key ingredient in this new episode of no broke months for real estate agents
there's been three times in my real estate career that i thought I was done. Now, when I say I thought I was done,
it's probably a more significant cost than most, meaning $50,000 to $125,000 less than zero.
Because I have a big organization and when things don't work out the way that they're supposed to work out, it's not just me. For most of us, we don't have those swings.
There's been three times in my career that I thought I was done, but I'm not.
And I never have been.
So what I want to share with you today is what's gotten me from three times in my career
and a very, very significant deficit to still being able to help
people, to still being able to serve, to still being able to help people solve their problems
and achieve their goals, even when I've been in a face of struggle. When I'm sharing with you a
little bit about my journey, it's not about my journey, though. It's about yours. Some of you
don't even have your licenses yet.
Some of you have your licenses and you're having a great deal of success. Some of you are having
moderate success and some of you are feeling frustrated. Some of you are feeling defeated.
Some of you are feeling in a place that you're challenged. Well, let me ask you a question. Has anybody
here ever felt frustrated before in the business? Now, do I share that with you to discourage you?
No. I share that with you because what I want to do is I want to face reality.
So if this business is one that you could ask the question of anybody that's been doing it for
six months or longer.
Have you ever felt defeated? Have you ever felt frustrated? Have you ever felt a struggle?
Or somebody who's been doing it for 16 years at a high level and the answer is 100% of a yes,
then that means that it takes a tremendous amount of something to continue. So what is that something? In my belief,
that something is persistence. That something is the willingness to not give up. Now,
that all sounds fine and dandy, but how the hell do you do it? So I'm going to get a piece of paper
and a pen, and I want you to write down, I'm going to give you some, I'm going to give you some, a framework here. So here's how you do it. First, you need a definite purpose. Okay. So
knowing what you want is the first and perhaps the most important step towards development of
persistence. You have to first know what you want. And as a part of knowing what you want,
you should know why you want it. What do you want and why? So I want you to ask yourself, and you know what you want to do and
why. Because if you don't, if you don't have clarity on that right now, then when you have
a struggle and you will, you may be more inclined to quit. Desire. So the first one is definitiveness of purpose. The next one is desire.
If you have a great desire to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve,
and you have clarity on why you want to achieve that, you'll be more likely to be persistent.
The third one is self-reliance. Ultimately, at the end of the day, there's only
one human being in this world that you have complete ability to influence and have faith in,
and that's yourself. So when you believe your ability, when you believe in yourself,
then you can have a greater certainty that you can stay with it. Now, in a different topic about
leadership, we can talk about how we can expand past ourselves. But if you have zero leadership
ability, you still have the opportunity to, and I know everybody here is a leader in their own right,
yet that's a different conversation. So again, number one is definitiveness of purpose.
Number two is desire. Number three is self-reliance. Number four is a definite plan.
Even if your plan sucks, it's better than no plan. Even if your plan is weak, it's better than no
plan. When you have an understanding of your purpose, what do you want to do and why?
And you have a high desire and you have a clear understanding of your self-reliance
and you have a definitive plan, you're more likely to stay in the game to reach your goals.
Accurate knowledge. So knowing that your plan is sound allows for you to take action without
guessing. If you're new to this and you have no experience in implementing a plan, then you have
to take a faith in another. For me, when I started real estate sales, I read a book,
one of the best real estate books in the world. One of them, because at the
time, real estate evolution was not written, just saying. A book called Millionaire Real Estate
Agent by Gary Keller, Jay Papasan, and Dave Jenks. And Gary, Dave, and Jay wrote a book with the
models and systems. They go through four models in there. I read that book 12 times in my first
six months of real estate sales.
Now it's a dated book today. You may want to read Real Estate Evolution twice. So if you have the
accurate knowledge, if you don't have the experience, you're going to have to rely on
somebody else's knowledge. So having a definitiveness of purpose, a desire, a self-reliance,
a definitive of the plans, accurate knowledge. Now you get past yourself.
Now it's cooperation.
Creating in harmonious cooperations with others will allow for you to stay persistent.
When you fall and they pick you up because sometimes you may be weak and you need the help of another.
Willpower.
Let me review it before I tell you willpower.
So number one is definitive of purpose.
Number two is desire. Number three, self-reliance. Number four is definitive of plans. Number five
is accurate knowledge. Number five is cooperation. Number six is willpower. Willpower is a tricky
one now because willpower has a battery life. The habit of concentrating your thoughts upon
building the plans for attainment of a definitive purpose leads to persistence. You can will your way through a lot of it, but, and I use but
intentionally, willpower has a limited life cycle. Willpower has a short period because
you can't will your way through life. At some point, you're going to get tired and you're
going to have to sleep. You got to reset yourself emotionally, physically, spiritually. You're going to have to
turn it off, which leads to our last bullet point to be able to create persistence, which is habit.
Habit is something that you can rely on more so than willpower if you implement it or rather when
you implement it. So the habit of focusing on
your lead generation daily, five days a week, focusing on your conversion daily, five days a
week, focusing on attending appointments as often as you can during those five days a week to get
hired, focusing on negotiation as often as necessary during those five days of the week,
and focusing on your scripting role play as often as you can during those five days of the week and focusing on your
description and role play as often as you can during those five days a week.
By the way, negotiation is always available.
I had a really good real estate week last week, the first I've had in around six months.
But a part of that really good real estate week came with two price adjustments.
So it's taking a look at what's the closest to the finish line where I already
have the listing. It's overpriced. I adjusted the price on two of them and I sold one. The other,
we're still, I think we'll sell it this week. My intention is that we do so. Okay. But negotiation
being a fifth of those is something that allows for us to have success.
Thanks so much for listening to the No Broke Months podcast today.
Until the next show, I invite for you to be grateful,
make good choices, help someone,
have the best day of your life,
and go find a listing.
