Starting point is 00:01:10 X. Defending his new teammate, Trayvon Diggs. First, a cowboy beat writer tweeted, Trayvon Diggs grave per football focus. I don't even look at pro football focus. 2020, it was 67.2. Then 21, it was 59.6. 22, it was 66.9.
Starting point is 00:01:28 And 23, it was. 80.2, only two games, though. 24, it was 56.6 and 25 was 56.1. Statistically, he's the worst corner in the league right now, and the tape is even worse. Maybe we owe those guys at pro football focus an apology. Ocho?
Starting point is 00:01:48 Yes, sir. Then Micah responded, I feel like, what the point there is trying to publicly disrespect someone? He's not representing the star anymore. Just give the man a farewell, wish him the best. I don't know why everything has to be negative every time the breakup happens. He's better, he's in a better situation right now.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Trust me, bro going to be great again. Then he added, y'all want me to feel bad? Jared Jones slammed my name to the Cowboys Media and National Media for months. So do I think I can react to comments if I want to? Respectfully. Ocho?
Starting point is 00:02:24 Yeah, man. What'd you thinking? I mean, listen, I mean, Michael, at some point he's tired of it. Obviously, when things don't work out, why is it always the media? Why not wish the players farewell? Why do you always have to bring up the negative about him on why he's going and where he's at right now? And I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:02:45 It's tasteless to me. It's classless to me. Most times when other players from other teams, they get traded, they send him their farewells. They say thank you. Appreciate your work. I know things didn't work out the way they should. but hey every divorce when it comes to the cowboys and their players it has to be nasty it doesn't have to be some you know you expect you expect it from fans sometimes fans yes but you know the media in itself
Starting point is 00:03:09 there's so many other things that's going wrong in that organization you don't have to do the players like that they did micha like that they said they were better without them then they put up these numbers they they found numbers in a way to to justify him not being there why it was okay and why they were in a better position and now with trevon diggs they did the same thing. Well, normally reporters don't do no farewell. They might call you if they have your number. They might that might be something privately. I appreciate you. You know, you're talking to me. You was always respectful and professional with me when I was here and you were here. So I really, really appreciate that. I got a lot of that when I left Denver the first time. Even when I left
Starting point is 00:03:46 Baltimore, you know, I had a lot of guys reach out. And, you know, we stayed in contact for years. They would call and ask me certain and things I could help them on. I would be more than happy to help. But normally publicly, reporters can't. wish you the best. That's not where their job, that's not where their job is, oh, Joe. Right. But I think the thing is that people like, well, Michael,
Starting point is 00:04:09 this divorce has happened five months ago. Yeah. I think that's the thing people like, bro, you moved on with your life, you happy. Yeah, I mean, but he, in, in, in, and in, in, in, and in, in, and in, in, in, understand he was taken up for Trayvon and yes, that that's all and just reminding them five months ago,
Starting point is 00:04:27 they did him the exact same way. Mm-hmm. As much as he's done for them, obviously not being able to, you know what the end goal is. The end goal is always to win a championship. He wasn't able to bring that. But they found ways to justify him leaving and some of the things that Jerry said. And obviously, you know, we talked about it in length when it happened. Oh, he wasn't coming back.
Starting point is 00:04:47 There's no way an owner talks about a player like that publicly. And you still in his team. And you think I'm going to represent you in the right way. I agree with you. Look, like I said, last night. I'm not here to beat up, Trayvon. Yeah. He had his moments, and I just saw things that were kind of like,
Starting point is 00:05:06 had me trending. You know, I just keep my mouth shut because I hear a lot of people saying, well, we got people. They said it DM and me pitchers of him in the club or him being somewhere. Right. That ain't got nothing to do with me. I'm going to talk about his play on the field. Uh, and that's where I'm going to leave it at.
Starting point is 00:05:20 So, but I just saw the, I just saw the way it was trending. And I was like, yeah, they're going to have, they're going to have a, they're going to have a breakup here before long. And it happened, you know, the, as Brian Schottonheimer shot, he said, yeah, because we told him he couldn't go. And then the report is that he was at a concert. I don't know. I don't know if he was at a concert. But that's it.
Starting point is 00:05:46 That's inconsequential. Because when you ask them, could you stay? They said no. Right. Once they said no, it doesn't matter whether you were at a concert. And I guess, like you said, maybe maybe he just wanted to leave. Maybe he wanted out. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Right. But in that situation, once, if your boss said, you ask your boss, can I get off tomorrow? He says, no, we really need you to come in, Ocho. If you take off tomorrow, it don't matter what you took off for. Right. They did not give you the day off. So if they move in another direction, you can't be mad. Yeah, I don't think he is mad.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I don't think he is mad either way. I think obviously he wanted out. He knew it was coming. There were issues, obviously, dating back to training camp, and him choosing to do his not training camp but all season him choosing to do his his um rehab and elsewhere and not want to be in dallas obviously jerry jones and the cowboys organization taking 500,000 from him um because of his choice and wanting to rehab away from the facility correct and then obviously him saying he's healthy him being a healthy scratch him talking to the media the media saying is healthy
Starting point is 00:06:52 but jerry saying he's not healthy i mean it was so much turmoil going on there and i think he just wanted to expedite the process of him not being there so him choosing not to come back on that flight and then stay wherever he was and do what he wanted to do and he got what he wanted he got really i think the thing is also and uh you heard uh uh ever eber flus when he was talking he said some things trans hard he's like look when you have a guy that can get there suddenly and we trade that guy he's talking like a guy that knows that he's talking like a guy that knows he's not coming back. So I'm going to be truthful.
Starting point is 00:07:29 We trade and Michael. What the hell do you expect to happen with our secondary? You need a guy that can win right now. He's the one guy that can win right now. Yes. He's the one guy that if you don't double, he will wreck your defense. They don't have anybody like that.
Starting point is 00:07:46 And so with that, with Traybon not, well, maybe he was healthy, maybe he's healthy at the start and season. I don't know. I don't know. But what I do know, is that he was a guy that would take some risk. He's a feast of famine guy, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:08:03 He's going to get you, but you're going to get him. Yeah. And teams double-moved him. That's how you got to get him. You know, there are guys, Ocho, we're starting off. We double-moving you because we got to back you up. Aggressive. You're going to jump something.
Starting point is 00:08:16 So we want you. We're going to use your aggressiveness against you. And Diggs is, he's not in Dallas anymore. and people go like, well, you know, that's what, no, no, that's not the reason why. That's not the reason why. I'm not going to let you all this on Diggs. Has Digg played his best football the last couple of years? No.
Starting point is 00:08:45 But there have been a lot of guys that hadn't played their best football. Y'all think Duran Bland played his best football? Y'all paid him? He just got that bag bag. Don't think he played his best? There are a lot of guys that hadn't lived up to expectations. That's a part of it. The Cowboys got some choices to make.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Y'all problem is, your general manager is terrible. And don't nobody know that but him. And he doesn't, everybody knows it except him. Yeah. But keep him in place. I like, y'all give us something to talk about. So guess what? It's 31 years before y'all went to the NFC championship game.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Every January, we're encouraged to start over. But what if this year is about slowing down? and learning how to understand ourselves more deeply. What if this year is about giving ourselves permission to feel what we've been holding and knowing that it's okay to ask for help? I'm Mike Delarocha, host of Sacred Lessons. This is a podcast for men navigating stress, emotional health, fatherhood, identity, and the unspoken pressures were taught to carry alone.
Starting point is 00:09:57 We talk honestly about mental health, about healing generational, wounds and about learning how to show up with more presence and care. Starting point is 00:11:03 Ocho Lamar Jackson said he's planning to play Sunday against the Steelers of the regular season finale. Lamar told the reporter 100% I'm going to be out there while he missed Saturday's victory over Green Bay with the back contusion. He's been a field participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday. Lamar added he's planning to wear some protective padding for the back Sunday's game. Lamar also addressed some of the skepticism about his ability to pay through pain. I've never quit on my team before.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I've never quitting on anything, to be honest with you. I don't know where the noise came from. Ocho, is this a defining moment for Lamar's legacy? Oh, defining moment? No, absolutely not. I wouldn't call it a defining moment. Obviously, legacy, it takes time to continue to build.
Starting point is 00:11:48 They're going to be ups and downs when it comes to creating that said legacy that we're talking about. For Lamar Jackson, he has a very long way to go. He has a very, very long way to go. I don't like, obviously, when it comes to some of the great players, especially at the quarterback position. Yeah. You're going to have times like this where they're rumblings,
Starting point is 00:12:05 where you have certain people saying certain things, but you really don't understand what it is they're saying and why it's coming about about you. You think about Lamar Jackson, he don't say much. Nope. He don't say much. He don't talk much. So it's hard to be able to text some of the things
Starting point is 00:12:21 and say some things that are coming out about him unless you're internally and inside that building, which is weird to me, which is why I said what I said, when a certain beat reporter, whether it's a beat reporter for them or whether it's a beat reporter in Baltimore in general. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:12:36 I think Mike Preston is a beat or columnist? Because I think Mike, Mike, Mike Preston was he was a beat. I think he was a beat reporter when I was there. He might be a columnist now, but he, okay. Yeah, I think if I'm not mistaken, I'm not sure that they're calling Carl Hurd. The Cowherd have some things he might have said earlier in the week. Oh, did? I didn't hear.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Oh, too, I don't. Yeah, listen, I might, I might be wrong. I'm, I'm, I'm, to quote me of some things that, that, that only someone internally would know. And I could be wrong about that. But, but, but again, listen, this, this happens. This happens. I think Lamar's going to be fine.
Starting point is 00:13:16 Uh, the rumblings, you know, like I see it all the time, I'm, you know how this business works. You know how this business works. Mm-hmm. Where there's smoke, there's fire. A little bit. Always. There's always a little bit of truth, you know.
Starting point is 00:13:30 So he's going to be fine, whether it's in Baltimore or whether it's somewhere else. Because we know, you and I both know, what another team is getting. Yeah, for sure. He can bring to the table. You know, he's going to bring the table and he's going to bring some motherfucking legs with him. Yeah, I don't think he's leaving Baltimore, not no 29-year-old quarterback that's a two-time league MVP. You ain't getting rid of that. Look, and see what happens, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:13:57 I don't know if you've ever been nicked and had to leave a game, but I've been nicked and left the game. Right. But, and then the next week, I was able to play. There are certain things that happen that you're not able to go back in. You're not able to finish the game. It's okay. It's happened.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Lamar Jackson is not the first quarterback that's been knocked out of a game and had been able to go back in. It happens. I don't know. Look, if you want to say that he hadn't played up to the Lamar Jackson that we're used to seeing this year, I will concede that. But for you to question how hurt he is,
Starting point is 00:14:33 what has he ever done to lead you or make you want to question whether or not he's hurt? Everybody have very levels of pain tolerance. Pain tolerance, yes. And people like, what, shoot, look, by the time that it's shouted up, it's going to take 30 minutes to 40 minutes for the medicine to get in there.
Starting point is 00:14:54 The game's over. And he might not be a guy. that wants to shoot up everybody ain't like me i'm shooting it up and i'm trying to go next week or whatever that's me right but i don't i don't look at somebody because i did something and think they automatically should do something i don't i've never been like that right i worry about me that's all i can worry about that's all i that's really all i'm responsible for was me right so i don't like and i agree with lamar i don't know what he's done to make you question whether or not he's been hurt Like, oh, he ain't he really hurt with little old back.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Well, I've been hitting the back before. It hurt. Hello. Oh, just like Ty Simpson. Oh, Joe, you see, I, Ty Simpson, when he coughed that ball up, I got hitting the back just like that in Kansas City. And I coughed that mofo up to. Right, right up.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Take it. And the funny thing about the people that have never played sports or play anything competitive, you'd have to understand if you get needed in the back in a certain area and in a soft tissue area and you get a goddamn back contusion, Until you felt that, until you felt that goddamn blood hardened up and they're stiffing up in that certain area and you can't move and you can't bend, you'll never understand. You'll never understand. So, I mean, listen, I had a contusion right on my thigh. Someone need me on my thigh. And they got to the point where the contusion was so bad where I couldn't bend my leg. Yeah, that happened. I couldn't bend my leg. That blood settled. Bingo. I mean, so I can understand. That back area?
Starting point is 00:16:28 Oh my goodness. I could just imagine what young bull was going through. Look, my thing is, and I've been abundantly clear. Y'all be honest. Has Lamar Jackson looked this year like he did last year and the previous years? Yes or no? Be honest. No, because the numbers are not the same as they were last year.
Starting point is 00:16:50 That's all I'm saying. Hold on. He was 41 and 5 last year. Thank you. Or take the MVP. Even if you take the seasons, he got hurt a couple of, I think 20, 21 he missed four games. I miss five games each year, so that's 10 games. But if you go back and look at the season that he's won the MVP,
Starting point is 00:17:08 and last year he could have won, Chad, don't do that. Because I'm saying he doesn't look the same this year as he has in years past. Right. That's not hating. That is factual. How many touchdowns have he passed for this year? How many interceptions does he have? So when you look at it, if you just look at it objectively, I get it, that's your guy.
Starting point is 00:17:33 You're supposed to ride for your guy. But deep down, and if you want to say, Shanna, you hate it. But deep down inside, you know, man, Lamar ain't played like he been, like he liked the Lamar Jack. Like Action Jackson, I know. Right, right, right. That's it. You can be honest. I was honest when I said about Patrick Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Who the heck? I called him a home boy. State Farm didn't want to give me no credit. They call him Mahomi. Ain't nobody ever called that man Mahommy or Mahombois before I said it. They call him Patrick Mahomes. I said last year and this year, Patrick Mahomes doesn't look the same. And y'all look at it because he went to the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:18:14 But still, you've got to peel the layers away. It's okay. Yeah, the numbers are the same. I got no dog. Look, I want the Ravens to win. Outside of the Broncos, the Ravens is outroof for the Ravens. Obviously, but at the end of the day, I still got to be honest. And when the Broncos don't play well, oh, y'all forget that, though.
Starting point is 00:18:38 But I get it. You know, you know what? You more hard on black quarterbacks. I don't know. I got into a very heated discussion with my partner on television. What color was that quarterback, Coach? Yeah, he would, he would, he would white. I just say, so y'all missed that part of what me and Skip got into it about Brady.
Starting point is 00:18:56 or when I was on Romo, y'all missed that part. What about cousins? Baker Mayfield. Did y'all forget about how we went for eight, nine straight weeks until the man got traded and even when he got to Carolina,
Starting point is 00:19:09 I was still on Baker's neck. Where were y'all doing? Yeah. Hey, one thing about it, one thing I can say about you, boy, it don't matter who it is. Black, white, black, white, yellow, green, Skittles, it don't matter what it is.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Boy, you fell. If you're playing bad, You're going to say they're playing bad. That's all I'm saying. If you're playing good, you're going to say they playing good. I'm going to say that. I don't try. And people see a lot of times, Ocho, what people try to do.
Starting point is 00:19:34 If I say, Man Ocho, then play good. I'm trying to take away your pro bowls. I'm trying to take away your all pro. No, you did that. That's the going to be on your resume. Right. I'm talking about right now.
Starting point is 00:19:45 Yeah, that's all. I'm talking about right now. I stayed on Romo. When Brady didn't play good, I was on Brady. When Baker didn't play good, I was on, uh, uh, uh, Baker. when Peyton Manning didn't play good I was on Peyton
Starting point is 00:19:59 when he was losing no playoff games but y'all don't remember that they might be too young to remember that they don't they remember when I was on break hold on they too young to remember what just happened two years ago oh okay on undisputed they remember oh yeah they choose
Starting point is 00:20:18 they just try to well this no no no bro when Mahomes didn't play when Mahomes wasn't playing well this year and last year, where did he end up? Two things can be true. You can end up at a destination and still not be playing well.
Starting point is 00:20:35 It happens all the time. But just, no, I'm saying, Lamar doesn't look the same to me. When he came, he wasn't playing well before, not like the Lamar we used to see it. And then when he got Nick and came back, he wasn't the same.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Even his mom said in the play, but leading up to the playoffs, he should have. run more. But when I said it, I'm hating. His mom told him. Yeah. Hey, baby, do what you do best now. Do what you do best. No goalpost moving. His coordinator said, this is the first time if he practiced tomorrow. He will have practiced Wednesday, Thursday, Friday since week 10.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Normally, Ocho, when you're healthy, you practice, right? Yeah, especially the quarterback. It's all of because his is all. about timing. It's all about timing. Right. Yeah. Yeah, you know, y'all need, y'all got to, y'all got to, y'all got to stop making everything. So I guess when, I don't know, I need to see, I need to see, or Lasky, no, he, he
Starting point is 00:21:52 didn't, he'd, he'd, he'd want to support every quarterback. But I need somebody, I need, I need some of these white guys to do what we do. When they criticize the white quarterback, I wonder if the white people come in their chat, and come on their DM and say you hate them. I'm just like, cause I wanna see, I gotta see. Cause I know that's what we do. Yeah. I guess I just wanna see, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:22:15 I just wanna see for a day. God damn it. What happened? God damn light went out, man. Oh, I just thought you was dark skin. Nah, man, that's not funny man. Like ain't nothing going right with this shit today. My camera, hey, you ain't noticed my camera
Starting point is 00:22:33 when just clear, not too long ago, huh? You look the same. No. earlier. You ain't notice it? Yeah, I did notice it, don't you? I'm sorry. Okay, okay. Yeah, I got a, I got a, I got a Sony, I got a Sony A7, a new a new Sony A7. Then I got the new type C, uh, what do you call it type C? I don't understand all this shit on, but I had Dean, Dean, Dean, a friend of mine, obviously, Ash, no Dean.
Starting point is 00:22:59 A matter of fact, Ash, thank you, ask because, because you allow me to meet Dean, he helped me change my whole goddamn setup. So I'm going to be professional. like unc give me about two more weeks hey I'm gonna have my own team it's just gonna be two people though yeah I'm gonna have my own team I'm excited that would be awesome yeah look this would be huge
Starting point is 00:23:28 for Lamar they've been down they haven't been in first place in the division and now all of a sudden to come back and win the division he missed the game and that's what your quarterback's supposed to do what does the backup supposed to do keep you afloating to the starter comes back
Starting point is 00:23:43 right we saw Matt Jones do it do it for San Francisco. Keep them afloat until the starter gets back. Boom. Now you're in position. Okay, Lamar, when to take off? You got a former MVP, you got two former MVP's locked up. Last game of the season, winner take off.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Yeah. It's going to be a good thing. And matter of fact, all the rumblings and all the noise, it's going to quiet everybody. It is. Especially with the way the Raven started the season, OFA with a donut and to come out on the back end
Starting point is 00:24:18 you know, listen, this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. It ain't how you start, it's how you finish. So if they finish with the win and make the playoffs and win the AFC North, well guess we're going to get the credit. The same one they've been talking about. Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:34 So I honestly, look, he's going to have to play well because the defense, they don't rush the quarterback. Right. The last guy that you want to have, somebody as accurate as Aaron Rogers, then you can't get pressure on it. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:49 That's the problem. But you know what? The good thing is for the Raven defense is, even if you don't rush Aaron Rogers, who the hell are going to get open against the ball? Brother Darnell Washington is out. He hurts. His arm is broken.
Starting point is 00:25:03 DK is out. I mean, where... Calvin Austin probably is going to be out again. So you ain't got nobody but Gamewell, Frymouth. Oh, MBS. Valdea Scantlin. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Adam Thielen. Okay. So now where's my offensive production going to come from? Where are my big play? Big play is going to, my chunk plays. You mean to tell me I have to drive the ball all the way down the field, 70, 80 yards every time? It's going to be perfect because who your playmakers back there on the back end?
Starting point is 00:25:33 I don't know if you notice, but you see how they be giving up yards, or the Raven Secondary? Oh, yeah. So, hey, whoever number two on, you get in the ball. Hey, hey, Nate Wiggins had a bad game, huh? He had a bad season. Two, two, two, two, two games. He's had a bad season.
Starting point is 00:25:55 It was that bad all season? No, I don't really, I don't really wrestle. Ask the Ravens fans what they think. Hey, Ravens fans, if y'all in the chat, Nate Wiggins, it was that bad this year? Huh? What was it, was it that bad this year? Talk to me. Talk to me nice, too, now.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Yes. Marlin ain't, ain't been the same. Yeah, somebody said, I don't know if he broke his hand because you see him had like, oh yeah, he got the patent on there. Yeah, he cast up.
Starting point is 00:26:30 Yeah, he cast up. No, some people, yeah, the chat is kind of conflicted. Most of them are saying Marlin. Oh, yeah, Marlon's been bad. The secondary has been bad. What is the Ravens's secondary rank in past coverage?
Starting point is 00:26:47 But a lot of that is contributed to the front. Yeah, not being able to get any pressure. Not being able to get any pressure. Right. They say, yeah, Nate, Nate having a down year, but Marlin is worse. With the Raven Secondary, what are in past defense? Because I don't think they got nobody with five sacks. I think the person leading in sacks, he might have six if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Ooh! The DN, I can't remember his last name. I think he has six. They're 30th. and past defense. 30th? There's only 32 teams. God damn.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Okay, now, hey, now that's bad. Guess there are two teams worse than past defense, and they both of them got seeds, Colts, Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Hey, I'm glad my Bengals ain't in that. You see that? You see, we're moving on up. Y'all 27. I couldn't let you get too happy. You start to celebrate too much.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Hey, that don't make it no better. You're, you're like, well, we, we, we're 30th or worst. Oh, show, the Miami Dolphins. A new year doesn't mean erasing who you were. It means honoring what you've survived and choosing how you want to grow. It means giving ourselves permission to feel what we've been holding and knowing that it's okay to ask for help.

Starting point is 00:29:39 They brought in Hall of Fame quarterback ESPN analyst Troy Aitman as a consultant to advise organization on his general manager search. It's not a permanent role, but he'll be an advisor throughout the process for the Dolphins next general manager. Miami ownership wanted outside respected perspective from someone who had a strong relationship across the league. Damn. The team that he won three, no, my. But, Joe, what, what do you like this? I absolutely love it. I absolutely love it because this is the organization that has no ego and has no pride and understands in the direction in which they want to go.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Let's go to someone who's been there before. Let's go to someone who's won three Super Bowls and can help guide us in the right direction on who we want to put in a position. to make the right calls for our organization going forward. And the most important call is going to be a quarterback. So why not get a Super Bowl winning quarterback who's been there and done that and knows the ends and outs of what we need to do? Now, we're not asking for a permanent position. Just give us some, some guys and some guidance, you know?
Starting point is 00:30:47 Give us a feedback. And you know, what do you think about this guy? What do you think about that guy? Yeah. Yeah, it's like having it's having, It's having a GPS. You know exactly where to go, right? You know exactly where to go with your GPS,
Starting point is 00:30:58 but the directions, the directions that it provides you with, it allows you to get there much easier. Yep. So that's what Troy Aikman is for the goddamn Miami office. And I like it. I know a team that you need some expertise about a general manager.
Starting point is 00:31:12 I wish he, I wish he would have put his ego and pride aside and allowed him to do exactly what, you know, Troy is doing for the, for the goddamn Dolphers over there for the star Jerry can't put his friday Jerry won all the credit he can get the credit he can get it
Starting point is 00:31:31 he's the own up that's why that's why he can't bring in a strong coach he thought about hiring Sean Payton he was never going to hire Sean Payton because Sean Payton is going to have control you're not finished Sean Payton going to have control you're going to have control over that 53 and you're going to have some control in the drafting for it absolutely right right right
Starting point is 00:31:50 Oh, Cho, you got to realize he was the coach at New Orleans for upteenth years where he had control. You mean to tell me he can go into a situation and have no control? Not having me. And just be a figurehead, just be a face. Right. That's why he wasn't going to have to hire Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson like, no, bro. I'm not fit to let you just put players on my team that I don't want or need.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Right, right, right, right. He was never going to get somebody like that. Now, hopefully, Shottie can change the system. you know, change the culture. They have a good system, but they need defensive help. Like I said, you look at that. He's leading the league in passing. He got two, 1,000-yard receivers, a thousand-yard rushing.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Mm-hmm. And they missed the playoffs. Hey, they didn't got no problems on offense. I mean, you look at the Cowboys offense. It's similar to that of the Bengals offense. They ain't got no problems in the offense. Well, I think most people, when it comes us offensively, they'll talk about the officer line and not being able to keep Joe Burrow upright.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Right. But they got damn cowboys and bangles, but defensively. But we need, we need the overhaul. Wait, we both, we both need the overhaul. And I already said, I already said what I wanted. I said, I told Jeffrey Simmons. I told Jeffrey Simmons. Jeffrey Simmons made the Pro Bowl, right, Un?
Starting point is 00:33:08 Yeah. Yeah. So I'm going to see Jeffrey down there in Orlando. And I'm going to put a little bug in his deal. You know, you could do two things. I'm going to tell you like I told Miles Garrett. You know, there are consequences and repercussions. You feel me?
Starting point is 00:33:24 You know, so in the offseason? Pro-bos in San Francisco, Ocho. They moved it? Yeah. Okay. We're going to be there anyway. So, I mean, what's the way? Listen, I mean, you get...
Starting point is 00:33:41 Not the week before. Remember, that's the week before, Ocho. Well, we're going to be there, though, right? Ocho, it's that Saturday before. We don't get there until that Tuesday. Well, it looked like I'm going to have to make me a early trip then. Well, you go right of here.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Yeah. And yeah. On the Tuesday, do we get there? See? Oh. I told you he going to be there. I ain't going. Ash just told you we got to be there.
Starting point is 00:34:10 No, we got to be in San Francisco. We ain't got to be there. Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah. No. Hey, chat. For those you, for those. Oh, man, look, I don't want to see.
Starting point is 00:34:25 We, I. the error is, you know, it's different now. I mean, it's in the game. It's flag and it's, you know, bullying, you know, dodge ball and it's going to target. That ain't, you know, catching the ball, all that. Yeah, I understand.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I understand. And plus, you know, the thing was, it used to be, Ocho, you wanted to, you wanted, you wanted the pro bowl to be after the Super Bowl because you wanted to flex if you won. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You remember how everybody used to come over there?
Starting point is 00:34:53 And everybody, hey, man, congratulations, hey, man, let me get you a day. It was a big thing. Right. It ain't that. It's so antic. Before, half,
Starting point is 00:35:03 think about the half to because a lot of the guys that was in the Super Bowl that were going to be in the Pro Bowl. Yeah. You're right. You're right. It is what it is.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Ocho. Yeah. You think Jerry would ever do something like this, get some outside input. Hey, you know how Jerry is? I've come to learn more
Starting point is 00:35:25 about Jerry. now that I'm not a player, now that I'm on the other side of the fence, and now I'm able to see exactly how Jerry operates and handles and runs that organization. Yeah. It would never happen. It would never happen.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I never knew Jerry was like this, obviously, because I was playing the game, and I didn't know. So it's hard for me to see from the out, from the field, from the field looking in. I thought he was one of the greatest owners of all time.
Starting point is 00:35:50 Oh, as far as marketing, he is the greatest. Marketing. And what is one thing that I was great at what I was playing. Marketing. So I saw him in a completely different light. Yes. So now I'm on the other side of the fence.
Starting point is 00:36:03 And now I'm looking, well, goddamn, I understand why the brand, the product, it sells itself. The star sells itself. You've done a great job at putting them in that light. But, Jared, the other thing that you can do as well, that can take that brand and that marketing availability to the next level. But he doesn't see fit because, like you say, he wants the credit. I think the thing is, Ocho, is like one of your greatest,
Starting point is 00:36:29 the guy that help you win three Super Bowls. You don't think enough of his Ackman, his football Ackman, to tap into that reserve. Another team does. Another team. Well, maybe, maybe with him seeing another team do it, maybe he comes to a sentence and says, you know what, why don't I use Troy in that same manner as well?
Starting point is 00:36:58 I guarantee you Troy be ten times better than Jerry at it. I bet you Now look Jerry ain't watching no tape Jerry has Will McClay and he's like okay these are the guys we got
Starting point is 00:37:14 these are the guys we want and he breaks it down like that Jerry not watching no tape so Jerry get on there and talk about he knows football he knows from the jocks to the front of everything no he doesn't
Starting point is 00:37:23 you get Jerry in front of the thing so okay Jerry what coverage are they playing Jerry what's this formation you don't think Jerry can break it down like that on? No. After all these years? Absolutely not. 1,000%
Starting point is 00:37:42 not. He wouldn't know 11 personnel, 12 personnel, 13 personnel, 21 personnel. He wouldn't know any of that. Hey, that's funny. Hey, now, 9, 2, 3 by 1, none of that. No, absolutely not. Now, I'm sitting here trying to picture it too. Jerry Jones being able to break down film the same way, um.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Like a true. Like a Troy Aigwood? Like a Chuck Eichrist? Or like a John Gruden. You know how John Gruden break that thing down? Hey. I'm just trying to picture that. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:38:19 It's about Jerry played college football. Yes, 70 years ago. Wait. Hold on. Jerry played football for real? Yeah, at Arkansas. He was on the national championship team, him and Jimmy. What position?
Starting point is 00:38:31 Offensive line. He's so little. They were little back then. Oh, he wasn't fat and lost weight? No, they were small back to the line. That was like, I think that wasn't Arkansas winning championship, 64? Is that winning Arkansas won the national championship? That might have been 64.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Okay, okay, okay. Because I think Jared did the same age of my mom. Hey, I'm confused, huh? Hold on, he went to college, he played at Arkansas. So did he, he won the lotto or something to come into that kind of to be able to buy the all cabos? They had some money. They had a little money now.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Oh, they was already good. Yeah, I mean, he made more. They didn't have it back, but he was okay. Okay, okay, yeah. Oh, that's a nice little backstory. I don't know about the backstory, okay. I mean, he was, look, he wasn't, he wasn't thin like he was now.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Well, how much, Jay probably weighed 200 pounds, 210. Right, okay. But you gotta realize, offensive limo like they are not, Ocho. Okay,
Starting point is 00:39:43 I like it. I like, yeah, I show, I sure, I sure would like the back story on how you go from actually playing college football,
Starting point is 00:39:50 being a lineman, and then owning. Jerry Richardson did that. Huh? Jerry Richardson did that. You stole the Carolina Panthers? He played football. Then he played ball too?
Starting point is 00:40:03 Yes. George Hallis also. Ocho, but you got to realize you could buy a team, I mean, you bought a team for $2,000. but do you know how much $2,000 was back then?
Starting point is 00:40:15 Or you spent $25,000 or $50,000? Do you know how much money that was back then? Right. Damn. You look at you look at today's turn. It wasn't like that back then. Right. I think the Steelers, I think Mr. Rooney bought the Steelers for like $3,300
Starting point is 00:40:32 bucks that he wanted to get that he wanted to because he wanted the tracks. Oh, come on that. Yes. $3,300. See how much you get purchased the Steelers for. Jared Richardson, he started out, played football. He was on the, with Raymond, with Raymond Barron. I think they won the championship.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Right. Yeah. Steelers would bought, the franchise fee was $2,500 in 1933. He won the money at the racetrack. See? See, I'm talking about it. But do you know, Ocho, they were just getting out of the Great Depression. Do you know how much $2,500 was?
Starting point is 00:41:20 That's a lot of money back then, huh? What? Oh, $2,500. Are you hearing what you saying? Yes. Think about with $25,100 a lot of money when you were the kid. Oh, for us, for me? Boy, I would have been.
Starting point is 00:41:36 Okay. Not, not, hey, so you were born, so go back 60, go back 60 more years. You know, it is, it's hard for me to fathom and, and, and, and, graph, grass the concept, maybe because I've, never mind. God, damn. You look at it, you see, you looking at what you got now and you look at it in today's terms, but you got to, but you got to, look back then. Right. Okay. Let me, I got to put myself, I got to put myself back there in the 60s. Yeah. 30s. Okay. Joe Burr and Jamar Chase both came out and spoke today about the Bengals disappointing
Starting point is 00:42:13 season and what needs to change to get this team back to the Subbo. Burrow said, we don't want to be in the spot where we are right now. So something's got to change. Whether it's players, we're continuing to improve and get better and play championship caliber football or bringing in guys or that will or whatever there may be. Obviously something has to change. Chase, I think some of the things are pretty obvious. What we need to change. At the end of the day,
Starting point is 00:42:37 I can't really say or put emphasis on what needs to be changed because it's not my role, but it's pretty obvious. Defense and what some of the issues are need to be changed. I love Chase. Chase said, hey, my role. They play me to catch a pass and score touchdown. That's what I'm going to do,
Starting point is 00:42:55 but y'all know what it is. Yeah, hey, listen, We know what the elephant in the room is. I mean, Chase and Jamar don't, I mean, chasing Jamar, Joe, Joe, Burrow and and Jamar Chase don't need to say it. I'm not sure why the media's even asking them, asking them questions, they know what the problem is,
Starting point is 00:43:09 we know what the problem is. Those that aren't Bengal fans know what the problem is. We know what issues need to be addressed in the offseason, in the draft, and I'm hoping, I'm hoping that we continue based on some of the things that Joe Burrow has said, he's put everybody on alert. He's put everybody on alert,
Starting point is 00:43:26 and we need to do what's necessary to continue to keep our team in an advantageous position to compete from Lombardi every single year. Continue to put pieces, not around me offensively because you've done everything you can for us offensively. Well, you can prove offensive line.
Starting point is 00:43:47 I won't be mad if you improved the offensive line. Okay, you can do that. You could maybe add another piece somewhere in the guard area. Maybe I would like a nice centerpiece. well, at the center position, which is most of the time is the weak link on most teams. But defensively, we know we need to attack. We need to attack in the off season and in the draft defensively.
Starting point is 00:44:10 I personally, chat, I want us to go get Jeffrey Simmons. I'm going to talk to Jeffrey Simmons at the Pro Bowl. Yeah, I want to go get Jeffrey Simmons. Huh? Let's solidify somebody up there on that front end, on that front end, you know, and I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm sure Trey Henderson is gone. Oh yeah, he's gone.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Okay, Trey Henderson is gone. I'm not sure we can, if we can get another premiere deep as in, you know, but I know we're going to get Jeffrey Simmons. I told Jeffrey, we've had multiple conversations, and I don't want it to come to a rift. So I need to make sure that happens. You know, I'm doing my due diligence,
Starting point is 00:44:55 for the organization as well on the outside. Oh, Joe. Yeah. I'm going to give you some key figures from 1933. The average home price cost between $3,900 and $5,700. The average income was around $1,300 to $1,700. A new car costs roughly $600 to $800. And gasoline was 10 to $0.18 a gallon.
Starting point is 00:45:21 Hey, what would you do for us to be back in old time for them kind of prices? But I don't want to be back to my brother. That was a great depression. People were jumping out of the way to kill this. Hold on. No, I don't want to be back there. I'm going right here right now. Okay, I'm understanding.
Starting point is 00:45:33 I'm just saying with the price point, with the price point. Oh, Joe, blacks weren't making money like that. Do you understand if the average blacks weren't, they didn't include us in the average. I understand what you're saying, but, hey, you know, everybody complaining about the goddamn prices today. You know that? You were a sharecropper. Do you understand what you was doing? You was making pennies.
Starting point is 00:45:56 If the average income was 12 to 1700, they probably weren't a thousand black people in the country making that kind of money. Yeah. I don't know. I don't want to go back there. Well, you know what I, you know what I'd have been doing back then?
Starting point is 00:46:13 Huh? You know what I'd have been doing back then? Hustling like a lot of other black people would do it. Yeah, exactly. Well, I would have been the best bootlegger there is. You hit me? Yeah. I would have had the best rum.
Starting point is 00:46:26 Like, uh, what, hey, what's the two brothers from? from from Cinnis. Oh, I know you're talking about, yeah. I forgot the twin's name and Cinnis, boy. Hey, I'd have missed, what? Look, I grew up in late 60s, early 70s, and I know how hard we had it. I know what my grandmother, how my grandmother said,
Starting point is 00:46:48 they're doing, you know, five, 10 loads of laundry for a quarter day. Man, please. A quarter? Yes. What do you think black people ate all those scraps? You wasn't getting steak. You wouldn't have to eat ox tail.
Starting point is 00:47:06 You had to eat neck bone. That's what pig feet, chitlin's pig tail from. That's where that came from. Yeah. I don't know what people thought they were you getting ribs, beef ribs. No. Hell no. Hell no.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Hell to the not. Hey. I'll let you add that with Ocho. You go back there and let me know what it's like. No, I don't, listen, I'm, I'm there. I'm talking about the price. I ain't talking about what you had to deal with. I'm just talking about the numbers.
Starting point is 00:47:30 That's it. What, damn. How you will get? So you think you're going to be able to go back there with the money you got now and just you can transport yourself? I ain't say I wanted to go back there. I said living today could you imagine if the prices were as low and affordable as they were back then.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Hell no, that's impossible. Yeah, I know that. I know that. I'm just saying. Everybody complained about everything today. Oh, the price of eggs. Oh, milk's so goddamn high. See how much eggs are.
Starting point is 00:47:59 I mean, yeah, of course. That's why I'm just saying in general, what if it was a little bit more affordable where people weren't living goddamn paycheck to paycheck? People've been living paycheck to paycheck. What you mean? They ain't just started, don't you? Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:48:15 I don't know what I'm just saying. It'd be a little easier. That's why you need the right people in position of the power that make the cause. But every time you think if you get the right people, they get corrupted too. Because how you think they got the power? hour. Hey, I'm glad. I'm glad you know. See, that's why I stay out of politics. Because you got to be, you got to be crooked. You can't never be straight to be in the politics. Like I said, look, I remember when I was a kid, minimum wage was 3.30, was 337 an hour. I was a kid, I was a kid 40 years ago, 50 years ago. God damn. So now, yeah. But now, Ocho, guess what? It's 725.
Starting point is 00:48:57 So you're talking about 50 years ago, it's only game, it's only gone up, you know, it's doubled. What the hell is, what kind of bull a job is that? Now, you look at CEOs, C-O-Os, and you look at everybody else's income, it's gone up exponentially. So, and that's why people say they live in paycheck to paycheck, because a lot, the people that was here, money has gone here. People that was here, money hadn't gone.
Starting point is 00:49:29 nowhere. Hey, it's, it's a dirty game. And prices, home, you ain't buying no home now for no $59.00. No. I mean, pretty soon, the average house of a home go down to cost you a million dollars. Who they're going to be able to afford an American dream? Oh, pretty soon they're going to tell you to stop dreaming. Don't dream no more. Because that issue ain't coming true. You know, you know, yes. You know what, when I, I'm going to have my sister to send my thing because I remember, I got a, when I was working, I got a W-2 form from 1977.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Damn, you still got it? Yeah. But you keep every goddamn thing, man. How many, how many nine-year-olds you know got a W-2 form? I was working. I've been working all my life. That's all I done. Well, I got, I got a better one for you.
Starting point is 00:50:21 How many two-year-olds, you know, had cable and a washer machine and dry in their name? We didn't even have cable. You couldn't get cable in the country back there. Well, matter of fact, I had bad credit before I could walk. How about that? Shit. Hey, they got you. They got you.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yeah. I mean, oh, the American dream. Huh? What, the question is, who's dreaming it? And which America is it? That's a good one. Come on now. It ain't got to be Sunday for you to preach.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Man, please. Man, please. But I remember my grandmother, my grandfather left my grandma in debt like $2,500. Well, you know, I remember last, my sister, my grandma told my sister, this the last payment ain't a liby. She's like, yes, ma'am. Mm-hmm. Man, it took us like, well, it took my grandma.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Like 10 years, 15 years to pay off $2,500. You got to realize my grandma wasn't making about $197 every two weeks. Yeah. How'd head you're going to feed me, spanky, liby? At the time, Maranelle. Gladys lived at the house for probably about a year that she left with Chicago with my mom. Sherman Deen and Jane.
Starting point is 00:51:41 How'd you gonna feed that? $5 here, $10 there. That's why we worked in the summer or we got little side jobs picking up, pecans, clipping onions. That's why we chipped in because we saw how hard it was for granted to try to run out of gas.
Starting point is 00:51:59 We used to have a big propane thing. They don't have many more, but they used to have a big, a 200-gallon propane tank. Yes, sir. You run out of gas, Ocho. Well, Granny ain't got no money. You got no pay.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Me and my brother have to go down there, chop down the tree, cut it up, pull the heater from the fireplace, put it down, boom. You don't know how many times me and my brother them put sweet potatoes
Starting point is 00:52:24 into hot ashes, let them cook. Because we ain't got no gas stove don't work, Ocho. Damn. Man, please. People can't tell me nothing about no hard time.
Starting point is 00:52:34 I ain't tell you what somebody told me. When somebody was talking about, I'm talking about the 70s and the 80s. I live. I lived it. Yeah. People talk about, oh, I lived it. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:52:43 So when people talk about hard times, man, please. What we got here? Ian Rappaport reports that the Giants are expected to look at all options if they get their hands on the top pick in April. Rappaport expect them to evaluate all options, including looking at Fernando Mendoza before they make the decision on how they're going to proceed if they have this pick. Dart said this week he hadn't heard much.
Starting point is 00:53:09 from the report, but made it clear he sees he's the future in New York. I'm going to continue to play ball, play my ball. I know I'm going to be here for a very long time. I'm excited to start winning more games and turn this place around, do my job. We have a bright future and I'm standing on the sideline watching a dual ball, watching DA ball, scat was here today. When you think about this rookie class, we have a really bright future and we're going to do a really big pivot and turn this thing around.
Starting point is 00:53:38 Ocho? Yes, sir. For me, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. It wouldn't make any sense. It wouldn't make any sense. But go ahead, Ocho, what you thinking? It wouldn't make any sense at all. You got some special than Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Now, we could pull the reins back on him a little bit and get him to be a little bit more cautious and the way he plays the quarterback position. You know, he's going to be all right. But he brings something that, listen, I like McDonough. I like McDoza. I like him on. But he's not Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 00:54:06 He's not going to breathe that kind of excitement and put butts in the seat like Jackson Darden, goddamn Scatterbo can do. Nope. He's not. He definitely not. Completely different individual. If you listen to his interview zone, he's not ready for that New York media. That ain't for him. That ain't for him.
Starting point is 00:54:26 Jackson Darden is perfect for that situation. He's perfect for the atmosphere, that environment, being in New York, that is the perfect place for him. He's going to be all right. We just just got a, we got to tone some things down in a game. And he's going to be all right. Other than that, that's all. But all that, looking at all, they can, they can check all the options and every other area except quarterback. Oh, Cho, the Buffalo Bills are asking fans to help shovel snow at Highmark Stadium before this weekend's game.
Starting point is 00:55:04 Anyone, 18 years of older, get $20 per hour with food. and hot beverage provided. Ocho, I'd have been there. Wait, how much? $20 an hour. Ooh, who. Hey, what time the stadium open?
Starting point is 00:55:20 I'm gonna get that. Oh, and food? Listen, I don't need no food. Give me a hot dog. Give me a hot dog and some hot cocoa. I got you. 20 hours I'd be there all day.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Ocho, you do realize glizzies are food, right? My bad, that's a snack. They probably play. They say they play you in. That's fine. Oh no, they oh no, I'm gonna get my $20 hour. Don't do that. I'm gonna get my $20 an hour and I want to make sure I spend it. I want to spend it. I want to be there all day too. Because I'm, oh, you want to go to the game? No. Hey, a young, you want to go out there? Who? Where?
Starting point is 00:55:57 And go shovel. No. Okay. That'd have been some great content now. No, it didn't go into that. No, it ain't. You had to shovel the snow. $20 hour? I don't know if you really done manual labor. But when you done manual labor for over a decade, you're good on it, you cool on it. I did, I did construction work, Unk. In the office and college. I did, landscaping did all that.
Starting point is 00:56:23 Yeah. Poor comfort, concrete, late asphalt, yep, did root, yeah. You're like, landscaping, uncle, I was cutting grass at eight years old. That was part of my chores on Saturday. Yes. I had a lawnmower. I had to be a lot more.
Starting point is 00:56:35 Well, I'm glad that let you get to be eight before you started doing it. That's, damn. What we talk about? My grandma had me out there in her rose bed. I'm the one that had to dig them holes in the garden. Yes. I know by,
Starting point is 00:56:50 I know by it, man, your labor, dang with the guard gloves on that don't fit. Three sides is too big. Damn, you had gloves and everything. Damn, you, what? You're a hell worker. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, I still got calluses on my hand from laying.
Starting point is 00:57:08 bricks what we're talking about look at it well when you using that hammer or that shovel and you ain't got no gloves that first day them ain't bad your hands hurt so bad like lord i sure hope i ain't got to go in the morning all right i'll see you boys tomorrow damn yeah yeah i sure you want to tell great i don't want to go back so i'm going to get a son gone out there that's a good piece of job you mean it's a good piece of job working 12 hours a day for 10 15 dollars? You think that's good? Hey. Where else you're going to make that kind of money?
Starting point is 00:57:46 Boy, my grandma, hey, look here, man. You could have worked $15. Man, K, you're $5. Well, that's good money. What? I mean, if you do, I understand, granted. You work, and it was a quarter for all these loads of laundry that you and Grandma Lou and Annie Mae had to do.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Grannie, that was. 50 years or 40 years ago that 50 years ago right two dollars ain't a lot of money granny damn you could you could my grandma thought any any denomination of money right good money it was good money yes yes yes but but that's where you know it comes from that's where how I'm wired I'm a provider there wasn't a whole lot but yeah you know, working in the summer. We worked in the summer. We caught chickens.
Starting point is 00:58:45 Once, once, uh, to the backer was over, we still caught chickens during the season. Come peacock, come pecan, well, pecans was like in the, like in the winter. picking up pecans. We did that. Then with spring coming around, it was time to clip onions. Those by there your onions that y'all be eating are that, yeah,
Starting point is 00:59:03 yeah, that's what uncle was in the field. You got 50 cents, you got 50 cents, a hamper. I give, I make me a quick, you know, I make me a quick, 10, $15. And you know what you could do with $15 back then? I know what I could do. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:59:18 When I was a kid, buy some bleed jeans. Hey, you know what you could do with $15 back when I was a kid, go to the candy lady house? You know how much $15 can carry you at the candy lady house back in the 80s? No, $10. No, $5 because $10 got to go to granny.
Starting point is 00:59:33 You got to help pay some bills. You ain't going to just get all that money and just keep it for yourself. Huh? Oh, that's what you thought. No, no, no. Okay. For me, for me, it was your money. You know, it was chore money.
Starting point is 00:59:48 I understand once I wash my clothes, once I cut that grass, once I get out there in that rosebed, once I pick the mangoes that are ripe off the tree. Yeah. Once I swore up and got damn leaves, any leaves that was in the yard? Once I wash some cars. Come on, nah. I know I got, I got me a good $10, $15 coming.
Starting point is 01:00:09 Nope. That can't tell me nothing. I hear that ice cream truck coming. coming. Hey, I'm ready. Bad, please. Being my brother was talking when he was out here, he said, man, he was looking at it. He was walking around the house. He was in the backyard. He had sent my sister-in-law picture, my niece.
Starting point is 01:00:28 He's like, boy, we're sitting on the back, just talking. Yeah. I said, man. He said, when you sit back here, what you think? I say, think of how fortunate and how blessed we are. Mm-hmm. I remember used to rain. You have to go. to the bathroom be soaking wet, oh Joe. Soaking wet.
Starting point is 01:00:51 Mosquitoes. You in the South. Mosquitoes are bad. I remember all that. And I'm just sitting on nice, nice. And I'm just sitting there just thinking, Mm-hmm. God, you've been better than me and I even deserve.
Starting point is 01:01:04 Yes, sir. I don't even know what I did to deserve this favor, but I thank you. So, man. I just wish, I wish my grew up, because she was, man, I remember the first time I took my grandma to my house in Atlanta, Ocho. Uh-huh. She was pulling up because she rolled with me,
Starting point is 01:01:26 turned down the street, like, ooh. She's like, boy, you live in here? I said, yes, ma'am. So I turned in there and pull up the driveway, hit the button the garage go up. Yeah. She walked in there. My sister come up.
Starting point is 01:01:50 She's like, living there's too much house. I never thought I believe it. I never thought I see this day. She bragged about that everybody, all my uncles, all my aunts, people that she went to church with. You want to see that boy house. Mm-hmm. If she saw this one, Lord, have mercy.
Starting point is 01:02:09 You know what that reminds me of to uncle while you sitting there explaining? Remember the American gangster? Yeah. Yes. When Denzel called. You're with mom, which she came up. Yes. And Mama saw the house.
Starting point is 01:02:20 Yes. Yes. Mind me that. Yes, that's exactly how my grandma was. Yeah. She's like, oh, she's like, man, she bragged so much. Ooh. Leave me that boy guy.
Starting point is 01:02:33 I show hate to have to clean this. I said, granted, I don't clean it. That's why I pay somebody to. Hell to the dog. I don't do nothing. But it was, I mean, she was, she was just so proud. And, man, that's why I'm so appreciative of everything, Ocho. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:50 I know how hard I work. to get in the position that I mean. And I don't take any fact. I've never shied away from hard work. That's what I know. Yeah. It's just like, what you're going to do? I don't know what I would do.
Starting point is 01:03:01 I don't know if I could just sit still and not do nothing. Oh, wait, you like me. You know, I got 274 jobs, aren't? I can't sit still. I can't. I got to be doing something. I got to be doing something. I do too.
Starting point is 01:03:19 Yeah, I don't know if I could just. I don't know if I could just sit still. I got to do something. Even if I don't do number one day a week, I got to do something. I got to feel like I got to get up to do something. Because if I don't feel like I got to get them doing it, I'm like, what's my purpose?
Starting point is 01:03:34 Right. I mean, you got to have a purpose. I want you to make sure you keep the same energy too. When we win a lotto, when we win a lotto, I don't want to hear nothing about no, you taking a vacation or you ain't showing up because you just said you got to be doing something.
Starting point is 01:03:48 So I want, when we hit for about maybe six, seven, 800, Make sure you show up on this show every Monday, every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Oh, hey, I'm going to take some CTO. What's that? Choice time off. PTO is paid time off. I'm taking CTO, choice time off.
Starting point is 01:04:12 I'm headed, hey, I'm leaving on the next plane. I don't know when I'll be back again. Right. That's all right. Long as they got Wi-Fi. You good. Where have you going? I'm gonna be connected to something okay
Starting point is 01:04:25 I'm gonna be I'm gonna be I'm gonna be plur again I promise you that on Joe I promise you that I promise you that All right guys we're gonna get you here on the business Time for our final segment
Starting point is 01:04:40 The evening It's time for Q and A Oh boy that was a good one That was a good Fills and make nasty When you guys watch film What exactly are you looking for? Why watch so much film?
Starting point is 01:04:59 I'm not want to be a football coach. I'm sure he can be a live coach with all that advice. Happy 2026, y'all. What are we looking for? Well, it all depends because they break the film down. Okay, you got first and ten. So they'll put all the plays down. So we go back four games.
Starting point is 01:05:19 You'll look at what the defense they play on first and ten. Then you'll go back and look at second, second and ten. Then you got second in one to five. Then you got third and long. So third in one to three, third and three to five, third and long. So you're breaking it down. Okay, now they're going to say, okay, red zone. I'm looking at what they play.
Starting point is 01:05:42 When do they play this coverage? I'm looking at the guy, okay, let's just say I got the Sam Backer. I'm looking at, I'm going to watch for like 10, 15 minutes. I'm going to watch his feet. Are they staggered? And can I get a cue if he's blitzing, if he's dropping in coverage, or is he sitting heavy to play to try to stop the run? Make sure he don't get, don't get reached.
Starting point is 01:06:01 So you look at an area of the field, down and distance. So you're looking at all that, the coverages that they play against the formations. Then we got it formation. Okay, 21 personnel, they play this coverage. 11 personnel, which is one tied in, three wide receivers. They play this personnel. 12 personnel, they play this. So you're looking at coverages of what they play against certain formations of what you see.
Starting point is 01:06:28 So if we, let's just say we play in the Bengals. Yeah. We're going to go back. The Bengals play the Ravens. The Bengals played the Steelers. The Bengals played the Cowboys. The Bingles played the Bengals. Okay.
Starting point is 01:06:43 When they played the Bengals, in 12 personnel, they played this. When they played the Steelers, they played that. When they played this, they played that. So you got to look at all that. I remember, I memorized all the plays. Right. All the plays. So all 150, 175 plays, I remember.
Starting point is 01:06:59 That's why when John tells the story, we were in the AFC championship game, they called 324, actually we flip the formation. It was 325 all pivot. And I was like, that's not in the game playing. It's not in the game playing. And now you notice, everybody noticed, like when I start getting animated,
Starting point is 01:07:19 my voice gets high. It's not the game playing. It's not the game plan. It is now. Now go down there and get open. But I was like, bro, you should be like get open. I can do a whole bunch of stuff. So that's mainly what we're looking for.
Starting point is 01:07:35 We're looking at like certain formations. What kind of defense are they going to play to this formation? Where are we are? Are we at first down? We're second down. We're a third down. Where are we backed up? We're in midfield.
Starting point is 01:07:46 We're in the red zone plus territory. And you got to remember just like that. So they call a play. They call a play. You got to recall. I'm going to the, okay. They play this. They play this coverage.
Starting point is 01:07:56 This is primary what they play. but they did give a couple of snaps of this and you got to just like that. Yep, you got to recall it right away. The funny thing about it is when you think about the game of football and the way you just explained it is a thinking man game, huh?
Starting point is 01:08:08 Yes. People in chat, you know, I know you're watching, you're watching from home, but you're not understanding. Up here, upstairs, you've got to be moving fast, you got to be thinking fast,
Starting point is 01:08:17 and you got to be able to read and react because sometimes, the way Unc just explained it, sometimes they'll throw you a little wrinkle. Oh, yeah, exactly. What you think is coming based on down the distance and what you see, They had throw something else out there, and you've got to be able to read and react on the run and be able to adjust based on what they're doing. All within standing timing of the offense and the play that's called.
Starting point is 01:08:41 The Steelers got me. The Steelers was really the team that confused me because I didn't understand. Steelers used to be a heavy cover two team, but when they played us, they played cover six. Now, I'm looking at the backside safety, and he's wide. But I'm looking at the front side safety. He's still on the hash. you don't get wide. So what they're doing,
Starting point is 01:09:01 they're playing quarters to my side. They're playing half the field to the back side. And they kept asking me, said, why am I not getting wide? Why am I not getting wide? I say, because the safety is on the damn hash. He's not splitting. I'm not reading it's covered two.
Starting point is 01:09:16 It's cover six. And so, which means quarter, quarter half. If you notice, like when you hear quarters, mm-hmm, corner half, a quarter to field.
Starting point is 01:09:27 Yeah. One have safety have a quarter to feel. He has a quarter to feel. He has a quarter to feel. 25. We just call it 25. They call it quarters now, Ocho. Yes.
Starting point is 01:09:37 Cover five, which is two, man under. Three, two, that's cover five. So cover two, obviously, shell, you know, split safeties. Cover one, single high, cover three, you know, you rock and roll to safety. You come down, you have the safety in the hole, but you play a strong coverage or weak coverage. It's just like, but you got to be thinking. Not only I got to remember the coverage, okay, this is the play. This is the coverage that I'm expecting to get.
Starting point is 01:10:04 But if I don't get that, because in the West Coast system, you got, you got a adjustment. Right. Basically on everything. Oh, yeah, always. Am I sitting it up? Am I getting down the hole? Am I keeping up the seam? Am I breaking it out?
Starting point is 01:10:23 And I got to just remember that. And I got just like that all the while, this dude. He got, he getting hands on me. Like, I'm trying to get off him. John, I got to speed up because I know them guys trying to knock John head off. It's just a lot going on.
Starting point is 01:10:37 Right. Lainey Ray, happy New Year, guys. Thanks to my Nightcap fan for helping me get through the toughest year. My question is, did y'all make a New Year's resolution? You got New Year's resolution, don't Joe? Yeah, no, I ain't need to make one.
Starting point is 01:10:55 I ain't ever made one. I'm consistent in all that I do why I don't have to make resolutions. I'm very consistent, I'm very disciplined in certain areas, you know, but now I don't, I don't make resolutions. I'm not sure why people do as well because you got to be real with yourself. I am. How consistent are you?
Starting point is 01:11:14 Everybody easy. Everybody making New Year's resolution in January. By the time they get by the time they get the goddamn February, they didn't fell off. They didn't fell off. I got a couple. I got because of resolution. I don't want to say you. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:27 What you got? What you're working with? What you think about? I'll let you know. Okay, okay, okay. If you don't feel comfortable sharing it with the church, don't worry about it. You know, I might show up with a little one. You never know about it.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. You never know about it on. You never know about on. And you, you mumbled that. I could have swore you say I might show, like with a little one. Yeah, you never know, Ocho. What kind of, I mean, when you say little one, what you're talking about? You know.
Starting point is 01:11:59 You're talking about like, will you need huggies? Okay, okay, okay. I like, hey, there we go. Hey, okay, okay, you sure, hey, you do that. I'm gonna show you twins. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I like, I like where you're going. I like where you're going.
Starting point is 01:12:18 Nick March, oh, thank you for the words last night. I caught the show live, very rare 2025, was rough year, said tomorrow isn't promised. A very close family member took her own life this morning. I'm with you when you're right, Unk. Nick, I am so sorry to hear that, bro. I am so sorry.
Starting point is 01:12:38 I know that leaves a lot of questions for the family, but sometimes the pain is, they're trying to get out of the pain, and that's the only way that they know how. And I am so sorry, bro, but we're praying for you here at nightcap. Be quiet, yeah, 70-year-old dad. I'll be going to graduation.
Starting point is 01:13:00 I'll be, hey, Ojo, I'll be playing, college graduation with Social Security. I want my Social Security. All that money I don't put it in there talking about they might run out. Don't run out before. It's my time to get mine. Yeah. Let my kids run out on my kid. Let me get mine. They ain't
Starting point is 01:13:16 put that much in yet. They think they slick. But Nick, thoughts and prayers go to you, bro. I am so sorry to hear this about your family man, but I just want you to know our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family and you have our deepest sympathies and well wishes. Bryce, listen to me now.
Starting point is 01:13:34 after they called targeting on our SS, a strong safety, I knew it was over. That's the weakest position. Johnny, what did you say about Gunner's performance? Who got targeted? Who got a targeting call? Number 20, right?
Starting point is 01:13:58 From Georgia, no? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You anything that was targeting? Yeah, it was. You hit him in the head. Yeah, it was. I mean, you can't, just because you didn't use your helmet,
Starting point is 01:14:15 that don't mean you can't hit him in the head of the neck area even with your shoulder. Yeah. It's tough. Hey, what defenders in general are handicapped so crazy. Yeah. At the collegiate level and the NFL level.
Starting point is 01:14:34 Mike Jones. Mikey Jones. Are we sure Trinidad Chambers isn't the best quarterback in the draft? No, we're not sure. I mean, everybody's going to go through their proper evaluations. We'll see. I was very impressed. I've been very impressed with this young man all year.
Starting point is 01:14:48 You know, obviously, we, you know, we talk about a lot about the SEC. We talk about a lot of the Big Ten. So we get an opportunity to see him, and I got an opportunity to see him against Georgia and some of these other teams. And so I've been very impressed with him. His ability to throw on the run and be able to make NFL throws. That's what impressed me tonight.
Starting point is 01:15:05 He would, look, we know Georgia got guys on that defense that's going to be playing on Sunday. We have the utmost respect for Kirby because we know he get great talent and he coaches him up well. The throws at Trinidad Chambers was, making tonight, outrunning, I mean, hey, outrunning some of those fast-ass linebackers and D-Lymin to get to the edge and drop dimes,
Starting point is 01:15:27 reverse field, come back, throw on ropes. He's very, very, very impressive. I think, you know, NFL team is going to take another look at him. It's like, okay, this guy can play for us. O.G. underscore Thanos 26. Do the college football playoff bracket need to be tweaked with teams having first round buys being one in seven since last year? I mean, it's just like, I mean, it happens.
Starting point is 01:15:54 So you just want them to start playing right? I think the thing is that's the whole reward for being a top seat is that you get an extra week of rest. But I guess, you know, you're looking at it like. They're O-Fo. Everybody that had a goddamn. Indiana one. Indiana one.
Starting point is 01:16:08 They beat the hell out of Alabama. Yep. I don't know how you can tweak it. I think the thing is unless you just have them play right away, because, you know, you hear some coaches saying, we want to be O'Don by Jan first. Oh, they got two more games to be played. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:25 I mean, you got the semifinals than the finals. Yeah. And what is the semifinals? Is it next week or the night? Oh, that's the night. That's next week. I don't know why the hell. That's.
Starting point is 01:16:40 Wait, the night? Yeah, the eight? This week or next week? This week. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Ken and Mim, 3685.
Starting point is 01:17:03 Man, no matter who playing or. or the level, Unk and Ocho are the go-to-to-for-to-to-for-to-all-a-fam forever. Kenan appreciate that, bro. We appreciate your support. We appreciate your eyes. We appreciate your ears, and we definitely appreciate your word or mouth because it's because of people like yourself that we're able to continue to grow and continue to be prosperous.
Starting point is 01:17:23 So thank you very much, man. Colitoscope 1. Keep that same energy you have for Belma and T-TU, which you have for James Madison. Until Ocho Milkdud Beanhead, stop ducking fee, Go Ducks. Dukes. Oh, he's a James Madison fan here. Oh.
Starting point is 01:17:41 Man, you know y'all ain't had no business being there. Hey, just like Alabama. They won the game, much. Remember that they did win a game? I'm just saying, but still, they had no business being there just like Alabama. Alabama had everything to be in there. The Florida man for head coach at Bamma, no chance. I don't want to live in Alabama.
Starting point is 01:18:04 What's wrong with that? What? Alabama? I grew up in the country. I ain't tried to live in the country no more. You didn't been in the city long enough. No, I ain't been in the city not long enough. Every time a coaching gig come up, man, there's an opportunity for you.
Starting point is 01:18:20 There's no opportunity for me. Are you steadily closing the door that God opened now? He ain't opened it. He opened it something else for me. There you go, man. I'm talking about a door. I'm talking about another door. There you go, man.
Starting point is 01:18:37 Man, man, y'all don't listen to Ocho. The junior underscore, three, OSU, Georgia, Bamma, all gone. New Day for D-1 football, yeah? The blue blood's out of it. No Bamma, no Georgia, no Ohio State. Got Ole Miss. Got Indiana.
Starting point is 01:19:04 Yeah? College playoff looking a little different this year. Man, y'all don't be following up with Ocho, man. Hey, hey, you know what I forgot, you know, I, I forgot to see. What? Yeah, I forgot to tell the chat, man. I forgot to tell the chat, happy New Year. I remember 2025 like it was yesterday.
Starting point is 01:19:28 Yeah, man, that was, you, I was supposed to be going to a wedding. I ain't going to the wedding. Huh? Who wedding? I know you're talking about mine, because I'm, I'm, I'm, I told you I'm getting married in 2026. I know you're supposed to get married in 2025. I had my white linen.
Starting point is 01:19:47 I was gonna be walking barefoot on the beach. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, you know how life is? Life is, I know how life. Life, life. Life and life, yeah, it do that. You do that. But this is the good thing about life, you know,
Starting point is 01:20:01 is if it don't work out that time, you know, God always put something else on your plate that you can eat off of. Mm-hmm, we know you like to eat. Hey, boy, who you tell her? We know you. That's one thing about Ocho. Ocho always clean his plate.
Starting point is 01:20:18 Hey, every time. You know, I got, I used to get knee pads for Christmas. Mm-hmm. I believe it, too. Man, the way you be eating off plates, I thought you have a Grizzler Adams by now. Beard me down here. Yeah, hey.
Starting point is 01:20:41 I keep it, I keep it clean for a reason, huh? Mm-hmm. What's the day the first? I got six more days. It'll be a month. What'd you think, Ocho? Hey, but you clean, uh, a matter of fact,
Starting point is 01:20:56 hey, you was on the shade room, right? Yeah. Boy, the comments, boy, the women, Lord, that salt and pepper, boy. What are the shade room for?
Starting point is 01:21:05 I mean, it was just, I think I told a joke or something. Oh. I had to say something. But, hey, but, hey, um, hey, boy, they were like, hey, they were like,
Starting point is 01:21:14 oh, boy, we like that salt and then. We like, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, Yeah, we could do a little something with you, now. Yeah, they like that. What if I get rid of a beard and just get the goatee? Nah, I think they like the whole thing. The whole thing? Yeah, they like the chin strap.
Starting point is 01:21:28 They like the chin strap and all. Well, okay. Man, my grandma rolling over in a grade. She said, I show don't like no beards. I agree with you up in 2008 with the fastest Usain boat ran. Yeah, that was special. I just, you know, He wasn't thinking at the time I understand the jubilation
Starting point is 01:21:52 because he was so excited. He was about to win the gold medal, yada, yada, yada. But man, if he had ran through that tape like he did in Germany, I still believe the time that he ran in Beijing would have been faster than the time that he ran in Germany. That's just me, but hey. Miss Patrice, Oregon wins a big game and no love over here. Great job, my ducks.
Starting point is 01:22:20 No, they look. They play, they can't play like they played today and beat Ole Miss. I mean, you look at it, 47 carries 64 yards. They didn't run the ball extremely well. It's going to be interesting. Ole Miss can put points on the board. Their defense came to play today. They did a great job of neutralizing Texas Tech offense.
Starting point is 01:22:47 But this performance today won't get it done next week. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. But I'm going to be glued to the television. I can't wait to watch. Oh, yeah. The Sean underscore show, Unc,
Starting point is 01:23:04 oh, Cho. What's one stat fans overrate and one stat they ignore that actually predicts winning? Ooh. I mean, turnovers, honestly, Unk. That's the greatest predictor.
Starting point is 01:23:26 That's the greatest, especially once it comes playoff time. Yeah. Turnoff. Because the momentum flips so quick. very quick. More so, probably more so in the postseason
Starting point is 01:23:38 or in football low show because home field. Yep. So you must ride and turn the ball over a couple of times are you on the road? It's a wrap. Man, the momentum flipped so quick.
Starting point is 01:23:49 I mean, because think about it. Ole Miss had the momentum looked like it, and then all of a sudden, George, you got a PI, go down, three and out, right back down again. Just that fast. Just.
Starting point is 01:24:02 That fact, you don't even need help in general. The momentum to football games, matter of fact, the momentum to any sport. The momentum is going to shift. The pendulum is going to shift at some point. You don't need to help that momentum by having a turnover or making mistakes. So especially come postseason time, man, you pay double for that stuff, man. You pay double for it. Buckingale Jr.
Starting point is 01:24:32 Still don't understand why Georgia blessed that last play killed my parley. Cause they wanted to make a decision quick. You don't want him to sit around. You don't want to, I want to make him to make a decision. Because think about it, I understand you blitz, but he still got to make a perfect throw. And the guy got to catch it. The last thing I want him to do, I want to make him make a decision right now,
Starting point is 01:24:54 Ocho. I can't let that guy run around and have all day and by time. No, you can be going to make a decision right now. Shook for Rookie of the Year. Oh, Cho, Happy New Year. If Shook beats the failed cars and ends the season with a five-game winning streak, does he win rookie of the year?
Starting point is 01:25:16 I think he had a great chance. I really think it's out of him in McMillan in Carolina. Yeah. And they generally lean towards the quarterback. Always. But he's played well. Now, everybody's talking about him and the numbers that he put up against the Titans,
Starting point is 01:25:36 but they kill, should do her for the same number. Should do it through for more yards. And everybody's saying, And ain't nobody but the Titans. Y'all, I forgot y'all said that, right? Y'all don't forget anything. This is the same team, the Titans. Tyler shook through for 330 yards, and they won.
Starting point is 01:25:56 Yeah. Should do it through for 364. And then all of a sudden, his quarterback, his coach, wanted to run the Wildcat. But yes, he's impressed me. I got no problem. Maybe I was wrong about him. Let's see this thing play out.
Starting point is 01:26:13 but he's played well enough to come in as the incumbent quarterback. Yes. And see if he can lead this team. I know Kellyn Moore has the utmost faith in him. Keller Moore has dialed up some great plays, and he's run the offense. Great. Go get you a running back and get you some offensive line here.
