Understand the best way for you to communicate in the latest No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents episode. So now we understand that everyone has their own perspective. So now what does that perspective come from? That perspective comes from your experience, mostly. Your culture. Your education. And the way that you were raised.
Starting point is 00:01:52 It comes from your surroundings and what you learned. How you were treated as a kid. Were you loved and hugged? Or were you abandoned and discarded? Or something in between? Okay? And this is the way that we develop our belief system which also skews our belief system which is what's called deletions distortions and generalizations so in deletions distortions and generalizations what that is is um is when somebody says, Bob said that.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Bob said that. Bob said that. Bob said that. Do you hear the difference? Like, I said the same three words. Do you hear the difference between them? Same three words, but your filters came up with three different interpretations. By the way, the reason why we don't want to text important stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Because the recipient's going to interpret that in whatever manner that they interpret it. All right. So deletions, distortions, generalizations is sort of where the communication gets sort of screwed up. All right. And so then when you look at this and you're looking at it say the communication between two people the perception of you and the perception of me is based off your values and beliefs your your your education your background your culture your experiences and then there's a little in between that there's a a filter which means which is generalization deletions and distortions everybody says that such and such you know the people were telling me such and such that's a generalization where you you have something that's so broad and then it becomes a reality to many people's filters now he's
Starting point is 00:03:41 manipulating communication to be able in my perception he's manipulating communication to be able, in my perception, he's manipulating communication to be able to do that. Now that we understand this concept, first of all, NLP is a study of subjective experience. Secondly, it's a study of excellence. And then thirdly, we're talking about, you know, our communication and how we make things up. So once you understand that there's all these filters going on in the world, and you understand communicating with a prospective client, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, now you can understand why these tools work that I'm giving you next. I want you to understand that the best way for you to communicate is to actively listen. If you find yourself interrupting often, if you find yourself filling in the sentence of somebody else starts to speak, and then you finish their conversation, that's your generalizations and your deletions and your distortions screwing up the conversation. If you're somebody who fills in the blanks, if you're somebody who doesn't pay attention and
Starting point is 00:04:41 wait for the person before you to finish and actively listen to the words, the conversation, the spirit, and be in tune with that person, then you automatically are distorting the conversation, which is going to cause conflict, which is going to cause problems. Thanks so much for listening to the No Broke Months podcast today. Until the next show, which is going to cause problems.
