Learn the importance of gratitude in reshaping your outlook in the latest No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode. First of all, what is NLP? NLP stands for Neural Linguistic Programming. It's the study of subjective experience. So what is subjective? Let me
Starting point is 00:01:46 ask you guys that question. What is subjective? How you perceive it, your point of view. Perfect. Perfect. The subjective is perception. Now in the world, Aaron, you perceive something. Keisha, you perceive something. Raquel, you perceive something. All three of you and everybody else here, when you leave this conversation today, you're going to get something different from it. And sometimes, you know, even as an instructor, sometimes it's common. I'll be teaching something and, know i've got you know 100 students and they come back to me and they say you know 100 students and i get 20 kudos and three or four you suck all right and i do get you sucks by the way and so um so what we do as creatures is we we take a look at
Starting point is 00:02:41 those you sucks and we overemphasize our attention to those you sucks even when there's 20 kudos all right now that's a that's a part of nlp right there so i'm gonna i'm gonna put that aside but that is a part of nlp right there is the way that our psychology um tends to our behavior tends to focus on the negative rather than the positive going back to nlp it's the study of subjective experience. So going back to each one of you has a perception of this conversation. I have a perception of this conversation. And if it was only the four of us speaking, who was it?
Starting point is 00:03:18 It was Aaron, Keisha, and Raquel, and myself. If it was only the four of us having this conversation. Everybody else was observing this. Everybody else observing this would also have a perception. So for example, like maybe you're watching this on a replay, for example, and you're not a part of the conversation and you're just sort of observing rather than what I'm saying. You're just observing like the conversation as a whole. Are people paying attention are people
Starting point is 00:03:46 engaged what's your perception of what's going on now that's one section of normal linguistic programming the other section of normal linguistic programming is that it's a study of excellence okay so if you understand what i teach what i teach in my coaching is based in nlp it's based in the understanding that human beings we go through life making our own shit up some of it it's great and some of it is sucks that's the foundation of uh of my coaching. Now, when you understand that, then I understand that human beings, and we all understand that, right? The human beings can take a look and they can perceive something to be great.
Starting point is 00:04:34 They can perceive something to suck. So if given the choice, I'm going to choose excellence, not suck. Why not? It's just as easy to choose excellence, not suck. Why not? It's just as easy to choose one or the other. Eh, it sort of feels better to choose excellence. Now, the challenge with that is that we only really truly control
Starting point is 00:04:54 our internal mechanisms. It's challenging to control something external. Our perception of what happens externally, we're in charge of that but outside of that you can only truly look at things objectively and then understand that you're subjectively twisting it around i'll give you a personal example i had a personal conversation. This was in business where I had one person come to me and said one thing. Another person came to me and said another thing, said she didn't say that. So let's say person A says to Dan, whatever person A says to Dan. Person B says to Dan, that's not what happened.
Starting point is 00:05:42 So what Dan says to person B is simple. I perceived that person A said this to me. Because the only thing that I can objectively be certain of is what I perceived that person A said to me. That's it. It's a very, very different perspective than what person A said happened. It's also a different perspective than person A said this to me. Now, I believe that person A said this to me because that's based on my perception. So once you understand that, does that make person B wrong?
Starting point is 00:06:21 Not at all. Not at all, because I also understand that person B has a perception, and person B's perception is valid, person A's perspective is valid, and Dan's perspective is valid. However, one of the things that I've learned in leadership, which is perception becomes reality whether it's valid or not so we're not giving validity to anything we are giving reality to it and i didn't learn that in nlp i learned that in trial by fire i learned that when i was getting my head rung through the through the rocks when i fired a ceo of a company i used to own and she was very, very polarizing. And she just made me to be like this bad person to everybody,
Starting point is 00:07:07 which isn't who I am. But it became a reality to some for a few, for a short period of time. And that was where I learned the lessons. Like it doesn't matter what's real because perspective is what becomes real, whether it's valid or not. Thanks so much for listening to the No Broke Months podcast today.
