Starting point is 00:02:21 progressing toward what you want. Learn how overcoming your fear can help you fuel your success in this new episode of No Broke Months for Salespeople. When my daughter was about probably five or six years old, I've got a daughter named Maggie, we went to a resort in Punta Cana, specialized in working with Cirque du Soleil. If you're not familiar, Cirque du Soleil is an acrobatic organization. I guess they do phenomenal acrobatics for shows. You know, like these are the people that will dive into like a bucket of water from like a hundred yards up or whatever. I may be exaggerating there. And this is basically where the B team,
Starting point is 00:03:05 you know, think of it about like minor leagues. So these people are really phenomenal. They're really phenomenal yet they're practicing to be able to be on like the varsity team basically. And so as a part of that, they take the gas and they play with the gas. And so my daughter wanted to do in the flying trapeze and this is a for real flying trapeze like really really high up they've got the net you had to like reach up for the net just to grab the net when they came down and so she starts climbing up this ladder first they harness her in so they make sure climb up the ladder she's safe and she starts climbing up the ladder and she gets about three quarters of the way up the ladder and she freezes and she
Starting point is 00:03:45 comes back down the ladder and i would go over to her and i said hey sweetie you know what's going on she's like i'm scared i said okay well tell me more about that and she shared with me and i grabbed her harness you know lovingly i yanked on it appropriately and i said look you're safe like there's no way like this harness. It's got you. You're 100 percent safe. Do you trust me? Yes. Great. I know you want to have fun with this. So would you be willing to do so? She said yes. So she climbs back up the ladder. She gets up with the coaches up at the top. She flies down. She goes back and forth. She comes to the net. They take her off the net.
Starting point is 00:04:25 And then she's like, doesn't even come back to me. She's running to the bottom of the ladder again, jumping up and down for joy. And so I recognized an opportunity for a teaching moment. I went over to her and I said, hey, sweetie, before we go back up the ladder, share with me how you felt. She's like, ah, that was awesome. That was so fun. That was so fun.
Starting point is 00:04:44 She's jumping up and down for joy. I said, okay, well, I'm curious. What did you feel before that very first time when you climbed up the ladder? What were you feeling? She's like, oh, I was scared. I said, okay, so I want you to remember this as you grow older, and I'm using more sophisticated language right now than when I was, you know, talking to her, that sometimes you may be afraid of something and you're completely safe. And on the other side, when you approach that fear is joyfulness, is excitement, is fun,
Starting point is 00:05:19 is something that's worthwhile. And as people, we often let that fear get in our way of jumping on a very safe trapeze. Thanks so much for listening to the show.
