Real estate coach Dan Rashan of No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents talks about how to segregate the important and urgent things from unimportant things. In this episode, Dan shares a tip on how to separate these items into different categories so you can focus first on what is most important. When we start saying what's important and what's not important, here's where we may get into a little bit of a conflict.
Starting point is 00:01:26 And let's revolve it around business, because there's a lot of things in our personal world that's important. Energy, physicality, staying fit, relationships, spirituality, leisure. And by the way, leisure is important and urgent, and it is a business-related activity. Yet, it should be a schedule. You know, like if you're always leisure, you ain't going to get much done. So what's important in business are things that's going to drive a result. Okay. Would we agree that urgent is something that may be time sensitive?
Starting point is 00:01:59 There's something else that we need to understand about importance. It's something that drives an outcome. I guess the question would be, what outcome do we want to drive? So we want to get more clients. We want to exceed our clients' expectations. All right. I think that those right there for me are the only two important and urgent things. So if it doesn't lay into that outcome for important and urgent, then it's not an important and urgent, then it's not important and urgent. For me, professionally, either get clients or exceed clients' expectations. So lead generation. All right. So is that urgent and important? I would say it's schedule, like something we schedule
Starting point is 00:02:36 every day. So it's not urgent, but it's important. You think lead generation is not urgent? Not urgent, but important. That's why we schedule a day. We block a calendar for that. That's scheduling. Let's think of the word schedule. Schedule it is you're still going to do it, but you're going to do it on Tuesday. Where do it is you're going to do it today. In business, is it important that you... let's take a look at lead generation. Will we agree that that is the number one domino that everything else comes from? Because if you have no business, nothing else matters. Would we agree to that? So if there's no business, then there's nothing else that matters, then that would be important and urgent. Meaning that that's something
Starting point is 00:03:24 that you would do daily. OK, so when I say schedule it, that's like, OK, well, I could do it on Wednesday, but I don't need to do it today. But it has to get done. Let me give you guys some examples. Strategic planning, professional development, networking, exercise. OK, so these are things that are important, but they may not be urgent. So strategic planning may be something that's that's important, but they may not be urgent. So strategic planning may be something that's important, but not urgent. It has to happen, but does it have to happen today? So a CMA, depending on, it's going to depend, I think. It may be urgent and important, or it may be urgent and not important. And that's going to depend on, do you have the listing today or do you have the listing a week from now? So I'm going to put a CMA under urgent and not important, unless if it is urgent and important, meaning that I'm going to delegate
