You're listening to No Broke Months for Salespeople Podcast.
In this episode of the No Broke Months for Salespeople podcast, Dan Roshan shares a deeply personal story about his best friend Dave, whose choices ultimately led to his death.
Through this emotional experience, Dan unpacks one of the most powerful success principles in business and life.
Your choices create your outcomes.
From habits to leadership to daily disciplines, he explains how small decisions compound.
over time and how salespeople can take ownership of their future starting today.
One day when my daughter was older, my best friend at the time, Dave, was in hospice,
and he passed away from alcohol disease.
And remember that Dave used to be one of my contractors when I used to flip a lot of homes,
and he would be the general contractor.
He'd make sure he managed everything.
One day I realized that some of the projects were just not going well, and I didn't know
what was going on.
So I'm traveling to a conference in Florida.
And I'm on my way to the airport.
I stop at one of the properties.
And I realized like no one had been there.
It seemed like in weeks.
And I'm like, what the heck?
You know, Dave was always like right on top of this type of stuff.
So I fly down to Florida.
I get there.
And, you know, I start calling around trying to get Dave.
And, you know, he's nowhere to be found.
I finally found his wife, Rebecca.
And Rebecca, I give her a call and she's like, she answers.
And she was crying.
I'm like, what's going on, Rebecca?
She's like, Dave's in the hospital.
all right.
Finish up my trip in Florida.
I come back.
I come and visit Dave.
I come in to visit Dave and he had like this thing that was going through his
clavicle where I could see like I walk in there and the nurse was like putting this
tube into his into, you know, right below his shoulder.
And it looked like a sheet of white paper.
Just completely no color in him at all.
And it was scary.
They released him from the hospital.
The doctor tells him, Dave, if you.
ever drink again, they already put a shunt in, you know, to bypass his liver. If you ever
drink again, you're going to die. Week goes by, he drinks again. So now he's in hospice. So I told
you about my daughter, Maggie, and he's getting ready to pass away, and I bring Maggie to his
bedside. Now Maggie is maybe around two years old. And so she didn't really, you know, she doesn't
remember this, but I knew that she was programming, and I knew that I have, as a dad, I've got the
ability to be able to teach and trainer and I told her on the way to go see Dave I
said sweetie we're gonna go see my friend Dave you know him and he's he's not in good
health right now and in fact he's he's getting ready to pass away and I said you
know nothing that he's done was a bad choice or let me say that differently
nothing that he did was bad and he's a good man and I love him very much but the
choices that he made are going to result in his death
And so that was an opportunity for me to be able to share with my daughter Maggie about choices
and about the understanding that the choices that you make create your outcome, create your future.
And hopefully that was as dramatic as my friend Dave, and that was many years ago,
he made choices that caused them to die.
Now, hopefully, again, it's not life or death.
But the choices that you make in your business, the choices that you make,
in your personal life, the choices that you make in your relationships all create an outcome.
And just like what I was teaching my daughter and say, listen, honey, you're not always going
to make the best choice, but your choices are always going to create an outcome. And the only
thing that I want you to consider is that you make the best choices possible. And so for years,
I share with her every single morning. I probably signed off on this, on, you know, one of these
courses or probably even more where I told her, I said, sweetie, you have the best day of your life,
make good choices, go help someone and be grateful.
And those are the four things that I tell are every single day.
And so for you, I just want you to understand that the choices that you make in your life,
the choices of the habits that you embrace, are going to be able to create your outcome.
So, consider to make good choices.
God bless you.
