Listen to San Diego FC behind the flow on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Quarterback competition for Cleveland Browns will soon come to an end. Coach Kevin Stefansky said today that the team will name a starter this week. According to the Cleveland.com, the decision could come as soon as Monday.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Stapansky said we will name its starter. It's going to come this week. we still anticipate all of our players, whether you're a starter or not, to prepare, like you, the starter, knowing all of our players in that room, that's exactly what they'll do. Hey, we don't care about who's going to be the starter. We know who the starter's going to be.
Starting point is 00:02:45 We know who's starting. Joe Flacko, the starter. He's not there for one year to be sitting on the bench and get beat out by a rookie. That's not happening. Either he's starting or you're going to release it. Right, one of the other. there's no there's no listen the starter in joe flacco the more important part who's the number two
Starting point is 00:03:02 who's strong enough in the preseason to be number two and then the next question are you keeping four goddamn quarterbacks probably not again i love all of them i love what shedore showed i love what dylan gabriel showed despite the mistakes despite the pick six and the fumble so who's the odd man out because the odd man out is the person that we've already seen on two other teams we saw your small samaside with the Steelers okay and we saw you were back up with the with the Eagles so obviously
Starting point is 00:03:35 you're not the answer no disrespect no disrespect you'll find a home regardless but I'm telling you I don't know Kevin Stefanski personally where I could pick up the phone to call them but I know that's how it's going to play out it is and I know Mr. Haslam
Starting point is 00:03:52 listen I know you didn't want him I know what you'll pick but Andrew Barry I'm telling you when this is over when this is over and the dust settles you're going to look like a genius
Starting point is 00:04:03 I'm telling you you got the quarterback of the future well well I hope so because some of the hired some of the coaches
Starting point is 00:04:18 he's hired he didn't look like no genius but if he gets this quarterback situation right all to be forgiven and all it takes And that's for the other 32 teams.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Well, excuse me. It's not 32 teams I didn't die or need of a quarterback, but I'm just saying, you know what I mean. I don't know if I've ever seen the situation quite like what's going on to Cleveland. Because the guy that you brought, the two guys, the two veteran guys that you brought in have yet to play. Now, maybe it was a situation. And I think this, I think because Joe Flacco didn't play,
Starting point is 00:04:50 maybe they're like, okay, look, we already know what you can do. We don't need to see you. season. No, no. Shelf you. You know what I'm saying? Ocho, we're going to shelf you. The other, the other three, they were anticipating Kenny Pickett being able to play. So we can get a better, we can get a look
Starting point is 00:05:07 at him. But since he's been unable to play, basically it's been Gabriel and Shuner. So I don't know how you can name anybody else other than the starter, I mean, other than Flacco. How you name a guy that hadn't taken a snap since, what, August
Starting point is 00:05:23 3rd, August 4th? excuse me, and name him the starter. Damn. Well, here. Stranger things have happened, but I don't, I don't know what Joe. Since we're on the topic of the quarterbacks, we talk about the Cleveland Browns and what they're going to do and who's going to be at the hand in week one.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Obviously, we can know if it's going to be Joe Flacko. Well, hell, what the Rams going to do? They only got two weeks and got damn Stafford and ain't took a snap. Stets and Bennett look good, though. They like Stephon Bennett. They do. They do. They do.
Starting point is 00:05:58 They like Stetson vint. And all he did, all he did was just go to Georgia as a walk on, back up, and just become the greatest, the greatest Georgia quarterback. When it comes to Georgia players right now, Rojo, is Herschel Walker and Stetson Bennett. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Of all the great players that have come out of Georgia, offensively and defensively.
Starting point is 00:06:23 It's Herschel Walker and it's, because, you see, they love, first of all, Big Dog was a phenomenal player, top dog with a big buddy won the national championship as a freshman. Stetson Bennett went back to back as a walk on. Do you, everybody love an underdog, Ocho. You say your favorite sports movie is Rudy. Now, why do you like Rudy so much? Oh, yeah. He's Rudy.
Starting point is 00:06:51 That was dope. Matter of fact, hey, you know what? I was Rudy today. Nah, you were Rudy poop. I was Rudy today. But they like Stets and Bennett. The Rams like Stets and Bennett. I would be concerned that back,
Starting point is 00:07:14 you know, backs ain't, I don't know if you ever had anything with your back, but backs ain't nothing to play with it. And it got to be, you got to be serious too long. Yeah, hell, he ain't. Did he, at any point in training camp, has Stafford taken a snap? Did he practice at all?
Starting point is 00:07:30 I think he, like, early, but then he just woke up and something was wrong with his back. Okay, okay. But he ain't, I mean, it's been about two, three weeks. I mean, they only been, they've only been in camp to. Yeah, okay, okay, okay, okay. He did, he did OTAs and all that, though. He did OTA.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so this must. Look. We know Stafford can flat up, he can throw the football. And I think he gives them the best chance. But I do, but I think Sean McVeigh, they're high on Stinson Bennett. He's not the biggest, doesn't have the biggest arm. He's athletic.
Starting point is 00:08:10 He does, he can make plays. And, you know, you probably have to coach him up kind of like you did golf. But, uh. the funny thing about it is for him again we have a quarterback like that that's a rookie maybe he has to start week one you know but you feel a little better as a quarterback you second year you guys you're saying you feel a little you feel a little better about if massed african go because he's been in your sister you got kairn williams you got puke and kore yep you got d'alli avonte you got my young bull from miami mm-hmm they're gonna be all right
Starting point is 00:08:51 yeah they're gonna be all right god damn two to at well baby mm-hmm um yeah but i'm hey look um i'm we're gonna be we we have a lot to talk about tomorrow because what's they named the starter i'm i'm trying to see the depth chart damn the starter i don't think he i think we'll both agree neither one of the rookies will be named starter so now i'm just looking for the depth chart i'm just going to see okay well who lines up at two, three, four. Well, listen, knowing Szafansky and Szafansky having the answer to the boss man whose name is
Starting point is 00:09:26 on the check, I can tell you how that's going to look. Flacco, Gabriel Sanders. Well, if that's the case, you might as well go ahead and release Kidney Pickett to give him a chance to go pick up somewhere else. Yeah. Oh, he's going to get his job regardless. He going to get his job regardless. We asked our IG chat this morning if they felt Dillon and
Starting point is 00:09:49 Gabriel comments were a shot at Shadour. 85% felt yes. 85, 15, over 11,000 people responded, though, Joe, felt that he took a shot at a, at Shadour. Hey, Unk, I listened to, I listened to the question
Starting point is 00:10:05 for better context and what it was saying. And I, I kind of, I'm on the other side of the fence. If you listen to the question that was asked and the way he answered it, Yeah. I'm trying to understand.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Maybe you can help me understand how you guys still feel the shot was at your door when it was a specific question. So what did it ask him? I don't remember exactly off the top of the head. But I'm just saying, maybe ask him, show it to you real quick. Show the question that was asked to get a better understanding of the context on what he answered. Hey, chat. Y'all ever, if anybody in the chat smoke cigars, you got to try to Jaime Garcia, you hear me?
Starting point is 00:11:07 Jaime Garcia, 60 gays. You got it? They ask him his comfortability in front of a camera. Okay. Some guys are entertainers, they're real comfortable in front of a camera. That's what I would deduce. If you, if I ask you, Ocho, why are you so comfortable in front of a camera? Wait, stay right there.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Stay right there. I'm an entertainer. No, act, well, see, when you talk about me, I'm a theater and drama major. That's why I'm so good in front of camera. But okay. You're an entertainer. Yeah. So, so ain't nobody, ain't nobody asking you.
Starting point is 00:11:49 that so no so if if they're talking about if he says somebody's the entertainer why we should do so in other words should do is uncomfortable in front of the camera why ocho well i mean he's had one in front of him all his life they didn't they didn't ask him anything all they're asking why are you so comfortable i'm uncomfortable look i've been a quarterback for an extended period of time uh this is what i've been playing the quarterback position i understand what comes along with the quarterback position. I'm the CEO of the corporation. Ooh, that's a good one.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Ain't nobody ask you. Ain't nobody, ain't nobody asked you about no entertainment. Hey, a matter of fact, you know what I'm thinking about too, Unk? You know, I mean, there are many ways to think about it, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:34 and people having opinions on how he said and who we're taking a shot at. But when everything is in your favor, especially in the situation you're in, debt chart-wise, position wise the owner wants you then i also think about well what the fuck am i taking a shot for when i'm getting the grace from the people that matter i don't know i just listen i factor in all
Starting point is 00:13:00 the different things that's why i factored all the different things uh outside of just oh with the shot at him well hell the owner's on my side i'm starting this game i mean what the fuck am i shooting for what would be the point there would be no need to because i'm i'm so let me ask you question who go who goes to camp not ready to compete i'm which a listen so he so so in other words he's a competitor i'm here to compete who in training camp isn't a competitor you don't get to this level without competing and when you go to training camp unless you're the unless you're and that's just the way your makeup is everybody competes Even Patrick Mahomes competing against himself.
Starting point is 00:13:46 So him saying that, oh, on speaking to CBS reporter, Gabriel was asked about his comfortability in front of a camera. There are entertainers and they are competitors. And I totally understand that. My job is to compete and that's what I'm going to do. CBS reporter asked Gabriel about his comfortability in front of the camera. There are entertainers and they are competitors.
Starting point is 00:14:24 And I totally understand that. My job is to compete and that's what I'm going to do. Now again, I like that. Ain't asking him nothing by no entertainment. Well, hold on. He said, he said, there are entertainers. Hold on the way, me, did you, listen to me? Entertainers, right?
Starting point is 00:14:46 Yes. What do entertainers always have in front of them that are always comfortable in front of cameras? What are actors? Yeah, entertainers, right? You make my point, because your doers always had what in front of it. So, but you say they take a shot at you? No, see, see, see?
Starting point is 00:15:04 You said I get into it? You see, I walked it right into that chat. I walked it right into it. Like, walked it right into it. Y'all, y'all, y'all killing me. You said, you said, should do it as good at this because he's had a camera in front of him his whole life. So what?
Starting point is 00:15:23 So if he didn't take a shot, so who was he talking about? People that are always in front of the camera. That's why they're so comfortable for entertainers. Who on his team had a camera in front of his life, his whole life? Oh, but hey, I don't like how y'all do that, boy. But, hey, Chad, you see, I got it. Hey, Chad, did I tie him up right quick?
Starting point is 00:15:47 A young innocent kid just answering the question and y'all just running with it, that's probably ain't what he meant, man. All right, leave, boy, y'all, but y'all. I don't know what he meant. I don't know what he meant. All I know what he said. Say what you mean, mean what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:16:00 All he had, all, hey, being a quarterback playing at the University of Oregon. You can't tell him. You can't tell him, man, how to answer a question. You can't do that. He answered the question the way he felt, and I just, I feel me being a player that is also played, understanding the quarterback position,
Starting point is 00:16:20 I don't think he was taking a shot at the person on his team that he's competing with. That's all. Who asked him about entertainers? That's the way he wanted to answer the question. Exactly. You think in the middle of a game, he's thinking about, how should I answer this?
Starting point is 00:16:36 You know what? This is a great time to take a shot at your door. Huh? No. That's why you got to be careful. Because if you're not careful, if it'd come up, it'll come out. You don't think they're, you don't think the, he thinks that, no problem. That's your opinion. You don't believe he take a shot. Me and a lot of other people believe that he did take a shot.
Starting point is 00:17:00 I'm not here to try to change your mind. I'm just saying. I'm just saying, I just think it's being a little, being blown a little out of proportion. And I don't think it's what he meant. What he needs to do is be better be careful with his words and the way he words things. Why you got to be careful? You say you want people to be truthful.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Now you want to be careful. He was truthful, but I just think the meaning of what he's saying is being misconstrued. That's all. And that's a big word for me, misconstrued. That's a big word right now. Yeah. Mm-hmm. But like I say,
Starting point is 00:17:36 I just, uh, we, uh, we look at it different because I don't think he, I think the thing is that, you know, especially that's why quarterbacks are so scripted, because they know anything they say is going to be how, it's going to be misconstrued, the big word that you use. That's why you always get, Tom is telling you now, Tom, like, oh, that guy's the greatest guy ever. He's like, oh, we're going to him all day. Now he said what he said to the public. Now he's telling what he actually fought. That's why quarterbacks, that's why, you know, you don't really get anything for the quarterback
Starting point is 00:18:10 because they know the slightest twist or, you know, how it will be perceived. Right, right, right, right. Right. That's why they're normally ultra-scripting. Listen, I like it. I like it. You, listen, things from two different lenses. You got two eyes. I only got one.
Starting point is 00:18:32 So maybe that's why I can't see what you see. Hey guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. You may know me as an NCAA national champion and recent most outstanding player. You may even know me as a people's princess. But now, you're also going to know me as your favorite host. I'm Jake Hofer, and this is Back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat Eat Eater's Podcast Network. Each episode, I'll be asking eight white-tail hunting pros, a focused, thought-provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access?
Starting point is 00:20:58 Should you, that's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer
Starting point is 00:21:27 because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier. And we watched Ottawa against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC behind the flow. Now on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The commanders have been looking to trade running back, Brian Robinson Jr. Hey, come on, man. Jordan Shorts.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Jordan Shultz. Right now, he's listed as RB1 on the depth chart, Austin Eccler, number two, and Jeremy McNichols, number three. wait a minute um go ahead you don't want to pay terry mclaran you want to trade running back number one i'm assuming someone else must have really really impressed in the preseason at the running back position but at the evening well you ain't got nobody but austin eccler and jeremy jeremy mnickles so you know what you get with austin eclay he's more of a runner he's more of a receiver than a runner
Starting point is 00:22:59 he went to the pro bowl third down back third down back uh you're not a I haven't seen McNichols, but I'll take a look at it tomorrow. And then I'll be able to give you, I'll be able to give you a clear picture. It's like, okay, I understand. What are we doing? I don't know what we're doing over there in Washington. To have a season like you had last year, right? To have a season like you had last year, what would you want to do?
Starting point is 00:23:25 I want to make sure we do everything possible from a business standpoint, especially when it comes to my number one receiver, that my quarterback relied on that made a lot of plays for us last year in the regular season and in the playoffs in making sure he's signed and happy. Now, two weeks before the season start,
Starting point is 00:23:48 we want to get rid of quarterback, excuse me, we want to get rid of running back number one. The running back, yeah. What are we doing? Hey, somebody must have looked really good. I mean, when you trade your starter from last year, you really trade your starter? uh somebody must have really looked good oh jose i i ain't heard about it and i don't watch every
Starting point is 00:24:10 preseason the game so far well like i said we'll watch it tomorrow and we'll bet we'll be able to see like okay now i can see why they're looking to move on from brian robinson junior but it's not like he's making a ton of money he was the low round draft pick wasn't he They're going to be all right, though. Regardless of where they go, the quarterback's... He's from Alabama, right? The quarterback situation in Washington is so good. Third round, okay.
Starting point is 00:24:45 It's so good. Jaden Daniels is so good. Even without the running back, they're still going to be okay. Oh, yeah. They're still going to be okay. But if they don't get scary Terry done, I mean, what... What are we doing?
Starting point is 00:25:03 We're going completely backwards. We're going to be back. I just don't see how he gets north of D.K. I think, and you and I agreed, I think he's in the $28, $30 million range, and that's not what he was here. I said 30. 30 year, you know, come on, man.
Starting point is 00:25:22 I don't know. Abdul Carter did not like the NFL posted a clip. close to the clip of the chip lot the Jets, T.E. Stone Smart put on it. Might be the only highlight of the Jets all season. And we put BTA, you know what, ate that like Mofo chicken. I don't know if you ate it like chicken, Abdul. But when you're a great pass rush, you're going to get that. That's what they're going to do to you.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Matter of fact, if he wasn't, if he wasn't, if he wasn't who he was, you know what he wouldn't be getting chipped it's the preseason why are we chipping on the way out in the preseason because you him you him so the NFL is posting it for a reason they posting for a reason
Starting point is 00:26:13 because you are him if it was anybody else they wouldn't be posting it oh no one that good well he a rookie first of all high round draft pick the second pick of the third what is the third pick of the second no
Starting point is 00:26:28 Third, third, third. It was Cam, Travis, and then. Travis, because Jacksonville traded up with Cleveland to get. But that's what you're going to happen. And as you get better, you'll be able to feel it. Oh, yeah, you'll know, you don't. Hell, the type of right. And then, and when you see that guy there, you unload on him before he
Starting point is 00:26:49 unloads on you. But it's all a part of the game, we'll do. You weren't a great player. They wouldn't even chip you. Hey, tackle, go ahead, hell, let. The Panthers signed UFL MVP Bryce Perkins after Andy Dalton elbow injury. Perkins threw 28 through 1342 yards, nine touchdowns with 269 rush yards and five touchdowns for the Michigan Panthers this season. Perkins spent time on the Rams during the 20 through 22 seasons appearing in five games with one start.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Uh-oh, Ocho. What's that? Uh, you okay? Andy don't, the elbow. Yeah, yeah. I'm okay. I'm okay. And Andy be back.
Starting point is 00:27:39 You know, Bryce coming in. I mean, we know who the starting quarterback is. We know who the starting quarterback is. You know, whoever the number two is, I mean, that's cool. That's cool. But number one, take your ass to bed. Bryce Young. Just get that thing to Jalen Coker, get that thing to Brother Winfro, get that thing to T-Mack, get it to Xavier Leggett, get it to Adam Thielen, we're going to be all right.
Starting point is 00:28:09 We got Chubbard, Chubbard, Hubbard, did I say? Chuba Hubbard. Huber, Hubbard. Chuba, Chuba. Yeah, I like that. They're going to be right. Taddy, Panthers. Panthers playoff, boy, I say it at first.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Keep pounding. Ocho, top five cornerbacks in the NFL since 2000. Derell Revis 1, Shirm 2, champ 3, Gilmore, 4, Jalen Ramsey, 5. I like it. What would you change? Would you leave it the same? I wouldn't change the goddamn thing. I would put champ.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Yeah, well, okay. Oh, you mean numerically? Oh, yeah, numerically, yeah, yeah. I put champ in two. Yeah, I like it how it is. I like how to it is, hey, people, I don't, I don't think people understand how good Stefan Gilmore was. I don't think he wants to be defensive player in the year. I mean, you got, I mean, for, when a DB gives defensive player the year?
Starting point is 00:29:11 That. There ain't been a whole lot of them now. And Jalen Ramsey even still to the day, another thing about Jalen Ramsey that I don't like is when we talk about the better corners, better man-to-man corners than NFL, we're not mentioning Jailen Ramsey's name enough. We're not. Still very good. Still very good in one-on-one situations with a plan off, with a plan up in man-to-man. And some people say, oh, well, he, this guy beat him. Everybody gets beat.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Nobody has a high percentage of times that he wins his match-ups. A high percentage. And everybody that's on that list, chat, listen to me real quick. Everybody on that list, 95% of DBs in NFL games, they play not to get beat. and there's a short percentage of maybe 5% that play to make a play. There's a huge difference.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Yeah. There's a huge difference. They're playing to make a play, not just playing, not to get beat. I'm going to run the scheme. I'm going to keep the guy in front of me. And if catches the ball, I make the tackle. No, these individuals,
Starting point is 00:30:14 they're trying to make a play. And all of them are very good tacklers. Very good tackle. I think Champ went to like 10 or 11 Pro Bowls. He was four or five times first team all pro. Led the league in picks one year. Gilly, Stefan Gilmore was a defensive player of the year. He had a great season.
Starting point is 00:30:43 That season, 2009, with that 2009 season when Revis had an unbelievable season, but Charles Woodson won the defensive player of the year. Ramsey's just been good everywhere he's been. It's just surprising to me that how good he's been that he's been moved this many times. That's what's surprising to be. So Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:31:05 You know, from Jacksonville to the Rams to the Dolphins, Dolphins and Steelers, Ramsey's been good everywhere he's been. He ain't no slouch. No, no, no. Can play multiple positions. I can see him move with playing safety. like you saw Charles Wilson and Rod Wilson later in their career moved to the safety position and Anius Williams and time.
Starting point is 00:31:31 I mean, they're going to be able to do a multitude of things with Ramsey in Pittsburgh. So that's going to be really interesting the way they use him. Obviously, Brother Joy Porter, Jr. is going to be on one side, and I'm not sure where Slay is going to be. And maybe when that team go to three receivers sets or four or five receivers, I'm, you know, telling how that's going to work out or what they're going to do. But it's going to be, they're going to have very many, very many options.
Starting point is 00:31:56 And with that, that front four, that front four that they have, that ball got to come out, huh? Are we saying Cam Hayward's going to be there or not be there? Shoot, I forgot about that. God damn it. God damn it. Is he really going to stand on business too, hung, do you think? He seems like a distinguished gentleman.
Starting point is 00:32:23 damn but they just paid you last year i mean how many times you ever seen a team okay you know he said if i had if i'd have had two sacks you ought to cut me this year too even though you just paid me last year yeah yeah i mean like you do me sometimes or oh cho i just give you the other side i got you i got you but let me ask you a question have you ever seen a team pay a player one season and a player played that well and they come right back and do a deal again? No, I have not. There you go. And it's not
Starting point is 00:33:00 going to set the president. I guess it's the first time for everything. He said, I've seen I've seen you, I've seen teams pay a player and cut him the next season. That's a good one. So we'll see. But I think
Starting point is 00:33:18 the only thing I think, and I think Sherman is phenomenal. I do bump him down just a tad because their defense didn't allow it for them to travel they stayed on one side everybody else everybody else in this picture travel hey you know and i think it's something to be sad for that i mean i mean think about if you played if you played in the 80s and you follow jerry sterling sharp chris carter herman moore Andre rising you know what i'm saying i mean just think about you a corner and that was your assignment might be with you that's all like You know, Michael Irwin, Anthony Miller, you, you, you, you travel.
Starting point is 00:33:56 For me, it's something to be said for a guy that'll travel that you're willing to pick up frequent fly miles. But Sherm, shirm phenomenal. And, you know, and that's why he's an all-decade player in the 2010. And rightfully so, because he was, he was that good. He was a quarter of the legion of board. And another thing, when we talk about, when we talk about those, those five, corners. I want to talk about some corners that aren't listed in there that I think are deserving to be on that list as well. I got two. I got two that deserves me on that top five.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Asante Samuels and Patrick Peterson. Yep. Yep. Yep. I agree. Oh, you know what? I'm surprised Pat Pee on there. Yeah. I'm not sure who made that list. But the funny thing about it is they were so good doing their time. I'm talking about Prime. Prime Patrick Peterson? Man, shh. Man, stop playing. Prime Asante, even though he didn't travel, but that's not what was asked of him. That wasn't, that's why, like I said,
Starting point is 00:35:01 Shurn played the defense, and he played it extremely well. Yeah. He played it extremely well. But for me, when you got to, when you got to, you got to take Brandon Marshall and take Ocho and take Cal and take Megatron and take Tio and take Julio. I, bro, I got, I got to get, I got to get you credit. Do you understand the kind of bag?
Starting point is 00:35:26 You understand a kind of toolbox you have to have as a DB to play against each one in receivers you just named, knowing that you got to approach each situation differently. You got to, your style of play has to be different based on who is, man, that is why I say, and people will laugh at me, I say defense of the back is the hardest position to play, especially if you are a traveling corner that has to have a, man, listen you got to be on you you think it's hard you think you think it's harder maybe maybe physically but not meant yes they quarterback yes it's a mental game oh hold on time out oh this is the great conversation name the court Patrick i'm patrick peterson
Starting point is 00:36:12 one week say the receivers again i got when we got got who okay you're going to it's Julio. Julio Jones. Fast, good and bump and run. Can run routes like no other. I got to travel with him for four quarters. Yep. My toolbox, my technique has to be perfect.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Mentally, in itself, that in itself, it's just like playing the quarterback position because you got to be on point. One mistake, one error. You done. That's six points. Look, I'm not saying it's not easy, but as the quarterback, I got to know, okay, this, this defensive front, let me, instead of Liz, let me rip this. I need to know X, Y, Z, running back, that mental, that, there's a reason why, there's a reason why the quarterback playbook is this thing, and defensive backs playbook is this. But listen, even if the defense's the back playbook is this small, right,
Starting point is 00:37:24 understanding what he has to go through, understanding what he has to go through every down. Think about all the coverages, Ocho. I got to think about down in distance. I got to think about position on the field. I got to think about personnel. Are they in sub? Are they in spinner?
Starting point is 00:37:41 Are they in three-down scan? Quarter, cover four, cover six, cover five. They clouding it. They banjoin it. also i got to know all of that and i got to know okay who nickel dine son no they in junk they in six two no they in a five right right right right no i i no sir listen one week i'm traveling one week i got t o next week i got calvin johnson got damn next week the next week i got randy moss and that man man please and i'm and i'm and i'm
Starting point is 00:38:16 And I'm traveling? One week you got one week, you got the Steelers defense with that three or four. The next week you got the Eagles defense with a 43. And the next week, and then the next week you got the Ravens. And then the next week you got the Buccaneers. And then the next week you got Seattle. And the next week you got the Jets. And the next week you got the Broncos.
Starting point is 00:38:40 And then you got Bill Belichick. And then you got Rex Ryan. Then you got Wade Phillips. No. Physically, Corner is the toughest position because you're asking somebody is like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.
Starting point is 00:38:57 She had to do everything that Fred Astaire did, but you had to do it backwards and you had to do it appeals. Yeah. So I have to do everything that Julio is going to do, but unfortunately I got to do it backwards. But not only must I know where, not only must I know where that DB is,
Starting point is 00:39:12 I better find out where T.J. Watt and Michael Parsons are too. And you know why I'm at it? What the hell is Rokane Smith going do? What is Ray Lewis going to do? Him and old Erlack. Are they up to something no good? I know it. And I need to worry about Warren Sapp and Johnny Ramble hit me in the back of my damn head. What if I'm going to do by Reggie White and Bruce and Brucey? Uh-uh. Nah. You know, you keep saying it's a physical game for the DBs. That's a mental game. That's a mental game. Well, it's a mental game. Because now you got your job playing against some of the
Starting point is 00:39:51 greats week in and week out is I need to make sure I keep him thinking the whole time. I need to make sure I keep him thinking the whole time. Whether it's lining up, what it's lining up right in front of him, shading inside, maybe shading outside, continue to give him different looks. How can I throw the time into this offense off to be able to give me an advantage as deep as the back to slow him down? How can I mess up the time of their all? offense. I mean, it's so much that goes into it outside of just a physical aspect. It's a chess match up here. But you know what, Ocho? Let's just say for the sake of argument, they're going to bombard it. They're going to throw in 15 passes. They're going to give
Starting point is 00:40:31 15 targets. How many times you think I'm going to throw the ball? And every time, I've got to be perfect. Because if I'm laid on the out walk, if I'm laid on the out ball, tell the chat what's going to happen. other way if a hey what happens if i if i missed the heart anthony richardson what happens when you missed the heart if you don't if you don't redirect the line the line was going to the left and you said okay and you didn't rip it and send it right that's what you should have done you should have ripped it so that way you slide the line to the right now you since you look into the left anybody comes off that side you throw hot
Starting point is 00:41:13 Mentally nothing like the quarterback. It's the hard, the hardest, the hardest thing to do, I believe in professional sports is here to baseball. The hardest position to play is quarterback. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:27 That's why, that's why you can get, that's why you can get guys that's third or fourth rounders and take off. That quarterback position, man. Hey, how many, how many times are teams, them go two, three, four.
Starting point is 00:41:46 You just told me the Cleveland Browns had 35 starting quarterbacks. They don't have more starting quarterbacks than starting quarterbacks. And they got two of them. I tell you what, I got another one for you. I'm going to tell you, the Cleveland Browns have found probably their best corner they've ever had is Denzel Ward. You know how long it took for them to find a Denzel Ward? They had Lee Bodden.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Lee Bonden was really good. They had Dave McCutcheon. Yeah, I mean, just before your time, they had Hamford Dick and Frank Minifield. They were really good. They weren't no Denzel. They were, they were, hey, you didn't do some homework on the board. They weren't Denz in a war.
Starting point is 00:42:24 They were really good. Yeah. No, Ocho, they were really good. Menafield and Dixon, they were real, no, Ocho. Yeah. They were really good. I'm trying to think, who else Cleveland had? They had Joe Hayden.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Oh, would Joe? I forgot about you. I know you did. Joe, but listen, Joe, Joe was great. Joe was good. Joe was really good. Lee Barton was very good.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Dale McCutcheon, Dale McCutcheon. Did I say it right? Remember Dale McCutche from USC? Yeah. It was really good. But Denzel Ward? Different ballgame. Oh, Denzel, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Yeah, different ballgame. Think about it. Okay, so name the quarterback equivalent of Denzel Ward in Cleveland. name the, what you call them, the equivalent of Joe Hayden, quarterback in Cleveland. I just gave, you just gave me two cornerbacks, now give me the quarterback equivalent. They haven't been able to find one. There you go. There you go.
Starting point is 00:43:29 But look, this is, like you said, they left off Pat P. They left off Asante. I'm trying to think. else was yeah that's too for sure they left off pat p bidden like seven eight pro bowls um i think assante went to like three four pro bows Hold on. What?
Starting point is 00:44:09 What hell Charles Watson? Oh, shoot. I forgot about wood. First of all, the man played corner for 10 years. Damn. He wasn't no always no safety. I don't know why that slipped my mind.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Who the hell made this goddamn list? It shouldn't have been top five. They should have just said. their top 10, because it's hard to squeeze five in when there's so many that's worthy of a spot. Hey guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. Starting point is 00:47:15 Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players than we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier.
Starting point is 00:47:49 And we watched Badaway against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow. Now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Tileau. Well, Tile would be in that same conversation with Asante Sandwich as well. Todd law at the Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Yeah, I know. I know. With three Super Bowes. It was, it was that bill, and the physicality that Ty, them did, remember on the, on the, on the, uh, on the, and on the greatest show on turf,
Starting point is 00:48:48 how physical they were. Mm-hmm. Coach Belichick, that's Coach Belichick style when he was with the Giants. They got physical with the bills. in the cake on. Right up in your face. Yep. Right up in your face. Man.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Ooh, they left some people off. Did it live here. I'm gonna call Woody. Hey, Woody, they ain't got you on here. Listen, that ain't, that ain't, they're not doing. Whoever made that list. Oh, Joe, the Joe Milton height may be already over in Dallas. Milton, 9 of 18, 122 yards, and one of a reception. With all the hype around Milton's arm, is he proven just to be a combine? or is it still too early, Ocho? Oh, that's a good one.
Starting point is 00:49:30 That's a good one. It's great. People get enamored with how far somebody can throw the ball. Tom Brady wasn't throwing the ball 70 yards, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, all the great quarter. I mean, you've had a few, Elway, Marino, you've had a few quarterbacks that can throw the ball 65, 70 yards. But damn, is it accurate?
Starting point is 00:49:53 Can you give me 40 inaccurate as opposed to something? somebody can throw the ball 70, 80 yards. Because how many times you're going to throw this, unless you throw the hell man from your own day of 30, like Cordell Stewart C, you beat Michigan, when are you going to use a 70-yard arm? Yeah, you're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:50:08 I mean, listen, being able to do it, everyone's enamored with the arm strength and not understanding, well, can you play in a structure environment and be able to make all three-level throws? Can you throw the short stuff? Can you throw the intermediate stuff, you know? That's what I'm looking for.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Yeah, that's what it all comes down to. having the arm strength that's like being able to run routes but also being fast being fast okay that's great that's a position you're able to do everything else having a strong arm is great but can you do the other things as well that are more important than just having the arm strength itself it's it's like it's like being able to jump in basketball boy that joke we jump out the gym can't he play basketball can't he shoot mm-hmm can't defend that's what a big arm Boy, that joke. Hey, he threw it, hey, he goes a one knee, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:50:59 and split the uprights from the 50. Okay, so how many times he's going to be throwing it from his knee? Okay. When he's standing on two feet and he's throwing a 12-yard out, can he complete it? When he throwing the 15-yard comeback or the hook, can he complete it? On the shallow cross.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Don't make it that easy. Can he do all those throws with pressure coming at him and being able to step up in the pocket and still be accurate and make those throws. I need you to be able to do some of the things under the rest. Can you do it under the rest? Because I know when it's clean. Every quarterback will look good if it's a clean pocket.
Starting point is 00:51:43 It's just like, man, the zone. Everybody can find the zone, find the dead area in the zone, don't you? But when that joke is, when he right there across from you, he one yard away from you and he's sitting down in your face can you get over then and I ain't talking about take you all day because quarterback can't be
Starting point is 00:52:04 back there jacking the ball damn I'm about to talk like we talking football back there patting the football oh I'm like damn son how much time do you think the quarterback got that you're going to make five moves It ain't happening. You're going to run a stutter go out and go.
Starting point is 00:52:26 But listen. How do you run a stutter go out and go? I will say. I'm not sure how much patience team have, but with a quarterback like that that has that kind of arm, it would be a great project to continue to help develop him.
Starting point is 00:52:39 Maybe in the right situation, he can be pivotal for an offense. Maybe not the Cowboys. Maybe not the Cowboys, but somewhere, just allow him to continue to develop under the right tutelage in the off season
Starting point is 00:52:54 going to see a Jordan Palmer working on your game, not throwing the ball deep, working on your game. I would limit that. I wouldn't call a haul of a bunch of, okay, he can throw the deep ball. It's the other stuff. See, this is what I have the utmost respect
Starting point is 00:53:10 for Tyreek, because he didn't become reliant on his speed. He became a technician. Tyreek can run the robbery. When he first got into the lead, he was mainly a gadget. guy. They give it to him on jet sweeps and toss it to him and things like that. But Tyreek says, in order for me to be the type of
Starting point is 00:53:26 player that I want to be, I'm going to have to learn this route tree. I'm going to have to run the stop. I'm going to run the out. I'm going to have to run the slant. I'm going to run to run the comeback. Dig, the over. I'm going to have to be a complete. And he didn't become, yeah, his speed is a added bonus. But Tyree can run the tree.
Starting point is 00:53:43 And a lot of times, guys just become relying on speed. They're sloppy route. They just, guys, if you just run if you just run the guy just going to run right in front of you he going to pin you to the side and he'll run your ass out of bounds I don't care how much speed you got if you don't stack that guy you're run you out of bounds he'll make he'll make the quarterback make you he'll make you make you make the quarterback drop it down to team which means it has to be all every time you got to stack it as soon as soon as soon as you can you can you
Starting point is 00:54:20 get around him you got to start squeezing him back in to give your quarterback an opportunity to throw the ball over here to put it right here the only way he can get to the ball is going through you go got to go up your back that's a flag that's a flag but i think sometimes ocho when you've been blessed with an attribute and in joe milton's case it's his arm i don't know if he's worked on the minutia, the fine details of playing the quarterback position. How many times you see Tom Brady, how many times you see Tom Brady throw the ball 60 yards? With Randy Moss, I've seen it a few times.
Starting point is 00:54:59 I bet he got more passes to Edelman and Wes Welker than he got the Randy Moss. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And what's the other guy named? What was the number 80? Put Brown. No, no, no, not, Amandola. Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:55:15 He got more completions than Amandola. to Edelman and Welker than it does boss. Because what was that offense predicated on? Now, it was great because you got an opportunity to see him throw the ball down the field. But what was Tom? Yeah. But, listen. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:32 I'll sneak it up. I'm going to go over here. Well, Tom Brady, in that offense in the Winging, all those years, is probably one of the few offenses. Maybe the only offense, but the offenses run from the inside out. Yeah. It's not red from the outside end. It's red from the inside out, which is why West Walker was so good.
Starting point is 00:55:50 Amandola. And the tight ends. Hell, even the back. That's why they weren't reliant. Man, they weren't reliant on outside guys outside the numbers. They've only had really one. Everything else was inside.
Starting point is 00:56:08 When you go back and study them, you look at Troy Brown, you look at Patton and you look at Dionne Branch, you look at Amandolia and Welker and Edelman, they were inside the number guys. Really, that couple of years that they had Moss, what was that, 2007, 2007, because 2008, Brady got hurt, and that's with Castle, and I think Moss came back,
Starting point is 00:56:34 what, played one more year with, might have played one more year with Brady, 2009, I think. I know he played two years there, seven and eight. What year was that 23 touchdown season? 2007. That was the year they got beating the Super Bowl That was perfect They were undefeated when they played the Giants in Arizona
Starting point is 00:56:50 Man they look boy they lit it up That season before The Super Bowl logo theory is back Lions versus the Ravens Super Bowl confirmed Look at that, Ocho Lion versus who? Ravens I have a question
Starting point is 00:57:10 When they made the logo last year before the season started, who was on the logo last year? Did they get it right? Mad 26 also did a simulation, and they had the Packers beating the Ravens in the Super Bowl. So who was on the thing last year? Who did they have the colors? Because I guess they're looking at the color waves,
Starting point is 00:57:33 and you're looking at the purple or you're looking at the sky blue. That's the lion's color. Last year, it was the Eagles Chiefs. Whoa. Serious? Yep. So Lamar Jackson going to get his Super Bowl this year? Man 26 got the Packers beating the Ravens,
Starting point is 00:57:59 but the logo thing, it didn't say who's winning. Hey, that's interesting. I like that. There's last year's, yo. logo you see the red and then you see the green wait okay you see yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that's dope I don't know what that's possible and I know it's gonna be the Bengals but okay
Starting point is 00:58:31 nah they say nothing about the Bengals Ocho I'm sorry you do see you do see my team doing something they haven't done before playing in the preseason right the starters Joe Burrow I mean I kind of see your team doing something they've done a lot missed the playoffs yeah so
Starting point is 00:58:57 hey listen it's all funny games now it's all funny games now Ocho Hall of Fame Pats Russia HBCU alum Texas Southern alum Michael Strahan said
Starting point is 00:59:13 he used to eat fast food before every NFL game he played in. I used to actually stop at fast food restaurants and eat before I got to the stadium. That was my pre-game meal. But don't listen to me. Don't listen to me. I've been saying it for a very long time. All the greats have done it. I'm not saying I was great.
Starting point is 00:59:33 I'm just saying I played at a very high level for a very long time while entertained at the same time. He was always hurt, though. Look. Michael Jordan, pre-game meal is well-documented. It was McDonald's. Usain Boat. It's well-documented. Oh, Joe.
Starting point is 00:59:54 Oh, Joe. If you want to eat it once or twice, that's fine. That was your staple. There's a difference. He said before every game, he didn't play a game every day. I know. I ate it before every game. You ate it every day.
Starting point is 01:00:12 Right. but that's why I didn't get hurt. Okay. I like that. That's dope. That's dope. I'm glad Mike came out and said that, man. It further proves my method about Ocho versus Science.
Starting point is 01:00:31 And I've been winning for a very long time. Sue Bird is now officially enshrined in bronze in Seattle as the first WMBA statue in history. Look at the That's raw That's raw Yeah I like that
