Hopefully, thankfully, clothing company 84 the link to nightcap merch is pinned at the top of the chat use code ump discount applies on everything hopefully thankfully everyone has received their merch by now and uh thank you hopefully you enjoy the quality we got more pieces coming out in the very very near future oh show before we get into today's olymp. Today, we need to talk. Yes, sir. We got to talk. Okay, we got to talk.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Ocho, you and I, I think it was Monday. Yeah. Was it Monday? I think, was it Monday? Was it Monday or Sunday? It was Monday. It was Monday. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Okay. Sunday. It was Sunday, Ocho. It was Sunday. Okay. Yes, sir. Because we were looking at the discrepancy between some countries playing where they pay gold medal recipients and what the U.S.
Starting point is 00:05:28 pays and you and I was like man that's a damn shame you and I listed because track and field is our favorite Olympic event we listed we listed I said Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri
Starting point is 00:05:44 Richards, or Rob Benjamin Sidney McLaughlin listed we listed I said no allows Sha'Carri Richards Rob Benjamin, Sidney McLaughlin if you win gold I got 25,000 Ocho you then said I'll match that I got 25,000 I'ma match it then later in the thing I said
Starting point is 00:05:59 you know what I like Grant Holloway he and I kind of DM you know I'm congratulating him on being world champion three times. So he and I kind of going, been going back and forth over the years, not recently, but over the years. Hey,
Starting point is 00:06:14 thanks for the support. I really love what you guys do. And I say, and I threw in Grant Holloway. I said, Grant Holloway wins gold medal. I got 25,000 for him. Somehow,
Starting point is 00:06:24 a lot of news articles said Chad Johnson and Ocho Cinco Johnson and Shannon Sharp said they'll pay twenty five thousand for any American that wins gold when that's not what we said. So they took what we said out of context without listening. That's why sometimes when you read, you got a proofread and use one finger. Yes. Like, like when I read a lot of times,
Starting point is 00:06:50 when I read on show, I'm using my finger. I'll make sure I'm going. Everyone received their merch by now. The reviews are as expected. Thank you guys for that. And hopefully the quality is meet, meet your standard.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah. That's what we say. I did say any American that sets a world record, I got 50 bands. I said any American. Hey, weightlifting, I don't care what it is, running a band, whatever the case may be. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I'm coming out of my pocket with all of it anyway. We are coming out of our own pocket. This is not, we ain't got no sponsor saying, okay, y'all do this. And yet we're going to funnel the money through y'all. That's not what we're doing. This is our own money.
Starting point is 00:07:32 And if five Americans hit world records, okay, obviously they're going to get gold. So they're going to get 75,000, whatever, five times 75. Yes. That's what we said.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I don't know where the confusion, I don't think what, what, what I can, what, uh, uh, That's what we said. I don't know where the confusion. I don't think what what what I can what what what what what's being what's being what's want to hear. Sometimes when you say things, people hear what they want to hear and then make it bigger than what it really is instead of listening to the facts in which you had stated. But go ahead. I'm gonna let you finish. that was the case why even why why even throw out any names because clearly they're not the only americans that's in track and field we took 591 athletes yes sir so clearly there there are more than just track and field athletes there's table tennis there's badminton there's shooting there's the triathlon there's a marathon there's so many events we specifically named the ones and we got some flack because people said those athletes have endorsements uh oh joe so why y'all doing that for them my retort was look those are my favorite events the world's fastest man the world's fastest woman woman yes because i've kind of been going back and forth with the Jamaicans.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Now, we found out today, Sharika Jackson pulled out of the 100 meters. She's still in the 200 meters. Right. We're going to talk about that. But that's what I said. We said, that's what I said. We said, I said 25,000 for four people. I later came back and added Grant Holloway.
Starting point is 00:09:25 You said, oh, I'll match it. Yeah. I said, cool, fine. And then I wake up. Then I said, Ash, do you see this? Ash said, what? I said, they're saying we're going to pay $25,000 for any American that wins the gold medal. That wasn't what we said.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I said that any American that breaks a world record, I'll run you 50 bands. Now, this is the thing. Now, this is the thing. If any one of our last names happen to be Bezos or happen to be Gates or Slim, for that matter, then I'm talking about Carlos Slim. Carlos Slim, yeah. I know who you're talking about. Then, if we have 591 athletes, as generous as I am, as generous as Unc is,
Starting point is 00:10:10 and you know, I don't spend no money, so you know I'm not playing when it comes to the business of those that are representing our country. Then, hell, if we got 591 athletes, anybody getting gold,
Starting point is 00:10:18 I definitely, you think the pot would be 25? I got 100 pounds on top of what you get. Oh, man. Boy, listen. What? God knew what he was doing, not blessing me with what you get. Oh, man. Boy, listen. What? God knew what he was doing, not blessing me with that kind of money like Bedros and Gates.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Because everybody that won gold at USA, I would have made the goddamn bonus. I would have made it a million. That would have been nothing. Right. So that's where we are. Sorry for any confusion on your part. I said any American that breaks a world record, I'll run you 50 bands, regardless of the event. Ocho and I said we'll pay $25,000.
Starting point is 00:10:57 We named the athletes. Go back and listen to the footage and see what we said. So, I want to apologize for any confusion on my part, on Ocho's part, or what you thought you may have heard. We ain't trying to duck nothing. Yeah. Like I said, if five, if ten Americans
Starting point is 00:11:17 set world records, that's $500,000 that's coming out of my pocket plus the gold and track. No, no, my pocket plus the gold and track. No, no, no, no. No, any American, I'm going to run you your money. Yeah, I like it.
Starting point is 00:11:33 The fact, you shouldn't even have to apologize. You shouldn't have to apologize because you said what you said. Simone broke a record. I didn't say for breaking a record. I said, a world record. Yes. She doesn't have the most metal.
Starting point is 00:11:47 She doesn't have the most Olympic medal. Latissa Latina does. Man. Look, I'm not going back and forth with y'all. Y'all not going to tell me how to spend my money. Okay. Oh,
Starting point is 00:11:55 come on. Joe. And I said, track and field. Okay. Y'all look, y'all pick y'all event. And y'all say whatever,
Starting point is 00:12:01 whatever athlete, whether, whatever the case may be, boxing, wrestling, Taekwondo, judo, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle. Y'all say, you know what? I got an extra $1,000. I got an extra $2,500.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I'm not going to go back and forth with y'all. I know what I said. I'm going to stand by what I said. Sha'Carri Richardson. Sha'Carri. Noah Lyles. Noah Lyles. Sidney McLaughlin. Who else did we say?
Starting point is 00:12:28 Ryan Benjamin, Grant Holloway. Those are the five. You win gold, I'm going to run you $25,000. One of you guys hit the world record, I'm going to send you $75,000. Ochoa going to run you, so that's $100,000 on top of the gold medal plus what the U.S. is going to give you for winning gold. That's where we are right now. I'm ready to go back and forth with y'all.
Starting point is 00:12:47 The funny thing is the fact that we're doing something good out of the graciousness of our heart, you know, out of our hard-earned money. You know, this ain't no free money. Money ain't growing off trees now. You know, I got 50, 11 goddamn kids I got to take care of. I got a missus I got to take care of. And they turned it into a negative
Starting point is 00:13:04 when we just trying to show love because we don't think the U.S. set a precedent on representing our country and being compensated in a manner that represents us in general. That's all. That's all, baby.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Because here's the thing, Ocho, you know how it is. No good deed goes unpunished. Yes, sir. No good deed goes, you thing, Ocho, you know how it is. No good deed goes unpunished. Yes, sir. No good deed goes, you know, moving forward, you know what we're going to do, Ocho? Yes, sir. That's on me. Because I should have handled it like I handle all the stuff.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Anything I do, you never hear about it. Because the one thing that I always ask the organization in which I give to, the school I give to or the foundation that I give to you could never say where this money came from I should have kept my damn mouth shut we could we could have had this conversation offline Ocho Ocho you know what if Rob Benjamin wins if Sidney McLaughlin wins if Noah Liza security or Grant Holloway let's come together let's give them 50 an extra 55 if they want to mention something about it, I would prefer y'all don't mention anything about it. But hey, if you want to mention it, that's
Starting point is 00:14:09 on you. That's what we should, that's on me Ocho, because I'm very, very private in that aspect. I do give you don't do anything for your community. You don't know what I do because they're under strict instructions not to tell because I don't do things for you to, oh man, you see what
Starting point is 00:14:25 Shannon Sharp did? You see what Ong did? That's not why I did. Yeah. I mean, we got caught in the moment though. We got caught in the moment and talking about the topic on what we were getting compared to other countries. So in the moment of everything, then that's what we decided to do. That's all.
Starting point is 00:14:42 So there's no fault in that and there's no reason to apologize, but doing something good out the graciousness of our heart based on what we saw in that moment. She broke the world record. I would have gotten her information. I have an outstanding agency. I'm represented by WME. I guarantee you they could have got Kayla Decker's information. Kayla Decker would have gotten her money. Anybody, any American in any event, you break a world record, I'm going to run you your money. It's really that simple. But the five people that we mentioned, if you win gold, Ochoa and I got $ i got 50 000 combined for you that's the end of
Starting point is 00:15:26 that i'm not going to discuss it anymore i know what i said i know what i ocho i know what you said i know what we were trying to do but like i said no good deed goes unpunished ocho let's move it along well you better than me because I wouldn't explain nothing. You better than me. I wouldn't explain nothing. Shit. I like to. You know what? Because sometimes I know
Starting point is 00:15:55 because I know what I said. Well, if that was the case, why the hell did we list track and field? Why did we call out? Why didn't I say Ryan Krauser? Why didn't I say Valerie Ullman why did I say Bryce Hopper why did I name anybody else why did I say Emma Hall
Starting point is 00:16:11 why did I say why did I say I didn't say Kenny Bannera I didn't say Gabby Thomas we said specific names for a reason I didn't say Gabby Thomas. I didn't say any. We say specific names for a reason. They hear what they want.
Starting point is 00:16:27 I didn't say Caleb Dressel. I didn't say Caleb Ledecky. So if that's the case, why are we saying? Why are we calling out specific names? It's like you're in a classroom. You're not supposed to blurt out the answer. You're supposed to, when you raise your hand, the teacher calls your name. If she calls your name, she's talking to you're in a classroom. You're not supposed to blurt out the answer. You're supposed to, when you raise your hand,
Starting point is 00:16:45 the teacher calls your name. If she calls your name, she's talking to you. Yes, sir. Unless there's more. I mean, I was in a classroom. We had three Rickys. So, you know, she had to be Ricky this, Ricky that, Ricky this.
Starting point is 00:16:58 But, man, I'm moving on. Oh, so let's move on. I'm hype. Team USA beat South Sudan 103-86. Jason Tatum started. After not playing in the game against Serbia, he had four points. Joel Embiid, who started against Serbia, did not play at all. Bam, bada, bam, bada, bam, was the U.S. high score with 16 points.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Excuse me. LeBron James finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He became the third player in U.S. history to score over 300 points for the national team in his career, joining KD and Kevin Durant. Steph Curry struggles from the floor.
Starting point is 00:17:37 He was one of nine from the field, scored just three points, and he missed all six of his three-point tries. Ocho. What happened? What's up? He could have to do a better job. How you go, okay. You don't play Jason Tatum none, you're starting.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Joel Embiid start, and now this game, you don't play him none. Can we find a balance, Ocho? I think the balance is, you got to think about this, Unc. So Jason Tatum didn't play, right? Right. Think about Embiid, his knees. He might be still a little injured, might be a little hobbled. He started last game, okay, sitting in this game.
Starting point is 00:18:13 The bench is so strong. We talk about we have the best players in the USA playing on this team. Sometimes you can sit and you can pick up the production from other places. KD didn't play fairly well. Steph Curry didn't play fairly well, but everyone else around him did. Katie had 14 points. He was 2 of 5. He wasn't scorching hot, but he was 2 of 2
Starting point is 00:18:34 from the free-throw line. He was 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. That's where the points came from. Yeah. So he had 14. They got 18 points from Bam off the bench. They got 13 points from Ant-Man off the bench. They got 10 points from Bam off the bench. They got 13 points from Ant-Man off the bench. They got 10 points. Man, Derek White was three for three from the three-point line.
Starting point is 00:18:52 They got 10 points from him off the bench. Devin Booker chipped in with 10. LeBron James chipped in with 10. Anthony Davis had eight. So, look. It's coming from everywhere, though. You're getting points from everybody. Everybody's putting putting in there isn't anybody dominating the game week in and week out when they do play that i think that's the great thing and the exciting thing about this
Starting point is 00:19:14 team is you don't know who's going to have the hot hand even if a person doesn't have the hot hand everybody's scoring and contributing in their own way i think are we going to talk about jason tatum when he said look I won the championship. I got a $300 million contract. I'm going to cover 2K Sports Illustrated. He said, yeah, it was very humbling. Oh. He said it was very humbling.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Talking about not playing an entire. Right. Ocho. You mean, think about it, Ocho. Yeah. I'll give you a prime example. Walter Payton. Rest his soul.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Walter Payton was so upset because on the one-yard line, think about all the years when all they had was Walter Payton. You get the ball on the one-yard line and you turn around and you bring a refrigerator pair in the game
Starting point is 00:20:04 and you don't let Walter Pay Refrigerator Perry in the game, and you don't let Walter Payton. How many times have you seen Walter Payton go over the top, Ocho? Every time. And you throw, he should be, oh, they won. What? Yeah. That's Walter Payton. He ain't getting out of the top two or three of greatest running backs ever.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And nobody really saw this coming in the early 70s because when they were lean years and they really had nothing, he was the best player. And he was the best, one of the best players in the NFL. And you mean to tell me, and you know this is it for him.
Starting point is 00:20:36 He's at the end of the line, Ocho. Yes, sir. You're not going to get that man that ball at the one yard line, Ocho. Hell, shoot. We got another. We got another example of that. Now, I'm not sure if it's a humbling experience, but hell, it cost a team a Super Bowl on the
Starting point is 00:20:49 one yard line. Thank you. Over there in Seattle. I'm not sure who made that call, but if I was Russell Wilson, I would have had two Super Bowls and I would have overrode the call that came in to throw that ball on that switch release. Yeah. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:21:01 I'm at the line of scrimmage with the game on the line. I'm giving it to the beast. I. Oh, no. I'm at the line of scrimmage with the game on the line. I'm giving it to the beast. I'm giving it to. I'm handing it off to Marshawn Lynch. I'm pointing to my head and saying, I can't hear what you call. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:21:17 It sounds like booger to me. Super Bowl on the line. Switch release on the one-yard line. There's not even any room to run the play oh joe you know brandon browner yeah once you see brandon browner in a press position it's over play is off it's over it's off because the whole objective is for him to run interference once he can't run interference mal Malcolm Butler got a beeline. See, once Malcolm Butler doesn't have to bubble, it's over.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's just like when you try to run a pick. What you try to do, don't say pick, rub. When you try to run a rub, right, Ocho, you're trying to make the guy bubble. If the guy can jetcho, you're trying to make the guy bubble. But if the guy can jet it, you're done. You've got to be able to push the guy to make him go over the top.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Once he ain't got to go over the top, and he can jet that, he can come up underneath it. Once I look at this and I look at the slide, I'm like, oh, hell, we done. Because Brandon Brown, you know he's going to press, and he's going to hold, and they're going to let you hold because he inside the five-yard margin.
Starting point is 00:22:29 So even if he's holding like he normally does, they ain't going to call it. Uh-uh. Not in that situation. So people, you got to, oh, I'm telling you, guys, a lot of times when Ocho and I talk about certain things, we're talking about through personal experience. We're talking about guys that played at an extremely high level.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Ocho is a multiple-time All-Pro, a multiple-time Pro Bowl player. Myself, I'm a multiple-time All-Pro, a multiple-time Pro Bowl player. I'm in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I'm a first-team All-Decade player. I'm not telling you something. I'm telling
Starting point is 00:23:04 you, I know how I would have felt. And these guys that I'm talking about, they're greater and more accomplished than I. The greater the person, the more pride he or she has. I'm not telling you what somebody
Starting point is 00:23:19 told me. I'm telling you what I know. I've spoken to a lot of guys that have a lot more cachet, has more Pro Bowls and All Pros, and are greater than Shannon Sharp could have ever been. And I'm telling you,
Starting point is 00:23:36 they never say stuff publicly, but I'm telling you what they've shared. I'm telling you guys, that bothered Jason Tatum for you to say, oh, all he wants to do is win what y'all really believe that no y'all don't y'all just want to go against what Ocho and I say
Starting point is 00:23:52 that's what y'all do y'all don't believe that just like Marshawn Lynch he was hurt he's like hold on I done ran y'all ass down here y'all been giving it to me and now we won y'all not to say Tom brady does get the ball last ocho ain't no guarantee but put him in a situation where he gotta go get a touchdown
Starting point is 00:24:12 to beat you he gonna get he gonna get he gonna get it okay i want to see him get it i tell you what did not what's not gonna happen we're not gonna lose lose the game with Tom Brady on the sideline. How about that? How about that, Ochoa? If I lose the game with Tom Brady on the field, hell, he done did it to so many other people. But there have been very few times that you've seen New England Patriots win a game in which Tom Brady wasn't on the field.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Or he did something to put them in position. Yeah, we've seen Adam Benatary kick those two field goals against St. Louis and against Carolina. We've seen him do that. We've seen him put Gostkowski in situation. But normally Brady has had some hand in it. In it. When he didn't have a position to kick that field goal. That's crazy, man. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content. The term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:26:06 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask...
Starting point is 00:26:38 I'm Leon Nafak, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So, Ocho, we got some beef with the United States gymnastics after winning yet another
Starting point is 00:27:29 Olympic gold medal team USA women's gymnastic on Tuesday Simone Biles called out her 2021 Olympic team weight on her Instagram captioning her post with lack of talent lazy Olympic champion this stems from Michaela Skinner criticizing the new roster of American women's gymnasts, specifically calling out their lack of talent and work ethic.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Let's listen to what she had to say. Okay. But besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn't like what it used to be. I just noticed, like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don't work as hard. The girls just don't like what it used to be just notice like I mean obviously a lot of girls don't work as hard the girls just don't have the work ethic like and it's hard too because it's safe sport like coaches can't get on athletes and they have to be really careful what they say which in some ways is really good but at the same time to get to where you need to be in gymnastics you do have to be I feel like a little aggressive and a little intense because I feel like you know
Starting point is 00:28:24 Russia is not going to be there so they don't have to have the stress feel like, a little aggressive and a little intense because I feel like, you know, Russia is not going to be there. So they don't have to have the stress of Russia. And then what other teams really are there? I mean, there's a lot of teams that have gotten better and have gotten stronger. But I feel like no matter what, as long as we do a decent job, we'll be fine. Even just some of the other girls that fell twice and still ending up in second place in the all-around is just kind of crazy to me. Is it Haisley or Hesley?
Starting point is 00:28:47 Hesley. I mean... Oh, she blocked them. Yeah. Hey, listen. There was no need for that. There was no need for that. The young ladies that they took to the Olympics
Starting point is 00:29:04 was the best that they had all right maybe it is a little different maybe you can't coach as hard as you want to anymore in order to get there you got to have some type of work ethic or you wouldn't even be a part of the goddamn team especially in gymnastics oh joe hold on so how did she how did mckayla uh uh think that simone was gonna that's a teammate oh joe yeah our teammates might be dead ass wrong bro you wrong but outwardly we're gonna support you not fit to talk about oh man nightcap man oh joe you're not fit to talk about oh joe that's my partner yeah yeah what kind of boy what kind of boy job is that? So she thought, even, now think about it. She said outside of Simone.
Starting point is 00:29:47 But Simone's like, no, ain't no outside. We're the USA women's gymnastic team. You know what it's saying? It didn't say anything about the United States Simone Biles. They said the United States gymnastics team, which means Charles and Lee and all those young ladies, they're a part of the team. So she took it as a
Starting point is 00:30:07 slight to say, well, hold on. You're criticizing my teammates. Yeah, most definitely. And you didn't even have to say that publicly. You didn't even have to make that. You didn't have to make that. There was no need for that. If anything, constructive criticism. If anything, how about support?
Starting point is 00:30:26 So think about what she did. Oh, joe she since deleted the video from youtube but she had time to block simone so you ain't you so you took time so you have a lot of time on your hand today miss skinner yeah uh you took time you're like uh let me delete that she probably got how many views did she have with that thing at the time of delete we won't know now because she deleted it. But I'm sure she had because everybody was talking reckless about Simone Biles. Oh, she quit. Oh, she this. She was trending. They were talking about the woman's
Starting point is 00:30:54 hair. How do you think? Listen, it opens up. When you do something like that, it opens up a whole other can of worms that has nothing to do with gymnastics in general and what they're doing out there in Paris. But let me ask you a question, Ocho. I'm going to give you one guess. Who do you think was making comments about Simone Biles' hair?
Starting point is 00:31:10 Man, who else? Yeah, you know, I'm not into baiting, but who else? You know who. So what, she's supposed to go out there with a full lace front? That thing ain't that. Come on, man. Come on, people! So y'all want to have a knife? Y'all want to have some what they call them French manicure
Starting point is 00:31:26 French nails right right right how the hell she gonna do all that tumbling hold on to that bar come on do all that flipping with a full set of nails yeah and a lace front the first time she hit that the first time she hit one of the flips that thing gonna go
Starting point is 00:31:42 one of the judges head we need to stop man the first time she hit one of the flips, that thing gonna go into one of the judges' heads. Man, we need to stop, man. We need to stop fighting folks, especially with our old man. I mean, she's the best. She's the best. You can make a case that she might be the best gymnast, male or female,
Starting point is 00:31:59 in the history of the game. She's American. She's African-American, Black-American, whatever you want to call it. She has an unbelievable story putting a foster care because her mom was dealing with some issues adopted by her paternal grandparents.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Man, that took all of... Man, it was amazing. She has an amazing story. Yeah. And so, you know what? This is our opportunity. Let's talk about her here. Man, look at that hairstyle.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Really? Really? That's where we are? You know, one thing they're gonna do whoever's at the top they gonna nitpick now you know they're gonna they're gonna find something they're gonna always find something no matter what what no matter what that's why that's why her even coming out with a video like that and not understanding the ramifications and the consequences of what she was doing chastising everybody you know they, they're going to talk about it. They said the same thing about Gabby Douglas when she won. Was that in 2012?
Starting point is 00:32:53 The nickname of the flying squirrel. They talked about, oh, she couldn't. Bro, do y'all realize in sports, especially a sport like that, man, the women try. They're going out there. Y'all don't say nothing about guys. Y'all don't be telling the guys to get their hair done.
Starting point is 00:33:09 Let the women compete. And then when she wants to go out with I don't know if Gabby Douglas is mad, but when Simone goes out with her husband and they step out, I'm sure her hair is laid. She would have probably spent three, four hours at the
Starting point is 00:33:24 hairdresser. Is that what they still call them, hairdressers? I'm showing my age, Ocho. Hair salon, hair salon, hair salon. I'm showing my age, Ocho. The hair salon. Ocho, let me tell you a story, Ocho. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:33:41 You know, I'm busy. I'm in Vegas last couple of weeks and seeing if I like it. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out, time out, Ocho. Yes, sir. You know, I'm busy. I'm in Vegas last couple of weeks and seeing if I like it. Thinking about moving here. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out, time out, time out. You done started off a story and breaking news that you were? No, I'm in Vegas. I ain't here yet, but I'm seeing if I'm going to like it.
Starting point is 00:33:58 So why you ain't, I couldn't get an invite to Vegas? I like Vegas. I mean, since I've been here in the three weeks that I've been here trying to figure out whether I'm going to like it, the average temperature has been between 105 and 120. Okay. I like the heat. I like the sun.
Starting point is 00:34:14 I like the tan. It doesn't bother me because when I go outside, I got on my hoodie. You know, I got on my long sleeves, and everybody's looking at me like I'm crazy. So, you know, I need to get my nails done. I got something going on tomorrow. I got to shoot a commercial. So, I say, Ocho, you know, I need to get my nails done. I got something going on tomorrow. I got to shoot a commercial. So I say, you know what? I'm going to go get my nails done.
Starting point is 00:34:29 I'm going to get my nails done. So I say, you know what? I'm going to go in this little Asian shop. Ain't nobody going to know me. It's probably about 530 in the afternoon. Ain't nobody. So I go in there. I said, I'd like to get a manicure and pedicure.
Starting point is 00:34:42 They said, it'd be 20 minutes. I was like, nah, I'm good. So I get to the car. And Ocho, remember I told you I try to work on patience. That's one thing. And I'm starting to drive off. And the thing said, Shanna, walk-in appointments are welcome. They didn't say you was going to walk your black ass in
Starting point is 00:34:58 and sit right in the chair. I cut the car off. I go back inside. I said, ma'am, I'll wait. I said, ma'am, I'll wait 20 minutes. There we go. OK, there we go. Ocho. About five minutes later, the lady comes whisper to me. You from the TV. I say, excuse me, ma'am. Ocho. I said, excuse me, ma'am. Hold on. Let me let me let me let me put things into perspective. You in an Asian spot, right?
Starting point is 00:35:26 Asian nail salon, yes. Hey, well, you know you're famous now, boy. Go ahead. So she comes and she say, you from the TV. Yeah. I said, excuse me, ma'am? She say, I see you on TV. I know you.
Starting point is 00:35:39 OK. I say, damn. Ocho. So like two, three minutes later, the other five come. They pull their phone out. They done Googled me. They done pulled me up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Ocho, by the end of the thing, I'm taking videos. I'm taking pictures. I'm talking. Pictures. Oh, yeah, you good, man. You good. So now anytime you go there, anytime you go there, you good. If there is a line, if there is a wait, guess what?
Starting point is 00:36:07 You ain't got to wait no more. And so the lady that did me, because normally, I mean, and they did it. She did a great job. Her name, her American name, because obviously she got one of those Asian names that's probably like 15, 17, 18, 20 letters long. She said my name. She said,
Starting point is 00:36:26 Maria. Hey! Hi. How you doing? I'm good. I'm a little track runner from Kentucky. Oh, okay. So the one that did my nails, she said no good English. So I
Starting point is 00:36:42 saw her. I said, that's perfect. Thank you. But I said, that's perfect. Thank you. But she, but you say, my name Maria. Okay. I said, how your name Maria? You talking about you don't speak your name Maria.
Starting point is 00:36:55 So she got a, she got a car, a work car at the back of the thing. Man, that thing got, got V H V U. I'm like, I don't know. I don't know what a real name is. But don't try to believe that.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Man, I just put my head down. That lady came over to me. I'm just sitting down. And she said, you from the TV. I said. Hey, listen. Listen, that's a testament now. That's a testament to the hard work and everything you put in.
Starting point is 00:37:19 And the visibility, the exposure. And you crossing over. To be able to go into an Asian establishment and everyone recognize who you are, man, shit. I wish, hey, now you can go to Korea. Remember you on that globe?
Starting point is 00:37:35 Hey, you can go to Korea because they know who you are. So, Ocho, I'm getting gas and the lady drive, you know, one of these vehicles, they help like the elderly or the disabled people they go around and pick them up take them to their appointments where they have a doctor's or something like that so i'm pumping gas i got my head down she's like hey can i take a picture i say yeah how'd you she said i just watched you and ocho the other night on on yeah
Starting point is 00:38:02 wait wait what what age group we talk about you think what age she's probably she's probably in watch you and Ocho the other night on night. Yeah. Wait, wait, what age group we talk about, you think? What age group we talk about? She probably, she's probably in a, she's in her late 20s. She was in her late 20s. Okay, okay, okay. They be, they be watching. They be watching. Hey, I be going through, I be going to the airport. I'm talking about every age
Starting point is 00:38:19 group. Senior, I don't, I hate saying senior citizens, but I'm talking about 65, 70. Oh yeah, for sure. You know, listen, the younger folks locked in. Our NFL, group senior i don't i hate saying senior citizens but i'm talking about 65 70 oh yeah you know you know listen the younger folks locked in our nfl uh nfl colleagues the younger generation yeah oh they all like hey they locked down yeah locked in the uh on on the airplane i i i flew frontier i could tell you this i flew frontier because it was it was inexpensive i was going to cleveland i would just turn it was the turnaround 40 the only problem with frontier they can't compete with spirit because they don't have wi-fi but anyway it was a great experience but don't do that hey but listen all the flight attendants the pilot
Starting point is 00:38:55 well we like you and all oh everybody is watching and this is isn't this ain't just black folk we talk about every demographic yes every demographic and i'm like you know what we doing something we doing something right we doing something right yeah everybody tuned in because i told you when i when um ash and i we went with the first trip to new york the pilot got the pilot you know the pilots normally sit the pilot got he beat the us up it's about what go with lobster the pilot you know the pilots normally stay seated, let everybody else get off. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:29 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. They done Googled me. Yeah, they got you pulled up. They got you pulled up, yeah. Hey, can I ask you a question? Yeah. Did you get any phone number? There ain't no phone number, man.
Starting point is 00:39:57 You ain't never dated an Asian? No. Okay, I'm just checking. I know. Listen, when you eat a bag of Skittles, you only pick one color? Mm-mm. When you eat a bag of Skittles, you only pick...
Starting point is 00:40:10 No, you taste the rainbow, right? Well, ain't nothing... I mean, you try something different. I think I'm a little bit too big. I think I'm my size. I think I'm a little bit intimidating for it. They ain't worried about that. You eat sushi, right?
Starting point is 00:40:23 No. You don't? Well, you can start. You can start. That would have been a perfect date, but go ahead. Okay, Ocho, check this out. A Brazilian swimmer who was sent home from Paris for sneaking out of Athlete's Village with her boyfriend is considering legal action
Starting point is 00:40:38 against her country's National Federation. Anna Carolina Vieira was allegedly caught trying to leave the village with her boo, Gabriel Santos, after Brazil finished 7th in the 4x1 100-meter freestyle relay. The pair was
Starting point is 00:40:54 reprimanded by the Brazilian Olympic Committee, which called their action disrespectful and aggressively challenging, and took a radical step of banishing them from the game. I mean, hold on. I have a question. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:08 Gabriel Santos and Carolina. Yeah. You know you're going to the Olympics. Uh-huh. You understand the focus it takes to represent Brazil, represent your country. Yes. You got three weeks. Y'all already been together.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Yes. You got three weeks to lock in and focus. So, for one, I'm going to blame the boyfriend. I'm going to blame the boyfriend because you already know the importance of why you're there. Yeah. And represent your country. You already came in seventh in a four by one. So that wasn't good.
Starting point is 00:41:37 So obviously somebody not focused. You mean you can't take three weeks to sacrifice your relationship to chill, to let her focus or to let him focus. Matter of fact, it's her. Let her focus and do her thing. It's only three weeks. She ain't up there that long. You'll be right back together after the Olympics is over. Man, the Olympic Village probably
Starting point is 00:41:58 overlooking the Eiffel Tower. You know what I'm saying? I'm just saying. I mean, listen, they got rules and regulations that you have to abide by especially with the pressure and the magnitude of the event and what you're doing and what is going on and who you're representing i can be celibate for three weeks and focus and lock in i'm gonna see you we a couple. There's no need to be venturing off knowing you're not supposed to do it.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Come on, man. That's on her. Or maybe that's on him. That's on him, matter of fact. But I'm not saying, baby, listen. Let's focus. Let me let you lock in. I'm going to always be here. You got the rest of the year. Man, you know how it is. You're like, girl, stop. No.
Starting point is 00:42:44 Stop. Go ahead. No, come on now. Because at that point, if she girl, stop. No, I don't. Stop. Go ahead. No, no. Come on now. No, because at that point, if she can't focus on that, if she can't focus for three weeks, three weeks on something as important as representing your country and swimming and locking in, then she's a liability. She's a liability.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Or he's a liability. One of the others. I'm not telling her. Ocho. One of them is a liability. Ocho a liability one or the other for not telling her Ocho Ocho they had done finish 7th there was nothing else it wasn't like
Starting point is 00:43:11 they finished 7th and they had and they went for a little romp they had done finish 7th well you know what if you finish 7th
Starting point is 00:43:22 nobody should be having sex anyway what you reward yourself for I got to take out my frustration on something. I'm going to win something. Hey, hey. Like the NFL say, I'm leaving with something. Oh, I'm winning something.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Oh, I'm getting the gold medal. I better get the gold medal in that. I bet you that. Record. Record time. The importance of where I'm at, the importance of what I'm doing is bigger than the relationship that I have. That's going to be there. That's going to be there.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Oh, this is every, this is every four years. Let me ask you a question. This is every four years. You go to the Superbowl. Y'all lose the game. And then after the game that night,
Starting point is 00:43:59 you ain't going to do nothing. You ain't going to shake no covers for a dollar. Nah, cause I'm going to be upset about losing the game. I still need my 24 hours to mourn the loss. Because I understand how hard it is to get to the Super Bowl. And if we make it and we don't win, 24-hour rule. You know about the 24-hour rule.
Starting point is 00:44:19 I'm going to shake the covers for a dollar. Where the game goes. Hey, oh, no. Come on. You better than me. Nah, I'd be hot, boy. I'd be hot. Listen, I'm not even from Brazil,
Starting point is 00:44:33 and I'm kind of mad that they're not even focused. And you came in seven. That alone lets you bet. You see Carnival. You see. You know what they look like. Yeah, oh yeah, I know what they look like. I know what they look like. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I know what they look like. I know what they look like. Ain't none of my business.
Starting point is 00:44:48 You mean you can't lock in for three weeks? Oh, yeah. You can't be celibate for three weeks? What you want me to do? It obviously isn't over. So, hold on. So, you're telling me you want me to wait to get all the way back from Brazil before I shake the covers? Well, you got to at least wait until the Olympics is over.
Starting point is 00:45:06 The Olympics is over? My events are over. Hold on. But then there would be no reason to be taking legal action against the Federation if your events is over. Obviously, she would still be there. Hold on. Do they got anything? Would they have any more events scheduled? They had to or they wouldn't
Starting point is 00:45:21 send them home. That's why she's seeing illegal action. I know she got some more events. See? Told you. Now you're not focused. They done sent your ass home.
Starting point is 00:45:36 She about to swim faster. Oh, man. I'm locked in. You think I'm going to be in, let's say, for example, prime example, I'm representing the U.S. and I'm on the national swim team for the USA. And Real come down there. And I'm in the village. And Real hit me and say, boy, let's take a stroll.
Starting point is 00:46:04 Let's walk real quick. And me go off off matter of fact i ain't doing it matter of fact because of who i'm dealing with she wouldn't even let me do it yeah for sure but that's on her partner come on man okay you know he don't care nothing about what she's doing there's a bigger picture a three-week picture they ain't take it they ain't take that shit serious man what about she might not want to melt him but she done got a diamond she ain't got no gold
Starting point is 00:46:35 but she done got a diamond put on him I bet you that come on man I mean listen different strokes for different folks but I totally get what you're saying is that for that moment I mean you
Starting point is 00:46:53 trained a lifetime you probably dreamt of this as a child as a teenager and for this moment and now you're here and you mean to tell me you can't set aside whatever your selfish plans or me you can't set aside whatever your selfish plans or agenda you can't set that aside for
Starting point is 00:47:10 a week, two weeks, three weeks? Come on, man. Come on now. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Child, please. Yeah, for sure. I mean, look, when it comes down, that's for me. That's how I was, Ocho. Hey, the kids, I mean, Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:47:26 the girlfriends handled the kids. My mom, they came in on Thursday. I went to see them. Kids like, we want to go see daddy. Mama said, no, here you ain't. You'll see your daddy after this game. Oh, yeah. Everybody had
Starting point is 00:47:42 my sister, my mom, my girlfriend. They had already been hey i done gave them money take the kids to disney because back then we've been said first was in san diego seaworld right hey y'all go see shamu get them to give them a big ass killer whale stuffed dolls i'll see y'all after the game right oh yeah oh yeah but my family they already know they already know how we get that yeah depending on what you do like you have structure I have structure and I stick to that that structure and that curriculum of whatever it may be that I'm doing right now I got 39 jobs real nose depending
Starting point is 00:48:20 on what I have going on depending on the day a, you already know what time it is. I'm not doing that. I'm locked in. I'm focused, whether it be nightcap. If we have a show, if we have a show and there's something that I have to go over, I need to be locked in on the show. Any horizontal or vertical activity is not happening before or after that show. It's not. We have a schedule. It's on the refrigerator with sticky notes. These are the time frames in which we can engage and you can mount me. That's it.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Anything outside of that is not happening. Structure and discipline. Everything else is going to be there. So imagine if I was representing our country in any field,
Starting point is 00:49:01 track, swimming, wrestling, or imagine me playing for the, you know, the back. Oh, man, stop playing with me, man. It took four years. Four years. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:49:11 Every four years. But here's the thing, Ocho. And it ain't no guarantee that you're going to get back. Yeah. Yeah. That's the thing. Hey, it ain't no guarantee. I'm Michael Kasson, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company.
Starting point is 00:49:29 The podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content. The term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide.
Starting point is 00:50:14 And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir?
Starting point is 00:50:47 No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hojo, Katie Ledecky
Starting point is 00:51:44 cruised to a victory earning her first Olympic gold at the Paris Games in the women's 1500 meter freestyle. Ledecky set an Olympic record with a time of 15 minutes, 30.02 seconds. She has not lost this race in more than 14 years. And she now owns the 20 fastest times in world history in the event. The other participants are basically just swimming for the silver. Look, you know from 2008
Starting point is 00:52:12 to 2016, if you ran 100 meters on a global stage, yeah. Who got second? Who got silver? Because you know Bo gonna win yeah you not beat
Starting point is 00:52:27 him in that prime pocket years mhm same with Michael Phelps same with Michael Phelps you already knew based on the races that he was running alright which one of us which one of us
Starting point is 00:52:42 is getting silver? He ain't getting gold. Had he not false started in Daegu, he gonna go 1-2 in the Olympics in 8-12-16
Starting point is 00:53:00 and he lost his last one. He had already said in 2015 after Rio the world championship was going to be his last so I don't think he still had that same quest I think he was like okay I want to retire a three time double you know
Starting point is 00:53:16 the 102 I want to win the gold and those right I don't think he had the same passion and maybe like that's a long time if you really think about it Ocho, no man had ever, first of all, they don't normally stay around that long. Right. I mean you think
Starting point is 00:53:31 Carl won in 84. Carl got silver. He later was given the gold because Ben Johnson got called doping. Right, right. But nobody else had ever won the 100. And back to back, nobody had ever won the 2. Damn. So
Starting point is 00:53:47 that's why he's the greatest sprinter. I just, hopefully, I'm alive so we can have a discussion at some point in time that if a sprinter is comparable to him. Like we have a discussion, maybe it's Kobe, maybe it's LeBron when we're talking about Jordan.
Starting point is 00:54:03 I just hope I'm alive. We can have an honest, serious discussion about a sprinter that's comparable to him. Because right now, there is none. There's none. None. I mean, somebody's going to challenge his world record. Not until you break 9-7, you're not. Nobody's running no 9s. If you you break 9.7, you're not. Nobody's running no 9s.
Starting point is 00:54:25 If you're running 9.7, think about it. You've got to go sub-9.6. He's the only guy that's ever been sub-9.65. Yeah. You know what's funny? I don't think people understand how fast
Starting point is 00:54:44 they really are moving. I don't think you understand how fast they really are moving. I don't think you understand. I think you won't be able to put things in a perspective because watching from TV is one thing. But watching world-class sprinters come out them goddamn blocks in person and fly by is crazy. And you look at athletes, you look at NFL players, you look at them run. That's a different kind of speed. Some of the faster players in the league. Even Cheetah, Xavier Worthy, some of the young bulls that can run at an NFL.
Starting point is 00:55:11 And it's not even close, Unc. It's not even close. Them boys are being in, like, last last, in the back last compared to the elite athletes that run track. Cheetah too heavy. Cheetah would need to lose like 30 pounds. Yeah. He too muscle bound. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:29 Because what they try to do, they try to get stronger without gaining weight. Because he's going to be as light as possible. Mm-hmm. But I'm very fortunate. To see, I was at the Olympic trials when Michael Johnson won the 400. He qualified in the 400. And that was the year that he was going to try to do the double.
Starting point is 00:55:52 And he ended up breaking the world record. He ran 1966 to break Pietro Mena of Italy's world record of 1972 that had stood since, what, 72, 73? I think that's when Mena set the record. But, you know, you're right, Ocho. You got some things you just have to see for yourself to get a sense of. Like, I was in Atlanta. I saw the home run derby.
Starting point is 00:56:22 And to see just how far they hit that baseball. As a matter of fact, the All-Star game in 2008, Josh Hamilton, when he hit it out of the old Yankee Stadium. Yeah. Wait, out of the stadium? Out of the old Yankee Stadium. Anybody, do y'all guys remember that? Yes, out of the stadium.
Starting point is 00:56:43 Yeah. To see Bonds and to see so social and see griffey i got an opportunity to see griffey play up close and personal 99 that one of the first time they had interleague play um they was playing the rockies and so i hey you know me oh joe i go not gonna play i go knock on the clubhouse door. Got over the door. He's like, hey, how may I help you? I said, I want to see, I want to talk to Griffey. He said, you know, he said, does he know you're coming? I'm like, nah.
Starting point is 00:57:14 So I guess he went and told him. Griffey came to the door. I went in there, talked to him. As a matter of fact, A-Rod was on the team being. Okay, okay, okay. As a matter of fact, I got a bat from both of them. And I got a jersey from Griffey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:28 He signed it. Hey, they was in A-Prime in Seattle, huh? Seattle, yes, yes. I got the jersey hanging up in my basement in Atlanta. A-Rod gave me a bat. Griffey gave me a bat, if I'm not mistaken, and a jersey. But I know the jersey is hanging on my wall. Ocho, you know how they go out there.
Starting point is 00:57:47 They go stretch and take BP. And maybe he took BP before I got there. But all I know is that he spent like an hour talking to me. I think he went three for four. That's live. Listen, the most beautiful swinging baseball
Starting point is 00:58:03 ever. The most beautiful swinging baseball ever. I've never seen nobody swing that bat like listen the most beautiful swinging baseball ever the most beautiful swinging baseball ever i've never seen nobody swing that bat like griffin if it's griffin okay oh joe we got to talk about this jamaica sharika jackson says she's out of the olympic 100 meters jackson says she will still run her better race which is the 200 she's the only woman of the record holder and the late fl Griffin Jordan to finish under 21 five. Um, let's, so let that sink in.
Starting point is 00:58:29 There's only two women that's ever been sub 21 five. Flojo's world record is 21 39. Um, Jackson said, it's a combination of things. I got hurt and me and my coach felt like it was a good decision only to run one event. Right.
Starting point is 00:58:43 I think it's a good thing. You focus on one thing. Yeah, focus on what you do best. I mean, that's smart on their part. Instead of risking injury, trying to exert so much energy in one thing and then be hurt for the other. So why not just
Starting point is 00:58:57 focus on your best one? Now, when it comes to the 100 meter, I don't mean to skip topics. When it comes to the 100 meter, the Jamaicans still have Shelly Ann Frazier. She's been dealing with some injuries also, Ocho. Okay. Yeah. And she's almost 40.
Starting point is 00:59:12 She's still dangerous. Oh, yeah, very dangerous. The mommy rocket is still dangerous. She still has that get out. But this is a severe blow to the Jamaican team. No Elaine Thompson-Hara, no Sharika Jackson. Because remember, Ocho, they swept 100 meters. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:31 At the Olympics. They did. Last time. Yeah, they did. And so, and now it does a big blow to their relay team. Because the question is, is she going to be healthy enough to run the relay right even if it's only one round obviously you know you got you that's what you bring
Starting point is 00:59:50 your alternatives for to let them you know to run and you try to save big guns because normally they're in the 100 and the 200 um and so it's going to be very very interesting to see what happens but now she carry is an overwhelming favorite favorite yeah um yeah they still have a to see what happens. But now Sha'Carri is an overwhelming favorite.
Starting point is 01:00:05 Favorite, yeah. Yeah, they still have Dina Asher-Smith. They have Talu. They have, you know, Kabunga from Switzerland. You know, they have some women. What's the, from St. Lucia? Offred, Julian Offred. So they have some women.
Starting point is 01:00:23 But if Sha'Carri runs, if Sha'Carri runs her, if Sha'Carri is Sha'Carri, can't nobody beat her. I'm expecting, I believe, I believe when they start, she can run sub 10-6. Because she's like Flojo from 50 in? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:41 Man. This is the funny part. When it gets to that final, ifakiri gets a good start because i think that's where she it's over if she gets a good start or it's a wrap because normally most of the time if you watch her races she comes back and catches the field because she gets the top speed and then she's able to maintain it right she's able to maintain it because of her strength on the back end well you got you know god can't give you everything he can't give you same boat christian coleman start yeah i wouldn't be fair i mean he can't give shakari shelly and frazier price start because now she's gonna now she's gonna run 10 40 right so i mean he's like okay i will give you a i'm blessed you with speed but damn i can't give
Starting point is 01:01:26 you everything everything yeah so um i'm sorry to hear that for sharika i mean it's tough because i mean she was you know she was going to be vying for uh um the double you know the hundred and two hundred gold and you know that's the hundred meter goal has rained jamaica had has surpassed us in sprinting right but for the longest time it was between us and jamaica right now over the last the last 12 12 14 years it's been jamaica surpassed us now yeah jamaica's had some they had merlin arty and they've had some women that could run and you know they never but when shellyan Ann and then you had Elaine Thompson and now you got Eureka and you see what they dominated the 100 meters and the 200
Starting point is 01:02:10 and then you get Boat and you had Powell and you had Blake now you got Kashane Thompson you got Obelix Seville they still got some guys now you better with the names of me.
Starting point is 01:02:25 What's the young bull from Jamaica that just ran a 9.7? Shane Thompson. Yeah. Ran 9.77. Yeah, the trial. And Obelix Seville, I think he ran like 9.80, 9.80, 9.82, something like that. So, no, I got to – but going back, if you go back,
Starting point is 01:02:42 I mean, we haven't won the gold in 100 meters since 2004. Justin Gatlin won in 2004. Yeah, when he beat Francis Obekwelu from Portugal, 985 to 986. And the year before that, Maurice Green won. Mo. Mo Green won. Yeah. And then Donovan Bailey.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Donovan Bailey won from Canada. He had the Olympic record he won in the Atlanta Olympics and then Linford Christie won in 92 yeah and then obviously you know you had the doping in Seoul where Ben Johnson was disqualified and then Carl won in 84 we swept
Starting point is 01:03:19 if I'm not mistaken I think we swept in 84 with Carl Lewis, Sam Grady, Dada think about that he won the silver medal he was a wide receiver for the Raiders mistaken. I think we swept in 84 with Carl Lewis, Sam Grady, Dada. Think about that. He won the silver medal. He was a wide receiver for the Raiders. Raiders always had it. They always had it. In the 92, James Jett was on the relay team that won the gold medal.
Starting point is 01:03:36 He could run. Man, them Jokers had Sam Grady, they had Willie Gault, they had Mervyn Mervyn Fernandez, and they had Tim Brown. They had a four-by-one. Yes! Who was the quarterback then? One year
Starting point is 01:03:52 they had Vince. What's the dude's name? I forget his name. He's on Chicago Bear. They had Jay Schrader. Raiders have always two things. They like guys that can run, and they like big-arm quarterbacks. Yeah. Al always was enamored by speed.
Starting point is 01:04:11 And how many Heisman Trophy winners can he collect? How many can he collect? But they had Rocket Ismail. So the Raiders have always loved speed. Because, you know, you play DB. The Raiders have always loved speed because you know you play DB the Raiders ain't no I mean what we said what we watching Ocho they gonna be in man coverage
Starting point is 01:04:31 what you watching it ain't no cover two it ain't no quarters it ain't no six it ain't none of that they gonna be right there in front of you every time they gonna line up and play I remember I mean my time during my tenure in the NFL, they had a great man-to-man corner in Nnamdi.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Yeah. How do you say Nnamdi last name? Nnamdi Asamoah. Asamoah. He was nice. I got a chance to play against him once or twice. That was the quarterback, Ben Seven. He's with the Bears.
Starting point is 01:05:02 I mean, his great best years came with the Bears. But also, yeah, they were right there. Anytime we played the Raiders and we played the Chiefs, Mike would stand up in the meeting and say, guys, look, we already know what they're going to do. He said, if you can't beat man coverage, I mean, he's looking at me. He's looking at it.
Starting point is 01:05:18 I don't know what he's looking at me for, because I just run the ass over. I throw the ass out the way. Don't worry about me. I'm good. But he's looking at us. He said, guys, if you can't beat man coverage, there's only two jobs left for you. Coaching and selling cars.
Starting point is 01:05:30 Yeah. He said, my coaching staff is filled up. And John, you hired? John said, no, I ain't hiring, coach. Yeah. Hey, the Chiefs corners back then was tall, right? When I first got there, they had Albert Lewis and Cameron Rock. Cameron Rock. They called him Rock. Then they had DC
Starting point is 01:05:48 and they had James Casey. Yeah, okay. DC. Them two was nice, boy. Hey, them two was nice. So think about it. You got DT coming off one side. You got Neil coming off the other side. Woo! Yeah. Oh, they
Starting point is 01:06:04 used to have a defense. They had big Joe Phillips. They had Dan Salamore. They had Deron Cherry. They had Martin Bayless. They had Porter. KP. Oh, their defense was legit. Their offense was some trash.
Starting point is 01:06:18 But their defense, oh, boy. And they used to be, the Chiefs, Arrowhead, used to be turf. Right. So imagine DT jumping off that turf imagine Neil jumping off that turf man that thing get me so loud they start doing up chopping and they start saying and they get you backed up and DT do this y'all want this
Starting point is 01:06:38 he start shaking his head oh man come on put your hands down DT man damn man you getting fired up it was over Ocho day Yeah, he's like, oh, man, come on. Put your hands down, DT, man. Damn. Yeah. Man, you getting fired up. It was over, Ocho Day. Yeah. You caught hell in that division.
Starting point is 01:06:51 Oh, yeah. Well, you do now, too, because they got Mahon, boy. All right, Ocho, check this out. Yeah. Can Safan Hassan pull off the legendary Emile Zodipak? The Dutch distance star will run the 5K, the 10K, and the marathon. That's an incredible 38.6
Starting point is 01:07:10 miles of racing over nine days. The only athlete to ever do that was the great Czech athlete, Emile Zodipak. He won the gold in the 5,000, the 10,000, and the marathon. All three events in the 1952 games held in helsinki
Starting point is 01:07:26 oh but hey that's that's gonna be tough that's gonna be tough but again almost almost hassan almost put it off in tokyo almost put it off so he might be able to win that triple crown here in paris 30 30 30 miles of running in a 9 day stand I know they got a cold tub and as long as you have a cold tub and you eat right it is possible but that's going to be an unbelievable feat
Starting point is 01:07:56 she won the 5000 because she won the 5000 and the 10,000 in the last Olympics and I think she got like the silver or the bronze medal in the 1500 because they're going to catch the the silver or the bronze medal in the 1500, because they're going to catch the dickers to beat Faith Kip Yegon, the two-time world record holder. Kip Yegon from
Starting point is 01:08:11 Kenya, she ain't to be messed with. She's gone for the sub-350. So, the 1500, unless something unforeseen happens, then Safon win the win the 5,000 and 10,000
Starting point is 01:08:26 in the rather than the 1,500 so that's a feat in and of itself yeah that's gonna be a good race
Starting point is 01:08:35 and now she said you know what I still want to do the 5,000 I still want to do the 10,000 but hey let's bump that
Starting point is 01:08:40 thing up instead of 1,500 let's go to 26.2 yeah she listen she better she better than me Let's bump that thing up. Instead of 1,500, let's go to 26.2. Yeah. Listen, she better than me.
Starting point is 01:08:53 Nigerian Athletic Federation is under fire again. Favor Ophelia was preparing to run the 100-meter dash in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday after qualifying for the ZEN. However, a key mistake meant she would not be able to participate. Ofile was not entered in the race,
Starting point is 01:09:08 meaning she won't be able to compete alongside two of her fellow Nigerian track stars she announced. The former LSU standout said the issue stemmed from the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, the Nigerian Olympic Committee, and the Nigerian Anti-Doping Committee failing to register her to participate ofile's next scheduled event is a 200 meter dash she also uh recalled a situation during tokyo in which 14 athletes from nigeria couldn't participate due to drug testing i don't understand what's the problem we've been preparing for this for a very long time the committee the nigeria athletic federation
Starting point is 01:09:45 knows that these athletes are preparing to go and compete why not pay for the drug test i don't understand where's the confusion i don't understand where the confusion is i don't know if it was out of out of season testing or what's going on because they're kind of getting real strict on that, Ocho. Yeah. I mean, the testing, the cheats, and I'm not saying these women are cheating. I'm saying the cheats have gotten so good,
Starting point is 01:10:14 they microdose, and then, you know, hey, I can't be here and I can't be there. You remember, Ocho, this is before your time, they probably don't do it now. But when I first got into the league, if you say, well, hey, Mr. Sharp, we want to drug test you. I'm like, well, I'm going on vacation.
Starting point is 01:10:29 They say, okay, just call us when you get back. Oh, no. Get back. Wait a minute. Before you even finish, during my time, during my tenure, if I'm going on vacation and I got that call
Starting point is 01:10:42 or I got that email, oh, we need to test you. Oh, well, I'm not in Miami right now. I'm in so-and-so. Oh, don't worry about it. We'll send a tester to you wherever you are. Yes. They can find you and they will get to you no matter where you're traveling in the world to get that sample.
Starting point is 01:10:58 Oh, Joe, I had a guy. So they started, you know, man, guys started having to whiz and they to do darker than me and they got a pink meat. And so the testers say said hold on somebody right how you got how you how you got how that thing pink and you dark and then so so guys was having the wizenator they was having a scrap phone using somebody else somebody else's urine urine yeah so i was living in savannah oh joe they would have the tester come to Savannah. I would go to the airport, go in there, and you know, Ocho, you know, ain't no they close the door.
Starting point is 01:11:32 They standing over you. Oh, yeah. Oh, they gonna make sure. They gonna make sure everything right now. They making sure your thing, it's your meat that's in that cup. Yep. I'm like, bro, give me a little space, bro. But because guys have started to get advanced,
Starting point is 01:11:50 they were ordering urine off the thing, and they're like, nah, you ain't got no drugs. You ain't got no PEDs, but you got the clout. Yeah. Listen, the funny thing about doping, the funny thing about doping is something that I've never done, but I've heard the stories.
Starting point is 01:12:07 I understand what goes on as far as whether it be track. But listen, any any sport for that matter. And the doping is so far ahead of the testing. It takes five to 10 years until the testing actually catch up, catches up to where they are right now with the doping. And then something else comes out and then they're ahead of the doping, they're ahead of the testing again. You got to get busted because somebody got to tell you what they're taking because you don't know. See, Ocho, if I just tell you,
Starting point is 01:12:33 hey man, go downtown and find that. What are you looking for? I got to tell you what you're looking for in order for you to be able to test it. So it's just like the clear. Once somebody got taught and they started running their mouth now we got we got the actual substance that we can test okay these are the chemicals now we got a test for it yeah so it's that's what happens somebody has to get popped just like that
Starting point is 01:12:57 big shipment with 40 with with uh 10 tons coming through yeah you're gonna catch that 10 ton shipment but we got a 30-ton shipment right behind it. Yeah, always. Listen, they're going to throw you a layup every time. Hey, Cho, check this out, Cho. So to clarify, the Nigerians failed to release funds for the athletes to be tested, which
Starting point is 01:13:18 made 14 Nigerian athletes that qualified to not be able to compete. So how much is testing? Testing can't cost that much. We don't want to that qualified to not be able to compete. So how much is testing? Don't start me to laugh. Testing can't cost that much if you don't want to release the funds. If anything, as an athlete,
Starting point is 01:13:32 you think they could have paid for themselves unless it's an extraordinary amount of money just to get tested? Nah, come on, Ojo. I mean, why should I have to pay for myself to get tested? I'm representing you. Yeah, I mean, listen, if you had an issue in the
Starting point is 01:13:47 Tokyo Olympics in 2020, as an athlete, if I'm representing Nigeria and I understand the issues that always comes with them when it comes to the testing and the doping, honestly, I'm going to make sure I'm in Paris and I'm competing. I pay for it out of pocket because I know
Starting point is 01:14:03 they done messed up before four years ago. Oh, Joe, you saying that as an American athlete, you have to understand a lot of these athletes are in worse shape than even American athletes. Oh, I see where you're going.
Starting point is 01:14:13 I see my bad. My bad. They ain't got it like that. So that's why, you know, when they win prizes, when you look at some of the Kenyans, when they win prize money,
Starting point is 01:14:22 do you, when you got a light, when you can play $8 for electricity and you can build a home for $20,000 and there's a mansion, man, can you imagine the prize money that they, when they win like a marathon or they win $150,000 or $200,000?
Starting point is 01:14:37 Right, right, okay. What? Boy, that's a lot of wives, Ocho. That's a lot of cattle and sheep. Yeah, I'm glad you put things into respect. Yeah, man. Damn. Yeah, but that's sad.
Starting point is 01:14:52 I feel bad for them to have trained a lot of them to train their entire life. You know they've been training for at least four years and through and they qualified. That's one thing if they didn't have the qualifying time. Like, well, you ain't even qualified anyway, so it didn't matter.
Starting point is 01:15:08 You wasn't going to be able to go. But we've qualified and through for whatever reason, I don't want to say neglect or lack of funding, Ojo, whatever the case may be, to not be able to live or fulfill my destiny. Ugh.
Starting point is 01:15:28 I feel bad for him, man. I feel bad for him.
