Transform your weakness into unstoppable strength. Sales coach Dan Rashan of No Broke Months for
Salespeople talks about the inventory of your traits.
In this episode, Dan shows how you can condition yourself that there are always two sides to your behavior, whether it is impacting you negatively or positively. You can either use it to your
advantage or lead you to your downfall. Learn more about turning your weakness into your advantage
in this new No Broke Months for Salespeople episode.
All right, inventory of your personal traits. So let's talk about traits first. Let's talk about behaviors. So what I hear a lot of times is that behaviors are either strengths or weaknesses.
All right, well, the reality of it is, is that a behavior is just a behavior. It's not a strength nor a weakness. So what do I mean by that?
What I mean by that is when that behavior is serving you, then it is one that will show up
as a strength. When that behavior is getting in your way, it is one that will show up as a weakness. So we can take the very same behavior and we can,
we can use that same, same behavior and it can show up as a strength or as a weakness.
What's an example of that? What do you guys got? Like, what's an example of where a,
the same behavior can show up as a strength or a weakness?
The kind way of saying it, tenacious, being stubborn.
Being stubborn. Okay. Being stubborn. So how can being stubborn or tenacious,
how can that show up as a positive for you?
You keep moving forward. You don't give up easily. You don't get discouraged.
You know that what you're doing is right and you keep going.
Okay. And then how could that show up as a weakness?
At the same time, then you're inflexible to seeing that, you know what,
there might be a better way of doing this, stuck in your way I have to be right. And you just keep plowing ahead.
Okay. I love it. Great feedback, Colin. What else? What else you guys got?
I think it's someone, someone that's quiet during the conversation. It's more reserved.
Okay, so somebody more reserved. And then how could that be a strength and how could that be a weakness?
As a strength that would, could be,
you're actually putting all the details together,
a proper decision instead of just leaping into it.
Weakness is you're just talking out your ass.
Okay. So these are, so hopefully I've demonstrated to you that a you that it's only behavior.
So the definition I've come up with for behaviors of when it shows up as a strength versus a
weakness is when a behavior serves you and others, it's a strength.
When a behavior gets in your way or gets you in the way of others, it's a weakness.
So take what we just went through with the traits and observe what is this exercise doing for you. Take a little bit more time and really discover
going through this. And it's going to give you like a compass. It's going to give you a guiding light.
