin Reed, no Rui. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:43 How long before Reed's come back? We don't know he's dealing with a calf injury, so they say it's day by day. It could be three or four days. It could be two or three weeks. You don't know. That's them soft tissue injuries, boy. Dangerous, boy. It is.
Starting point is 00:13:58 It is. Dangerous. I know I like what I'm seeing. I wonder what they're saying now, because there's a lot of people talking. Hey, people talking I'll see you tomorrow Windhorse Hey Stephen A get at your boy we're going to talk because y'all have a whole lot to talk about oh the Lakers can't do nothing
Starting point is 00:14:13 what happened now you know what they're going to tell you they're going to tell you it was one game that's what they're going to say they're going to tell you it was one game and then they're going to flip things to, well, if it was a seven-game series,
Starting point is 00:14:27 this and this and this and that, this is what would happen. But you notice, when the Lakers win, it's one game. If the Lakers lose, they just lost the series.
Starting point is 00:14:38 I'm like, wait a minute. I thought it was one game. Oh, they can't beat the Clippers. The Clippers, oh, really? Now LeBron got somebody to go ride shotgun with him. Boom.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Now look at him. What now? I'm feeling good. I don't know. Might have to bring the goat mask out or something. You going to bring it out? Might. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Ash got it. What you do with my mask? Fuck off. Maybe. Ash got it. What'd you do with my mask? Ash, Ash supposedly had my, she was supposed to order a new one. This is the best time
Starting point is 00:15:19 to order them. It ain't Halloween. No, he got horns horns I made the crown The crown I go Yeah I go I go to Party City Oh is Party City still
Starting point is 00:15:33 Damn I can't go there Yeah Party City gone now Oh I go what you call them I go to uh Hold on What's the other store they got Oh I go to Burger King
Starting point is 00:15:44 And get a crown. They got a crown for the kid. The Burger King got a crown. I go there and get me a crown. But LeBron has been playing unbelievable since. He's averaged at almost 30 points a game, nine and eight since turning 40. He's played extremely well.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I just know this. With Luka taking him off the ball and you have Austin Reeves, who's another ball handler, would I be surprised if LeBron played 24, 25 seasons? Nope. Not now.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Because they're not going to wear him down. They're not going to wear him down. Because Reeves and Luka take so much pressure off him. Listen, it's no different than... I hate to use. I hate to use this example. When you have a quarterback that has to rely on his receivers to do
Starting point is 00:16:30 everything. And all of a sudden you get a running back. All of a sudden you get a running back where all the pressure is taken away from the quarterback. Yep. Same concept. It's the same thing. You mean to tell me I can hand the ball off to Saquon.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Let's say Saquon for, for example. Yeah. Over and over and over. And I don't have to do much because he can take up most of the production. Hey's say Saquon, for example. Yep. Over and over and over and I don't have to do much because he can take up most of the production. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Hey, cool. You mean I don't got to handle the ball, I can give it to Luka or Austin Reed can take it because he can create his own shot? Yep.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Man. And I believe you, actually, with the way LeBron takes care of his body, the way he takes care of his body, he can't play another four.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Hell, maybe five. He might want to stretch it the same way Tom Brady did. I'm Michael Kasson, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there's so many stories out there. And if you can find a way
Starting point is 00:17:45 to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No.
Starting point is 00:18:35 It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask Attorney General. I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated
Starting point is 00:18:56 the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles,
Starting point is 00:19:52 things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know.
Starting point is 00:20:23 As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. I can see him playing 25 seasons. I really can. Because the way he's averaging 25, 9, and 8 right now.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Or 25, 8, and 7. Right. I mean, think about it. I mean, he's playing at an all-NBA level. Mm-hmm. I mean, are there 10 players currently playing better than LeBron? I mean, you take Shea, you take Giannis, you take Yolk. Then what are we talking here?
Starting point is 00:21:11 Are we sure? Are we sure there are 10 players currently playing? Because there's three all-NBA teams, you know, two defensive and three on the offensive end. Are we sure there are 10 players, let alone 15, that are playing better than LeBron James is right now and for the season? Look at his numbers. Look at his team.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Because before, y'all say he's just putting up numbers in a losing effort. Now look at it. Second in the West. Look at his numbers. 24 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists. Are we sure? Are we sure? Are we sure that there's 10 players currently playing better than LeBron James, let alone 15?
Starting point is 00:21:51 We know they're not 15, but are they 10? They're going to find an argument. Enjoy this. I don't believe you'll ever see a guy play this long and play at this level again. No. It's just, no, I just don't, I just don't.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Now I'm talking about Lakers peaking in March. If they were losing, it's one thing. Let them win. Mm-hmm. I mean, they just got looking for 11 games. They need to get some continuity. Now you got
Starting point is 00:22:30 Reeves out. You got Rui out. It's hard. It's hard to try to, because those are two of your starters. But Finney Smith came in, played extremely well tonight. Gabe Vinson in the starting lineup, played well. Three or six from the three-point line. Got a couple of rebounds.
Starting point is 00:22:48 But I like what I saw from the Lakers tonight. There's nothing to... There's nothing really to be upset about. And what, LeBron James is now, what, one point away
Starting point is 00:22:59 from 50,000 total points? 50,000. 50,000. When you combine playoffs and the postseason. Oh, okay, okay, okay. I'm just going to say he just gave me the 40,000 ball. How the hell did he get the 50 that fast?
Starting point is 00:23:10 Nah, he didn't get the 50 that fast. No, I don't think he... Hopefully you enjoyed it. Hopefully you enjoyed what you got an opportunity to watch and appreciate it. Instead of critiquing and finding out everything because we normally lead with what he doesn't do well well he doesn't do this and he doesn't do that and he doesn't do that instead of just like you know what appreciate it while it's here i appreciate
Starting point is 00:23:34 what you got oh sure robert or spoke about lebron earlier today and said if lebron got the same calls this year he would average 30 points a game and it'd be no question MVP because he's so much better physically stronger. Lee you make a vital mistake if you gave that to someone other than him as of right now. Look they've been stopped because what they do Ocho is they say
Starting point is 00:23:57 it's the same thing they did with Shaq. How do you officiate? He's so big. That's not what Dr. James Naismith when he instituted he didn't say if a guy is bigger than the opponents, you don't call fouls. If they foul him, they fouled him. Call him. Most definitely.
Starting point is 00:24:13 But they do take that into account. They just do. It's not fair, obviously. And Robert already is right. If they gave LeBron the call that they give SGA, he would average 30. He would. But again, they take in account that LeBron is so much physically bigger than most,
Starting point is 00:24:34 especially those that's having to guard him. I get it in a sense, and it's not fair, but I totally understand where they're coming from when they do do that. Remember what they used to do with Cam Newton too? Remember? Sometimes some of those
Starting point is 00:24:49 calls, and now that's a blatant, blatant foul. But because it's Cam Newton, because he's bigger, more imposing, never got him. Yeah, now in the pocket, I agree with you. But once you put that ball up under your
Starting point is 00:25:05 arm yeah you better tee off on him because ocho if the if the coach the head coach and the offensive coordinator is not going to protect that guy why should i ah okay okay when you say it when you put it like that i got you hey you're running them on quarterback power. You're pulling two guards and a fullback and running your quarterback on a power. And you suppose the fact I'm supposed to lay him down? No, I'm going to lay him out if I get a clean shot on him. Right. But
Starting point is 00:25:35 I don't believe, and even LeBron, when he was at his peak and getting calls, he didn't go to the line like Shea. Shea go to the line 21 times a night. LeBron would have had 70 points if they would call fouls like James Harden used to go to the line you remember James Harden
Starting point is 00:25:52 had that straight chat I know y'all know what he's talking about when James Harden was going to the line a night like 15 times a night Shea's going to the line like 13 to 16 times a night LeBron didn't let LeBron going to the line like 13 to 16 times a night. Man, they didn't let LeBron go to the foul line
Starting point is 00:26:07 that many times. Man, please. Hey, Shea, Shea aggressive. Shea is very aggressive too. Like he's going, he's literally going to the hoop. That when, when James Harden had that stretch,
Starting point is 00:26:18 he was literally taking people out no matter what. You know where I'm going, you're going to have to stop it. Even Yannis, can you imagine? Can you imagine where I'm going, you're going to have to stop it. Even Giannis, can you imagine? Can you imagine when LeBron, man,
Starting point is 00:26:29 what you think LeBron used to do? He used to live with the pain. Hey, Giannis, Giannis' move worked, man. He'd do the same two moves every goddamn time. In the Eurostamp experience? Yeah! And they work every time. Yep.
Starting point is 00:26:47 He's, he's going to have to, like, the thing is is that hopefully he's working on a country because he's not going to
Starting point is 00:26:54 always be this athletic. You see what LeBron did. LeBron developed that three-point shot. Mm-hmm. You got to improve on all the facets of your game
Starting point is 00:27:03 when you're athletic. Because the athleticism, he's supremely athletic now. Mm-hmm. You got to improve on all the facets of your game with your athleticism. Because the athleticism, he's supremely athletic now. Mm-hmm. But LeBron and the Lakers are playing well. Luka, LeBron, his last MVP season, he was like 30, if I'm not mistaken. It was 2013.
Starting point is 00:27:22 It was 2013. Mm-hmm. Because, yeah, that was the second of the back-to-backs. He was averaging 26.8. So he's averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists. He shot a 56, 41, 75. Right now, since turning 40, he's 26.4, 8 rebounds, eight assists, 55, 44, 76. So he's shooting better from the three, better from the free throw line, averaging more rebounds, more assists, and basically damn near the same amount.
Starting point is 00:27:54 One percentage, he's 56. Field goal percentage, 55 right now. He's playing unbelievable. He does a great job of taking care of himself. It's really important to him. His wife allows him to do it. She ain't in his ear chirping about you need to come home.
Starting point is 00:28:08 How much longer are you going to play? You know, obviously, you have to have someone really, really supportive to play this length of time. Anytime you see someone play this length of time,
Starting point is 00:28:20 their partner, significant other, whoever it is, that person is in their life, Ocho, you have to sign on for that you have to
Starting point is 00:28:26 I mean go ahead that's so that's so important I don't think a lot of people understand what it what it takes
Starting point is 00:28:33 especially to to play as long to to achieve that type of greatness you know and obviously having someone by your side
Starting point is 00:28:39 with great understanding and having that same vision that you do that same vision of success not just success short term but long-term success uh on the field and off the field so so commendable commendable you know to be to be able to find that because everybody's not able to everybody's not long it's hard boy it is especially before you make it we ain't talking about before you made it i'm talking about before you make it yeah you have to before you make it we ain't talking about
Starting point is 00:29:05 before you made it I'm talking about before you make it yeah you have to have somebody had to understand Ocho okay this is what I'm trying
Starting point is 00:29:12 to accomplish I need you to hold because you got I mean you can't have chaos in your personal life and think it's going to be serenity on the court Ocho you got to have
Starting point is 00:29:22 peace at home in order for you to have peace on the court say say't you? You've got to have peace at home in order for you to have peace on the court. Say what you just said again. Say what you just said again for the people in the chat. Even if you don't play a sport. If you don't play a sport. Let's say your 9 to 5 job.
Starting point is 00:29:37 You've got to have peace at home. You can't have chaos at home. You can't. And that's just on a smaller scale. Sometimes they can't And that's just on a smaller scale. Especially. Sometimes they can't even get it right on a smaller scale.
Starting point is 00:29:49 And we talk about wanting to do great things like the example you're talking about. If you can't do it on a small scale, how are you going to do it on a grander scale?
Starting point is 00:29:58 Yeah. Because the thing is that an athlete's mind is his greatest muscle, is his greatest strength. And it needs to be free. You can't be thinking about having an argument with a significant other he can't think about something that's going on out the field and for the most part the really great ones compartmentalize but even if you're trying to compartmentalize on a few occasions you know maybe death in the family or something like that. But to try to compartmentalize
Starting point is 00:30:26 every game for a year or for years? Nah. It ain't happening. It's really not. You really need peace. And, you know, Savannah made it abundantly clear.
Starting point is 00:30:39 She wanted to be a wife. She wanted to be a housewife. She wanted to take care of the home, take care of the kids, do what you need to do on the court. And, you know, that's what you need. You see, he got... LeBron got married early on.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Locked it down. And people got mad at me when I said, I think the face of the league probably needs to be kind of locked down. If you go back and look at it, guys that have been the face of the league, have they been single? Steph Curry was married. Kobe Bryant.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Kobe got married. You got to realize Kobe got married early. Kobe wasn't the face of the league. Kobe got married early. Kobe wasn't the face of the league. Kobe got married early. LeBron got married. Steph Curry is married. Jordan is married. Magic and Michael.
Starting point is 00:31:34 I mean, Magic and Larry. So you go back, Dr. J. Hey, you think that's a prerequisite? It's not a prerequisite, but what did people get so mad about Tiger about? Tiger got married, became the face of golf, and then when he did what he did, people got upset. Why? Because he was supposed to be the all-American guy. He was supposed to be a family. House, picket fence, 2.5 kids.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Okay, 2.5. I didn't even have 2.5. That's what they say the average family have. 2.5 kids. I like that. And they, you know what I'm saying? That's just the way it is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I mean, listen. Look at the quarterbacks. Been the face of the league. Look at the quarterbacks. Name a single quarterback that's been the face of the league. Always, always, always. I just want to know. Tell me, chat.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Tell me the quarterback that's been the face of the league and he's been single. I'll wait. We go back. We can go. How far you want to go back? You want to go back to Johnny Unitas. How far you want to go back? You want to go back to Johnny Unitas? How far you want to go back? You want to go back to
Starting point is 00:32:51 Mark Starr? You want to go to Roger Starback? You want to go to Montana? Elway? Marino? Who you want to go to? Brady? Manning? I'm just trying to figure out. You want to throw Breeze in there? Who you want to go to? You want to go Mahomes? I'm just trying to figure out you want to throw Breeze in there? Who you want to go to? Hey. You want to go Mahomes?
Starting point is 00:33:06 I'm just trying to figure out where you want to go with it. It must be in the rule book or something. It must be somewhere in the rule book. You know, in order for you
Starting point is 00:33:16 to have that greatness, you got to have that, you know what, right inside. You got to have that It's tough. Now, they're outliers. You're right.
Starting point is 00:33:25 It seems like it's the standard for a reason. Look how far you just went back. And what does everybody have in common? What is the common denominator? A man who finds a good wife finds it's a good thing. You know? Maybe in the last 50 years, the only guy that you could say was a face of the NFL and wasn't married was probably Rodgers. Aaron?
Starting point is 00:33:49 Yeah. But he always had a spouse on his side. Without the ring, it was always somebody. I mean, he had Danica Patrick. He had Shalane Woodley. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And then he had Olivia Munn.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Aaron had a nice little lineup now. Yeah. But I think the thing is, like, the NBA, when you go back and study the NBA, when the NBA, the guys that have been the face of the league in my lifetime. And, you know, I'm just going to go back to Dr. J and come forward. They've all they've all had. They've all been grounded. They've all with, you know, people like that's a family man.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Yeah. It is what it is. Funny how that works huh it is oh joe lebron started a bit of a discourse on friday when he spoke about aunt not striving to be the face of the league let's take a listen to what goat james had to say i don't know why do you want to be the face of the league when all the all the people that you know that cover our game and talk about our game on a day-to-day basis shit on everybody. That responsibility, that's just weird. It's weird energy. I like that.
Starting point is 00:35:14 I like it. I like it. But again, are you able to be the face of the league and deal with the scrutiny that comes with on the other side of the media? Can you not care? The word I like to use, and you use this time, can you compartmentalize and separate the two? Still go out there and do what you need to do, despite knowing with being the face of the league,
Starting point is 00:35:35 you got to be on 24-7. Are you going to be on 24-7? Absolutely not. You're going to have your nights. You're going to have your nights. You're going to have your nights you off. You're going to have your nights. You want your highs to be, you want the percentage of your highs you're going to have your nights you're off you're going to have your nights you want your highs your highs to be
Starting point is 00:35:46 you want the percentage of your highs to be much better than your lows yeah for sure who wants to deal with that though you think about it LeBron LeBron is the right person to be able to talk about it
Starting point is 00:35:56 because he's going to have pressure because he came out of high school yes he's going to have to deal with it times 10 more than anybody I could think of because of the expectations coming out of high school. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:36:10 The thing is, Ocho, is that, look, that's not something a player says, I want to be the face. We get to determine that. The media get to determine the face of the NBA. The fans get to determine the face of the NBA, not said player. That's not something.
Starting point is 00:36:23 LeBron didn't say, I'm the face of the NBA. That's not with Magic. That's not with Jordan. That's not with Bird. That's not something. LeBron didn't say I'm the face of the NBA. That's not what Magic, that's not what Jordan, that's not what Bird, that's not what Kobe, that's not what Steph did. It's sustained excellence for a period of time
Starting point is 00:36:36 and they won. It's a sustained excellence for a period of time and you win. Just because you got a couple of highlights, that don't mean you about to be the face of the league. Nah. And look, I get it.
Starting point is 00:36:53 It's like, well, Jason Tatum and Shea, it's just hard for me to see a foreign-born player because this is an American sport. It's just hard for me to see Americans getting behind a non-American athlete saying
Starting point is 00:37:09 you're the fates of our sport but we'll see what happens but when you look at Ja you look at Ant, you look at Tatum and people like I like Jason Tatum but people keep saying well hold on are we sure Jason Tatum is the like Jason Tatum. But people keep saying, well, hold on. Are we sure Jason Tatum
Starting point is 00:37:25 is the best player on his own team? Because all I know, finals MVP went to Jalen Brown. All I know is Eastern Conference finals MVP went to Jalen Brown.
Starting point is 00:37:34 So are we certain? Right. Because it can be no ambiguity. Kobe couldn't come to face in the league as the second best player on his own team.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Shaq had to leave in order for him to be that face right Jordan was the best player on his team Bird was the best player Magic was the best player LeBron is was the best player now it might have taken 22 years for you to say you know what LeBron is the second best player not if he got a guy that's damn near 10 years, well, 14 years younger than he is. Luka just turned 26 the other day. But, I mean, Zion,
Starting point is 00:38:15 Zion's got to win. He's got to be on the court. So the guys that we can say as far as American players, Ja, Ant-Man, Zion, Jason Tatum. We'll see. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything
Starting point is 00:38:49 but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there's so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide, and hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal
Starting point is 00:40:19 that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:40:43 or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and staysbefore-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring
Starting point is 00:41:31 to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. Oh, Joe, he elaborated the next morning. Exactly made my point, made my point.
Starting point is 00:42:17 But anyways, having this converse combo has started it. Ain't no face of the game. Ain't no about one person or one show. It's about a culture of basketball. The beautiful game in the world, The most beautiful game in the world. My game has never been better. Incredible young stars from all over the world and some elder ones. Steph Curry, she'll be all we're
Starting point is 00:42:34 talking about today. True. Man, drop 56. We talked about it, Ocho. Let's discuss how great OKC and the Cavs have been this season with two completely different styles and break down why and how they have. Of course, if players don't perform, we need to discuss that too and break that down.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Even that can't be discussed in a way that's not bringing finality to a player's game, but leave room to see how the player responds and let's watch the journey of that player. This ain't about me either. At this point, I really don't care what y'all said about me.
Starting point is 00:43:10 It's always something. This is about the impact of negativity it's having on our beautiful game and our fans. I know I speak a lot about players. More importantly,
Starting point is 00:43:19 a hell of a lot of great fans and truly love and celebrate the sport around the world. Mind the game. Behind the game. What you thinking, Ocho? Damn. That's it. I'm trying to think
Starting point is 00:43:45 I mean you look at I mean look sports are about stories what's the story I mean Shea I mean we're about to have another foreign born MVP that's what we're about to have another foreign born MVP another one we about to have Shay is from Canada
Starting point is 00:44:08 Yoke is just 1-3 Shay not from the crib Shay is from Canada Shay from Canada Yoke is just 1-3 Yon is 1-2 Joel and B so it's been a while since we had an American born MVP Shea from Canada. Yon is 1-3. Yon is 1-2. Joel Embiid.
Starting point is 00:44:26 So it's been a while since we had an American born MVP. It's been a while. Look, he's right. The Cavs, the Cavs be getting up threes. Donovan Mitchell didn't play tonight, but they had Ty Jerome come in,
Starting point is 00:44:48 played unbelievable. Who else? Somebody else. I was watching the game. I was flipping back and forth. But they had to come from behind because they were down. Damned to the whole game in Portland. And they came back and they ended up winning in overtime. But
Starting point is 00:45:03 they've been really good. And they were down the other night against Boston and found a way to win in Boston. Because Boston has had their number this year, Ocho. Yeah. And as I mentioned earlier, Kenny Atkinson has those guys playing really, really well. I don't think he should have lost his job in Brooklyn.
Starting point is 00:45:21 But hey, they got guys and they wanted to move in a different direction and with that level of talent when your aspirations are championship and you hire a guy like Steve Nash, hey, they did.
Starting point is 00:45:40 But look, if you're the face of anything, too much is given, much is required. You're going to get a lot of benefits as far as advertising dollars. A sponsorship's going to come your way. But you do heavy as the head that wears the crown. And that's one of the pros of it now. Yes.
Starting point is 00:45:58 We're talking about the comp. Yes. DeAndre Hunter, that's the guy. They picked him up from Atlanta I'm surprised but Atlanta's like hey we're not going anywhere
Starting point is 00:46:08 so hey let's let's offload DeAndre Hunter can play he was he still can but he hey he should be
Starting point is 00:46:15 sixth man of the year because he was balling he's averaging 20 off the bench and then people laugh at me when I said I averaged 28
Starting point is 00:46:23 28 12 and 10 off the bench nah you averaged 28, 12, and 10 off the bench. No. You averaged 28 seconds off the bench. No, I'm just saying. You're getting straight the games out of hand. No. Come on.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Absolutely not. If Brother Hunter could do it, what do you think I would do if that was my game? Yeah, Brother Hunter was the most outstanding player in the March Madness. Yeah. That's not you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:55 I was just throwing that out there. Okay. Jamie Foxx defends LeBron's legacy. If he came up with a cure of cancer, they would say, yeah, what about diabetes? 40,000 points. Over 20 years of play,
Starting point is 00:47:09 carrying this bum-ass league on his shoulders, ungrateful. No matter what you do, they'll always find a way to down your greatness. No matter who it is. Nobody, Ocho. I've followed this game for an extended period of time, and I go a ways back.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Nobody in the history of sports, other than Muhammad Ali, when he did what he did, ever caught the vitriol that this man did. Nobody. Go back and look it up. Nobody has. Nobody. Go back and look it up. Nobody has. Nobody. The man scores 50. They say, well, Kobe would have got 70. Jordan would have got 80. against that team. Y'all do realize a lot of these teams were in the league when Kobe played. But y'all just go, y'all do realize
Starting point is 00:48:10 Kobe retired, he was 36 and 37? 37? Yeah. Y'all remember what he looked like his last three years? We just gonna forget that. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:48:20 Don't, we gonna just forget that. Don't even worry about it, Ocho. We gonna forget that. Yes, sir. Do y' to forget that. Don't even worry about it, Ocho. We're going to forget that. Yes, sir. Do y'all remember about what Jordan looked like in Washington? Washington? We're just going to get that.
Starting point is 00:48:33 See? Oh, they were just finishing up. Now, if they had won a title, everybody would have spoke about the greatness of those two guys. Now they didn't win a title, didn't come close to winning a title. I heard when LeBron first got to L. didn't come close to winning a title. I heard when LeBron first got to LA, he came to be Michael B. Jordan.
Starting point is 00:48:49 He came to be a movie star. Now, he's been all NBA since he's been here. He's won a title. He's been MVP of the finals, and they still won't give him no credit. I ain't got no problem giving people credit. If you play good, I'm going to say you play good.
Starting point is 00:49:09 If you play bad, I'm going to say that too. Yeah. You always been fair. But that's the luxury. That's the luxury about having your own platform. That's the luxury of being in a situation. Hey, everybody knows how I feel about LeBron, but if he plays bad, I don't have a problem saying that.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Same thing with Mahomes. Same thing with Kelsey. But see, I like it because they say I criticize. When I criticize Josh Allen, they say I'm racist. If I criticize Lamar, they say I don't like Black. So I'm doing a pretty good job, Ocho. So I'm getting on both sides. You know I'm doing it right down the middle there.
Starting point is 00:49:45 You're right. Listen, you're fair. You're fair, and everybody get the same treatment. That's it. Now, I don't hear anybody said when Lamar was coming out, I said, I don't care what they say. Lamar, don't you take your ass to receiver. Don't do no receiver drills.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Don't do no DB drills. You are a quarterback. Go play quarterback. And then if you can't make it as a quarterback, say, you know you are a quarterback go play quarterback and then if you can't make it as a quarterback say you know what I can't play quarterback let me go head on I'll go to wide receiver I'm not running no drills and no wide receiver
Starting point is 00:50:16 because I've been a quarterback even when he struggled I was supportive but if he plays bad and I say well Lamar didn't play well today. He's got to do a better job of taking care of the football. Why you didn't? Bro, so what am I supposed to say?
Starting point is 00:50:33 If Lamar plays bad, I just want y'all to tell me, what am I supposed to say? Because Brady played bad, I said that. When Peyton played bad, I said that. When Romo and Breeze and Dak and whomever else, when they play bad, I said that. When Peyton played bad, I said that. When Romo and Breeze and Dak and whomever else, when they play bad, you looking at it too.
Starting point is 00:50:52 The only difference is I get to tell you since, look, in a situation like this, why would he throw the ball into that coverage when you know it's this coverage and you know you're supposed to go elsewhere with the ball? I ain't got no ask to grind. I ain't jealous of them.
Starting point is 00:51:08 I had an okay career, Ojo. Old seven round draft pick. Made it all the way to the high. Pro bowls, all pros, super bowls, all. So why, I'm just trying to figure out, people say you be jealous. Of what? Y'all make it seem like I was a special teams guy.
Starting point is 00:51:22 I did. I started out on special teams, Ojo. Led the team into tackling. Wish you was on punt return. I was a special teams guy. I did. I started out on special teams, Ocho. Led the team to tackle. Wish you was on punt return. I had something for you too. Who? I bet you can't sit on no branch and turn your head around. You.
Starting point is 00:51:41 You. That's who. When you scared to catch the puns You scared to get back there I ain't even worried about you back there Who? You doing an awful lot of who-ing tonight I do keep forgetting When my rookie year
Starting point is 00:51:55 My rookie My first and second season I was a wedge buster And you keep talking about me being scared You ain't talking about you a wedge buster You ain't no wedge You're too light to be a wedge buster You get your neck broke.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Oh, you do realize. Okay. Listen, I don't want to get off topic, but I was a wedge buster. Ask my teammates. Hey, I'm sure you know some of my teammates as a rookie when I came in, who the wedge buster was. Not you. All right.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Because back then, the wedge was 1,000 pounds. They had three-man wedges. I know how much it was. And000 pounds. They had three-man wedges. I know how much it was. And you ain't hitting no three-man. First of all, you ran into Ray at 245 and collapsed like a deck of cards. Time out. You saw me run into Ray and trip over my shoestrings, but you saw me. No, I didn't see that.
Starting point is 00:52:38 No, I didn't see that. I did not see that. So I can imagine if you chat, y'all think he ran into Ray at 245 and collapsed. You think he's going to run into a thousand pound wedge? You understand physics? The laws of physics? I understand it.
Starting point is 00:52:58 I was a math major. I was an econ major. So I understood what angles I need to take on the wedge to affect what they did regardless of size Ocho you do Ocho you do realize the wedge back then you had I mean it was like D lineman an offensive lineman so you're dealing with 330 340 running I was there you you sitting there telling me like like I was there I'm the one running. I'm the one running into it. What do you mean? Pull the tape. I want to see some tape of you busting the wedge. Sure.
Starting point is 00:53:28 Yeah, sure. You're adding Dick LeBeau. No, I ain't going to ask him. There's tape. Like you tell me. You want to take from when I dropped 52 or when I averaged 30. You want to take. I ain't seen no tape yet.
Starting point is 00:53:39 I want to see tape of you busting the wedge. Now, I can pull some tape of you. I can get some tape of you, me on special teams if you want it. I'm going to have NFL films pull it for you so you can see it. If you... If you want me
Starting point is 00:53:55 to pull some tape of me making tackles on special teams, on kickoff, on punt, I was a gunner. You want to see me make a tackle, I can do that, Ocho. As a matter of fact, ask Adelius Thomas about me. Oh punt I was a gunner You want to see me make a tackle I can do that Ocho Okay I get that As a matter of fact Ask Adelius Thomas about me
Starting point is 00:54:09 Man You weren't First of all You wasn't on no Special team When AD was playing Yeah He was the gunner man
Starting point is 00:54:21 Was you trying to I know he was the gunner Huh I know Fast was the gunner Yes Yes. I know he was the gunner. Huh? I know Fast was the gunner, yes. Yes, and I was on him. I still play special teams even then. So you was a jammer? Yes, in my prime.
Starting point is 00:54:36 I was everywhere. Jimmy Butler has been sued for allegedly failing to pay $260,000 in rent and leaving behind more than $127,000 in damages related to a luxury home he leased in Miami Beach.
Starting point is 00:54:57 In the suit, the plaintiffs contend Butler failed to pay two months of rent at $130,000 per month for the property. Damn. Hold on. Oh, tap me. Come back again.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Hold on. How much? Ocho. $130,000 per month. The lawsuit also alleges that Butler changed the locks and would not give the key to the property owner, keeping maintenance workers from entering the home. Butler also is alleged to have failed to maintain the swimming pool, the air conditioning, and ladder
Starting point is 00:55:31 leading to an extensive mold that require replacement of the ceiling floors on the property. A hundred, hold on, $130,000 a month? I'm trying to think, how much is that? That's like a 25, that's like a $25 million home, hold on. $130,000 a month? I'm trying to think, how much is that? That's like a $25 million home, Mocho.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Oh, listen. Hold on. How much? Hold on. How are you paying $130,000 a month on a $10 million home? A $10 million home only supposed to charge you about $40,000 to $45,000 a month. Listen, the fact that you even know the numbers of how much it should cost, that lets me know I'm out of, y'all, that's out of my range. Y'all out of my range.
Starting point is 00:56:19 I mean, the numbers you're even saying is too much. And I can see it. I got it, but it's not connecting. $130,000 a month? Never. Ever. Ever. I don't care what it is. $10 million home for
Starting point is 00:56:36 what? Because I play in the NBA? Because I make a certain amount of money, that means my lifestyle has to match? I don't know why Jimmy just didn't buy, he didn't, I don't know why Jimmy didn't buy a place because he had been there for a stated period of time. He knows he won't live here.
Starting point is 00:56:52 It's not his home state. Yeah, that's 1.5, that's over 1.5 million. Oh, you know, and 1.5 million. Oh, he doesn't, Ocho, if that's 10 million on the home. That's a drop in the bucket for them dudes. That's a drop in... But that's beside the point. The point is, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:57:10 he's paying that much in rent for a place that he... He's sending somebody... He's paying for somebody else's vacation home. Right. He's paying for somebody else's kids to go to private school and nice college.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Right. 1.5 million on a $10 million home? That's crazy. Damn. That is absolute, that is bonkers. Hey, remember what kind of money
Starting point is 00:57:34 they make, huh? They make FU money. Yes, I get that. But just because you make FU money, I'm trying to let, I'm trying to figure out what financial advisor let him spend $1.5 million on a house that's only valued at 10 million.
Starting point is 00:57:48 That's my point. Damn, if you got it, if you got a financial person, ain't no financial person in their right mind would let their client do that. Yeah, that's, listen. I ain't telling, because, I mean, what do you have a financial advisor for? Now, maybe they did tell him, and he didn't listen, because like you said, he's making that money. Yeah. Me, what's the point of having a financial advisor if I'm not going to take his advice?
Starting point is 00:58:17 And what if the financial advisor didn't even say anything? Because he wants to continue to remain his financial advisor, if you know what I mean. Yeah. Hey, that's good. 138. Oh, man, I'm still trying to wrap my head around that.
Starting point is 00:58:32 Yeah, but every month, you hear me? Boy, stop playing, boy. Jesus. Add it up. That's got to be, that's got to be a third. What's the interest rate?
Starting point is 00:58:44 God. Put it in Google, a 40-mile, got to be, that's got to be a third. What's the interest rate? Put in a Google, if I put $2 million down on a $40 million home, what would be my monthly, what would be my monthly payments? Because, hey, this is freaking me out, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:59:01 Now, just the numbers being that high, the numbers being that high in general, it just doesn't sit right with me. Yeah, you put, no, say you put down 10%. You got to put down 10% of the house, right? Okay, put down $4 million. So that's $30,000. Okay, so how much is the monthly payments? And what's interest? Huh? 220 000 okay okay five percent interest rate
Starting point is 00:59:32 so come down to 20 25 million so for a 25 million dollar home if you put 10 down which is 2.5 million would come to 137 137 000 a month oh so that mean jimmy must have been on star island then i don't know where he was. All I'm saying is with that kind of money that you're paying out monthly, I know. Don't ask me how I know, but I know.
Starting point is 01:00:16 $25 million home. It's only so many $25 million homes. Coral Gables, Star Island. It says in Miami Beach. Yeah, so that's definitely, it gotta be Star Island. That's in Miami Beach. Yeah. So that's definitely, it got to be Star Island. That's the only place and obviously
Starting point is 01:00:28 you're not paying for the house, you're paying for the location. Location. You sit there on the lawn. Real estate, what is real estate, Ocho? Location, location,
Starting point is 01:00:37 location. That's it. That's all it is. That's it. Now you can get the same house that's 25 million in Miami Beach and you can be in Houston
Starting point is 01:00:45 and get it for 5 million. Yes. Boy, do you know how much house you can get in Houston or Vegas or Tennessee? What? Oh, yeah, yeah. Crazy.
Starting point is 01:00:57 Man, you'd have to have, listen, you'd have to have like maid service like they got at a hotel to clean that. To clean that, yeah, yeah, yeah. Most definitely. You're talking about 50,000, hold on.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Holyfield building, Holyfield house, the one Ross got. Yeah. That's 50 plus thousand square feet. He built that for like $10 million. That's it? Yes. It's ginormous. Huge.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Huge. You see how much grass? You got a full baseball field, Olympic sized swimming pool. Huge. You see how much grass? You got a full baseball field, Olympic-sized swimming pool. Different. Yeah, I'm just, $130,000 a month? Mm-hmm. Nah, hell nah.
Starting point is 01:01:37 Nah, I can't do that. Not even if I got the money, Ocho. Yeah. Who you telling? Who you telling? Hey, listen. You talking to the money, Ojo. Yeah. Who are you telling? Who are you telling? You're talking to the choir. You're talking to the gospel. Man, please.
Starting point is 01:01:53 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen.
Starting point is 01:02:37 Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair.
Starting point is 01:03:21 And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 01:03:50 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings
Starting point is 01:04:25 and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered.
Starting point is 01:05:05 As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. Ocho! Gervonnie Tank Davis escaped Barclays Center on Saturday night with a majority draw against Lamar Roach. The 30-year-old Davis, who is undefeated and was a heavy favorite, took a knee in the middle of the ninth round before retreating to his corner and remembered to wipe his face with a towel.
Starting point is 01:05:42 The unusual move, essentially a timeout, should have been assessed a knockdown and Steve Wilson appeared to begin the 10 count. But Willis then can be heard on the broadcast telling Davis, you take a knee like that, it looks like a knockdown. However, the fight continued without Roach being credited with knocking Davis down. Davis said during the post-fight interview in the ring that he got his hair done Thursday
Starting point is 01:06:05 and the grease from the hair was burning his eyes. Hairstylist denies putting a lot of grease on the hair. Especially, I did his hair Wednesday. It's Saturday. He did press, gym, weight. That's not an excuse how much grease did I use. Damn. You're like, uh-uh.
Starting point is 01:06:25 You ain't finna mess up my business. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Listen, you got to be careful with that answer because obviously, because she's the one that does this here, her clientele is shot up because she's the one that does this here. Now, you come out and say something like that,
Starting point is 01:06:38 you're the reason why. Now, that's going to mess our business up. So she got to come out and defend herself absolutely right away. She has to. Now, obviously, watching the fight, watching the punch, I don't think, I think he surprised him. I think he surprised him with the punch and hit him in the wrong spot,
Starting point is 01:06:55 the wrong place, and he caught him by surprise, and he called him to go down. I'm just saying, honestly. Who, Roach? Yeah, Roach caught him by surprise. I didn't see, I didn't think he got hit. You don't think so? He got hit?
Starting point is 01:07:09 I don't think so. But regardless, when you take a knee, if you go back and look at when Floyd Mayweather fought Cruz, I think, what was it, 2001? And he hit him on the button and he hurt his hand and he took a knee? Yeah. And he started, he's like, no, I just, and he started to count the 10 count. Yeah his hand and he took a knee. Yeah. And he started, he's like, no, I just.
Starting point is 01:07:25 And he started to count. Yeah, you can't take a knee. Yeah. So if they give, if they, if they take, if they give him that point, he wins the fight. Yeah. He wins the fight. Hey, hey, listen, them boys were going at it, bro. Them boys were going at it.
Starting point is 01:07:43 I think that there was, there was, it I think there was a part that I really enjoyed. Obviously, you know, boxing is about, you know, moving around. And there was a point where Tank and Roach decided, you know what? We tied right now. We finna sit here in the pocket. And we finna bang. Man. I mean, just exchange.
Starting point is 01:08:02 Boy, them boys were throwing, boy. Roach didn't back down. At all. At all. And did you see the size difference in the ring? Obviously, Roach being the bigger man. Roach came up. Roach normally fights at 130.
Starting point is 01:08:16 He came up to 135. What? Damn, what? They look huge in the ring. Yeah. Either way. Listen, they got a rematch. They got a rematch.
Starting point is 01:08:28 That fight was good. And obviously, a lot of people, I've seen a lot of boxers come out and say, you know, Tank lost that fight. I think the fight was good. I think when I looked at the scorecard, I think maybe going into round seven, maybe seven or eight, maybe seven, I think Tank was up on the scorecard. For that matter. But Lamont Roach, he had always been good. He had always been good. And he had the right style.
Starting point is 01:08:53 The styles make fights. And Lamont Roach's style made that fight what it is. Yeah. He made it what it is. And he made no mistakes, too, all night. Yeah. I mean look Tank Tank hit it with a good couple of good shots
Starting point is 01:09:09 but really didn't move couple of clean ones yeah but he didn't move hey and he started countering yeah Tank would catch him he would counter him right back
Starting point is 01:09:17 right back right back and you know the straight right through the guard through a a southpaw cause that's what Tank is a southpaw fighter yeah hey that Tank is, a southpaw fighter.
Starting point is 01:09:26 Hey, that jab, he kept him up off him. He didn't back down. And you know normally Tank starts slow, comes on. Rose said, I'm here to stay. He said, I'm here for a long time and a good time. I ain't going nowhere. I'm not sure what kind of
Starting point is 01:09:42 conditioning Lamar Rose did, but whatever it is, I salute him. Because everyone else at some point past round seven, you know, normally when fighting tank, they die down. Yeah. They die down. Their volume of punching decreases. You know, everybody gets tired after round seven and on,
Starting point is 01:10:00 but his condition was up to par. They went to war all 12 rounds that was a really big me I thought Roach won the fight I did Ocho if they count that knockdown yes
Starting point is 01:10:18 I thought even without the knockdown I thought he won it I thought he had I mean look I know landed punches, but Roach was the more aggressive fighter. Yeah, I mean, being an aggressive fighter, did you see the scorecard, though? You go to the punchline. Yeah, I saw the scorecard. Yeah, so, I mean, it's tough. It's tough. Listen, a great fight from both fighters. ah it's tough it's tough good listen
Starting point is 01:10:45 a great fight from both fighters now to me fight next I would like to see them rematch at some point
Starting point is 01:10:51 um I'm not sure if that's in in the foreseeable future I mean it should be obviously if it was the draw I would love to see Tank what do the numbers say
Starting point is 01:11:01 the pay-per-view numbers are gonna tell you if people wanna see a rematch cause if they came out and bought the fight yeah they'll get a rematch if they didn't do the numbers say? The pay-per-view numbers are going to tell you if people want to see a rematch. Because if they came out and bought the fight, yeah, they'll get a rematch. If they didn't do the numbers, don't you know? I think he did the numbers. I think he definitely did the numbers. I mean, listen, it's Tank, huh?
Starting point is 01:11:15 He's a draw. He's a draw. They coming to watch. They coming to watch. I mean, listen, I'm excited. I can't wait to see him see him fight Shakur but everybody
Starting point is 01:11:29 had a lot to say Shakur had a lot to say uh uh what's the name uh uh Haney
Starting point is 01:11:35 had a lot to say Bud had a lot to say yeah but I think you do realize Ocho what this does is that it gives fighters like air
Starting point is 01:11:48 because everybody know uh tank got power yeah now they're like okay i want to fight him shakur is like okay let's make this fight happen right he's talking about bud look bud looking at canelo bud ain't looking bud ain't looking to drop no weight. He ain't nobody. The only fight Bud can make is Canelo. Right. Now, that's a big jump to go up three weight classes? Huge jump. That's huge.
Starting point is 01:12:16 I mean, normally somebody go up a weight class, maybe two. Right. Because Roy Jones, yeah. Roy was super middle, but Roy was fighting at, was fighting at, uh, uh. Light heavy. Light heavy. So he would have went from cruiser to, uh, uh, to heavy. Heavy, yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:36 But. That's going to be a good one, though. That's going to be a good, I mean. But I just, I thought Tank, when you got to the middle round, you got to the round like four and five, I'm like, okay, here come Tank. Here come Tank. He steps on the gas after round four.
Starting point is 01:12:54 He normally steps on the gas and comes forward, just in general. But also, you got to understand, at this level of elite boxing like that, you got to be careful, especially when you're exchanging. One shot, boy, you're gone. Yeah. Listen, one shot and you're gone.
Starting point is 01:13:10 So us as fans watching from the outside, looking in, you know, you want them to just get in there and just throw and just... But, hey, it's a chess match, you got to be careful. You make one mistake, you're going to sleep.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Mm-hmm. You're going to sleep. Well, the little guys, what they do is they put... But see, that's... you make one mistake you go into sleep you go into sleep with the little guys what they do is they put but see that's they can put they put punches together
Starting point is 01:13:30 you know as you go up in weight class them the ones that turn the lights out with one fight now still even at the smaller weight class they catch you with a punch
Starting point is 01:13:37 you don't see they can turn your lights out yeah catch you in between punches or it's a wrap yeah they catch you throwing a punch you throwing one
Starting point is 01:13:46 and they get through quick or the one here the quit of the overhand that you don't see until it's too late or the uppercut that you never see
Starting point is 01:13:56 because it's coming from the blind spot blind spot so that's why you know you look at Tyson Tyson was always to the body
Starting point is 01:14:03 and he coming through he comingop. And he coming through. He coming through the guard. He coming through the guard. Tyson going to bang the body. You know it's going to come. You know it's coming. Stop it if you can. But it was a good fight, Ocho.
Starting point is 01:14:17 I don't normally pay for fights, but I said, you know what? Let me see what's really going on. Because I know we're going to talk about it. I want to see Tank. I want to see Roach. Tank bet him a quarter of a mil that he was going to get him out of there. Roach said, no, you won't. So it's going to be interesting to see if they have a rematch.
Starting point is 01:14:39 Yeah, they have to, huh? But look, there's enough fighters in that class. You got Lomachenko. You got Shakur. You got Haney. You You got Lomachenko. You got Shakur. You got Haney. You got Garcia. You got Tank. You got Roach.
Starting point is 01:14:49 Come on, man. Make these damn fights happen. Stop ducking and dodging each other. What the? They got some good ones coming up now. There's a whole card with T.O., T.O., Ryan Garcia, and Devin Haney coming up. Yeah. There's a whole card.
Starting point is 01:15:04 No, they should be fighting each other. See, that's why people don't give the credit because remember back in the 80s when they had the Four Kings? Oh, yeah. Kearns fought Leonard.
Starting point is 01:15:13 He fought Hagler. He fought Duran. Duran fought those guys. And then you've got the Fifth Horseman. You had Iran Barkley. Those guys fight. Go back and look at the 70s and you look at the heavyweights. When you had Norton, you had Frazier, you had Foreman, you had Iran Barkley. Those guys fight. Go back and look at the 70s, and you look at the heavyweights.
Starting point is 01:15:26 When you had Norton, you had Frazier, you had Foreman, you had Ernie Shavers, you had all those guys. They fought. Right. I love Floyd, but I hate what Floyd did to the game of boxing because everybody's trying to protect that oath. Ain't nobody want to take no chances. Because they feel
Starting point is 01:15:48 now if I take a chance, I lose my career. Bro, stop it. Floyd fought everybody. He fought everybody on his terms. This is the point. When you're winning like that, you get to call your shots on your terms.
Starting point is 01:16:02 Everybody ain't going to beat Floyd. Even if you end up undefeated, you're not going to be Floyd. Yeah. That's what they're thinking. I'm trying to think. Then all the fights. Like, all the fights, too. Obviously, you want to see all the fighters fight each other. But also, they have to keep building it up to maximize the person which they can get.
Starting point is 01:16:22 You can't just fight just to fight just because everybody want to see you fight. You got to wait. You got to build it up. You got to get some fights in. You got to create some type of chaos, some type of the goddamn turmoil. Lomachenko has done enough. Shakur Stevens has done enough that they should be able to get in the ring with Devontae, with Devontae, with Tate.
Starting point is 01:16:40 Hey, it's not that easy, though. It ain't that easy. I mean, the way you said, you know, for us on the outside looking in, like, forget it. Make it happen. But the money got to be right. The money right, Ocho. The fact of the matter is, this is what Camilo, this is what guys do.
Starting point is 01:16:56 Instead of taking a risk at $20 million, they rather fight somebody that they know they can beat for $10. That's how they doing it, Ocho. Yeah. People see what they doing. That's why UFC has surpassed them. Because they know why they ain't let beat for 10. That's how they doing it, Ocho. Yeah. People see what they doing. That's why UFC has surpassed them because they know why they ain't let you dunk nobody. And they ain't got,
Starting point is 01:17:11 and see, you got the WBA, you got the Ring Magazine, the WBO, the IBF, you got all these unif, the sanctioned bodies. Right. You got too many belts.
Starting point is 01:17:26 Man, fight. What you getting the sport for? I mean, just think about it, Ocho. If sports was really like that, you know what? You know, Cam says like, nah, we don't want to play Philly. Y'all send somebody else
Starting point is 01:17:40 to a Super Bowl. Hey, that's... That's what these guys doing. They ducking. I like you put it that way, but uh-uh. You got to understand. At that level, at the elite level, you have to be careful. You have to build your resume.
Starting point is 01:17:55 You want to maximize the... You don't think Lopez don't have the resume to be able to fight Tate? Torfiba? Yeah. Okay, so what you're saying, build a resume. So he don't have a resume right now that's impeccable enough to fight him? What about Seacrest Stevens? His record
Starting point is 01:18:13 ain't good enough? But again, we talk about purse. You got to think about how they thinking. They think about that bag. They think about that money. I don't want to fight you right now because financially, it doesn't make sense it doesn't it doesn't no all i'm saying is man you gotta fight what people loved about sugar ray this is why boxers today don't get the love and the adulation that the old guys because they fought, Ocho. Yeah. For no money, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:45 Yeah, exactly. They are prize fighters. That's what they are. Yes. We can want them to fight as much as you want, but I'm telling you what it come down to. What is my purse looking like? Ocho, your purse looking like
Starting point is 01:19:01 because you not fight nobody. They not getting no $1 million. They not getting a million nobody they're not getting no one million dollar they're not getting a million buys they're not getting 1.5 million buys like floyd so stop trying to think that you're gonna be floyd oh i see what you mean yeah yeah well you ain't gonna never be that because everybody everybody was tuning in to watch floyd lose there's a difference that's how i even got to that point but but look at tyson i mean go back go back and look at those guys those guys fought you gotta fight oh try the other day you gotta fight you gotta fight i i want you to get your money but you ain't nobody gonna be tuning in to watch you watch you bop somebody they want to see
Starting point is 01:19:39 you they want to see lopez and shakur they want to see Tank and Shakur or Lopez. Kevin Haney, Ryan Garcia. Yeah, they want to see fights like that. All those are great matches. But again, why is it so hard? I see some people in the chat complaining and start making excuses. Why is it so hard to get fights?
Starting point is 01:20:00 Why do you think people don't want to send contracts? And when they do send a contract, they look at it and be like, I ain't fucking signing that shit. You ain't even paying me. It all comes down to one thing at the end of the goddamn day, no matter what y'all say in the chat. I ain't making no excuses. The purse ain't where it need to be.
Starting point is 01:20:15 Why the purse isn't where it need to be? Because they don't want to see them jokers fight nobody. They want to see them fight the best. And the purse will be there. I'm not paying you no $25 million to fight some guy that's 13 and 5 and you're 27 and 0. How do you think? We would not hold Sugar Ray in the regard has Sugar Ray not fought who he fought. He fought Benitez.
Starting point is 01:20:47 He fought Hagler. He fought Hearns. He fought Durant. Yeah. I mean, it's different. Hearns fought Hearns, Hagler. They fought. You're talking about in the 80s, the four kings.
Starting point is 01:20:59 Yeah. The best of the best. Go back and look at the 70s and look at those guys. They fought. Yeah. Foreman, Ali, Frazier, Norton, Shavers. What's the other guy? There's another guy that George Foreman just went and they went like eight rounds, but they were just it wasn't it wasn't aesthetically pleasing but Ocho
Starting point is 01:21:26 they were throwing atomic bombs yeah isn't that trying to kill each other yes trying to kill each other yes
Starting point is 01:21:33 I'm speaking you got to think about it too now when I'm sitting here talking I'm listening to people in the chat but then you got to think about I'm in camp
Starting point is 01:21:41 with some of these folk man I'm listening to the conversations I'm I'm in there literally you know why certain fights are getting made I'm in camp with some of these folk, man. I'm listening to the conversations. I'm in there, literally. You know, why certain fights are getting made. I'm in there with Boots. I've been in there with Kayla Plant. Been to VDs.
Starting point is 01:21:53 I done been in the camp with Tank. I done been in the camp with Shakur. It's the same conversation, the same thing over and over. So when I'm saying stuff like this, people say I'm making... No, I'm not making excuses. I'm sitting there listening with my own two ears. I'm listening to what the issues are. Well, we can't make this fight because the money ain't what it should be.
Starting point is 01:22:13 And why am I getting in, risking myself or risking the L or O or whatever it may be for every case? Because you're in the fight game. Why get in the fight game? Every time you step in the ring? There's a chance. There's always a puncher's chance, but I'm still telling you what it is. I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
Starting point is 01:22:34 Look here, until they start and that's why people just stop watching. You got to go all the way to Saudi's. They're trying to make fights in Saudi and in Dubai because they're going to in Saudi and in Dubai because they don't want to fight over here. Fight!
Starting point is 01:22:52 It's so funny. I see people in the chat talking about I'm lying. I mean, it's well documented. Everything I'm saying, all you got to do is just type it in. It's there.
Starting point is 01:23:01 But anyway, anywho, it's all good. Man, I just, hey, I just want to see a fight hey I just want to see him fight I just want to see good fights give me hey hey
