Skill set versus track record, which is worth noting when hiring. Real estate coach Dan Rashan
from No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents discusses tips for hiring successful people.
In this episode, Dan asks if looking at the skill set
or the track record is more important when hiring.
Learn to determine what is more important to consider
in the latest No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode.
If you want to know what the likelihood of somebody succeeding
in your organization is,
just simply look at what they've done in the past.
We had somebody that we were interviewing not too long ago who had a record of going from
industry to industry to industry, job to job to job to job, had a high skill set.
And I made the mistake of looking at the skill set and saying, wow, that's a high skill set. Well,
I'll give them a chance, and the same pattern continued, right? It was like with us for a very
short period of time during the interview process. By the way, my interview process goes for 90 days.
Does that mean that I'm talking to somebody for 90 days before I say, come join us? No.
That means that once you start on day one,
the next 30 days is the interview process.
At the end of the 30 days,
we'll have some agreed upon metrics that you'll achieve or not.
And those will be the most critical things that are necessary.
Okay. So for example,
if it's a buyer's agent and you're working with
a buyer's agent, what would a critical thing with a buyer's agent be that you would want
them to achieve in the first 30 days? Ultimately, you either have a buyer under contract or you
don't. Okay. And if you have the opportunity, then there would be no reason.
I mean, maybe 30 days, but certainly in 60 days, there'd be no reason not to have somebody
in a contract.
If you have the opportunity.
If you don't have the opportunity, then that's a whole nother conversation.
If you don't have the opportunity, should you be hiring a buyer's agent?
Probably not.
I brought somebody in today.
Could I guarantee that if they do their job,
they'll have a closing?
Now, I don't want to have it clouded
that I can't answer that question affirmatively.
Can I answer that question affirmatively today?
Absolutely.
Z, would you agree with that statement
that if somebody came into our organization, that they have the opportunity to have something on a contract within 60 days?
Absolutely. Definitely.
Right. I mean, we're talking bare minimum here. Okay. So, so we go back to the interview process. I hire you as a buyer's agent. What's up? What am I going to measure in the first 30 to 60 days? Do you have somebody
in a contract? That's it. Nothing else for us to talk about. Now, I know I'm being blasé when I
say nothing else for us to talk about. There is, right? Of course. But that's the only thing that
really measures performance or not. Thanks so much for listening to the No Broke Months podcast today. Until the
next show, I invite for you to be grateful, make good choices, help someone, have the best day of
your life, and go find a listing.
