Starting point is 00:01:38 the right person to look up to. Dan emphasizes the importance of finding someone who aligns closely with your experiences and aspirations. When a role model reflects your reality, whether in their looks, background, or lifestyle, they make the steps towards success feel possible and achievable. Tune into the latest No Broke Months for Salespeople episode to get a blueprint for finding a mentor whose achievements feel within reach. So I want to inspire for you to think differently. And I want to today lead a conversation through questions. Because when you ask better questions of yourself, you get better answers. And I want to propose some questions to you and just sort of see what comes up for you. So I want you to think about your life. I want you to think about your business. And I want you to consider what are your goals?
Starting point is 00:02:32 You may want to write that down. So what are your long-term goals for your business? What are your immediate goals for your business? What are your midterm goals for your business? And you can define whatever that means to you, short-term, long-term, medium-term. And I just want you to be creative right now. But what I want you to do is I want you to take the word how and put that aside. Because a lot of times people take the word how and it gets in their way. I have certainly personally have had some pretty ambitious goals in business. And when I set out to achieve those goals, I certainly didn't know how I was going to do so. And so I'm going to encourage for you to, again, like just put the
Starting point is 00:03:16 word how. First, we want to say, where are you going to go? And so if you consider where are you going to go? Now, the next question that we have to determine is how are you going to get there? And typically when we ask, you know, how are we going to get there, we go into the tactical, right? Yet, I want to ask you something different. I'm going to ask for you to think right now, wherever it is that you want to go, who's already achieved that? Maybe they're in your life. Maybe they're in your market. Maybe they're in a different market. But when you consider that, a little bit of the hack is to look into the mirror and that person reflecting back at you, consider that person as a model. So in other words, if I was to look in the mirror and I'd
Starting point is 00:04:05 say some really, really young looking 50 year old dude with a bald head and glasses, white guy, right? Young looking guy, though, you guys would never believe I'm 50, would you? You'd think I'm like 28. I know, I know, it's all right. And so, you know, if that guy has achieved what it is that I want to achieve, that would be who I ask for you to identify. Now, for me, there's two. Neither of them are bald, but both of them are white guys. And one of them is probably my age and one of them is probably is younger than me. And the two that come up in my mind is Ben Kinney and Adam Hergenrother. Those are role models of mine in my mind.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Both of them have achieved what it is that I intend to achieve. Both of them look a lot like me. Both of them have similar, one of them has similar backgrounds to me where he grew up in an abusive household. The other grew up in a pretty stable household and either way.
Starting point is 00:05:02 So right now, where do you want to go? Who has already gotten there? And if they look a lot like you, that's going to be helpful. If you are not able to discover it, then ask the question, if there was somebody out there to achieve whatever
Starting point is 00:05:28 it is that I want to achieve, what did they do? So much to the environment, the relationships, the way that they slept, when did they wake up? Did they read? Did they exercise? Did they, if you guys ever notice, I don't sit down when I i work see that on the floor right there that's a mat this is my stand-up desk right down there there's two stools right there which were once upon a time for my daughter to use the restroom those stools are there for for an intention so that when i'm working they're different levels i change my feet on top of the stool because my chiropractor told me that that would help my back. Okay. So all of this is by design. I'm showing you that. Why is this all by design? Because when I went up to Vermont to look at Adam Hergerather's
Starting point is 00:06:14 office, that's what his office was. I ran some triathlons. I did about 10 of them or so, and I haven't done one in about maybe eight or 10 months. And what caused me to do triathlons? Because when I went up to Adam Herger, rather he does Ironmans. Now I'm not ready for Ironmans, not even close yet. That's what got me into triathlons. Okay. So what I'm asking for you to do is to find out like whoever looks like me, what do they look like? What have they gotten?
Starting point is 00:06:47 What do they do? And the more specific that you can ask those questions about what they did, then the more specific that you can be able to get where you wanna go. Thanks so much for listening to the show. And I wanna tell you about Teach to Sell, the new way to persuade human behavior, because I'd love to be able to meet you face to face. And because I want to be able to
