Pat Bell says James Hardin
is a better player than Duane Wade,
and it's not really close.
You're talking about a player
that can score it,
a player that can get to the free throw line,
a player that can pass out of the pick and roll.
A lot of people are going under Dee Wade
on picking roll, and I ain't going on front.
You feel me?
A lot of people are letting D. Ray
have that.
Joe, you played against both of them.
You know what D. Wade is. He's a first battle
Hall of Famer. He won gold medal.
He was a finals MVP. He was an
all-N-Ba selection, a multiple-time
All-Star. Pat Bell,
he played with James Hardin, and he's
played against D. Wade. He says
James Hard is not only a better player
but a match better player. Hey, Joe, before
you go, Joe,
when you have a conversation
like this, right, and we
somebody like that, Beverly, say something like this.
Who is a day?
defender, right?
I'm sure if that has been able to have the chance to play against both of them.
When you measure it by metrics and comparison,
don't you take out the accolades and the resume in general
and just talk about skill,
not what they've won as a team accomplishment?
I'm just curious.
It just depends.
It just depends.
It just depends.
It's hard, Ocho, because what we're doing is that when we say one is other
the better, we got a nitpick.
So we got to take things down.
Okay, one guy's been to this minute,
been a this many time, All-Star,
this guy's been that many-time all-Star.
This guy's been this many-time
of all-NBA selection.
This guy's been that many time
of all-N-A selection.
This guy was a finals MVP.
This guy was a regular season MVP.
This guy led the league and scoring this many times.
This guy was an all-defensive player.
So because you nitpicking.
Now, here's the interesting thing.
They're debating about who's the third best two guard
in NBA history.
one and two is already solidified.
It's Jordan and Kobe.
So the one two spot is already solidified.
We're talking about the third best shooting guard in NBA history.
Oh, Joe.
That's the funny thing.
It's not like we talk about, well, who's the best, who's this, who's that.
Those two positions are already locked.
And I'm not so sure that somebody's coming along in the very near future.
That's going to unseat them.
Yeah.
I don't think anybody's going to unsee Kobe.
Let's just go ahead and be honest.
I don't think anybody going to unsee Jordan and Kobe in the two guards, Joe.
You think so somebody's coming along.
on Joe?
I don't know.
You know, we got so many guys who surprise you.
You never know.
You never know. It's got to be somebody who's going to come along and break some of these
records.
I mean, this is, this rest is a record.
But even if you break the records, because the records don't matter when it comes to
Jordan and Kobe, because of who they, how they did it.
Everybody remember the big shots.
Everybody remember the killer instinct.
And they got the two most popular shoes.
How you're beating that on Joe, Joe?
I think you, there's some kids who, who,
Who got a chance, Ogna?
It ain't going to be easy now.
It ain't going to be easy.
It's going to be a hard feat.
But to kind of go back to what we were talking about.
Yes.
I'm taking D. Wade first.
I think James Harden has a better offensive package.
But D.Wade all around.
I don't know if y'all know this, but he's probably top five in NBA two guards for a shot blocking.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He played both fans on the floor.
He was a locked down defender when he needed to be playing.
longside LeBron.
He led the NBA in scoring one year.
I think that's a year.
When I was playing for the Hawks and we played them in the playoffs.
But I think D. Wade, man, he's accomplished so much, bro.
Like, I think it's your preference on what you like.
I think D. Wade is more of a two-way two-guard, one of the best who could post up,
make plays, obviously a champion.
And I guess it's just your preference, bro.
It is.
Yeah.
Probably D. Wade is definitely.
more a complete player.
Because before the knees got bulky, D-Wa
would take the challenge defensively.
Played really big, D-Way, played really big
in big games, all day down O2 to
the Mavericks.
Yeah. And he goes crazy.
And he wins the finals of MVP.
He's averaging, I think he average 36.
Yeah.
For that series.
Yeah.
But, but y'all know, y'all know the game is about showmen's
highlight.
Showmanship. People like points.
And James hard.
They like scoring, no, Cho.
Yeah, yeah, they like scoring, bro.
And the dribble moves, making people fall.
And James got crazy highlights in that aspect.
That's a lot where people gravitate towards,
and you still see him out here playing and balling.
So you could still be a prisoner of the moment.
But, I mean, they top five and two guards all time, bro.
And that side step, that step back.
Oh, yeah.
They get hard credit with that.
The Euro step, that side step, that step back,
that one-legged, I mean,
offensively, his package is much better than D-Ways
if that's what people are talking about.
But, you know, that's what people gravitate to him, more to score.
Damn, that's crazy.
Shea Gilgisela Alexander spoke about never letting his mental effect, his play.
Shea said, I think I just love competition.
I love adversity.
I love when things don't go my way.
It just gives me an opportunity to grow and get better.
It's easy to be super engaged when you're making every shot,
and you're up 20.
But when you're in the thick of things
and the things aren't going your way,
you really find out about yourself.
Those are the moments
and the games where I learned the most.
So as bad as it may seem,
I relish those moments.
I appreciate those moments.
I use them for good.
Man, listen,
it's hard to find anything bad to say about the kid.
Nope.
You know, yeah, it's hard to find it.
Nothing.
You can't nothing.
I mean, he seemed like he's living right.
He take care of his body.
And at the end of the day, every time he touched the flow,
Anka-Ocho, he's competing at the highest level.
I don't care who they're playing against.
He's trying to put on the show.
He's trying to score 30.
Hey, he said he was inspired by AI when he came to his shoes.
He got one of probably top three shoes in the NBA.
And he comes out.
He plays with that aggression.
He plays with that poise and patience and being under control.
And the confidence, every night, man,
it just seems like he knows the dude standing in front of him.
boy, you're going to have a long night to night, partner.
Yeah, I agree with you.
That's how he played.
You just add, Joe, you just said nobody would be able to unseat Mike, Mike and, Mike and Kobe.
I don't think so.
Michael ain't played it.
Michael retired in, and Michael ain't played a damn good 30 years in 20 years.
But Shay is, I'm not, it's very early in his career.
Does he have any chance, Joe and on, not unseat them, but still being the same.
same conversations as them.
Oh yeah, he could be in that,
he could be a one of them talking,
but see, here's the thing, Joe,
a lot of these guys are point,
them two guards masquerading his points.
Yeah.
She is a two, but he masquerades of the point.
Yeah.
But he's a two guard.
Yeah.
These guys are two, the, the Magic Johnson,
the Steve Nash, the Jason kids,
though, the John's doctors,
the other, they, they don't,
a true, true point guard.
These guys can absolutely,
Absolutely bucket getters.
Those guys wasn't getting no 50 points.
Every point guard you talk about from Tyrese maxi to Murray to, uh, uh, uh, uh, who we just,
and Shay, all these guys can go get 50.
Yeah.
John Stockton wasn't getting no 50.
Jason Kidd wasn't getting no 50.
These guys can go.
These guys are bucket getters.
They just happen to, but see, this is why they don't have eight, nine, 10
since tonight because their scores and really not facilitators.
Yeah.
They're looking more to get their shot than to get other people in
Yeah.
Luke is a point.
But he's one of the few points that can go get 50 and have 15 assists.
There ain't very,
they haven't been very many guys like that in NBA history
that can score the bucket,
score the basketball like Luca,
and you look up and like,
this man had 50 points and 15 assists.
Hey, um-J,
don't that mean if we had the traditional porting guards in today's game,
being that the game is evolved and they're more of a facilitator than a score,
then you probably don't know you won't get,
get paid as much, huh?
You saying the smaller guys won't get paid as much?
In general, if you are traditional point guard,
like the Stockton's and the magic and the money,
if you can't shoot the three,
if you can't score that ball and playmate,
you've got to be able to do all that now
at the point guard spot.
It's like the quarterback.
Everything involves around the point guard, bro.
Like, you got to be able to get to that chicken
at the point guard position.
You think you're just going to come down
and run the outfit and go to the corner
and camp out over that now.
Now, we're going to run this pick and roll.
We need you to get a bucket.
We need you to get us a great shot.
Now, whether you shooting the floater
or pulling up for three
or getting in there spraying out the guys
for three or throwing lives,
you've got to be able to do all that now,
to be elite.
Yes.
And these guys, I mean,
and these guys are big.
Ain't no more six-foot point guards.
No, no, no, no, no.
The Chris Paul days and the John Stockton days
and a small point guard.
Now, baby, look at Shay.
What's buddy named, Joe?
You know, from a...
Dan Ayka.
Yeah, that's all the year.
He's about 6-2, 6-3.
You've seen A-A., you've seen his body, though.
You see how rocked up that boy is like that?
He's going to be more like an A-I though.
He's an exception.
You see, like AI, they list AI as a port guard.
Man, hey, the only thing he did was bring the ball up.
AI was looking to get his shot off.
Yeah.
I was looking to get buckets.
But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but,
but A-Cuff a little different, though.
Like, he's going to get buckets of, Ocho,
but he has an awareness as far as, like, how to keep guys around
them involved. You know what I mean?
Having to get guys easy buckets.
Like I was telling y'all, you get your big,
some easy buckets, bro. You know they're going to
play a little harder for you. You know what I mean?
And like Luca tonight,
Luca had 40 and 10.
Yeah, Luca.
Look at 40 points in 10 of cents.
Luca way around it, bro. He gets to.
Yes. But he's not a traditional
point guard.
Nah.
Luca, Luca is, like I said,
Luca really like,
because he's so big and he can
see he got such great vision.
Luca big.
Luca, people don't really,
Luca's six, seven, six eight.
Yeah.
So ever since Magic Johnson
ushered in the big point guard
because prior to him,
the point guard were small
other than Oscar,
Oscar was like six four and a half,
six five.
Yeah.
But then if you were six nine,
you were a center or a power forward.
Right.
Before Magic Johnson.
That's what you were.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mr. Russell was six nine.
He was a center.
All the six nine guys were either centers or fours.
And then here come magic, he got the ball in his hand.
Right.
Penny Hardaway, got the ball in his hand.
Right.
So it's a different, it's a different, it's a different era now.
The traditional point guard, now, you get a guy like Trey Young,
a guy that's about six foot tall, he could score the basketball,
but Trey has led the league in a sense.
Yeah, like he, yeah.
You got to be dynamic like that.
It's just not good enough.
Oh, he could just, he could just playmate.
Nah, I mean, just facilitate.
say, nah, they can find those guys anywhere.
You got to be dynamic.
You small and you're going to play.
You got to be dynamic now.
Hey. Hey, hey, hey, you got to have some dog in you, man.
Yes.
Got to have some dog because look, when you look like that,
they're going to post you up and play, Ocho.
They're going to put you in picking rows.
Pick and roll.
You're going to be guard in LeBron in the post and you ain't got a change.
You know, you better call for help.
What do they do?
What do they do to Luca?
They put Luke in the Pick and Roll.
Okay, you want to give us buckets on the other end?
We're going to come right back at your end.
What they do to Austin Reeves, what they do to Luca, I mean, a, uh, uh, uh, uh, train.
If you, if you're going to be held on the offensive end, they will say, let's see what you can do on the defensive end.
Yeah.
Come, hey, come, no, no, no, no, no, you go back.
Oh, yeah, come here.
Hey, hey, that's why I tell these kids, bro, you want to be in the best shape possible,
especially if you're the best player because you're going to have to work the hardest.
They're going to be doubling triple teaming you and you and you're going to be out there looking,
like, man, how can I, I can't score.
That's why you're going to have to work a lot harder than everybody else, bro.

Welcome back to Dos Amigos.
Dos Amigos season two, baby.
This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in
between.
Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about the
moments that really shaped us on and off camera.
What do we invest in right now?
What is the immediate advice you give people right now?
It's to value time to be cognizant of time and how important time is.
Because once the time is up, it's up, and then that's it.
And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that push us to grow.
And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30, 40 years ago, right?
Like, we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around.
Plus, the door always stays open for a third Amigo to pull up a chair.

For us, soccer, football, is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team.
Very debatable.
And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan.
I love this game.
I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, it's beauty.
Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things,
football, soccer is the most important.

Janice has refused the buck's request to shut him down for the season.
The bus did not provide a timeline for Janus' return, but he'll miss at least a week because of a hyper extension and a bone bruise to his knee.
Milwaukee 28 and 40 is 11th place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Bobcatch, the Hornets, by six and a half game for 10th place.
place and the final spot in the playing tournament.
Janus has missed 32 games this season the most of his career,
and he's seen extended abscesses because of strains to his right calf.
The bucks are 11 and 21 without Janus in the lineup this season
and 17 and 19 when he plays.
Man, I think they're gearing up to get ready to get rid of Janus.
Because the injuries are starting to pile up on the Ocho.
Yes, you know.
You noticed that too?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he dealt with something last year.
and this year missing 32 games.
It's like, yeah.
And that's why they want to shut him down.
We ain't going nowhere.
Oh, we tried to keep the value high.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, Joe, that's a car, Ocho.
I know I want to get rid of it.
I'm going to park it.
Yeah.
I'm going to have it cleaned up and I'm going to sit in the garage.
Y'all come look at it if you want it.
Yeah.
Because the more I drive it, the more chance of somebody run into me.
There you go.
Or I'm not paying attention to somebody and I run into somebody.
There you go.
Now I decrease the value of it.
There you go.
You would like that.
Maybe he doesn't.
No, that ain't of course he don't.
Of course he don't.
Maybe he want to play to make sure that value stays high.
Nah, well, I mean, if you continue to get hurt, Ocho, I mean, you're going to diminish your value versus.
You see the value?
You see Max Crosby?
You see that?
You see, you see the value, Ocho?
You see what happened?
Hey, hold on.
Is it the same?
It's not the same when it comes to basketball, though, huh?
We talk about Yonis now.
Yeah, but I'm saying.
The injuries are starting to come with regular regularity,
and they're starting to keep him out longer periods of time.
Yeah.
And here's the thing.
His whole thing is athleticism.
He doesn't shoot the three well.
He don't shoot the other wheel.
Basically, everything is all about speed and athleticism.
Now, if I take some of that away, what are we really getting on, Joe?
Because the game slows down for you now.
Now you've got to go into a whole other package.
You got to have that 15 footer, that three ball.
You know what I mean?
If LeBron did develop his shot, Joe, he couldn't play this long.
Because if you look at the game, when LeBron comes, everybody will play with two bigs.
Yeah.
Everybody had a five or four or three or two or one.
Yeah.
And he's watched the evolution.
He said, in order for me to stare around, I'm going to have to get proficient at shooting the three ball.
Yeah.
And guess what happened?
Now he's top five and three maids.
Yeah.
He's improved.
He had to develop.
He'd go to Kareen.
I mean, Hakeen.
Now he developed a turnaround.
Yeah.
Now, he's not as athletic as he was, was.
Can he get to the rims?
Yes.
But he can't get there with the regularity
because it takes too much out of him.
He is 41.
Yeah.
But he can shoot the three ball.
Now, his three has let him down a little bit this year.
I think he's about 31, 31, 32 percent.
Where last year I think he was like 36, 37,
and there have been a couple times he's shot 40%.
Yeah.
But you have to, as you start to get older,
you've got to evolve.
And if you just rely on athleticism,
when that athleticism goes, it won't be long.
You better, hey, you better have some mean muscle memory in their shoulders and shoot that
I'm telling you.
I'm telling you.
Hey, look, because when that athleticism gone, because even you think about it,
I think I think somebody who transitioned pretty good, Uncle Ocho, was Blake Griffin
because he was just a dunker.
But then it turned into a three-point shooter.
Yes.
A mid-range shooter, you know, when he got to Detroit and he was playing and, you know,
his knee was giving him a problem.
So he's a prime example of that, bro.
You got to expand your game as a year.
years ago if you want to continue to play.
Another guy, Aaron Gordon.
Yeah. Yeah.
Aaron Gordon, when he's in an Orlando, dunking.
Yeah.
Putbacks. Now he's got that three ball.
Now he's got the middy. Yeah.
See, this is why Kevin and Rand can play a long time.
Because he can shoot it.
His game isn't relying on athleticism.
Right.
So even if he slows a step or two, he still can get that jump off.
You still got to try to block it something.
And he's shooting at a, uh,
or a damn near nine foot apex.
Good luck with that.
Yeah, you got to bring double.
Miami traded Jalen Water to the Broncos for a 22,
uh,
Jalen Wallet and a 2026 fourth round pick to the Broncos
for their first round pick this year,
as well as the third and fourth round picks are going to Miami.
Oh, Cho, clearly, clearly the dolphins are in the rebuild mode.
Rebile and picks, but don't you got,
don't you got to have something for your quarterback?
I don't know what they're doing.
I don't know what they're doing.
They got a draft picks, though.
Okay, Ocho.
They got a first rounder, and they got, they got a first,
but the fourth round is canceled out,
but they basically got a first and the third.
They got a first and the third, Joe.
But we talk about somebody coming in
and making an immediate impact,
especially at the receiver position.
You look at what Malik Willis had when it was at Green Bay.
He had some dogs around him.
He had some really, really good receivers.
They might have been young,
but he had some really good receivers around him.
Now, when we come to Miami,
there's no disrespect to them.
You got brother, two, two,
at well. You know, we have some guys. We have some good guys, but you still need that dog,
Joe. You still need that dog, Joe, as a quarterback, when you come out there and come hell
high water, you know this individual here, I can count on. I can't for him to get open every single
time. They don't, I don't think they have that right now, Joe. They have some good players,
but we need a difference maker, Joe. You need one. Now, you got a quarterback. You saw the situation
you came from. You saw what he had around him. You know why he had success in the short amount of time
that he did play when Jordan Love went out.
I hope to do the dolphins.
They do that they do the young,
young bull some justice.
Are we going to be right back in the same goddamn situation again?
Struggling.
Well, Ocho, you don't think,
you don't think they can go on the draft and get a dog?
Hey, um, who do we have?
I'm saying, I'm saying, think about this.
If they rebuild and they reloading on the,
we get rid of Waddle so we're getting rid of
Tyree.
Tarii, Tarek is gone.
So yeah, maybe we want to start young and grow with some of these young talent.
I like, you know what, the thing is, I kind of like a proven commodity.
Now, everybody, look, everybody ain't going to be Jamar Chase coming out.
Or Justin Jefferson have those type of rookie seasons.
Yeah.
Or Randy Moss have the outstanding rookie season.
But my question is, hell, the happiest people in the room are the Eagles.
Because they said if Jaylon Water went for a fucking, excuse me.
A first and a third?
Y'all got me incursion on your own joke.
If Jaila Waddle go for a first and third,
what the hell is A.J. Brown worth?
About the same or better?
About the same or better.
I don't think anybody going to say
Jalen Waddle is a comparable receiver to A.J. Brown.
The problem that A.J. Brown that everybody knows
is that they know Philly want to move it,
and they know A.J. Brown want to be moved.
Yeah.
So that's kind of the thing.
Like, we know y'all want to move him.
We're just not going to flinch and give y'all.
We're not giving you two first-rounders.
That ain't happening.
I think a first and the third is good.
The first and the third is good.
I think he's still going to get moved.
I think it'll probably be after June thing right now.
Yeah, for the cap.
I think it's going to happen in June.
But they know he doesn't want to be there.
Hold on note.
But if it happens in June, I mean, you can't draft.
You get the draft compensation next year because you know they're working on the plan,
Ocho, to try to extend draft picks out of five years.
Basketball is seven years.
Football is three years.
So they're trying to work out a proposal and propose it.
Like you can trade draft picks up to five years in advance.
So.
Hey, I don't like it on.
I don't like it.
Listen, I know they have a new regime over there in Miami.
You want to tear it all the way down.
I hope they keep Devon A-Chance.
I hope they're not going to think about giving him away
because right now that would be your best officer weapon.
They still need some type of veteran presence
for those young receivers,
someone that they can count on for that quarterback.
You got to have it.
No, the Broncos gave up a first round pick.
They gave up this,
they gave up their first round pick this year
and a second round pick.
But, hey, they think,
The fourth check can't.
The Broncos to the four to do that.
Look at the defense.
They can afford to do that.
They just, they all in it.
I'd rather have AJ Brown.
I'd rather have AJ Brown.
Wait, as opposed to the Broncos?
As opposed to Waddle.
Okay, I understand what you said.
Oh, you said you'd rather have Waddle?
I just said AJ Brown is obviously the better player.
But, hey, Waddle has no goddamn slouch now.
We can't get that.
Right, right.
We talk about somebody that can also take something short,
take some intermediate, and go to the house.
Yeah, he's the deep bread.
Yeah.
See, I don't want to just put Waddle in that boat or say,
you know, he's just strictly a deep there because he's so.
No, no, no.
I've seen him get some short stuff, you know, take it.
Yo, for sure, he got speed to burn now.
But, I mean, all on the field show,
I don't look at Waddle as one.
I don't look at Cortland Sutton.
That's a one.
No.
You don't see set as one, huh?
Nope, I don't.
Okay, okay.
I don't.
I like, I like,
I think the thing is people like,
well, he's the number one receipt.
Okay, yeah.
Everybody got, everybody got to be,
somebody got to be the number one.
But we know it makes people one.
But when I look at a number one, Ocho,
I look at a guy that says,
they're going in the game,
they got to stop him.
Okay.
I don't think people go into game
saying that we got to stop court and a sudden.
We got to stop Jalen water.
They went into the game and said,
we got to stop Tyreek.
We got to stop Jetta.
We got to stop Chase.
I think they go in the game.
We got to stop Pooker.
I think they, JSCN,
they go in the game saying we got to stop those guys.
Those are, those are guys I look at it.
Okay, that's a one.
That's a one.
I look at a Nico Collins.
That's a one to me,
Ocho.
Now everybody got their own opinions,
but I look at a one is that somebody put him the game player and says,
we got to stop him.
And I don't, I don't, I don't look at that.
When I look at Waddle, obviously, and a lot of people probably wouldn't agree with me,
for someone that has speed the burn, that can take the top off of defense the way he does,
that can just shorten intermediate routes and turn those into 70 and 80 yard touchdowns.
At times, if he's the only viable option offensively,
defense adjustments when they come out the huddle are made,
we have to worry about this individual right here.
When he goes, yeah.
Look at his number when Tyree got hurt.
What does number look like when Tyree got hurt?
And we also know why that was.
See, but my thing is, Joe, whether TJ was there or not,
whether you know, Scott was there or not, you did what you did.
That's what ones do.
It don't matter.
Okay, the number two can go out, the number three can go out.
I'm still here.
Yeah, I'm going to get mad on.
I'm going to get mad.
Okay, Joe.
So that's how, that's how I judge the number one.
I get it.
Yeah, he caught this, but no, like I said,
I judge the number one
are different than most fans judge the number one.
But, hey, to each is on.
And I'm not saying they're not bad players,
but I'm saying my criteria for being the number one,
you got to be that boy.
I like it.
I like it.
You got to be that boy.
You got to require special attention.
If somebody got a number one corner,
they need to see you.
Yeah.
I know what that.
They didn't see you.
They just got much, much, much better for what they have already.
Much better.
Who the Broncos?
Yeah.
Absolutely.
But I don't know what, I don't know what the Dolphers are doing.
They got so much, they got damn the $200 million and dead money on the camp.
They don't care.
They ain't tripping.
They're not tripping.
We can demolish everything and start all the way over from scratch.
Damn.
How do you feel about your Broncos, man?
What?
I mean, what y'all missing?
What do you think y'all need now?
Y'all got every goddamn whole field.
Nah, I still look.
We solid, but if you look
at the teams, when I look at the teams that, like,
I look at the Rams,
they got the number one receiver, Pooka.
And then you got Devante.
You look at J.S. seeing, you look at the teams,
and they got, I just like,
and look, I think,
I thought Bo had an unbelievable season.
It would have been great to see what the Broncos could have done.
And he'd been healthy.
We'll never know.
Do I think they would have won if they'd have had Bo?
Would they beat the Patriots?
Yes, I believe they...

Welcome back to Dos Amigos.
Dos Amigos Season 2, baby!
This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between.
Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about,
the moments that really shaped us on and off camera.
What do we invest in right now?
What is the immediate advice you give people right now?
Is to value time to be cognizant of time and how important time is,
because once the time is up, it's up, and then that's it.
And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that push us to grow.
And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30, 40 years ago,
right? Like, we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around.
Plus, the door always stays up.
open for a third Amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the My Cultura
Podcast Network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault and Our Stars, and now I guess also
as the co-host of the away end, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer
and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was
Mexico 86. I was nine years old. I watched every game and I fell in love. On our new podcast,
The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the
2026 World Cup. For us, soccer, football, is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel
was the star player on our high school soccer team, very debatable. And I was their most loyal and
sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, it's hope, it's heartbreak. And above all,
It's beauty.
Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important.

Yeah, absolutely.
It's hope season.

But that's not the here nor there.
I want to play making tight end.
That's what I want.
I play making tight end.
They don't have that.
They got guys.
Yeah.
Nothing special.
I don't know.
Y'all loaded.
Hell, go get Derrick.
Y'all load that receiver.
We got a bunch of receivers, but there ain't no hell raisers, man.
I'll need, oh, Joe, you need a difference maker.
The days, okay, the Patriots could win with the hodgepodge of guys.
Man, come on, that.
Everybody keep on thinking, everybody keep on thinking they're going to be,
they're going to be Kansas City.
Well, you're going to be Kansas City?
your quarterback better be my homes.
Because sometimes you need your guy
to make that guy look good.
We're going to find out
because guess what?
Everybody starts down in the bottom
in the ravine, don't you know, Joe.
You don't get to pick up where you left off.
You don't get to pick back up in the UFC championship,
NFC championship or the divisional rounds or the playoffs.
You got to start all the way in the bottom.
What have you done for me lately?
Hey, that's it.
And don't nobody care about last year.
Last year, ain't got nothing to do with this year.
Hello.
You know, hey, you know, you got the home boy.
Man, I used to date a lawyer or doctor.
What's she at now?
You ain't got no doctor or lawyer.
You're under your arm.
So I don't know what you used to have.
I'm telling you what you got right now.
You know, the hallboy?
Man, hey, hey, sharp, man.
He's a lawyer.
Yeah.
Hey, man, what I love.
Man, sharp, man.
You know, he was tripping.
You didn't seem like she was tripping
When you were strad out on credentials
Oh yeah, she at med school
And shaw were your face, y'all
Right, right, right.
Hey, hey, they can't wait to brag
on the kid, I get there.
Hey.
Hey, Joe, Ojo, you know,
And you got that whole boy.
Hey, Sean, what's your thing?
She's nice, hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Got you a little something.
Yeah, she'll, you know, he'll,
he'll a little, little doctor.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Thanks, man, that's your old.
I can't agree.
Yeah, I've been dating for a little while.
Yeah, she got her own paper, yeah, she bad, boy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
This boy, you gotta watch out for, man.
I was, hold on, who's that?
Simba was talking to tell her story
about how he introduced this girl to the game
and games slitting the girl DM.
Oh, man.
Who is that?
Who is the game?
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
You know Hurricane Game, the rapper.
Oh, okay.
Hey, hey, but y'all know how the game played now.
Y'all know it's some cats out here who don't mind now.
Hey, that happened.
Hey, putting that knife in your back and twist it a little bit.
Bro.
Yeah.
Hello, Coach.
I introduced old boy to somebody.
I said, hey, man, this is a little bit right here, Coole.
Yeah.
Hey, y'all, how you?
Now, mind you, I don't say no name, but I did put a word in for him,
helped them get a job with a team in the lead.
Take your time, man.
I entered.
Right there.
There's my people right here.
Yeah.
She's nice, she's nice.
Had two days later, she's sending me a family.
You know him?
He doesn't slam it to you.
It was nice to meet you this weekend.
Oh, that dirty business.
Oh, boy, I didn't have something worse than that.
Joe, what happened, Joe?
Talk to me.
Hey, I had, I had, did I call him?
Oh, you?
Oh, you called?
I said, bro.
I introduce you.
No, man, I thought that was her.
What difference does it make?
Hey, he's playing nasty, oh?
He playing nasty.
Joe, what happened with you, Joe?
Man, this was a long, long, long time ago.
Hold on, take your time, now.
Man, I was dating this girl, and one day after practice, she hit me, she hit me, she going off.
She was like, I can't believe you think I would,
trying to run with one of your teammates this day.
I'm like, what are you talking about?
She was like, one of your teammates called me
and said he got my number from you.
I'm like, say he got my number from you.
I'm like, man, I ain't got anybody.
So somebody didn't win.
And my phone during practice
and they got the number out and then hit her.
And now she think I'm the one put,
I told him to, you know what I mean?
Yeah, I don't do no dirty bit.
Hold on time, I joke.
He went in your phone and got the girl.
Yeah, man, got the girl number called her, then try to throw a little whoop down.
They're dirty, but, Elcho.
I can't believe you had the, oh, man.
Can I, can I be honest with you?
Yeah.
Hey, Joe, and I, like, I normally never been number one.
I always, always been in the number two spot most of the time, most of my life, most of my, you know, career, especially during my...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's why I'm so cautious because I understand how the game go, because I didn't been number one so long, I didn't.
seen everything and how it worked, you know?
So I was...
You mean you didn't be number two.
Yeah, I'd been number two so long.
So I'd have seen all the plays and all the stuff that they do in the lives.
And I didn't think that, you know, you sit here with me.
You're on the phone with him.
Oh, I'm about to go to sleep.
And so I understand that.
So I've always been real cautious about being number one,
because I understand how it was to be number two so long,
I know what the play is.
Absolutely.
Anytime I see any kind of confusion on or I see any,
any sign. Oh, that's what
that you want to do now. My
home boy ain't got no, my home boy, Ocho ain't got
no problem being a clown. He's still
service coming. He dress up
immediately. Hey, Joe,
oh, oh, you're trying to be funny.
Oh, baby, we can make it a comedy show.
That's what you want to do.
You know?
Yeah.
But Joe, I can see, Joe,
I've said there, hey, I walked up
to him. I said, hey, my boy right here.
We worked out together.
Yeah.
Hey,
Hey, Unk.
And Joe, Joe,
you've been in the big league.
Unk, you've been in the big leagues.
We live a different lifestyle.
You hear the stories all the time, Joe.
You know how the game go.
Go ahead.
Yeah.
Big fish take little fish.
It's always been that way.
And most of the time.
But if I go around,
Oh, Joe, I go around somebody.
I ain't even looking.
As a matter of fact,
I don't even feel comfortable.
I'm going to move
I'm going to move.
I'm not,
bro,
check this out.
So we there,
me and the,
I know,
I know,
oh boy,
I know to do,
but one of his home boys.
So,
you know,
I'm,
you know,
I'm doing what I'm doing,
I'm working.
Yeah.
So I,
leave,
go to another station.
She's like,
maybe I want to get you upset,
but
do,
he know that I'm with you.
I was like, yeah, why?
He said, but because
every time you look away
and I look up,
he winked and smiling.
Oh, yeah.
That's bad.
So I'm like, for real.
I said, okay.
I say, maybe you're mad.
Maybe it ain't like that.
She said, you know what?
Maybe you're right.
So we go sit down,
I'm done with my thing.
We're just sitting on the couch.
We're just sitting there.
She's leaving over.
It ain't my imagination.
He's doing it real.
And I told him that I was with you
and I think it's disrespectful.
Damn.
So I said, well, let me help.
She said, no.
No.
She said, if it's a guy,
it's my job to handle it.
If it's a lady, it's your job to handle it.
She said,
I said, no, I worry about it.
So I called old boy that he was with
because I've been knowing him for years.
I said, my man, I don't know if you know this,
but let me, let me pull you, let me pull you,
let me pull your shirt on something.
Yeah.
He said, what's, he said, what's up, Sean?
I said, oh boy, that's with you, he's being disrespectful.
I said, I didn't step to him and make no scene because of you.
But him doing what he's doing
is a reflection of you because you got him in your company.
Absolutely.
I said out of respect to you
He said you know what
He said I'm gonna handle it
He said give me 10 minutes
I'm gonna call you back
He hit me back
He said I handle it
And everything that you said you're right
He said you know I ain't got
Nothing of love for you
He said I've been knowing you since I was in college
And you always been straight with me
Yeah
So I will be straight with you
I handle that situation
I'm like dude
I say y'all
But it's always been like that with me.
I mean, I'm talking to, I might, I don't go out that much.
I might go out one time.
Yeah.
Talk to the girl.
She called me, oh, you, why you tell such a son?
I said, I didn't tell nobody nothing.
You think I want my business out there?
Well, he said that you said, he don't went back because he saw us talking.
He don't went back told the girl that I told everybody in the locker room.
I was having sex with him.
Oh, man.
Hey, what is it?
See, that's why I move.
That's why I move by myself.
It's a dirty game, Uncle Joe.
Boy, come on.
It is, it is, Ocho.
If I, if I, if I see somebody with somebody,
it ain't no misunderstanding.
She with him.
I don't care what the capacity is.
Right.
If I see y'all out of the club,
I see y'all at a restaurant,
I'm assuming y'all together.
Hello.
I'm cool with it.
Yeah.
It's too many.
It's too many to try to butt heads with you over one.
Absolutely.
I don't care how good she, how beautiful she is.
And there have been some beautiful women.
But nah, it ain't that serious, man.
Hey, Joe.
What's that?
You know first, you know, I don't know firsthand, boy.
Hey, hey.
Yeah.
You hear me?
It's a dirty game, boy.
Joe, you're not, Joe.
But see, Ocho, you keep the 12s, though.
You keep with 12?
That one thing, my boy, look here.
He keep with 12 on it.
I don't say that.
I didn't say that out, Joe.
I'm saying you ready to get married now, I'm about you.
I'm about to jump my two brooms.
Huh?
Hey, matter of fact, I'm going to sit after after I,
after I, after I whip your ass, I'm going to jump the broom.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Hey, hey, boy, I'm going to lump you up for you where now.
I just need three minutes, three minutes.
Jeff Fusses is well, man.
But who does that, Ocho?
You, I ain't no way.
Somebody says, hey, this is my girl, Ocho.
Hey, how are you doing such and such?
Indy you're going to slide him or DM?
Man, it's cats out of.
You're going to be, you're going to be winking at her?
Oh, it's cats I didn't like that.
I didn't, oh, what I don't showed you?
You showed me to them now?
You did.
There's some cats at there like that.
Who you're telling?
But my grandma, my grandma always had a saying, Joe, my grandma, my grandma, how would you know about this? Why are you talking to me like this? Like, baby, I don't understand. I don't care who you're dating. Asking me when you make it, you have to understand most of the people that you're going to meet at this point now that you are who you are and you're making what you make. It's not who you are. It's what you can do. And she might say she love you. But if anybody asking, your girl is single, depending on who the person is asking.
Joe, you're not hearing me, Joe.
Right.
I'm here.
I'm picking up what you're putting down.
You're picking on who it is trying to holler.
Absolutely.
Come on, man.
It ain't Sunday.
I'm not here to preach.
I'm not here to do that.
But there have been many examples.
Even in the chat.
There have been many examples.
I'm sure you all can understand
what I'm talking about.
And at our level, it's even worse.
At that point, it's about opportunity.
Many of those that we,
have access to are opportunists.
And when a better opportunity presents itself
and they know they can't get caught,
they're going to play the game.
Absolutely.
But y'all do realize
the night has a thousand eyes.
On most night it has a thousand and two
because somebody see you.
Take your time.
Hello. Hello.
Because that doesn't happen.
I mean, until this day,
I shouldn't die.
I ain't say nothing up.
What?
I ain't say.
What I know?
who told me, but they saw it.
Yeah.
Getting out of one car, getting into another.
Don't, to this day, don't even know.
I just stopped talking.
Thought they were low as the flow then.
Thought it, about it.
1.30 in the morning.
Yeah.
You know, you know the time in all?
No, the time.
He told me.
Yeah.
