Starting point is 00:01:25 Rest is just as crucial to success as hustle. Dan breaks down General Eisenhower's urgent slash important matrix. This timeless tool helps you separate the noise from what truly matters, allowing you to prioritize tasks that drive actual results. In the latest episode of No Broke Months for Salespeople, tune in now to learn how to work smarter, not more challenging. I want to talk to you about General Eisenhower. Why would I bring up General Eisenhower before he was president of Eisenhower? Why would I bring up General Eisenhower in a real estate agent class? All right. For most of us, we have a little bit, we're a little bit stressed and challenged with our time, but we all agree to that. And I'm particularly at that place right now. And so I was doing some reading, actually, I was listening to some audio,
Starting point is 00:02:18 an audio book over the weekend about time management and trying to sort through like how to get this done. And what I realized was, I heard an interesting story, which allowed for me to do a little bit more discovery. And what I want to share with you is what my discovery came up with, which what I realized, or what I what I heard for the first time was a General Eisenhower on the decision of D-Day, they had a very, very short window of time where they actually delayed it one day because of the weather. And there was a lot of debate between his generals and admirals about should we go or should we not go? And basically, the consensus wasn't a consensus, but what the decision making was, was the the general for the army said yes
Starting point is 00:03:05 the general for the air force said no and the admiral for the for the navy said no and eisenhower ended up saying yes and it was all it was all weather related right but they knew this if they didn't attack them and they'd have a two-week window before the tides would be right again and then they may end up facing the same challenges so they so he ended saying yes, because it was like a break in the window of the weather, they delayed it one day, and they went forward. That's all interesting. But here's what here's where the learning lesson was, do you know what Eisenhower did after he made the decision? He played board games, and then he took a nap. Imagine that does anybody think that Eisenhower may have had like other things that
Starting point is 00:03:46 he could be doing in the day of the day? Why did he do that though? He did that because he knew that what was in front of him was going to be an enormous amount of decision making that would be draining his brain, his energy, his spirit. And he knew it was more important for him to be rested than for him in the moment to be making decisions. Because with six months to two years in the making, it was a long time of decision-making process and planning. And at that point, everything that he could have done was already done. And so then he knew, well, what's the most important thing and the most
Starting point is 00:04:25 urgent thing for me to do right now? And it wasn't taking care of all the little tasks. It was, I need to rest because I got some big decisions to make. So then that put me down this journey of discovery to learn a little bit more about, okay, well, what caused him to think like that? And what I came up with is Eisenhower's urgent slash important matrix. So it's a diagrammatic tool to be able to tell us what's urgent and important, what's not urgent and important, what's urgent and unimportant,
Starting point is 00:04:58 and what's not urgent and what's not important. What we're going to do is we're going to, anything that falls into urgent, important, we're going to do is we're going to anything that falls into urgent, important, we're going to say do it. Anything that falls into the not urgent, but important, we're going to say schedule it. If it's important and urgent, you want to do it. If it's important and not urgent, you want to schedule it. And then down at the bottom where it's urgent and not important, we want to delegate it. And where it is not urgent and not important, we're going to delete it. So now we've got a decision-making platform. Thanks so much for listening to the show. And I want to tell you about Teach to Sell,
