How to use your subjective experiences as an advantage.
Real estate coach Dan Roshan from No Broke no broke months for real estate agents explains a
subjective experience in this episode dan explains the subjective experience and how knowing it will
help you communicate better learn what a subjective experience is and how to use it in
this new no broke months for real estate agents episode so what we're looking at is the basic communications of a subjective experience.
Well, let's start with the word subjective first.
When I was first taught this, the instructor was like subjective, subjective, subjective.
And I'll be candid with you, I don't know what the hell subjective meant.
So you may not know.
And that's fine.
I bet you know what objective is.
So objective is something that's measurable. It's certain. It's a fact. Subjective is an interpretation. Okay, so this is a bottle cap. Can we all say that that's objectively true? This is the most beautiful bottle cap in the world. That's subjective. You guys see the difference?
So when we're looking at subjective experience, we're talking about the experience of you and the experience of me and the experience of everybody who you ever interact with. Because
we all have a different experience of the world. And what is that experience based from? Like what
creates that experience for us?
What do you guys think may create your experience in the moment?
How is that different than my experience of the moment?
Past experiences.
Experiences.
Love it.
That's one of the three big ones.
Experiences.
So really, I'll give it to you. So it's experiences, it's education, and it's culture.
Okay.
So how you grew up could be all of the three, right?
So you could come,
I was talking to my trainer today and my trainer was teasing me because yesterday I was in the
inner city of Baltimore. And last week she was in what she referred to redneck country.
And we were teasing each other because she's a black lady and I'm a white man. And we were in these
environments that were very different than ourselves. Right. And so we were just sort of
giving each other a little playful grief and, you know, just about our experiences. Why would I bring
that up? I bring that up because there's two different cultures. Does that make us different?
No. But does that make us a different background, a different a different route?
Maybe. Right. But that's not you know, that's not defined by race is defined by, you know, your upbringing, your surroundings.
Does that make sense to everybody? Could be a part of race because you grew up in a community that was maybe not diverse.
And the community that I grew up with, if you weren't a white heterosexual person,
you were outcast. Now, I didn't resonate with that environment. In fact, it was something that
made me very, very uncomfortable. Okay, but I can understand it. All right, so there's subjective
experience. So subjective experience is what we make to believe. So now in our communication, we can hear something,
and then we make that mean something. We make that mean something based off of our experiences
in the world, based off of our culture, based off of our education, based off of our knowledge,
based off of our, you know, everything that we've done up until this moment. So as you listen to deletions,
distortions, and generalizations, I want you to listen to it from a context when we're
communicating, we're feeding into somebody else's subjective experience. And what the most important
thing is that you recognize and that you realize is that that subjective experience very likely
will not be the same experience as you have. So if you've ever been
in a communication with somebody, you're like, what the hell? Like they didn't, like I said this
and they didn't get it. Well, that's not the most powerful place to be. A more powerful place would
be, I said this, I meant this, here's what the response was. Does anybody remember what the
definition of communication in LLP is? Normal response was. Does anybody remember what the definition of communication in
NLP is? Normal linguistic programming? Does anybody know what the definition of communication is? Or
even if it's not NLP, what's your definition of communication? What do you guys think communication
is? When I say something, the other person get what I say. They understand what I'm saying,
what I want. I like that. They may not always understand it though. That's good communication.
So communication is the response that you get. So whether they get what you want them to get or not,
you're still communicating, right? Like what you just described, Basma, is the intended communication,
a good communication, but communication is simply the response that you get.
How's that tie in ultimate responsibility? It ties in ultimate responsibility because
when you take ultimate responsibility for your communication and you
recognize the response that you get, if it's different than what you intend, who's responsible?
You are. Remember the brain is designed to be lazy. Our minds rather, mind is designed to be
lazy. The mind is going to take the easiest, least, least resistant path. So what's the easiest,
least resistant path when you communicate something and it doesn't go the way that you want it to go? You misunderstood me or
you don't listen to what I said. Yeah. Their fault, not mine. Right. So that's that we're,
we're ingrained to do that. So if you, if you've done that in the past, nothing wrong. It's just
the way that we're set up and designed. Okay. Because we're always going to take the laziest
path to the solution, at least subconsciously.
