Agents.
Two days ago, I was driving my daughter to school, and it was right when the sun was coming up.
It was about maybe 10 minutes before the sun was coming up, and it was raining.
It was like that drizzle, and I hit a very, very severe pothole that two days prior to that, a tractor-trailer had gone to its side and scraped up the entire road and they didn't repair it so i was
about three quarters of a mile away from a place where i could pull off because there was um uh
barriers it was you know it was bad by the time i got to a place to pull off there was five other
cars there i heard on wtop news which is the local news station that there were dozens of cars that that happened to that morning.
Now, was that my fault that that happened?
No.
When I look back and say, what was my responsibility?
Could I have paid more attention?
Yes.
Was I paying attention?
Yes.
What was my response when it occurred?
Initially, when the three quarters of the mile, I got my blinkers on,
my hazard lights on immediately, put my blinker on. I made sure I was safe. I made sure my daughter
was safe. And I initially was just concerned about safety, got off safely to a shoulder.
Then what was I responsible for? My emotions. So what did I do? And my actions, I called the
roadside assist to make sure, cause I wasn't willing to go out and change the tire myself
in that environment without like some big yellow lights behind me. So I called roadside assist to
come change the tire, waited and express gratitude that we were both safe. And then enjoyed my time
with my daughter until they showed up. So when I replay that instance, I'm like, Matt, you know what?
I'm good with all that.
Like there's nothing that I would change at all except for, you know, the actual accident.
Right.
But there's nothing I would change.
There's certainly another perspective I could have taken through that entire instance, one of which would have been very, very negative.
Okay.
So, again, this isn't about me,
but I'm just showing you something that's recent in my last 48 hours.
That's a really, really good example of stuff happens,
yet you just want to take responsibility for your thoughts,
your feelings, your actions.
When you make a mistake, you share it with yourself empathetically.
What does that mean?
When you make a mistake, you go and you beat yourself up.
Some people do.
Yet, when you make a mistake and you admit it caringly and empathetically understanding,
oh, I'm not perfect.
I effed up, right?
When you approach it like that, now you can start solving things.
Thank you so much for listening. You are freaking amazing. And because you're amazing, I'm going to ask for a quick favor. It'll just take you 30 seconds for
