Starting point is 00:04:40 The Celtics, 118 to 112. Monster double-double for Chet Holmgren. Shea was Shea. He's leading in the MVP. 23 points for Chet. 15 rebounds. Shea, if I'm not mistaken, had 33-7. Yep.
Starting point is 00:05:00 No, he had 34-7. One steal. Four rebounds. They got balance score, don't you know?7, one steal, four rebounds. They got balanced score, don't you know? They got Lou Dort gave him 13, Wallace gave him 14, Kim Williams gave him 10, Hardenstein gave him 11, Isaiah Joe gave him 11. It was a very balanced night. The Celtics made a run late in the third quarter to tie this thing up.
Starting point is 00:05:22 But at the start, the fourth, they get out to a lead. OKC does. And then I think over the last stretch, at one point, they outscored them 15-1 on a 15-4 run to kind of blew the game open. Celtics hit a couple of baskets, but they were never able to reattach themselves to the Celtics.
Starting point is 00:05:40 But, man, OKC look really good, Ocho. They don't look good. They look great. They look great. Listen, I think this is the preview of the NBA Finals. Could I be wrong or do you think I'm right? What do you think? You could be right, but the Cavaliers are going to have something to say.
Starting point is 00:05:56 The problem with the Celtics, Ocho, so much of what they do is based on three-point shooting. Why? They got up 63. I have a question. That's their game. That's their game. That's their game. Even if it is their game,
Starting point is 00:06:09 you can't live and die by the three. You're too talented as a team with players that can do much more than just shoot behind the arc. Why are you living and dying by that? What happens when everybody has an off night? You shot 36 damn threes in the first half. 63 for the game. And when you do that, Ocho, you see the difference?
Starting point is 00:06:28 Look at the Thunder. They pressure you. Now they're getting to the free throw line. They got to the free throw line 23 more times. So even though they didn't shoot a great percentage, I think they were like, what, 25 or 35 or something like that. Even though you don't shoot a great percentage, unless you miss three quarters of them,
Starting point is 00:06:48 the Celtics went to the free throw line 12 times. They made 10. The other team went to the foul line 35 times. What if you went to the foul line 35 times? Let's just say you make 20 of them. You're already up. That's 10 more points from the foul line than the opposing team. Well, they made 23.
Starting point is 00:07:04 So I got a question. As a coach, as a coach, if you see the opposing team. Well, they made 23. So I got a question. As a coach, as a coach, if you see the threes not working, at what point do you abandon the three? At what point do you abandon three and have somebody run plays? Now, I know Porzingis didn't play, so you really can't do much of the paint,
Starting point is 00:07:17 but you still have players that can get down there and bang and do other stuff besides shoot behind the arc, knowing you're having an off night. I don't understand. Because that's their game plan. It's kind of like why you say it's like a team that throws the football. You say, why are you throwing the football when you see you're not having success?
Starting point is 00:07:36 Because that's what they do. Why are you running the football? You see they stopping you. Well, that's what we do. The Celtics shoot. They take more, not necessarily makeeltics shoot they take more not necessarily make more but they take more threes than anybody and if you look at locho uh jb did not have a great great game tonight not tonight no he did not no i mean really with deception i mean he he
Starting point is 00:07:56 didn't play good but give okc credit they got tremendous wing defenders oh yeah caruso didn't even play but you go look at Isaiah Joe. You look at Lou Doran. You look at Wiggins. You look at Wallace. You look at Trent Holmgren. They can defend. They can defend to the perimeter.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And they can defend to paint now that Holmgren is back. And you got Shea that's giving you 30 on the night. Right. And then you got, even though Jalen Williams didn't play. Jalen Williams didn't play. He didn't even play. He's going to give you 20 a night. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:26 But these other guys are going to chip in and give you the 13 to 14. They did an outstanding job on JV. They contested everything. They made it very difficult. They fouled him out. He only had, what, 10 points? And that was late in the ball game. But they fouled him out.
Starting point is 00:08:42 They fouled Derek White out because they put pressure on you. They're attacked. Now, they don't take threes, but they're looking to attack the basket and get you in foul trouble. But this is OKC. They're going to be tough. SGA passed Kevin Durant tonight to become the fastest player in Thunder supersonic history to reach 10,000 points.
Starting point is 00:09:07 That's saying something amazing. That's saying something. And we know how prolific KD is at scoring the basketball. Oh, yeah. He got one of the highest scoring averages in NBA history. And for him to get to 63 to get to 10,000 points quicker than KD, that's saying something. He should be very proud of that. The Celtics took
Starting point is 00:09:29 63 threes tonight, Ocho. 63. 63. And see, this is what makes it an ugly game. This is what people be talking about. You take it all in three, clank, break, clank. Boom. Yeah. Listen, it's a beautiful thing when they on fire now yeah listen listen it's a beautiful thing when they're
Starting point is 00:09:46 on fire now yes it's a beautiful thing when they're hitting and obviously extends the lead and makes it difficult for other teams to come back but when you off they off this is why you see celtics get leads and teams track them down because they keep taking threes they miss it and now all of a sudden they go down to the other end and other team, they might make a few or get layups or get filed. And next thing you know, they're right back into the ball game. The Celtics can shoot you out of the gym,
Starting point is 00:10:14 but they can shoot you back into the gym with all those missed hurry, rush three. And that's what you have to worry about. The Thunder now have two fourth quarter wins against Boston. SGA, the best both times. Doesn't seem like the Celtics can guard him. They can't. And the Celtics got good defenders. You look at Derek White. They started with Holiday
Starting point is 00:10:33 on him. You look at JB. That man got 34. And he did it on an efficient night. It wasn't like he was level to 28. I think he was like 12 of 20 or something like that. He and Michael Jordan are the only two guards in NBA like he was 11 to 28. I think he was like 12 of 20 or something like that. He didn't. I mean, he and Michael Jordan are the only
Starting point is 00:10:48 two guards in NBA history to score and to average at least 30 while shooting 50% from the floor. So that tells you what type of Shea was 11 of 20. 11 of 20, Ocho. But he went to the foul line 11 times. He was
Starting point is 00:11:05 to the left from the foul line. So he put pressure on you because his handle, three-level score, he can get to the paint, he can get to the lane, finish at the rim. He got a mid-range game. Now he's added a three. Now he didn't shoot the three-ball well tonight. He was one for seven. But he has that in his repertoire.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I was watching him warm up tonight, and the shot that kind of like sealed the game, he got to the top of the key, back down, back down, nice touch, boom, hit the rim, got a great bounce, went in. He worked on that shot pretty much all night. I'm just watching him going round and round and shooting that shot.
Starting point is 00:11:37 But he got his ability. He kind of reminds you the way he could like, like a left hand, like a right hand to James Harden. When James was in his peak, and was just, you know, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. Okay. No, I'm not. I'm going to the rim, okay? You get a hug up on him, and he pulled through, foul.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Yeah. Wait, wait. Hold on, hold on. Go ahead. You went to the game? No, I was watching it. I was watching. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:03 No, hell no. Oh, okay. No, no. I didn't go to the game? No, I was watching it. I was watching. No, hell no. Oh, okay. No, no, I didn't go to the game. But you just, you know, if you do go to a game, I kind of like to see the guys warm up, especially where they're shooting from. Because I think they're anticipating, because a lot of guys, when they go out and shoot around, they
Starting point is 00:12:20 work on spots. And it's like, okay, this is kind of where I'm going to be. Let's get this. You see LeBron shooting threes. He go around the horn shooting threes. Okay, he gets to his post up. Okay, he gets on the right side.
Starting point is 00:12:33 He demands the ball. Boom. Okay, I'm going to post up. Okay, I'm going to fake. And I'm going to go up and under. Guys do certain things. So I like to watch to kind of see how the game is going to play out and work on this. you watch Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:12:46 Steph is one that you watch because you see what he's doing. He's running, getting to a spot. Boom. He's doing certain things. But Ochoa have to watch it. OKC, man. Boy, the West got their hands full. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Most definitely. The West got their hands full. LeBron has returned to Los Angeles per medical recommendation as he continues to progress well from strain left groin. The Lakers have two games remaining on their current four-game road trip back-to-back Thursday night against the Bucs, Friday against the Nuggets. Oh, Joe? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:20 What you think? You think, LeBron, I mean, I can see him missing another week? You can't play with soft tissue injuries now. No. You cannot play with soft tissue injuries. Groin, hamstring, any soreness with the Achilles, any soreness with the knee. Cav, hams, quads.
Starting point is 00:13:37 A cav, man. A doctor. You can't play like that. You got to make sure you all the way healed. And then when you do come back, you can't come back not to play in the game. You got to start in practice. You got to start in practice and see how much energy you can exert. And if you feel anything tug, you feel anything pull, you feel that little pinch.
Starting point is 00:13:58 That little catch. Hey, uh-uh. Uh-uh. But it's such a great feeling, though, when you have a soft tissue injury like that and you see how far you could push it and you don't feel nothing. You go a little extra harder.
Starting point is 00:14:16 And for the groin area, you really can't put no compression there. You know, the hamstring, you can tighten it up. You put the wrap around to keep it tight, to keep it warm. The groin area, there ain't up. You put the wrap around to keep it tight, to keep it warm. The groin area, there ain't much you can put there. Ain't much you can put there.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I'm kind of nervous for LeBron, especially at his age because as you get older, you heal a lot slower now. Yeah, you do. Even as advanced as technology is, you heal slower. I hope he can get back as fast as Papua. I'm sure they have different grades
Starting point is 00:14:48 when it comes to joint injury. So I'm hoping it's not that bad. I'm hoping it's a grade one and not that serious. So hopefully it gets back soon. But I know one thing, but soft tissue injuries, ain't nothing to play with. Because it sets you back even further if you come back too soon. Yep.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I think, yeah, that's definitely what happened, Ocho, if you come back too soon. The thing is that trying to push it. Because normally soft tissue injury is a sudden movement. Yep. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences
Starting point is 00:16:42 with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. Starting point is 00:17:22 podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn.
Starting point is 00:17:57 In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy
Starting point is 00:18:48 through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life
Starting point is 00:19:18 through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. Now all of a sudden, that thing because you used to be able to go, I just take off.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Whoa, why you moving so fast? Slow your ass down. Hey, get your attention real quick. It does. Having dealt with, you know, hamstring injuries and had an adductor. I had a groin. I had a groin injury.
Starting point is 00:20:13 And, man, it wasn't that bad. But what happened was I didn't realize I had a groin injury. But it was coming on. And, you know, Ocho, we go away for training camp. And, you know, I'm on the diving board. Right. You know, I'm trying to hit me a one and a half. I'm hitting me a pike. You know what I'm saying, Ocho? Right, right.
Starting point is 00:20:35 I feel like Greg Lugate or something. I'm like, oh, you know. Right. Man, I woke up the next morning. It hurt? Was it? Well, you ain't feeling why you was going off the board? I ain't feel nothing.
Starting point is 00:20:51 I'm in the water stroking. Right, right, right. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Man, I mean, hey, it wasn't that bad. I missed like two, three days of practice, and I was good to go. But, nah, don't play with them groins. Don't play with them groins.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Don't play with any soft tissue, like you said, because what happens is the sudden movement that will cause it to grab. Yeah. And your thing is, like, before you know it, you done gone harder than you should have. And the one thing you don't want to do, and I've seen people do it, tear that ham off the bone, tear that quad, rip a groin. Yeah. You don't want them products to problem.
Starting point is 00:21:34 You don't. I know the Lakers facility. I know they have it. You know, the pool work with the treadmill. Yes. That'll get you going. So you're not shooting. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:42 It takes the buoyancy and it don't put the weight on, yeah, yes, yes You get your conditioning, you don't put much weight on it just to see how much you can actually open up, but because of the resistance of the water it won't allow it to grab like it should if you were not free weight, what's the word I'm looking for?
Starting point is 00:22:00 You were on your own and using your own strength, that water and that resistance tends to... The water gives you buoyancy. So basically, you're not even a third of what you normally would weigh
Starting point is 00:22:12 if it was doing it. So yeah, the Ravens had that at facility because my knees, my last year there, my knees because I had so much fluid on the mojo, I couldn't practice.
Starting point is 00:22:21 So my condition was getting in that pool, doing that 10-15 minutes in the morning and doing it 10-15 minutes. That was my conditioning because I had to take all the pressure off my knees knowing I'm going to get them drained on Sunday before the game,
Starting point is 00:22:38 ice them things up, then I'm going to warm them up so I can go. That's what it was. You have to understand because, look, I got to get conditioned. I mean, to just go out there on Sundays. Oh, no. Man. That's a tough task.
Starting point is 00:22:52 It is. Conditioning is everything. Because when you get tired, all of a sudden you get lazy with your eyes. You get lazy with your arms. You get lazy with your head. All that stuff. You know, you don't want to get out of those breaks. The ball's up on you before you know it.
Starting point is 00:23:06 There is no worse feeling than being exhausted and knowing you still have a task to do playing a sport. I ain't telling you what somebody told me, Chad. I'm telling you what I know. I've been there. And I look back on it, I say,
Starting point is 00:23:21 man, had I not been tired, I'll never forget, 1995, had I not been tired. I'll never forget, 1995. Had I not been tired that first game of the season against Buffalo, I'd have gone for 250. I went for 180, but I was exhausted. Right. And I dropped like three passes just because I was exhausted. Right.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Just because I was exhausted. Man, I was like, bro. But hopefully LeBron is a fast healer. He does a great job. He has a great team around him. They say a million dollars. When you got a guy on call 24 hours a day, you're eating up some time. He got medical people. He got
Starting point is 00:23:56 a chef that's full-time. He has all this. LeBron James is spending more than $2 million a year on that body. Trust me. Because I know what I spent when I played and I ain't have nobody full time. I ain't have nobody full time.
Starting point is 00:24:11 I mean, Mike Macias travels with the team. Mike Macias, that's LeBron's only client. Do you know? Coach, I don't know if you ever had a massage therapy or anything like that, a masseuse or massage therapist or whatever you call them.
Starting point is 00:24:30 But when I would bring mine from Denver and he would stay three or four days, I had to buy the whole book because I'm calling him to miss the appointment. Yeah. You take, you take him away from all his work. Yeah. So I got to pay, Hey,
Starting point is 00:24:42 he might have six or seven appointments a day and you know, 150, $200. I got to pay Hey he might have Six or seven appointments a day And you know 150, 200 dollars I got to buy that Yeah If I want him for a week Or two weeks I've got to buy All those appointments
Starting point is 00:24:52 On top of what you got to get On top of what I got to pay him Hey see You know There's something wrong with me I always I always Players like
Starting point is 00:25:03 Terrell Owens Yeah Terrell Owens was like you Terrell Owens. Yeah. Yeah. Terrell Owens was like you. Terrell Owens was like, when it came to LeBron, really took care of their body.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Yes. Hyperbaric chamber, cold tub, eating right, doing, doing everything, everything necessary to make sure their vitamins on point. And then here go my crazy,
Starting point is 00:25:24 eating wrong, you know, eatingdonald's you know uh barely stretching in the in the in the when it's time for practice i'm sitting there talking trash in the stretch line you know barely stretching get out there just run never got hurt um ask me how many sodas i got in the 12 year in the 12 year nfl career how many man two i i ain't like nobody touching me, man. I'm like, listen, I thought, I used to argue with TJ. And when Terrell came to the Bengals, I'm arguing with him. Like, man, you don't need to do all that, bro.
Starting point is 00:25:54 You don't have to do all they're doing and breaking up the tissue and creating scar tissue. And I really think it's a mind thing. You know, I had my own thing because it worked for me. And because I never got hurt, never got injured, I felt I didn't really need it right and i don't know i used to argue with some of my teammates back and forth about getting massages i got did it two times one time it was you know i was a rookie i said you know what i ain't doing this no more and the last time i had a i had a little pinch on my hamstring just a little pinch and i had i had a lady i had the lady massaged out a little bit put the acupuncture yeah what would you call them um the it looks like neatly cup yeah they did the
Starting point is 00:26:32 cupping after needling ain't nobody ever touched me ever since then i just i just i just i don't know it's weird i felt it was a mind thing you know the game massage and all of a sudden mentally you think oh i feel better nah really. I don't think so. Now what I did do when I played the entire time, that cold tub, Oh, I love that cold water boy. I get in the cold tub from the neck down. I do my, I do my five minute contrast, five minute hot, five minute cold. And I finished with the hot, hit the shower and I'm good. Cold tub. That's what you them babies. Cold tub increases
Starting point is 00:27:05 your sperm count. Is that what happens? Is that what? It does. What happens is the same thing happens when you put raw meat on people. That's what happens. But it definitely increases the sperm.
Starting point is 00:27:21 It definitely increases your sperm count. Well, actually, just to be honest, and listen, we family, and I like, listen, I like to share this with the family, because we family and I, and like, the kids that I do have, right? All of them, just blessings, just blessings and God is good, especially
Starting point is 00:27:38 when it comes to them. But, these were agreements. You hear me? These were agreements. So, there's a conversation that's had. Like, listen, you're athletic. I like your background. I've studied your film. You know, anybody I've dated, anybody I had kids from, I asked them, can I see some footage?
Starting point is 00:27:55 You know, were you athletic? Did you play volleyball? Did you softball? Did you run track? Can you jump? You know? So when we go on our first dates, I'm not going on dates so you can put on clothes and look good. I'm trying to see how athletic you are.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Let's go hoop. Let's go to Dave and Buster's. Let's go roller skate. Can you move? Do you have coordination? Can you dance? If you have two left feet, I can't do nothing with you. Because now if I have a kid with you,
Starting point is 00:28:24 now that means my child going to have two left feet, I can't do nothing with you. Because now, if I have a kid with you, now that means my child will have two left feet. I don't want my child getting picked last in PE. I want them picked first. You know? So that's how I operate. The Denver Nuggets got their get back tonight against the OKC Thunder. 1-40,1-27.
Starting point is 00:28:46 The Nuggets scored 140 points. They shot 61% from the floor. They shot 56% from the three. All season's worst, allowed by the number one ranked defense in KLC. OKC.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Jokic went off. 35 points, 18 rebounds, 8 assists. Jalen Williams left the game with a right strain hip. And it showed. Look, Shea is going to win the MVP, and he should. But make no mistake, the best player in the world is Nikola Jokic. Nikola Jokic is the best player in the world, and it's not close. As great as Shea is, ain't nobody seeing Jokic.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Can I ask you a question? Yeah, you may certainly make. This kind of really don't make no sense to me now. Now, if FGA is the MVP, but you consider Jokic the best player in the world right now. How does that go? How does that even go hand in hand in general? Because the best player doesn't always win the MVP. LeBron James was the best player for a decade.
Starting point is 00:29:56 He only has four, maybe longer, and he only has four MVP. Michael Jordan, same thing. So that doesn't necessarily always equate. You look at how well a guy's playing the best player on okc yes look at their record 53 and 12 the number one seed in the western conference and so basically it's him yoke yannis we'll see what happens with lebron maybe jt but when you look at the numbers that yokeic is putting up, 29 points a game, 12 rebounds a game, 10 assists a game,
Starting point is 00:30:28 he's on pace to average a triple-double. He's the best player. I get all that what y'all saying, Chad. I hear it. And Shea has been phenomenal, leading the league in scoring. But Shea is not a better player. Giannis
Starting point is 00:30:44 is not a better player. JT is not a better player. JT is not a better player. Luka, LeBron, whomever you want to throw in the equation, the best player in the NBA, the best basketball player in the world is from Serbia.
Starting point is 00:31:00 And he's Nikola Jokic. Are you sure about that? I'm 1,000% categorically for certain. I've never been sure about any more thing in my life other than my firstborn. She looks just like me. I've never been more sure about anything. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Okay. Based on giving me a better understanding and context context and how most of the time the best player doesn't actually win the mvp i i'm going to have to agree with you in a sense but what sga is doing this year is phenomenal the reason why they're first and have the record that they do and statistically on both sides of the court offensively and defensively they're at the top top three in almost every statistical category I
Starting point is 00:31:49 would kind of put him up there with Joker as the best player in the NBA but you think Joker is instead based on the numbers that yeah no Joker's Yoko's hands down the best player it's not it's not now that that's not to take that's not to take away anything from shay
Starting point is 00:32:06 and what he's doing he's gonna be a unanimous first team all nba selection and rightfully so i believe he's gonna win the mvp and rightfully so but i believe two things can be true i believe shay deserves the mvp he's earned that awardola Jokic is the best player in basketball. If you dribble a basketball and you breathe oxygen, Nikola Jokic is dead. That's all I'm saying. And he doesn't, that's not a knock on shade. I mean, there are guys that want MVP. Look, Karl Malone was MVP. He wasn't a better player than Michael Jordan.
Starting point is 00:32:46 What are we doing here? He wasn't. But look at his team's record. Look at the numbers that he put up. Bro, check this out. I guarantee you, if Shaden didn't have this record, let's just say they was tied with Yolk now. Yolk would win four MVPs in a five-year
Starting point is 00:33:05 span. Because the numbers, look at his numbers, Ocho, 29, 12, and 10. And he's shooting 57, 58% from the floor. He was 15 or 20. Let's see again.
Starting point is 00:33:22 15 or 20, one of two from the three-point line. Hell, he's shooting down there 50%. What are you shooting for the three this year? He just doesn't take. I don't know if he takes enough to qualify. He's shooting 43 percent from the from the floor but excuse me from the three he's shooting 57 57 58 percent 57 almost 58 percent from the floor he's shooting 43 percent from the three points that's crazy they didn't no if. Take this away. Shea's going to win the MVP.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I guarantee you, if you poll all the GMs and ask them, I bet Yoke wins. It's 30 teams. You got 30 GMs. He's going to probably win 28-2, 27-3 as the best player in the NBA. It's not close. Don't knock on nobody. It's not. But tonight, he showed you what he's capable of
Starting point is 00:34:28 and then he had his guy with him Murray 11-22, 3-7, 34 they only played 8 guys 6 of them scored in double figures the 7th guy had 8 points and he only played 18 minutes
Starting point is 00:34:44 everybody scored and touched the court except one guy The seventh guy had eight points, and he only played 18 minutes. Everybody scored that touched the court except one guy. What would Shay Stat lie tonight? Shay had 25. He was 8 of 14, 3 of 7, 6 of 6. His plus minus was minus 18. Chet Holmgren was minus 20. Lou Dort, who led him in scoring, was minus 8.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Isaiah Hartenstein was the only one that had a plus. No, Jalen Williams had a plus, but he left with about 14 minutes in the ballgame. 5 of 10, 1 of 3. Look, you're going to have one of these games, Ocho. You're not going to be, look, I don't care. The best defense, look at the 85 Bears.
Starting point is 00:35:21 I don't know if you remember that Monday Night Massacre that Miami put on their hands. I'm old enough to remember that. They beat the Braves off the Bears in the Orange Bowl back in 84. Go look it up on that Monday night and look what Dan Marino did to them. So you're going to have a bad game. You look at what happened to us. We played that defense that year.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Jimmy Smith dropped down to 300 yards receiving on us and three guys down he had 15 for 291 duane starr seems like they're struggling and chris mckelly you cutting he cutting everybody ass it didn't matter yeah i remember that he's like hey you get him i'll cut your nah nah you go back over there i don't have enough i don't i don't want to go happens Nicola Jokic Averaging 29 points 13 rebounds 11 assists
Starting point is 00:36:11 So he's third in scoring Third in rebounding Second in assists Eleventh in field goal percentage Shea is first in scoring At 33 points 76 in rebounds 5.1
Starting point is 00:36:26 16th in assists 6.2 25th in field goal percentage I mean He about to become the second guard I think Michael Jordan did it To score 30 On at least 50% shooting as a guard
Starting point is 00:36:38 That's crazy That's crazy efficiency I'm talking about crazy. I mean, because think about it. Only two guys have ever done it in the history that played the guard position. Now, there have been bigs. Obviously, if you're big, that's different. You're not taking the
Starting point is 00:36:56 outside shots like a guard is. But for Jordan, the average 30 and shoot 50% from the floor and Shea Heldam is shooting 53% from the floor. He's had aeldem is shooting 53% from the floor. He's had a phenomenal season. And to watch the process and watch how he's gotten better and better and better every single year.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Now, I'm not saying that if you work hard, you're going to be able to have a meteoric rise like him. But it's just hard for me to see a player not getting incrementally better if he works. Now, are you going to take that leap like he's taken? Probably not. But you'll get better. Something was already in him, though.
Starting point is 00:37:35 You've got to understand, players are different in regards to what sport you play. When you work hard, if you already got the talent and you add that with working hard, that's when the leaps and bounds happen in your game like that. You look at LeBron, look at Jordan, look at Kobe. Guys that are immensely talented but are equally as hardworking. So now you combine the talent with hard work. Elevate the heights with hard work. Elevate the heights unknown.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Yes. And sometimes if you work hard, you don't have to be the most talented. Larry Bird wasn't leaping out of the gym. He wasn't the fleetest of foot. But he'd tear your ass up. Same thing with Magic. Magic, we had never seen anything like Magic. We'd never seen a 6'9 guy, you a power forward or you a center.
Starting point is 00:38:33 That's what a 6'9 guy. He was the same height as Mr. Russell, 6'9. Now he's playing the point guard. So now you got little six-foot guards trying to guard him. Hell, he looked right over the top of them. Put a hand up in his face. What? Put what hand Hell, he looked right over the top of there. Put a hand up in his face. What? Put what hand?
Starting point is 00:38:49 So he could see over the top of the defense. This was a great game. Obviously, OKC, they played, just played, had an unbelievable performance the other night. This was a back-to-back, right? Yeah, because they played last night. Yeah, they beat the Nuggets in Denver. Yeah. Was that game in the Nuggets in Denver. Yeah. Was that game in Denver or was it in OKC?
Starting point is 00:39:12 Was both in OKC? OK. OK. But Jokic gets his revenge. The Nuggets get back on the winning track. 140. They scored 34. They had 67 points at the half.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Wow. OKC had 73 at the half. And then the second half, they gave up 73 second-half points to the Nuggets while they scored
Starting point is 00:39:42 54 second- half points. That was the difference in the ball game, and that's why they ran away with it. Steph Curry has accepted a role with his alma mater, Davidson College, as an assistant general manager for basketball program. Steph becomes the first active player in the U.S., major professional sports, to take an administrative job
Starting point is 00:40:01 with an NCAA team. When asked about Steph's new job, Steve Kerr has some jokes. Well, if he asked to leave the game to go scout college, I'll probably say no. But it is Steph Curry, so I'll probably say yes. I just hope he doesn't ask. I like it I mean it's cool what if they made you general manager
Starting point is 00:40:34 of Oregon State that would be nice no what if they made you general manager of family now we cooking now we cooking. Now we cooking. Hey, now we talking. You hear me?
Starting point is 00:40:53 You make me anything having to do with FAMU, I'm gone. I'm gone. I'm out. I'm out. Oh, so I got to have to find me a new partner? No, no, no. I could do the show from Tallahassee.
Starting point is 00:41:06 You ain't got to find nothing. And the Wi-Fi work just fine in Tallahassee. Ain't nothing wrong with it. Huh? Come on, man. Nah. Yeah. Listen, I will pick up and relocate to Tallahassee right now.
Starting point is 00:41:22 If the president called me, anybody of the governing body that has anything to do with FAMU want me in Tallahassee to be anything. I don't care what it is. I'm packing up and I'm leaving right now.
Starting point is 00:41:41 Man, please. Hey. What? I guess you Man, please. What? I guess you want to be general manager, man. Listen, you mean to tell me I get to put on a suit and tie? Man, you don't have to wear no suit and tie. But if I'm the general manager, I'm going to be... What general manager do you know wears a suit and tie? This if I'm the general manager, boy, I'm finna be... Woo!
Starting point is 00:42:07 What general manager you know wears a suit and tie? This one? Every time you see me step out, I'ma be in a suit and tie. I'ma have an orange suit. I'ma have a green suit. I'ma have a rattler pin, a famu pin, and I'm... That green suit, you gonna be looking like the green.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Ooh. One thing about it, when it comes to fashion, I don't play. So if I have on a suit, I'm going to look sharp. I'm going to be sharper than the number two pencil. I'm going to be cleaner than the border hill.
Starting point is 00:42:38 I'm going to be casket sharp. Hey! Woo-hoo! And you got me excited with that idea, too, man. Golly! Hey, just the thought of that. You know, being able
Starting point is 00:42:54 to address the governing body, FMU, the students, the faculty. Man, you ain't auditioning for no job. Now it's time for our final segment of the evening. It's time for Q&A. You auditioning for a job
Starting point is 00:43:12 on the job. He sitting out his resume on my job. Chat, y'all see this fool? He auditioning for a job. He at the job sitting out his resume on my computer. I'm just trying to diversify my portfolio, baby.
Starting point is 00:43:37 My bad. That man out here auditioning, sitting at his resume on my company computer. Okay, that was funny. That was funny. That was funny. No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask Attorney General. I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn.

Starting point is 00:47:52 Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. Ocho, Shea Gilgis Alexander scored 40 points today as the Thunder defeated the Denver Nuggets 127-103 in the battle of the two of the top West contenders.
Starting point is 00:48:30 But the big news came when Nikola Jokic, Joke, became the first player in NBA history to record a 30-20-20 game in overtime win against the Suns. Joke finished 31 points, 21 rebounds, and a season-high 22 assists. He ranks third in points per game, 28. Third in rebounds per game, 12.8. Second in assists per game, 10.4
Starting point is 00:48:58 this season. He's averaging more points and more assists than he did when he won the MVP in his three previous seasons the only thing that's working against him is Shea is playing out of his mind and they're the number one seed crazy any other season you could make a case that Yolk would probably be trying to go for five because Joel Embiid clipped him one year. He finished second. He won it last year after the previous two years of being back-to-back.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Embiid clipped him, and then he comes back and wins again this year. But, I mean, Yolk, I mean, what do you say? I mean, I don't really know what to say. I mean, what word, what adjective do you want to use to describe what you're seeing from Nikola Jokic? Man, listen, the resume speaks for itself. The accolades, the MVPs, the numbers, the stats. I mean, you watch him play. I was going to throw a slight comparison out there to somebody who just got traded based on style of play and the way they move and how they have a very lethargic style of play. But I'm going to let that go
Starting point is 00:50:08 because he's very efficient at what he does. He's very, very, very good at what he does. He looks exhausted. He looks exhausted in that game, though, towards the end. With that yoke? Yeah. Yeah, because he plays... I'm not trying to say he's out of shape or nothing. You know, I ain't trying to say he's smoking hookah and beer or nothing like that. I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:50:27 He like, he gonna get his beer on now. He drank his beer. But here's the thing, Ocho. He played 41 minutes. The only 48 minutes in the game. He played 48. Jamar Murray played 42. So that's normally, they don't normally play. You normally get to 40 minutes once you go overtime
Starting point is 00:50:41 or you go double overtime. Guys are not, especially as they start to age they don't normally play that many minutes in a regular season game now postseason game wait i'm trying to win every game matters yeah they're not catching nobody is catching okc for the top seed now you're jockeying maybe two through six because you want to stay out of the play-in seven through ten is the play-in anything above that that, hey, your position, you jockey for position. Lakers right now, I think they have second. Percentage points is going to go back and forth.
Starting point is 00:51:14 LeBron got injured last night. We'll see how that plays out. And then you got Memphis. You got Houston. You got Golden State trying to climb up the ladder. But basically, you're trying to stay in that two through six range because you're not catching OKC for the number one seed. But when you look at what Yoke is doing, and like you said today,
Starting point is 00:51:32 24 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists. He had a steal and he only had two turnovers. But like you said, they didn't shoot the ball well. He was two or 10 from three. Jamal Mervs, one of five from three. Michael Porter Jr He was 2 of 10 from 3. Jamal Murray was 1 of 5 from 3. Michael Porter Jr. was 3 of 8 from 3, even though he shot the ball from the floor really well. But if you go look at it, Porter Jr. played 38 minutes.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Yoke played 41 minutes. Murray played 42 minutes. Yeah. Even Russ played 31 minutes. Russ didn't have a – yeah, he was 1 for 9, 1 of 5. They didn't really get a whole lot from their bench. They only got 11. What did they get?
Starting point is 00:52:07 11. They got 14 points from their bench. And that's the problem too, the inconsistency with their bench. Joker is good. Murray is good. But listen, there's one other team outside of OKC where they play collectively great. Even when the starters are out, everybody collectively is
Starting point is 00:52:25 putting in the effort and putting in the work and getting the points. Hell, in the fourth quarter, man, they scored 41 damn points in the final quarter. Now, the only team that has a bench like that is efficient as soon as they come off when the starters aren't playing is the Cavs. It looks exactly the same way. Okay, you know what? I don't have a problem. Even though it's a game of runs, I know my second unit can come in and still keep the same way. Okay, you know what? I don't have a problem. Even though it's a game of runs, I know my second unit can come in and still keep the game going. Still keep the game going forward where we're in the lead. We're still in contention where we don't have to come back into the game
Starting point is 00:52:54 and have another run where we have to either catch up or try to decrease the lead. But, yeah, Shanea's been sensational. He's been all year. It's a two-horse race. I was going to ask you that. It's a two-horse race, yeah. They dropped Giannis.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Yeah, I'm being truthful. Everybody knows that. They dropped Giannis. So, with that being said. Has your thoughts on the MVP changed based on the way Joker's playing? Nah, Shea. Okay, okay. Yeah, he's leading the league in scoring.
Starting point is 00:53:28 His team is number one. He has the most 20-point games, 30-point games, 40-point games, 50-point games. Yeah, no, my – and I think everybody knows. Y'all know what I think about Yoke. He's been one of my favorite players since he got into the NBA. You kind of figured out who he was because at first, Yusef Nurkic, they were in the same draft. They took Nurkic and then they took him in the second round.
Starting point is 00:53:51 With that being said, you could see they traded Nurk and you could understand why. Now, I don't think they knew he would be this. You could see probably you see him in practice and you see him doing things. I don't think they thought he would be this. a three-time mvp potentially i'm going to be shocked if he doesn't win another mvp yeah i'm gonna be shocked now strange the things have happened lebron james had four mvps from by the age of 28 yes i never want another one so that's
Starting point is 00:54:20 not to say it's guaranteed but it's hard with the numbers that he's putting up for the voters on the note. Yeah. That's crazy. But yeah, this is Shays. 53 and 11 is their record. 54 and 10 is the
Starting point is 00:54:39 Cavs record. So who's going to have the best record in the NBA? LeBron is expected to miss one to two weeks with a groin strain. According to Sean, LeBron will wait for the groin injury to calm down over the next 24 hours and receive another evaluation. You know, they probably, you know, at that point in time, Mojo, you know, once it happens, they'll be telling, seeing how tender you are.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Probably perhaps a little inflammation in there. They're probably doing a strength test to see how much strength you have in the leg. Trying to, hey, don't let me push it down. Okay. Don't let me pick it up. Things of that nature. And so now probably that happened last night, Sunday. So probably tomorrow they'll get an MRI for the assessment and see where it is. You know how
Starting point is 00:55:26 based on this injury and extent how much time will be missed or should he shut it down and just wait and allow Luka to carry everything? What do you think? Well, the thing is that he's going to try to get back. It's all going to be contingent on how serious the injury is. The last thing you want to do is come back too soon
Starting point is 00:55:44 and tweak it. Now, that puts you I think if he takes two weeks, he's played what, 57 games? He just needs another eight games to qualify for all NBA things of that nature. But during the two slot, you don't want to slide all the way down.
Starting point is 00:55:59 They do have Luka, and that's the luxury of having two superstars that when one goes down, the other can pick up the slack. We know Luka can carry a load. Austin Reeves can help. It hurts that Rui is not there, because I don't know where else they're going to get the production that they need from a third scoring option if Rui is not there.
Starting point is 00:56:19 Finney Smith is inconsistent. Vanderbilt is more of a defender. I like Kinnett, but he leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end. Finney Smith is inconsistent. Vanderbilt is more of a defender. I like Kinnett, but he leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end. He gets lost in translation a lot. But, I mean, they were playing extremely well. Yes, sir. And this happens.
Starting point is 00:56:44 Very unfortunate, but like you said, maybe this is something, this is why you trade for a Luka. A guy that you're going to put the ball in his hands. He can control pace. He's going to get to where he wants. All you got to do is knock down shots because he's going to find you. Now, they're going to bless you. They're going to try to get the ball out of his hands. They're not going to let him beat you.
Starting point is 00:57:00 Somebody's going to be open no matter what. Yes. Yes. When you get the ball in your hands, you got to make your shots. That's all it comes down to. The volume.
