Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Daniel Alarcon, and this is my friend, is much more famous than I am. I wouldn't go that far, but I'm John Green, co-host at the podcast The Away End with my old friend Daniel. On our podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things,
Starting point is 00:00:19 football, soccer, is the most important. Listen to The Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Miles Turner. And I'm Brianna Stewart. And our podcast, Game Recognized Game, has never been done before. Two active players giving you a real look at our lives and what we actually think,
Starting point is 00:00:43 on and off the court. Nothing's off limits. We talk tanking. I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's, like, definitely happening in the WBA. We talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man. You can't be rolling around the city like this tonight before games. Check out Game Recognized games.
Starting point is 00:01:02 with Studeon Miles on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How much you wait, Wanda? Right now, about 130. I'm at 183. We should race. No, I want to leave here with my original hip. On the podcast The Matchup with Alia, I pair prominent female athletes with unexpected guests. On a recent episode, I sat down with undisputed boxing champ, Cloressa Shields, and comedian Wanda Sykes to talk about Wanda's new movie Undercard, The Art of Trash Talk, and what it really means to be ladylike.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Open your free IHeart Radio app. Search the Matchup with Alia and listen now. Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports Network. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama. And this is Freddie Rodriguez. And we're back. Dos Amigo Season 2, baby! Last time, we went deep on our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Our big breaks, our auditions, the near misses, the epiphanies, the moments that change our lives forever. This season, we're deepening our relationships, creating collaborations, and... The door always stays open for a third Amigo to pull up a chance. Listen to those amigos on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Daniel Jeremiah. And I am Greg Rosenthal. I know that, Greg. We're teaming up on 40s and free agents, the podcast that owns the NFL offseason.
Starting point is 00:02:16 This is where teams are built. Free agency, combine, pro days, trades. Every move matters. From my draft boards and mock drafts. To my vaunted top 101 free agents and how rosters come together. Quarterback movement. Surprise signings. We'll tell you what.
Starting point is 00:02:32 it means and who really wins. Open your free IHeart radio app. Search 40s and free agents and listen now. Oh, Joe, check this out. Joe Flacco's coming back for another season. The 41-year-old quarterback has agreed to a one-year-old deal to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals. The contract is for $6 million, but could be up to $9 million worth $9 million with
Starting point is 00:02:51 incentives. Blacko went off on NFL teams not signing him to be their number one quarterback. Ocho, let's hear Joe Flack. Come on, Flack. I probably do feel that way. I feel like I have unfinished business as part of why I'm still here and playing and doing all those things. And not being one of those guys to go sign somewhere, yeah, it pisses me off a little bit. But at the same time, like, I'm very happy to be here.
Starting point is 00:03:19 And that's also why I don't see this as the end. Like, that's just not how I'm viewing it in my mind. Like, I feel like I can help a team win. And yeah, it may be in a different role here, but I do still think I can help. this team win in that role. I had a lot of fun with Joe, and Joe's the guy. And believe me, I wish I was a guy somewhere. And I think teams are dumb for not having me be that guy,
Starting point is 00:03:44 but it is what it is. And I'm not going to let me, I'm not going to let them or it get me down. I'm going to be the person I am and just approach football the way I always have. So how do you showcase what you can do, you know, unless Joe goes down, you'll be playing. Is that mean camp? Does that mean? Yeah, no, I'm not even thinking about that.
Starting point is 00:04:02 And it is what it is. I'm just going to approach my job like a professional and be the best I can be in my role and have fun with the guys that I have in this locker room. What is your unfinished business to you? Well, I just still feel like I can, just like what I always have. Like, listen, I'm a football player.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I want to go out there and play and I want to still want to show people that I'm better than you think I am and all that stuff, just like I always have. And like I said, I understand that what I'm doing here is a little bit different than that. But it doesn't mean I don't still have those thoughts. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:42 He was the guy. He had at his time, in Baltimore. Yeah, he had his time. And guess what, Ocho? Guess what? He was the guy so bad. He was the guy so well. They traded back in the first round to take Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Yeah, he has to understand how this game works. The game is different now. He's not seen in the upper echelon of quarterbacks, like an Aaron Rogers. He never was. Or like a Tom Brady. So it's different. The game has passed him on.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Not only has the game passed him on, he's in a position on a good team with a quarterback that, you know, he's had some injuries. He's had a history of injuries. So this is a great position for him to be in. This is the great position for him to be in because based on Joe Burroughs history, there's a chance that he could get injured. And you will get the opportunity to show you're better than what you. you may what you may think you are.
Starting point is 00:05:35 And you're able to show teams that just they're capable of playing quarterback. Now being quarterback number one, that's probably not going to happen because the NFL has moved on. They're going much younger. And if they wanted to sign you, if they felt you were the one, you were the answer, then obviously you'd probably still be in Cleveland if that was the case. But that's just that they moved on. Or New York. Oh, yeah, or New York, the Jets.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Or Andy. Yeah, I forgot he did. He did. have a year any. Joe, you haven't been that guy for a long time. Joe, you are a very marginal quarterback. You had tremendous success in the postseason. But you do, but come on, Joe, tell my teams. Oh, he got it, he got to feel confident about himself. He got to be, he got to, he's supposed to feel that way. He's supposed to think that way. Oh, Joe, remember he got up to that hard start in Cleveland and then what happened? He went to bed. He got out to the
Starting point is 00:06:34 high start in Cincinnati. What do you do, Ocho? We're at the bed. He get up to the hard start to end in what happened, Ocho, wet the bed. Hard start to jets. Went to bed. Don't you see a real current theme? Yeah, he's not the same, he's not the same. I think deep down, maybe he doesn't know it. Maybe he feels he's much better than what has been put out on film, but the film is out there. The jury is out there, you know, that you're at best right now, you're a backup quarterback. And you're a damn good backup quarterback. You're a damn good. one you know so I is I he has to understand realistically he's not the guy he used to be and he hadn't been that in a long time he hadn't been that in a decade yeah he haven't he
Starting point is 00:07:20 oh Joe he after they won that Super Bowl Joe Flacko hadn't been the guy since they won the Super Bowl in 2012 nobody thought Joe Flacko has never made a he made the Pro Bowl this year because nobody wanted to go They couldn't get the seventh audit, the eighth audit, the ninth order, the ninth alternate. Hey, hold on, 2012. What year in Joe, man, what? They won the, they won, I think Joe Flacco came in the league in 2008.
Starting point is 00:07:48 2008, 2009. 2009 might have been his rookie year. What year is this? What year is this for Flacco? 2008, okay, 2008, Ocho. God, damn. So this is year, this is year, what, 19? And he still think he should be the start of somewhere else?
Starting point is 00:08:06 Not that's a damn mind. Hey. And the one thing we know, Ocho, this is what we know. When you're really good and you play that position. Oh, you're going to have a job, a starting job at that. And hold on now. It's only so many. Like prestigious and being in your 30s, playing 19 plus years and still playing at that position,
Starting point is 00:08:31 you should be thankful even on the goddamn roster. Thank you. I mean, no disrespect. I mean, let's be honest. No, it's disrespect. You meant it that way. Yeah, you should. How many games did Joe Flacko one since he won that Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:08:49 Regular season game. He had led a team to the postseason because when he got hurt, Lamar Jackson came in and he took them to the playoffs. Easy, boy. Lamar went crazy. Man. I do like the confidence, though.
Starting point is 00:09:09 I like the confidence. He's not confidence. That's delusion. And that's disrespect. respectful. He'd make it seem like if this Tom Brady understandable. This is this Peyton Manning. Even Aaron Rogers, the four-time MVP, a Super Bowl MVP, Joe Flacko's a MVP. I'm trying to figure that Joe Flacco has been a backup every, for the most part, since he left Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:09:39 He's been a backup. Yeah. Now all of a sudden, in year 19, when he's been a backup, basically from 2016 on Lamar came into what, 2018, so basically from 20, so the last nine years he's been a backup basically. So now all of a sudden in his 19th season, he should be a starter. Teams are dumb and he can help a team win.
Starting point is 00:10:02 You can help a team win the number and overall draft pick next year. That's what you can't give him credit for. I can't give him credit. When he does start, for some reason, he going to five, six game street looking like goddamn hell on wheels, boy. He looked like, hell on wheels.
Starting point is 00:10:18 When he, when he, when he, when he, um, when he started, when Burrow got hurt. And they, and they, oh Joe. In 10 starts last year. Guess what his record was in 10 starts? What two in, two and, two in. Oh, I'm saying, I'll get ready to say. I said two and something. The man, hey, since he left Baltimore, he fell like Lucifer from the heavens.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Never to rise again. If you know the story. God kicked him out. Hey, you got, I think he has to understand too. GMs look at that. They look at your past records. They look at what you've done on other teams. Coming in as a backup. I mean, everything is short-lived.
Starting point is 00:10:55 You get some nice magic but that magic doesn't last very long. You get you a good five or six games and that's pretty much it. Hey, hey, he's tripping. He tripping. Oh, that burst. I'm surprised. Nobody said nothing.
Starting point is 00:11:19 You do, at Ocho, being confident and delusional is a skill in it of itself. To be confident and not delusional is a skill in another self. Oh my goodness.
Starting point is 00:11:38 We ain't got no problem with the man. The man's still in the league he can still play. Ocho. Ain't nobody beating down Joe Flacco doors because they don't believe he's the guy that can help us win anything. He can help us.
Starting point is 00:11:50 If the guy goes down, he could keep us afloat for three, four weeks. But ain't nobody trying to make Joe Flacko this start. No. he's in a good for him to sit up there and say teams are dumb bro hello what he didn't
Starting point is 00:12:04 wasn't he on somebody wasn't he on his couch for a couple of days last year or he started the season in Cleveland no he started in Cleveland yeah he was the starter but where was that the year before because he got picked up off the couch somewhere maybe that was uh maybe that was the jazz maybe that was indie
Starting point is 00:12:20 yeah I forgot I forgot what I was because remember he was taking his kids to school and he was doing all that. Yeah, in 2022, oh, Joe, he was on his couch. Where did he go? They thought so, that Joe, they thought Joe Flacco was so great of a quarterback that nobody signed him in the offseason
Starting point is 00:12:47 because they knew he could help them win. And Cleveland got desperate because they got hurt and they called him up off his couch. And Flacko, Flacko tripping, man. He's in a good, look at what the team. Look at the teams that signing him. It's not an accident. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Hold on. You take you, don't know, you taking a shot at my Bengals? The Bengals are signing him up for the bill, back up. But when he signed it, when he went to Cleveland, what were Cleveland? When he played for the Jets, what were the Jets? Okay, I got you. Would he sign with Indy, what were Indy? Okay, I got you, I got you, I got you.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I got you. I got you. This delusion, that this man, he's been average his entire NFL career. Yes, he's had it in the playoffs. But what happens when we don't get to the playoffs? Ain't nobody, ain't nobody, the guy, proud of this year. The guy goes to the, goes to the, makes the pro, the pro bowl in his 18th season.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Because, oh, they, they wouldn't take me an Ocho because Ocho now, we had to do nightcare. So they said, okay, we're going to call Joe Flack oldie. Damn, Flack. Hey, hey, you got to slow down. That's, that's still my quarterback, too, now. That's still, that's still my quarterback. Well, if you like your chance of winning,
Starting point is 00:14:21 you better hope he don't play. Now, Chase's going to get his. numbers. T. He's going to catch his balls. Pause. Football. Pause.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Pause. But man, this is the mere fact. I would not have been as angry. If this man had the nerve to call 31 other teams that did not sign him dumb. I mean, think about some of the teams that need a quarterback. What teams actually need a quarterback right now?
Starting point is 00:14:52 Not that quarterback. The jury is out? He held the Raiders. Ain't no jury out. Then I came back with the verdict. They came back with the verdict 10 years ago. I'm trying to think. Joe Flacko is no longer a quarterback that can help us win a championship.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Who else? As a matter of fact, it's done been appealed. It's done went to the appellate level. It's been all up to the Supreme Court. Those nine men and women have already sent to that ruling down. It's final. Yes. Hey, uh, damn.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Joe Flacko's a guy. Congratulations. He played 19 years. Congratulations. We don't do lifetime achievement here. This man, this man still, he's still, look, he's gotten a lot out of that Super Bowl. That says something because it's not easy to win a Super Bowl. I'm not going to sit here and pretend.
Starting point is 00:15:51 He played phenomenal. He went on the road and beat Peyton Manning. He went on the road and beat Tom Brady. He beat Andrew Luck at home. And then he beat Colin Kaepernick, who's one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL and the Super Bowl. So I'm not taking that away from it. But in the process of winning a Super Bowl, which he earned, he did that. That team did that.
Starting point is 00:16:16 He was a part of a winning team. He did that. But what am I supposed to do with all this regular season since then? What am I supposed to do with the regular season before then? But you also have to understand why he's still getting jobs too, huh? even if it is a backup because he's being able to coattel off of that Super Bowl championship
Starting point is 00:16:34 off of being that Super Bowl MVP. We hope he didn't have to play. Look, I said, Ocho, if he has to play, we can get three to four games. He'll win one or two games for you. The problem is when it goes, when it goes,
Starting point is 00:16:49 he has to play the end of September all the way through midway November. Yeah. Well, hopefully God damn Joe is able to stay up right and stay injured free this year. So we ain't got no problems. That would definitely help y'all cause.
Starting point is 00:17:12 You believe that you're going to get depth. You're going to be better defensively? You believe that? Hey, we trend it in the right direction. I'm Luke Wilson. Join me each week for Film Never Lies. Since retiring from the NFL, I've had a lot of my mind, and now got my own show.
Starting point is 00:17:32 So if you're tired of lazy takes, if you want honest conversations, join us each week. Film Never Lies available on all TSN platforms and the IHeart radio app. I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault and Our Stars, and now I guess also as the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist, and John and I've known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old. I watched every game and I fell in love. On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. For us, soccer. Football is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team. Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan.
Starting point is 00:18:20 I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important. Listen to the away end with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeartre. radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up? I'm Miles Turner. And I'm Brianna Stewart. And our podcast, Game Recognized Game, has never been done before.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Two active players giving you a real look at our lives and what we actually think on and off the board. Nothing's off limits. We talk trade requests. What's the vibe of that when it's like your star player is like, well, I want to leave? And then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I don't know. I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's, like, definitely happening in the WBA. And, yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too.
Starting point is 00:19:16 They pulled me to their side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man. You can't be rolling around the city like this tonight before games, no, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And, of course, family stories. They'll be like, Mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized game with Stuyen Miles on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama.
Starting point is 00:19:43 And this is Freddie Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos season two, baby. This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy where we swap stories
Starting point is 00:20:00 about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? is to value time to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up, it's up, and then that's it. And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that push us to grow.
Starting point is 00:20:20 And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since, like, 30, 40 years ago, right? Like, we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around. Plus, the door always stays open for a third amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the Michael Duda Podcast Network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Daniel Jeremiah. And I'm Greg Rosenthal.
Starting point is 00:20:46 And this is 40s and free agents. The games may be over, but the NFL never stopped. This is my favorite part of the calendar. Yeah, mine too, Greg, free agency, the combine, the NFL draft, Pro Days, trades. This is where teams reshape their future. This is where Daniel Jeremiah makes his money. On 40s and free agents, we break down every move that actually matters.
Starting point is 00:21:07 From my draft evaluations, mock drafts, and team fits, to my top 101 free agents and how real rosters are built, cap space, contracts, and all the tough decisions included. You got quarterbacks on the move. We got teams rebuilding. It's hope season. Yeah, absolutely. It's hope season. We'll tell you what's real, what's noise, and what it means for your favorite team.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Smart analysis, real conversations every week. I don't know about the smart, but definitely analysis. Listen to 40s and free agents on the I-Hod. radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh, Joe, it's time to play a fan presented by prize picks. Here's what the staff was picked for play ahead of tomorrow's March Maddenous game. Fletcher lawyer, he's going to have at least 20 when you combine points, rebounds, and assists. He's a guard.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Who plays tech? Who Fletcher play for a Duke, huh? Purdue? Purdue. Yep. What you got? What you think? I say, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:25 I think Purdue's going to win, and he's going to have to play well in order for them to win. I got it. Fuck yeah. All right, we got, oh, Joe's boy, Darius Acuff. He's going to have 31 and a half points and assists, so he'll have at least 32 points when you consider points. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Absolutely. Is this priest, Pages, Stoyakovich, son? Andresne Stoyakovich, Illinois. guard, 10 and a half points, more or less than 10 and a half points. Is that page your son? Wow. It is? That is page your story.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I could be son, yeah. I was going to say he was at Cal. Yeah. Where his dad can shoot, I'm assuming he can too, so I'm going to give him 11. Cameron Boozer, point of rebounds and assist. He'll have at least 15. Of course. I say he has 12.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Yeah, I'm going to give him 15. I think you have about 13 rebounds. He should give me three or cents. That's the least he can do. $25 to win $150. Download the after day. Use code Shannon to get $50 lineups after you play your first $5 lineup.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Prize picks. It's good to be right. I am so excited, man. Now it's time for our final segment of the evening. What? It ain't nothing else paid. Why are you excited, Ocho? Huh?
Starting point is 00:24:17 Why are you excited? I'm going to know. I'm going to Boston tomorrow in the morning. To do what? I'm going to see France and Brazil and their little friendly at Gillette Stadium. Okay. France and Brazil. Yeah, soccer.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Is Mbapapes playing with France? I'm not sure if Mbapes playing. He has a knee problem right now. I'm not sure if you're going to play. Honestly, if I was him, being that he is hurt or something's going on, I wouldn't play him in the friendly. It's no point. The World Cup, just wait for the World Cup until June.
Starting point is 00:24:50 But if they called him up, I'm sure you're gonna play. I hope so. We gotta go to a game, huh? What? A work-up game? Yep, yeah, yeah, please, yep. Now that, I'm gonna show up to that. You know I ain't missing no soccer game.
Starting point is 00:25:15 I don't know, I might stand you up for that one. It's time for our final segment this evening. It's time for Q&A. Hey, that was a good one. That was a good one. Before we get to the Super Chats, we've got a video voicemail from our Dillard This one comes from TJ.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Let's take a listen to what TJ had to say. What's up, Nightcap Family? Jeff want to say what's going on. I've been watching you guys on day one. I want to say what's up to Ocho, Unc, and I, so Joe. I appreciate what you guys doing for a young brother like myself
Starting point is 00:26:00 out here in this harsh world. Many nights, your words have uplift me, maybe laugh, maybe think about them, and help me think about them. about my life as a man. Just going to let you guys know that you're doing something
Starting point is 00:26:15 great and special. Keep going. What are you guys doing to, like, bring somebody else along with a bit to know, interview some young men and see where you can take them in life? We do have an internship program where we take,
Starting point is 00:26:38 basically we take normally two, I think it's two to three. It's two. One this year. We take one. person from an HBCU and we let them see how the business works see if there's something that they want to do. They want to produce, be on the producer side. They want to do graphics. They want to do editing, uh, social, whatever the place may be. We bring them in and we try to give them behind the look of what it's actually like and what it entails in order to get into this business. Um, and, uh, let them see how much work actually comes along with this, Ocho. So that's, that's kind of
Starting point is 00:27:09 what we do. Um, I get people from time to time, guys reach out from time to time and, and ask me questions. I don't volunteer information anymore, no, Joe. Why not? You know, because it's just better if people reach out. I think it's better received when people reach out. It'll be better received because I don't want people that. Ain't nobody asking you for that.
Starting point is 00:27:30 So I was just like, you know what? You're right. You're exactly right. He didn't ask me for that. I should keep my damn mouth shut. That's what I do. So when guys reach out, I have no problem picking up the phone. They're like, oh, hey, do me, hey, can I have your number?
Starting point is 00:27:42 I want to ask you and run something by you. I shoot my number. number, they hit me up. We have a conversation. Go no further than them and I having a conversation. But yeah, that's kind of the approach that we, TJ, that we take. I do try to give back to my HBCUs because I think some of them do want to get into this line of work and maybe they don't have the same advantages as some of the other
Starting point is 00:28:05 schools do. So that's my way of trying to give back. Yeah. Sam, Lou McGraths said, Flacco doesn't got on the unc skin so bad. He doesn't wear it. alone. Now, I don't like the fact that you're talking about teams are done for not signing him.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Nah, they're smart. Hey, can a bridge quarterback and a running offense, maybe Arizona, if they draft the QB? Wait, say that again? He said, oh, they're talking about, I guess he's talking about Placo. Flacco could be a bridge quarterback
Starting point is 00:28:40 and they're running up, I guess, if Arizona drafts a quarterback. So they said, like, he can, be the bridge. But even on the bridge, teams are trying to win. Hold on. Wait, back to that question, how many teams in the NFL are running, are running teams anyway in this past Happy League?
Starting point is 00:28:59 Because you can't win running the ball. This ain't the early 2000s. It's not the 90s. It is absolutely not. It is absolutely not, don't you? I promise you, if Arizona thought Joe Flacco was the answer. Uh, Kevin Bout Knight, what's up, Nightcap? Your boy, 46 today, had a lot. the blast with the wife enjoying my day, my weekend, and enjoy my Shabal by La Portier.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Happy birthday. Hey, Kim. Thank you, bro. Happy birthday, my boy. Happy 46th birthday, man. You and the wife, y'all did something. I know you're on the spark. You know, hey, were you ready to perform?
Starting point is 00:29:43 As you saw Tom Brady this weekend, he still got it. The bro Sparks, have a thinking. You still got it. I'm telling you, it won't let you down. But happy birthday, bro. Thank you for the support. because you jump in the chats all the time. I see your name in the chat,
Starting point is 00:29:58 the super chat. So man, we'll really, really appreciate that. Wazoo, imagine Pistol Pete in this era. Bro. Y'all do realize that Pistol Pee shot like 41%, 42%. He was shooting the ball like 37, 38 times a game. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Yes. He averaged 44, but he was taking them damn near 40 shots to get it. And I, it was fancy, fancy. Nobody shot high percentages back then. Guys are better. It's called evolution. Guys, there are more guys that can shoot the ball better and do things better than what, it happens.
Starting point is 00:30:38 It happens in baseball. I mean, baseball now, guys don't hear for average because now they've changed it. They just want you to hit the ball over the fence. So guys are swinging, trying to, they're trying to get no singles, no doubles. They ain't tried to move to runner. They tried to move to runner around the base pads,
Starting point is 00:30:52 Bill hitting the ball over the fence. But basketball, Ocho, these guys, there are more guys that can shoot the ball at a high clip than what they could in the past. And that's okay. Brennan Thomas 4134. Hey, y'all. My wife, Gabrielle, and I had our eight-year anniversary on Monday. And she's been my ride or die from the very beginning throughout my military career.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Can you guys give her an anniversary and appreciation shout out? We absolutely can. Gabrielle, thank you. Thank you for allowing Brennan to be the best he can do and protect us. because while we get an opportunity and a lot of men and women in this country is people like your husband, Brennan, that goes out there and makes sure we sleep well at night.
Starting point is 00:31:37 So we're glad he's on that wall. And you, Gabrielle, thank you. Because you hold it down. And for him to get on here and ask us to give you an appreciation shout-up, not just an anniversary, an appreciation for what you do. Because, you know, a lot of times these military families, they have people that are counting on them and want them to see them come home.
Starting point is 00:31:59 And that sometimes goes unnoticed. But we just want you to know, Brennan, it doesn't go unnotice here at Nightcap. We appreciate you. And we appreciate you, Gabrielle, for allowing him to be the best he possibly can be. So happy anniversary and happy appreciation. Salute.
Starting point is 00:32:16 G. Mike 2. The last greatest pro game with high competition with the 2024 Olympics, U.S. versus Serbia and Paris. He met the French team It was in Paris Hands down It was
Starting point is 00:32:30 It was great They were down Basically the whole game By Serbia It was down by as many I think 12, 14 points And LeBron And Steph and Katie said
Starting point is 00:32:41 Nah We ain't losing this You're not That's the game Steph went crazy With the back-to-back threes That was No that was
Starting point is 00:32:50 France That was France That was France but that was great game and that was too close for my liking I'm looking for something, Mocho hold on, let me use the bathroom. I drink too much water. Go ahead. I drug a bunch too.
Starting point is 00:33:22 But I'll let you have it though. No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm Luke Wilson. Join me each week for Film Never Lies. Since retiring from the NFL, I've had a lot of my mind and now got my own show. So if you're tired of lazy takes, if you want honest conversations, join us each week. Film Never Lies, available on all TSN platforms in the IHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:33:54 I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault and Our Stars, and now I guess also as the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old.
Starting point is 00:34:11 I watched every game and I fell in love. On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. For us, Soccer football is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team. Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, it's beauty. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important. Listen to the away end with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up? I'm Miles Turner. And I'm Brianna Stewart. And our podcast, Game Recognized Game, has never been done before.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Two active players giving you a real look at our lives and what we actually think on and off the court. Nothing's off limits. We talk trade requests. What's the vibe of that when it's like your star player is like, well, I want to leave? And then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer. I think it's like definitely happening in the WBA. And yeah, we talk about our mistakes too.
Starting point is 00:35:30 They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man, you can't be rolling around the city like this tonight before games, no, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And of course, family stories. They'll be like, Mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized game with Stuy and Miles on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get.
Starting point is 00:35:54 get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama. And this is Freddie Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos season two, baby. This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about the
Starting point is 00:36:14 moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? is to value time to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up, it's up, and then that's it. And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that push us to grow. And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since, like, 30, 40 years ago, right? Like, we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Plus, the door always stays open for a third Amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos is part of the Michael Duda Podcast Network, available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Daniel Jeremiah. And I'm Greg Rosenthal. And this is 40s and free agents. The games may be over, but the NFL never stopped.
Starting point is 00:37:06 This is my favorite part of the calendar. Yeah, mine too, Greg, free agency, the combine, the NFL draft, Pro Days, trades. This is where teams reshape their future. This is where Daniel Jeremiah makes his money. On 40s and free agents, we break down every move that actually matters. From my draft evaluations, mock drafts, and team fits, to my top 101 free agents and how real rosters are built, cap space, contracts, and all the tough decisions included.
Starting point is 00:37:33 You got quarterbacks on the move. We got teams rebuilding. It's hope season. Yeah, absolutely. It's hope season. We'll tell you what's real, what's noise, and what it means for your favorite team. Smart analysis, real conversations every week. I don't know about the smart, but definitely analysis.
Starting point is 00:37:49 Listen to 40s and free agents on the I-Hourdes and Free Agents on the I-Hour. Heart, Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Somebody said to chat, because I said, Pete Maravich, he was shooting the ball 38, 39 times, and somebody said, that's a lie. If y'all go look it up, Pete Maravich as a sophomore, shot the ball 39.3 type field goal attempts a game. His sophomore year, that was his French sophomore year,
Starting point is 00:38:35 because freshmen couldn't play back there in Ocho. And then he shot the ball 37 and a half times per game. And then he shot the ball, his last year, he shot the ball 37.7 times the game. He made 16 of those field goals. So he shot 42%, 44%, 44%, 44%. See, y'all jump in the chat, and y'all just say anything. Do y'all realize that when I come here, I come prepared? Now, I had no idea that we were going to talk about Pete Maravich,
Starting point is 00:39:02 but I've read enough just in case I'm smart-ass think they can throw some stuff out there that can stunt me. You can't. You can't stump the swab. You can't. Now go look it up. Now I said he shot the ball 38, 39 times. Did I not tell you that? You said that.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Now, I'm just going back from stuff from years ago reading about this. Because I'm like, how in the hell is this man scoring averageing 40-something points a game? How many times did he shoot the ball? Granted, that is a guard, you're not shooting no high percent. Considering most guards, you take a lot of, of shots. A lot of shots. Some of those shots are for distance. Noddy man. Now you're, I'm just saying. Now you jump no hit. Now jump back put something else in the chat. I don't know. Oh cho. I just, what it is? Hey. I don't I don't I do some not all.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Yeah. Most part most of my chat but what what is it about some people to jump in the chat don't want to try to prove. They're trying to they trying to try to question your basketball acumen, You know, your basketball knowledge. I mean, when it comes to that, even though you play football, I'm not sure at this point why they even question that. That would be like them questioning my football knowledge or, hell, even questioning my soccer knowledge, because the funny thing about it is, which is kind of weird, is I can talk soccer, the history of the game,
Starting point is 00:40:35 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and currently better than I can't, better than I can't football, which is weird. But I'm saying But the thing is, Ocho, Cho, to be good To get, because I've always, I've always liked sports. But I, and I think the thing is because when I went and did, when I first did first take,
Starting point is 00:40:58 the first time I went on first take, I didn't have a producer. I didn't have nobody. I didn't have nobody give me information. I just went up there and whatever skill wanted to talk about, we talked about. And I'm just putting stuff off my head. And he's looking at me.
Starting point is 00:41:11 He's like, and the producers looking at me like, and then I come back again. They're like, well, you guys, like, I'm good. They're like, what do you want to talk about? I say whatever you want to talk about. I do. I want to talk about, but then I understood. So to read, but y'all got, I'm almost 58.
Starting point is 00:41:35 A lot of the stuff that I be talking about, I watched. I saw it. I read about it. I read when it used to be with sports. I mean, I read and was consumed with it. because I wanted to do something in this field. Yes. Yes, I might mispronounce this or get a year off.
Starting point is 00:41:56 You know, might as a like I think Flaccoe, 2008, 2009. So let's go with 2009. Okay, I was off a year. But I have a pretty good idea. Because I think it's my job. And I know somebody you're talking about, oh, you got reached. I said, first of all,
Starting point is 00:42:10 a lot of stuff that I'm throwing that I'm, that I don't know what we're going to talk about. And I don't know if it's going to come up. So we might be talking about something. But I don't know if Ocho's like, what was you're like, what were you in with that? I don't know what you're going to ask me. I don't know what the chat's going to ask me. But I have to have a pretty good understanding like basketball.
Starting point is 00:42:31 When I was telling, I was like, Joe, the really first buzzerbee that I remember in March Madness was US Reed hit a shot. I think it was like 81 against Louisville. Ash looked it up and I can always tell with Ash drop a head. but I'm just saying I'm just like look guys I mean I'm just trying to give you the the best information I possibly can and I'm just saying and I'm not trying to diminish what Pistol Pete did he did that but I'm saying he shot the ball 39 times a game that's crazy he he was he was good though huh he was good even though he had oh yeah
Starting point is 00:43:11 yes he was ahead of his time because he was flashing. The way he'd be dribbled the ball and do all that stuff right here. And then, you know, do all that stuff. And he was one of the first one behind the back passes. And then he'd cuff it like he's going behind the back. And then he laid up.
Starting point is 00:43:28 He was shooting from distance and they didn't have the three point line. So it would have been interesting to see how many points he would have actually averaged had the three point line. Okay. Because he shot from, that's why he didn't shoot such a high percentage.
Starting point is 00:43:40 He shot a bunch, but he was shooting from distance. Uh, hometowny. Yo, uh, so now the two lovely foreign ladies, when you talk about Houston, are you admitting Houston Miami? Because when I was in Miami, I was like, oh, food me, yams, oxtail, mac and cheese is crazy. So he's asking, are you saying Houston and Miami or the equivalent? No, no, no. I think when you, when you come here, to Miami.
Starting point is 00:44:17 You hear me? They got a smorgasbord. You're talking about smorgasbord. Yeah, it's a buffet, huh? You hear me? Yeah. So you're talking about they got Dominicans, they got Puerto Ricans,
Starting point is 00:44:27 they got Cubans, they got Colombians, they got Americans, they got Russians, it doesn't matter what you want. It's a United Nations of women. Every ethnicity you can think of is here. It's a melting pot for that.
Starting point is 00:44:40 When you go to Houston, Unk is us. It's a lot of us. It's fubu for us, buy us. And man, listen. I don't know what God. I still don't understand how people can live in Houston. For those that do live there, I'm not sure how you have the discipline to do so over time.
Starting point is 00:45:01 But man, it's a sight to see, y'all. It's a sight to see. J.J. Carvaso, petition to get Ash and team are raised when the channel hits two million subs. And another raise when the channel hit 1 billion views Let's get it Show wouldn't be the same
Starting point is 00:45:22 Without them either Absolutely I think all the You know Oh no No they're good They good Hey
Starting point is 00:45:32 Well hey When we hit two of me And so let's give The graphic team I don't know Who should do I'm in public They don't even talk
Starting point is 00:45:40 About the show No more They're asking Who do the goddamn graphics Who Hey boy that was funny man I sat I sat next to somebody on the got there playing boy 20 minutes was a conversation on the graphics and they showed me all the different ones we've used so far oh yeah they you know look teamwork hard so you know when we can get a day or two here or there we definitely try to let them let them get a chance to decompress you know now we Wednesday and we're going all the way to next Monday so you know you know Well, they do work hard.
Starting point is 00:46:22 They work incredibly hard, and I'm definitely proud of the team that we put together here. So hopefully we can continue to work. Barry Gang, the reason so many people have an issue with BAMs 83 is because it's about as impressive as the 2024 All-Star Game to 1-211 to 186. It was so exciting that they changed the format. I get it.
Starting point is 00:46:47 but let me ask you a question. How many other people other than BAM have ever scored 80 points in the ballgame? Wilk got 100, and I think it was 62, and Kobe in 2005. Well, it was January, 06, maybe the 22nd. What day that was Kobe scored them 801 point? I think it was January 22nd of 2006.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Because it was the same day, the Broncos lost to the Steelers in the AFC championship game. Oh, I'm sorry, as you ain't got a shake. You see I asked Duby-Ocho? She didn't come out of the January 22nd to the time. Damn.
Starting point is 00:47:35 But I just remember because the Broncos had played, had played the Steelers and they lost in the championship game on their home field. Ben was a second year quarterback. It's still, I don't know. I don't know. I mean, other guys have tried to feed the ball, you know, like T-Mack brought up a David Robinson scoring 71 and 94 against the Clippers.
Starting point is 00:48:02 They forced Fitting the ball because they wanted him to get the record. No, they wanted him to win the scoring title. Oh, B. Shaq out. He beat Shaq out for the scoring title. That happens, guys. It's okay. If you look at BAMs 83 and if it takes any luster, off at Kobe's 81.
Starting point is 00:48:23 I don't know to tell you. It doesn't. I don't think any... I was like, well, Kobe's 81. That ain't impressive. Not hell. Where you go? Oh, the check can still hit me?
Starting point is 00:48:51 Oh, a chat. Unka's working on some technical difficulties. But... Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, chat. See, Unk's computer died. So he's going through some technical difficulties right now.
Starting point is 00:49:04 So we're going to get him hooked back up. But in the meantime, I'm going to... I'm going to carry on. And boom, we talk about BAMs, 83 points. Obviously, obviously, you know, my basketball knowledge is nowhere near that of that amongst. But being that only two other people have done it before, obviously, no matter how it was done, history was made.
Starting point is 00:49:23 Some people are not going to sit well with, obviously. And hell, it's a feat. It's a feat. He made history. It is what it is. It doesn't take anything away from what Kobe did. And the way Kobe got here, it doesn't take anything away from Wilk and the way he got his, even though there's been no footage of Will actually doing it. But I guess people don't
Starting point is 00:49:42 don't see fit the way Bam scored is his 83. But history's already been made. And nothing we can do about it. Unk, you can see me. Unk, I can see you. Chat, we got, we got, we got, we got, we got, we got Joy in there trying to get Ung together over there. I would have a joke, but I didn't prepare one for the night. I got you now. That's a Jordan. I don't even come in this room. Jordan come in the room cut everything on.
Starting point is 00:50:29 And the computer died. That's all Jordan. Yep. I'm telling you good. Nope, I ain't good. That's Jordan. Ain't no technical. I ain't taking no blame for that.
Starting point is 00:50:41 You did that. You told me take the blame. Nope. I just called it. He was driving. I call it technical difficulties. It wasn't, hey, hold on. Hey, hold on.
Starting point is 00:50:51 My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my light died in the middle of the show earlier. Yeah. I say, well, damn. They just went, this went black. They were, damn. But look, I, I'm a firm believer, Ojo is that somebody's accompaniment doesn't dim somebody else's accomplishment. Doesn't. If I win an award, somebody else went to them.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Okay. I'm happy for you. It don't take no shine off my one. You got shorts? I don't matter how you got it either. You got it. Show don't. Real sports talk.
Starting point is 00:51:34 What do you guys think about Dan Olofsky? saying Simpson over Mendoza. That's his big. Man, Dan, I thought he was playing. I thought he played well. I thought he kind of regress towards the end of the year, Ocho, where he didn't play well. But we'll see.
Starting point is 00:51:53 That's the thing about it. I don't see. I don't know what Dan is looking at, man. I love Dan. Dan, I love his takes, I love his knowledge about the position, and obviously you don't need to be Tom Brady to be able to talk about the game when you watch film and you
Starting point is 00:52:06 excel very well at watching film and watching players and being able to make an assessment on what you think they're going to be at the next level. But to even say Ty Simpson is better than Mendoza, based on the sample side that we've seen from Mendoza in his senior season at Indiana is ridiculous. That's
Starting point is 00:52:22 a horrible take. That's a horrible take. Like, come on, Dan. And you, you, come on now. I understand you might like the kid. I understand you might like, you might want to, you know, pump him up for whatever reason, being that your voice and your platform might hold some type of weight when to come to the draft process. But he's, he's not Mendoza. And if he was anything like that, I think the Alabama Crimson Tide would have looked a little better in certain games
Starting point is 00:52:51 where he should have been able to take over and elevate that team when things weren't going well. And he didn't. I can't say that I disagree, Ocho. Big Daddy, Trey. What's good nightcap? Newest member, a long-time fan. Is your cognac available in Kentucky yet? Not to my knowledge.
