Starting point is 00:04:29 He's not doing no back-to-back. Right now, he ain't doing no front-to-front either. And the NBA... The NBA is going to investigate... is going to investigate, Shams reported. He played in the Olympics but can't play week one and B was ruled out
Starting point is 00:04:49 without a specific injury designation for the team describes as left knee management. The NBA is like, hold on. The Olympics been over
Starting point is 00:04:58 for two months. Right, right, right. You can't even one game? Yeah, he might. He might. Listen, he might restrain some in practice and we? Yeah, he might. He might. Listen, he might have strained something in practice, and we don't know about it.
Starting point is 00:05:08 He's a... Look. He's a large man. Yeah. You're talking about 7'1", 7'2". He's at least 300-plus pounds. What, he 300? He's not even fat.
Starting point is 00:05:23 When you that tall, you can hide a lot of weight okay okay okay but you know think about Shaq right when you see Shaq and you say he's 7'1 almost 300 or 290 no Shaq like 355 what yes Shaq was 3
Starting point is 00:05:40 no I'm talking about right he's 355 right now I'm talking about when he was playing Shaq came and Lee Shaq was 3... No, I'm talking about right... He's 355 right now. I'm talking about when he was playing. Oh, when he played Shaq, came in the league, Shaq was probably 315. But he looks solid. He's solid, bro. You know?
Starting point is 00:05:52 So you look at it... You stretch that out, though, Ocho. We're looking at 315 on offense or defensive linemen. They're 6'4", 6'5". He's 7'1". Baby, why? Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:06:05 So he's six, seven inches taller. Yeah. Than an NFL player. Yeah. I just don't, when I look at him beat, I just don't see no 300. Yeah, he 320, probably 325.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And he got to get that weight up off him. If he get that weight up off of him and bring it down a little bit, it help his knees, man. It would. But Ocho, he eating, like you say, he eating McDonald's. He only, Joel Embiid. He eating Big Macs.
Starting point is 00:06:37 He eating chicken sandwiches. They giving him therapy. He on the table. They massaging his ankles and doing his eat. He eating Big Macs. He eating the table. They massaging his ankles and doing his eat. And he eating Big Macs. And he eating fries. Okay, that's how he won that MVP thing. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And now that's what he does. He won it right there. See that? And he played first game. Can't play back-to-backs. You do remember? He missed like his first couple seasons, though, Joe. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Eating Big Macs. Yeah, the injury. Eating Big Macs. Yeah, the injury book. Eating Big Macs. He was eating Big Macs. No, he had nothing to do with nutrition. Well, he had nothing to do with nutrition. You was just praising the man for eating Big Macs and winning the MVP.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I'm just telling you, he had a special diet the year. Oh, he won MVP last year, right? Two years ago. Yeah, two years ago. He told me about his nutritional plan and thanked me for, you know what, because of you, that's why I was able to accomplish what I did. I'm just telling you what he told me. I'm not telling you what I know. I'm telling you what I heard.
Starting point is 00:07:40 But he's going to be all right, though. He's going to be all right. And then just because of the way that I kind of understand him not wanting to play the back-to-back and being able to play what I consider a full season for him, if you don't have to play back-to-back. Well, I mean, the NBA would love it that if he did, because guess what? They pay back-to-back. Hey, you know what? They could be nasty, too too you know what they could do they could say
Starting point is 00:08:07 well if you if you don't want to do back-to-back games the games you don't miss how about you don't get paid man uh the nba pa ain't going for that oh yeah yeah yeah i understand i understand but i'm just saying i get it i think because because because of his size and the wear and tear up and down the court, to put on somebody of his size, I get it. I get it. That was so impressive about Shaq. And you notice Shaq didn't really start having injuries until, you know, as he started to get older and he wasn't in the condition that he needed to be in.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Right. But when Shaq was young, Shaq was playing 75 games up and down the court. At least Orlando Shaq. Yes. Okay. Yes. And even for a couple of years with the Lakers. But look, as you get older, it's kind of like, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:08:57 when you play in a cold, when you play in Cincinnati or you play in Green Bay, it's harder to get that weight up because as you get colder, you don't sweat as much, you bundle up. Yeah. And so now, all of a sudden, you find your weight starting to creep up. Now, that's something I really never had
Starting point is 00:09:15 no problem with. My weight was... Even as I started to get older, Mike said, you want to set your weight a little higher. I said, nah, I like the discipline of what it forces me to do. Don't give me no out.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Lock me into this. And so as you get older, Ocho, it gets harder. As you get older, you got to eat better, or you got to work out harder, or you got to do both of those. And so, and it's hard man when you get injured because here's the thing think about it ocho you get in your best shape what are you doing you working out you get injured what can't you do work out you can't work out now all that weight
Starting point is 00:09:56 that you lost because you work it out eating well you gain it right back yep gain it right back you do Lonzo Ball had five points in his Bulls first game since 2022 his first regular season game in more than two years
Starting point is 00:10:12 he had a cartilage transplant in his left knee March of 23 Lonzo Ball five points four assists two rebounds
Starting point is 00:10:20 in 14 minutes in a 123 123 111 loss they lost to the Pelicans that's that's live man medicine rebounds in 14 minutes and a 123-111 lob. They lost to the Pelicans. That's mad medicine. What's the difference?
Starting point is 00:10:34 I'm glad you brought this up now. What's the difference in Lonzo Ball's injury and what's going on with Kawhi Leonard? Whatever Lonzo Ball, I'm sure, boom, Kawhi need to holler at whoever the doctor is, even though it did take two years, but the fact that he's able to come back now and play. Shoot, Kawhi need to holla at whoever Lonzo people is and get that handled.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Yeah. Kawhi like 33, Lonzo like 25. Oh, shit. Damn. I mean, this is my first time. They probably got that. I don't know if they grew it or that's a cadaver, you know, Oh, shit. Damn. I mean, this is my first time. They probably got that. I don't know if they grew it or that's a cadaver.
Starting point is 00:11:13 You know, because, like, you know, sometimes, you know, you organ donor and, you know, you have cadavers. They take body parts. They take ligaments and stuff. And they and they. So I'm trying to figure out. It'll be interesting to ask if you can look that up. Was that a cadaver or did they grow it? Uh,
Starting point is 00:11:29 cause I know they've been trying to grow ligaments in a dish. Uh, but you know, anytime you put something foreign in the body, the body's going to attack it. Like you don't belong here. Get your ass out. And so that's how you have to take, uh,
Starting point is 00:11:37 uh, uh, a medicine to, you know, to, to fight the effect, you know, to fight because your body wants to attack a foreign object that's in your body.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Like, you weren't born here. Get your ass up out of here. Well, you know what? You've had multiple surgeries. You've had injuries, obviously, during your career. Have you had anything that you had to come back from from a long time and still play?
Starting point is 00:12:02 I'm not talking about once you were done. Like, an injury that, like, you know what? Damn, I'm down. I'm going to get this surgery. I'll get this procedure. And then it took you a while to get back. No, I've never had anything, had a surgery in season that required me to come back from.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yeah, I had sprained ligaments that I ended up having to come back from during the season. But I missed, you know, I missed a month. Let's just say I missed a month. I dislocated my elbow. I missed a month. That was the most difficult thing that I had to come back from Ocho, but normally, you know, sprained ankle or something like that. You miss a game and then you come back. It's hard though.
Starting point is 00:12:40 It's hard because the speed of the game and now all of a sudden you got to cut back up again. And it is tough, man. It's hard because the speed of the game and now all of a sudden you got to catch back up again. It's tough. It's tough. I think I missed when I dislocated my elbow I missed four weeks and all of a sudden I went I have no pads on.
Starting point is 00:12:58 So as I start to ramp back up, I'm wearing my pads because I got to get back used to wearing pads. Right. So that's the process. Now I got to get back used to wearing pants right so that's the process now i got to get back used to wearing pants i've been out of pants for two weeks three weeks so okay i know we got a target date so now i start putting the pads on getting used to my pants uh i got a big brace on my elbow i got to get used to wearing that on my elbow trying to catch knowing i can't extend but so high because I got this brace that's only
Starting point is 00:13:28 going to let me extend so much because I don't want to run the risk of dislocating them again. It was a donor. So it was a cadaver. Okay. That's dope. Man, I'm telling you, medicine is unbelievable, man.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Hey, do we know if he went overseas? If he got... Listen, tell Kawhi, tell Kawhi, come take my knee. Come take my good knee. I don't need it right now. Tell him get it back after basketball season. Get it back, because I got to play soccer.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Because, you know, sometimes they do that with ACLs. They'll get it from a cadaver. With ACL? Yeah. Oh, man. Let me knock on wood, man. Thank goodness I didn't have to deal with that. What these doctors can do now?
Starting point is 00:14:24 Listen, medicine and technology is so far advanced. That's why I don't understand a situation like brother Kawhi. How is it not resolved? As advanced as we are in every damn thing, not just medicine, just everything. But here's the thing. Like you said, everybody ain't willing to take those, those steps or go to that. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Like you said, you wasn't taking no needles. Everybody don't want to take them injections. Everybody ain't going to go to the umpteenth degree to try to get back out there. Lonzo says, I want to play. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Well, we, we got this, we got this surgery. Um, we can get it. We can Well, we, we got this, we got this surgery. Um, we can get it. We can get a, uh,
Starting point is 00:15:07 uh, some carnage from a cadaver and. Okay. Maybe Kawhi. Okay. Not without knowing, but I'm saying, but everybody,
Starting point is 00:15:16 everybody ain't willing to go that, go that extra mile. Oh, Joe, get back on there. Right. Okay. I got it.
Starting point is 00:15:22 I got it. Okay. Brother also made a return from injury as well. LaMelo Ball had 34 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds to lead the Hornets to a 110-105 win over Houston. The Hornets are counting on LaMelo to be on the court a lot more than he has in recent
Starting point is 00:15:36 years as they attempt to end an 8-year playoff drought. He just, he phenomenal. LaMelo, he nice, boy. Gotta stay healthy. He nice. But you think because his frame, because he's so small, we really can't blame, we really can't blame his frame
Starting point is 00:15:52 and him being small because, hell, AI was small just like that too. Yeah. I mean, see, Lonzo and Melo, see, Jello built like LaVar. He got a football body. I don't know if you've ever met LeVar, but LeVar has a football body. He got wide shoulders. He got
Starting point is 00:16:14 big legs. He built like a football player. Lonzo and Melo are thin-framed. And see, I mean, rolled his ankle and Melo was out for the year. Lonzo had that knee. And maybe it's a situation where both maybe tried to come back too soon.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Because when you're an athlete, Ocho, your mind, I want to play. I want to get out there. Trying to get on that court. Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. But I'm glad to see both brothers are back. Hopefully, Melo can stay healthy. They can make some noise.
Starting point is 00:16:50 I like the guy they got from Alabama. What was the other guy? With him and Melo, they can make some noise. Oh, they can make some noise. I'm not saying they're going to do anything. I like Orlando tonight. Yeah. They can make some noise. I'm not saying they're going to do anything. I like Orlando tonight. What's – yeah. Brandon.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Brandon Miller from Alabama. He can go. Yeah, he can go. Hey, he nice. Yeah, yeah, he can go. And while I was watching a little bit of the Orlando game, Orlando beat the Brakes off the Heat. They dedicated the court
Starting point is 00:17:27 to Pat Riley. Yeah. Oh, he going to be the deal. He going to be the deal with. Oh, yeah. You're nice.
Starting point is 00:17:42 You ain't had to say they beat the Brakes off the Heat. You ain't had to say it like that. It's one game. Okay. Well, maybe you get some new breaks. You got them beat off. Hold on. Let me ask you a question. When it comes to the East, who do you think coming out of the East? Man, Boston look good.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Boston look good. Boston look good for the next five years because you got to realize, look at their players. JT is probably 25. JB probably 27, 28. You still got Derrick White. You still got Holiday playing at an elite level. Przingis, as long
Starting point is 00:18:26 as Przingis stays healthy. Big Al. And then Big Al is up in age, but what they ask him to do, he can play a couple of years. They built for the next three years, but they're going to be a tough out in the East for sure. And they're homegrown. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:43 I like it. I like the Celtics. Listen, defending NBA champions, but I'm from Miami, man. If I got anything to say about it, I'm not sure if we have enough weapons. Y'all don't. Enough fire power.
Starting point is 00:18:59 First of all, you got to keep, what you call them, healthy. Bam or Jimmy? Tyler Hero. Tyler Hero. And Jimmy. Bam, bam, there. Bam, bam, bam, straight. Bam, going to be there.
Starting point is 00:19:12 But Jimmy, you got to keep Jimmy healthy. But Jimmy kind of coasts through the regular season, and then he turns it on once he gets to the playoffs. Playoff Jimmy. Tyler Hero. He turned into somebody completely different. And you remember Pat Riley, he told Tyler Hero, bro, you got to stay healthy. We turned into somebody completely different. And you remember Pat Riley told, he told Tyler Hero,
Starting point is 00:19:26 bro, you got to stay healthy. We paying you money to play. Right. Starting point is 00:21:40 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there's so many stories out there. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space
Starting point is 00:22:25 and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask Attorney General. I'm Leon Naf more questions in just a second.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,
Starting point is 00:23:46 your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered. Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person,
Starting point is 00:24:47 he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible. Brandon Jennings revealed he stopped playing basketball because friends and family constantly asked him for money. He went on Dwight Howard's pod and said that some friends and family started viewing him as an ATM. I had to walk away from the game too because family and friends,
Starting point is 00:25:19 it got too much about money and basketball is my freedom and my basketball is my therapy. But once basketball becomes a job and my basketball is my therapy but once basketball becomes a job and people start to look at it as a job atm it kind of gets depressing i mean no matter who you are you don't want to be looked at as a cash cow i have a lot of people tell me man you don't really care about me how you say you love me we family we cool we friend and when i need you we talked about this oh joe you don't give me no money yeah i'll give a damn like you know yeah listen they'll drain you boy family will drain
Starting point is 00:25:53 you they know no limits it will not stop and all you're doing is is you're enabling them the more you give the more you give the more you have to keep giving your friends you have these entourages i i see people always walking you have these entourages. I see people always walking around with these entourages. You know, you got a bunch of people and I understand
Starting point is 00:26:09 the people you grew up with. You always want to keep it real as people may say. Man, shit, you're a fool. My grandma said one thing, a fool and his money shall soon part ways.
Starting point is 00:26:20 And one of the easiest ways for it to part ways is the wrong people around you. The wrong people around you. The wrong women you're dealing with. Huh? The ones you happen to chase. The one, oh, I ain't going 50-50. Yeah, okay. Well, good luck.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Enjoy it. The better it look, the better it look, the worse it is for you. Yeah, man. Come on now. Hey, listen. The better it look, the worse it is for you. But that's what Come on now. Hey, listen. The better it look, the worse it is for you. But that's what I did, Ocho. See, the difference between you and me. See, you like things that's
Starting point is 00:26:51 good for you. I like things that's good to me. Hey, but it's difficult, huh? It's very difficult because as dudes, especially when you're young you get caught up you get all this money and you don't want to tell people no
Starting point is 00:27:09 and before you know it and when you look up because you're making so much money right now but you're going to look up man five six seven years from now where all my money go well god damn what happened you know them chains and watches
Starting point is 00:27:24 that jewelry them nightclubs them trips them purses them bottles you know going to the club spending $60,000 $70,000 $80,000 that shit go fast if you have no financial discipline and you think just because I'm making
Starting point is 00:27:40 $30,000 or $40,000 a year it go fast boy you know Joe and to thing, just because I'm making $30 or $40 a year, it go fast, boy. Oh, Joe. And to think of a family friend like, man, I don't know what happened to all that money. I gave it to your punk ass. That's what happened to my money. Hey, they'll never understand.
Starting point is 00:27:58 They'll never understand because the little bit that they do make, they can't manage that. Yes. They can't manage that. Yes. They can't manage that. So, you can't manage your income and somehow you want me to supplement your income.
Starting point is 00:28:14 You want to police mine. Man, if I was you, see, that's why you ain't got it. I already know. It's tough. It's tough because it's very difficult especially for the fellas that
Starting point is 00:28:29 grew up around certain people around certain areas at some point you know to the point where you hang around the wrong dudes sometimes they get they get extorted huh yeah you're right you're not you're not hold on let me let me you're not you're not hearing me some of them not even friends you know you Yeah, you're right. You're not, you're not. Hold on, let me, let me. You're not, you're not hearing me.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Some of them not even friends, you know. You, you, you, you round the wrong crowd. You get next door. Yeah, it's, it's, it's tough when somebody that you trust or you think you have, uh, you cool with and they pull, they pull some. Money, money. Hey, man, look here, man. Money. Hey, listen. Say no and watch what happens.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Oh, yeah. Say no and watch what happens. Oh, yeah. Say no and watch what happens. And they're going to keep on taking. They don't never stop. You know, and the sad part about it is, Ocho, they forget the thousand yeses. They only remember the one no. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, they're going to remember that no.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Man, man. Hold on. Man, I really need you. You said that the last 15 times. And I gave it to you. So what's the... Oh, man, man, I really need you. You said that the last 15 times and I gave it to you. So what's the, oh man, man. Hey, I, man, I, man, sharp. I know, but bro, this is just the last time you said that the last time, the last time, the last time, the last time, the last time.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Yeah. But you know, you've always told us stories about, you know, those who are close to you will always be able to have access, so you will always be able to help. Has there ever been a time with you where you've had to cut a family member off because they
Starting point is 00:29:55 continue to take advantage of the situation of knowing that you're going to always give? Oh, Joe. Outside of my brother and sister, I only got one cousin that got my phone number to get to me you gotta go through my sister my sister said well I'll tell him
Starting point is 00:30:18 I mean and I was like bro I said I mean I had a friend that you know every time he needed 200 or he needed 300 he needed this
Starting point is 00:30:33 I said bro if you got a money tree in the backyard and every time you need something you go pluck the money off pretty soon there ain't gonna be no money in the tree I like that's a good one he's like oh yeah time you need something, you go pluck the money off. Pretty soon, it ain't going to be no money in the tree. That's a good one. He's like, oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:51 He ain't never asked me for anything else. Right. He know he was skating on thin ice. I don't mind helping people. And I think that's why I've kind of been blessed. I've been very, very fortunate. I've helped a lot of people. Helped a lot of people. And I think that's why I've kind of been blessed. Uh, I've been very, very fortunate. I've helped a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:31:08 helped a lot of people. Um, and I never asked for it back. I, I, I don't recall. Only one time, only one time in 30 years.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Has someone paid me back? And when he paid me back, I only, I only took 30 cents on the dollar. Right. Because I wanted to make sure he was on his feet. But for the most part,
Starting point is 00:31:36 Ocho, I've never given somebody a 10, 20,000 and they paid it back. I'm cool with that. I'm cool. I'm good. Lord has blessed Shannon. He has allowed me to help my mom, my sister, my brother. Before my grandmother passed, I was able to do a lot. So I don't haggle about no money.
Starting point is 00:31:57 I don't. I don't. And the one time I wanted to haggle about money, my agent, Marvin, has always told me, he said, don't worry about it. Whatever you lost, the next person you work for, they'll pay. We'll put that in. We'll put that on them. Sure enough.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Sure enough. So I don't worry about that. I don't worry about that. Yeah, I help. I help people. If you cool with me, if you've ever been cool with me, not the guys. My homeboy
Starting point is 00:32:34 is my homeboy. If I cut you, if you're a guy and I cut you off, that's it. That's it. Because I feel you tried to take advantage of a city. Women. If you've been cool with me, you like,
Starting point is 00:32:48 Hey, I have a simple rule. Take the brand. Yeah. Take the brand. Right. 10 years from now, you hit me up.
Starting point is 00:33:01 I got you. That's how I operate. Don't you? I got you. Right. But you got, don't you? I got you. Right. But you got to protect the brand. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Yeah, that's tough too. That's tough, especially when it comes to women because in disguise, until you really sit back and look at it and understand what's going on and you really dissect the situation you're in, like half the time, dudes, they got the money. I know it's good to always want to give and help.
Starting point is 00:33:34 And sometimes they don't even realize they're being taken advantage of. You think about investing. It's always an investment. Anytime you pour, anytime you put money into something, you're given something, you always expect or want,
Starting point is 00:33:49 you want something in return. And most of the time, if you think about it, based on the decisions that you make on the type of individuals you deal with, there is no return on that investment. No, no, no, no, no, no. It's just going out the window.
Starting point is 00:34:03 And you think because I'm making so much, oh, it's cool. Oh, no, no. It's just going, it's just going, it's going out the window. And you think it's always, and you think because I'm making so much, oh, it's cool. Oh, it's good. But you never understand until you don't have no more money. And then all your friends disappear.
Starting point is 00:34:17 All the ones that used to be hitting your phone, the phone calls stop, stop coming in. The test mess, text mess. Oh, I would just call in and check in and see how you're doing. You know?
Starting point is 00:34:27 Listen, bud, listen. I look at money, like if I give friends, family money, I look at an investment. When I invest money, my financial people says, okay, Shannon, X. This is a five-year investment. This is a five-year investment this is a 10-year investment this is a 15-year investment now when you put the money here can you do without this money for five years
Starting point is 00:34:55 can you do without this money for 15 years can you do whatever the case may be. Now, Ocho, there might be some unforeseen. Now, I got rainy day. I absolutely got to have it. I got money I can go get my hands on right now. I absolutely got to have it. But for the most part, I put money aside five years, 10 years, 15 years. I'm good. If I give somebody something, Ocho, I already know. That's a
Starting point is 00:35:27 100 year. In other words, I'm not getting that back. No. But you have to, Ocho, you got to be able to make peace with that decision because you're going to get upset. See, I didn't even, you know what, Ocho, I bet you didn't know money smell did you
Starting point is 00:35:46 give somebody a hundred dollars man you want that fucking hundred dollars back yeah it wasn't fucking when you got it I wish somebody would just ask me for a hundred dollars I can't remember the last time a mofo asked me for just a hundred dollars I think it started a band
Starting point is 00:36:02 it started a it started a band it It started a band. It did go on from there. Bro. Yeah. Look, you follow hard times, I get it though, Joe. Look, sometimes you go through things, you know, you have an illness in the family or so forth and so on.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I get it. I get it. Everybody don't have the best medical. Everybody don't have a job that pays them like you and I have. Everybody didn't play in the National Football League. And I'm very fortunate. Like I got with Marvin at an early age and he was able to help me, help me secure myself.
Starting point is 00:36:36 And everybody's not like that. Everybody ain't going to make a ton of money. And everybody, a lot of people, Ocho, is a medical emergency away from being bankrupt. Medical emergency will bankrupt you. Yeah. So I factored that in. I was like, Lord, you know what?
Starting point is 00:37:00 Hey. They need it more than I do. I said, I know you got me than I do. I said, I know you got me. I know you got me, Lord. Yeah. I think that's one of the reasons why I'm always,
Starting point is 00:37:12 I've always been so willing to give, um, to the point where it's, it's, it's called, it's called, it's caused issues, you know, and home because it's always like,
Starting point is 00:37:24 you got to, you got to cut that out, man. Yeah. Cause that can go towards something in here. But listen, this is the way I've always been. I've always been this way. So I, I even, I had to stop the tipping at the restaurant. I had to stop tipping the way, because it was like, listen, like you're going to have to, you're going to have to seize that. I mean, but listen, I've been doing this 20-something years. I know, but times are different now. And I'm like, so I don't want to be combative. I just slow down.
Starting point is 00:37:55 I just slow down. You know what it is, Ocho? And I tell them, hey, tell me what you think. I mean, I was in a situation, Ocho, I say, tell me what you think we're missing out on by me helping X, Y, and Z. If you can show me, say was in a situation, don't you? I say, tell me what you think we missing out on by me helping X, Y, and Z. If you can show me, say, well, Shannon, I wasn't able to get what I wanted. The house wasn't able to get what it needed because you did X, Y, and Z. If you show me that, I ain't got no problem.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Now, I will say this. When it comes to Spanky, Lib mama and granny and the kids that's seven people yeah i'll lose it all i'll crash out for them right every dime now if you want to say hey if you want to say hey you know your cousin uncle or this or that, okay, I get it. Okay, fine, no problem. But there are some that are non-negotiable. Because when I didn't have anything, I had them.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Oh, yeah. And that's how I look at it. So for me, it was my brother and my sister. And I tell you, the relationship from them, if you notice, like when I'm around them, I step back. Like when my brother, you saw everybody's like, man,
Starting point is 00:39:10 you could tell Unc has respect for his brother. When he talking, I step back. My sister talk, I step back. Because they raised me. They raised me. They taught me how to tie a shoe. They taught me how to bathe myself. They taught me how to brush my teeth. They taught me all the things that a mom and dad would teach a child. They taught me that. So it was just us. That was it. My sister helped me with my homework. My sister resigned my report card. My sister did that. My brother showed me how to be a man,
Starting point is 00:39:47 showed me things that I needed to know. So for me, I said, that's a non-negotiable. My mom gave me life. My grandma gave me everything but life. Right now, the kids, they know. Okay, what you doing? How do we find ourselves in this situation? When did you know about this? What did you know? When did you know? And how are we going to get out of it?
Starting point is 00:40:19 But there's some things that are non-negotiable. Now, hey, that doesn't mean that if I got a woman, if I got a lady in my life and she comes to me and she say, Shannon, you know what? My mom's struggling. My mom and dad. What you need? Right.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Hold on. Within reason. Yeah. Within reason. Yeah. Within reason. OK, OK, OK, OK. Yeah, I can't. But I can't.
Starting point is 00:40:42 But at 50. You're 51. Why, I cap it. I cap it at 50. You're going to say 51. Boy, you shit. Starting point is 00:41:52 A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding. But the price has gone up, so now I only buy one. The demand curve in action. And that's just one of the things we'll be covering on Everybody's Business from Bloomberg Businessweek. I'm Max Chavkin. And I'm Stacey Vanek-Smith.
Starting point is 00:42:16 Every Friday, we will be diving into the biggest stories in business, taking a look at what's going on, why it matters, and how it shows up in our everyday lives. But guests like Business Week editor Brad Stone, sports reporter Randall Williams, and consumer spending expert Amanda Mull will take you inside the boardrooms, the backrooms, even the signal chats that make our economy tick. Hey, I want to learn about VeChain. I want to buy some blockchain or whatever it is that they're doing. So listen to Everybody's Business on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on good company,
Starting point is 00:42:55 the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology,
Starting point is 00:43:39 entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. I'm going to ask...
Starting point is 00:44:23 I'm Leon Nafok, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast Fiasco, Iran Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember
Starting point is 00:44:40 today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Muhammad Ali was never afraid to express himself loudly and boldly and stays true to form in Ali and Me, an eight-part Audible original. Guided by his own words, this series explores Ali's life and legacy through never-before-heard audio recordings and discussions with those who knew him best. Muhammad had this real sense of his own personal values and principles, things he believed in, his own sense of conviction. Those convictions never wavered.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Hosted by Muhammad's wife, Lani Ali, and his close friend, award-winning broadcaster, John Ramsey, Ali and Me goes beyond the boxing ring to delve deeply into Ali's extraordinary life through conversations with Billy Crystal, Mike Tyson, Rosie Perez, Common, Will Smith, and Bob Costas. It created a North Star for me of how I want to be in the world, you know. As a child, as a young person, he gave credence to my audacity. There's no debate that this is the greatest global sports figure of our lifetime. Listen to Ali and Me, now on Audible.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Oh, Joe, because, you know, look, I think the thing for me is that it's not so much the money. It's the freedom that it allows me. That's that's that's the thing. And I worked and people because I work because I love being free. I love my family being free. I know my sister go to bed and she don't worry about nothing. I know my brother go to bed. He don't worry about nothing.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I know my mom. She's like, Hey, cause she know her baby got it. And if he got it, she got it. Yeah, my mom. My mom just played slots. I said, Mom, you just wasted my money. Let your mama, mama have fun. You don't work.
Starting point is 00:47:17 You don't work. Hey, do what you do. Go have your fun. Hey, you go to church. You want to go to church two, three times a week. You want to go play the slide with a girlfriend. Right, right, right. But that's how I am, Ocho. I'm not, like I said,
Starting point is 00:47:32 I got somebody in my life, their family needs a little something, I got you. Yeah. I know we don't go to Wales. He ain't nothing. You could have done better anyway. I know that's't go to Wales he ain't nothing you could have done better anyway
Starting point is 00:47:45 I know that's coming Ocho they gonna talk reckless about your boy but it's okay every time it's okay Ocho every time D-Hop traded to the Chiefs Ocho Mahomes might take some time to develop rapport with Hop but equipping him with a physical target
Starting point is 00:48:02 who thrives in short areas gives him many easy throws where the shutoff once rights was lost. And with his contract set to expire in the spring, Hopkins is also, he could set up, showcase his skill, and maybe get another contract from the Chiefs or he moves on down
Starting point is 00:48:17 the road. But I like this for both parties. I like this for the Chiefs. I like this for DeHart. Ocho, what you think about the trade? I just said, what show was it I said DeHart was going for the Chiefs. I like this for DeHoff. Ocho, what you think about the trade? I just said, what show was it I said DeHoff was going to the Chiefs now? Was that last week or the week before that? I thought he should have gone.
Starting point is 00:48:33 I hated that he signed with Tennessee. I understand they had the money. In the first place. You went to get that money. Thank you. Yeah, went to get that money. But the pick, him going to the chief is good it's awesome it's awesome i don't think anything is wrong with d hop you know at one point d hop was the top five receiver in this nfl and d hop is one of the greatest pass catchers in his nfl who don't drop
Starting point is 00:48:57 nathaniel up there with the chris carters and the laughing Gerald's, he can dominate the middle of the field, the short routes, the intermediate routes, you know, the pigs, the slants. Oh, he's,
Starting point is 00:49:11 I don't, I don't see him as, as much of a deep threat, but anything 20 yards and under, Oh, come on, baby. We cooking.
Starting point is 00:49:19 We told him we couldn't like, we couldn't like the chef Gordon Ramsey. That's the kind of D hop. And if you put him in the right situation, situations matter for all players. Yeah, for sure. If he's in the right situation. Using the players to his strengths.
Starting point is 00:49:33 That's what they're going to do. Andy Reid understands what DeAndre Hopkins' strengths are. You look at the old film. What did he do best when he was in Houston? Look at him in Arizona. Arizona. Arizona. You implement them in the same way in the offense you have.
Starting point is 00:49:49 I guarantee you what we're going to see. I'm not sure who the Chiefs play next. I'm not sure how much of the offense that DeHoff will know. But hell, if Amari Cooper can go have 4 for 66 in a touchdown, which do you think DeHoff can have? I think they play the Raiders. Oh. I think they got the Raiders. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say it. think DeHoffen had? I think they played the Raiders. Oh. I think they got the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:50:06 And I'm going to go out on a limb and say it. If DeHoffen have 100 plus yards, don't be surprised. Don't be surprised if they got 100. Don't be surprised if you have 100. Yeah. I definitely think they, yeah, they have, okay, I said, yeah, they played the Raiders. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's, i like that pickup i mean they were wasting this time there look i understand guys getting paid um
Starting point is 00:50:34 but you all have to know now you're gonna get paid but them catches and when the catches don't come they're gonna say you lost a step they don't care why they're going to say you lost a step. They don't care why. They're not looking at, okay, man, he ain't getting the ball. He's not getting the ball in a position that he can run and do something winning. He had to catch the ball, fall down. So something, if they hit him on the move, he could have got 20 yards. All of a sudden, now only getting 10. People are not looking at that.
Starting point is 00:51:00 No, not at all. They don't. They don't. And they always use it against you. I saw someone, I know it's early, it's early, he just got paid. I saw someone say, Devontae Smith, oh, he doesn't care about his catches. He's a team
Starting point is 00:51:13 player. You know? I said, alright, give it two, three years. Give it two, three years. You know? And the production is not up to want up up to the standards of the contract what the first thing you think i'll say you're not the same yeah sure you lost a step it don't be nothing wrong with nobody that's why i don't like when players do
Starting point is 00:51:37 that i don't like when players sit there and just wait and wait and wait until they decide to get you the ball sometimes you know you got to knock on, you know, you got to knock on the door. But if you don't knock on the door, it ain't going to never open. I agree. But you better speak up. And another thing, I'm going to just break the news now. At some point, Cuba Cup will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. You think so?
Starting point is 00:52:00 At some point. I'm not sure when it will happen, but a little birdie told me. It better happen on or before November 5th. Okay. All right. Just know I said it here first. I mean, he almost, before the Chiefs traded for D-Hawk, the team was in discussion with the Rams about acquiring Cooper Cup. However, the trade talks failed because of Cup's salary.
Starting point is 00:52:21 They wanted the Rams to take some of that salary. The Chiefs were also looking for a team that could still pay a big part of the salary, whichever receiver they traded for. And they didn't want to give up a high draft pick. The Rams weren't willing to do this, but the Titans were with Hopkins. I like it. Oh, yeah. I like it.
Starting point is 00:52:43 I like it a lot. I'm telling you, he's going to flourish he's going to flourish for the time being for this year and again I won't be surprised if he hit the ground running and starting this Raider game oh yeah
Starting point is 00:52:57 I'm trying to think is Juju hurt? yeah this is a really good pick because now, I mean, you think about it, all they got is Worthy. They got Justin Watson, Noah Gray. They got Trav. And, yeah, they really need to de-hop.
Starting point is 00:53:22 Yeah. They really need to de hot because you're already down Rice, you're down Hollywood. Rasheed Rice, down Hollywood. So your three of your top receivers down. And it's funny, you're down all, you have
Starting point is 00:53:38 all these injuries and because of the quarterback play and his decision making in the most opportune, most important times is why you're 5-0 or maybe 6-0. Yeah. That's crazy. Well, and the defense too. Oh, defense will play it unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:53:54 Yeah. Oh. Guys, it's really late here on the East Coast. Ocho has a flight to catch in four hours. I want to give Jerry Jones' article time. It deserves. Catch us on Thursday Night Football tomorrow. Full thoughts before Ocho and I are going to go in.

That's what Jerry World is. $40, $50, $70, $90. So in order to give it the proper discussion that it deserves, we're not going to discuss it tonight.
