Starting point is 00:05:13 your order is going to be shipped thank you very much um but we're told everybody has uh received their merch that ordered it early um and you guys are really uh really uh appreciate the quality so let's jump right into it oh joe u.s basketball beat serbia 110 to 84 katie took his anger out you know they left him out of the nike commercial every uh what is it winning is it for everybody something to that effect and katie felt he should have been put in the commercial. I happen to agree with him. He put on the show 23 points, including 21 in the first half on perfect shooting. LeBron James added 21 points,
Starting point is 00:05:53 nine assists, seven rebounds. KD was perfect in the first half and LeBron was perfect in the first half. I was a little nervous, Ocho, because you figure KD goes eight for eight. LeBron goes five or five from three. LeBron is perfect in the first half. He's perfect from the three-point line.
Starting point is 00:06:10 You're only up 10 points. I was like, well, damn. We're supposed to be up like 30. He's supposed to be up 30, but you got to understand, they are playing a quality opponent in service. Turnovers. Again, the turnovers,
Starting point is 00:06:25 they hurt you every time. They hurt you every time. Whether it's Olympics, whether it's the NBA. Hell, you could be playing at the goddamn park and you turn the ball over. Yep.
Starting point is 00:06:33 No matter how much you score and how efficient you are from the field, it's going to affect the outcome and the score. And that is why they were only up by 10. But listen,
Starting point is 00:06:41 I talked to KD, right? Yes. Let me tell you, I think the rest he had not playing in the x i call them exhibition games and having the rest having the fresh legs as opposed to everyone else is why he was so efficient from the field and fresh and had such a good game what you think he was he was he was extremely he was extremely efficient but that's kevin durant he shoots 50
Starting point is 00:07:01 from the floor he's a guy that shot 50% from the floor, 40% from the three, 90% from the free throw line. So, I mean, although it's a welcome sight, he set the bar so high for himself, we expect this when he's on the court. I mean, we've never seen anything like this. A guy that can handle the ball at seven foot tall, that can drive the ball to the basket, can pull up from 35 feet and swish it and you follow him he goes to the free throw line he's gonna make 90 of those yeah we've never seen anything like kevin durant yeah dirt had to
Starting point is 00:07:34 fade away but dirt couldn't put the ball on the floor like kd dirt couldn't take you one-on-one like kd with yeah the one leg is the one-legged step back, that's dirt. Now, we see a lot of guys. KD got that shot. LeBron got that shot a lot. Luka has that shot in his bag. Jokic. But to be seven foot tall, to be able to handle the ball like KD can, we needed that.
Starting point is 00:07:56 There's a reason why he's about to, hopefully, if everything pans out, he's about to be the first male to win four gold medals in basketball. Yes, sir. Jason Tatum did not play i don't think tyrese halliburton got in the game either did he did tyrese halliburton play i don't think halliburton played either i say i i have a question now do we think halliburton and jason tatum might be hurt or the fact that we have such a a great bench and we have such a great starting cast already starting do you think this is something strategic
Starting point is 00:08:25 by Kerr no he said they're gonna look trying to get KD back into a rhythm and so KD gets it going you don't want to break that rhythm I mean the guy didn't miss so why the hell you gonna sub him out and put somebody else in right and look they're gonna be opportunities uh and that's what see Ocho when you go to, when you go to the Olympics or you're on an all-star team, you have to understand. And I get it. Well, everybody say, well, I'm an all-star too, and I'm an Olympian too.
Starting point is 00:08:51 You are. But at that point in time, in the back of Steve Kermine, that's Serbia. That's Nikola Jokic. Three MVPs in the last four years. They got Bogdan Bogdanovic. He's an NBA player. They have Havik. He's an NBA player.
Starting point is 00:09:08 They're a really good team. They're a really good team. I'm trying to win. Damn your feelings. I hate, honestly, Ocho, I hate, because you know, look, not now, but when we played in the Pro Bowl, Ocho, you know how that thing got, when that thing got
Starting point is 00:09:23 late in the game, they weren't running those subs in and out. Oh, hell no. Oh, no. We riding the big guns. Yeah. Yeah. But I listened to Steve Kerr's press conference.
Starting point is 00:09:34 He said there are going to be opportunities for Jason Tatum. And, look, it's tough. I mean, it's tough, Ocho, because you have to understand, that man just won the NBA. He's an all-NBA player. And it's like theycho because you have to understand that man just won the NBA he's an all NBA player and they treat him like he's like basically he and Halliburton was the 11th and 12th
Starting point is 00:09:52 guy on the bench the one thing I think about it obviously for one represent your country and you think about the added pressure even though it's still the game of basketball represent your country and then not actually playing I wonder does it affect their mental and their confidence by not even getting in the game simply because Kevin Durant was hot
Starting point is 00:10:11 and you never want to take the hot man off the court at the time? I wonder if that would bother him a little bit. Look, you don't make it to the level. You don't make it to the level. The great, listen, the greater the player, the greater the talent, the greater the whatever it is the more pride he or she has don't let anybody tell you otherwise whether it's oprah whether it's tyler perry whether it's lebron james whether it's michael jordan whether it's beyonce taylor
Starting point is 00:10:38 swift the greater the person the greater the pride that they have jason Tatum is an NBA, all NBA player. He's a perennial all-star. He's a champion. Yes, he has pride. And he might not ever admit that. You damn right it bothered him. Bro, we ought to go on the stage. I want to grow my brand too.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Yeah, yeah, yeah. So now all the pressure's on Kerr. The pressure's not even on the players it's the pressure on curve now having to be able to figure out how to get everybody in how to keep everybody happy and not have the team spinner within because everybody wants to be able to get their playing time and showcase their skills on the biggest stage representing their country right team france you know the olympics are in. Joel Embiid, many thought he was going to play for Team France. So that big front line, Joel Embiid, Victor Wiminyama, Rudy Gobert.
Starting point is 00:11:33 That didn't happen. Last second, he switched his allegiance. He's playing for Team USA. Every time Joel Embiid got the ball, they booed him. Nobody's surprised by that because they wanted to greatly increase their chance of winning the goal, especially on home soil, and
Starting point is 00:11:53 he greatly would have helped that. But, unfortunately, he chose, fortunate for us, unfortunately for them, he decided to play for Team USA. Were you surprised that they booed him? No, not at all. Not at all.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Obviously, having allegiance to the USA and having allegiance to play over there and choosing the USA instead, I mean, obviously they're going to boo you. That's going to happen. I think he knows they were going to boo you. That's going to happen. I think he knows they were going to boo him. Being at Joel Embiid in general and at times when he played at certain away stadiums, he gets booed here in the States. Yes. Depending on who they're playing. Right. So I'm assuming he's used to that. He plays in Philly.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Yes. We know how Philly fans are. They boo him in Boston. They boo their own players. New York, everywhere he goes. Hey, listen. So I'm sure he's used to it. He knows what comes with the
Starting point is 00:12:46 territory when he decided to play for Team USA. So I'm sure it's not going to bother him at all. If anything, he's probably going to go out there and cut a goddamn rug the rest of the way just to let them know I'm still leading VP. I think he's 100%
Starting point is 00:13:02 still. You remember Ocho. A lot of the playoffs, he was banged up. And what he needed was rest. And he didn't get a whole lot of time because once the NBA finals, they were in training camp getting ready to try to build some chemistry. If anybody should be upset, it should be Cameroon. He's from Cameroon.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Yeah. Yeah. So I get it, France. You know, he grew up in France, yada, yada, yada. But yeah, he spent a lot of time in America. We paid America. He earned 50 million a year in America. So if anybody should be upset, should be booing, it's Cameroon.
Starting point is 00:13:38 That's his native country. Mm-hmm. So I ain't got no problem with Joel Embiid. He went like, look, my son was born here. gave it, you know, he laid it out like my son is born him born in America. I'm proud. I'm proud to be, you know, be in America. I'm proud that this country has accepted me and my family. So I get it. I'm not surprised that he got booed either. Ocho, the France-French team really thought they had a leg up considering that big lineup that they could have trotted out there
Starting point is 00:14:09 with Joel Embiid. Can you imagine 7'4.5 Victor Wimbayama, 7'1.5 Rudy Gobert, 7'1, 7'2 Joel Embiid. That would have been nasty, boy. That would have been a nasty combination. That would have been a nasty trio you might not
Starting point is 00:14:26 guard nobody anyone on the perimeter but you're gonna get no shots off in the paint yeah yeah that would have been that would have been nice that would have been real nice uh will this team win go ad reverence the movie space jam and state of america to understand how strong the international competition has become we don't take these things for granted. You don't come in like, oh, we're the monsters and they're just going to crash. We're going to crush everybody. Like those days are long gone, which I say it because, oh, Joe, you got to think about it.
Starting point is 00:14:56 If I'm not mistaken, I think in 92, there might've been less than 10 international players in the NBA. The prominent ones that we knew of, Sharunas, Marcellonas. We knew about Tony Kukoc. We knew about Arbita Sabonis up in Portland. But there was not a whole lot. There are 61 international players currently in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:15:21 And there was not any international players. We're not even in the NBA. And there was not any international players were not even in the top 30. The best player in the NBA is an international player, Nikola Jokic. So you might have three of the top five. You could make a case. Giannis, he's an international player. He's Greek. He's playing for the Greek
Starting point is 00:15:39 national team. What about Luka? Even though they didn't make it serbia those are the players the serbian team has three players that's currently in the nba current the best player is on the serbian team look at canada shea gilgis jamal murray rj mary lou dorks dylan power Lou Dorf, Dylan Powell. No team in the 90s other than the Americans had six players that were in the NBA on their roster. Roster, yeah. It's different now.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Yeah, it's different now. And even when I think about it, you think about the international players in its totality catching up to the U.S. in general. But when you look at it, the U.S. players are so deep. They're starting five. Their bench is great. I think when you look at it, the U.S. players are so deep. They're starting five. The bench is great. I think when you look at the international teams, they have one or two players that are very good, obviously some prominent players that are in the NBA as well. But I don't
Starting point is 00:16:34 think they have enough meat and potatoes to compete as long as the U.S. players are playing to their full potential. Each player individually and they're playing as a team. And once the chemistry, once the chemistry hits, and everybody's hitting on the same cylinder, I don't think, even with the improvement of the international teams, I don't think they stand a chance. Oh, Joe, but you've got to realize. I just don't.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I'm just being honest. On the international level, they can work. Now, there might be some times where the games would be good. Yeah. They'll be close. Now, if we can eliminate those turnovers, but if we're playing efficient efficient up and down the court oh they ain't doing no joke these guys been playing together all their life yeah you right i mean i
Starting point is 00:17:11 imagine you take a a team of all-star let's take you take not granted it's different in football because we've been playing it and really no other country really plays it like we play it right but if you put if you put an all-star team together and you put it against a team that have been playing they like hold on they know they know everything yeah so these teams they've been playing 10 12 years together they play all the time every international competition they send the same group of guys for the last decade plus so it's hard to try to put lebron and kd and steph yes we know what they are individually but they need to harness some of the individuality and play as a team as a team yeah yeah most definitely i think that's i think that is something that they're they at doing. To me, I don't think we really have any me, me, me type players that are on the team. I think they play extremely well. They all is on point, if you get that chemistry early, I think they're going to be fine. And just just just picturing picturing them losing.
Starting point is 00:18:30 It doesn't even seem right, despite the international teams having quality players as well. Some of them being the best here in the States when we are in season, when we are in NBA season. I just don't see Team USA losing unless, God forbid, everybody just has a horrible game. Don Staley, a member of the United States Women's National Selection Committee, was asked about Kaitlyn Clark today. And she said if we had to do all over
Starting point is 00:18:56 again, the way that she's playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she's playing head and shoulders above a lot of people. I thought the job of a coach is to project. Also, if I take a player
Starting point is 00:19:12 in high school, am I saying that's the best he's going to be or I'm projecting in a week, a month, a year they're going to be better. Yes, sir. I said it at the time she has a u a elite skill of passing the ball yes now she's averaging 17 and 8 could i see once she gets up gets up
Starting point is 00:19:37 another year or two under her belt and she understands the physicality as she's starting to grow. Could I see her averaging another, say, five, seven points and to bump that up to 22 to 24 game while still averaging eight to 10 assists? Yes. Yes. She's that good, Ocho. She's that good. Angel Reese. Because, see, it's different.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Ocho, it's different. The women's game and the men's game are different I don't believe that could be wrong but I don't believe there's 68 69 70 international women playing in the WNBA there aren't any Lauren Jackson and I know you don't remember
Starting point is 00:20:17 Lauren Jackson but she's a three time NBA she's an Australian but she was legit she's a three time MVP she won the title they're not those in the wmb there's not those on the international level so caitlyn clark going or angel reese going where they gonna lose we got the 10 we got the 10 best players in in the olympics on the women's side we don't have the 10 best players on the men's side. But you have Nicola Jokic.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Because you have Giannis. They speak for themselves. But I'm a little surprised that she said that. Yeah. I mean, listen, what she's doing. What we know from Dawn Staley is she's going to give it to you raw. Pause. She's going to tell you how she feels.
Starting point is 00:21:03 She's going to say some of the things that most people won't say. Whether it causes, whether it ruffles some feathers or not. That's how she feels. She watched Kaitlyn Carr play in college. She's watched her mature and get better as a basketball player throughout the tenure
Starting point is 00:21:18 of her short WNBA career so far. So that's how she feels because she knows what she's seeing and she understood when they asked her a long time ago on how good she was and how great she was when she stood after a game and applauded Caitlyn, you know, on how she played and what she's done for the game in general. She can see that some of the things, some people don't want to see it. Some people don't want to say it right and miss dawn staley understands what not only would she bring to the game as a player but what she could have done if she was on that that
Starting point is 00:21:49 usa team as well look at what they did wouldn't they didn't they sign a what a 10-year bill a 10 year 200 uh 2.2 billion dollar deal yeah yeah with the potential to be three billion look at the sales and the jersey the merchandise the jersey sales right with caitlin clark and angel reese hey look at that you know what my brother always my brother tells me all the time ocho and this one of the things that he shared with me he says there's no telling how good you can be as long as you don't mind who gets the credit. He tells me that. That's one of the things that he tells me all the time. He says, you don't know how good you can be if you don't care who gets the credit.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Yeah, I like that. Man, why I care? Oh, now all they're doing is talking about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Oh, you mean to tell me Rookie's about to make $200,000 a year? Hey, Kaitlyn, how you doing, girl? I love me some Kaitlyn. Hey, Angel,
Starting point is 00:22:55 Bayou Barbie, Chi-Town Barbie, whatever you want to be known as. Hold on. Get that to me one more time. Get that to me one more time. You don't realize how good you can be as long as you don't care who gets the credit yes I'm sure gonna use that
Starting point is 00:23:10 I'm gonna use that with a kid you look at the teams and it doesn't matter who gets the credit cause eventually if you start caring about who gets the credit what's gonna happen Ojo it's gonna break up it's gonna break up. It's going to break
Starting point is 00:23:26 up, Ocho. What happened to the Patriots? They had a 20-year run. What happened, Ocho? Shaq and Kobe dominate. What happened, Ocho? You're right. It happens all the time. I say it all the time. One of
Starting point is 00:23:42 my favorites saying is always focus on your plate. Always focus on your plate. Always focus on your plate. Don't worry about what's on anybody else's plate. I can't eat that what's on your plate. I got to eat what's on mine. You sure, okay? You sure, okay?
Starting point is 00:24:02 Kaitlyn Clark already has more career assists than 75.4% of all the players in the WNBA history. And she's only played 26 games. Who's going to be surprised, don't you? When she hangs her, her shorts and a Jersey and sneakers up that she's not the all time assist leader in WNBA history. I don't think anybody's going to be surprised by that. No,
Starting point is 00:24:20 I'm going to be more surprised if she isn't, but I'm going to be that if, then if she is right watching her. And I know I know it's an all star game because you got an elite level. And she is playing with Aaliyah Boston, who is a reigning rookie of the year. She's an all star. And she can run the floor. And Caitlin sees her every time. Now, when you play with all stars, you got a lot of number one draft picks, the top five pick, and
Starting point is 00:24:46 she picking them. She just fighting them with the ball. But if you get open, she gonna hit you. She gonna see you. Oh, yeah, man. She gonna see you. Oh, yeah. Every time. Every time. Listen, that's a gift. That's a gift. That's a gift that Magic Johnson had as well. That's a gift that LeBron possesses as well.
Starting point is 00:25:02 Yes. You know, he's an elite passer. he sees things before they even happen yep yep but good luck the women i look the women look oh joe we got asia asia's by far the best player in the wmba yeah she's far then you got stewie who's next I mean we got the best players we do we do I believe if we sent the WNBA all stars just those women
Starting point is 00:25:34 that made the all star team I still believe we win the gold medal yeah most definitely either way you take it you send the all stars you send team WNBA. Yeah. I think you would still get the same outcome. We'd be coming home with gold no matter what, because we are just that good.
Starting point is 00:25:51 I don't want to say dominant. We're just that good in general across the board. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content,
Starting point is 00:26:37 the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front-row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive
Starting point is 00:27:14 scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask...
Starting point is 00:27:30 I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In U.S. swimming, Leland Marchand says the new Olympic record takes gold in the 400-meter IM, the 22-year-old Frenchman, trained by Michael Phelps coach Bob Bowerman, went 402.95 to set an Olympic record, breaking the one set by Michael Phelps in the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He was ahead of world record pace, but slowed a bit down the home stretch.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Marchand earns the first Olympic gold medal of his career. And if I'm not mistaken, it was the first gold medal for France in the Paris Olympics, correct? Japanese Mashuta took silver. American Carson Foster took the bronze. We, America,
Starting point is 00:29:00 we got with one, two gold silver. American Tori Husky won her first Olympic gold medal in dramatic fashion, beating Lodi Field, including world record holder and 100 meter butterfly Gretchen Walsh, her teammate. Gretchen Walsh. Husk touched the wall 55.59. She held off Gretchen Walsh who touched.04 seconds later. Yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Hey, listen, something about that water, man. Something about that water. Obviously, I mean, I'm not sure if y'all had swimming. I don't think y'all had swimming pools where you were growing up. Yeah, we had pools. Come on. You know how to swim? Be honest. Don't lie to me be honest yes yeah okay like michael philips oh not see yeah let me tell you something let me tell you something
Starting point is 00:29:56 out here in liberty city we have a park called charles hadley pool during the summer we all went to the pool i used to dive off that off the off the high dive i can swim i could do the hundred breaststroke butterfly i could i could swim backwards now there was a time there was a time and point where i was the inner city state champ at libya at charles hadley pool on how well i swam i was like a dolphin i mean i was kind of hard to swim like a dog you do realize like the inner city, you can't be the state champ. If you just deal with the city.
Starting point is 00:30:29 I'm just saying that's what we call it. That's what we called it. We call it as we grew up. I grew up swimming in rivers and in ponds. Oh, Joe. See, that ain't,
Starting point is 00:30:36 that ain't no swimming. That ain't, that ain't no swimming. That, that, that ain't a swimming. A river, a river and pond.
Starting point is 00:30:43 Yes. There ain't no ladder. There ain't no side. You get your ass out there in the middle. Oh, that you could... So you know how to swim? Yes. Long story short, yes, I can swim, Ocho. Okay, do me a favor. Do me a favor. On tour, while we
Starting point is 00:31:00 on tour, whether it be Atlanta, whether it be Dallas, whether it be Houston, let's race. 100 meters, 50 meters, whatever you want to do. Because all the places you're going to are going to have an Olympic sized swimming pool, so let's do it for the chat. Me and you race. Ocho, I don't
Starting point is 00:31:15 swim like that, but I can swim. Okay, okay, okay. Could I swim and get somebody else? Yes. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I I save myself? Yes. Could I swim and get somebody else? Yes. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Okay. I just want to... You know what they used to call me back then? What did they call you, Drew? Boy, in 1987, boy, they called me Flipper. I tell you no lie. They used to call me Flipper because I swam like an orphan. Because you had big-ass feet?
Starting point is 00:31:41 No, I had no big feet. I don't weigh nothing but a size 11. But I could swim with the best of them. Swim with the best of them. Listen, I ain't had no big feet. I don't wear nothing but a size 11, but I can swim with the best of them. Swim with the best of them. Listen, inner city champ, Charles Hadley Poole, ask anybody. Anybody in the chat from Miami, anybody in the chat right now from Liberty City, tell them about
Starting point is 00:31:55 me. Tell them about a legend. I'm a legend in the pool. I'll tell you what I could do. What? I probably could drown you, though. Oh, no. You can't drown me no You can't drown me Listen What you gonna do Ocho If I get my hands on you out there to deep
Starting point is 00:32:11 But you little All I have to do is continue to relax I can stay underwater by four minutes Okay four minutes I'm telling you I have the lungs of a hippo Okay I got the lungs of a hippo I'm telling you, I had the lungs of a hippo. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I got the lungs of a hippo, I'm telling you. It was one time, right? You know, Rell, Rell, paratrooper. Yeah. You know, she was in the Army, right? Yeah. And I had the opportunity to go train with the Navy SEALs for two weeks. And I went through the boot camp.
Starting point is 00:32:40 What Navy SEALs train at, Ocho? Huh? What Navy SEALs train at? I was in Parris Island. That's where the Marines train. Yeah. The Navy SEALs train at, Ocho? Where did the Navy Seals train at? I was in Parris Island. That's where the Marines train. Yeah. The Navy Seals train at Coronado Beach. Now, you see, I couldn't go to the beach because all the Seals was there.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Now, the Seals had migrated and they took up the beach. They took up the beach. Okay. Oh, you're talking about those Seals. Oh, you're talking about the first Seals. Not the Navy Seals. I'm talking about like Seal Seals. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, Oh, you're talking about the first seals. Not the Navy Seals. I'm talking about, like, seal seals. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Hey, listen, I do a little bit of everything. Yeah, Parris Island. I know about Parris Island because that's what I got to say. Yeah, yeah. The Sand Nats. They don't play. Oh, they don't play. The Sand Nats tear you up.
Starting point is 00:33:17 And Savannah. Anybody from that area, y'all know how bad the Sand Nats get over there. They tear your butt up. And if you're not used to them, they're going to make you wept like okra. You know, if okra touch your skin, like when you clip okra, cut okra, cut okra. Yeah. We have to wear long sleeves because they make you rope. I mean, it leave wept on you.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Anybody in the trap that's ever from the South or cut okra? Never mind. nevermind and also the men anchored by Caleb Dressel won the 4x100m freestyle relay yesterday we beat Australia and I think Italy was second yeah I think
Starting point is 00:33:58 Italy was second right no no no Italy was third I think Australia was Italy second? No Australia was, no. Italy was third. I think Australia. Was Italy second? No, Australia was. Great Britain was. Who was second?
Starting point is 00:34:10 Italy? Well, Asher's looking that up. The U.S. women national team beat the brakes off of Germany. The U.S. national team of a summer goal is gone. The current group has found their scoring shoes again. At the women's world cup the u.s women's national team scored four goals in 390 minutes and was eliminated on penalties in the round of 16 by sweden today they scored four goals the first to do so against germany in competitive match since 2008 yeah we put something on them yeah yeah we did matter of fact not only did we put
Starting point is 00:34:44 something on them while they had their strive while did. Matter of fact, not only did we put something on them, while they had their stride, while they're back in stride, it would be perfect. It would be perfect. I mean, we have the perfect platform for them. They can talk to us about their first match against Germany. We got to invite them on.
Starting point is 00:34:59 We got to invite them on nightcap. I know there's a time difference, but we could pre-record it. Ladies, if y'all see this, we beg of you. All all of you, you know, my love and my passion for soccer. I'm a soccer enthusiast. If you would please at some point join us while you guys are in Paris. We so much really enjoy that. As with our chat and followers. Yeah, the Americans were first followed by Australia. Italy was third. Ocho, that three-headed monster of Dennis Rodman, Darda Swanson, and Smith, they did a number.
Starting point is 00:35:36 The U.S. can clinch a spot in the knockout round stage in a prime position to finish atop of Group B against Australia. They played the Aussies on Wednesday. Today, the women's gymnastic qualifiers, U.S. finished five points clear. Five! Everyone else in the end of the... Simone Biles, all-around vault, beam, floor. Jay carried the vault, Jordan Childs, floor.
Starting point is 00:35:58 Suni Lee, all-around beam and bar. Simone Biles did not let an injury scare... did not let an injury scare slow her down on a long way to return to Olympic competition she posted a superb all around total of 59.566 in front of a star studded crowd at Bercy Arena
Starting point is 00:36:15 plenty of celebs were in attendance Tom Cruise, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande turned out as did Anna Wintour the long serving editor of Vogue magazine. Yeah. Listen, the fact that Simone Biles can be,
Starting point is 00:36:31 can be injured and not allow that to get in the way of her routine and still perform flawless says everything you need to know about her. She can do things that they, Ocho, I mean, the move that she does, she got, she's competing and they got moves named after her. Imagine Ocho.
Starting point is 00:36:51 You playing and they got, oh, that's an Ocho. Hey, they're doing an Ocho. Oh, as similar as there's only one person I can think of that has something named after him while he was playing, long after he's gone, because anytime they hit you with this you got most yes yeah yeah so he got so she got
Starting point is 00:37:12 like six moves named after her and as a matter of fact i think somebody did one of her moves today and it's the first time someone has done a move one of her moves in competition and they were able to execute it the funny thing about it her moves are difficult. And they were able to execute it. The funny thing about it, her moves are difficult. So when someone gives you names of a certain move, it lets you know how difficult that move is to do. Matter of fact, remember the movie Back to School?
Starting point is 00:37:35 Yeah. Is it Back to School or Rodney Dangerfield? Who? Rodney Dangerfield. You remember that? I think it's Back to School, is it? Rodney Dangerfield. Yeah, I think it's back to school is it Rodney Dangerfield yeah I was watching Back to the Future yesterday with oh you remember there was a move that
Starting point is 00:37:52 Rodney Dangerfield did that nobody had ever attempted called the triple lindy you probably I mean some people in the chat might know about it but yeah listen I need me a move named after me is it too late now Ocho But, oh, yeah, listen. I need me a move named after me. It ain't too late now, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Oh, it ain't ever too late. I'm in shape. Oh, yeah, you know. I'm in shape. Hey, I got a couple. I'm in shape. Trampolining. You know, I got a trampoline, Ocho. You already know.
Starting point is 00:38:17 They named that after Ocho. Trampoline. Pogo. That's me. Yeah. Hell, no. When I get the bed, I get... Hey, when they see me in that LV trunk,
Starting point is 00:38:32 fill up them planes, don't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. I told you, you don't need that LV trunk. You talk about $185,000 trunk, and I tell you, I got a dude out of the city. He can get you the same thing. Same one? He can wrap it with Louis Vuitton, and got a dude out of the city. He can get you the same thing. Same one?
Starting point is 00:38:45 He can wrap it with Louis Vuitton and nobody be able to tell the difference. Is that Brazilian wandering spider in there? Hey, my dog Tutu can get that for you now. Hey, my dog Tutu can get that for you. I don't want him to bite me on the neck. Don't bite me on the neck. Oh, no, no,
Starting point is 00:39:01 no, no, no. We already got the venom. We already extracted the venom out of the spider so you ain't got to deal with the bite. Oh, I ain't got to deal with that? No, you ain't got to deal on the neck. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. We already got the venom. We already extracted the venom out of the spider, so you ain't got to deal with the bite. Oh, I ain't got to deal with that? No, you ain't got to deal with the bite. You ain't got to deal. See, we get ours from the black market. I don't know, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:39:14 You got to be careful with that black market. You know, they be adding fentanyl and everything. I don't know, Ocho. I think I might take my chance with the spider. Bad please. Man, you can't drop people down on the black market
Starting point is 00:39:35 as you do, man. Yeah. Man, they cut that thing with everything, man. Nah, I'm good, good. You know, the black market is like, it's so strict and it has to go through so many guidelines that nothing is passed to the black market unless it's authentic. It's like when you're selling shoes.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Yeah, it's authentic. They got to go through appraisal to make sure they're real. You're getting a real drug. Yeah, it's exactly. But they adding that thing. Man, Fenton, all of what they give elephants to put them to sleep if it'll put it if it if you a little bit of put an elephant to sleep for 10-15 minutes what the hell is gonna do to a human a elephant is five what four or five tons yeah yeah i i could imagine and and you know what that's something that we don't have to worry about and obviously with this
Starting point is 00:40:21 product that we're speaking on you know that wandering spider venom yeah it all does nothing it that it doesn't coincide now we know what fentanyl is is is found in yeah and that ain't what we on we ain't on that so we good we good now i'm saying i'm like the spider you know that spider for a while with ocho they tell my aunt that gonna be painful you might that too ocho that's too long ocho that's too that's that's that tell my uncle that's going to be painful you might think Ocho that's too long that's too long that's not even humanly possible do you think you think you're going to live forever
Starting point is 00:40:53 no I ain't going to live forever but I sure don't want to do nothing for no god damn four hours I mean you know what I'm saying they won't be able to close the casket they ain't keep that thing open basket. That ain't cute. That thing open. Y'all have to look at my face the whole while. Yeah, now. Hell
Starting point is 00:41:15 no. But the stars came out to see Simone Biles, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise, Ariana Grande, and Anna Winterintour, the editor of Vogue. The French women's gymnastic team failed to qualify for the finals. The expectations were high after last year's bronze medal at the World Championship, where the French won for the first team medal
Starting point is 00:41:38 since 1950. But the French crumbled under the pressure. Melania de Jesus Dos Santos, the face of the French crumbled under the pressure. Melania de Jesus Dos Santos, the face of the French women's program, also failed to qualify for the individual all around. That's a lot of pressure, Ocho. I mean, you on home soil? A lot.
Starting point is 00:41:57 With the expectations? You did something in the world that you hadn't done in 70 plus years. And now we're on home soil we're gonna be the crowd is buzzing it's electric and they succumb to the pressure man yeah i listen i could i can i can imagine i understand what they went through and chat i just just just to give you an honest truth an authentic truth simple football game on sunday before kickoff. My nerves was bad. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:25 The butterflies in my stomach. Regardless of how confident I may have walked out the tunnel, regardless of how confident I may have been throughout the week, throughout the, you know, on media day, talking trash to the opponent. Before kickoff, I was nervous. Oh, yeah. Before kickoff, I had butterflies. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:44 I'm not going to say scared, but just imagine representing your country at the Olympics and the rest of the world is watching. Yeah. Man. Oh, I went to the bathroom. I went to the bathroom probably about six, seven times. For real? Yeah. Before kickoff?
Starting point is 00:43:04 My stomach, man man it didn't matter Ocho and then here's the thing we had them guys man Ocho you know them guys be throwing up like Tommy like Marks LaRev and you know it's a reflex you hear somebody man stick man you hear them it be quiet in there cause you know
Starting point is 00:43:19 everybody getting ready we're probably like 10 minutes before the game so now everything is really hard and all you hear in the bathroom throwing up come on man so now you're like come on man
Starting point is 00:43:38 y'all gotta do this every game I played with a guy I forget his name Darren Drozdoff. He ended up breaking his neck. He was a wrestler, but he could throw up on command.
Starting point is 00:43:54 On command? He was in the game and when we wanted to call a timeout and the ref, he just threw up on the center's hand. On purpose. He was a nose guard. He just threw up on the center's hand oh on purpose he was a nose guard he just threw up right right threw up on the center's hand but anytime you could just be walking down having a conversation they're like draw throw up and he could throw up just like that just just like you
Starting point is 00:44:16 like spit water out of something he can throw up just like that he he was a big boy huh yeah yeah okay okay okay i like come like, come on, man. That's crazy. But yeah, Ocho, my nerves were bad. Always. Always. Yeah. And they always used to say, whenever you know it's time to retire,
Starting point is 00:44:37 when you get ready to play a game and that feeling is no longer there. That means your love for the game is gone. I still love Ocho. I just couldn't do the game is gone. I still love Ocho. I just couldn't do the meetings no more. I ain't gonna lie. And that's still my biggest thing.
Starting point is 00:44:49 They'll tell you now. Hey, Ash, I don't do the meetings. It means the hell, bro. Ash does all my meetings. Right. Unless it's absolutely like,
Starting point is 00:44:58 obviously, when we start talking X's and this and that and what we need to do. Right, right, right. I get it. But other than that? Yeah. Nah, y'all ain't fin I get it. But other than that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Nah, y'all ain't finna talk me to death with these boring ass meetings. Yeah. And it'd be the same thing. I start doodling. I'm thinking about everything. I'm like, look at around. Like, Mr. Sharma, is everything okay? No.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Everything is okay. It is not okay. No, I'm not okay. The meetings be long. Listen, NFL meetings, they have meetings about the meeting and they meeting just to meet at times
Starting point is 00:45:27 yes some stuff just be just to take up the time just to take up the time to make sure they stay on a schedule bro I'm like bro we just went over this
Starting point is 00:45:36 okay you leave okay Mike has his meeting okay we have an offensive meeting and then we go in and break up
Starting point is 00:45:43 we got a tight end meeting to go over what we just went over in that. Went over again. I'm like, come on, man. All these damn meetings. Yeah. Yeah. That's why I say they have a meeting about a meeting.
Starting point is 00:45:54 That age. Those were the good days. Man, I'm glad when I started getting older and Mike was like 84, you ain't got to come to this. Or 84, hey, just be out there like the second or third period where I didn't have to practice but once. And he's like, get your lift in, so forth and so on. Get your cardio in.
Starting point is 00:46:14 I said, Mike, hey, I can give you a couple more years. I can give you a couple more years. And they really don't trip as long as you know your shit. If you know your shit and you don't make no mistakes, oh, you good. Man, I done been in the West Coast so long. I had been in the West Coast so long. You could do it blindfolded. Yes!
Starting point is 00:46:31 You could do it blindfolded. Man, I be in there. Those were the days, Ocho. Those were the days. Oh, yeah. Alana Mar. Hold on. Alana Mar helped the U.S. women's rugby team
Starting point is 00:46:43 to a pair of wins in Pool C action today. The U.S. defeated Japan 36-7 and Brazil 24-5. The U.S. played France on Monday before a starting quarterfinal play. Those rugby players are different. I saw one of them arm wrestling Jason Kelsey. He had to go to beat him. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know what the women do. But they to go to beat her. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:06 The women tough. They strong now. Anybody playing rugby or sport like that with no pads, no covering, no helmet, no face mask, you built differently mentally. Hell yeah. You built differently mentally.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Yeah, I'd be good because I ain't trying to go in the middle. Hey, y'all just passed me the ball on the side. On the side? Yeah. Hey, were y' the middle. Hey, y'all just passed me the ball on the side. On the side? Yeah, hey. Hey, we all in there. We all lateral to him. And he lateral. And then y'all lateral to me on the side because I'm hitting that
Starting point is 00:47:34 sideline. I'm gone. I ain't trying to run in the middle. And they playing full speed now. No helmets, no nothing. Full speed. Yeah. All that tackling. That's what i used to be a running back i played running back up until i was a senior well until you got to devana state no i was a senior in high school man okay okay oh joe you know what i got i get back to the hotel my bad
Starting point is 00:47:58 shot the dude hit me in the backfield my bad shot, Shark. No, I said, you know what? Ocho, we've been spring practice. My senior year. Got the ball. We ran the beer. I was a fullback. Right. Dude, we'll... I said, that's it.
Starting point is 00:48:15 I'm moving the tight end. That was it. That was it. That's all she wrote? Man, I'm tired of that, Ocho. Man, I'm tired. My bad, Shark. Man, who did that?
Starting point is 00:48:22 Man, that's me, Shark. I get it. Next time. Next time. Dude, I'm in the backfield. Man, dude spit me around. Dude hit me in the butt with his helmet. Hit me in my back. I said, nah, I'm done. I went to tight end and they look back.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Kose, hey, Kose, you got a chance to get a scholarship at the running back. I said, I can get a scholarship at tight end, too. They give a tight end scholarship. I'm done. I'm done I can give a scholarship at tight end too. They give a tight end scholarship. I'm done. I'm done. I was done with that, Ocho. I don't like that running back. Only reason I played running back anyway, my brother played running back. No, I wasn't really.
Starting point is 00:48:54 That was... Ocho, check this out. How much are individual gold medals worth in each country by territory? If you win a gold medal for Hong Kong, they'll give you $768,000. Wait, that should pay out for winning gold?
Starting point is 00:49:11 If you win a gold medal. As you can see it on the screen, Ocho. Israel, 275, Serbia, 218, Malaysia, 214. All the way down. Look at that. Even Spain has 100,000. The U.S.
Starting point is 00:49:27 Wait, we only get 37,000? We ought to be ashamed, I feel. Wait a minute. That means the sponsors, the sponsors, depending on who you represent or who you're endorsed by, they pay more than the U.S. does for winning gold.
Starting point is 00:49:43 If anything, we should be at the top. We should be right behind Hong Kong. At least 200,000. We should be right behind Hong Kong. At least a quarter of a meal, Ocho. They need to do something about that. Come on now. That don't make no sense, man.
Starting point is 00:49:56 I mean, look at all these countries. Hey, Estonia, 100 grand. Kosovo. Ukraine, 125. Kosovo been fighting for the last 30 years, and they can somehow scrum it up $30,000. $120,000. Ukraine. How you Ukraine?
Starting point is 00:50:13 Ukraine been at war for the last two years, and they'll pay their athletes $125,000. Man, that's crazy. I'm not sure what the Olympic Committee is doing. But somebody, they need to strike. They need to strike. The only way to get that money up. $37,000?
Starting point is 00:50:29 Like our teachers. Our teachers make $37,000. And the athletes representing our country are only getting that. I thought it was $75,000. I didn't know it was that much. $37,000? Come on now. Come on now, Olympic Committee.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Come on now. Y'all got to do right. You got to do right by athletes now. Come on now. Hong Kong, almost a million dollars. Almost. Almost. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:51:00 How about this, Ocho? Yeah. Hey, Noah Lau. If you win the 100-meter, if you win the 100-meter gold, me and Ocho, $25,000 apiece. Bet.
Starting point is 00:51:13 I know, Noah, I know you're going to see this and you know I don't like to spend no money because that don't make no sense. I didn't even know that. If you win gold, if you win that 100 on top of your $37,500
Starting point is 00:51:23 that the U.S US is going to give you me and Unk, 25,000 apiece. You too, Sha'Carri. Miss Richardson, sis, you know how I feel about you. I love you. You get that 100 on top
Starting point is 00:51:40 of your 37.5, you got another 25 and 25 coming from me and Unk. Come on now. Yeah. Hey, Rod. Nephew, hey, Rod. You win the gold, 25,000.
Starting point is 00:51:53 I tell you no lie. I lie for you before I lie to you. That don't make no sense. That don't make no sense for it to be that goddamn. That's embarrassing. I'm embarrassed. My bad. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:52:04 37,000. All the work they've been putting in. All the work they've been putting in the past four years and you go represent your country and you walk away with 37,000 and Hong Kong giving away almost a million to anybody that wins gold. Noah Lyles trained four years for nine seconds.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Rob Benjamin trained four years for 46 seconds and you mean to tell me after all that 37,000 that's what they're going to do with that America the beautiful
Starting point is 00:52:37 we got you we got to do something about that Noah we got you Shaquiri we got you oh and what you call a Sid that. Noah, we got you. Shaquiri, we got you. Oh, and what you call them? Hey, Sid. Oh, Sid. Well, hey, Sid running the
Starting point is 00:52:52 hurdles. Is she running the open fold? No, she's going to be on the relay. She's going to run the 4x4 relay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah. Okay. Well, you might as well mail Sid her check now. You might as well mail see her check now. You might as well mail see her check now.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Come on now. We got to put money aside. That's already what? How much is that we already put aside? How much is that, Ash? That's 100K? We already put 100K. Okay, I got it saved up. That's fine. I got that right here in the safe. We good.
Starting point is 00:53:26 We good. $37,000. Yeah. Come on, man. Come on, UL. Come on, Olympic Committee. Come on now. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:53:35 We got all this money to send everywhere else. Yes. Dibbling and dabbling in everybody else's business, giving everybody else billions and billions of dollars, but we ain't got no money to come on now. Hey, they better never let me be president. When I go,
Starting point is 00:53:53 hey, break a world record, get a million dollars. When gold, when gold, $500,000, $250,000 for silver, $150,000, $100,000 for bronze. Matter of fact, when I think about it, 100,000 for bronze. Matter of fact, when I think about it, I think about the U.S.
Starting point is 00:54:08 We are the big bad U.S.A. So, obviously, we want to be on top of everything. But you win gold, I'm giving you a million. You get a million for gold off rep. You got to give them a million for a world record. I want to be happy. I want to be
Starting point is 00:54:24 proud, not only to represent our country I want to be happy. I want to be proud not only to do to represent our country but to be paid well for doing so and winning for all the work you put in for the past four years.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Yeah, we got to see it. So, damn. That's 100,000? You good? You good? Hey, listen. I'm trying to say who we going to pay?
Starting point is 00:54:45 You know the funny thing about it? I just left I just... Who we gonna pay? You know the funny thing about it? I just left... I just left Cleveland yesterday. I just left Cleveland yesterday doing a signing. Oh, some great dudes was there, man. I saw Troy Palamalu, Roy Jones, Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson.
Starting point is 00:55:01 I just did a whole... My signing yesterday, I just made 100K yesterday. See? So, that's... Yeah. We good. We good. Johnson. I just did a whole sign yesterday. I just made 100K yesterday. We good. We good. I got it.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Noah, Shaqiri, we got you. Like 37,000. Did you know that? 100,000. Guess what? I'll pay 50,000 in America to break a world record. I don't give a damn what the VIN is. Steeplechase,
Starting point is 00:55:29 50-hundred-meter shot put, discus, I don't care. Yeah. I like it. I like it. Out of my pocket. I like it. 37,000.
Starting point is 00:55:44 Come on, man. I've been working my ass off the past four years. What the hell? I mean, by the time you pay your coach. Your trainer. And everybody don't have sponsors like C. Everybody ain't got a sponsor like Sha'Carri. Everybody don't have sponsors like Noah Lyles.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Everybody ain't got it like that. Some of these people living like working at Home Depot and Ace Hardware. And I understand like sometimes these companies, they pitch in, but damn. Come on now. Come on, America. Olympic Committee.
Starting point is 00:56:19 I'm not sure. I don't even know the name of who runs the committee or whoever the president of the Olympic Committee is. That don't make no sense. I had no idea it was that low. I didn't either. Hey, what you think? Well, hold on. What you think they make at the Pro Bowl? You win the Pro Bowl. Man, they're 100 million.
Starting point is 00:56:38 It's 100,000, I think, now. At the Pro Bowl? Yeah. And they out there playing around. What you mean to tell me you're getting 37,000 for representing your country with the whole world watching? Man, I first went to the Pro Bowl. We got $10,000 for the winners and $5,000 to the losers. And you know what it costs. Ocho, you know what it costs if you take your family.
Starting point is 00:56:58 Oh, yeah. You in the hole. Hey, that whole check going to reimburse everything you pay for. It was $250 for a hotel room. Remember, you got over there Sunday. Yeah. If you weren't in the Super Bowl. Huh? Right.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Y'all stayed at the Iolani? I was the first one to stay. At first, we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. That was where they used to stay. Oh, that's where everybody could see you and stuff. And then they moved us to the Iolani. Yeah. And the room, and I ended up taking, I took my coach and his wife.
Starting point is 00:57:26 I took my offensive coordinator. I took my position coach and his wife, Les Steckle, and his wife, Chris. I took BP and Steph. I took Wade Harmon. So I took, I flew them over, hooked them up. Everything was on me.
Starting point is 00:57:44 My sister had done gone. My sister was like, I don't want to go. My sister said, I'm done twice. That was it. She didn't want to go. She didn't want to go no more. So basically it was just like, okay, I bring my position coaching. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:57:52 Cause I, cause I, I appreciated them working with me, pushing me, even like, even, you know, coaching me hard, letting me know what I was doing well. And I was like, okay, I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:58:00 I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I'm going to go. I appreciated them working with me, pushing me, even like, even, you know, coaching me hard, letting me know what I was doing well, what I didn't do well. My first Pro Bowl, Ocho, was 93. And I was the first team all pro.
Starting point is 00:58:17 I bought the offensive line with Rolexes. Because I believe when they call a play and 7L and John would say, hey T, I'm coming. I believe they blocked a little harder for me. Matter of fact, you see the motivation you just said? You see the motivation?
Starting point is 00:58:39 Talk to the chat. Give me two seconds. Hold on. Maybe Shaqiri and Noah and Sid, they're going to see this. You know they're going to see this, right? Before it's me two seconds. Hold on. Maybe Shaqiri, you know Shaqiri and Noah, you know, and Sid, they're going to see this. You know they're going to see this, right? They're going to see it. Before it's time to run. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Hold on. We got something for them. You know, hey, you know I got my nephew, Rod Benjamin. I love Rod. I've been, hey, I know he can do this. I know Carson Warhol. Right? You can make the argument he's the greatest 400-meter hurdle, the world champion, the
Starting point is 00:59:04 world record holder, going on the 46, trying to be a repeat champ, but I believe Rock can do it. So I'm going to put my money where my mouth is. Rock, 25K, world record, another one. We're going to make this right. I want y'all to be looking nice. Floss, I don't know what you're going to make this right. I want y'all to be looking nice. Bloss. I don't know what you're going to do, man.
Starting point is 00:59:31 Yeah. Of course. Look, I'm a firm believer. You know, hey, I did right. The training staff, everybody, hey, we went around to collect the money. They got a nice little bonus. The equipment staff, everybody. Hey, we went around to collect the money. They got a nice little bonus. The equipment guys, the video guys,
Starting point is 00:59:50 the equipment guys. Oh, we broke them off. I made sure they were taken care of, man. That's what you're supposed to do. Listen. Sid, Noah, Shaquiri. I know y'all going to see this, right? I know y'all gonna see this, right? I know y'all gonna see this.
Starting point is 01:00:08 I got 50. Here go 50,000 right here. That's for the world record. Let's see if I'm not even playing. Here go 50,000 right here. Yep. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company.
Starting point is 01:00:20 The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content,
Starting point is 01:00:55 the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide, and hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second.
Starting point is 01:01:47 I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 01:11:06 Latonia Latvia yes so right next to Moscow Poland right there too see listen I told you
Starting point is 01:11:21 I took geography geography 300 man at Yale. I'll never forget. 2002. Yeah, 2002. During the offseason. I was trying to get my master's. What about Malaysia?

That Yale Harvard education, boy. That goddamn geography, man. I was trying to get my master's in world travel. I already know, Ocho.
Starting point is 01:14:18 Yeah, I was trying to get my master's in world travel. You talking about a Rhodes Scholar. This man can't read a road map. Man, Ocho, did you see what they carried the athletes' medals out on? No. What? What? The baton. LV. Well, listen. Hold on. Now, they're in Paris.
Starting point is 01:14:36 It's only right. You know what? It's only right. Whatever you bring the athletes' medal out on, you give them the trade that it's on. Let them have a little food and beer. Let them have the tray too? Yeah. Well, you think they did?
Starting point is 01:14:49 Maybe they did. Because there's no need. If the metals come in the tray, what's the point of taking the tray back? Hey, that's a lot of trays, Louis Vuitton. Because there's 10,000 athletes. You probably got how many? I mean, what? You will probably give out at least what you say,
Starting point is 01:15:09 how many gold medals? A thousand? You will give out more than a thousand. Probably a thousand medals. Over 3,000 medals. Listen, Louis Vuitton has had the opportunity to prepare for this moment. Yes! For four years.
Starting point is 01:15:24 You're never, they're never going to be able to get a bigger Louis Vuitton has had the opportunity to prepare for this moment. Yes! For four years. You're never, they're never going to be on a, get a bigger commercial platform than what they got right here. Yeah, yeah, most definitely. And you got to think, an entity of this magnitude really doesn't need any more.
Starting point is 01:15:39 They don't need it. They don't need it. Yeah, yeah. Everybody know what that LV stands for, Ocho. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. do do right by the athletes though do right by the athletes uh flavor flay signed a five-year sponsorship deal as the official hype man for the u.s women's men's water polo team which was announced july 1st by the u.s water polo as part of the sponsorship flavor flay made financial contributions
Starting point is 01:16:06 to the women's water polo team for Paris Olympics. His duty as hype man includes multiple appearances and team events, including the 2024 Olympics. That's live. That's live. That's live. And the fact that Flavor Flav had to put money up
Starting point is 01:16:22 for all the water polo teams. We got companies worthos. We got companies worth trillions, not billions. Do you know how much money you got to have to get to a trillion? Oh, yeah. A million billion.
Starting point is 01:16:40 Listen, all of this should have been taken care of. Our country, everything should have been taken care of. Anyone in our country, everything should have been taken care of. A thousand billion. Everything should have been taken care of. It should have. I don't understand.
Starting point is 01:16:54 I don't understand. Hey, y'all need to hire us. Y'all need to put us up. Put us out there so we can go solicit some funds. Yeah. Boy, look here. solicit some funds. Yeah. Matter of fact, if you had to work in the Olympics, any job, what job would you assist
Starting point is 01:17:10 for in the Olympics? If you could. What you mean, assist? Yeah, assist. Like a job. You could be a gymnast, assistant for the gymnast. Like the towel boy.
Starting point is 01:17:27 The towel boy for volleyball. So what are you going to be? The coach or what? I'm assistant. What are you going to do? Let's go, ladies. Let's go. That's all I got. What the hell you want me to do? You know, I'm trying to think.
Starting point is 01:17:47 If I can have a job at the Olympics oh that's a good one you know I would love to be at the track and field event oh for sure like be the coach Otto Bolton I want to be next to Otto Bolton
Starting point is 01:18:00 yeah to be the coach and see that and give him that pep talk before the 100 before the 200 before the 400 before the 4x1. Yeah, I love to have that conversation. Maybe like the water boy for the U.S. men's national team.
Starting point is 01:18:16 Oh, basketball? Yeah, yeah. Be the water boy or something. I mean, to hear when Tom Hammond, I don't know. I forget the guy's name now, but Tom Hammond used to be the voice of track and field at the Olympics. And to hear him and Otto and Senior Richards Ross, McKay Lee Brown, they do an unbelievable job. Otto knows it backwards and forwards. And to hear them talk,
Starting point is 01:18:45 he's done going through it. He's like, I'm looking at this and I'm looking at that. I'm seeing the way he's running and I saw the block and this and that. I don't think there's three people in this field that's going to keep him off the podium. Man, I just, yeah, that would,
Starting point is 01:19:01 that would, that would, that would. I'll go, oh, I'll tell you what. If the Lord spared my life, I bet you I'd be at the track and field in LA in 28. Oh, yeah. Most definitely. I mean, it's right there around the corner. Yes, sir. I'm going to be there. Right there around the corner. I'm definitely going to be on a
Starting point is 01:19:18 flight from Miami. I'm going to take that five-hour flight. Matter of fact, you might want to book your hotel now years in advance because then you ain't going to book your hotel now, years in advance. Because then you ain't going to be able to find a way to stay. Oh, I'm going to find somebody to stay. Yeah, I'll place you to stay. I'll tell you what,
Starting point is 01:19:35 I'm going. I'm going to see track and field. I'm going to see some swimming. Obviously, I'm going to catch basketball, catch the men's team. I want to see the gymnastics. I want to see the gymnastics. I'm going to catch basketball, catch the men's team. I want to see the gymnastics. I want to see the gymnastics. I'm going to see the women. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:19:51 I can't be going way out, man, because, you know, a lot of them events, they're going to have to do out, like the shooting and... You know what? I want to see archery. Archery. Man, you see the way... Man, they fire that arrow.
Starting point is 01:20:06 And that bow be dangling. Mm-hmm. I bet archery, when it comes to shooting or any of the field events like that, I think you probably have to be quiet, too. Oh, yeah. You got to be quiet. Like when you play golf? Got to slow your heart rate down, Ocho.
Starting point is 01:20:21 You know, when I grew up in the South, they teach you to close your eye when you're shooting. Close one eye. But they keep both eyes open. They're like, why would you render 50% of your vision? You want to see all of it. So, you know, you always look down the barrel. You close one eye.
Starting point is 01:20:37 No, them don't have both eyes open. And they don't miss. Hey. That's crazy. You see, Bob, the cap catcher went viral today. His only job is to jump in the water, grab
Starting point is 01:20:54 swimmer swim caps that are falling off. Yeah. Hey, that's a good job. That's a good one. I wonder how much they pay Bob. I bet Bob might make more than $37,000. Hey, Bob had his viral moment. That's a good job, man. That's a good one. I wonder how much they pay Bob. They don't pay Bob nothing. I bet Bob might make more than $37,000. Hey, Bob had his viral moment. That's his pay.
Starting point is 01:21:11 That's his... Going viral, that's his pay. Man, Bob, shout out, man. Look at Bob. His stance is jumping the water. No kind of form. No technique. Yeah, but I'm going.
Starting point is 01:21:26 Oh, I'm going. Track and field. I'm going to see track and field. I'm going to see men's and women's basketball. I'm definitely going to see swimming. I say Jim, after Simone, they're going to be there. Yeah. Wait, wait a minute.
Starting point is 01:21:46 Now, you never know. You never know. I mean, at some point in time, she's probably going to want to start a family, Ocho. Yeah, yeah. I mean, that's a conversation that would be had. But she's not. How old is she? 27?
Starting point is 01:22:01 First of all, she's gone to three Olympics. Most women, especially, well, American women. Yeah, when do you stop? American women, they retire most first of all she's going to three olympics most women especially well american women yeah when do you stop american women they retire early you look at you look at mary lou retton you look at uh uh sean johnson you look at uh dominique mochiano you look at dominique dolls you look at uh uh gabby douglas you look at all them um uh not still lukens they're gone they were gone now this is the thing do they retire early because they want to or do they retire early because they can't deal with the injuries that they sustained throughout their career think about it ocho they've been doing they've been tumbling and flipping since they were three so you figure
Starting point is 01:22:41 at the age of 20 and the 21 because your best years are your teenage early 20s you look at Nadia when she did we got the perfect 10 I mean now a lot of the like the European and older I mean I saw a lady where was she from she might have been
Starting point is 01:23:00 that was her fifth Olympics she was 40 doing gymnastics so so that mean i mean at 31 i mean simone can still continue to dominate even at 31 if she's able to you know maintain her health but see the thing is but i think she can i think she can do it simone simone has has sponsors now you look at like the soviets when they had, you know, well, that was still, maybe that wasn't before the fall. Because they have Fetlana Korkina and Boginskaya. But I think she was Belarusian.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Maybe she was a Russian team. Right. But a lot of, like, those European women, like, they get a certain age. They're like, ah. Yeah. Eh. Yeah. But 31, I mean, it's not, look, there's not been a lot of
Starting point is 01:23:49 women in America. I don't know if there's any other, like I said, I was thinking of the great women, obviously Mary Lou, and you mentioned Gabby Douglas, and you mentioned Simone Biles, and you mentioned Dominique Dawes and Dominique Mochiano and Shawn Johnson, Naska Lukens.
Starting point is 01:24:05 I'm talking about a lot of these women that won the all-around titles, some won the silver medals. And you like Nadia Kovanić. I think she just went to the 76. I don't think she went from Romania. The Romanians normally bring a strong contingent. That's when Bella Carolla, he ended up defected
Starting point is 01:24:23 and he became a lot of these trainer but is it possible yes I'm not going to say anything is possible I wouldn't put anything past Simone Biles but at that point I mean if you're the greatest
Starting point is 01:24:40 she wins the women's all around with all the world championships and how many times she's been the national champion of America. I mean. Yeah. There's nothing else to prove. But I think if she was to compete in 28 at the age of 31, I think it would be to. Legacy is already solidified.
Starting point is 01:24:59 There's really nothing much more she has to prove at this point. She's the greatest. But it would just have to be something she wants to do right to ah she's already the the goat yeah i'm not sure right i'm not sure because there's a lot of that's that's a lot man that that tumbling is and i mean it's it's work for her because i mean she's10 what probably 90 95 pounds but she's done a great job of maintaining her weight
Starting point is 01:25:32 off season she doesn't go she's 4'8 she's 4'8 real? yes you know what now that you just mentioned her height are there any gymnasts i'm not going to say of size because i don't want to be disrespectful but that are a little on the
Starting point is 01:25:50 taller end are there any gymnasts like five eight five seven or do you have to be somewhat short that's a great question probably but five two five three yeah see nastia lucas was tall she was five three what about uh what about that's considered tall in gymnastics five three is considered tall okay okay okay i mean what about uh betlana, Korkina. 5'2". Yeah, see, most of them, I mean... So, I wonder... Because, Ocho, you need to be small
Starting point is 01:26:32 to be able to flip, to tumble, to get that... Because think about it. The taller you are, the greater the center of gravity that you have. Right. And that's what I was just getting ready to say. Can you still be as sharp if you're taller than 5'2 and 5'3 will you still be as sharp
Starting point is 01:26:48 the average is between 4'9 and 5'4 Simone is below average at 4'8 and then when you start getting above 4'5 it makes it that much more difficult you think? I thought it was Fetlana Boganskaya the Russian swan makes it that much more difficult, you think? How tall was Fetlana Boganskaya?
Starting point is 01:27:07 The Russian swan. See? How tall was she? 5'2". Okay. That's crazy. Korkina probably was the same thing. So in the history of gymnastics in general, from a woman's standpoint,
Starting point is 01:27:23 no one has ever been 5'7", 5'8". Ocho, like I said, I watch gymnastics and I know a little bit about it. I don't recall. Now, there have been like Larissa Latina. She had the most gold, had the most medals before Michael Phelps.
Starting point is 01:27:40 She couldn't have been no more than about 5'2". She might have been 5' tall. Larissa Latina. Russian. You see, Kayla Ross is 5'7". Henderman from Germany is 5'7". Okay, 5'7", kind of tall. That's tall.
Starting point is 01:28:03 That's very tall. That's a lot to try to get that flip. Right, right, right, right. Okay. Five, seven. Kind of tall. That's very tall. That's a lot to try to get that flip. Right. Right. Right. Right. Larissa Latina though was five, three. So I like it.
Starting point is 01:28:17 I like it. I like it. I like it. That's my, that's my history lesson for the day. Okay. I'm Michael Kasson, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company. The podcast where I sit down
