story and how it

your obstacle can be your way in this new No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode.
I want to talk to you guys today about the obstacle being in the way.
There's an old Zen story about a king whose people had
grown soft and entitled. Dissatisfied with the state of affairs, he hoped to teach them a lesson.
His plan was simple. He would place a large boulder in the middle of the main road, completely blocking
entry into the city. He would then hide nearby and observe their reactions. How would they respond?
Would they band together to remove it,
or would they get discouraged, quit, and return home? With growing disappointment, the king watched
as subject after subject came to the impediment and turned away. Or, at best, they tried half-heartedly
before giving up. Many openly complained or cursed the king or fortune or bemoaned the inconvenience, but none managed to do anything about it.
After several days, a lone peasant came along on his way into town. He did not turn away.
Instead, he strained and strained, trying to push it out of the way.
Then an idea came to him. He scrambled into the nearby woods to find something he could use for leverage.
Finally, he returned with a large branch he had crafted into a lever and deployed it to dislodge the massive rock in from the road. Beneath the rock were a purse of gold coins and a note from
the king which said, the obstacle in the path becomes the path. Never forget every obstacle is an opportunity to improve our conditions.
My question to you is what holds you back? Is it physical? Is it your size? Is it your race?
Is it your distance, your disability, your money? Is it your fear, your uncertainty,
your inexperience, or your prejudice? Maybe you think people don't take you seriously.
Or you think you're too old.
Or you think you're too young.
Or you lack the support or enough resources.
What is it that gets in your way?
And whatever that is, it's real.
It exists.
Yet, the obstacle becomes the way.
When we understand that whatever we have is an inconvenience, instead of me making a statement, I'm going to test this theory
because I know what the test is going to prove. Who here has had shit happen to you in the last
two weeks that you could say that sucks if you wanted to say it sucks, right? Things that were inconvenient, things that would cause you maybe a little bit of,
you know, damn, you know, that sucks. Maybe you got a flat tire. Maybe your car broke down.
Maybe you got divorced from your wife. Maybe you got sick. Maybe you had financial problems. Maybe you had to downsize your company.
Any one of those problems you think could cause somebody to not take action, what do you think?
I was specific on what I just said because I've experienced all those that I just said in the last two weeks. So your choice is
to understand
that it's an obstacle
and who cares
and do it anyways
or it's an obstacle
and I'm going to let that
get in my way.
Dan, I just finished
rereading a book called The Gift by this woman who was a,
she went into the concentration camps during the Holocaust, lost her parents.
She and her sister survived.
And then she spent the next 50 years as a clinical psychologist,
working with primarily military soldiers dealing with PTSD.
And the whole point of the thing is that you can either be a victim or you can be a survivor,
but you can't be both.
And victims are always looking back at this is what happened to me.
And we single ourselves out that we're the only ones ever dealt with this.
And she said, you know, when you talk with people who've been through this, people have
been through unspeakable horrors.
You can't even begin to imagine how they get up every day, but they do.
It says it's all based on a decision you make of what do I want for my life?
Do I want to look forward or do I want to look backwards?
Yeah, and that's tough.
I don't know how I would react in that circumstance.
I hope that I would react with faith.
I hope that I would react with faith. I hope that I would react with clarity on the reality.
I don't believe that would be helpful to look at things like they're not a challenge.
You know, I don't think that that's helpful.
Yet, you can look at things with reality and still choose to be able to grow, choose to be able to say, okay, I'm in a world of suck right now.
Now, what am I going to do about it?
And I don't think that it's anything wrong with saying I'm in a world of suck.
But there's a difference between saying I'm in a world of suck. But there's a difference between saying I'm in a world of suck
and the world sucks. A significant difference. Okay, because one is just an acknowledgement of
here's what I'm dealing with right now. Okay, got it. Now, what do I do? Now, what can I learn?
Now, what can I change? Now, what can I accept? Now, take action.
