Go vote as many times you like and support the nightcap family. The Thunder beat the Spurge 123 to 108. The Thurbs have dominated the bench series. If you think about it, in game one there was plus 34. In game two, there was plus 32.
Starting point is 00:06:05 And they say, you know what? We don't think y'all get the message. We're going to make it a plus 53. Hmm. Oklahoma City bench have outscored the San Antonio's second unit 107 to 28. That's the first two game. Yes, sir. And after game three, it's one, it's one.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Hold on how you get, no, no, no, no, no, no, I was talking about it through three games, they've outscored, hold on, how you outscore them over the first two games by, and it's 32, 34 and 32? That's only 66. Okay, I see over there, a little, plus. I see you over there a little math major. Okay. Oh, Lord, have mercy. Hey, Joe, you might need to come out of retirement to help you might,
Starting point is 00:06:53 help the Spurs out. No, not. They need some help. But anyway, the Oklahoma City bench have outscored the San Antonio's second unit, 107 to 28 through the first two games. It's pretty rare for the bench to outscore starters. The last time, it was in game five in 2022 Eastern Conference Final between the Heat and the Celtic. Miami outscored their starters, 45,
Starting point is 00:07:14 to 18. And again tonight, the Thunder's bench outscored their starters. Remember who's in that starting lineup? The back-to-back MVP. Yes, sir. And the starters and the bench outscored those guys. Victor Wimmy Yama had one rebound in the second half of game three. The Thunder had six different players to record more second half rebounds than Wimby. Wemby had 26 points. He was perfect for the free throw line, six and 17, two of pro from the three point line. He didn't get much help from his from his bed they got no help i mean all five started within double figures but that's not enough because they get out to this big lead joe and then when they come in when the thunderbrain they shock drove in they take off and kick dussle up in the eyes uh mccane had 24
Starting point is 00:08:01 points case and wallace had 11 points uh but it was jela william that got him off to the great start he had four threes in the first half and that was really the difference in the ball game he was five of six from the three point live alice caruso is still shooting the lights out to jail from the three-point line. He was three or five from a three-point line. Jerry McCain got up 10-3s, but he had 24 big points. Joe, is this series over? I'm not going to say it's over.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I just think the Thunder took back command of this series. They got home court advantage back, fellas. They had to win on the road in order to, you know, survive this series. I think the most glaring thing for me, Uncle Ojo. Yeah. I mean, you talk about next man up, bro. You know, you get your all-star Jalen Williams, who's out, but then you get the big hog, another former Razorback,
Starting point is 00:08:53 Jalen Williamson, the big Jailen Williams. He come in, the man go, what he shot from the three? He's five of six. Five or six. Yeah. Like, I think what's underestimated about this Thunder team is how they played a significant amount of time without a lot of their key guys throughout the season,
Starting point is 00:09:13 and you have other guys who've just stepped right in. I'm talking about them field their void and having blinked a damn eye, fellas. You know what I mean? She got off to a rough start. He didn't even score the first quarter, and when you think about it, I thought they were for to run them boys up out the gym.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yep. They was up, what, 15 or like two? 15-0. Oh, man. I said, oh, Lord. Oh, man. Thumbufely to get ran about the building. It looked very ugly to start.
Starting point is 00:09:41 But once they subbed, and you're talking about McCain and Caruso and Wallace and Williams came in the game, those guys changed the whole entire game, bro. They changed the whole game. And then, and then Shay settled in. And next thing, you know, he was getting whatever he wanted to. He had 12 assists, 26 points. I just think OKC has been tried and tested over and over again, bro. This is what you call a championship win right here, man.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Championship win, great win for them. IHart Radio celebrates Asian Heritage Month. Discover powerful stories, vibrant cultures, and unforgettable music. Starting point is 00:10:42 Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? huge news. We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Starting point is 00:11:28 Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:11:53 This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated.
Starting point is 00:12:14 as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Ely Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job.
Starting point is 00:12:39 I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. the fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jordan Ono. You might know me as that loud guy who you're yells out, help on the internet.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian, and recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian! I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:13:47 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coultera podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Joe, you talk about how those guys coming and play
Starting point is 00:14:17 because I think the thing is is that them playing so much because Jalen William goes out, now you get a backup coming in, he's playing substantial minutes. You get Shea going out and you get a backup coming in, he's playing substantial minutes.
Starting point is 00:14:29 You get Chet going out, you get a backup, you get Jalen Williams coming in playing substantial minutes. You get Hardenstein going out and backup comes in, he's playing substantial minutes. Dort might miss some time
Starting point is 00:14:38 and you get a backup coming in. And so now, when it's time for them to come in and play meaningful minutes and meaningful games, they're unbothered by it. We've done that this is what we do. Just because you think there's more pressure because it's the playoffs, it's still 12 minutes and a quarter. Ain't nothing change.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Yeah. We still got three officials. Yeah. Point line is still 22 in the corner, 25 at the top. It's a, don't nothing change. And so when you go look at them and you look at the moment, they're not in all of it. They're not, bro.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And I think the thing is, Joe, and I, I like the Spurs, but I think the Spurs is going to have to go through what the O KC went through. You remember the OKC was favored to beat the Mavs? Yeah, yeah. When the Mavs shocked them. Yeah. They had to go through what they went through with the Mavs to get them where they are right now. And I believe the Spurs are going to have to face a similar fate in order for them to get to ultimately where they need to be.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Go ahead, Joe. What you like about what you saw tonight. I mean, what I like about what I saw, obviously in the beginning, I thought they were going to run them out at the gym. You know, Joe, like you said, but obviously they were eight, they were eight lead changes in the, in the first half. And once that second half got there, and those young fellas coming off that goddamn bench were doing what they were, getting to their spots, making those shots, I kind of knew the game was over. And there was really no chance
Starting point is 00:15:52 because we weren't getting anything from the Spurs bench. And it was too much pressure, you know, for the starting fire, for the Spurs, to have to play well and also not just play well, but be efficient and try to match with those, with those not only bench players, but with the starters were doing for the Thunder as well. And that kind of set them back. You know, So I, me, obviously, you know, I did pick the Spurs, you know, to win this series simply because of Wimby and him being a complete difference maker and me not really using my mind and thinking
Starting point is 00:16:21 about the depth and the way the goddamn thunder constructed and thinking about the time that Shay missed and them in the regular season, not missing the beat. And, Uncle, like you said, this moment, when players are coming in off the bench and getting quality minutes, ain't nobody scared at that moment. And ain't nobody's getting them on. And you can tell by how efficient, they're not only coming off the bench and hitting shots, look how goddamn efficient everybody is.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Yeah. And that's the thing. When you think about it, guys, I mean, they played really well. The problem that they're getting is that when Wimby goes out, they lose so much steam. Cornynett is giving them absolutely nothing. Think about how many offensive rebounds they got and then hit a three. They miss a shot.
Starting point is 00:17:07 You play great defense. And then all of a sudden they get a rebound. They get a rebound. Okay, now they miss that shot. They get another rebound. Kick the J-Lewil Williams. He knock a three down. They make the shot.
Starting point is 00:17:17 We play great defense, Joe, for all the way down to five seconds on the shot clock. They took a take a tough shot. They get the rebound. They kick into Caruso in the corner. He let off a three. That is so demoralizing. That's so debilitating to your team because we can't play any better defense. and the only thing, it doesn't matter how well you play defense.
Starting point is 00:17:40 You don't really play defense until you secure the rebounds. Right, right. That's when you, that's when defense is done. Yeah. Until then, nothing has changed. Look, look. And that's where they won the ball game. You look at McCain, make big shot at the big shot.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Caruso make big shot after big, uh, Caruso make big shot. And I think the single biggest mistake that Rob Polink has made, and he's made some for the Lakers was letting Caruso out of the building. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I think that is his single, that is his single greatest, mistake that he's done because you had a three and d guy a guy that you develop yeah a great glue guy great glue guy outstanding defense he can he can go he'll guard a point he'll guard a two he'll guard
Starting point is 00:18:22 a three hell throw him in there a couple of minutes on the four to give something he's stronger than he looked I know he looked frail he looked fiend but he's stronger than he look yeah he's not afraid of the moment to take a big shot. He plays defense. Hey, he'll take a charge. He'll block a shot from behind. He's phenomenal. He's exactly what they needed. And when you look at this roster, you get a Jerry McCain. You got a Caruso coming off the bench. You got Wallace. Wallace, second team, all defense. Caruso could have been him all defensive player. Yeah, yeah. Chet, second team, all defense. Yeah. Lou Dord plays outstanding defense. Isaiah Joe comes in and he knocks down a shot. man listen
Starting point is 00:19:00 if I'm Shay you look at the starters for OKC fellas everybody was a minus when he comes to plus minus except Shee he was a plus 11 everybody else was minus you look at they bench though
Starting point is 00:19:14 they bench plus 28 plus 26 plus 22 bro I don't know I don't know if it's ever happened like this in the post season I mean Jay McCann I think that's a career high for him tonight but yeah but when you look at that's a career
Starting point is 00:19:28 high for him also. Yeah, yeah. But when you look at it, when you look at it, you're thinking to yourself, man, who's going to come along on the ride with me if you shade? You're like, because you really don't know. J. Dub, about, you wish you could get more scoring output from Homebridge, but
Starting point is 00:19:45 you know, he's just not giving you that, and you get McCain come in, he act like he's AI out there. I'm talking about getting to his fights, shooting the middies, shooting the three, being disruptive, him, Caruso, while J-dub, man, I'm talking about it was such a special performance.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I enjoy watching it because when you get down like that early in the game, you take their best blow. That was the best blow that San Antonio threw. They trying to get them out of that early. Man, those boys didn't blink, bro. They didn't blink. They stayed with it and was able to fight back in the game. And from after the first quarter, hell, they controlled the whole game, bro.
Starting point is 00:20:22 They controlled the rest of the game. Your Hunger made first team all defense. Go ahead, Joe. You know, I got a question. And y'all would be well versed to be able to answer this. You think about the way the spurs are constructed, not only the five starters, but the way the bench are constructed and the way they're able to score and not miss a beat
Starting point is 00:20:38 when some of their key players go out. Name another NBA team that has been constructed where the starters can go out and everyone else will still just be efficient and you don't miss a goddamn beat. The spurs has been pretty good. You know, they just didn't, they bench just didn't have a great night tonight. You know, unfortunately, you know what I mean? I just think OKC understood like, damn, we got to go down here and get at least one.
Starting point is 00:21:02 It'll be great if we can win game three. You know, now try and be a little greedy, get game four and see if you can go and get these boys out of here. But when we go back home. Yeah, yeah. I just thought, I thought they were so poised, especially in their second half coming down the stretch. You can't really, it's like, you know, you watch the Knicks in the Cavs series. You can kind of seek, okay, you come set this pick. Let me get this mismatch.
Starting point is 00:21:25 It ain't a damn mismatch. They ain't really got a whole hell of a lot of mismatchezer because Vassel can guard, Champini can guard, hell, Fox can guard. They all can guard. You just trying to put them in a huckabuckabuck to where they can mess up, make the wrong decision, and y'all can get something easy for it. I thought he started using his guys around him to the tee, meaning McCain, Castle, I mean, not Castle, Caruso.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Caruso Wallace. I thought he started using those guys to the tee, which is why he had 12 assists. man, it was just a hell of a performance, bro. Yeah. But hold on, Joe, hold on. Now, I'm saying the way they're constructed, the way the Thunder are constructed, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:07 There are not very many teams where some of your key players go out and the bench comes in and those that are playing that don't start, that get quality minutes, come in and be this goddamn efficient. Every team is a built like this. That's like saying,
Starting point is 00:22:19 where there ain't very many players like, no, they're not. But look at Dylan Harper that comes off the Spurs bench. Yeah. Is he not good? Yeah, yeah. Keldon Johnson that comes off their bench.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Cornett in the regular season and even in the post season has been better. He's minus 37 and 33 minutes in the post season. Yeah. So he's underperformed where these guys, what the Thunder, have performed or overperformed what we're used to seeing them. So that is the difference. You got one team that's underperforming. You got another team that the bench is really good,
Starting point is 00:22:50 but that's overperforming because if you look at what they're doing to the starters, They got 77 points from their bench. Their bench outscored their starters. Yeah. I mean, that's what I was asking. The way the Thunder are constructed, has there been many teams that are constructed like this where you don't miss a beat when you go to your bench?
Starting point is 00:23:09 Well, Joe, you really don't know what you have. Right. Until you get in there. You try to put pieces together. What they've done is done a great job. This team is homegrown. Okay, they trade for Shay early. But look at it.
Starting point is 00:23:23 drafted Chet. They drafted all these guys. Yeah. Yeah, they get Hartinstein. They get Caruso. Chicago was having a fire sale. They basically gave him Caruso. Philly's like we got Etcham, we got Maxie, we got Paul George.
Starting point is 00:23:37 We don't need a fourth guard. They basically give him away. Yeah. And so now what you've done is that you've made a team that was already strong. You made them stronger. Yeah. Because defensively, they can guard out of a yin-yang. You look at Caruso.
Starting point is 00:23:52 So you look at Wallace, you look at Dort, you look at Chet. So you got guys. So you think about it, when you see them on the court, they'll never have less than three defenders on the court at any given time. Nah. Nevertheless, a lot of times you'll see them with three defenders, Shea and a big. Sometimes it's Chet, sometimes it's Hardinstein.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah. But they're going to have three guys, and they can switch everything. Yeah. And that's what makes them so unique. And you got to give Sam Presti some credit. fellas. Like Unk said, hell, he went out there and got Caruso. You went out there and got McCain for a bag of chips and some donuts. It's like, bro, how? How? I mean, McCain, I think the aggressiveness that McCain plays with, bro, you know, he understood the assignment, Uncle
Starting point is 00:24:43 Ocho, meaning, damn, we need a second score tonight. You know, we need somebody to be aggressive because there's so much attention on Shay and as bad as we want Shay to get loose and break out and had one of these 35, 40-point games, San Antonio too damn good for that. I'm going to just be honest. He had 30. That last game had 26 tonight. But if they get contribution from these other guys
Starting point is 00:25:03 to what they can play above and beyond, like tonight, I'm not saying this going to happen every night. Maybe OKC bench gets outplayed in game for by San Antonio bench. But tonight, their bench won them this game, bro. They bench won them this game. And I also thought, oh, Joe and Joe. I thought San Antonio let their emotions get the best of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:27 You see, you see what happened because Caruso, they're taught. I'm not giving you no layups. I'm a fine. You go to the free throw line and you're going to make it. Yeah. If you see him to breakaway, a castle was getting upset. Yeah. You see they, he's like, no, no, no, you're not getting no layup.
Starting point is 00:25:41 You're not getting no breakaway. You're not getting no dunk. You're not fit to get this crowd ride up. Riled up. Take your ass to the free throw line and make them. Yeah, I thought they're messaging you see they got some tick-and-packed file. You pick up a file in the back court, and then you get enough. another file. They picked up three files in the first half, Joe, in a matter of 20 seconds.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Yeah. Three files. Yeah. Now guess what? You got them going to the free throw line. You know, Shay, he's going to pump fake you. You're going to get up and then he going to jump into you. And I ain't going to the free throw line. You look at it. You're looking at the picture like what? No, you filed it. Right. They did the same thing in the second half. And then I thought their motion, they'll let their motions get the best of them. Yeah. They're doing a great job. Whatever they decided to say, you know, look, Wimby is an outstanding player, but 24 rebounds.
Starting point is 00:26:22 They got a body on him every time. That's why you only got four rebounds. It's not his lack of effort. Yeah. Go look at him when the ball goes up and see won't somebody find Wimby. Yeah, you're right. It might be Caruso. It might be Wallace.
Starting point is 00:26:33 It might be Shea. It might be Chet. It might be Hartinstein, but they're putting a body on him. Yeah. Ain't no free runs to the basketball, bro. Sorry. Nah, hey, hey. And as a series go, if you OKC, this is what you plan for.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Hopefully we can wear his big ass down. Yeah, he might give us 25, 26, But we got a lead. He only had two blocks tonight. Obviously, he's still altering shots. But the non-Wimby minutes, unc that you're talking about, hell, he played, 39 minutes tonight. 39.
Starting point is 00:27:03 I mean, what you want to play, 48? He got to come off the court at something. He got to come up. But see, I thought what I thought, Joe, is that he came out of the game with five minutes. Five minutes. So basically, 704 on the clock, they put Cornette in. By the time he come back in, they only down four points. Yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:27:20 And now I'll give you everything I got, Ocho, you know what I'm saying? We got three, we got two first. We got an, uh, uh, Ocho don't go on off. Ocho got 105 two touchdown. Corey Dillon in the rush for 84 yards. He got two touchdown. Like, ooh, you look up at the stock like, damn, we only up three points. We don't get all that.
Starting point is 00:27:42 We only up three points. Right. Think about it. As well as they played in the first quarter, hitting everything, crowd going electric. look up at the clock. Damn, we only are three. Ever, all of that? After 15.9.
Starting point is 00:27:58 So now, so what did that do to you mentally? We gave you everything we had. Hey, we ought to be in there. You know what I'm saying? Hey, you, hey, I'm a power drive. Yeah. I'm traveling leader. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Ah! Ah! Ah! And next thing you know, when you're ready to go again? Huh? Hey, ain't, ain't, anybody. going anywhere but to the ER.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Because if I do anything before 7.30 tomorrow morning, I'm going to the ER. So leave me alone. Yeah. And so that's what happened to San Antonio. They gave everything they had. Yeah. Okay, see you say, okay, what about the second quarter?
Starting point is 00:28:38 Yeah. Man. Yeah. I don't know what to tell you. And you look at this, the way they built this team. Yeah. They're going to be good for a minute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yeah. Hey, hey, I was impressed, bro. I was impressed because to be able to fight back in like that on the road and that hostile environment, down 15, nothing, bro, to be able to climb back in their game and Shay don't score in the first quarter, fellas. Come on, man. Come on, I'm going to keep it real.
Starting point is 00:29:10 I'm like, damn, okay, see, in trouble tonight. They're in trouble. But you had guys step up and play big, bro. Damn. Hey, in game one, Cornyette played nine minutes. He was minus nine. He played 10 minutes, game two, he was minus 10. He played six minutes tonight.
Starting point is 00:29:28 He's minus 18. Cornette? Cornette. Yeah. Game one, he played nine minutes, minus nine. Game two, 10 minutes, minus 10. Game three, played six minutes, Joe, minus 18. He's going to the wrong direction.
Starting point is 00:29:44 It said he played 12 minutes. Well, that's too many. That's 12, too many. Yeah. So how many he played? too many. Yeah, he's nonexistence. You know what I mean? He, he don't, uh, he don't clog up the paint how Wimby does. Like, when Wimby down there, it's like, they're a little reluctant to even go to the cup. You know, you see a lot of them guys shooting middies, shooting floters,
Starting point is 00:30:08 things of that sort. They, they won't Wimby off the damn floor, man. Hey, hey, hey, hey, they do, yes, absolutely. If Wimby ain't in the game, I don't have to second guess none of my decision making. Let's get right to it. Yeah. Hey, bro, they look at Wimby like the devil. Well, if the devil ain't home, I drive through hell. Every day, every time. Oh, Joe, Joe, he ain't home. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:30 What I care about going to the, Cornet? Right. Man, hey, this joke going out of the lane like in the lane. Yeah, yeah. And you got to look at some, Hardinstein and Big Jalen Williams, they're two totally different big. You know, they both play hard, J-dub, big J-dub.
Starting point is 00:30:54 He's going to take charges. He ain't no, you know, he ain't going to be blocking no shots. But, man, you're talking about somebody who can stretch the floor and make the defense be honest. That's what J-dub does, bro. You got to play him on this, Joe. Yeah. Because he ain't looking, he ain't going down there. No.
Starting point is 00:31:09 He ain't going past the three-point line. Nah. So in Wemby, so basically you're like, I don't want Wimby to guard him because he ain't going to come down there and win me. There's going to be no fact that the top of the key is sitting in the damn corner. Right. Yeah. And then you're going to go. And everybody knows the guy, when he's on the court, the guy is going to help off of him.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Yep. Yeah. Because he, and guess what? He's just going to sit out there with his feet sit. Yeah. And let it fly. He did his job tonight. Hey, the bench mob won them this game.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Now we'll see what type of adjustments, San Antonio made. But hell, man. I hope they make them, Joe. What kind of adjustments you think they're going to make, Ocho? I mean, I don't know what the hell they can do, honestly. I mean, what else can you do? Outside of your starting five, and those who are scores, Castle, you know, being a little more efficient, he was very well tonight.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Unc, he ain't had no turnovers. Castle ain't having a turnover now. Gary and Foggling on the back, he went out again. He heard his ankle again. So I'm not sure what that's going to look like. But obviously you want, when some of your starters go out and they got to get a little breather, you'll want some more from your bench. Joe, my bench got to give me something because if the damn Thunderbench playing the way
Starting point is 00:32:22 they're playing. I mean, you got the match Imano for Imano. If they do, if the bench is playing that well, somebody got to, somebody got to give me something. Well, man, you got to look at it. If Dylan Harper is hurt, he banged up and he can't give you that 100%. Yeah, OKC got thoroughbreds in that second unit, bro. Yeah. Ain't nothing wrong with them boys. They can do everything. They can guard. They can shoot the three. They can playmate. They got everything,
Starting point is 00:32:48 though. They got everything. And the thing is when you get once you get to this point and the thunder said we're not going to let you half ass come out here and think you're going to do anything. Right. We're going to attack you. Yeah. It's like on the Serengetty. The old and the injured get eaten first. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Yes, sir. So I'm coming at you. Yeah. Yeah. All they do is starting. Okay. Oh, you're young. I got you.
Starting point is 00:33:15 He injured. He lipping. they look at hey they look at Dylan Harper they look at Fox they're injured yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:33:26 I'm on that hey you know what even though the game looked at night and it was in it was in it was in a thunder favor
Starting point is 00:33:34 I still got the Spurs I still got the Spurs going to seven this ain't nothing but hey this ain't nothing but a goddamn 12 round boxing match you know
Starting point is 00:33:42 and right now round three the Thunder got round three we gonna let them head at Yeah, hey, I don't expect you to switch up, bro. I expect for you to stick with your guns. You know what I mean? Yes, sir, yes, sir. Yeah, listen, I ain't been wrong all playoff long, Joe.

Starting point is 00:34:39 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to our... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:34:53 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
Starting point is 00:35:12 where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Starting point is 00:37:55 available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm feeling good at night, Joe. I'm just, and, you know, Fox, he hurt that, he hurt that ankle again, Joe. Yeah. Hey, hey, Unk, he got about 37 braces on his damn shoes. man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Hey, he wearing them damn underarmers. You see Steph Curry and got out them damn under arms.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Yeah, yeah. He wasn't about them too. Better get about them bricks. Hey, I understand
Starting point is 00:38:37 that they pay you some money, but what good is that? Yeah. You're staying injured in them bricks. Hey,
Starting point is 00:38:42 hey, because he looked good when he came out to shoot to start the game. Hey, you see, I can't quit
Starting point is 00:38:49 that joke that you can't. You can move. boy, he twitchy on it so fast. Ain't nothing you can't even get that fast enough. Hey, he's twitchy, on. Twitchy and get room and cut the light up and be in bed before he get dark.
Starting point is 00:39:02 I saw him. Hey, that's bad. I don't know what it is. With a joker left-handed, and if he got, if he left-handed, then quit. Boy, you got hell on your hands. Ooh, we.
Starting point is 00:39:15 It's just something about a left-handed guy, period. Whether it's a pitcher, whether it's a bowler, you know what I'm saying? or a court, whatever it is. It just something about a left-handed guy. It looked different. It seemed like they got an advantage, don't it, man. They do.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Tennis players, yeah. The way they can spin the ball, you look at Nadal, you look at a, who's left-handed for women, Martina Navitolova. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:42 You look at Kittava. I mean, it's just something about, it's just something about, Goraenizavich was lefty. Yeah. It's just something about left-handed pitchers. look at the big unit. Man, when that joke is stared up on that mile six, ten and a half
Starting point is 00:39:55 and he's throwing that thing and his arm out here coming from first base. Bing. It's just some great game, though, great game. It was, but you know, sometimes Joe, I can give you, I can give you, I can get, you can give somebody everything you got. And it's just not enough. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Yeah. And that might be the case. We'll see. Like you said, they're going to be adjustments. You see the last two games, what the adjustment was. or what they were for the thunder. Make sure we get the ball, the ball goes up for the spurs.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Make sure we find some, I don't care who, find Wimby and put a body on him. Yeah. It's a, and O.K.C. need to check the step up in game four. Because if I'm the spurs,
Starting point is 00:40:42 probably the adjustments I'm going to try and make us to try to calm some of these role players down that's coming off the bench, the McCains, the Caruso's, the Wallace, I mean, I don't know what type of, defense you're going to put on big J. Dub, because he's always going to pick and pop,
Starting point is 00:40:56 and he always going to be out there at the three. Yeah. So they got some. Don't play him to roll. Just play him to pop. Hey, look, they got some real decisions to make because they do. You know, when you guard Hardinstein, you don't really have to worry about all that. You just have to worry about his hustle, his hard working, you know what I mean,
Starting point is 00:41:14 getting second chance, opportunities, things of that sort. But J. Dub just brings a different element to the game. They bench bring a different element to the game because they play so hard, defensive. They fuel off turnovers. And you let them get going and you let them make a shot or two. You see what happened tonight. They'll run them off on you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:32 And that's what happens, Joe. I mean, you know the thing is confidence is everything. It's more. Man, hey, Ocho, let me, let me, I tell you what, you let me catch two or three pass on that first drive. And think y'all going to be able to do anything with me the rest of the game. Yeah. Not at all.
Starting point is 00:41:46 Not a chance in hell. Yeah. Hello, you made a tell we just had a 10-play drive and I got three passes. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Because, hey, hello.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Yeah, hello. Yeah, listen, listen. Because all your focus is on Shay. You ain't expecting McCain to come in and drop and get down like that. Yeah, you know, Caruso, he's going to be solid and effective. You ain't expecting J-dub to come in and play the way he played, bro. Yeah. You can't, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:42:13 So now that you may lock in on those guys, you're going to need your star players to step up, bro. Hey, they need check. I've always said since they won, I said, said, man, listen, the O KC Thunder can be a dynasty, but Chick has to come along and be Shays' co-star. He has to. Okay, Ocho, they need him, bro. They need him so bad.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Joe, but the problem is even when Chet don't give you anything, think about it. Chet gave you 14. You had Jalen Williams, Caruso, and McCain have more points than him. Yeah. And they play less minutes. And how are they shooting more damn shots than him? That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Like he, I think there are opportunities where he can be aggressive, but he just kind of getting it within the floor of the game. He ain't forcing nothing. He's just kind of letting it come to him. But there are going to be times, bro. They're going to need him to force the action a little bit. He got to be aggressive. If a wind be guarding you, you're shooting?
Starting point is 00:43:12 Nope. No, no. Hey, ain't going to go. Get that, good. Hey, he's over. Hey, I'm turned into a cell football magic jostler. He didn't fit to throw my stuff up in the stairs. Hey, you're going to have to outwork his big ass or something, but you got me, seven shots
Starting point is 00:43:28 in 28 minutes. Come on, man. This is my co-star. I mean, I've heard Shay ran rave about him, how they've been this championship caliber team since they've acquired, you know, homero since they drafted him. Yeah. So I know they're looking for him to step up, man, and have one of those big games, 25, 12.
Starting point is 00:43:46 I'm looking for that. He's going to have that in game four. Now, you know, having game four, it might happen in game five, But game four is us, though. Spurs are going to make the property, you know, the necessary adjustments. Then boys come up the bench. I mean, the chances of them playing like that again. I mean, it's not likely.
Starting point is 00:44:00 They might give you something. But it ain't going to look like it looked at night. I don't know, Ocho. I don't know, man. That's why I said, you know, we talked about what it would look like coming in game three. We said the start of the game going to determine what we were thinking about the riffs. We didn't think that San Antonio would come out guns or blazing 15-0. but the rest ain't had
Starting point is 00:44:24 nothing to do with this fellas this is all I want to No no no no no no No When be on facing the deficit for the first time This playoffs is my first playoffs It's the first playoffs for many of us Of course they're going to be hard trials
Starting point is 00:44:38 You know it is to be expected But now we're going to see what we're made of They're being physical The difference maybe With this team is their experience But they're being more smart about it but we just have to find answers. There's no place for frustration.
Starting point is 00:44:54 It's annoying, of course, but we got to use that energy. Wemby later said, I feel like I have trouble making my teammates better right now. I need to be more of a team player. Joe? Well, I mean, they ain't really, they ain't collapsing that hard. What they're doing, what they're doing is they're trying to stay home with the shoes of the hell. But Seale had 20. You know, Champ Penny, I thought he played great.
Starting point is 00:45:19 You know, he made some shots. Castle went one for eight. I think that kind of hurt him. You know what I mean? I did too. And I think the thing that you have with Castle is, if he has a ball in his hands, Uncle Ocho, he can kind of find more of a rhythm.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I know he'd turn over prone, but when he, when he's playing that two spot, you know, he don't get to handle as much. I don't really think he hadn't been that effective. You know what I mean? Yeah. So I think he has to figure out his happy medium in that way. But I don't think Wimby has to, you know,
Starting point is 00:45:49 put too much on himself. He's doing what he can do. Exactly. Hey, bro, you gave us 2060. Now you're shooting 50% from the floor. You was aggressive because he got to the free throw line 10 times. Castle got to the line 14 times. They shot 33 free throws.
Starting point is 00:46:06 They turned the ball over 15 times. They probably need to be down there somewhere around eight or nine. But I don't really know because he makes them better just by him being on the court, Joe. Absolutely. That's it. That's it, that's it, Jojo. That's it. Him being on the court makes them better.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Yeah. Because he draws so many eyes, so much attention. Hey, but you look, you look in that Minnesota series, though, when Castle played great, they're hard to beat, fellas. Yes. They're hard to beat. I'm talking about when he doing a little bit of everything, it's hard to beat them.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Even in OKC, the first couple games. Yeah, they weren't getting blown out. You know, they won, they won one and lost one. Yep. I just think with him, being, you know, one for eight, it's going to be, it's going to be hard for them to win because when he's going to give you, he going to give you what he's going to get. Now, if he get 40 something, if he get 40 and 20 hell, it's going to be hard to beat them. But you can live with this 26, 27,
Starting point is 00:47:07 28 and, you know, a few rebounds, you know, a few assists and you keep the rest of these guys at bay, you got a great chance of winning, bro. I think what we have to remember is now, okay, see a hell of a defensive team too. Yes. You know, I know, I know. I know. Wimby got out on them in that one game, we had 41, 42, 41, 42, 41 and 21. Yeah, but outside of that, you know, they're hell of the- I mean, what's the way of it averaging? It wouldn't be, a joke, Wimby probably averaging 32 and 13.
Starting point is 00:47:38 In this series? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, 32 and 10, I mean, 32 and 10. Yeah. Yeah. He had 41, I think he had 27 the last game. We got 26 in this game.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Yeah. So he ended 33, 34 points a game. He's probably averaging 9, 10 rebounds a game. He's probably averaging three blocks a game. He's never going to be an assist guy. That's not what he is. We understand that. But damn, he's going to need somebody to come along with him,
Starting point is 00:48:04 just like Shea. Go look at the Lakers. Shea really had one outstanding game. That was the last game. But the other three games, he had a lot of guys coming along with him and was aiding him. Yeah. That's what Wimby is going to need.
Starting point is 00:48:18 You know what? I like what he said, Uncle Joe. That's what you want to hear from your goddamn least. after a game like that, we're going to see what we made of. And I need to be able to do more. There's really not much more he can do himself. Yeah. And just like Unc said, Joe, but everybody else got to show up to the party.
Starting point is 00:48:36 They do. When we got his ticket into the party, shit, y'all got to, hey. You're 29 and 15. Ooh. Damn. And he's shooting over 50%. I mean, OKC stuff. I mean, look at OKC starters, bro.
Starting point is 00:48:53 They just, they ain't play worth nothing tonight. I'm just going to keep it real. I mean, you look at AJ Mitchell. Hey, Joe. What, Lou Dohert gave you tonight, Joe? Boy, Donut in 23 minutes. But, you know, they really, it really don't surprise me, Ocho, because he ain't going to do a whole hell of a lot of scoring.
Starting point is 00:49:10 You know, he's going to play. Huh? Except on defense. Yeah, yeah. He going to play hard defensively, you know, be disruptive. So this, that donut don't really surprise me. I think when you look at it, You see how great A.J. Mitchell was against the damn Lakers.
Starting point is 00:49:24 It's just a different story, bro, against the Spurs, man. Because they're not looking at, I mean, look at him like, boy, that's your age. He looked like James Hard and his prime against the Lakers. The man had two points tonight. Yeah, he ain't really got off of this. Yeah. You got to be really, I mean, you've got to be really good to shake these guys because everybody can defend.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Everybody. Everybody, bro. It don't matter who you said their damn pick with. They're going to sit down and they're going to switch it. going to guard. And that's what I love about the Spurs, bro. I love how they play. I love their togetherness, their grittiness, and they're going to be a scary team in years to come. But OKC still got some work to do. Yes. Going back to Jerry McCain, Darry traded McCain. Mori said, I'm quite confident we're selling high on McCain. Obviously, time will tell.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Three months later, he dropped 24 points in the Western Conference final to lead the Thunder to a game's three victory. McCain has scored more points in the conference finals than the last six 76ers lottery picks combined. Did the 76ers make a mistake? I'll go to you first, Joe, and then you owe Joe. I think it was a blessing in disguise for McCain to get hurt. Because by him getting hurt, Uncle Ocho,
Starting point is 00:50:44 obviously, you know, they drafted Eschcom. He comes in on fire. Young phenom, You thinking, I ain't going to lie hell, I probably would have traded McCain ass too. You know what I mean? Just keep it 100. You know, I just, I'm going to be honest. I ain't really see this.
Starting point is 00:51:00 I know he had a great spurt his rookie year with Philly. Yeah, Joe, Joe, wasn't that enough? I mean, that wasn't enough to show you, Joe. That's like, hey, this kid, this kid pretty good. But damn, look at all the guards. We got Maxie Edgecombe. We got Grimes. We got, we got, we didn't really got no.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Where are you going to play at? Maxie playing for. 40 minutes a night. My thing was, Joe, based on what I had seen, I'm not, I guess because it was so guard heavy, you had Ace Bailey and you had a Dylan Harper, and you had all these guys etch him coming out. And so I guess it really didn't give you a whole lot of choice
Starting point is 00:51:38 because the top of the draft was so guard heavy. Yeah. So you had to take a guard. So in that aspect, I can see what you. I agree with you because I understand who's the, okay, got cool yeah it'd been great if somebody would have been dumb enough to pass on cooper flag and you could take cooper flag but nobody was going to be that dumb no right yeah so now you got etcham now you got dylan harper yeah now you got ace bailey yeah look at the next basically the next
Starting point is 00:52:04 four or five selections were guards yeah yeah yeah so philly philly was in what we call a hucklebug they had to they had to i just felt yeah they ain't get nothing back from him though they didn't They just traded him for real talk, like two bags of chips. They ain't getting that for them for. Yeah. And you know when that happened, Uncle Joe, when they trade you what's up for a bag of chips, they don't really value. They don't really think you are who you may think you are.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Then you got to come out. Then you got to come out and play like this. Yeah. Yeah. You have to come out electric. You have to come out determined because you like, damn, they gave up on me. Hold on. I'm going to show him.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I'm going to show him what they messed up at. And he's played like that. You can tell in his interviews when he talked. Yeah, he's even said things about, you know, being in Philly. You know, he's going to make them pay. He's going to make them, you know what I mean? That's what you should do. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:58 Yeah, yeah, expect him. He was like, hey, with Shea shot that shot in game two, he was like, hey, Shay, Shay, Shay, let him don't know what I'm saying? Shut the fuck. He said, he called my name. I'm in the middle of the shot. Hey, listen. She said, like, Shay was looking for his ass tonight, though.
Starting point is 00:53:21 I tell you that. Hey, he sure was. But I told you, Joe, the Lakers had that lead in the fourth quarter, and dude came in and hit two big three. And then one, he hit one, Hardinstein, maybe with Hardinstein or Chet had set a pick behind the three point line. And he just turned and let it. I was like, I was like, yeah, it ain't looking good for us.
Starting point is 00:53:43 I say, if a bench player comes out, If Shea hits that shot, I ain't given them the second thought. That's, oh, that's Shay. What you're talking about a bench player coming off and hitting a 25, 26 foot three off a pick and just lets it. Well, I think when you got great bench players, those are guys who come in the game and they feel like they can't start or should be starting. Yes. So they play with their sense of urgency. They play with their confidence.
Starting point is 00:54:09 It's oozing out of them. You can tell. They look comfortable out there on the court. I mean, McCain, great in the pick and roll, getting into the teeth. the defense shooting his floater shooting his middy he plays well off shay because he's a catching shoot guy yeah and he and he he's tough-minded defensively bro like he has all the makeup of being a hell of a hell of a player in his league and see that's what when you got a guy like that a guy that's a great one-on-one player he need guys that can catch and shoot yes uh
Starting point is 00:54:40 guys that can catch and shoot lebron won't guys that can catch and shoot hard-in-warning guys that can that can catch and shoot. Steph, that's why he and Clay works so well. Yeah. And when they got Kevin Durant, so now you got three of the all-time great shooters. I wish you would help off either one of them and see what happened to you.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Absolutely, absolutely. Because go ahead, Joe. Now, I was going to say you could tell Coach and his teammates also believe in him and gave him that green light. Yeah, he shot 21 times. 21 time tonight. Shea only shot 17.
Starting point is 00:55:14 So you know that he got the green light. from somebody. Once you get in there, man, do what you do. Don't even think about it. You, hey, you have to be a great complimentary piece, bro. When you got a star player who demands so much attention like Shay, you need these other guys around them who are not indecisive on what they're going to do offensively, whether they're shooting or driving to the best. You need guys who make quick decision. It's like a quarterback, Uncle Ocho. Hell, when he dropped back, can he process things real quick? You know what I mean? versus holding on to their damn ball, three, four, second.
Starting point is 00:55:47 The number one thing, Joe. Huh? That's the number one thing a quarterback got to have. Yeah. All that measurable, he's six, five, he can run four two. Don't mean nothing. He can throw it 100 yards. I don't give a damn about none of that.
Starting point is 00:55:59 How quickly can he process information? There you go. Hey, that's the same thing for intelligent Hooper, for a Gray Hooper, is how fast can he process what it is that's going to happen? Because you don't really have predetermined moves. running a pick and roll hell you don't know what's going to be open you know what i mean but within a split second you have to be able to make a precise decision on what it is you want to do now i'm getting a t to the defense i'm going to shoot this jump i'm going to shoot this minute i see my big coming
Starting point is 00:56:29 i see the corner the the the the corner pass open way on on the weak side you know what i mean like those are all reeds that a point guard or that a guard period has to have in this game and i feel like even when she comes off the court and mccane is that the one and he's running at the him. Man, he looked like a damn starter at times, bro. Yeah. He does. That's funny. You know what Joe? And what makes it, what makes it different? Now, I can't really explain it in basketball term, but I can explain it in terms of football. Like Uncle saying, it's really important if you have someone that can read and react. It's all about reading and react. There you go.
Starting point is 00:57:03 And being able to improvise. Now, you know what's supposed to happen when you run a certain play, but being able to improvise when something that you don't expect happens and being be able to redirect and make those decisions really, really fast, no matter what, with no hesitation. Yeah. It makes people great. Yeah. Absolutely. Because of the, uh, uh, uh, Ocho, we call plays based on what we think they're going to run.
Starting point is 00:57:24 They do. Yeah. Now what happens if they don't run the defense that we think we're going to get, Ocho? You got to be able to adjust. Quarterback, what you're going to do? Got them. I know we've expected them to run. I understand we expect them to go single high safety.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Yeah. But they run quarters, not what you're going to do. Or they run quarter of seven. They run cover five. cover two man under. And they run cover six and they kick it. Yeah. Quarter, quarter half.
Starting point is 00:57:50 And they kick one to the front side. Yeah. So now what do you do? How soon can you process that information? Right. I know I'm supposed to go. Damn it. They ain't get.
Starting point is 00:57:58 By your third step, the great quarterback that already processes it. This is not what I anticipated. Now, what did I go through? Where am I supposed to go? Because they already took one away. The coverage took one away. The sooner you understand.
Starting point is 00:58:13 stands that they've taken one away and now one I'm going now he's one oh chose well TJ was one to begin with yeah oh chose one yeah the title is to back here you go and you got to be in the point guard as you say Joe are they going to trap me they're going to bless me if he's going to show is he hedging what he going to do right I got but I can't be thinking about that yeah no I got to see it you know really good ones can tell before it even happens yeah they they they see play and they see them unfold and develop in real time, meaning, you know, it's not a lot of guys who can read and react, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:58:50 You know what I mean? That's an attribute that a lot of the greats have, bro. To be able to do that on the fly like that, especially when you got teams mixing up their coverage, sometimes they trap him. You know, sometimes the big is in a low stance. Like, you have to read and react and be able to process all these things. and I think obviously OKC has that just a true, true championship team, bro, from top to bottom.
Starting point is 00:59:18 I mean, I don't know who else outside of the Spurs, really, who has a bench like this, who can come in and change the entirety of a game, bro. Nope. Ain't Nana? You know, Golden State bench was like that. When they bring into Egadala, they bring Livingston, and they had Leandro Barbosa. Yep. And they had all those guys, and they just come out and waves.
Starting point is 00:59:39 And like I, we saw this with the Lakers. They were down five points. She goes to the bitch when he checks back in there up nine. Yeah. Yeah. We see this. He gets in foul trouble. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:54 And guys look at it as an opportunity. This is our opportunity to show because I keep telling guys all the time. You're not only trying to impress your teammates. You're trying to impress other general managers. There you go. There you go. Because you know, OKC ain't the only one they got a payroll. There you go.
Starting point is 01:00:11 There you go. There you go. Guys need to understand that. And everybody doesn't have basketball IQ, Joe, Ocho. We know that. You ask a guy, bro, why you? Man, I thought, what you mean you thought? So how long you think the quarterback got you think this seven on seven?
Starting point is 01:00:31 Then he can sit back there and just pat the ball like this here and let you run whatever route you want to run? Right. Ocho, we had a guy one time. I ain't going to call his name, but we had a guy. We go and play a one. We're doing one-on-one. Yeah. You know what he asked the coach?
Starting point is 01:00:44 He asked the coach. What you want me to run? A man or a zone route. It's one-on-one. What you mean? A man or zone route. Hey, don't put that man on the field with me. He literally asked the coach, it's one-on-one.
Starting point is 01:01:00 They got you and the DB fit right here. What you want me to run, a man or zone route. Yeah. That's funny. Hey. But you wonder why. And like when you around it and you listen to guys talk
Starting point is 01:01:21 and they be in the game, it's like, okay, what you see? Okay, what happened to you? Yeah. Coach him up. No, no, no, no, no. I ain't coaching his show. If he spent time, if he get off his phone and every break we get, he run to the truck.
Starting point is 01:01:42 Oh, man. To get on the damn phone. Come on, man. Give your damn playbook. It's a, eh, it's the thing of man's game. I'm gonna Joe, regardless of what sport you're playing, whether it's hockey, whether it's baseball, whether it's, whether it's football, it's a soccer, it's a thinking man's game. I think my bad, Joe, I think it's more of a read and react game.
Starting point is 01:02:03 Meaning, meaning like in basketball, you can't have predetermined, you know, decision-making, bro. You know, you have to be decisive of what it is the defense is doing. You have to read and react off the defense. okay, damn, okay, we come down, they're in a damn zone. Well, we have to run a zone offense, or we have to do something to get them out of that zone. If they ain't man to man, obviously, you know, pick and roll or, you know, run down picks or we run a flex, you know,
Starting point is 01:02:30 something to kind of loosen up the defense, but it's hard to play. I will figure, I mean, I only play basketball to be able to play any other sport, and you're going out there predetermined on what it is you already want to do. No. You have to read and react of what the defense is doing. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:02:48 Basketball, that's essential. Yeah, because the thing is, Joe, coach would ask you say, what, 84, why did you do that? I say because when you drew it up on the blackboard, that guy didn't move. At all. I promise you, I don't read it just like you drew it up,
Starting point is 01:03:03 how you explained us to do it in practice and it walked through. I'd have did it like that. But if you just so happened, that mophore move. I love doing that, A, Uncle Joe. You know, you come out at that huddle, they call it play Joe. You know, let's say, just for instance, for hypothetical sake, I got a curl route.
Starting point is 01:03:22 Yes. Coming out that goddamn huddle, Unk, I have in my mind on how I want to run that curl. I'm a business already planning in my head coming out the huddle. Now, once I line up, based on how you play me, I got about three or four ways I can run that goddamn curl. Yeah. Let me take it down to three.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Let me take it three different ways. You know, if he's off, if he's head up, if he's outside, if he's inside, I got ways to run it. Now, when that ball snapped, If we happen to move or they happen to rotate, then I got to be able to think on the fly, Joe. Yes, sir. I can't hesitate.
Starting point is 01:03:54 My quarterback got two seconds. Yeah, yeah. That's it. That's it. Facts. Facts. And then, hey, man, you, you, you're a little short on that. Did you see the last four plays?
Starting point is 01:04:06 Carson got hit in the back of his damn head. I can keep going. I can get to 12. But Carson's going to be looking out of their hole. We didn't throw it. Bro, I want, trust me, I want to get the depth. But I don't know if you notice, our offensive line ain't doing a good job
Starting point is 01:04:28 of picking them up right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So everything need to tie him up. When his back foot hit, I need to be coming out to break. Yes, sir. Yeah. But also, I don't need to be coming out to break before he ready to throw the ball.
Starting point is 01:04:42 Because all I did, because if I'm open and he's not ready to throw by the time, he's ready to throw, I'm cover. Yeah. That ain't no good. No. Think, hey, look, look, think about this. In basketball, you get 24-second shot clock.
Starting point is 01:04:56 So if you in-ball, in-bound the ball, and you bring it up, let's say you got 16 seconds left on the shot clock. Well, damn, we got to run our offense within 16 seconds and get a good damn shot. You know, I think when you've done it for so long, it's just second nature to you. but when you first get into it, bro, and you're trying to learn a new system and you got new guys you're dealing with, that damn clock get down to five seconds real quick. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:05:25 And you need guys who can get in their bag and really get to it. And those are the special ones, bro. Those are special ones, bro. Those are special. OkC got them. And that's what OKC has. Yep.
Starting point is 01:05:35 OC got guys. They're great system guys, but if the system breaks down, they got guys that can go get a bucket. Yep. and that's what you got to have. At the end of the day, yeah, I want to have a system
Starting point is 01:05:47 and the system is the triangle, free Florida and all this, but at the end of the day, it had Michael and it had Kobe. Yeah. It had two guys that I can throw the system out the damn window.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Yeah. And they can go make a plate. Yep. Because if the system don't work, and you got three, four seconds on that damn clock, you need a guy who don't panic in those situations
Starting point is 01:06:11 and can still get to the money. money. Yeah. And people talk, I love the West Coast system. I spent the better part of my, but look at the quarterback that's been in the West Coast system.
Starting point is 01:06:21 And you tell me if they played a role, Joe Montana, Steve Young, John Elway, Brent Barb, Aaron Rogers, Patrick Mahome. Are they any good? What about Matthew Stafford?
Starting point is 01:06:33 Yeah. Any good? Great. So I get the West Coast system. It's fine. Lovely. It is. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:41 One, two, three, one, two, three, four, five, one, two, three, four, five, six, the ball's out of your damn hand. You, hey, hey, we got something short, we got a shallow cross. We got the back running a wheel route. We got the tight end on the short cross. Hey, we got Ocho on a, on a, uh, a, uh, a, uh, a, uh, a, uh, a, uh, 10, rolled to 12.
Starting point is 01:06:57 We got somebody on the back side. We got all that. We got it's covered. Yeah. If you, look at the quarterback's just been in that system. If you're a receiver, you love that West Coast on. Yeah. Montana will start in Montana.
Starting point is 01:07:11 Then you had, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, Steve Young. Yeah. Then Mike brought up to John Elway. Brett Farb, Mike Homey took it up to Green Bay with Brett Farb. Then he left and then you had Mike Sherman. Mm-hmm. And then you had, what's the guy's name?
Starting point is 01:07:27 Mike McCarthy. Yeah. So he had Brett Farb and Aaron Rogers in that system. Guess who else in that system? Patrick Mahomes. Yeah. Guess who else in that system? Matthew Stafford.
Starting point is 01:07:41 Donovan Mitchell. Jordan Love. Hey, Joe, I ain't never had an opportunity playing that way. You ain't playing the West Coast? Nah. What you were playing there, Ojo?
Starting point is 01:07:52 Shoot, what that was? I'm just traditional, huh? Traditional, yeah. Oh, they didn't cheat in, my boy. They cheated you. No, no, they ain't cheat me, Joe. I was out there getting to, I was out there getting to the chicken, Joe.
Starting point is 01:08:02 Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I would get. And so, it's just, man, it's just, it might be a situation where sometimes the guy just too damn good. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:17 And that's okay to say. That's okay to say. And it might be a situation. We'll see the spurs got to bring everything. They got to throw everything they got at them. They're going to have to play harder, man. You know, I know. And smarter.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Yeah, it's cliche, but I just feel like ever since that game won, OKC has been different. Obviously, the physicality has been there, and they've been precise on. what it is they're trying to do. We got to, we gotta, we gotta,
Starting point is 01:08:45 we gotta, we gotta, we gotta take Wimby out this damn game, man. For sure. And I know he averaged it 20, 29 and what'd you say 15, oh, 29 and 15.
Starting point is 01:08:53 Yeah, I mean, that's, that's great now, but his supporting cast, them boy, we gotta limit them boy. We can't let them get off.
Starting point is 01:09:00 Man, I remember, I remember playing here for the Hawks. We played Orlando Magic. I don't, I think there was like 2000. This one, Dwight Howard was Dwight Howard.
Starting point is 01:09:08 You hear me? Okay, Ocho, okay, Ocho, When I tell y'all- A super-Man. Ocho, we had no answer for this man.
Starting point is 01:09:17 No, but guess what? Guess what we did? We said, damn it, we're just going to let him get 40 and 20. But we ain't going to let Turquilu. We ain't going to let Tirmid Nelson. We ain't going to let nothing. Them boys going to have about five points, seven points together. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:30 Right, yeah. Because we're going to stick on their head. We're going to let him throw it down to Dwight every time. He's going to eat. The rest of these boys ain't eat. Yeah. And that's how we was able to get up out there. Series.
Starting point is 01:09:40 Yeah. sometimes, bro, because you can't open up the floodgates with somebody like that. You go to Dublin, he kicking it out to his shooters. Yeah, you at his mercy now. Yeah, I met Donald McNabb. I think they said I said Donald and Mitchell. I meant Donald McNeilm because he had Andy Reid.
Starting point is 01:09:57 I mean, basically he had Andy Reed his whole career. That's all he ever known. Yeah. Yeah. Tom Habistro did a great piece on Shay and flopping. How often does Shay Alexander Fall compare? to his peers. You see on non-fowl, he falls on 187 shots.
Starting point is 01:10:18 He fell 20 times. That's almost 11%. And you can see the chart right there. Then with James Hardin, Jalen Brunson, Donaldman Mitchell, and Victor William Yama, only fell one time on 164 shots. On the ones he was filed, 37 shots, 19, over 51% of the time. Damn.
Starting point is 01:10:42 on all shots. Hey. Falling down depth, 17% of the time, Joe. Hey, that's, he's selling it, boy. Hey, you're trying. Hey, hey, from a, from a score standpoint, guys who love the score. Yeah. You look at the great ones, Arkansas, I ain't going to lie.
Starting point is 01:11:01 I never had that in my bag to, like, to be a, to be a foul seeker or none of that. I just enjoy, I just enjoy scoring the ball. But these guys, this is what you call greeting. You know what I mean? These guys agree. Hey, they want to score the ball by any men. The boy trying to get 30 every night, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:18 Yeah. Yeah, they ain't playing. So however I got to get it, you get too damn close to me when I shoot? Yeah, I'm hitting the deck. Mm-hmm. Yep. Hey, that's art in itself, too, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:28 You know, being able to do it, everybody can't do it. Yeah. Making it look like it's a foul. Yeah. I'd be to hurt my damn self, Ocho and Joe. Yeah. You're hitting the flow? Yeah, because you got to know how to hit the flow and slide.
Starting point is 01:11:41 Them guys, you said, they shoot it and they'd be sliding with it. Man, I'd be hitting them up one time. Oh, shit, damn. Yeah, yeah. You got, hey, it's knowing how to seek contact, bro. When they get in traffic and they play in a lot of traffic, they understand, they don't panic in those situations. They use different bodies to, like, kind of ping, bang off of.
Starting point is 01:12:03 You know, you reach in there, get your arm in that, yeah. That's their dream. They're gonna be flailing up through that. They got all kind of little tricks and trades. bro. Yeah. It's hard to it. It is. It is. But right now, the Spurs, hey, they're scratching the head.
Starting point is 01:12:20 They can't play better, any better than they play, say, the first eight, nine minutes of the game, Joe. Yeah. They can't play any better of that. But what happens is that when the stomach of the starters go to the bench, I don't know if the bench brought
Starting point is 01:12:35 that intensity, because I think they thought it was going to be sweet. Yeah. The OKC's Hey, man, hey, their bench came and say, hey, we got to, hey, we got to do something. We got to change the trajectory of this. Or this thing might get out. This thing might get bubble sparks. It might get ugly.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, think about it. You know, the success that the Spurs has had against the thunder throughout the regular season and beating them four one. Then you go in their house, win game one. Hell, yeah, you confident. We're going home. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Man, hell, we probably, we should go back to OKC, up three ones. It's probably what they were thinking. Yep. You know what I mean? but okay see had a they had a different plan bro they had a different plan they had guys step in and I'm talking about to play great basketball them guys off their bench they won you this game tonight as yeah was asked after the game of on the san antonio crowd chatting flopper it doesn't nothing doesn't fuel me doesn't discourage me it's part of the game I've been dealing with it for a long
Starting point is 01:13:34 time I don't really hear it hey someone like sGA a a joke is long as he's been playing the game, this is nothing that he just started doing. That art of being able to flop, that thought of being able to use your body and contort your body in the right ways to be able to get some of those files. Once you're aggressive, you put the ball on the floor. He'd been hearing that. This isn't nothing new. It's not like he just, you know, got this art of being able to, I hate using the word
Starting point is 01:14:00 foul bait, but I mean, that's what it is. So anything hearing from the crowd, man, he definitely don't care. Yeah, I think, I think, Uncle Ocho, I think he does hear him. And I think it fuels them. You know, sometimes, bro, we don't want to give up the secrets. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's like sometimes a lot of the great players, they can hear one little thing about them that's negative
Starting point is 01:14:22 and they can change it into a positive fuel to where they come out and try to be a different player. I think he hears it and he understands, bro. You know, hey, this is my job. This is what I do. I'm a two-time MVP, one-time champion. I'm going to show y'all. I'm going to show y'all why I'm arguably.
Starting point is 01:14:40 the best player in this league. But that's, look, we all hear the negative. It can be 80,000 fans cheering. Two people boo. What you hear, Ocho? The boo. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:56 You got 80,000 fans here. Ojo, Ojo! Two people, yeah. Ojo, you suck. Facts. Hey, I don't get be loud. It'd be clear.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Clear as hell too. Clear. All the cheer is just like harmonious. But it's like that in the comments. Yeah. Yeah. Man, we love you, Ocho. Man, we love you.
Starting point is 01:15:22 Man, Ocho, turn your light on. Man, Ocho, take your glasses off. But my glasses bother you? Right. Man, you gossiping. All you do is gossip, uh. Up like them old, like them old aunts, uh, back in the side of just gossiping.
Starting point is 01:15:42 I said, well, hell, Iran, they gossiping about Iran. They gossiping about Israel and Palestine. They gossiping. Yeah. Oh, that's different. Why is it different? So, and it, shade to come to the point like, bro, and if you play sports, you know, you ain't going to make everybody happy.
Starting point is 01:16:01 No, sir. You not. The only difference between now and way back then, everybody has social media, everybody going to put out, I don't like stuff, I don't like bronze, I don't like hard, I don't like Mitchell. I don't like shade with his foul bait and self. So forth a song. Now, probably a billion people got social media. Yeah. So you
Starting point is 01:16:23 got a billion different platforms that can disseminate. And sometimes people only put out stuff because I just need a couple of people to get, yeah, hey, man, I don't like this episode. Me either. I don't even know why he had this person on. Yeah. Well, you get you a podcast and you can put on whoever you want to. Yeah. I mean, it's simple.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Hey, everybody, if you don't like the person, I've never gone on. Who goes to a movie? Man, I can't stand this person, but you're watching the movie. Right. So you go watch a movie that you don't like the person that's acting in the movie, just so you can come out to movie and say, man, I ain't like that. I don't even like such or such. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:02 I get it. It's going nowhere. Yeah. Hey, I got a question too. Okay, hopefully I got an answer. You think about this, Joe. They complain about shade and the foul baiting. Did they complain about Hardin when he did it?
Starting point is 01:17:15 Yeah, they did. Did they complain about D. Wade when he did it? Because Dway did it too. He had a nice one now. Try to get you up in the air. No, Dway was known for his pump fake. That's in the Scoward report.
Starting point is 01:17:27 Hey, that's in the Sky report, Ocho. Hey, the one thing coaches to tell you, you fall for that damn pump fake, we fine in your ass. Yep. Don't go for that damn pump fake. Hey, the pump fake and the reject on D.
Starting point is 01:17:39 Yeah. Reject the pick and his ass going to pump fake. You get it. That's a guarantee. Yeah. Yeah. But Hardin. Yeah, Ocho,
Starting point is 01:17:48 guys stop even reaching on Hardin. They just play, play with their hands like that. You gotta play with your body. You know what I mean? He changed the game when he came to, you know, uh, uh, drawing files.
Starting point is 01:18:00 You know what I mean? I don't think it was more flailing. I don't think it was flailing on James part. I just think he was so crafty and sticking that ball out there. And you thinking you had a steel and he'd come up through your arms. You know what I mean? He was the best of that. Oh, Cho.
Starting point is 01:18:15 Somebody said, well, they ain't that many social media platforms out there. On YouTube, they say YouTube, there are 2.8 billion.
Starting point is 01:18:22 Damn. YouTube users. On Facebook, there are 3 billion monthly active users. On Instagram, 3 billion active users. And TikTok,
Starting point is 01:18:35 2 billion globally. So I was, I undersold it. I said a billion. Yeah. And everybody got a voice. It's hard for me to believe out of 8 billion people
Starting point is 01:18:47 there are not at least a billion platforms. Just being conservative, both, Joe. Obviously, you know, you're their kid, they're really old people that's not on social media and there's really, really young people that's not on social media.
Starting point is 01:18:59 But when you got that sweet spot, let's just say from the ages of, let's just do ages 12 to 55. You don't think it's a billion people that have that's on IG, X, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok. You don't think it's a billion people out there. I do.
Starting point is 01:19:18 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Why you think everybody trying to control it. Yeah. How do you get information out? Don't nobody watch the evening news anymore to get information. What are you going to get information from? Social media.
Starting point is 01:19:36 All you need is your phone. And guess what? I'm only going to the sites. that give me the type of information that I won't. Yeah. If I'm trying to learn how to bake a cake, why the hell I'm on a car, why I'm on an auto parts.
Starting point is 01:19:51 It's like, they're going to tell you about to make no damn cake. So I'm going to go to a site that's going to give me the information that I want to consume. Yeah. Yeah. But what I'm doing in the meantime, what I'm going to, I'm going to inundate you now.
Starting point is 01:20:05 Mm-hmm. Because I know, oh, oh, oh, Cho. Oh, don't you like to get on this thing by them from from nine to five. Okay, okay. Yeah. Yeah. I'll let you see what you want to see, but I'm going to put something up there.
Starting point is 01:20:17 Man, what they talk about? Man, what are they going on with this war? Man, damn. Inflation? Oh, man, they're about to raise interest waste a damn again. Hmm. I get you. I know you're going to be on there.
Starting point is 01:20:32 You can all ignore it so much, Ocho. You can only ignore it so much. The only way you can't get it, you got to put it down. Yep. Yeah, that's it. But if you're on there, I'm going to get you. I will get you. Todd Monkey was asked about the defensive plays made in practice.
Starting point is 01:20:46 A couple of interception, the forest fumble. Here's what he had to say, guys. Yeah. We threw interceptions in seven on seven for God, six. I mean, who does that? There's no pass rush. I mean, it's embarrassing. Is he being for real, Lord Joe?
Starting point is 01:21:06 Nah, no, hell, he's trolling. He definitely trolling. He got to be trolling. Because I play with John, and John threw interception and seven on seven. Hey, I would get ready to say the same thing. I've seen the greatest quarterback of all time during my tenure there in 707, throw interceptions. Yes.
Starting point is 01:21:22 I've seen Carson Palmer throw interception. I've seen the keyle Smith throwing the deception. Everyone throws interceptions in 707. I think you were trolling though. He had to be trolling. He got to be trolling. He got to be. He got me.
Starting point is 01:21:33 He got me. He got you. Yeah, yeah, he got to be trolling. They said he was. Oh, Joe. I mean, we are the guy. used to get boots. They would get gifts if they picked John off.
Starting point is 01:21:46 Oh, they're trying to get the pick. They're trying to get that money. Yeah. Oh, yes. Yeah, you got to think too. You know, and some guys, that was their game, Joe. Yes. Their game was Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Starting point is 01:22:01 That's their game. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I ain't feel like you make me look bad. Because guess what? If you make the guy, if you make that guy look too bad too often, They don't get his ass of fire and they're going to put somebody else in there. And I ain't telling what I'm telling you what somebody told me.
Starting point is 01:22:17 I'm telling you what I know I see it. Yeah. Damn. Hey, listen. I don't know what they got. I don't know what they think. I mean, what do they think? They're supposed to just let you complete passes?
Starting point is 01:22:32 Do you know they get paid on the other side of the ball too now? Man, what you're talking about? What you do, what you do, Uncle Joe, especially in 7-07, because there's no pass rush, you would like for the decision-making to be a little bit better. Yeah. Yes. Being that there's no pressure. But again, those that on the other side of the ball,
Starting point is 01:22:50 they get paid to play ball too. And it ain't going to be that easy every single time. But the problem is that what you got to do, Ocho, but it still has to be a clock. How many times do we say, bro, what do you think you were seven on seven? You're just going to sit by and pat the damn, bro? Playing around. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:06 That clock better go off in your damn head. Yeah. Absolutely. Hey, you, hey, you are up on. in the center and you got a route, that's obviously if it's a three step route, you throw in slants or you throw in spot routes, you know I'm saying, you throw it something quick.
Starting point is 01:23:24 But if it's a five step, hey, when that back foot hit, you know the coverage, that ball better come out. Okay, you keep on doing this right here and watch Miles Gap put his helmet right between your damn shoulders. Okay, so I don't know what he's up, oh, so you wanna have a pat, hold the guy,
Starting point is 01:23:42 just hold the ball. Mm-mm. That's exactly what's going to happen. And that's why you see guys, because they get so used to nine and seven-on-seven joke. Yeah. Isn't a pass rush? That's why you see guys helping off?
Starting point is 01:23:57 Like, bro, how do you not see that? Because in seven-on-seven, they told him to wait until somebody came open. Right. And the clock doesn't go off. Damn what I quarterback do. Uh-oh. You better throw that ball down or throw it out of bounds. Get your down here, rattles.
Starting point is 01:24:11 And hold on. And Coach Monkut better understand. nine. You know what defense he got over there? Where he got? What? That's a top three defense over there in Cleveland, Joe? Yeah, yeah. Man, the boys ain't no joke. You complain about interceptions. Understand who you got now. Know your personnel. I mean, you tell them, say, hey, you got to make your decision.
Starting point is 01:24:32 Obviously, you know, hey, the thing is, Joe, when Joe, what we did, the way we lived, we have, so we would have like, we'd have like four to five periods. Yeah. And it's 10 plays per person. period. Now, you can look and see, I never did, you can look and see what the coverage is versus the play that you're gonna run. Because you got, you know,
Starting point is 01:24:55 you're telling the defense, okay, we want you in this coverage. Yeah, right. What they run, this formation, this play this area of the field. So you know, so you could look and see. I ain't wanna look and see that cheating. I ain't gonna be, hey, hey, Greg, G. Lloyd,
Starting point is 01:25:09 what coverage all in? Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, Rick and so, Kevin Greed. That me and Crave were really green. We did brother lost some stuff. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, sharp, hey. All right.
Starting point is 01:25:21 Hey, hey, you see the pile coming? Pull me out the way. Hey, come on, Sharp. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good job, Sharp. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:32 Hey, hey, hey. It's just, hey, the thing is, in basketball, bro, like even in practice, we play five on five. Hell, the damn defense know all our damn plays. So they're cheating plays and all that. Yeah. Damn. Hey, I hate that.
Starting point is 01:25:45 Hey, Joe, I hate that, Joe. Come on, man, y'all already know what the hell we're running. You are already over there before I get my ass over that. I hate that. And don't, hey, Joe, don't let him make a play in practice. They get to celebrate. Oh, you see, there you go, Ocho. There you go, Ocho.
Starting point is 01:26:00 I hate that. See, now I'm mad. I'm bad. You know to play. What are you doing? Now, man. So now I got to go back in there, getting that link back. Right.
Starting point is 01:26:14 Hey, no, I ain't out. Come on. Hey, see, I used to like it with Seven get mad. Because, see, Seven get man, he called everybody back. Yeah, hey, Sharpie, Foots, Eddie. Come on. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:30 You're in trouble now. Yeah. You should have pissed seven off. Hey, it ain't like. Hey, it ain't like when practice gets a little spicy, though, boy. I'm talking about, yeah, yeah, hey, hey. Well, I'm trying to have been on some team. I'm talking about practice used to be so fun,
Starting point is 01:26:46 bro. I'm talking about competing at the highest level. Yeah. I'm talking about going at it. It's nothing better than that, bro. That's how you get done. You know what, Ocho, the best time, because don't nobody know nothing? Right.
Starting point is 01:26:58 Two minute. Oh, yeah, because everything unscripted. Yeah. Everything unscripted, Joe, so they can't cheat. They got to call everything on us. Why? You ain't got no pass. Oh, you could look at the sheet.
Starting point is 01:27:13 Yeah. Now you got your ass cooked. Yeah. You got to play honest. Yeah. But I first got, I first got back to Denver. And, you know, like I said, you can look at the card and see, oh, Tite is going to do this. Tid is going to do that.
Starting point is 01:27:28 Man, them joke was cheating their ass off. So you know, oh, Joe, you know, I'm a look. Hold on, this year 13 for me. Yeah. I ain't as quick. You know, I ain't as quick as I was. You know, look, you know, the quickness ain't what it used to be. But they're cheating.

Starting point is 01:28:31 But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 01:28:52 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 01:29:09 or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite on Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 01:29:33 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get. your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in
Starting point is 01:29:55 its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store. I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job.
Starting point is 01:30:11 I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever. you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 01:30:43 Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor.
Starting point is 01:30:55 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hippocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike!
Starting point is 01:31:09 I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary.
Starting point is 01:31:26 Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Coutura podcast network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 01:31:45 That's the worst. I think, you know, I remember my home house, in the back of the tight end. Goddamn, home boy, what going on? I said, man, house. He said, he'd look at the car. You say, I know.
Starting point is 01:32:02 Might say, two minutes. One versus the twos. Because normally I said, we go, we go ones versus the two. Yeah. And the office, the defense go one versus the two. Yeah. Cook them niggas right down the field.
Starting point is 01:32:16 I bet you we completed 10 passes. I called seven of them. I'm a dog tired. I'm talking about dog tired. Now you know I got to talk. Yeah. Oh, you really thought you could cover me, huh? That's right to get cut.
Starting point is 01:32:33 Yeah. You really thought that, bro. Do you know, they didn't tell you who I was? Yeah. They didn't tell you? You better check my resume. But don't worry about it. You're going to find out from that point on.
Starting point is 01:32:45 Hey, man, no, we ain't fit to make it look good. I'm going to cook you every chance you get. I'm going to try to get you cut. Yeah, yeah. You want to come out here because, you know, hey, I'm still Shannon Sharp now. I'm still 84. Yeah. Pro bowler, eight pro bowls, all these, all decades.
Starting point is 01:33:01 So, you know, they're trying to make a name off me. Yeah. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. You ain't going to make no name up. You ain't fit to get no rep off Shannon. That's not going to happen. So now I got to, I'm trying to get you cut. That's my purpose.
Starting point is 01:33:14 Every day in practice that you go against me, I'm trying to get you cut. Right, right. Mm. Hey, I ain't mad at you, bro. No. Because you started this. You could have just left me alone.
Starting point is 01:33:30 Mm-hmm. And the funny thing about it, too, Uncle Joe, with Unk talking the way he's talking and trying to get him cut, matter of fact, players that are trying to make a team, if you look good against the ones enough times, you will get a job. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:43 Thank you. You get a job off that. Yeah. Yes. Oh, we got to keep him. Well, he looked good against 84. We got to find, we got to find a spot for him. I got cut my rookie year.
Starting point is 01:33:57 We playing the Raiders. Yeah. Because you know, Ocho, you know, hey, I was, I was a wide receiver then. Mm-hmm. I had Tim Brown number. I had Tim Brown. That Tim Brown. He had the 81?
Starting point is 01:34:08 Had the 81 on. But I would, like, move with the ball. So I might be, the only person I wasn't going to be was Sam Grady. Sam Grady. which he won the silver medal in the 100 meters. I couldn't be him. But I could be Tim Brown. So I was Tim Brown.
Starting point is 01:34:23 I went deep like three times in a row. I went deep, I went deep twice on Wednesday. I went deep Monday. Then I went deep twice on Friday. You know Friday practice, everything's will be buttoned up. And Fas, yeah. Friday afternoon, he was gone. Mm.
Starting point is 01:34:38 Ooh, fast Friday. You got you know. They look at it like, hold on, this a rookie. This ain't Tim Brown. Yeah. So what you say Tim Brown gonna do? Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, when they, hey, I know what you're talking about.
Starting point is 01:34:50 They put you in that situation. They say, hey, we need you to play COVID today or we need you to be AI today. Yep. So look, we had a guy, we had him to be AI, and it's like, you don't even get to think. You just play. You shoot, shoot when you want to. Oh, that boy carved us up one day. I'm talking about, I'm talking about Carl that's up because you just, you ain't got a thing.
Starting point is 01:35:11 You just catch the ball. You get to do what you want. Right. Once you got to put some thought into that, that's what guys started to mess up. But I know exactly what you're saying. Boy, they tell you somebody, you go out there, yo, I'm talking about you go off.
Starting point is 01:35:26 That's Rod Smith. That's how Rod Smith made the team. Rod Smith came by and one day he was the Raiders. You know, he was a rocket. They said, we call him Bottle Rocket. Yeah, right. Say, get him bottle rocket. Because he was Rocky.
Starting point is 01:35:40 Oh, yeah, we call him Slim Rice because he was Jerry. Hey. was cooking everybody. Yeah, they're right to put Futs in the game. First game, Futs ever played in. Yeah. Five seconds on the clock, a three by one, put him on the backside, matched up against Daryl.
Starting point is 01:35:58 Ooh. He was a 40-yard, Harold Mary. He jumped over the top of him and caught it. Damn. DG, too short. He were too short. Damn. Ever since then,
Starting point is 01:36:08 he played, he played. That was in 95. 96 he backed up 97 they got rid of the starter foot's been in the start line up ever since ever since I remember Ed McCaffrey unc man and his arm was so big with them little tiny ass shoulder pads his shoulder pad looked like they were full of uh a little he's an end man he's eight man and Ed had kicker shoulder pads
Starting point is 01:36:35 that's what it was yeah why is that this part this part of his shoulder like it they wouldn't even cover right no like most like most everybody shoulder pads covered it so not ed's ed's when they so flimsy you're right the other shoulder plans was so they was like they were probably he might have had uh christian's shoulder pads his son yeah hey you know who else did that remember michael bennett remember michael bennett yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but that but but ed always we uh cut the pants up we cut the we're the one the first one to take all the line out of our pants all that stuff that y'all they got that they got that from us. Yeah. I saw Ricky Jackson do it.
Starting point is 01:37:16 Ricky Jackson was the first person I saw wearing no pads in his pants. Yeah. And I always said, man, if I ever become good, I'm definitely doing that. How you do to how you play without no pads in your pants? Man, you got to be able to move, Joe. You got a better move, Joe. Yeah, all that's what you a age, Joe. I have no, I had a helmet and shoulder pads. No mouthpiece, no hip pass, no thigh pass, no knee pads. Hold on. So, so, so when somebody hit your head, you feel it a little
Starting point is 01:37:42 more, right? All right? Yeah, you feel it. But good luck. And your pants, they were like, they were like tights. Yeah, that's it.
Starting point is 01:37:49 Your compression pants, that's under your, yeah. Yeah. That's what our pants was like. Street line. They don't let you do that down, you know,
Starting point is 01:38:04 you got to wear a pants. Yeah. I'm about concussion. I said, I ain't never got hitting the thigh and my head hurt. No. You know,
Starting point is 01:38:11 you know, I like what they do. If you see some of the, if you see some of the receivers, huh? It just, it's real flimsy. it's a little film. And sometimes they have a little design on it.
Starting point is 01:38:21 Yes. It won't really be nothing. Yeah. In college, we used to put pre-wrap. We used pre-rap. Damn. For real? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:30 Hey, man, you know, we had a little, we tried to look. Hey, man, you know how we tried to do. Try to be clean. Man, we played, because, you know, we saw the guys, because Jared Rice was the one, Jerry Rice used to have a tower. He had flash on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:45 Man, we had a, fullback, he saw Jerry Rice, this joke of them got a whole beach tower. So he in his stance, the tower dragging the ground on Joe Joe. I swear to go. He turned the corner and the guy caught it, caught the tower. Cause the towers. You can't just laugh because there's a goddamn old day and shit off. And that's why they say,
Starting point is 01:39:16 they're very impressionable because whatever they see them NFL players where oh yeah college high school they do it they're gonna try to do that because we saw guys whatever they did in the NFL that's what we tried to do right right but he just saw the towel man that joke got a beach towel the towel he in the stand the towel on the ground man man over the day that I was talking to a bucket the other day bucket the other day Bucky said, man, hey, old boy, you remember such and suck? I said, yeah, I remember that.
Starting point is 01:39:51 But I don't know what Todd Monkey is thinking about Ocho. Nah, hey, he's trolling. He's got to be. Unless that's the way for him to motivate his quarterback, and that's the only thing I can think of. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
Starting point is 01:40:06 I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
