How to train your brain to ask better questions. Real estate coach Dan Rochon from No Broke Months
for real estate agents talks about doing mind exercises. In this episode, Dan explains that by taking an hour to
sit down, relax, and think, you can train your brain to make better decisions in time. Learn
more about this technique in this new No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode.
I have a curiosity. Do you ever think about what you think about? So we have thoughts throughout the day, right? I mean, those thoughts are just our thoughts. Do you ever stop to think about those thoughts? Do you ever schedule the time to think?
My question is, how would you do that? Because for me, I have a whole lot of chatter in my head. I'm learning how to stop the chatter. So I'm going
to give you a very, very practical way. I'll share with you the way that I do it. In my screen-in
porch, when the weather's appropriate, I will sit in this chair on my screen-in porch. When the
weather's not appropriate, I've got a nice leather chair in my living room. And I think that it's
important that it's the same place. And what I'll do is I'll sit down with a clean stack of white paper and a clipboard or a notebook and a pen.
And I will put on some spa music.
And I will ask myself one question.
When I take a hard look at my expansion and growth plans, do we have a base that is rock solid?
Are we relying on the rising tide and calm waters?
Okay, so that's an example of a question I will ask myself.
The very next question I'll ask myself will be, what have my thoughts been about this?
And then I'll start coming up with some answers and I'll free flow and I'll write down.
See, like all these things are all just notes, right?
So I'll free flow and I'll write down notes like this.
And then as I'm doing that, I'll ask myself, well, what am I thinking about?
Where does that thought come from?
My question was, do you ever schedule time to think about it?
And so I, every Sunday, have that conversation with myself.
And many mornings I do as well.
Every Sunday I do.
Okay.
And almost every day I do.
All right.
In the morning.
But not if I'm working on a project or something, like this morning, I didn't do it.
But when you start scheduling yourself the time to be able to think, what that does is
it starts to teach your brain of how to think when you're in real time.
So it's just like script and role play.
So script and role play. Why do just like script and role play. So script and role play.
Why do we practice script and role play on Fridays?
Because when we practice what to say,
what to say, what to say, what to say,
then when you practice, practice, practice, practice,
when you're faced with a real life scenario,
you go into autopilot.
But I recommend that you consider
to schedule some time, 30 minutes a week, just to sit down or an hour a week, put on some spa music or jazz study music on Alexa is what I use, and just chill and just ask yourself a question, see where you go.
And then you will start to train your brain to ask better questions because ultimately thinking is asking and
answering better questions of yourselves. That's what thinking is. Okay. The actions
don't come from the thoughts. The actions comes from the feelings.
