Starting point is 00:00:00 And what I found in what I know you will find as well is that you'll get a better caliber advice if you just either don't think about it or if you think about it without considering other perspectives. So I encourage for you today to start considering who's going to be on your board of directors to help advise you when times get tough or when times are good. Starting point is 00:00:48 and achieve unparalleled success. Years ago, I was gifted this book, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. And you can see since then, I've definitely worn it out. I don't read this particular version anymore. I listen to it on most days actually on Audible. And it's something that has helped me transform my life. And one of the exercises in there
Starting point is 00:01:10 I wanna talk to you about today, which is creating a board of directors. And I got this from Napoleon Hill, who was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie to study some of the, you know, the self-made millionaires of the time in the early 1900s. And one of the things that Napoleon Hill had suggested in his book Think and Grow Rich, which I now suggest to you, is to create what he called a board of directors
Starting point is 00:01:32 in your mind. And what that board of directors may include or who that may include is anybody who you may think may be somebody who you would want to take advice from. Could be your dad, could be your mom, could be president, former president, current president, could be anybody historical, whoever comes to your mind. And something that I have done is I've put together a board of directors in my mind that when I'm coming across a challenge, I ask that person, I say, you know, what would you do if you were in this situation? And then I imagine what their advice would be. So for example example if it's something like with marketing PT Barnum from the Barnum and Bailey's from the circus PT Barnum was a genius with marketing in fact
Starting point is 00:02:13 Once upon a time he was in New York City And he wanted to promote a museum that he had and nobody was coming in so he hired this guy for what is like five cents a Day whatever the money was back then and he says to the guy says I got a stack of bricks it was like 12 bricks and the museum was like right on the corner of a block of streets and he said to the guy says I want you to take these bricks and all day long I want you to go from one side of the intersection to the other to the other side of the intersection to the other side of the intersection I want you to just walk one brick go over here drop it off Walk one brick go over here drop it off and say nothing
Starting point is 00:02:49 And what happened was because this crazy guy was there, you know Perceived crazy guy was dropping these bricks off the people started crowding around being like what's going on with this guy? And then guess where they were crowding around there crowded out right in front of the door for the museum And he was able to quadruple his attendance that day. And so when I'm thinking like what can I do to be able to draw attraction, I ask P.T. Barnum. When I'm thinking of who would I want to learn from for leadership, I think of Jack Welsh who was the CEO for GE for many years. When I think of something like who do I want to know for fitness? Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's one guy that I would ask in my mind about fitness. So I've developed this board of directors of people that I've studied, people that I've really
Starting point is 00:03:38 taken the time to learn about what makes them who they are so that I have people that I can ask in my mind. And the reality of it is, is it doesn't really matter what the answer is. It doesn't even matter if that's the answer that they would give you. What occurs is that you're thinking. You're thinking about if I was in this person's shoes, what advice would I give me? And what I found, and what I know you will find as well, is that you'll get a better caliber of advice if you just either don't think about it or if you think about it without considering other perspectives.
Starting point is 00:04:15 So I encourage for you today to start considering who's going to be on your board of directors to help advise you when times get tough or when times are good. All right. Thank you very much. to help advise you when times get tough or when times are good. All right. Thank you very much. So one of the things that we want to make sure that we understand when we're going through the board of directors
Starting point is 00:04:31 is that the board of directors can be in all areas of your life. So for example, in real estate sales, and not all these people are still on this board, by the way. In real estate sales, I've had people like Ben Kinney on my board of directors. He's a nationally, you know, he's a wide known real estate agent. I have a guy named Adam Hargarother, a guy named Gary Keller, those three people.
Starting point is 00:04:57 I've all met them. And if I want to consider how can I leverage in real estate? I'm going to think about Ben because he's done a phenomenal. I say Ben's one thing that he does really well is that he finds top level people to align himself with and then communicates a vision to them and then gets that vision into alignment so that they could succeed their goals. I would go into models and systems of understanding that whatever it is that we've done, somebody else has already done it. And so that's something that I would go to Gary Keleron in regards to, you know, if I'm like, hey, what do I do to be able to scale this? What systems do I need?
Starting point is 00:06:43 What people do I need? I would go to Gary Keller. The other thing I'd go to Gary Keller on, he's done a phenomenal job of a bench of talent, a tremendous bench of talent, so that if somebody in a key leader role exits either from their perspective or his perspective or whoever's perspective, he's got at least 20 other people ready to step into that role, at least. And so that's something that I think that he's done a phenomenal job. If I'm thinking about relationship, then I'm going to think about a friend of mine who's
Starting point is 00:07:17 had a 35-year marriage, and it's a healthy marriage. And these are the people in my mind that I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to consider. Now, I mentioned that you don't necessarily need to know the person. In fact, most of the people in my board of directors, I don't know. I named three that I do know that I've masterminded with, I've talked to, I've, I could call any of those three, though, Gary may be a little bit harder for me to get to, but I still can get to them. But I can be able to communicate with any of those people, but I don't have to. And it doesn't even have to be whatever it is that your board of directors is going to tell you. It really doesn't matter what it is that they say.
Starting point is 00:07:58 What matters is that you're taking the time to be able to discover, you know, if I wanted to understand marketing, who would I go to? What would they do? And it allows for you to ask better questions. If I wanted to be able to consider sales, who would I go to? If I wanted to be able to consider health, wellness, physical fitness,
Starting point is 00:08:29 mental fitness, spiritual fitness, who would I go to? And then when you get yourself into a bind, you have a conversation with that person. And you say, what would that person say? What advice would they give to me? And then as you get that advice from them, then you position yourself so that you can make better decisions. Because you already have within yourself, you already have the answers. You already know what to do. And so when a board of directors, when they exist in your mind, you'll get the counsel that you need when you need it. So other people, my board of directors include Tony Robbins for specifically for normal linguistic programming, Jack Welch for leadership, Dale Carnegie for inspiration.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Arnold Schwarzenegger for many different things, and I have many lesser-known individuals in my board of directors as well. So I want you to consider right now, if you could, and I want you to choose somebody who would be on your board of directors. Who would that be? I want you to consider who do you need on your board of directors? What areas of your life are you succeeding in and what areas of your life are you not succeeding in? And so whoever that's those successful people are, it could be again in my board Walt Disney, Ben Franklin, Andrew Carnegie, all for different reasons, all for different vocations. So whoever that successful individual is who you admire,
Starting point is 00:10:12 or anybody else who's perceived success, I want you to write down their names. And then what I want you to do is I want you to commit to reading a book on them, is I want you to commit to reading a book on them, if they're published, a biography, reading a book by them, reading, studying them, Google them and do a little bit of research about that individual.
