Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to No Broke Months for Salespeople Podcast. In this episode of the No Broke Months for Salespeople podcast, Dan Rochon reveals how to create your own personal board of directors, a mental team of mentors, leaders, and icons who guide your decisions and accelerate your growth. You'll learn how to think like Gary Keller, channel Walt Disney's creativity, and apply Tony Robbins mindset to your real estate business and life. Discover how asking what would they do unlock smarter choices, faster success, and long-term fulfillment. One of the things that we want to make sure that we understand when we're going through the board of directors is that the board of directors can be in all areas of your life. So, for example, in real estate sales, and not all these people are still on this board, by the way, in real estate sales, I've had people like Ben Kinney on my board of directors.
Starting point is 00:01:00 He's a wide known real estate agent. I have a guy named Adam Hergerowder, a guy named Gary Keller. Those three people I've all met them. And if I want to consider how can I leverage in real estate, I'm going to think about Ben. Because he's done a phenomenon. I say Ben's one thing that he does really well is that he finds top level people to align himself with. And then communicates a vision to them. and then gets that vision into alignment so that you know they could succeed their
Starting point is 00:01:37 goals if I'm looking on what I go to Gary Calderon would I go to Gary Calderon models and systems I go into models and systems of understanding that whatever it is that that we've done somebody else has already done it and so that's something that I would go to Gary Caleron in regards to in regards to, you know, if I'm, you know, like, hey, what do I do to be able to scale this? What systems do I need? What people do I need? I would go to Gary Keller.
Starting point is 00:02:10 The other thing I'd go to Gary Keller on, he's done a phenomenal job of getting a bench of talent, a tremendous bench of talent, so that if somebody in a key leader role exits either from their perspective or his perspective or whoever's perspective, he's got at least 20 other people ready to step into that role, at least. And so that's something that I think that he's done a phenomenal job. If I'm thinking about relationship, then I'm going to think about a friend of mine who's had a 35-year marriage, and it's a healthy marriage, not just a marriage, but a healthy marriage. And these are the people in my mind that I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to consider. I mentioned that you don't necessarily need to know the person.
Starting point is 00:03:06 In fact, most of them, people in my board directors, I don't know. I name three that I do know that I've a mastermind of with. I've talked to. I can call any of those three, though Gary may be a little bit harder for me to get to, but I still can get to them. But I can be able to communicate with any of those people, but I don't have to. And it doesn't even have to be whatever it is. is that your board of directors is going to tell you it really doesn't matter what it is that
Starting point is 00:03:33 they say what matters is that you're taking the time to be able to discover you know if i wanted to understand marketing who would i go to what would they do and it allows for you to to ask better questions if i wanted to be able to be able to consider sales who would i go to if i wanted to be able to consider health wellness physical fitness mental fitness spiritual fitness who would i go to and then when you get yourself into a bind you have a conversation with that person and you say what would that person say what advice would they give to me. And then as you get that advice from them, then you position yourself so that, you know, you can make better decisions. Because you already have within yourself, you already
Starting point is 00:04:37 have the answers. You already know what to do. And so when a board of the directors, when they exist in your mind, you'll get the counsel that you need when you need it. So other people My Board of Directors include Tony Robbins, specifically for normal linguistic programming, Jack Welch for leadership, Dale Carnegie for inspiration, Arnold Schwarzenegger for many different things. And I have many lesser-known individuals in my Board of Directors as well. So I want you to consider right now, if you could, and I want you to choose somebody who, who would be on your board of directors? Who would that be?
Starting point is 00:05:28 I want you to consider who do you need on your board of directors. What areas of your life are you succeeding in and what areas of your life are you not succeeding in? And so whoever those successful people are, it could be, you know, again, and my board, Walt Disney, Ben Franklin, Andrew Carnegie, all for different reasons, all for different reasons, all for different vocations.
Starting point is 00:05:55 So whoever that successful individual is who you admire or anybody else who's to succeed, perceived success, I want you to write down their names. And then what I want you to do is I want you to commit to reading a book on them if they're published. A biography. reading a book by them, reading, studying them, Google them, and do a little bit of research about that individual. All those people's names that I gave you, I've studied. I've read biographies
Starting point is 00:06:34 on all of them, for those that are available. I've written, I've read books on all of them. I met many of them, well, the ones that are available, right? Walt Disney, I don't have the opportunity to meet him, right? But I definitely have the opportunity to be able to study him and what would I want to study Walt Disney on two main things one is client care customer service two is create the creative process in marketing and so if I'm if I'm thinking like what would Walt Disney do if he ran this real estate sales company what would he do to be able to exceed his client's expectations. And what do you guys think Walt Disney would do?
Starting point is 00:07:21 I'm getting some inspiration right now for myself that I haven't done. I'm thinking, in my mind, when I'm thinking about Walt Disney, I'm thinking about those big lollipops with the circles that go around and around like that, those big, big, big suckers. And maybe, maybe I could give a lollipop out to every one of my clients. I don't know, right? It just sort of, that just popped in my head right now. I've never done that before. But that's not a bad idea.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I mean, certainly it's going to take more than that, but a good little fun type thing. You know, and Walt Disney just suggested that to be just in this moment. The conversation this morning is about our board of directors and who do we ask advice from? And so the mission is to put somebody into your mind on your board of directors of somebody who's going to advise you in different areas of your life. And I recommend that you consider, you know, Ben Kinney for me for scaling and, in hiring, in hiring leaders specifically. Walt Disney, for me, for the wow factor, for exceeding client expectations, I'm getting
Starting point is 00:08:28 lollipops. So those types of things are things that I'm going to ask for you to consider to put on your board of directors. Well, I would say, think about the first person in your mind who you believe has made an impact in the world and get a book on audible because if you don't like to read you can listen to it on audible and and listen to an audible right now i'll give you a quick example to give you an idea um okay i know who i'm listening to right now i'm listening to a guy named uh roger dawson who was a real estate guy turned into you know persuader uh the power of persuasion the book that
Starting point is 00:09:10 i'm listening to right now and i'm learning a lot by roger dawson um and And, you know, this is a guy that was like in the 80s, 90s type thing. Similar type of stuff, a lot of similar stuff that I'm doing myself personally, but maybe 30 or 40 years before. Napoleon Hill's on here. Alex Hermosie. There's all kinds of people. Just I'm just looking through my library.
Starting point is 00:09:36 But you don't need to look at my library. You can just sit there and think, you consider for yourself who's inspired. All right, guys, listen. I want to encourage for you to have the best save your life. Be grateful. make a choice to go help somebody and seek counsel from a vetted source of of guiders that you select and spend some time today to consider who am I going to put in that board of directors and then do some research on them.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Read a book about them or buy them. Listen to a podcast, audiobook, whatever the case may be. God bless you guys. I'll see you. This is Dan Roshan, host of No Broke Month.
