The Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier allegedly manipulated his performance in 2023 as part of an illegal sports betting scheme. Alarms were raised after suspicious wagers were placed on Rozier in March of 2023, game between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. The NBA said alarms were raised after unusual high number of wagers were placed on Rozier to go under statistical benchmarks. The firm tasked with monitoring gambling activities,
Starting point is 00:05:19 U.S. Integrity, alerted the NBA and Sportsbook. Rozier left with a sore right foot after having scored only five points. The NBA did his own internal investigation and found no wrongdoings, but the feds are now looking into the matter. Well, if the NBA didn't find any wrongdoings, what are the feds going to do? Because if anything,
Starting point is 00:05:41 if anybody could be any more thorough than checking players and anything gambling related, wouldn't it be the NBA? And not the feds? You think I want to find something that's going on with my player and manipulating the games? That's what I want. Okay. Alright. You're right.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Think about Tim Donahue. It was the feds. Oh, Joe, I can't let, no, hell no. See where you're going with it. I see where you're going with it. But listen, protecting the shield, the NBA shield,
Starting point is 00:06:17 what, you're going to let the player skate on by without showing laying down a law? Letting other players know, listen, this is something that we're not going to tolerate. We're not having this. It's going to look even worse if the FBI
Starting point is 00:06:31 finds something when you've already done your due diligence and your research to see if he did anything wrong. I'm hoping the FBI don't snoop. I'm hoping the FBI says, okay, they did their investigation. Let's let it lie. Okay. Okay. Okay. Now what I'm hoping, I don't want to Oh, Joe, they did their investigation. Let's let it lie. Okay, okay, okay. Now what I'm hoping,
Starting point is 00:06:47 I don't want to, Ocho, they already said, what do fans think? The script is in. Man, he gave read. Do I really want that, Ocho? Right, right, right. What I don't understand with these guys,
Starting point is 00:07:01 and this is an allegation, guys are making so much money. Ocho, why would you even run the risk? Right. The risk is just too great. Right. I don't get it.
Starting point is 00:07:19 A guy that's making 19, somewhere between 19 and 25 million dollars. Right. For a few, for a couple of dollars for the homies or somebody you willing to risk that and your good name and your reputation and take, they take you.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I don't know, dude, I don't know if they take people to jail. Maybe that's a fire. I don't know. Really? Hey, everybody's mindset is different.
Starting point is 00:07:44 And just the thought of it thinking, you know what? I can get away with this. I can make a little extra cash on the side. And just the thought of it, thinking, you know what, I can get away with this. I can make a little extra cash on the side, not that you would need it, not that you would need it as an NBA player, you know, but hey. I ain't, Ocho, look,
Starting point is 00:07:57 I make X amount of dollars. I ain't trying to flip 10. If I get 10 M's, Ocho, I ain't trying to flip that. I get 10 M's on I ain't trying to flip that I'm going to take my little 5-7% and I'm going to keep it moving that's a crazy mentality man I got 10 M's I'm going to flip that thing
Starting point is 00:08:14 make that thing 20 alright good luck with that do you understand what you got to potentially do yeah the risk is too great too great. Too great. And it says Roger has made
Starting point is 00:08:33 134 M's in his career. 134? 134. That's a lot, everybody. Yes! That's a whole heap of change's a whole chain we talked about this when you make that kind of money you get access to the that the average people can't get now you
Starting point is 00:08:54 get an opportunity to put a little fun together hey somebody come in little entry level they were hey boom boom and now you hit a lick with an u. You hit a lick with this company. You hit a lick with that company. Now you 10x, 15x, 20x your money on $200,000. Look at Kobe. Body armor. 8 mil. Clipped it. Sold a Coca-Cola. 400 mil. James Harden said, hey, Kobe talked him into it it he put a little something in there boom 50 cent took stock bottom of water got sold 100 mil
Starting point is 00:09:30 do it like that guy come on guys y'all got too much money I hope this isn't true I really do I hope this is just an allegation and when the FBI do their due diligence they say nah there was nothing he really had a sore foot yada yada yada but just like they called michael porter jr brother manipulated the thing he lord have mercy yeah he's tripping

Starting point is 00:32:34 In 2023, Texas passed legislation that prohibits accessing spouse's phone, online accounts, or social media without their permission. It also prohibits tracking a spouse's vehicle or personal belongings without their consent. It is considered a Class B misdemeanor or a state jail felony. I'm going to leave my phone out. I'm going to leave it over, though. Go to sleep. Yeah, but you know what? They just ain't going to tell you they went through it. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:33:00 You see, that's how you set that trap. You got to set that trap. You're going to set the trap? Yeah. You get you another phone. Right. And you have somebody leave a voicemail or leave a voice on it. So when they call that phone, say this is such and such.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Do you call? Hey, do you call such? No. Play the voice back. Is this you? Oh, okay. Okay. You the voice back. Is this you? Oh, okay. Okay. You go to jail.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Hey, I'll be like that girl in Atlanta. You about to lose your job. You about to lose your job. Houston, we don't have a problem. Yeah. We have liftoff. We going to Houston, baby. It's raining in the morning. Hey, that phone different, man.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Phone is different. You can't make that mountain move without actually diving into that. A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding. But the price has gone up, so now I only buy one. The demand curve in action. And that's just one of the things we'll be covering on Everybody's Business from Bloomberg Businessweek. I'm Max Chavkin.
Starting point is 00:35:27 And I'm Stacey Vanek-Smith. Every Friday, we will be diving into the biggest stories in business, taking a look at what's going on, why it matters, and how it shows up in our everyday lives. own sports reporter Randall Williams and consumer spending expert Amanda Mull will take you inside the boardrooms, the backrooms, even the signal chats that make our economy tick. Hey, I want to learn about VeChain. I want to buy some blockchain or whatever it is that they're doing. So listen to Everybody's Business on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping
Starting point is 00:36:11 what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience
Starting point is 00:36:45 is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal
Starting point is 00:37:20 that looked like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask... I'm Leon Nafak, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Check this out, Ocho. It's our last segment of the evening, and it's Q&A. Triple X, Cup Sanity, my black nightcap beanie came in today. Thank you. Thank you so much. We're glad you like it. Hope you like it.
Starting point is 00:38:45 Hey, as a matter of fact, take a picture and send us a picture. You in it, bro. My question is, where is Dirk on your list of power forwards, one through ten? Tim Duncan's number one. So we're not letting Dave Nuttin dispute on that.
Starting point is 00:39:02 He's number one. Ooh. For me, I go Carmel on two. Here's where it gets tricky. Now, if Moses Malone is a power forward, I would go Moses Malone too. Right. Because Moses has three MVPs and a finals MVP. But if he's a center, he's out of this discussion.
Starting point is 00:39:41 So now it comes down, is it KG or is it Dirk? Dirk? I would go Ticket, D dirt, Barkley. Big ticket. Dr. Frankie L. Benham said, Hey, fam, just think this time next week, y'all will be coming on stage dancing to Waka Flocka Flame. I can't wait. Get your tickets now.
Starting point is 00:40:22 That's right, doc. I can't wait. I can't wait. Get away now That's right doc I can't wait I can't wait Get away You're moving Hold on We coming out We coming out to smoke And confetti
Starting point is 00:40:32 If you smoking a cigar We coming out to smoke Nah I can't smoke In the Mahalia The Mahalia I can't smoke in there Matter of fact We should come out
Starting point is 00:40:44 In the Mahalia Jackson gospel music. No. Not all that cursing you going to be doing. Absolutely not. I don't curse. I stop. You ain't notice I ain't cursed the last two, three shows? I sure appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:40:56 That's really nice. Yeah, right. See, there you go. Isaiah Lancaster, Uncle Nocho, what are your thoughts on the 49ers bringing back Robert Sala? And do you guys see bringing him being a threat next season? Also, what's your NBA Finals prediction? Yes, I love Robert Sala because, yes, even though Steve Wilkes had the defense playing at an extremely high level,
Starting point is 00:41:19 and congratulations to Steve Wilkes, the new D.C. went with A.G. to the Jets. Congratulations, Wilks. I know Wilks. Known him a long time. He used to be head coach at Savannah State, so I knew him way before he got into the NFL. So congratulations to Steve Wilks.
Starting point is 00:41:33 But I love the Robert Asalah high. He had that defense play. He got an extremely high level. Hopefully they can stay healthy. That's a big key with a team like the 49ers. But I do see them. I think the 49ers will be right back in it. They have far too many injuries
Starting point is 00:41:50 too early in the season to overcome those. That's not an excuse, but I do see them being a major player in the NFC next year. Definitely. NBA Finals prediction. I guess I got to take chalk. I'm going to take the Thunder.
Starting point is 00:42:07 And who are you taking? The Cavs or the Celtics? Probably the Celtics again. Just to be different for you, I'd go to Cavs. I'd go to Cavs calves j213 say okinocho what brand did y'all always have in your home as a kid for us it was uh it was an open box of armor hammer stuck in the yes it was in the free refrigerator yeah and free in the freezer in the refrigerator yeah yeah same and yes that grease sitting in that porch, we had Maxwell House coffee on the stove.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Yeah. Our grandma was the same. Yeah. And sometimes the fish tastes like chicken and sometimes the chicken tastes like fish. Because you all got all fried the same grease. Oh yeah, same. Yep. That's a good one. Alan Fletcher. What's up, Uncle Ocho? uh hit that usher again y'all think that's why
Starting point is 00:43:08 oh chocho why you do that man well you got people actually thinking that man ash in his ear helping him ash ain't helping me and and guess what if talking, we can both hear it. It's all good. It's all good. You had your night and night, man. I ain't tripping. I did. Every dog has his day. Today was my day.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Jenny Abrel. Y'all pray for me. I have my final three-panel job interview tomorrow for client management and operations analyst position, New York salary, manifested on New Year's Eve. Well, Jenny, here at Nightcap, we're wishing you the best of luck, but luck is not what you need. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. I'm going to say luck is what they call it.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Yeah, and you better walk it like you're honing too now. Yeah. Don't go in there shy. Don't go in there timid. Walk in that thing like Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada. Yeah. Head high.
Starting point is 00:44:17 No. What does Armisen say? Broad shoulder. Yeah. Luck goes to those that are prepared. Yeah. Luck. Yeah. No. What did he say? love goes to those that are prepared yeah love yeah no what do you say victory goes to those who are prepared
Starting point is 00:44:30 love some call it uh negash ocho what was it like meeting ronaldo or do you think he'll he will or should play 2026 world cup oh man it was cool you gotta think i met ronaldo what year was that we 2026 World Cup? Oh, man, it was cool. You got to think.
Starting point is 00:44:45 I met Ronaldo. What year was that? We were both with Nike at the time. And this is how, obviously, you've been following me for a while. My relationship with all the soccer players to date started because I was with Nike. So I met Ronaldo when he was with Sporting
Starting point is 00:45:01 years ago. Years ago. And that's when I started you know traveling over to to see everyone abroad and meeting all the players that happened to be signed with nike at the time so it was dope he was very very inquisitive about the way we trained in nfl he was he was healthy he didn't drink didn't smoke didn't do anything he's very very very extremely disciplined uh as far as diet is concerned so we're the complete opposite in that area uh but he's dope he's dope as hell man he's dope as hell very very dope jonathan said hey uncle no joke name is jonathan
Starting point is 00:45:40 was hoping y'all could wish me a happy belated birthday turn 29 any words of wisdom also I'm no longer a cowboy fan so I guess I'm already on the right path much love happy belated birthday bro 29 years of age one year from the big three oh hopefully you did something fun got a chance to hang out with family friends and loved ones but
Starting point is 00:46:00 words of wisdom believe in you yeah believe in you. Yeah. Believe in you. Trust you. Continue to work hard. And, you know, I tell people to work hard.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Hard work doesn't guarantee you anything, but I just believe without it, you don't have a chance. Tsunami. Ocho, how are you convinced That Joe Joe B Lamar or Allen Will get a Super Bowl Marino Moon Boomer
Starting point is 00:46:29 Kelly Matt Ryan Cam Culpepper Cunningham Vic Rivers Never got one
Starting point is 00:46:33 Pat ain't going anywhere I mean I just said that You know Hey Tom Brady wasn't going anywhere either But Flacco got him one didn't he Got him one Huh
Starting point is 00:46:44 Ben Roethlisberger got him one, didn't he? That's all the AFC. Yep, got him two. Same thing. Same concept. At some point, they're going to get them one. The beast, they got somebody going to slay the beast. You know, it's not going to
Starting point is 00:46:59 happen often, but it's going to happen. Johnny, Fanta, peace, love love you guys can i get a shout out uh to my cousin laurie who lost her son ryan three years ago to a fentanyl overdose happy uh his birthday uh tomorrow i would appreciate god bless yes uh we're sorry ocho and i are very sorry that you are your cousin lost her son tragically to an overdose. Obviously, that's never easy. It's always very, very difficult on parents when they have to bury a child because that's not the way it was intended to be.
Starting point is 00:47:36 Children are supposed to bury parents, not parents bury children. So I can just imagine how traumatic of an experience that was for your cousin. So my thoughts and prayers are with her. Hopefully, she's doing well um hopefully god gave her peace uh and understanding and strength to uh to realize that uh he makes no mistakes and uh he's uh her son is resting comfortably now sir kate's what's up guys? My question, even though Hornets pay LaMelo Ball already how can they bring a superstar
Starting point is 00:48:09 or a savvy vet to help them out before he even thinks about leaving? I don't think they can Charlotte is not a preferred destination just like we talked about this the other day just like San Antonio was not a preferred destination
Starting point is 00:48:24 they had to be great in the draft you had We talked about this the other day, Ocho. Just like San Antonio was not a preferred destination, they had to be great in the draft. They drafted well. You had David Robinson in 87, and he kept it afloat. And then you got Tim Duncan, who Robinson still had some tread on the tires. But then you get Parker, and you got Ginobili. And then a couple of years down the road, you ended up getting Kawhi. That's how it happened. It's not a preferred destination, say, like an L.A., like a New York Knicks.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Or, you know, yeah. Things like that happen. Would Boston be a preferred destination? I don't know about me. All those guys got traded. KG got traded there. KG got traded there. Ray Allen got traded there. Holiday got traded there.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Now, they drafted well. They got back-to-back years. They got JB the next year. I think they got JT. They drafted Rondo. They drafted the truth, Paul Pierce. But no. They traded the truth, Paul Pierce. But no. They traded for Zingas.
Starting point is 00:49:29 They traded for Derek White. So. That concludes. If I. If I. That concludes this edition of Nightcap brought to you by Boost Mobile.
