Zion contract with the Pelicans includes a specific weight clause
Starting point is 00:02:59 stipulating that the sum of his body weight in pounds and his body fat percentage must be real main. Below 2.95. If he fails to meet periodic weigh-ins, the amount of guaranteed money in his contract can be reduced. Somebody says Zion Williamson's off-season. Transformation is the equivalent of Ben Simmons hitting threes in the gym. Joe, just like your cowboy.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Is it the year? Zion, he does look good. He does look good. And when he plays, he's another one guy. We talked about Kwai. You talk about his weight and the injuries, and he's had his fair share. But with Zion Williamson plays, he's phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Now, I won't you get more rebounds because I think a guy, look, if Charles Barkley can every damn double-digit rebounds, so can you. Yeah. Hey, when I seen this, bro, I said, I seen it on IG. I said, damn, somebody hearing the whispers. So I guess the guy who's been training him, he responded. He was like, nah, we won't hear the whispers. Damn it, he heard something.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Oh, you did it. He heard something because man, if this man can look like this, bro, listen, he already can't be stopped when his ass play. Okay, Ocho, I don't care who you put on that man. He too quick. He too fast. He too agile. If that man in peak shape, Uncle Ocho.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Yeah. So let me ask you a question, Ocho, Joe. He said, he's trying to say they didn't hear the whispers. So why didn't he come in there like that as a rookie? Hello. Or his second year. Hello. Or his third year.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Why the hell did they got a weight clause? I bet you LeBron ain't got no weight clause in his contract. I bet she ain't got no weight clause in his contract. Right. So why does he have a weight clause if he ain't hearing the whisper? Why are he looking like that now? Because now I got a problem because you wasted five or six of these years, bulljiving. But you don't hear the whispers?
Starting point is 00:04:49 Come on, bro. It's okay to hear them. It's okay to hear them. This is how you should look. Now, looking like that is one thing. Staying like that is something entirely different. Because you know, The easiest thing you do is getting shaping the off-season.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Because guess what? You're structured, you're right there. But now when you start playing every other night and you hit that roll and you're grabbing them wings and them chicken fingers and that burgers and you're drinking them high-calorie sodas. That's when it's different. See, you got to got cooking for you all the time.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Not Joe. Oh, Joe, I ain't got to do nothing but go work out, train and come home. And he got veggies and he got chicken breads and he got salmon. And he got that good stuff of it. Yeah. But when you're going on that road, Joe, and you know this.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Hey, when you play them that late game on the West Coast and you just got to grab something and go? Yeah. And they got fried chicken and they got wings and they got pizza and they got Tater skins. Mm-hmm. Hey, hey, hey, that's when you gotta be dedicated to bring your own stuff. Like uncle used to say, he used to bring his own, but man, look, damn all that. Hey, me speaking to Zion right now, bro, if you, I'm telling you, if you can stay in this type
Starting point is 00:05:58 shape. I know you're going to dominate. Boy, you look good. Boy, I ain't going to lie, too. He looked great. This is an all-star. This body right here, all-star. This guy right here is an all-NBA selection. Oh, yeah. No question. Matter of fact, you know what, forget the whispers.
Starting point is 00:06:14 How many years he got left on his contract? Is this a contract? Probably like two or three. Probably at least two or three, Ocho, because he signed the rookie extension. But they stipulated it. I can lose. Ocho, I'm not put no, you're not going to take no money away from me. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Think about it. We talked about this in football, Ocho. They put it, they put in, and Kyle Emery's contract. Why they put that in there? Because they know you're not going to do what you're supposed to. I can't get you to Gia Ha. Now, I'm paying you hundreds of millions of dollars. And I got to tell you, you got to be at this way.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Yeah. Yeah. How did, if you had a regular job and your boss tell you, he's stipulated. your contract, you got to show up to work on time. You got to do your work. Really? They're probably going to fire your ass. You know, the funny thing about it too long,
Starting point is 00:07:07 I'm not sure if you had anybody on your team like that. Yeah, I had a bunch of guys that couldn't make weight. Hell yeah, I had a position. So sometimes, you know, you got to put stipulation on certain people that have a problem with they weight. Certain people that have a problem with drinking. Certain people that have a problem with eating, you know, you know, you know, and Zion just happened to be, I had there ever been other NBA players,
Starting point is 00:07:25 Uncle Joe, that have had this issue with their weight? fluctuate like it's it's been guys who had Charles Barker say he weighed 300 pounds Charles said he didn't want to go to Philly. Yeah, yeah. What, he weighed who? He didn't want to go. Charles weighed 300.
Starting point is 00:07:38 At six, he said, the best thing happened to him, he went to Philly and Moser Malone. Mosul said you got two problems, Charles. He said, you fat and you lazy. Those are the only two problems you got. Fat, fat, fat, fat, fake.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Hey, let Charles tell you the story what Moe told it. Yeah, no, no. You only got two problems. You fat and you lazy. You fat and them facts. I'm fad. He said, what are we going to do?
Starting point is 00:08:02 He said, we're going to do it all at once. He said, we'll lose 10 pounds in the next month. Yeah. Charles said, okay, boom, lost 10. Yeah. He felt okay. Lost another 10. Charles said he got down like $2.50.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Yeah. It was a wrap. Couldn't do nothing with him. Hell, Charles average like 22 points, 11, 12 rebounds for a career. Yeah. Chuck, yeah. And six four. They're bold in there.
Starting point is 00:08:33 That's my thing to Zion. Zion, Zion should be a more explosive Charles Barkley. Oh, yeah, he's. But y'all better stop sleeping on Chuck. I know he talked a lot and, you know, y'all tell you that he'd be on the guys, he'd be on the guy's hand. Charles Barkley was a great player. Now, he was a dog.
Starting point is 00:08:51 A great, a great player. I remember Chuck, I remember when he was at, at Auburn with Chris Morris. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. They were good. They were really good. Chris Morris from Georgia. He's a Georgia boy.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Oh, is it? Yeah. I ain't know that. Yeah, yeah. Hey, but look, when you think about it, I think what year is this for Zaya and Arco? It's gotta be like six. Hey, look that up right quick.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I think, I thought, he has two more years. He has two more years on his contract. So guess what? He played like he's supposed to what they're gonna do, Ocho, what they're gonna do, Joe? Joe, give another one. Wop him up, guap him down.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah, yeah. Hey, but listen, that's why this year is so important. That's why he's coming back looking the way he's looking. And I just hope, you just hope with guys like this, you hope that they've learned and this is just not a contract year because we've all been in a situation
Starting point is 00:09:49 where we see guys do what they need to do just for the contract year, and then once they get the contract, they'll revert back to what they've done before. Now, I hope this is anxiety, but look the fact of the matter is that they put that they put that man Zion entering his eighth year hey that went fast bro it's been eight that fast yeah it goes for hey look this is why it's so important bro that when you come into the a
Starting point is 00:10:21 professional sport especially the NBA that you come into a great damn environment say what you want to say about the Miami heating Pat Riley and how trick you. Man, that's the type of, some guys need that, bro. Think about it, Zion was, man, we wouldn't have to wait this long, okay, Ocho for him to get like this. No, he don't hell no. You see what I'm saying? Yep. Like, some guys really need you to be a damn down their back. You know what I mean? Like, I just think it's needed at times because if you come into an environment to where they don't police you, they don't check your weight and your body fat, they don't make you lift weights, you know, three, two, three times. Hey, man, at some point here, you're going to fail.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Because everybody don't have a gun in the badge. They can't police themselves. Hello. And that's the problem. I heard Dionne Dawkins say, Buffalo Bills, they give you a weight to come in. If you're over that weight, they charge you $800 a pound, Ocho. Oh! 800.
Starting point is 00:11:14 When I was in the league, it was 50 and 75. But the team set that. And then it doubles every time that you come in over there. So if you're two pounds over and they charge you 50, obviously, that's $100, $150 for 75. Then it goes, it doubles. So it's 150 and 200 for every pound that you over. Pound's add up quick. Because guess what?
Starting point is 00:11:39 When it's hot, it's easy to get that way. You sweat that thing off. You go sit in the sauna, boom. What happens when it get cold? Yeah. And I don't know, you all know, y'all know this. In Denver, it get real cold. In BMO, it gets cold.
Starting point is 00:11:51 It's 92. You know, Joe, I was overweight a few times, Joe. You were? Yeah, Joe. How? Why Joe, Ken Joe, I came in, we got, we got cold. And one 75, he ain't never been overweight. I get on the scale eating sausage biscuits.
Starting point is 00:12:07 I get on the scale, Joe, I get on a scale, I'm eating sausage biscuits, I've been pancakes, I got pancakes in my head, I'm eating. I ain't never had no weight problem. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. When it was hot like September, you know, I told him, and I was about, about $192,00. We got cold, Joe.
Starting point is 00:12:27 That man ain't seen 200 day of their life. With cinder blocks tied around his ankle, he ain't 200. I was rocked up, boy. So get away, he ain't too. 1-80. Go look at it. Ocho, you know people can pull your thing up and watch you on YouTube, right? Yeah, and that's probably from September and October.
Starting point is 00:12:48 No, that's whatever. Shelly talking about stop lying on me. I ain't lied on you, Shelly. You know you got less patience to me. But yeah. I'm happy for Zion, man. Hey, hey,
Starting point is 00:13:03 seem like he, he's looking forward to having a big season this year because, boy, that boy looked good, boy. You know, he looked great. That boy didn't take of his damn. So I'm talking about, ooh,
Starting point is 00:13:14 can you imagine probably the explosion that he guys now? It's probably a little lighter. Hey, let me tell you something. Man, if you ain't in that weight room, bro, chat, y'all listen up. Man, doing a professional sport, obviously, I know football, but in basketball,
Starting point is 00:13:27 you cannot get through an 82 game season. if your ass ain't in their weight room, bro. Your body will break down. That's too much up and down, Joe. It's no way in hell you get to play 82 games and you don't touch them weights at least two, three times out of the week. You got to. That's why it's so important that when these young guys get drafted to teams,
Starting point is 00:13:49 that they have a veteran presence, somebody who can show them the ropes, but not only that, you got coaches who you can trust and who can show you the ropes as well because it's easy to get lost, bro. Yeah. Joe, you said something very interesting earlier. You say going to the right situation matters.
Starting point is 00:14:04 It does. It absolutely matters because I remember a lot of guys that we had because I had Dan Reed for three years. I had Wade filler for two years. And a lot of the guys, they would do for Mike what they wouldn't do for Wade. Yeah. And me, I'm going to play hard regardless.
Starting point is 00:14:24 That's just the way I was brought up. You know, hey, Barney Porter, hey, the man gets you honest Saturday. You give him an honor day's work. Don't be going on. people jaw bulljiving. And that's what it made me mad. I say, see what y'all do?
Starting point is 00:14:36 Because y'all see, they didn't fear Wade. They feared Mike, because Mike could cut your ass. And Mike can tell you, he cut you. He said, everybody that's in this room, you're here for one reason. I wanted you here. Yeah. Nobody else, me.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And when you leave this room, you don't have to ask any questions. Why? It ain't no general manager. It ain't no own. It ain't no position coach me. I'm the reason you hear. That's all I needed to know.
Starting point is 00:15:08 But I was a guy that always did what I was supposed to do. Right. Bro, I understand. This is a lifelong dream of mine. And I'm a mess and I'm not going to do what I'm supposed to, like as far as eating and training and being on time. I'm like guys, you, there is no way you can tell me that you just want to, broke up yesterday and said, I want to be an NFL player.
Starting point is 00:15:34 But a lot of times because you've been great and people let you skate. You come late. You're the best player, Ocho, you can come late. You make the most plays. You do X, Y, and Z. You can do all this stuff. I could not in good conscience. I can't function like that.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Because somebody who really believes in you, bro, and you let them down, that should do something to you. I was just telling my son this other day, bro. I said, man, it's a slapping people's face when they expect something out of you, you know what I mean, and you don't deliver. Like, they give you an opportunity and you play with it. Man, that's a slap in that person's face, bro. Yeah, so I get it.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I'm like you. Hey, when Boston drafted me, I want to be the best rookie they had. Okay, Ocho, I did everything I could. Hell, I just wanted to be on the damn court. I got to tell you, they talk about ISO. There's like, damn that ISO. Boy, I was hawking somebody down. trying to play. Hey, I'm locking up.
Starting point is 00:16:32 I'm in the passing lane. I'm being a pest on defense. Boy, ain't getting about five shots a game, Ocho. Dang. Yeah, but that's all you. I'm making them count, though. The effort, that's it. Yeah. Making them count. Steve Proffertaine said that. He said, to give anything
Starting point is 00:16:48 less than your best is the sacrifice to give. To give anything less to your best is the sacrifice to give. You have a gift. I got to put that in my notes right there. That's a good one now. That is a gift. It's demeaning.
Starting point is 00:17:08 I like that. Then Rees went and got a guy from Savannah State in the seventh round. Hey, he figures like, hell, his brother, the first round draft pick. They went to the same house. They ate the same thing. He got to have something in there. I just don't get it. I just don't get it.
Starting point is 00:17:31 And you can't make me get it. I don't, I don't do lazy. I don't. Not when you're to reach the highest level, bro. Yeah, I can't. I don't sacrifice. I don't did everything. I done did everything.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Right. And now I get to the highest level. I'm going to skate now. I didn't skate in JV. I didn't skate in high school. I didn't skate in college. Now I get to this level. I'm going to skate.
Starting point is 00:18:00 And then Wade Phillips, Wade Phillips was a decorinator for my three years before he became head coach. He'd go get Jim Fossil. rest Jim Foster's soul. Jim Foster say, son, I'm going to build my offense around you. You're the best player outside of John Dill where you're the best player we got on the offense.
Starting point is 00:18:17 I'm going until my fourth year. A seventh round draft pick, he said, I'm the second best player? Okay. He said, I'm going to put a lot on your plate. Let's tackle my position coach. Man, he worked. Ooh, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:18:38 I ain't going to lie. By the time we got out of individuals, practice was a breeze. Man, that man, worked the dogs. Man, look here. Joe, I was tired like a one-legged man in the ass-kicking contest. That's like, man, that man worked the dog.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Individual? Yes! Oh, Joe. Individuals back then was 45 minutes. Ghali. Ain't nobody worked like that tight-in group. Man, that man had us do it. Everything.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I'm talking about we soaked. I'm talking about soap beyond soap. Why, eh, I don't been, uh, I'm telling. Man, I just, I, I, I can't sacrifice the gift. God, God didn't give me a, he didn't give me a musical ability. He didn't give me an ability to sing. He didn't give me an ability to dance. He didn't give, he gave me the ability to play a sport.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah. He gave me that. He gave me this body. He gave me this mind. And he allowed me to be born. to Mary Alice Porter and Wenton Pete Sharp. Hello. And then he said, you know what?
Starting point is 00:19:51 I'm gonna break y'all, I'm gonna pull y'all apart and I want them boys to go down there and live with their maternal grandparents. Mary and Barney Porter. Mm. All that's a part of the plan. And people like, and people are, your mom, no. You see, as long as you don't care who gets the credit,
Starting point is 00:20:15 you don't realize how, sometimes, sometimes, sometimes the best decisions don't involve you. But because you wanted to involve you, you want your name to be in print. Best decisions don't involve. I mean, look here, what, what my mom gonna do with two teenage boys on the damn side of Chicago? She's working.
Starting point is 00:20:45 My daddy going on his way, my mom doing her thing trying to work. I know where y'all can go. You're gonna get, you're gonna get two meals. You ain't gonna get no three. get cereal, if that's a meal, okay. But you go, hey, you're gonna have a roof over your damn head. It might leak, but hey, you ain't gonna be in the rain, all the rain, they're gonna rain directly on your ass.
Starting point is 00:21:03 It might leak a little bit on your ass. You'll get, hey, you'll get fed, but you're gonna get disciplined. And you're gonna come up knowing right from wrong because born and Porter ain't gonna have it no other way. And then when he passes, Mary Porter gonna be, for that first couple years after Pop-up passed, she was raw ruthless than he was.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Yeah. Cause you say, y'all, it's like, off now. Hello. And my grandma, my mom said, Mama, I'm gonna take the boys. She said, no, no, you're not. They're my boys. No, you're not taking them.
Starting point is 00:21:39 So I just, God been too good for you to sacrifice that gift, Joe. God gave you those feet. He gave that ability to be entertaining. And you sacrifice it to do. what you mess over it to do what how many guys we well I can say when we go back home a shot tell him what not better than you that's a hell of thing to say 40 years 40 years ago yeah people looking at you like you crazy yeah yeah man sharp
Starting point is 00:22:19 with you no he was he was really good he was really good yeah he was at that point in time he was better than I was he absolutely was he He didn't lie. But he wanted to drink, smoked dope, didn't want to come to school. I just didn't, eh, hey, when you get exposed to stuff like that at the early age, bro. Chad, y'all stay with me. Boy, you get exposed to something like that at the early age, and that's why I'm so glad, man. The homies I was kicking it with, my home boy, Vaugh, VG, we was together every day.
Starting point is 00:22:58 None of us was on none of that. You know what I mean? We weren't drinking, smoke. All we did was who? I think the guys who you grow up with, the guys who you run with, hang with, whatever the hell they're doing, nine times out of ten,
Starting point is 00:23:09 you're going to be doing the same damn thing. Yeah. So once I got the high school. What did you say? I was hanging in them fields. Picking peas, picking up pecans. I was like, damn, do we, I remember, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:25 being speaking, we talked about, I was like, man, do you think other kids work like we work? Hell no. And I ain't go to school. I had never went to school the next summer. Kids, you know, obviously the white kids, they go into Disney, they doing stuff like that. They ain't talking about working.
Starting point is 00:23:44 We go from clipping onions to cropping the backer to catching chickens to picking up pecans, to bailing hay. I'm a little fella. I'm nine, ten years old lifting them big old bales of hay. The hay that y'all see, they've given them damn cows and them horses. Yeah. At ten, I can handle a bailing hay by my damn self. Well, you were strong.
Starting point is 00:24:10 You were strong back then, boy. What you think? Oh, you think it's a weightlifting body, huh? No, ain't that weightlifting body? Yes, it definitely helped, but no. And I wanted to show, because I was, like I said, they called me peewee because I was so small. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I had to show, I had to carry my own weight. Man, hey, cause you start walking behind tobacco picker. As you get older, you start cropping tobacco. Once you start cropping, you get big and strong enough. You can hang the racks. You graduate hanging the racks to working at the barn. You get to drive the trucks to and from. Yeah, you're gonna do it.
Starting point is 00:24:46 That's my goal. I want to walk behind the picker. I wanted the crop. I wanted to hang racks. I wanted to work into the back. I want to work at the barn. That was my goal. I mean, I was so small, I had to tiptoe.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Catman cows be on fire at the end of the day. I didn't tiptoe so much, because I ain't tall enough because all the other guys could, you know, throw it on the leg. I had a tiptoe to get, I'm straight in. him and say, boy, I'm going to tell Granny, you're up here, strain and try,
Starting point is 00:25:13 you're going to be to hurt yourself. Let me out, leave me a title tear. Shit, man. You know, we're talking about I tell. Y'all will be talking about I told. Let me be with a title tell tell you. I'm going to tell granny, you're going to be there to hurt yourself. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:26 She's talking about, boy, you're going to be done to give yourself a hernia. You won't be able to have no kids. Now, that's the last thing. I ain't thinking about no kid, grand. I'm living 12 years old. I'm thinking about hanging these racks up. and it's hanging these racks up so I can get to the barn.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Hey, chance of their farm strength different, boy. Hey, watermelas, I know y'all, I mean, black people,
Starting point is 00:25:50 you're supposed to say watermelon. I lift themopo too. Yeah, yeah. Oh, you load of road, uh, fame,
Starting point is 00:25:56 lifting hay. That was the first time my body ever cramped up. But if you have anything, now they got them big, big, like the big, big bells.
Starting point is 00:26:03 But we used to have those square bells like this, there, Ocho. Yeah. And they had the twine, the strings down there. And so you had to grab it like this and take it and put your knee up on it. And put it up there. Yeah. I was a little fellow doing it.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Because I couldn't let my cousin do something. And I had to be there. I had to do it too. Big old watermelon. Y'all know. I don't know what these watermelon they got. Not them little old watermelon, a little old candle little baseball side down watermelon. Them damn watermelon we had this damn long.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Yeah, yeah. We level the whole truck, clipping onions, take it down there to the mascot. Man, y'all better check my working resume. If I don't work another day outside. You're good. I'm good. I'm more than good.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Y'all heard my brother say it. Barney Porter say, get up and watch the sunrise. Who heard that? Chad, anybody heard that? Anybody parents tell them that, grandparents tell them that? I ain't know. Get up and watch the sunrise on a Saturday. I ain't never heard that.
Starting point is 00:27:10 I didn't know. Hey, hey, but guess what, man. Hey, hey, it built good character, man.
Starting point is 00:27:16 It shaped you all up, man to some decent young man. It, it was going to be a, hey, it was going to build me to go to the military because I was already disciplined.
Starting point is 00:27:25 And my brother said, if my grandfather doesn't pass because he already told the coaches, Coach Hall coached all my uncles. My uncles ended up getting breaking their leg, breaking their collarbone.
Starting point is 00:27:33 And Barney said, nah. He said, No. He said, Hall, he'll talk my uncles, because they had, hey, they had the same type of body. They just weren't as tall as I am, but they had the same type of body. They grew up working on the farm.
Starting point is 00:27:47 They got muscles, big old wide backs and quads and hamstrings and biceps. Coach all don't talk, Papa, and they're letting them play. He said, Hall, if one of them boys get hurt, who will help me on this damn farm? Oh, Mr. Porter, ain't nothing gonna happen to it. James break his leg. He didn't tell their sister coach
Starting point is 00:28:14 that Papa said that if somebody something happened to one of the boys, one of y'all lands gonna be out in the fields helping me with these fields. He don't talk, hey, take that boy home. He pulled up there, James, get out of the car, got the crutches. Papa looked at him.
Starting point is 00:28:36 What the hell wrong with that damn boy? Mr. Porter, he broke, he broke his ankle. Did Hall tell you what I had told him? Uh, no, sir. He said, I told him if something happened to one of them down boys, one of y'all gonna get your ass out in the field with him. Well, Mr. Barton, I don't know anything. I don't know anything about farming.
Starting point is 00:28:58 So who in the hell go help me in these fields? He said, don't worry about it. You won't get another one. You won't get another one. So he wasn't gonna let us play. Me, if I get already, hey, I'm going to the military. I ain't been working, I ain't been to be working.
Starting point is 00:29:15 I ain't been to work back this here. Not even, no, no, no, no, hell. Hey, he got some good labor out of y'all, boy, in the military. Hey, Joe, I was working minimum wage with $3.37 an hour. It ain't much more right now when you boojab to $7.25. That's what the, that's what the federal level is. I mean, state, it varies, you know, $10, $15, $20, $25, $25,
Starting point is 00:29:39 but minimum wage with 3.37 an hour. Hmm. They tell them what somebody told me. I'm telling what I know. $5 a day. That's what we made. $5. Now, if you cropped the back, you got 16,
Starting point is 00:29:52 but I walked behind the picker. I got five. And it made a mistake in Bulljive, and he took my pay down. It got a raise. I got a raise. The $6 because my cousin, Lundy, talked me to get in the raise.
Starting point is 00:30:04 I say, Mr. Joe, man, we'd be working hard. Yeah. He said, y'all pee whiz. Call my cousin, Sunday. down because he said, Mr. Joe, the sun doesn't go on down. It's time to knock off now. That we called getting our work knocking off. He said, all right, Peewee, son down.
Starting point is 00:30:17 What you think y'all work? I said, a dollar. He gave us a dollar. Then, then, leave me take a black ass home. Granted, Mr. Joe gave them boys a raise, a dollar raise, and all they do is play. Granny, talking about, you just rock it. Just like this, Joe, don't you?
Starting point is 00:30:41 Hating that chill. Ray didn't say nothing. Mr. Joe pulled up this morning. Pull up the next morning. Joe. Hey, Mary, how you doing? I'm good. Liberty told me you gave them boys a raise.
Starting point is 00:30:57 See, yeah, Mary, they, them little fellas, they work hard now. Yeah, but she told me all they did with play. She said, take it back. Every since you won't find a man that's ever told you I've been on his job
Starting point is 00:31:12 and then give him nothing, or 100% of everything that I got, no matter the job. The Broncos, the Ravens, CBS, Fox, ESPN. That's all I know. I can't sacrifice the gift, Ocho. Right. Anything less. You're sacrificing the gift.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Came for it. Oh, Lord. What happened? Cam Scataboo went viral for the wrong reasons, Ocho, when he attempted the backflip while mimicking a W.W.E. style interest. Guys, take a look at this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Scap Pack. Let's go. Hey, I'm Ruby Carr, the host of the podcast, Encore. Check out our brand new episodes featuring music from the show that everyone is reheating as we speak. Heated rivalry. Join me as I go behind the songs that brought Shane and Elia together. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blue zones, and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever, for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you, and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Here's some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a four to five-year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Declaration, which is full of these beautifully rendered sentences and paragraphs about enlightenment ideals, does also have this darker history to it. Why is it important for the darker part of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution? Why is it important that Americans know about it? well, if we don't understand the full context in which our nation was founded, we won't understand the full context in which our nation now finds itself. I'm Rebecca Nagel. Gohin, Taoadol, Julykai Etliqa, Leigh-Ga-Lan, citizen of Cherokee Nation.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Are you guys big chiefs fans? Hell yeah. This is First America, the true story of how the United States came to be, and how we got to this present moment. Listen to First America on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. We've all been there. We've had seasons that have shaken everything. The question is, what remains when the shaking stops? Hi, I'm Gary Valenzheno. And on my podcast, Unshaken with Gary V, I sit down with amazing personalities and we talk about the seasons that nearly broke them. the lows that carried them to their highs.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Listen to Unshaken with Gary V on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Emily Oster. I'm an economist and data expert. And I'm Perry Wilson. I'm a medical doctor. And this is our new podcast, Wellness Actually. Because you're getting a staggering amount of health and wellness information nowadays, and some of it is awesome. And some of it is, well, actually bullshit.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Fortunately, we're both people who know how to read studies, parse data, and can tell you what's worth trying out and what you can safely ignore. Each episode, we tackle the health news of the week and then take a deeper dive into a misunderstood health and wellness topic, like... What's the deal with peptide? What's the deal with GLP once? What's the deal with creatine? What's the deal with cupping? What's the deal with sleep? So join us for a weekly dose of sanity.
Starting point is 00:35:54 It might actually be just with the doctor. Or the economist. Ordered. Listen to Wellness Actually on the Eyeheart. part radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Pat. Hey, he's going to be okay, Uncle Joe. He's going to be okay.
Starting point is 00:36:17 It was just a backflip. It was just a backflip. He's just showing you, you know, how solid that ankle is right now. And most of the time, you know, after you break it. Show me a training camp. Huh? Show me a training camp. Oh, he definitely going to show you because, you know, he was the show now.
Starting point is 00:36:33 He was a showman before he got hurt. Him and Jackson Dart. That's a great. Oh, I love scat pack. Oh, Aaron. on a state oh he would like that he would nice now oh he would like that oh yeah oh i like the young man i like him a lot hey hey i don't i don't want to i don't want him to take too much of what makes him away from it you know yeah fun kid entertaining he's the live wire and and that that's some that's
Starting point is 00:36:57 something that makes him who he is and that's something that the new york giant need Hold on before you go Joe he later addressed it take a listen Do you enjoy being like the wild maniac moniker is like is that insulting or is that like you no I totally enjoy that part I think I less enjoy the brain dead kind of guy but it is what it is the New York people love it so I'm just gonna keep being me and if they want to say I'm branded and I don't have no brain then He cares fucking. Damn.
Starting point is 00:37:35 No, we're saying be smart. I don't know, but you need to, A, all you have to do is go look at Earl Campbell. You can't break these guys. They're too big, they're too strong. Be smart. Sometimes you got to know when the journey's over. Go ahead, Joe.
Starting point is 00:37:57 When you young, man, you just. It ain't too much that you're scared of, bro. Think about it. When y'all was 21, 22, y'all probably was out there. I couldn't imagine trying to do no damn back flip at 45. You know what I'm saying? Think about it. I'm just saying, man, like when you young like that
Starting point is 00:38:15 and you got so much life ahead of you, like he ain't thinking about no damn injury, man. That may have been laid up for how long. He just wanna get back out there. And this is what you have to deal with with these youngsters, bro. And like he say, the New York fans love it. man going to keep doing it. It's just who he is at this point.
Starting point is 00:38:33 I like it. He ain't, hey, hey, doing the game, y'all want to put that damn blink on and go on. No. It's a schedule. Hey, Joe, if it's a crucial situation, it's okay. It's okay. I'm telling you, it's a rarity that run the contact backs have a long shelf life. You get an anomaly.
Starting point is 00:38:55 You get a Derek Henry or you get an Adrian Peterson. Guys that run to contact. But more times than not, I mean, that's true. Hey, I'll give you a prime example, Ocho. Joe, yo guy, you remember Zeke used to run the contact, didn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then he went from a racehorse to a plow horse.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Yeah, yeah. Yeah, Zeke was mean, boy. Mm-hmm. And after a while, what happened, Joe? Yeah, he started putting that blink on. He was getting over. Hey, those, hey, runs that used to be 25 and 30 yards, turn into a five and six yard game.
Starting point is 00:39:33 They break you down. You got to be smart. In this league, you got to be smart, don't you? Hey, there are times, like, hey, I got to be bravado. I got to go cross the middle and take it. But sometimes, hey, let me put this turf up on my. I mean, over time, he understands it. He doesn't understand it, right?
Starting point is 00:39:52 He's too early for him to understand it. But he's going to get to a point. Longevity concern. Sometimes you got to make business decisions. Yes. Sometimes you got to make business decisions. Hey, in the running back position, hell, hopefully it ain't too late, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:09 because their career isn't long. And it gets even shorter when you run the contact. Yeah. Because the freshest are back is going to be, Joe, when he's right out of college. Yeah, yeah. That's the fresh thing he's going to be. Because guess what?
Starting point is 00:40:24 Normally, if he's any good, he's probably 2021. Yeah. By the time you get the 20, 46, they look at their next 20, 21 year old. Yeah, yeah. And you know, that's how they look at it. I just want to, look, I want the man, I won't demand, because like you said, man, he and Jackson Dart, they're great.
Starting point is 00:40:46 And I want, I want him because I understand that the running back position is, it's starting to come back, Ocho, for certain ones. Yeah. I mean, yeah, you get a Christian McCaffrey, but how many people got a Christian McCaffrey? Right. Or Jamir Gills, or Seekwine, or DeHen. Everybody got those. No.
Starting point is 00:41:04 That's reserved or the guy up in Buffalo. James Cook. Everybody got those. Those are very few that have that kind of value. If you see guys are most valuable, look at the running back. Love, Jeremiah Love. You see the contract that you got? Why he got that contract, Ocho?
Starting point is 00:41:22 Because he's 20. Yeah. He's 20. Oh, yeah. Now, if you get a 60, 60, 60, whatever, 58 million, 60-something million-dollar contract at 20. Now, in order for it to, to, like, they still believe in you,
Starting point is 00:41:39 you have to get you a hundred million dollar contract when your contract up in three years. I mean, you got to be putting in some work, boy. You get that kind of money. You go to that high as a running back. Oh, you get your body ready to take about 300 carries. You're going to get it ready, Ocho. You already know.
Starting point is 00:41:55 It's just like, hey, why receiving you the number one pick and you go into a bad team? Hey, they're going to throw 120 balls at it. you quick hey and and they don't value the running back no damn way hell dude just one damn MVP in the Super Bowl here they ain't bring him back see ho they don't bad you're running back K-9 yeah they don't value if you're not special they don't view them as yes absolutely you got you got to you got to be you got to be a Christian McCaffrey a Jamir Gibbs a Derek Henry you got to be
Starting point is 00:42:26 Sequin you got to be special special yeah yeah and it's like I mean, we appreciate what you did, but They believe they can replace you. Yes. If you ain't him, Joe, they believe they can replace you. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's what, hey, that's in any damn sport, Uncle Ocho. Yes.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Yeah. If you ain't him. But that's what you got to do. And that's what I'm telling scat. Bro, I understand there will be time that you're going to have to get that first down. Yeah. You have to lower your shoulder. But be smart about it.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Hey, I don't care how tough a material is. If I hammer it enough, I'll break it. Yeah. I don't give it damn. Beat on it long enough. It's when I'm breaking. Eventually, oh, Joe, hey, it might take me a while. Probably you tell my brother us all the time, we'd be chopping wood.
Starting point is 00:43:27 He's like, hey, boy, move that stump. I'm like, I'm looking at it like, he's like, move the stump. I'm like, he said, boy, you can move anything if you cut it up enough pieces. Now, bust that stunt. I'm looking at it as just a singular piece. Right. He's telling me to split it up. And then I can move it.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Yeah. So in other words, it can be broken. Beat on it long enough. Just be smart, scat. Just be smart. I understand. Like you said, Joe, when you young, you think you're invincible. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:08 You think you, like, oh, man, it's, ain't nothing. happen to me. I'm young, man. Come on. Now, show you I went, hey, go back and think about some of the things that you did when you was young. Jumping off the roof. I'm like, you're my brother told
Starting point is 00:44:26 what my brother's here you's most proud of? He said he wasn't supposed to be here. Yeah. I wasn't. I just, oh, have mercy. They got to be a God. I else can't. I can't. I can't explain it, Joe.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Yeah. I can't. My grandma used to say, boy, say, you're going to end up in jail. you go into dead you tell me that all the time i'm like damn yeah you're getting into stuff like that oh i was just joe i just my mouth man you talked back a lot couldn't i did joe and she couldn't hit me hard enough to stop me she stopped before a day or two but i like smoking i'll be talking again i'll be talking again damn hey man there i be i be talking again hey man i'll be i be Make me sick. Boy, hey, you get knocked back of your head.
Starting point is 00:45:22 You're talking about somebody, your grandma or your mama make you see what? You be here, you. You need to say nothing, Joe. Hey, they read body language and all. You suck your teeth, anything. Oh, yeah. You know, I think the Jamaicans call it kissing your teeth.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Yeah. Oh, Lord have mercy, boy. My grandma will quick, but you got something wrong with your mouth? Yeah. And all this. Yeah. Oh, bad. But dang, I just breathing.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Yeah, I give you something to side. Read quieter. Yeah, I knocked the taste at your damn mouth. Yeah. Boy, they look, hey, the more people that play. Yeah. We might need to bring somebody back, because, boy, they look here, they, these kids now these days.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Are you going to, you going to jail now? You're going to say that, Joe. You're going straight to jail. Oh, for sure. For sure. Yeah, but your brother told you, hey, they would dig Barney up right now, the rest of him. He ain't up a bone, but they're going.
Starting point is 00:46:15 They put him in jail. They put him in jail. So your bones deserve to go to jail for what the stuff you would do. Yeah. Yeah, man, but I want a young man to have, look, I understand, because when you young, you're excited, you in the NFL, this is a lifelong dream. But the thing is, is to try to make the dream last
Starting point is 00:46:36 as long as you possibly can. Hello. And what people don't realize, oh, Chowell said, man, my dream was the player in the NFL. Well, your dream might only last one year. Yeah. Tom Brady had a dream in their last 23 years. But the average dream only last two and a half to three years.
Starting point is 00:46:52 That's your, you said you had a dream to play. Ain't nobody promised you no five, 10, 15, 20 year career. Think about it. Tom Brady played 23 years. A lot of guys play 10, 15, 18 years. But the average NFL career is two and a half to three years. So when you factor in all that, that's what it is. I stopped playing basketball.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Once I got, after my freshman week, I got drafted, I came back because I wanted to win, I wanted to win the IBA. I wanted to interview a basketball championship. One more time. Yeah. And then I went to the park. We lost.
Starting point is 00:47:37 The man, the man, beat the brakes off us, Joe. I went to the park. I said, man, this is my last time player. I say, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I say, I'm not going to lose. Mm. I said it's the last time I'm playing,
Starting point is 00:47:52 but it's the last time I'm going to play on the black top. This last time I'm playing organized basketball. I'm never picking up a basketball again. I walked out to court. I didn't lose that day. I didn't pick up a basketball again for 30. I can't remember the last time. The last time I played basketball, Joe, was 1991.
Starting point is 00:48:10 It's been 35 years since I dribbled a basketball and somebody was up there trying to defend me. Damn. You probably got a goal at your house, though you shoot on there now and now. I do. I don't even go out there, Joe. I don't even go out there. Man, you ought to go skiing for what? Phil Mayor?
Starting point is 00:48:32 Lizzie Bond. She didn't play football to get in shape for skiing. Because I saw too many guys to tear ACLs, Ocho. When they're, skiing, playing basketball. Hey, hey, hey, when I was playing in Utah, you know, obviously. in professional sports, you ain't supposed to ski a snowboard and nothing of that. But boy, look, when I was in Utah, I'm a snowboard.
Starting point is 00:48:58 I like the snowboard. I think that's something we all should go do, man. We should go snowboard. No, now you're talking, Joe. You see what I'm saying? No. No. No, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Snowboarding sideways, you're on the board. It's like riding a skateboard. Look, the dude, uh, uh, when they put these hips in, they say, Mr. Sharp, you got 20, 25 years out of them. Damn. I'm trying to get by 25. I ain't trying to go through that again, man. I ain't trying to go through it again. You know, you're going to be all right.
Starting point is 00:49:28 I haven't heard you. Huh? On the snowboard, you're going to be okay because it's the snow. It ain't like you're all. You still fall. That's still hurt. You see Lindsay and Bob. You see Lindsay Barr and she fell.
Starting point is 00:49:37 Yeah. And almost had to have a leg amputated. You ain't going fast. Yeah. You don't know how fast to go. You don't get to control that. Hey, I snowboard. I go.
Starting point is 00:49:48 I go watch y'all. I go, hey, I tell you what, we go, I drank hot chocolate. When y'all come back in there to, hey, man, we had a great run. Hey, I'll be right there by the fireplace. It won't be the same unless you get on the board, huh?
Starting point is 00:50:04 Yeah, I'm good. You got to find something, you got to find something with a, uh, get one of those, bicycle, get one of those beach cruisers. Like, what about we, what about if we went go car racing?
Starting point is 00:50:18 And like, and like And dreadies or something. Oh, Lord, that first. Man, this man, here. You can't, you could get in the damn go car and let me smoke you now. Hey, I used to, I used to race with the kids. Joe, you, Joe, you, you can't, you can't, your, your car ain't gonna be moving that fast, Joe. My driving skills, though, okay, Ocho, my cutoff game, like, you're trying to pass me.
Starting point is 00:50:41 I, you know what I'm, I'm right there. Joe, I, hey, that slingshot move, man, I'm a bump, drive you. Hey, I'm like the intimidate. I'm like, there are hard. see you rest of soul. I'm a buddrum, slingshot, go right, move you out of the way. And I know I ain't got a word about Ocho hell because he ain't got but one. I know he can drive that damn.
Starting point is 00:51:02 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What do that mean? But I don't got nothing to do with driving. Yes, it does. It has everything to do with driving. And you think, oh, lo, you think I'm going to be in the car with you? Looking like Cyclops? Hey, I would have the road you can't see. I would hope so when I'm the better driver of y'all too. Oh, hell no.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Who told you that, Ocho? What makes you think you better drive to me? Um, based on the fleet of vehicles I've owned, which are all foreign and fast as hell, you know I'm the better driver. And I haven't been in one accident. Y'all don't been in accident. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:51:38 We all done, Ocho, we all did have fast cars, Ocho. Nah, uh, you, nah, ain't nobody had what I had. You can't drive it? I let it go. I only had it for a year. That was too long. What was it, Ocho? I had a Vugatti that 2010 season.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Oh, that thing, that thing, whip up some dust, one of the man. And I did. I mean, I, man, I used that launch, that launch button one time and never did it again. I still don't think you can draw no damn go car, though. You wanna bet? I mean, you can't, I mean.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Hey, Joe, we're right here in Atlanta. So we go to, we go to Andretti, I see what you putting down. They got one up on 85 and they got one out there on, uh, uh, on four our four hundred boy I smoke you boy like a blunt I'm telling you but you know they got the big ones up there uh off 85 they got the big go cars yeah the ones I'm talking about the ones I'm talking about you gonna have to put a helmet on that one oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah we're gonna do you do you done in that man now you no you tell you ain't up put no helmet on you know I put a helmet on for you for like
Starting point is 00:52:46 26 by 26 good years I put a helmet on you you you this this different though this different yeah you know I'm saying hey yo You know I grew up riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes in the street, right? Ojo, what do you think we were doing? You weren't doing that in Arkansas? What? No. Go cars, four-wheeler, dirt bikes?
Starting point is 00:53:04 What you're talking about? See, Joe, see, y'all got the four-wheeler. See, when I came along, we used to have three-wheels, but they got too dangerous. Yeah, no, we had them four-wheelerers. They still make them old-school three-wheelers, too, huh? They do, Ocho? Yeah, Yamaha still got it. Everybody had them Honda three-wheels.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Yeah, getting down. Tipping over. Hey, hey, back in the... Yep, yep, yep, yep. Hey, back in the day, boy, if you had a moped, a go-car, or a dirt bike, shh, well, you were killing something.
Starting point is 00:53:37 You hear me? You were him. We didn't have none of that. Barney-Mayer wasn't having that. They went by and said, boy, get on that, get on that circle out there. He said, say, paddle fans. Boy, that's Joe.
