Now, how can I help you achieve your goals?
Okay, but guess what?
Your goals have got to align with my goals
before I start leading.
And if they don't align with my goals,
I'm not gonna be a very effective leader for you.
So it's taking a step back and saying,
okay, does this person, does their behavior align with me?
Does their vision align with my vision?
Does she wanna go in a general same direction in life
as I wanna go?
And if so, now my job job's helped them get there.
Welcome to the no broke months for salespeople podcast, the ultimate
destination for salespeople, business people, and entrepreneurs.
As you immerse yourself in this show, you'll discover the secrets to
unlocking consistent and predictable income.
We reveal the new way to persuade human behavior
by mastering the art of the teach to sell method.
Get ready to transform your approach
and achieve unparalleled success.
Business is just sort of like a little Petri dish.
That's what I use business as.
It's a Petri dish for me to become
the very best version of me possible.
And I encourage you to consider it to do the same.
And I know that whatever you would say I would embody,
I would follow this person.
That's the first step.
And then the second step is, am I embodying the habits of that person?
Now recognize that I said habits,
because so many of us get screwed up where you say,
you look at the results.
You look at the results of, Ben Kinney just bought a Riemind for
$1.5 million for place.
I don't know if you guys who knows who Ben Kinney, I think most
of you probably do right.
He just bought that last week for $1.5 million and I've been I
wouldn't call him a friend Ben and I but like we know each other.
We've been together.
You know, we've got had lunch together that type of thing throughout
the years and I'm like, holy crap. Like that's pretty impressive. I'm looking at the outcome though,
right? That doesn't fuel anything. Well, guess what? Leo Pereo, who created ReMind,
is now the CEO of EXP Realty. His local agent here was in Reston, has been a friend of mine
for 20 years, much closer than Ben. Leo sold ReMind when it went public for $10 million.
So these are two friends of mine that I know, and you look at the results. But guess what? than Ben, Leo sold three mine when it went public for $10 million. Okay?
So these are two friends of mine that I know and you look at the results.
But guess what?
If you look at the results, you're looking at the wrong damn thing.
Because what you should be doing, or excuse me, I shouldn't say should, what you have
the opportunity to do is instead of looking at that magnificent success that both those
gentlemen have had and look at what are the habits that they embrace.
And I can tell you there's one habit that I know both of them embrace much more so than
me, much more so than me.
And the habit that they both embrace is who they surround themselves with.
And they only surround themselves with a plus plus plus people only, only, right?
Like I've observed these guys over the last 20 years as I've known both of them.
And I can tell you what is their superpower.
It's about surrounding themselves
and attracting the right people to them.
So instead of looking at the results
of getting jealous about that and being like,
damn, what have I been doing over the last 20 years?
Instead, I look at, okay, what can I learn?
Now, am I the leader who's attracting
the same level of talent?
Guess what?
I'm becoming that leader.
Steve and Terry, you're evidence of that by the way,
because the two of you are those high level talent
people, right?
And I don't want to exclude anybody else here, right?
But I'm gonna tell you, every single person here,
I don't know Chase very well.
And I know George, but not as well as I'd like to know
George, but I can tell you, and that's not to say
Chase and George aren't great people.
I just don't know you.
And I want to be honest with my words
and everybody else here, I'm gonna say,
you're freaking amazing.
And I'm proud to be in business with you, right?
And Chase, I can understand, I can believe you're amazing
because if you weren't amazing, you wouldn't be with Steve.
And George, I can believe that you're amazing
because if you weren't amazing, you wouldn't be with okay.
But now I can justify that everybody here is amazing
now that I sort of think through it,
even if I don't know you that well.
All right.
So let's go back.
So step one is, would I follow me?
Or actually step one is who would I follow?
Step one is, am I embracing the habits of that person who I would follow?
And then, you know, if you're not embracing the habits of that person you're going to
follow, that's an opportunity.
That's where growth comes.
That's where 25-year-old old Dan who lacked, you know,
a little bit of softness and guess what? 52 year old Dan also lacks a little bit of softness.
I'm not saying that I have grown exponentially in this, but well, I've grown a lot and I
still have a lot of ways to grow with this. Okay. So just want to acknowledge that. But
if you compare 52 to 25, the 52 year old version is definitely much softer, much more patient,
much more empathetic,
much more caring.
We'll take the time to actually slow down when necessary.
I'm fast as hell, right?
But if there's an important thing, if it's vital, I'll take the time.
Okay?
That's based off of experience.
That's based off of growth and learning.
All right.
So understand who you are and then understand where you wanna go.
When you understand where you wanna go,
then you say, okay, here's where I wanna go.
Now, who do I align with that will get me there?
And I don't say this in the video,
but I said it last week and you can write this down.
Scarlett, that's the acronym.
Scarlett for me is self-starters, competitive,
learning-based, assertive, relationship-based,
and team players.
Okay? That's who I look for. If I'm in business with you, I believe that you're all those qualities.
I believe you're a self-starter. I believe you're competitive. I believe you like to learn. I believe
that you're relationship-based and you're a team player. Those are the qualities that I believe
you possess within you. Because if I didn't believe you possessed that within you,
I wouldn't be in relationship with you.
So where do I wanna go?
Who's gonna help me get there?
Now guess what?
Now my job is not to focus on me,
my job's to focus on you.
The best leaders, they don't sell.
They teach, they build trust, they change lives.
Teach yourself is gonna be published by Posto Press and Simon & Schuster.
It's going to show you how to lead with influence.
To lead the old way of chasing behind.

And Clay bonuses you're never going to see again.
Your future followers are waiting.
Because people don't't wanna be sold.
They wanna be led and it's your time.
Now, how can I help you achieve your goals?
Okay?
But guess what?
Your goals have got to align with my goals
before I start leading.
And if they don't align with my goals,
I'm not gonna be a very effective leader for you.
So it's taking a step back and saying,
okay, does this person, does their behavior align with me?
Does their vision align with my vision?
Does he wanna go in a general,
same direction in life as I wanna go?
And if so, now my job's to help them get there.
And instead of me focusing on me, guess what?
I'll be in the tailwind of me pushing others.
And that will
just suck me right up to success.
But you focus on this.
It's about placing you first.
I'm going to call somebody out here.
I'm not going to say the name.
One of you one time said to me about another leader and
I didn't say anything.
I had to stay quiet.
I didn't say my experience say my feelings say my thoughts yet
that other leader.
I'll be transparent
because I'm being very gentle right now,
in my opinion is a very self-serving individual
and he has success.
And that individual that I was here said to me,
well, Dan, you're also self-serving,
we're all self-serving.
And when that person said that to me, I said, okay.
And younger Dan would have rebutted that.
But older Dan just said, okay,
as much as I know that that's not a true statement
because I know that when I focus on the other person first
my needs get met.
I never have to focus on my needs and guess what it's more
fun focusing on others.
Anyways, now if I'm pouring into somebody and I don't achieve
my goals.
Maybe I'm pouring into the wrong person or maybe I'm the
wrong leader.
Okay, but I believe that the leaders that care about
others first and care about the right others first, whether they have the same success as the
takers, whether they have the same success as the self-serving, I don't care. It's just more fun.
So that's my rant. Okay. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, what are your ahas?
I think the ahas, I think that's a lot. What do they say that if you look at yourself, would you hire yourself right now or would you fire yourself? Self-discovery is a big thing.
Yeah. And as self-employed people, that's, you know, it's all about the habits. It's all about the habits, right? It's like, are you going to regenerate daily? Are you going to eat well? Are you going to exercise? Are you going to pour into your relationships? I'm not saying that those are your values, right?
I'm not gonna put my values into you.
Right, I'm just giving you some things to consider, right?
But whatever your habits are,
is what you're gonna create.
I said to Jim the other day, and the trainer was like,
holy crap, you're lifting some heavy weight,
and I go forever, right?
Like I don't stop.
And I just looked at her, I said, yeah, it's my habits.
It's not because I'm strong.
I am strong, but I'm strong because of my habits.
I didn't come that way.
Right?
Not naturally.
Naturally, I'd be about 250 with a donut hanging out of my mouth if I had my way
about it, but you know, I just don't want to be that person.
I sort of do, but all right.
What other hot-past-y guys have?
I mean, I really liked, yeah, the like, would you hire yourself?
But I loved that first note in the beginning about the little questionnaire for the buyers
because that's brilliant.
You know, I definitely want to try that for the next time because-
Chase, remind me on Monday or if you're not here on Monday, remind me on Friday to share
that with you, okay?
Okay.
Yeah, please.
All right.
Thank you.
Yeah, you're welcome.
I just, I don't know.
I have to find a file and Les isn't here, so it's hard for me to get to you. Yep. You're welcome. I just, I don't know. I have to find a file and less isn't here.
So it's hard for me to get to you right now. Yeah. And again, like I said, that's something
that I learned from experience, but guess what? You got to think. See most agents,
when something goes wrong, what do they do? They bitch and they moan. And they say,
I can't believe that this happened. And that's fine. I understand the negative energy.
Yet what if instead of bitching and moan and what have you said,
huh, what really happened there?
What could I do differently next time?
And that's where teach yourself came from.
That's where all the systems came from.
Thank you, Terry time for one more.
Aha.
Well, I'll go again.
Everyone seems to be looking at me to the cameras.
I think not the it's that those habits are those consistent, predictable income.
The consistent time on task over time habits is what's going to bring the
success, not the one of them.
Success is boring, right?
It really is when you implement the habits.
All right, guys.
